First season wrap up:
Okay, to start, i should mention my general opinion on first seasons for shows, especially cable shows, is not to read too much of it as canon. The writers, producers, actors- everyone- are all trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t, so i give them latitude, particularly when it conflicts with later seasons. That being said, i do enjoy jumping through the hoops to make it all fit haha
So heres a few leftover notes i had as i revisited the eps to rank them:
I bet part of Lassie was craving the father figure in Henry, since we find out later his own father passed away when he was quite young. I wonder if thats part of the reason why he became a cop, as they are portrayed as the protectors and in the 80’s they were mainly men (i don’t really remember if he states his reason later, i suspect he did and im just not remembering). So when Henry didn’t meet up to the expectation he had in his mind, i bet it hurt a little more as it reminded him of what he lost :/
I think the other reason Shawn plays dumb so much, besides hiding his genius so ppl believe hes psychic, or for laughs, is because its how he gets people talking. Like in Shawn vs. the red phantom, he purposely guessed the wrong room number so the boys would correct him. My apologies if someones pointed this out before, i haven’t combed through the internet for everyone’s theories 😬 i only now noticed. I’m not the quickest at picking these things up lol
If i had to guess, Shawn didn’t want to be a cop for halloween, he probably wanted to be something star wars related to go with Gus’s Lando. So i wonder at what age Shawn stopped trying to please his dad. But also, why didn’t his mother ever stand up for him?? I’ll come back to her later -_-
I somehow missed it the first time, but shawn clearly asked Gus to come to the dinner and Gus even points out that it was a big deal for henry to reach out. Soo, yeah, shawn obviously didn’t wanna be alone with his dad, and even henry seemed nervous about it as hes pretty drunk.
Shawn has a right to be afraid of pointy things, his dad hid his easter eggs under glass when he was 6! Not to mention he later gets stabbed 3 times! (Also its just a legitimate fear???)
So far the list of Shawns knowledge (things i wouldn’t expect an average person to know) includes (beyond the obvious observational skills, deductive reasoning, reading people (poker), and all things police (marksmanship, police codes, etc.)):
Incredible spatial and physical reasoning skills (knowing how much money could fit in the duffle bag, knowing to rotate the water pitcher to catch the reflection from the tv)
Kurt Vonnegut (well, I didn’t know who he was at least)
How to spell aggiornamento (and probably all words because of his photographic memory)
Handwriting expert
Casually spoke and understood german
Has every road he’s driven mapped in his brain, and likely all of Santa Barbara
Familiar with paint (enough to know to mix latex enamel for no messy drips)
Animal tracks (i went back and forth on this but ultimately decided he must have known what to look for)
And heres a list of Gus’s niche interests:
Forensics
Spelling bee
Safe cracking
Historic rifles
Comic books
Astronomy (even though he was going to the planetarium for the girl)
Law
Local tennis
Online poker
Lastly, Ive decided instead of ranking them, im putting them in tiers. I feel like too many of them are hitting at the same level and I can’t differentiate:
Sweetest, Juiciest Golden Pineapple Tier
Scary Sherry, Biancas toast (ohmygod i just got the biancas toast 🤦🏽♀️)
Blue Psych Logo Tier
Weekend warriors
Forget me not
From the earth to starbucks
Poker? I hardly know her! (Sorry @pineapple-psychic!)
Pepto Bismo Pink Tier
Spelling bee
Pilot
She loves me, she loves me not, she loves me oops hes dead
Who ya gonna call?
Shawn vs the red phantom
Oops Canadian Flag Tier
Cloudy with a chance of murder
9 lives
Game set muuurder
Speak now or forever hold your piece
Woman seeking dead husband, smokers okay, no pets
#a little nod to their podcast with the pepto bismo pink ;)#if theres anything else ya’ll want me keep track of let me know i clearly enjoy homework haha#its so hard not to include ALL my thoughts#like how smart it was to add juliet going to call back up because she’s not an idiot and isn’t driven by ego to dumb dangerous things#or even shawns line of needing to put his phone on vibrate as thats such a horror film cliche#but i really don’t want to write an essay on each ep haha#psych tv#psych#psych rewatch#psych usa#shawn spencer#burton guster#shawn and gus#james roday rodriguez#james roday#dulé hill#dule hill#juliet o'hara#carlton lassiter#chief karen vick#timothy omundson#maggie lawson#kirsten nelson#corbin bernsen#henry spencer#shassie#shules

Leverage/Psych crossover ideas
Shawn and Elliot are cousins. They havent met because Henry is estranged from his sibling who is Elliot’s parent. Team Leverage does a job in Santabarabra while Shawn and co are in the middle of in unrelated murder investigation. They come within mere seconds of crossing paths several times until finally Parker runs into Lassiter. They both see someone do something dumb and mutter the same thing under their breaths. They hear each other and catch eyes. They have a short talk where they bond over being autistic coded. Then they go their separate ways, fully expecting to never see the other again. Yeah, they thought the other person seemed cool but neither of them are really in the market for more friends
The Leverage team finishes their con successfully and leaves town. Somehow the bad guys manage to learn Elliot’s name. Wait, Spencer? Like the psychic? They look into it and yeah turns out they’re related. They kidnap Shawn to get to Elliot and then call Sophie or rather Sophie’s alias and say hey guess what? We’ve got your cousin and unless you undo the damage you did and give us a bunch of money we’ll kill him.
Elliot is confused at first before he remembers yes, he does have a cousin who is from Santabarbara. Didn’t know he was psychic though. (Not that he’s sure he believes that) So they turn around and head back to Santabarbara.
Naturally since Shawn was kidnapped Lassie and Jules are on the case. (And Gus)
At first their are no leads. They have no idea why Shawn was kidnapped. Then, they find security footage and manage to link it back to the same company whose ceo Lassiter arrested for fraud the day before. They aren’t sure what the connection is, but it’s there.
Then team Leverage gets back to town. They team up with the Santabarbara crew and rescue Shawn. (Possibly Elliot intentionally gets himself captured because it’s the quickest way to find Shawn and then takes the bad guys out while Shawn is standing is standing in the background like “wow my cousin is badass!”)
Sidenote: Shawn gets his kidnappers to spill the beans on what’s going on and they tell him about how his cousin framed a guy for fraud. Shawn recognizes that for the half truth it is.
During the time looking for Shawn Parker befriends both Jules and Lassiter. (She goes with her fbi cover, which Hardison has officially made almost full proof in its authenticity.) or not. Idk.
Gus and Alec would obviously love going undercover together. Alec finally has someone who will go along with his dramatics easily, like it’s any other day. Gus meanwhile is used to working with Shawn and is having a blast, cause its very similar. Obviously it’s different then Shawn and Gus, I mean Alec and Gus just met, but its an equal tug and pull of power. They are both just grounded enough that neither one of them is the crazy one, but neither are either of them the completely normal levelheaded one either.
Maybe at the end, Henry reaches out to his estranged sibling or something. As for Sophie and Nate? Well Sophie can’t get involved because she was already the public face of the con. And Nate is intimidated by chief Vick, but he doesn’t tell anyone that. By the end only Shawn and Gus know that the crew are thieves. Lassiter and Jules know something is fishy about them, but hey, it’s probably just fbi stuff. (Plus Jules reached out to her brother and Ewan said Elliot is a good guy.)
Thanks to @duckapus for kickstarting this idea by your leverage psych crossover post
#leverage#psych#elliot spencer#shawn spencer#parker#juliet o’hara#carlton lassiter#burton guster#alec hardison#sorry Sophie and Nate don’t make much of an appearance#also Karen Vick is the best and would easily sniff out Nate’s bullshit#also idk Nate is an okay guy but he gives off weird vibes that I don’t like#and I have projected that onto chief vick#ooh!#maybe she also has her suspicions about the crew#but they are only suspicions#long post

dr. dreamy ; bones
fandom: star trek
pairing: bones x reader
summary: it’s been a while since you’ve been laid, and it’s starting to affect your mood so jim offers his help before quickly realising that you’re still hung up on a mysterious ‘mr. dreamy’ from your academy days... but he soon finds out that the man you’ve been in love with for the past five years is, in fact, the enterprise’s best doctor
notes: did somebody say hyper-fixation? also, if you haven’t noticed already, i have a favourite formula... i wrote this while sick, so apologies if its crap, but let me know what you think!
warnings: swearing and horny
word count: 4173
The turbolift halts when it reaches the deck on which the upper-most access to the warp core is located. Your steps are sluggish, and the lace on your left boot is about five strides from falling untied, but you don’t really care to fix it even as you feel your boot go lax. Your heel begins to slip in and out of place just as you reach the door to one of the larger maintenance rooms.
“What’s got your knickers in a twist?” Scotty asks as soon as he sees you.
You shrug, “just tired.”
“Too tired to remember where you’re s’pposed to be?” he stops you from picking up the spare pair of gloves from the bench, “first aid trainin’?”
A vague memory fights its way to the front of your mind, and you recall being ordered by Jim to attend the annual first aid training course that at least two crew members from each division were required to attend.
“Why me?” you sigh, “why can’t you be the first aid officer, or-or Ayden?” The young brunette lieutenant who was half-concealed behind a large metal tank pokes his head out.
“Because, Scotty says, dismissing Ayden with a wave of his hand, “the capt’n requested you specifically, and I know he’s a bit of bastard sometimes but he’s still our capt’n.”
“He just wants me to suffer because he has to,” you grumble.
He chuckles as he grips your shoulders and physically turns you back toward the door, “I doubt you’ll be sufferin’ much, lassie, I heard the CMO himself is runnin’ this one.”
Your feet forget their steps and you stumble before catching yourself on the doorjamb. “W-Why is Bones running it? Isn’t he busy? He never does this kind of thing,” you say as you turn back to face Scotty.
He shrugs, “capt’n’s orders, I guess. Now go before you’re late.”
You drag your feet out the door, down the corridor, and into the lift once again, all the while muttering about all the ways you intend on getting back at Jim.
You met Jim on your second day at Starfleet Academy and were almost immediately joined at the hip, being one of the only women on campus who was immune to the man’s charm. Well, not entirely immune at first, but you’ve definitely built it up over the years. It took a whole twelve months before you met his other other half, the doctor, and no matter how many years you spend with that man, you will never be immune to Leonard McCoy. From the moment you met him, you knew you were doomed, though you still tried desperately to deny it and got pretty good at controlling your body’s reactions to him. Your thoughts, however, not so much.
For almost two whole years, you managed to keep your crush under wraps, even though it was quite literally crushing you. It was one drunken night when you finally confessed to Jim, not quite revealing the identity of the man you were in love with but giving him enough information that he actually comforted you. That was when you realised it was a lost cause, and you were condemned to pine after this man for all eternity, because even James Tiberius Kirk couldn’t make a joke about your heartache. He did, however, affectionately nickname this mysterious man ‘Mr. Dreamy’ and continue to ask you about him and allow you to vent. It was nice to not have to bottle it all up, but it felt strange talking to one of your best friends about the other without him even knowing that it was the other best friend that you were talking about. Your conscience certainly took a guilty blow every time you’d end up in tears in Jim’s arms, or have to quickly change the conversation because Leonard was approaching. Jim never questioned it though, nor did he push the topic when you stopped bringing it up once aboard the Enterprise, leaving him to assume that Mr. Dreamy was left behind at the academy.
“You’re late,” Jim says as you fall into the chair beside him.
“You’re ugly,” you retort.
The large conference room is devoid of the oversized table that usually sits at its center, instead there are only two smaller tables piled high with medical equipment surrounded by a number of limbless, humanoid dummies. You and Jim are sitting in the front row of the audience chairs, whereas most of the crew attending had opted for further back.
“That’s no way to speak to your captain,” he chuckles, “what’s got your panties in a knot?”
“My panties are neither yours nor Scotty’s business,” you snap, though as soon as the words leave your lips you know you’ve given away exactly the reason why they are in a proverbial knot.
You’ve been aboard the USS Enterprise for almost two years, which means it’s been two years and one month – give or take a day – since you’ve been laid, and holy shit are you frustrated. It isn’t that you have an aversion to sex, or are practicing abstinence, in fact, you have a very healthy enjoyment for the act. It just so happens that you can’t seem to want anyone other than the one man you can’t have, because who fucking knows what would happen if you went down that route after five long years of friendship.
Jim’s laughter turns into a childish giggle, “has it been a while?”
You roll your eyes, “yes, Jim, it’s been a while.”
“How long?”
You turn in your chair to face the curious man, “that is also none of your business.”
“You know,” he glances around the room, “I know for a fact that there are many lovely lieutenants aboard this ship who would be more than willing to scratch that itch for you.”
“Shut up,” you hiss, “and no. Do you know how complicated it can get when you sleep with someone you’re stuck on a spaceship with for five years?”
“I do, actually,” he replies, “I know very well, but that doesn’t mean we should have to ignore one of our most primal needs.”
“Primal needs,” you roll your eyes again, “I appreciate the concern, but I’ll be fine. Three more years won’t kill me.”
He gasps, “it’s been three years?”
You roll your eyes again so hard you’re sure you saw your brain, “Jim, you know very well it hasn’t been three years.”
“Wait, so you haven’t slept with any since… since we-”
“Nope,” you say, stopping him from finish that sentence.
Yep, you had sex with Jim Kirk, but in your defense, who hasn’t? It was a drunken night, one week from embarking on the Enterprise’s five-year journey, and you were both a little lonely and incredibly horny. It wasn’t half bad either, if only a little strange sleeping with one of your best friends while you were in love with the other.
“Holy shit, Y/N, I didn’t-”
“Of course you didn’t know, Jim,” you sigh, turning back to the front of the room, “besides it’s not like I haven’t had… options, I’m just not interested.”
He frowns, “don’t tell me you’re still hung up on Mr. Dreamy.”
You purse your lips to keep from laughing, not out of mirth but something more along the lines of grim amusement, and your silence is enough of an answer for Jim.
“Hey,” he places a hand on your arm, “you know, I wouldn’t object if you wanted me to… help you out again. Believe me it was no chore, I mean-”
“Jim!” you snap, “shut up before somebody hears you.”
His cheeky grin only grows wider, “come on, you think anyone on this ship would be surprised to find out we’ve slept together?”
Before you can reply, the sound of someone clearing their throat catches your attention, and you both snap toward the front of the room to find the doctor himself staring at you. His frown is harsher than usual, and his hair a little mussed, which only fills your inappropriate mind with a thousand different fantasies of the messy-haired doctor in your bed.
“Well,” Jim sighs, “maybe one person.”
You glance around to the find majority of the room watching you while the rest of them do anything they can to not witness this situation unfold.
“Sorry, Bones,” Jim says, “you can begin now.”
“Well, thank you, Jim,” the doctor replies sarcastically before turning his attention to the room, “now that our captain has given his blessing, let’s get started.”
Jim settles back in his chair, though his demeanor is less relaxed and a little more anxious than before. You keep your eyes trained on the holographic slides behind Leonard as he talks about first aid basics and what different codes and acronyms mean. You try your hardest not to look at him, but all you can think about is how much you want to jump his bones. His voice is still a little raspy from sleep, and you start to fantasize about how delicious his Southern drawl would sound whispered against your neck.
Your almost halfway through a dangerously vivid daydream when Jim nudges you. “Are you okay?” he asks, and only then do you realise that the rest of crew had begun packing away their chairs to make room on the floor.
You nod and stand, dragging your chair to the side while Jim retrieves one of the rubbery dummies from the front of the room. Everyone pairs off, and you sit on the opposite side of the dummy to Jim while he uses his PADD to pull up some notes.
“Now,” Bones says, “we’re going to practice a variety of different cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques. The concept is the same, it just depends on the anatomy of the patient.”
Jim hands you the PADD and you start flipping through all the different diagrams of different species’ anatomies, each illustration pointing out the location of the body’s heart, lungs, and esophagus.
“How the hell does he remember all these?” you wonder aloud.
Jim chuckles, “why do you think he’s so grumpy all the time?”
You get up on your knees for a better angle at the dummy and place your hands over where the heart would be on a human.
“I have to ask,” he says before you can start practicing compressions, “how do you even know if Mr. Dreamy is still single? Why wait for him?”
“It’s not like I still think I have a chance with him,” you reply, “it’s just… complicated.”
“How could it be complicated? I know you’ve got your excuses, but if you’re so in love with this guy, what’s to lose if you just ask him out?”
You can’t help but glance over your shoulder at the doctor. He’s kneeling beside another pair and helping them with their hand placement.
“It just is,” you say, before starting CPR on your own dummy.
“Well,” Jim says, “my offer still stands, because who knows how long before you’re grumpier than the good doctor over there.”
You sit back on your heels and gesture for him to take his turn, deciding not to acknowledge his proposal. After taking turns on three different methods of CPR, the doctor appears beside you.
“Do you need any help?” he asks as he kneels on the floor, and you want to say yes but you know he’s only referring to the dummy.
“You underestimate us, Bones,” Jim replies, “we’re top of the class.”
“Sure you are,” Bones rolls his eyes, “show me then.”
Jim sits back and gestures for you to do the honors.
You turn to the doctor, and the butterflies in your stomach erupt into a frenzy. “J-Just human?” you ask, cursing yourself for stuttering.
He nods and you lean over the dummy, placing your hands over where the sternum would be and starting a rhythmic pulse of compressions.
“Harder,” he says, which almost makes your hands slip off the dummy entirely. “Don’t be scared to break a rib, I’m sure they’d prefer a broken bone over death.”
You take a deep breath to compose yourself and put a little more force into the compressions. After counting to thirty, you tip the head of the dummy back, pinch its rubbery nose, and act as if you’re blowing into its mouth without actually putting your lips on it. Then you return to performing compressions.
“Good girl,” the doctor praises, and your sure your heart stops just as your breath does. Your hands slip and you have to catch yourself on the floor to keep from faceplanting.
You sit back and stare at Bones’ arms as he rolls his sleeves up and positions himself over the dummy.
“Make sure you interlock your fingers,” he says, “and keep your arms extended, that way you won’t lose stability.”
You want to listen, but you can’t stop staring at his bare arms as he performs perfect CPR on the doll in front of you. His skin is tanned and taught across his strong muscles, honed from years of practicing to have the steadiest and most skilled hands in all of Starfleet. His hands, oh god, you’ve had countless dreams about them tangling in your hair and touching every inch of your body.
You shift a little to try and relieve the pressure building between your thighs.
“Jim,” Bones says, “your turn.”
You look up to find Jim staring at you, his brows furrowed and a question on his lips as he slowly moves to take over from the doctor. Once satisfied with Jim’s technique, Bones leaves to help another pair and you quickly start flipping through the PADD to find the next diagram.
“Y/N,” Jim says, his tone suddenly serious.
You glance up, your cheeks hot, “Captain.”
He stares at you, his blue eyes trapping you and stopping you from looking away no matter how much you want to.
“Holy shit,” you can practically see the lightbulb flash above his head, “holy shit, I can’t believe I didn’t notice! I mean, it’s so obvious, and- how the hell did I not realise? Holy shit.”
“Jim-”
“It’s Bones!” he exclaims, earning startled glances from the people surrounding you.
“Jim, please-”
“No, no, no, you’re not lying your way out of this one,” he says, “I can’t believe you wouldn’t tell me that Mr. Dreamy- or should I say Doctor Dreamy is Bones.”
You sink onto your bum and cross your legs on front of you, leaning your elbows on your knees as you hide your face in your hands. “Jim, please don’t say anything,” you plead, “he can’t know, no one can know.”
“The way you look at him, the way you’ve always looked at him,” he goes on, though his voice is significantly lower, “I can’t believe I didn’t notice.”
Before you can say another word, Bones calls the room’s attention. Behind him, the holographic slides have changed to new points of information, and everyone falls silent to listen to the doctor’s speech.
You can see Jim squirming from the corner of your eye as you try to listen to the rest of the seminar, but it’s almost impossible to hear anything over the beating of your own heart. Heat washes over you in waves, ensuring your cheeks remain a bright shade of red and making your uniform feel itchy and tight. It feels like an eternity before Bones announces a break for lunch.
You grab Jim before he can move and begin dragging him out of the room, down the corridor, and into one of the smaller, vacant conference rooms.
He’s already giggling as you flop into one of the chairs, “you’re in love with Bones.”
You sigh, “yep.”
“And have been for five years?”
“Yep.”
“Why wouldn’t you tell me?”
“Because it’s stupid,” you reply, “and when I first met him, he was still getting over the divorce. Every time we’d drink together, he’d end up ranting about his ex and either make himself angry or upset. We all became such good friends, and before I knew it… I just didn’t want to ruin the friendship.”
“Ruin the friendship?” he repeats, “what are we? Teenagers in some old, soapy television drama?”
You shrug, “yes, I’m in love with him, but I’d rather have him in my life even just as a friend than not at all.”
“What makes you think he wouldn’t want to be with you?”
“Have you seen the women who hit on him?” you scoff, “and the women he’s been with? I could never-”
“Hey,” he interrupts you and pinches your chin between his thumb and forefinger, “none of that. You’re gorgeous, and Bones would be an idiot not to agree.”
“Okay,” you swat his hand away, “say we did go out, but it didn’t go well, and then I’ve lost one of my closest friends and made it incredibly awkward for you. Not to mention being stuck on this damn ship with him for another three years.”
Jim huffs, his eyes boring into his own shoes. It looks as if he’s having his own argument in his head, his posture rigid and his lips set into a hard line.
“Jim, just promise-”
“Sorry to interrupt,” a red-shirted lieutenant pokes their head through the door, “but I actually have this room booked in five minutes.”
“Oh,” you stand and grab Jim’s arm, “sorry.”
You pull your captain into the corridor and begin back toward the big conference room.
“Y/N, just hear me out.”
You turn abruptly and push Jim against the wall with a hand on his chest, “no, Jim, you hear me out. You know how I feel, and you know how long I’ve felt like this, so don’t you dare try and tell me what I should do. Just because you now know it’s Leonard doesn’t change anything.”
“Okay,” he raises his hands in surrender, “okay, I’ll shut up, I’m sorry.”
You release him slowly and he lowers his hands.
“I have to admit though,” he smirks, “he’d be an excellent lay.”
“Jim!” you exclaim, your hands balling into fists at your side.
He chuckles and looks down the corridor, his grin disappearing the instant his eyes land on the doctor. You frown and follow his gaze before quickly taking two steps back from your captain.
Jim clears his throat, “Bones-”
“We’re starting again,” the doctor says, before turning sharply and walking back into the conference room.
Neither of you say another word as you reenter the room and take a seat in the front row once again. Leonard avoids looking your way for the rest of the afternoon, and though you can’t help but worry about what you’ve done wrong, it also allows you to stare at him unashamedly. You let your thoughts run wild, imagining his hands pinning your wrists down, his body on top of yours, and his mouth everywhere as he slowly unties that knot below your stomach that’s been twisting tighter and tighter for five years.
Eventually he calls the day to an end, and everyone thanks him before shuffling out of the room, everyone but Jim.
“Dinner?” you ask.
He takes a deep breath before standing, “I’ll be there soon, you go ahead.”
Your heart thuds nervously, but you stop yourself from questioning him any further and turn toward the door. You’re the last out aside from Jim, and you can hear him address his friend just as you step into the corridor. The last of the crew shuffle into the lift. “Are you coming?” one asks.
You fight with your good conscience before shaking your head, “no, you go.”
The doors of the lift ease shut, and you turn several times on the spot, asking yourself whether you’re a sneaky person before giving in and pressing yourself against the conference room’s door.
“Bones,” you hear Jim’s voice, “just listen to me.”
“I don’t really feel like listening to you right now, Jim,” the doctor bites back.
You frown and press your ear against the door.
“Please, let me explain.”
“Explain what exactly?” Bones asks, his tone harsh, “the part where you slept with girl I love, or the part where you lied to me so that I didn’t?”
You smack your hand over your mouth to keep from gasping… or screaming.
“I didn’t lie to you, Bones, I just-”
“You told me she was in love with some other guy, and that I couldn’t ask her out because it would only make things awkward.”
“I didn’t lie to you, I-I just didn’t know that-” Jim sighs loudly, “Bones, I am sorry, we were both drunk and it didn’t mean anything, it was just-”
“Just sex?” Bones snaps, “that’s all it ever is with you, Jim, you never think about anyone else.”
“I know, it was stupid, but I never lied to you,” Jim says, “she really was- is in love with someone, but she never told me who it was. I just- I assumed it was some guy back at the academy, and I should have realised-”
“Realised what, Jim?”
You can only imagine the two of them squaring up to each other, and you try desperately not to let the picture of an infuriated Leonard turn you on.
“The guy she was- is in love with, she never told me who it was, we just called him by some stupid nickname, she’s loved him for years, but I never-”
“Are you trying to torture me?” Bones interrupts again, “spit it out, damnit!”
“It’s you!” Jim exclaims.
Your heart lurches, threatening to break through your ribcage and burst right out of your chest.
“She’s in love with you, has been for years.”
The silence is heavy, and you have to hold your breath to stay quiet.
“What are you playing, Jim?”
“Nothing, I’m telling you the truth,” their voices are no longer raised, “and I am sorry, Bones. I shouldn’t have slept with her, drunk or not.”
Another beat of silence passes.
“I didn’t realise you were still in love with her,” the captain says quietly, and you have lean against the door before your knees give way.
Bones sighs, “course I am.”
“Then tell her.”
“Tell her?”
You startle at the sound of footsteps approaching, jumping back from the door when it slides open.
Jim smirks, “I didn’t take you for the spying type.”
You don’t have a chance to reply before he pulls you into the room and drags you toward the doctor. He smiles at both of you, pats Bones on the shoulder, and leaves.
“Hi,” you murmur.
“Hi.”
Staring up at him, you soften instantly under his hazel gaze. You can feel the warmth from his body, you’re standing so close, and you’re positive your cheeks are burning red.
“I’m sorry,” he sighs, running a hand through his hair, “Jim’s just-”
You’re not sure if it’s the fact that you’re touch starved or just overwhelmed by what you’d just heard, but you surge up onto your toes and press your lips against his. He catches your waist and presses your body against his, tilting his head to allow your mouths better access to each other as his tongue slides past your lips. You can’t help the little whimper that travels up your throat, which only urges Leonard on. He turns your bodies and sits you on the table, knocking half of the equipment on it to the floor. Your legs part and he settles between them, pressing into you enough to make you shudder.
“I love you,” he says between open mouthed kisses, “by the way.”
You giggle against his lips, “I love you too.”
His hands stroke your jaw before travelling gently down your neck and chest and stopping to cup your breasts. He groans, and you sigh, before his hands continue down to your hips and he holds you in place to grind against you.
You gasp, his name falling from your lips like a prayer, “Len.”
Your hook the fingers of your right hand in the band of his pants while your left travels up under his shirt. His skin is so hot and so soft, you can feel the appreciation for him pooling in your panties.
“Oh, my God,” a voice exclaims, and you jump apart, “that was quick!”
Leonard looks over his shoulder but keeps his body facing you, concealing the bulge in his pants. “Damnit, Jim!”
The captain giggles, his grin so broad you’re worried he might get stuck like that, “this is a public space.”
At the same time, you and Leonard shout, “get out!”
He continues laughing as he leaves, and only then does Leonard disentangle himself from you and march toward the door to lock it. When he turns back, you can’t help but giggle at the delicious sight of him.
“Want some help with that?” you ask, nodding toward his crotch.
He’s back on you in less than a second, claiming your neck with a heavenly bite. “Thought you’d never ask,” he whispers against your skin.
END.

Floating Back in Love
Here’s my submission for day 6 of Lin Beifong’s Week. You can also find it on AO3.
Pairing: Lin Beifong x Tenzin
Rating: T
Art made by JadeLotus💚 And inspiration brought to you by @ilovelin
“Lin, come on! I never ask you of anything!” he cried.
Bumi had been following Lin all evening, chasing her from crime scene to crime scene, the precinct and back. He would’ve followed her into the lady’s room too if it weren’t for the metal bars she erected in front of the door.
“Please, please, please- I will never ask you for anything else.”
They were now in her office. It was nearing midnight and Bumi was not even close to quitting. Lin was wrapping up her paperwork for the day as he continued trying to persuade her to no avail.
“Bumi,” she groaned, gently slamming her head to the back of her chair in frustration. “Why won’t you just take no for an answer? Has Tenzin not crushed your spirits sufficiently?”
“Well, Tenzin’s on some other kind of bender right now,” he said, chuckling slightly. “You won’t believe what he’s up to.”
She had to admit it piqued her interest, but there was no way she was going to ask him about it. After years of animosity, Lin thought she had finally reached a good place in her relationship with Tenzin. They were friends- not close friends, but friends. Friends who knew and understood each other like nobody else did. Friends who couldn’t function being anything more or less than friends. Friends, that she thought were once soulmates, that weren’t, ultimately.
“But coming back, to ME,” he said emphatically. “Please, Lin! Please, please, please—”
“Why is this so important you, Bumi?” she asked, sighing loudly.
“I hear his sister is wayyyyy sluttier than me,” he explained. “I really need to, no, must screw her—”
“Don’t want to hear it!” Lin cringed, raising her hands in surrender. “Why do you need me to court some girl you know is promiscuous enough to sleep with the likes of you?”
“Court—” he laughed to himself, but quickly recovered when he saw Lin’s nostrils flare. “Thing is, she doesn’t quite leave the Fire Nation enough. She’s only going to be here because, her brother, a member of the cabinet of ministers in Izumi’s council is bringing her as his date.”
“Okay?”
“And if you snag the brother to be your date at the Annual Summit’s gala, I get that lovely lassy all to myself.”
“Bumi, I won’t be attending the gala as a guest. Remember my job?” she asked, gesturing around the room they were currently seated in.
“Taken care of that! I’ve got the airbenders to provide security, courtesy of my dear little brother. Mako has promised that he’ll take care of everything and lead your officers.”
Lin scoffed. “And what makes you think I’d be okay with that?”
“Because Kenzo is quite the looker?”
“Try again,” she deadpanned.
“Why? When have I ever let you down?”
Lin scoffed. “The last time you set me up with someone, it was a complete disaster.”
“What? Why?” he asked, standing up to demonstrate his shock.
“That guy was such a pervert. He tried sliding his hand down my pants!”
“That’s fantastic!” Bumi cried.
“What? No! In what world—”
“A patriarchal one where men don’t finish women off—”
A heavily scandalized Lin stood up and clapped his mouth shut. “Don’t ruin sex for me!”
Bumi laughed like a maniac. His lips tickled her hand, so she quickly moved it away. “Come on, Lin. When was the last time you—”
“Don’t—”
“Mr. Perv was probably wiping off the cobwebs—”
“Are you forgetting that you need me right now?”
“Fine, fine, fine,” he said, walking around her desk towards her. “Please, I really need a distraction. Tenzin is driving me crazy and, Lin, this guy’s great. I promise he won’t try any funny business. I’ve done my research with Song and Mako about your perimeter check- the whole nine yards. I even bought you an evening gown and got Opal to do your hair. It’s three months from now, so even if you change your mind, which I hope you won’t, I’ll call it off. But please, please please, please—”
“Why can’t any of your other female friends do this?”
“You’re the only one I haven’t slept with,” he said with a meek grin. “We could change that if you like, though…” he trailed off so his eyebrows could jump suggestively to finish his sentence.
She pinched her nose in thought and looked over at him. She wanted to ask what was going on with Tenzin, but she bit her tongue. Instead, she said, “Fine. It’s a date.”
Bumi hadn’t lied, she thought back. She was wearing a long, forest green gown made of the finest of silks- it was so reminiscent of Gaoling and Poppy Beifong. The thin straps streamlined up her clavicles to meet the back of her neck, secured by a neat bow. Lin was aware of how low her dress was cut and a small part of her wanted Kenzo’s eyes to linger a little, but alas, he was by far the least exciting person she had ever met. He not only talked in a slow drawl, but also exclusively talked only about his own very uninteresting interests.
She had been on worst dates, she admitted. And the only thing she wanted to do then was escape. From the corner of her eye, she saw Bumi giving her a thumbs-up, leading the curly haired bombshell of a woman towards the exit with him. Seeing that as her cue, Lin’s dress bounced behind her as she made her way to the balcony for an escape.
The past three months had been exceedingly tumultuous. Nearly every day Lin found herself learning new-fangled ideas about the occurrences at Air Temple Island.
First, it was Rohan and Pema coming in for records of domicile. Next, it was Mako receiving a call from Korra about information on lawyers. After that, it was Ikki being arrested for some petty crime. And finally, it was Tenzin. He showed up, rage blowing in the wind around him, to the precinct, likely to bail his little girl out.
Lin felt it obligatory to see him and talk things through in her office. The last thing she needed was Tenzin’s children turning into mini Suyins around her city.
“I take that you’re here for your daughter?” she began.
“Actually, no,” he whispered. “I want her to serve her sentence to the fullest. I also want her to see me here, expecting to be bailed out only to spend the next two nights here.”
“One complaint from the holding cell and I kick her out,” Lin warned.
Tenzin laughed aloud while she awkwardly stood there, waiting for him to stop. He was not acting like himself and Lin didn’t know how to behave. He calmed himself a few moments later, and smirked at Lin. “She’s just acting up, you know? Divorced parents- terrible father—”
“Tenzin!”
He blinked at her blankly.
“What’s going on with you?”
“I got divorced,” he said softly. His demeanor had totally changed. He looked somber now, emoting with his face instead of that frightening numbness. At least it seemed sincere. “It’s been very trying.”
“I’m sorry,” she said, placing her hand on his shoulder. “Is there any way I can help, old friend?”
Tenzin took her hand in his and squeezed it. “You’ve been perfect, Lin. Thank you for being my friend.”
“Of course,” she whispered. “I’m here for you.”
He snaked his arms around her back and hugged her lightly. She placed her arms on his shoulder and pat his back delicately. His arms glided over her back and squeezed her further into his body. She felt his beard by her neck and then she felt his kiss on her skin.
“Tenzin,”
His lips brushed over her ear and then down her cheek to find her mouth. They ghosted over her lips- it was a mere touch- when she stiffened and gently pulled away.
“We shouldn’t—”
“Yes,” he agreed. “I should leave.”
“Yeah.”
“I need to process—”
“You should.”
Now, at the balcony, Lin started remembering being Tenzin’s date. How they’d sneak away to hide from the boring lots like her current date. Sometimes, they’d fool around- and it was cute. And now it wasn’t because Lin could feel Tenzin’s lips haunting hers.
Abruptly, there was a switch in the wind. Instead of blowing in her face, it was now pushing her hair into her face. She looked straight into the horizon to see if the waves in Yue Bay had changed course when suddenly, Tenzin appeared right in front of her face.
Startled, Lin raised the stone platform to defend herself, and Tenzin just chuckled softly. He was seated on his air scooter and smiling- ever the picture of Aang if Lin could believe it.
“What are you doing here?!” she asked, still reeling from her start, bending the parapet back into place.
“Bumi told me you needed to be rescued from a boring gala, and, from an oath I swore on a mangled fruit pie about forty-five years ago, I’d always save you from any and all dull social engagements.”
Lin was taming her hair when Tenzin reached a hand out to help. “Sorry, I had to borrow some wind to fly up,” he said softly.
“When did Bumi talk to you?”
“He radioed me from the conference room downstairs,” he told her. “So, I flew right in.”
“That’s- thanks, Tenzin,” she whispered. “But I think I’ll be okay.”
“I’m sorry about the last time I saw you. It was… Difficult. Seeing you brought back a lot of feelings.”
“It’s fine, Tenzin,” she said.
“No, it’s not. I shouldn’t have tried to- anyway,” he replied. “How can I make your evening better?”
“I don’t think there’s all that much you can do,” she said. “I’m destined to a boring evening.”
Tenzin scoffed with amusement. “Of course not, Lin. So long as I’m here, the fate of your evening is in my hands.”
Lin snorted. He always knew how to make her laugh. “Why are you doing this?”
“Because,” he shrugged, beaming. “I have vowed to spend the rest of my life doing right by you. Whether it’s from a distance or floating right here to keep you company. I’ve done enough damage to your—”
“Tenzin, why?”
“I owe you all that you deserve and more.”
Lin shook her head. She rested her forearms on the parapet and placed her chin on top. Tenzin’s eyes gleamed at the sight.
“You’re beautiful, Lin. And that doesn’t even begin to cover why I have admired you my whole life.”
“Are you hitting on me, airhead?”
“Maybe.”
“You have to try harder, then.”
Tenzin flew over the parapet and landed beside her. She tilted her head sideways as he placed one hand on her arm. “Those green eyes you have could be the death of me,” he whispered.
Lin straightened up and turned to face him. “What do you want?”
“One chance,” he said. “Let me take you out on one date. Let me prove myself to you- to show you I’ve grown and just how much you’ve changed me.”
Lin rolled her eyes. “One date. That is all I will agree to.”
Overjoyed, Tenzin stepped forward and proffered his arms out. Lin ran into them and held him close. It was strange in a new way how they ended up hugging. She couldn’t help but relax in his arms. He was warm, comfortable and he smelled like home like he always did. She felt him squeeze her tighter as a drop of water touched her temple. At that she hugged him closer, ignoring the feeling that she was floating- because he’d always make her feel that way. Then, she turned up to face him and saw a single stray tear left on his cheek. But when she brought her hand up to wipe it was when she realized—
Immediately, she looked down.
They were not only a long distance from the gala, but also from the Earth. Best of all, there wasn’t an air scooter in sight.
“Tenzin,” she said fearfully.
He hummed.
“Tenz, we’re flying—”
“Wha—”
The airbender realized he had started soaring. Let go of his Earthly tether he did. He had entered a void in his embrace with Lin. Empty, and he became the wind.
“You’re not my Earth, Lin. You’re my wind.” His voice was hoarse from shock.
Lin was less than thrilled, however. “Sure, but let’s get back down to Earth, and—”
“We had it wrong this whole time. You’re my wind and I’m your Earth. We’re not bound by manmade tethers. It’s our very souls—”
“Tenzin!” she screamed. “Put me down this instant!”
He chuckled before pressing an innocent kiss to her cheek. “Yes, my soulmate.”

One Undead To Another (Chapter 6)
(Trigger warnings: drinking as self-medication is briefly mentioned/shown, more mentions of Shawn's neck wound being Very Bad, blood drinking, murder.)
“I’m starving.”
Something about Shawn’s voice makes all three other inhabitants of the car freeze.
There’s a desperation to it, but something else, too. Some underlaying quality that feels wrong, the way the air in the house was Choked with Nothing and the way seeing Shawn bloodied and motionless and devoid of life was inconcievable and the way that-
That-
The car is silent until Lassiter speaks up. “How’s his neck, Guster?”
“I cleaned it up, but-” Gus glances over, and his entire stomach leaps into his throat. It’s horrible, it’s mangled, and it’s Shawn. “Oh my god, I can’t look at it-”
“Do not throw up in this vehicle!” Gus wants to argue that Lassie and Jules are the ones getting vampire ashes and rotten blood all over the seats, but he’s too busy gagging. He tries to look at Shawn just out of the corner of his eye- Shawn is slumped in his seat. He looks like he should be breathing raggedly. He’s not breathing at all.
“Carlton, that’s not the priority right now!” Jules twists in her seat to look back at Shawn and Gus, and when Shawn laughs- quiet and raspy and in a way Gus would almost describe as rapturous, she softens.
And then the ghost, the ghost- Gus can’t handle the ghosts. Sitting in the seat between him and Shawn is Shawn’s grandma, which is freaky enough, but now Shawn’s grandpa is here too sitting inside the passenger seat and probably phasing a little into Jules as well and both ghosts are holding Shawn’s hands looking at him like he’s the dead loved one.
… He kind of is. Gus doesn’t want to think about that. The thought won’t leave him alone.
The ghost of Shawn’s grandpa, right after Shawn laughs, says in an almost scolding tone, “Didn’t your grandmother tell you to stop that kinda thinking?”
Gus wishes he’d been paying attention to the conversation Shawn had been having with his grandma before- or maybe it’s better he didn’t. He hopes he doesn’t know what Shawn was thinking, because his theory is-
Too much. Too much to handle right now.
The car is silent as Shawn talks in weak mumbles to his grandfather, as they start to play a game, as Shawn’s body language goes from limp and tired to limp and relaxed. It’s only then, when he seems completely disconnected from everything, that Lassiter once again breaks the silence.
“I’m driving to the hospital.”
“Carlton, he’s– he’s not–”
“He’s hurt.”
“Hospital can’t help him now, Detective.”
Lassiter, Jules, and Gus all scream in unison as Mary Lightly pops out of the dashboard like it’s a Whack-A-Mole game. Lassiter nearly swerves right off the road, Jules having to reach right through Mary’s head to yank the wheel back the other way at the last second!
Mary is unphased- mentally. Physically, he’s phasing through quite a lot. “You saw what was down there, Detective. You know what happened to him.”
Lassiter grips the steering wheel so tight Gus could swear he hears something crack- a knuckle or a car part, it’s intimidating either way. “He needs medical attention.”
“He needs a coffin.” Mary’s ghost angles his head to look at Shawn, but gets a stern and upset glare from Shawn’s Grandma instead. “That was insensitive. It’s true though. He’s going to have a hell of a hangover tomorrow…”
“Can it, Lightly,” Lassiter growls, looking a little green. “Unless you want to tell us what the hell happened in there I don’t want to hear a word.”
“You know what happened down there.”
“No, we really don’t. Mary, please tell us what Shawn was onto, why they had him tied up, why any of this happened!” Jules is pleading, but demanding- she’ll get her answers nicely, or she’ll get them unpleasantly, but either way she will get them. “Why did they do this to him?”
Mary looks at her, and nods once. “Because–” Mary looks Gus in the eyes. “-- he’s psychic.”
Gus closes his eyes. He remembers his lamaze breathing. He prays to god it’ll keep his heart and brain from exploding.
“They needed a psychic because of us. This.” Mary raises a see-through hand out of the air conditioner control knobs and gestures at himself and the other two ghosts. “Spirits congregate around psychics and other undead do not… like our presence. Though they didn’t expect quiet as explosive an ordeal as what went down.”
“What, they knew you’d be there and just didn’t plan for it? Bull.” Lassiter grips onto the story, the ability to poke holes, the ability to be skeptical and analytical and distracted.
“Exactly, Detective. Most psychics don’t do what Shawn does. Most spirits feel neutral at best towards those they follow. But Shawn… he actually uses his gifts to get justice. He’s haunted by fondness more than anything else.”
“They were all repaying him for solving their murders.” Jules’s voice is soft.
“He’s a favorite among the lingering dead. Psychics aren’t just people who can see futures, pasts, or spirits, Detectives. Shawn is one of the living connected to the world of the dead… or he was. This… upset the balance.” Mary gestures at Shawn’s whole body. Shawn himself is still completely disconnected– staring with unblinking, wrong-colored eyes, mumbling nonsense stories to his encouraging grandparents.
“And it let you all into the world?” Jules twists to look back at Shawn again. “Is this permanent?”
“No. In fact I’d say we have…” Mary licks his thumb and sticks it out, looking around at seemingly nothing before nodding to himself. “The rest of this car ride to stick around. Then it’ll be back to the invisible overlapping planes, giving Shawn snippets, and leaving what gets through to him up to the universe’s whims. Be patient with him after this, Detectives. His abilities are going to be… like a whole new experience.”
For a while no-one has anything to say. Mary stays risen out of the dashboard, just watching them all.
“... Is he going to be… Shawn? When this is all over?” Gus knows his voice doesn’t actually sound like when he was a child, but that’s what he hears. He hears himself, young and confused and scared, asking if his best friend is going to be okay.
“Of course he will, which means it’ll be a mixed bag. You know that, Gus.”
Jules swallows. “But will he be different? Himself, but… different? I mean, in the movies it always–”
“Exatrabates the worst traits, makes a spawn a manipulative mess, drains away all self-control in the internal battle for their eternal soul?” Mary finishes for her. “There’s not many former vampires among us, Detectives, so I can’t say for sure what will happen to him. Even the dead don’t know everything.”
“Right. Right. … So we should approach this with… caution. I know, we were going to already, but–”
Shawn’s head makes a thunk sound as it falls down from the glass onto the plastic interior of the door. Gus sits up and starts to reach over, heart pounding as images of Shawn lifeless and pale on the floor of a horrible basement flash to the forefront of his mind-
Shawn’s Grandma grabs his hand before he touches Shawn. “He’s just asleep dear. Best not to touch him yet. Just in case.” She pats Gus’s hand comfortingly. “Let him rest.”
“He usually snores.” Gus’s voice clogs in his throat, coming out thick and hard to understand. Shawn isn’t snoring now. He’s silent. Nothing moves, or makes the faintest hint of noise, or shows life. Because there is no life.
Shawn’s Grandma rubs his hand again. “I know. It… it’ll be difficult to get used to.”
More silence.
“... One the bright side, he was bitten by daywalkers,” Mary says just as they turn onto the street of Shawn’s latest apartment.
“Now’s not the time for puns,” Lassiter growls.
“I agree, did I make one?”
“Actually, I think Shawn’ll find it pretty funny. I’ll tell him… when he wakes up,” Gus says.
Because Shawn, Shawn, has to wake up. It has to be him, he has to, because if he doesn’t or if-if something else does–
He just… has to.
—-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The ghosts fade away entirely moments after Lassiter parks. Shawn’s face twists in his sleep for a moment, confused, as he reaches out restlessly to find the now-missing hands on his.
He gets Gus and Lassie hefting him up by his shoulders and legs instead, somehow staying asleep through the ordeal of getting him inside his apartment and dropping him onto his bed. He lays splayed out, arms and legs staying wherever they fell as Lassie and Gus heaved and tossed him. He’s still ashen, and still, and silent.
He looks like a corpse.
“Excuse me a second.” Gus runs into the bathroom and lets loose little more than bile. He retches until he can’t, and then some more, and by the time he stumbles out Shawn has shifted and is now cradling a pillow to his chest. Lassie and Jules stand over the bed, whispering harshly to each other.
“-- give him a chance! Mary said–”
“That he doesn’t know, O’Hara.” Lassiter swallows thickly. “I don’t like it either.”
“You’ve been talking about shooting him for four years.”
“I don’t mean it! Not lethally, anyway. Usually. … Only half the time.”
“Oh, hell no.” Gus puts himself between the detectives and the bed. “You two are not debating staking Shawn while I was throwing up!”
“No, we are not.” Jules levels Lassiter with a glare.
“Yes, we are.”
“You just risked your life to save him, now you wanna kill him?! You’re messed up, Lassie.”
“I don’t want to kill him! But look at him, Guster!”
Gus looks. He sees Shawn, hurt and vulnerable and tired.
“Look at his teeth.”
Shawn’s mouth is slightly parted in sleep, even though no breaths are drawn or exhaled. Gus doesn’t want to see them. He doesn’t want to, but they’re unmissable. Peeking out from the corners of his mouth, sharp and gleaming and dangerous.
He knew they’d be there- he knew what was happening, he was even told outright, but somehow seeing the fangs makes it hit all over again like it’s a surprise and this whole night- no, these just past couple of hours are too much, too much, too much and he collapses.
—-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“He’s Shawn!”
“He could kill someone.”
“He could always kill someone, anyone can kill someone!”
“O’Hara–”
“We did not go through all of that to not even give him a chance to prove he’s capable of staying himself.”
“What if he ends up like them, O’Hara? That’ll be on us.”
“Oh my god, Carlton, that is the most selfish-”
“Not because of that, O’Hara, because we let it happen! Those other ones almost drove us to declaring three murders a cold case.”
“But Shawn caught them! He saw through it!”
“And now he’s also a bloodsucking demon spawn!”
They’ve been going in circles, over and over. Gus passing out didn’t stop them, just paused the argument long enough to make sure he didn’t hit his head and then pick it right back up.
And Juliet knows. She knows why her partner is saying all of this, even when he doesn’t want to, she knows he doesn’t want to say it. But he’s right. If Shawn wakes up, and it’s his face but not him, what can they do? He was already a whirlwind, a force of nature in plaid shirts and jeans, and unstoppable force and immovable object meshed into one. What would he be without a sense of morality? What could he do?
… But it’s Shawn. He has fangs and skin colder than ice and no heartbeat but he’s also cuddling a pillow, and mumbling Gus’s name in his sleep, and he was laughing in the car and it’s him.
“Fine.” Juliet looks around and finds a broken bit of a fence among Shawn’s seemingly entirely random collection of belongings. She shoves it into Lassiter’s hands. “Do it, then.”
He’s visibly taken aback by the sudden change. “Are you serious?”
“Are you?”
They stand in that impasse for a moment, staring each other in the eyes, Lassiter’s hesitant and unsure and Juliet’s hardened and blazing– those red-eyed bloodsuckers could only wish for a glare like hers.
“Alright.” Lassiter squares his shoulders, then shakes them, then rolls them. He clears his throat, and raises the “stake”. He steps closer to the bed, over Gus’s unconscious body, and just above Shawn.
Juliet’s heart pounds.
Lassiter stands over Shawn, The dim lights, in deperate need of replacing, glint off of the fresh fangs in the corners of his mouth. He mumbles something unintelligible in his sleep, lips drawing back to show them in full. His eyes flutter open for just a second, bright red and–
And glazed, unfocused. He reaches out for something, and doesn’t find it, and his face crumples. His eyes shut again, and for the first time since Lassiter laid eyes on him in that basement Shawn draws breath- just to heave a sigh and fall back into breathless sleep, clutching the pillow closer to his body.
Lassiter stands there, holding a stake above Shawn, trying to see the danger here– the fangs and eyes and bloodless skin. He tries to summon up some of the fury, the irritation, the desperate pleas to the universe to just remove Spencer from his life already. It’s usually available in spades, when Shawn is running around like an idiot and making stupid declarations just to undermine him and cracking jokes at the worst times and encouraging Lassiter to go down completely untrodden paths of nonsensical hunches and trying to give him credit to The Chief and helping him primp for a date and–
And–
“... Dammit.” Lassiter lowers his arm, and then chucks the broken fence into a pile of other random stuff. “Damn it to hell!”
Juliet lets out a breath she’d been holding since Shawn opened his eyes, putting her hand on her partner’s shoulder. “We’ll see what the situation is first,” she says softly. “And I have no doubt Shawn will be his usual self when he wakes up. He always is.”
“... You’re probably right.” Lassiter looks down and kicks Gus lightly in the thigh, waking him up. “Spencer’s too much of a stubborn ass to let anything change him anyway. Even death.”
Gus groans and sits up. “That was the weirdest dream…” He looks up at Lassiter and Jules, and then at Shawn on the bed, and the blood drains out of his face. “Oh my god. It wasn’t a dream.”
Jules helps Gus stand back up. “Not a dream, but, Carlton and I came to an agreement. We’re going to make sure Shawn is fine before we do anything rash.”
“Oh. Good, ‘cause, I would’ve hated having to whoop Lassie’s ass.”
“Please. You couldn’t even beat me in a thumb-wrestling contest, much less and actual fight.”
“I could too.”
“You and Spencer fight like toddlers. Even before all this he was a biter, that’s the lowest move available to a grown man.”
“No, the lowest move is a knee to the- you know.”
He and Lassiter both wince just thinking about it. Jules rolls her eyes, and looks at Shawn. “So are we just… waiting for him to wake up now?”
“Seems like it.”
There’s a beat of silence.
“I’m seeing if he has any whiskey.” Lassiter walks out into Shawn’s “kitchen”- if it could be called that. This particular apartment used to be a small yoga studio, which means lots of open space and nowhere for a stove. The fridge is barely even a minifridge, and all it has is half a leftover burrito. Instead of cabinets there are plastic tubs, and they’re mostly full of non-perishable junky snacks.
“Great. As if tonight isn’t the biggest reason to get drunk I’ve had in my entire life, including my separation.”
“I think he’s going to be out for a while,” Jules sighs, coming into the “kitchen” as well. “Gus even pretended to use his hair gel and he still stayed asleep.”
Lassiter looks at the door. “... I think we need to go to a bar.”
“A bar? Carlton, we’re covered in ash and blood and Shawn could wake up any time.”
“I know, O’Hara. I just–” Lassiter brings a hand up to smooth his hair, and it’s shaking. “Could use a drink.”
“... Yeah. I could too.” Jules sighs. “But we can’t just leave Gus here. I know I said… but he was mumbling about being starving before…”
“And even if Guster gets away…”
“... But I can’t even imagine that. Can you? Shawn just… attacking someone?”
“O’Hara, before tonight I didn’t even believe Spencer was psychic.”
“Right. … Still, it seems genuinely impossible that could ever happen. Shawn just doesn’t…”
“... It does seem pretty impossible. Spencer and Dangerous don’t even feel like apart of the same language when put together.”
“Right?”
“... What if we put a cross in front of his door? To hold him inside?”
“... Actually…”
—-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gus would have bet his entire 401K on the certainty he’d never go to a bar with Lassie and Jules without Shawn before tonight. And he almost hadn’t, until Shawn rolled over and Gus caught sight of his neck again and had another fit of gagging and crying that ended with Jules helping him nurse a cup of warm tap water while Lassiter tried and failed to find non-stale crackers.
So now he’s nibbling at peanuts, drinking more heavily than he has since he got married in a sweater vest with a goat as his best man, and trying to forget that he saw his friend dead on the ground less than four hours ago.
He’s not succeeding at it yet, and it looks like Lassie and Jules aren’t either- so another round of shots are called for, and maybe this time it’ll be enough to make his hands stop shaking.
—-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SMASH!
The sound of breaking glass doesn’t get him up. Nor does the unsubtle hiss of pain, or the thump of clumsy boots against the ground.
The smell of blood is what makes him open his eyes. Not quite awake, though- not really. He’s in a haze, and he’s dreaming, and he’s hungry.
“Stupid window,” he hears a voice mutter. “Wh- since when is this- aw hell, how outdated is my small businesses map? There’s nothing worth more than fifty bucks in here.”
He’s not sure when he got up- isn’t that the most disorienting part of dreams? Things just Happen, and there’s no trackable reasoning for it. One second he was on the bed, the next he’s crouched low in his doorway, out of immediate eyeline, just like it was drilled into him to do…
“Does this heap at least have band-aids somewhere? Sss, ah, crap. Right through my glove, this is- ah, shit, if anyone’s home I’m toast. … Nah, nah, someone woulda woken up by now.”
It doesn’t smell quite as good as… actually, he’s not sure what he’s comparing the smell to. Is he comparing? This is a weird dream. His stomach hurts. His mouth hurts just as bad. When he takes a deep breath, he can taste iron in the air. The breath holds in his chest. Doesn’t he usually have to breath out? His chest doesn’t hurt though. It doesn’t matter anyway. How hasn’t this wannabe burglar noticed him? He’s practically getting a piggyback ride from the man.
Bum-bum. Bum-bum. Bum-bum.
It’s still missing something. He doesn’t know what. But it’s still good.
“Not a single band-aid, who lives like thi- mmmph!”
Warm. It’s warm, tangy, a little sweet. It coats his throat like a pineapple smoothie after hours of pouring over a stubborn case without a break. Dry, cracked, raw- it all goes away, smoothed over as it flows down his throat. His neck starts to hurt less- had it been hurting the whole time? His stomach was. It’s finally calming down. He bites harder. What is he biting? He doesn’t know. What a weird dream. It’s all gone so, so soon. He drops something. Something big hits the floor. He turns his cloudy vision away and stumbles back to bed. He collapses onto it, grabbing a pillow and curling loosely around it. He’d woken up feeling cold, stiff, but now he sinks into his mattress. The breath finally leaves his lungs, a deep sigh, as he drifts back into a more restful sleep than he ever had in his life.

Hello! ✨✨✨ I’m so thankful I came across your blog! (I too am from the south and a big tmnt and CoD fan ❤️) I hope you have the most amazing day ever!
I’m gonna throw a mashup request to ya and don’t even worry about getting to it! I’m just curious is all!
So, for starters my name’s Mak ❤️ I’m 24, 5’0” (my drivers license says 4’11, but let’s ignore that-) and I’m an ENFP. I have a bachelors degree in counseling (it’s on my fridge shhh-) and I love volunteering and I love kids.
I have a HUGE family and I pride myself in making sure my nieces and nephews and younger siblings have someone awesome to look up to (let’s pretend I’m awesome?) also, I’m from the middle of nowhere up in the Appalachian mountains so my accent is very very thick unfortunately. I’m a bit loud too and people have told me I don’t have the ability to whisper at all? Idk maybe I do maybe I don’t. I like traveling and going new places and trying new foods. I’ll be honest though, I’m definitely a sloth. I love rotting in bed with my cat and anyone else’s pets. I love animals and I love going to the zoo and aquarium.
I wear thick glasses because my eyes suck and even with glasses I still can’t see (big bummer but life goes on), and I say “huh?” Like every 5 seconds.
My love languages are words of affirmation, physical touch and quality time. I love squishmallows and build a bear. Favorite colors are yellow and pink.
I also would binge watch The Sims gameplay on YouTube all day if I could. Only chaos mods though. It brings me joy and I’d hope my mashup would like that too.
I promise I’m a delight to be around despite the loud, southern accent and southern slang that no one could understand.
I hope you have the best day/week ever! Remember to take a break and take care of yourself too!
Much love,
-Lambie ✨✨❤️❤️
I'll match you with....
Johnny "Soap" MacTavish
Soap would definitely be your match
I can see you two having fun around each other
Best friends in an instant
He will be the one to watch your youtube The Sims binge vids with you
The more time he spends with you the deeper his feelings grow for you
You two understand the struggles and blessings of having big families
I've heard that most people find the thick southern accent to be cute and charming
I think Soap would, too
Oh can this man flirt
Flirt is probably his middle name xD
"Hey, feel my jacket. You know what material it's made out of? Boyfriend material." *winks*
He'd even playfully tease you about you being small
"Ah, my bonnie wee lassie~" with the goofiest (but sexy) grin
But ofc he's just joshin' ya
He loves you the way you are
Soap is such a sweetheart ;;v;;
Words of love and hugs and kisses all the time
Even if it's in your bed 😉😊

Part of veteran Lassie AU:
He doesn’t do lots of undercover, but he does sometimes pose as a homeless man: James “Jam” Smith - this time to investigate a group which kidnapped homeless and pitted them against each other for food and clothes in a fight club.
Bc of Carter & June (2017), aka the Spencer Rabbit movie feat. Others I can’t get moral-less Lassie out of my head.
Spoilers under the cut:
That one scene in the bar where he explains how orders were given in the organization he worked for:
“When he wanted someone dead, he’d say “Send the fa*got with the knife. If he wanted them alive he’d say “end the fa*got with a hammer””
And i just imagine that’s how school, then army, and then police worked for lassie before he “proved his worth” (or in some cases, even after.
He just starts fighting and gets in the “eliminate obstacles, obtain target” headspace - sometimes after he cannot remember what he did but he regrets it. Most of the time.

What?!? An update to a story I haven’t updated in months?!? That’s right! I got hit by an attack of writing and inspiration! So enjoy!!!
(Need a refresher first? Here.)
Wherever You Are, I Am
Part 44
“Good morning sir.”
McCoy looked up as he entered the classroom with Scotty. Astrid was sitting in her usual spot.
“Hello Astrid,” McCoy replied. “This is Lt. Commander Scott.”
“Hello sir,” Astrid said promptly.
“Aye lassie, hello.”
“Astrid, could you give us a moment please?”
“Of course Dr. McCoy. Would you like others kept out as well?”
“Just for a few minutes, please.”
“Bright lass,” Scotty said after Astrid had left the room.
“She’s been a big help,” McCoy agreed. “She’s looking to be a botanist like Sulu.”
Scotty nodded.
“You didn’t have to walk to class with me,” McCoy said. “I could have said goodbye at home.”
“I know,” Scotty said softly. “I just wanted the few extra minutes with ye.”
“I know, I did too.”
Scotty looked at him quietly for a moment before he stepped forward and embraced McCoy.
“It’ll be soon love,” Scotty whispered in his ear. “Holiday break will be here before we know it.”
“We’ll have a whole week,” McCoy whispered back. He leaned back, then cupped his hands around Scotty’s face and kissed him.
“Bye mo ghràdh,” Scotty when he pulled back.
“Bye Monty.”
McCoy stood near his teaching podium and watched Scotty leave.
“He’s all yours again lass,” he heard Scotty say to Astrid outside the door.
McCoy took a breath to center himself as Astrid walked back in followed by a couple cadets. He turned to get his lesson pulled up.
“Alright sir?” Astrid asked quietly.
“Yes,” McCoy answered.
“That was your husband?” Astrid asked even quieter.
McCoy felt his eyebrow raise in confusion.
“I read up on you sir, remember?”
McCoy let out a chuckle. “Yes that was. He came from Yorktown to Riverside and surprised us.”
“That's so sweet,” Astrid said with a sigh. “Us, sir?” she asked a moment later.
More students were entering the classroom.
“Jaylah and I. I thought you read up on me cadet?” McCoy grinned.
Astrid gave a sheepish smile. “I must have skimmed that part. Jaylah is your—”
“Family,” McCoy said. “I can’t believe I haven’t introduced you two. She would benefit from an older cadet showing her and her roommate around.”
“I’d love to meet her,” Astrid said.

Ooooooo this sounds fun, I’ll do it
1. Underprivileged Mentee, Hollabackatcha
2. Shawn Takes a Shot in the Dark
3. Shawn’s time away from SB PLEASE WHAT WAS HE DOING
4. Mr Yang
5. Pierre being an agent was DEFINITELY a con because Shawn’s criminal bf is definitely a criminal fight me. He’s got EVERYONE fooled (except Shawn lol)
6. One is too hard I’ll pick 3: a. “That’s my gun” “So you know it works” b. Jules finding out he’s not psychic confession scene. c. Jukes hearing Shawn confess his love over the wire scene.
7. When Yin is about to kill them and Gus says something like “If I had the chance to go back and do it all again I would”
8. When she takes down the bad guy in the online dating episode
9. “Nice shooting, detective” “Did you just call me detective?” “….no”
10. “You two are not hired on this case” “DAAD!” “They’re hired” “What?!”
11. When she was reprimanding Shawn and Gus to “stay off the case” but told them they “never had this conversation” Also her goodbye scene.
12. Shawn Spencer, Psychic Detective
13. Burton Guster, Pharmaceutical Salesman
14. FREAKING TROUT (rarely have I hated a character more. As a person, not as a character)
15. Shules definitely. (or, as the discord calls them, Shajookie-cookie 🍪🛼)
16. Either “Gus don’t be exactly half of an eleven pound Black Forest ham,” “Gus don’t be the ‘iiiiiiii’ in ‘wait for iiiiiiiiit’” or “Gus don’t be the only black lead on a major cable network”
17. I don’t do hc’s that much, I just appreciate others. Can’t say no to Bi icon Shawn Spencer but that’s basically canon so…
18. I enjoyed it as a musical enjoyer. It felt like a psych episode with music, and it was entertaining. Not all the songs hit, but the good ones are AWESOME (I’ve Heard It Both Ways and Santa Barbara Skies are my personal favorites)
19. Christmas Joy
20. “Suck it” “You suck it” “🎶Suck iii~t🎶” I use it on my siblings almost daily
21. Definitely Shawn, he would be very entertaining for 24 hours, also I’d want to see what he could “psychically” read off me
22. I specifically remember the day when at a friends house, she insisted we would enjoy the show, and we watched Last Night Gus. My siblings and I then went home and proceeded to binge watch it while showing our parents. It is the only show that we can all agree on when nothing else works.
23. I’ve got 3 crossovers that I think about. B99 is a cool one that would be very funny. A crossover with the show “The Pretender” was actually a dream of mine and it was pretty fun from what I remember. Finally, I would DIE for a Fnaf crossover, there was a previous post I reblogged about this and I still think about it at night.
24. When Shawn says that Gus has to go help save Jules while he gets Abigail because it was the only way he could know she would be alright AHHHHHHH I LOVE IT SM
25. I absolutely adore the “Heeeeeres Lassie!” version of the theme, the filtered vocals and the simple repeated “I know, you know” is just AHH so goodddddd.
Psych (2006) Ask Game because this is my favorite show and I'm making it everyone else's problem.
What is your favorite Gus nickname?
What is your favorite episode?
Which plot point/storyline do you wish had been expanded on in the show?
Favorite culprit?
Was Pierre Despereaux really an INTERPOL agent or was it all a con?
Favorite Shawn moment?
Favorite Gus moment?
Favorite Jules moment?
Favorite Lassie moment?
Favorite Henry moment?
Favorite Karen moment?
Favorite main character?
Favorite secondary character?
Least favorite character?
Favorite ship?
Favorite "Gus don't be"-ism?

&. 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐥𝐟 𝐛𝐲 𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬.
( dialogue prompts taken from marvel’s werewolf by night, directed by michael giacchino. feel free to edit and change as you seem fit. )
❛ the known universe, with its heroes and marvels, but what of the darkness? ❜
❛ fifty seven confirmed kills myself. ❜
❛ i can almost smell the blood on your hands. ❜
❛ i like your whole look here with the makeup. it's a killer trademark. ❜
❛ i understand the importance of anonymity in our line of work, but it gets lonely.❜
❛ so, any of these hacked beasties your handiwork? ❜
❛ give me what's mine, i'll leave now. ❜
❛ so many death dealers in one room. ❜
❛ a monster unlike anything you've faced will be released into these sacred grounds. ❜
❛ good luck. i'll be rotting for you. oh, forgive me. graveyard humor. ❜
❛ those who do not survive will be honored appropriately. ❜
❛ for tonight, it is every hunter for themselves. ❜
❛ we spill all blood for the hunt. ❜
❛ there is no peace without blood, and so it shall be. ❜
❛ i suggest we just pass each other by. ❜
❛ death is coming for you, lassie! ❜
❛ well, of course i was gonna come find you. ❜
❛ you keep saying that you're gonna be careful each time, and here we go again. ❜
❛ you can't keep counting on me to save you. this is the last time. ❜
❛ all you have to do is don’t die. ❜
❛ how’s your night going? ❜
❛ you didn't want to fight before either, did you, running into me? ❜
❛ i'm having a hard time believing you hunted and killed monsters. ❜
❛ well, i'm not that type of hunter. ❜
❛ you know, maybe we can help each other. ❜
❛ ‘cause you're, what, the monster's friend? ❜
❛ all families have something in common. they follow us. for good, for bad. ❜
❛ we could die here. it's an option. it's not my choice, but it's an option.❜
❛ cross me, and i’ll kill you. ❜
❛ you have a lovely name. and your friend is waiting for you. ❜
❛ a monster. masquerading as one of our own. ❜
❛ you freed a monster with a monster? ❜
❛ i can't wait to find out what breed of evil you are. ❜
❛ until you rip my throat out, i suppose i’m fine. ❜
❛ yeah, i know, i'm an idiot. i know. but i'm also a human. ❜
❛ i'm also a human. perhaps not in the category that you would call a human a human. ❜
❛ you see, i've got systems to manage the hurt i could cause... ❜
❛ just stay away from me until you can't. ❜
❛ i would never hurt you or hurt any one of them. ❜
❛ any hunting that i do is done by a part of me that is not me. and that’s not the part you’re with right now. ❜
❛ the next full moon is in five days. we have plenty of time to figure something out. ❜
❛ i shouldn't have asked for your help. ❜
❛ i need you to look at me. okay? do not break eye contact, no matter what.❜
❛ i need to remember you. ❜
❛ just kill me as i am. otherwise there will be no mercy, i promise. ❜
❛ once this is over, you'll notice my hands are clean. his? not so much. ❜
❛ [name], you still in there? ❜
❛ man, i cannot think of food right now. ❜
❛ let’s do sushi. i owe you that. ❜

millie x thr.awn + thalassa
just wanted to write some cute fankid fluff :) there's just a touch of angst at the end but nothing too serious or heavy.
“And I putted it on top,” Thalassa explained, standing beside her block tower. “See? The princess is on top.”
“You put it on top. I do see,” Thr.awn replied. He sat beside the block tower and listened to Thalassa with a serious expression. “Why is she on top of the tower?”
“Because she’s a princess. And a princess has to…” Thalassa scratched her nose as she formulated her next sentence. “A princess has to look at everyone.”
“She must be very responsible.”
“Ress-ponss-ibbul,” the little girl repeated. “What’s that?”
Thr.awn considered how best to explain duty and integrity to a three-year-old. “It means she cares for the people she looks after.”
“Like you?”
He smiled gently. “Like me.”
Thalassa handed him another one of her dolls – a set of dress-up dolls from Csilla, a gift from her uncle Eli – and began to explain the next bit of the game. “Okay, Papa, you’re gonna be a bad guy. And you’re gonna, gonna… gonna knock down the tower!”
Thr.awn examined the doll, a male figure in what Millie assumed to be formal wear of some kind. “Why is he bad?”
“He wantsa knock down the tower,” Thalassa said, furrowing her brows, as if she were the adult explaining the concept to a three-year-old and not the other way around. “His name is Mister, and he’s a bad guy.”
Millie smiled as they watched from the kitchen as their daughter and husband played. Thalassa didn’t give her dolls very normal names – Mister, Woman, and Elbow were their favorite examples. Thr.awn had attempted to suggest traditional Chiss names for the dolls, but Thalassa could hardly say her own full name, so Millie gently shot it down.
He was so sweet and earnest with children, as if still a child himself, in some regard. Yet it had been years since Thrawn had been this close with a girl as young as Thalassa. He was still trying to feel out how he should interact with her. In Millie’s opinion, it was adorable.
“I see.” Thr.awn set Mister’s feet on the ground and made him hop forward. “I am Mister, Destroyer of Towers.”
“Oh! No!” Thalassa shouted. “You can’t do that! That’s not nice!”
In a deep, comically evil-sounding voice, Thr.awn said, “I am not nice.”
Millie had to step away as the timer sounded, signifying their cookies were done. They arranged three plates for lunch time: a nut-paste and jelly sandwich, celery with dressing, and of course, two cookies for dessert. Millie finished the meal with a glass of apple juice for them and Thalassa, and water for Thr.awn. “It’s lunchtime, you two!”
Thalassa squealed in excitement, sprinting into the kitchen. “Don’t run in the kitchen, Lassie,” Millie reminded them. “You can get hurt in here if you run.”
“Sorry, Mama.”
“It’s alright. Just remember it for next time.” They helped her into her booster seat, and set her plate in front of her. “Go ahead and start eating.”
Thalassa had just started to tear apart her sandwich when Thr.awn sat down at the table. The Chiss man wiped a bit of nut-paste off her chin with a napkin, then turned his attention to his own meal. “I hope you don’t mind. I didn’t feel like anything too fancy today.”
“It’s made by you. It’s wonderful,” Thr.awn said.
Millie touched his hand, smiling to themself at his warmth. The scene was pure, domestic bliss: just them, their husband, and their beautiful little girl. The family was staying at an apartment on Coruscant as the Chimaera underwent repairs. Within a week, they’d be back on the Star Destroyer. It made Millie feel a bit guilty, hating that damn ship. Oh, well, they mused. That was part of marrying a military man. And though he wasn’t home during the day while onboard, at night, Thr.awn was just as doting of a father as he was now.
Thalassa yawned, her nose wrinkling. “I think you should lay down for a nap after lunch,” Millie said. They glanced at Thr.awn, and added, “Mama and Papa might need one, too.”
“M’kay. Can we play more dolls after? Please? You too, Mama?”
“Of course, little one.” Thr.awn leaned over and kissed her forehead. “Are you done eating?” When she nodded, he stood up. “Let’s go get dressed in your jammies and lay down. Millie, love, I’ll be back in a moment.”
“If I’m not in here, I’ll be in bed.”
After putting away the trash and dishes, Millie made the bed. They were fluffing the pillows when the door opened, and then two broad arms wrapped around their waist. “Sorry it took a bit. Thalassa insisted on unbuttoning her shirt herself.” They could hear a hint of anxiety in his voice, and they smiled gently as they turned to him.
“You’re feeling inadequate again, aren’t you?”
Thr.awn sighed. “I can never hide anything from you, love.”
“Let me assure you that you’re doing just fine. It makes me so happy, seeing you play with her like that. And it’s good for her. Not only as she grows as a person, but because she gets to spend time with her Papa.” Millie laid a hand over his heart. “She loves you so much, Thr.awn. And when she’s older, she’ll remember these moments of you trying so hard and doing your best, and she’ll love you even more.”
The corners of his lips tugged into a little smile. “Thank you.”
“Now, c’mon. You’re wasting valuable nap time. She’ll be awake and energetic before we’ve even laid down.”
Thr.awn yawned as he gestured to the bed. “After you, euhn in’a.”

Theres Something About Mira
Aka
KERRY FUCKING WASHINGTON
Lets talk about Mira! To be honest, the first time i watched it she was so over the top it was a bit distracting, but now it just comes across as delightfully ridiculous like the rest of the show. Her character is pretty interesting though, and could have really been fleshed out into a love interest for Gus instead of a plot device. I actually think she could have been good for him because she’d push him outside his comfort zone (like shawn does. Theres an interesting parallel happening with them- fun-loving, adventurous, irresponsible, can’t stay in one job). Sidenote, do you think she actually called Gus 100 times after he broke it off, or do you think he ghosted her because he was scared to confront her? Anyways, it wouldn’t last, but it could have been interesting to see if they could come to a compromise. Plus i feel like her and Shawn would really get along, and it would’ve been fun to see him play the responsible one to her chaos, since he’s usually the chaos master, and it’d be funny to see Shawn doing everything he could to avoid being in the same room as her mother.
it’s so weird to remember there was a whole period of Shawn and Gus’s life where they weren’t always together. I wonder how hard that was for them to separate for the first time in their lives. I have this whole headcanon (slightly angsty) that shawn was visiting him so much at school that people thought he was living in the dorm room instead of Gus, and Gus basically told shawn he needed space to become his own man without him sucking the air out of the room in like the heat of the moment (which gus regretted immediately). And shawn obliged and took off for all his side jobs. But without a cell phone, gus had no way to contact him and had to wait for the postcards to find out where he’d been until Shawn eventually called him (likely from mexico), and Gus apologized and shawn laughs it off like he hadn’t been thinking about it the whole time, and tells him to forget about it. Then they just pretend like it never happened. This would kind of explain why neither of them know about each others early 20’s college age life. Gus didn’t know about Shawns stint at the museum, and then of course, Gus didn’t tell Shawn about Mira (or the acapella group he was in, in a later ep).
OW
Lassies a little bitch in this ep haha but I’ll tell ya what, I love when two people are arguing about who does something better and then a third person comes along and blows them both out of the water and they both have to tuck their tails between their legs ;)
Dulé has some of the best line deliveries in the show! The way he says “you’re trying to tell me you went skydiving with a rabbi?” Is so goddamn funny. He’s such a great co-star for james because he can shine all on his own and doesn’t fade into the background which i think would be easy to do when you have a lead who is both the brains, the cool, and the funny at the same time. I think on a less sophisticated show Gus would’ve been the straight man, the one putting up with his antics and wrangling him in, and thats it. But he’s his own person and gets to be funny and the straight man when the times calls and it never feels out of character. Dulé, 👏👏
P.S I hope to god we meet Gay Andy someday

Hai! I have another request ( if it's okay ) can you do a donna x fem pirate reader where Donna is just wondering around with Angie when she found a portal to another dimension that leads to a beach where the reader's ship is alongside the shore then they went to inspect it but ended up being caught by the crew and brought her to the captain of the ship ( which is the reader )
Donna Beneviento X F!Reader
Quick talk, this will be in two parts. I missed some of your idea to keep for the next part because I had ended up getting caught in writing this that I completely forgot to check through the request again. My deepest apologise for that but I promise to have the next part up soon.
Part 2- https://saturatedboy.tumblr.com/post/657437883445166080/donna-beneviento-x-fempiratereader
Requests: Open
Words: 3k
The fragrance of sugar and chocolate had diffused around the small room. Sat back in her chair was none other that Lady Beneviento, Donna. Brining the china cup up to her slightly chapped lips, she sipped the Earl Grey tea and sighed in delight as the steaming liquid ran down into her stomach system. Gently placing her cup down, she looked to the other side of the small round table that was surrounded by nature's plants. At the other end was Angie, the doll, chewing down on some Victorian sponge cake. Donna raised her dainty hand to her lips to hide the small smile that had sketched itself onto her face. Keeping her lips pursed together, she held in the chuckle that threatened to escape from Angie having some icing around her mouth. Pushing the chair out, the metal scraping amongst the wooden floor, Donna had raised herself out from her chair and walked over to Angie, picking up a napkin that was settled in the middle of the table.
Making her way towards Angie, she took the doll's head within her hand and dapped at the white smooth icing that had coated her mouth. "I know you can't feel but please do try to be careful when eating." Donna spoke softly, folding the used napkin up and placing it next to Angie's now finished plate.
"Yeah yeah, I know. But now we have had our afternoon tea, I think it's time for an adventure!" Gliding up from her own chair this time, which was stacked with books so Angie could reach the table when sat, the doll had grabbed it's toymakers hand and whooshed out through the many corridors.
"Angie, I wasn't finished with my drink," The whine came from Donna's mouth, her veil flying behind her unmasked face as she tried her best to keep up with her doll's quick speed when flying. Angie however completely ignore the cries of Donna and dragged her to he front of the manor by the cloak rack. A stern look had edged its way onto Donna's features as she was still upset about her tea going cold.
"I will make you more after a walk in the woods!" Angie swirled herself around the cloak rack and grabbed a black cloak for Donna to ear. Twirling herself around Donna, Angie placed the cloak on and tied the front into a bow. "There now lets go!" Donna shook her head slowly and flipped her veil over her face, only to follow Angie out of the manor, still wishing she could of finished her cup of tea.
"10 green bottles on a wall...10 GREEN BOTTLES ON A WALL!" Donna mentally screamed in her head as she listened to Angie scream. Although her behaviour would be accepted in the manor, Donna was very against of any attention outside her territory, which to her was mostly the manor.
"Angie, please keep it down a little," She whispered, closing her eyes as she followed the familiar path through her woods. Angie groaned loudly and dropped her arms to place weight onto her float. She let her eyes turns about as she started to spin in the air to give herself entertainment since she wasn't allowed to be loud.
"Spinning I am, spinning indeed." Angie talked to herself as she continued spinning, completely unaware of Donna having her eyes closed behind her veil as she herself was subconsciously following Angie's voice. As Angie was spinning, being unaware of her surroundings, she came connected to a rather large tree that had branches sprouting far and wide. "OW!" She screeched, altering Donna of the sudden pain. Donna opened her eyes and hurried towards Angie who was now sat on the dirt floor looking up at what she knocked into. "WOAH!" She cried out as she was back up floating around the large trunk. "When were you going to tell me you have a huge tree!?" She questioned Donna, circling around the trunk once and gliding towards Donna to settle onto her shoulder.
"I...didn't." Much just like Angie, Donna was also curious about the tree. She knew her territory like the back of her hand and she was more than sure that this tree had just came out of nowhere. Kneeling down onto the slightly soggy dirt, she inspected the large roots that were coted in a slimy orange substance. Dragging a finger through the slime, she fiddled with it between her index and thumb. "How strange, I haven't seen anything like this before."
"Oooooo maybe it's magic!" Angie threw her hands wide, her head doing a full 360 as she wriggled herself about on Donna's shoulder. Donna wiped the substance off her fingers onto the ground, pulling herself back onto her feet as she stared through her black veil at the now growing orange. "Erm Donna, what did you do?" Angie asked, watching as the orange had sprouted its way higher up the tree from the roots, to the trunk and so on, accompanied by a slight rumbling erupting from what sounded like inside the trunk.
"I have no idea Angie!" Shielding herself and Angie with her hands by crouching and hugging Angie close, Donna closed her eyes as the orange glow grew lighter and brighter in colour, changing into a warm white. She felt her body became much warmer as her head began to spin. Not knowing what was going on, she felt the faint touch of breeze brushing through her cloak. Letting herself fall onto her side, Angie still in grasp, Donna curled around and let whatever was going on to happen.
"-off mine. Go scrub the lower decks Decker."
"And why should I! I was only takin' a look!" Donna groaned as she felt the sudden feel of sickness wash over her body. She curled tighter as she felt like her body was swaying side to side. Trying to pride her eye open, she was met with the once darkness she had remember seeing from when she was first experimented on with the Cadou. A deep feeling of fear washed over her
"Because I'm the captain and you don't want to make the Captain angry now do ya boy?" Donna's fear increased at the sound of the voice. It was dripping in venom and threats that even she felt frightened of. The voice wasn't familiar either and the accent was one she hadn't heard before, Donna could've swore she knew everyone from the village, even the small children that had wished to see her to make flowers crowns with her when the festivals would be around.
"No ma'am-"
"Captain Decker. I am your Captain. Now off ye go boy before I get Slasher on ya. Beat it." The noise of heavy footprints had sped past Donna's head as she kept still, trying to keep her breathing to a minable. As far as she was now aware, whoever this captain was should be the only person left with her- wait no. Angie....where was Angie? More heavy footprints has walked past her head but whoever this pair has stopped right next to her head. Donna kept still on her side, not daring to even open her eyes in fear her veil may not be covering her face.
Silence was between all of them.
...
"I know you're awake~" The same voice, the Captain's voice this time was right above her ear making Donna squirm under the heat that came from the mouth. Shaking in anticipation, Donna shot her upper body up and pulled her knees to her chest, feeling small against the new person she has came in contact with. Looking up and keeping her eyes wide, she was in complete utter shock. In front of her stood a rather tall woman. Above average height she would compare her height to. Her hair was knotted, having a large Tricorn hat with a white feather place amongst the small nest of hair. A wide grin with small sharp teeth was scarred on the face of the female. She stood tall, a sword hanging from her hip with a long tail coat in white covered her body mostly with the front being open wide. Underneath the tail coat was a white waist coat, hugging the figure perfectly. White tights were worn with brown boots that reached the knee area. Donna's mind flicked to one word and one word only,
Pirate. Just like in the many stories she had read to Angie in the past. In front of her was a pirate, and a good looking one too in her eye. "Say there lassie, ye a long way from home ain't ya?" She spoke loudly, a chuckle rumbling her chest as she stared down at Donna. Donna was beyond speechless, did she transport world? Pirates were made up stories, they belonged in a book but the tree....the tree.
"Donnaaaaaaa," A satisfied sigh left Donna's mouth as she heard the familiar voice of her partner in crime. Looking around her space trying to find where she was, Donna saw blue the surrounded the scratch wood she was on. Looking back at the female pirate, she saw behind her an upper deck that had led to a steering wheel with a large male behind it with a pipe in his mouth. Looking behind herself, Donna saw the bow of what she now knew to be a ship. A sudden grip wrapped itself around Donna's back, a giggle escaping from whoever it was. "Donna we can be pirates! Oh this is a wonderful adventure!" Angie screamed out, squeezing herself under Donna's left arm to hug her from the front instead. Beneviento looked down at Angie, who now had a small hat on top of her grey veil.
"Angie, oh Angie." Donna huffed out as she hugged her doll close, being glad she was safe and not a single scratch on her.
"Gotta say, she's quite the hyper character ain't she. Pretty tough when up against Slasher as well. My mutt was gonna take a swig at 'er head there" Donna glared at the female pirate, feeling invaded and insulted that she would call Angie out on her character so easily like that.
"And you're just a...just a..." Donna threw her head to look back at Angie failing to come up with an insult to fend Angie's honour.
"Don't mind her, she's just head over heels for cute girls like yourself," Donna flicked Angie's head at her sudden words. Donna was sure she wasn't interested in fictional characters. Donna preferred to be clean, not like a pirate who would stay in the dirt and drink beer till they pass out inly to want a 'good time' when it was for their own personal needs. The thought of even dating a pirate sent shivers up her spine.
"I ain't no cute girl, I prefer the words dare devil or even maybe sexy~" The female flirted back, staring directly at Donna. Donna let go of Angie and stood up, her shy demeanour was long gone. She crossed her arms over her chest and threw her veil up not daring to take such immature behaviour from the other. The other had gasped, but not in shock but rather like she had just found treasure.
"Sexy isn't a word to describe such yourself- gosh I don't even know your name."
The pirate smirked, leaning their arm on the grip of their word as she lightly leaned back on her knee. She licked her teeth and smiled peevishly. "The name's (Y/n), however on the sea 'ere the name's Captain Silver-ring." Donna grimaced at the sudden outtake of the 'Captain Silver-ring's hand. She softly knocked it away from herself with her own hand and tutted, Angie watching from the side lines next to a rather buff dog which had seated itself on top of a barrel.
"I prefer it if you didn't touch me (Y/n). Contact by others isn't something I'm much used to." The quick explanation from Donna had created a head tilt from the Captain. She way beyond confused, what was a lassie doing dressed in full black even doing on her boat. Everyone in the area knew that contact was the only quick way to gain any booty, either by stealing or by taking- totally not the same.
The captain slowly nodded her head, a finger drumming on her cheek. "Okay, so ye on my boat with no thoughts of getting any of me treasure? Who are you working for? The Wooden Boot? Maybe you're a stealer for the Crow's Eye. I always knew she would try take me booty." Angie laughed out-loud drawing the attention of all the sailors on board the ship, even Donna.
"She said booty!" Donna covered her eyes slightly, feeling embarrassed. Her she was, a new world with new people and she may end up dying here. Great...just great.
"So if ye not 'ere to steal me booty, why are you 'ere then?" (Y/n) asked suspiciously as she then began to circle Donna, making her feel smaller than ever. Under the intense glare that (Y/n) gave out, Donna could only whimper slightly until the same light headed feeling came back to her just like before she came to be transported here.
"I don't know, I just somehow got here." Donna mumbled, letting herself drop to her knees with her head hung down. (Y/n) waited and stared at Donna, only getting bright eyes when she signalled everyone off top deck. Hurried feet ran down below, leaving just the captain, Donna, Angie and Slasher on top as night began to roll in.
"I never got ye name," (Y/n) said, kneeling down but keeping distance away from Donna after remembering she didn't like contact.
"I'm lady Beneviento-"
"A LADY! Oh my gosh, Where are my manners." Donna raised a brow as she lifted her head, it swirling around a bit, and watched as (Y/n) bowed.
"My Lady Beneviento-" A quiet gasp came from Donna's mouth. Never in her life was she ever called by 'my'- it was oddly comforting. "-I am Captain Silver-Ring, name belonged to me mother who used to be the greatest pirate of all times. I am in her place as Captain of the white vessel, I strive to find the treasure she never found."
Angie began to bounce up and down, the sudden energy that surrounded them all made her giddy- especially the loudness of (Y/n)'s voice. "An what is that treasure?!" Angie asked excitedly, seemingly slightly affected by the same feeling of Donna with the light headedness as she would use her hands to steady herself straight.
"Well, it's simple- kinda." Donna waited for an answer, her vision slightly blurring as she looked up at the Captain who was now on two feet. Swinging her sword out, she raised it high as the sunset light had bounced off the silver blade. "And that is to find the perfect woman to be with forever!"
Just like she was hit with cupid's arrow, Donna fell suddenly to the ground and felt the same sickness run over her body. She dropped in temperature as she held tightly onto the cloak that covered her body. Closing her eye, she sucked her lips in and bit on them to keep her mouth shut. She didn't feel like throwing up t the moment, gosh no but the burning sensation building up in her stomach would want to beg her to.
Voices rang about in her mind as she curled once again. Letting ridged breaths out through her nose, she no longer smelt the salt that had clogged her nose when she was on that ship. Instead a smell of pine and mud filled her senses. Staying laying down, Donna waited until she felt like she could move and not throw up. Expecting when she opened her eye to be faced with the cocky smirk of the pirate, she was surprised to find Angie- without a pirate hat- looking down at her. "Looks like we are back home." She said, letting herself glide up into the air.
Donna closed her eye and re-opened it. Indeed this was her home. The smell of the mud was familiar to know. Pushing herself up, light headed still evidence within her mind, she watched as Angie looked behind her. "Ya know, that was quiet the adventure. I think we should do it again tomorrow!" Angie exclaimed as she pointed at something. Following her finger, Donna looked behind herself to realise the tree that had gotten themselves into that mess was still there.
"I think I'll skip." Donna said, letting herself lay in the mud. Angie hovered right over Donna, looking down at her with a smirk.
"Too afraid to face Captain Silver-ring?" She teased, wagging her finger at Donna making fake kissing noises. Donna scrunched up mud in her hand and threw it at Angie who laughed in returned. With slightly rosy cheeks, Donna protested against the idea of seeing the Captain again. "Okay okay...maybe I'll show Lady Dimitrescu the tree! ooo I bet (Y/n) would love her. A lady who loves danger, how perfect their match would be."
For unknown reasons to herself, Donna couldn't help but scoff at the name of Dimitrescu. "You know what, I will go back tomorrow. Not like we have much to do anyway," Donna dragged out, her scowl still on her face. She wouldn't let Dimitrescu see her, oh no. She wouldn't allow it.
She found Captain Silver-Ring first, she shall be the one to see her again. "Is this you saying you love her~"
"Angie love is a strong word, one I'm sure Pirates don't use. I'm only going to gather more information- who knows maybe mother would like this tree." Donna bit her lip after her sentence. "Or- we just keep this tree to ourselves and leave it like that?" She questioned mostly herself but either way, Angie replied with a grin.
"Maybe we could help her find a lover and we could ask for information in return to give to Mother Miranda!"
"Yeah....lets do..that." As Angie floated away back to the Manor clearly excited for the next day, Donna stayed laid in the mud questioning herself. A sudden flash back of the Captain's grin came into her mind making her hit her cheeks. "No no Donna, you are a Lady. She is a Pirate. A really...really- awkwardly nice pirate." Closing her eye, Donna laid there silently enjoying the look of the Pirate in her mind on repeat. How weird- she was enjoying remembering the new Captain. A new world.
Her now favourite adventure.

Little Secrets - pt. 3
A/N: I had been writing this for days but I really love the idea of where this is going. Lol. Also, I would like to thank @barkermarkersharker for the lovely idea that I just had to use. Also, this will be more than a three part I guess.
XX
Your father has been dragging James on all sorts of social gatherings all week. He has been excited but also exhausted. He had come home only to eat and sleep, except on Wednesday. That day he went hiking with Sirius before collapsing into his bed.
A rough week for James Potter but it was Saturday and he will soon be home. Sirius and you had been getting along well. You haven't been holding any sort of grudge towards James but you had your moments where you mentioned some sort of remark of the whole keeping you a secret thing.
Now that he is free this week, he can finally help you and Sirius bond.
He came home with a smile on his face, excited that his week of torture was over. He dropped his bag on the hall and ran up stairs. He barged into his room to find Sirius but he was nowhere in sight. He than ran into your room and you weren't there either.
His brows furrowed, his lips turned down and he ran back to the kitchen. "Hey mum." he said as he gave her a kiss on the cheek and grabbed a fry from the bowl. "Where are Sirius and (y/n)?" he asked, sitting down on the chair and looking at the porch, thinking he will maybe see them there.
"Well, they're at the beach, honey." his mum said, furrowing an eyebrow at him. "I thought they told you?"
"No." he replied, a bit disappointed at the answer.
"Well, it was all last minute. (Y/n) woke up earlier than usual and at breakfast both with Sirius decided to go to the beach with some of her friends." she smiled, thinking to that morning. "You and your father were already gone but you two should have seen them together. We were all laughing so hard this morning. They even invited me to come but I said no because what would me be doing there at the beach with all them youngsters." she continued to smile brightly. "They were both so persistent that I really thought they wanted me to come- do you think there could actually happen something between them?" she asked out of curiosity, looking at James.
James however, choked on his fry and started to cough. "What?"
"Sirius and (Y/N). They seem to get along so great. Like they're meant for each other and I wouldn't mind Sirius becoming my son in law. And imagine what gorgeous babies would they have together."
"Oh! Mom!"James stood up, laughing but feeling horrible inside. "Please, stop. (Y/n) is not a wizard and Sirius is. Even if they do get along, they are both meant to live in two completely different world." he started to get a bit agitated, pouring himself a glass of lemonade.
"We all live in two different world, James. If it wasn't for (y/n), your father and I and you wouldn't know about certain, amazing things about Muggles."
"Yeah but!" he turned around, raising his tone and opening his arms to explain something he couldn't even explain to himself yet. "No. No... they're not..."
"I think there is something between them." your mother smiled, meanwhile James only glared at her. "You don't get along with a person that well and think of it as just friendship."
But you liked girls! - James wanted to scream but knew he couldn't have outed you to his parents. You've always preferred girls over guys, anyway. He only remembers one guy from your whole life that you had had an interest in. All the others were girls.
You can't with Sirius. He's... and you are just not right for each other. Just not!
Your mother could see the injustice James felt in his bones right now. He was frustrated with the idea of you and Sirius together. She tried soothe the tension in the air, turning to James and telling him. "Why don't you go to the beach as well? Meet (y/n)'s friends."
"I already know them mum." he pouted.
"You know of them, James. There's a difference. There's nothing wrong with having Muggle friends."
"I know it's just... what am I supposed to tell them if I can't mention magic at all? Like what do Muggles even talk about?"
"There is more to life than just magic, James." was all what your mother said back.
---
James didn't dress much to the beach, since it was quite windy, as per usual. He wore his usual white jeans with a brown belt, white T-shirt and a jean T-shirt blouse with rolled sleeves. He was walking through the beach to find you and Sirius but the two of you were running around like two wild beasts, laughing so loud he could spot you from a mile away.
You were piggy back riding Sirius and he was running from towards a small group of friends. There were another couple, racing the two of you.
The two of you obviously ran. If Sirius was anything athletic, he was fast. That boy ran from every single Prefect, Head Boy, Head Girl, Professor, wolf-Remus, odd forest monsters and Filch in that school. Of course, the two of you won.
He threw himself, and you, on the blanket, both rolling and laughing as well as cheering.
"HELL YEAH!" you raised your palms in the air as Sirius high-fived them both.
"Why are you panting? I was the one carrying you and running."
"Hey, this was a two people effort. I was your moral support up there." you smiled and all of you laughed before Sirius eyes darted to the approaching figure and his smile suddenly fell, then rised up again.
You turned to look and saw your brother approaching the whole lot of you with a faint smile.
"BROTHER!" you jumped to your feet and ran towards him.
"Don't hug me! Don't hug me!" he started to avoid you by running backwards and putting his hand up. "Stay away from this fit."
"Really?" you glowered at him, then kicked sand at him.
"You rat!" he shouted and started to chase you, grabbing you around the waist and lifting you up.
"PUT ME DOWN! NO! NOOOO!!!" you screamed and laughed at the same time because you knew what he was about to do. "You'll wet your shoes!"
"Not if I throw you." he laughed.
"You don't have the strength."
"But I have magic." he grinned and you gasped.
"You prat! You wouldn't."
"Ready?"
"Please don't. DON'T! JAMES!!" he was getting closer to the water, laughing.
"You'll get to clean the dishes for the whole month and the bathroom when it's my turn."
"A WHOLE MONTH?!" you exclaimed. "Hell no! Throw me into the sea. I don't care." you stopped resisting and he let out a laugh, taking a few steps forward and just dropping you into shallow water.
---
You had returned back, completely wet and cold. You grabbed the extra blanket from the ground and plopped yourself down, glaring at him.
"I will murder you when we come home and I will bury you next to Minki."
"Then you'll really have to clean the dishes and bathroom every month."
"I don't care." you turned your head dramatically, before laughing with him.
"Here." said James and gave you his red sweater.
"Thanks." you said ,grabbing it, taking your wet shirt off and putting it back on, later taking off your soaked bra under it. "Thank God, it's summer." you praised under your breath, leaning back on your arm and looking around, seeing both of your friends making googly eyes at your brother.
"So how was the meeting Jamie?"
"Dull." James mimicked your position. "Sooner than later, you realise that all the gatherings and the meetings and the parties have the same system. Talk about old friends and family first, turn to business and end with something like; we'll keep in touch."
"You had your fun then." Sirius smiled but looked at you when he did.
"Any lassies you caught your eye on?" you asked, looking at your friends from the corner of your eye.
"If you didn't come with dad on these gatherings, what makes you think other lassies did?"
"A question, brother. No need to get fussy about it." you said as you wanted to change the subject but Sirius caught you to it.
"OH MERLIN! A PIG!" he shouted and got on his feet. "It's a pig!" he started to jump excitedly.
"Sirius don't you even think about it..." you said but he was already running towards it, scooping the baby pig into his arms and starting to pet it. An old man approached him and the next thing you knew, Sirius was giving the man money, over-excited for the little pink being in his arms.
He ran back to the group and lifted the animal in his arms. "I got a pig!" he said like a little boy who had got himself his first toy.
"Oh my, God."
---
"I like the name Arnold." you said as you continued to pet the little pig next to Sirius, cooing at him.
"For the thousandth time. HER name is Treasure."
"I'll call you Arnold." you said at the pig as it smiled at you and bumped her nose at your fingers.
"Treasure!" he pulled the pig closer and kissed her forehead. "Don't you listen to her, Treasure. She wasn't the one who took you in, she doesn't get to name you." he glowered at you and you stuck your tongue out at him.
Meanwhile James was walking behind the two of you this whole time. Your mother was right. The two of you did get along great, even better than usual and he felt excluded from his two best friends.
And the worst part was that the two of you didn't even notice it. The two of you didn't notice how miserable he was- that was such a selfish thought. He should be happy that the two of you were getting along.
He was arguing with his mind.
"So, Jamie!" you ran back to him and wrapped your arm around his. "You are the tie-breaker. Arnold or Treasure?"
James let out a laugh. "How about Mum-will-kill-you-two?"
"Don't be buzz kill, Prongs. It's Treasure because I had found her and she is the biggest treasure in my life."
"He's turning into mum." James whispered to you but loud enough for Sirius to hear him and narrow his eyes at the two of you.
"Oh, darn. Dad's got two of them now." you started to joke.
"Hope Euphemia won't get jealous." James continued as the two of you snickered.
"Dad's gonna go bankrupt. Has to buy another ring. Should we call you mother now, Sirius?" you raised an eyebrow at him.
He put the pig down and pointed at the you and James. "Treasure. Attack!"
But Treasure just sat on her bum and gave Sirius googly eyes.
"Awww!" he scooped her back up and waddled her. "We should go shopping tomorrow." he smiled at the two of you. "I want Treasure to keep up with fashion."
"Buying her a leather jacket and a curly, black hair wig?"
"Don't you listen to her. You've got pretty pink hair." he kissed her forehead and went into the house.
"You have some weird friends, Jamie." you shook your head.
"They're not weird. It's just him... that's a bit extra..."
"I can still hear the two of you! I am NOT extra!"
---
James has become more fond od Treasure through the evening. He was sitting on his bay window, looking through at the distance where the field stretched into the distance. Treasure was lightly snoring in his lap as his hand was caressing her tiny head into sweeter dreams.
Treasure started to breathe a bit harder during her sleep, so James lightly opened the window and let the summer breeze wash over her. It was almost as that little pig's mouth curved into a thankful smile. Despite the fact how much everybody disagreed on the pig becoming part of the family, James was really thankful for this lovely little being in his lap. He always had a feeling about animals. Even Minki, his mother's old cat, seemed to crawl onto his chest when he was laying and purr over his heart. Mother said it was a miracle because Minki never liked anybody, not even your father or you but through the years, she got a bit softer for everybody.
"Tell me what's on your mind and I'll tell you what's on mine?" James heard Sirius say from the outside.
His attention wavered from the pig to the voices bellow him. He completely forgot his room is right above the porch but he didn't intend to listen.
He heard you laugh and then stop to pause. He knew that pause. "You know today was the first day I saw James jealous of me." you let out a laugh and James furrowed his eyebrows at your statement.
"I wasn't jealous." he whispered to himself. "Was I jealous?" he asked the sleeping pig on his lap, than thought back to today and concluded. "I was maybe a wee jealous."
"How do you know he was jealous?" Sirius asked and you smiled with a roll of your eyes.
"It doesn't take a mind reader to see this." you snorted, than pulled yourself on the fence as you usually did. "Plus whenever he's having angry thoughts the space between his eyebrows furrow and he looks extremely tense. I keep telling him that that is his tell but he never listens."
You were right. You do always tell him about his little tells but he just does them subconsciously.
"I remember before I turned eleven, James would constantly make me jealous by telling me about magic. How he started showing his magic abilities when he was seven and I was ten but didn't even show a tad of it." you started and your voice started to quiver a bit. It was when you started to show your rawest side. You didn't much open up to anybody but when you did, you really went into the most deepest parts of yourself. "When we found out I was a Squib, James stopped with the whole teasing but it was too late, you know? He had already told me about Hogwarts and given me such expectations to be sorted into the same house as him or a Hufflepuff. He loved Hufflepuffs... and I remember crying when Dumbledore told me and my parents that I can attend Hogwarts for magical knowledge but will never be able to preform it. I can never forget the disappointment in my father's eyes. He was so shocked that I was a Squib, it was his reaction that made me cry so hard that day." you continued, speaking in a calm, controlled voice. "I didn't want to stand out in Hogwarts so I said I don't want to. James told me I could still go to Muggle schools and become more magical and successful even if I'm not a wizard and that gave me hope." you smiled and James mathed your smiled from another room, still listening. "Though it always bugged me- the whole Squib thing. We came from such a powerful wizarding family and I was the one who got born without it."
"It happens even to the best of families, (y/n)." Sirius tried to reason but you only smiled. "It happened to my family as well... but... she married a Muggle so... it sort of made sense..."
"Exactly. Both of my parents come from powerful families, that's why it didn't make sense to me and I couldn't understand why nobody did any more research. They all just accepted it."
"But you didn't?"
"No. I didn't." you replied determined. "It didn't make sense to me. It was like a whole family line with black eyes and black hair and black skin existed and all of a sudden a ginger with blue eyes and fair light skin was born to that family. And I know it happens in family but not in this family, you know?" you tried to explain. "And I know James and I are different from each other, thank God. It makes sense because my father's side of the family are all alike, which is from whom James takes it from but my mother's side is diverse, that's why our physical features are so different. Genes. Those genes make sense but magical genes? Wizards marrying wizards in my family and it just didn't make sense to me. I couldn't let it go."
"The stubborn gene." Sirius tried to joke and James snorted at his comment.
"I was always jealous of James. I just never showed it but then I was in London with my friends- it was a school trip- and there was this psychic."
"Oh no."
"I know what you're thinking but let me explain!"
"Muggle Psychics are such a skam."
"Let me explain you broom flying shit."
"Alright. No need to get mean." Sirius backed off, meanwhile James was holding his laughter in the other room.
"Psychics feed off an energy and vibrations. Yes, some are skammers but there was something different with this woman. When we locked eyes through the window, I got this odd shiver down my spine and something about her eyes... it felt so real...
'++ You were standing in front of store and it felt like it was only you and the store in this world. Your friends were nowhere by but that was the last thing on your mind. You had been there and the store and the mere nothingness of the world.
You opened the door, they jingled and spread an odd athmosphere on your body. You didn't know whether you felt anxious or free. Perhaps the feeling of freedom gave you a bit of anxiety as well.
"Come in, child." you heard a voice from another room and before you even took a step, she was already in sight.
She was leaning on the wall, dipping her tea bag into the boiling water. She wasn't like those psychics the television represents. She wore a long dress that was tight around her waist. She was in a nice form and you couldn't figure out whether she was 30 or 40.
"I'm 52." she answered your question before giving you a pleasant smile with beautiful teeth and making her way into another room. "I know, I don't look like it much but that's the power of magic." she continued to say, poking her head out of the room and grinning. "But you would know everything about that, wouldn't you?"
You felt something swallow you but you gathered your thoughts quickly. "Unicorns, fairies... all of them live in my backyard, yes." you said as you also made your way to the room, letting your hand brush the colourful crystals hanging on a silver chains.
"They're all around you, you know?" she smiled and you furrowed your eyebrow at you. "Fairies I mean but they only appear if they want to, that's why you've never seen them. They don't want to appear."
"Alright?" you sounded doubtful.
"Come on, sit."
And you sat.
She sat across from you and opened her hands on the table. "Go on. Give me your hands. You didn't walk in here just to stare at me."
And as soon as you gave her your hands, you felt this magnetic pull towards this woman. It was something you gave her and it was something she gave you back.
Her eyes were closed but the way her lips pursed together and eyebrows furrowed, you knew she was a bit confused. "Oh dear..." she mumbled under her breath but regained her posture and mind. "What we're doing right now are exchanging energies darling. The Universe is responding to it, giving me a download. Whether you believe in the Universe, the energies, vibrations or the Law of Attraction, it does exist. You cannot fight it. It simply exists." she continued to explain and you listened. "Your inner child is in need of healing- I see you still haven't moved on from something that had caused a massive change in your childhood..." she opened her eyes a bit. "Magic?"
"I... I don't have magic."
"Oh, honey. You don't need to move a feather to have magic." she gave you a loving, caring smile. "We all hold magic inside of us. You just have to believe in it."
And it was in the way she spoke that she gave you a large amount of hope. All the anxiety was gone- as if it never existed. You just wanted to stay in there forever.
"I also see you've been troubling yourself with a question for a long time and I'm here to give you an answer..." ++'
"What did she say?!" Sirius exclaimed in anticipation. He was really invested in this whole story, meanwhile you had to take a moment to breathe.
"Well... in the beginning when she said "Oh, dear..." she was referring to the black magic I carried inside all these years." you tried to smile but it squeezed your heart. "I don't have it anymore. I washed it off a year ago but what really made me upset was that if I washed it before I turned eleven, I could be a witch myself." you looked up, trying to show him that you weren't affected by talking about this, though clearly you were.
"What do you mean?"
"When my nana was alive, on my mother's side, she always forbid people to come when mother was pregnant with James and when James was just a baby. When they did come, she would sage the house and search it from head to toe because people could have left omens or something that would do something to a child. Despite the fact that she was a wizard, she was extremely superstitious. At least, that's what mum told me. It annoyed her a bit." you paused. "She died not long after James was born and before I was conceived and Nora, the psychic told me that nana has been protecting both of us from the other world but she couldn't protect me in this world like she had done with James."
"Meaning what? Somebody did black magic on you?" Sirius furrowed his eyebrows meanwhile James was listening up there, just as confused.
"Nora talks to the spirits, and she talked to nana. Nana said that my father's auntie was the one, attempting to put black magic on James but was unsuccessful. Then tried again with me... bringing a whole tea set as a present and Nora said that teas have an enormous power, whether we know it or not. It can heal you but it can also sicken you- herbs an all."
"Yeah, I know. I've been taking Herbology with agony but still listened to it."
"The tea set was cursed and whenever my mother drank from it I would consume the black magic that came with it. It created a blockage for my magic and when I turned eleven, it finally did its job by never letting me use magic at all." you smiled but a tear rolled down your face. "She told me I could still have magic, you know? If I removed the black magic, I'd remove the blockage but there was a catch."
"What?"
"I'd become an Obscurial." you looked at him and his eyes dawned with a loss of hope. "I know, I was disappointed as well. I didn't want ot be an Obscurial and I had already created the Muggle life, accepted it and loved it- so I gave up on magic. I didn't want that kind of magic. I wasn't desperate like I was when I was a kid but still it hurt.- She told me how to get rid of the black magic completely and I had followed every step. I felt lighter afterwards, like something has been lifted off my shoulders. I didn't know I was carrying something so heavy all my life but I felt fantastic after it."
"Did you tell your parents or James?"
"No." you shook your head. "I didn't want to burden them with this knowledge and they already accepted the whole Squib part of me and I got closure as well... knowing that I wasn't picked out of the family. I was just a wee unfortunate." you smiled, looking up at the stars. "Nana said through Nora that she'll always protect us- all of us and she told me that I should try to find my own magic in the world, how special I was and all of those things. Some days, I really do feel like she's with me. Sometimes when we eat together or the days I sit here and look up at the stars." you laughed. "It sounds a bit crazy but-"
"No...it doesn't." Sirius said as he took your hand in his, smiling at this magnificent woman in front of you.
James already closed the window. He couldn't believe what he just heard. He knew your father's auntie was a bit odd but to do black magic on her own family is just fucked up.
He needed to know something. He needed to go to the attic.
Meanwhile you and Sirius were still on the porch. Still so wonderfully living among the stars. You jumped down from the fence and leaned back. Whenever he would touch you, you felt a rush of emotions go through you- those anxious butterflies banding together in your stomach and trying to burst free. Your cheeks would heat up... and whenever Sirius was close, this close, you would even get afraid of what he might do next.
Flirting was one thing for you; fun and easy but when it came to real feelings, that was when you were a complete mess.
Sirius was standing close to you but he didn't touch you. "All that talk about energies..." he started, breathing a bit heavily as he was getting closer to you. "Does that mean we exchange it too?"
"Yeah." you replied with shallow breathing.
"And when I touch you like this..." he said, taking a hold of your hand and lifting it up a bit, interlocking his fingers with you, then looking deep into your eyes. "Do you feel it?"
"I feel it..." you replied, staring into his lips, marvelling at their beauty as your whole body would pulse.
"And now?" he asked, placing his other hand on your hip and pushing you gently on the wooden pillar.
"Uh..." you swallowed thickly as your heart rate started to beat abnormally. "I feel you..."
He pressed his forehead onto yours and started to close the gap between your lips. "Good..." he growled a little and pressed his lips onto yours. His body, hot, pushing you against the pillar, meanwhile his hand on your hip squeezed you tightly, releasing a pleased whimper from your lips. His strong arms would wrap themselves under your thighs and lift you up until they were wrapped around his waist. His kisses deep and passionate caused your head to swirl. Your fingers dug into his curls and tugged on a little, causing a satisfied smile to appear on his lips.
He would pull away for a moment, gaze into your eyes than to your every feature. He would start to remove your hair from your cheek, just to take a closer look at you. You were amazed by his strength. He was holding your whole body weight with one hand that it only made you feel more attracted to the man.
Than before you knew it, something fell on the floor in the living room, making the both of you jump and look who had just caught you.
"Oh, bloody hell!!" Sirius gasped. "Treasure, what the hell?" he looked at the pig as the pig happily jumped towards him.
"I think she's a bit jealous." you giggled, meanwhile Sirius scooped the little being into his arms.
"Does this look jealous to you?" he turned her towards you and the pig was simply enjoying the little belly rub, smiling at you as well and trying to sniff you.
"I still can't believe my parents didn't allow me to have a fish but allowed you to bring a whole pig home."
"I think you're the one jealous." he raised an eyebrow meanwhile you rolled your eyes.
"I could never be... especially of this gorgeous little piggy." you rubbed her belly as well as she let a few pleased squeeks.
"I thought Prongs was babysitting you?" he tol her. "We shall find him, shan't we?"
---
However, James was sitting in the dark attic, surfing through old boxes of his grandparents things. Especially his nana's, which he regretted a bit when he pulled out old lingerie.
"Oh, ew..." he quickly threw it away. "I did not need to know that." he surfed through the old box, finally finding what he has been looking for...

One Undead To Another (Chapter 5)
(Trigger warning for more vampire vs ghost fighting, general brain fog, Shawn convinced he's hallucinating/has brain damage, Shawn turning into a vampire and all the anguish that entails.)
“I need you, Shawn! You can’t leave me alone! Wake UP!”
It’s the first anything Shawn is aware of. Before he can feel his own body, hear anything around him, before he can see.
He hears Gus, begging and distraught, and it pulls Shawn back to the world.
It takes a couple of tries, but he opens his eyes. His vision is blurry, and he must have brain damage, because even as it clears up he sees not only Gus bent over him sobbing, but his grandma.
Who died when he was three.
“Oh my god, Shawn!” Gus doesn’t even bother to wipe his face, just pulls Shawn up into a hug- but pushes Shawn away just as fast. “Don’t even think about drinking my blood while I’m rescuing you right now.”
“Wh… wha?” Shawn’s voice cracks and scrapes against his throat. He’s parched. Dry like a desert, or his own dating life for all of highschool. “Wha’ th’ hell…”
“It’s okay, I’ve got you. And I’m pretty sure Lassie and Jules are wiping the floor with the vampires.”
“... Wha?” Shawn tries to sit up, to figure out where he is and what is going on and why everything is numb but all he manages to do is turn his head a little. That’s not a good sign. Something bad happened to him.
His vision swims just from that simple movement, and when it refocuses he’s not sure it actually does. Lassie is driving a shard of wood into the chest of some nondescript person (Popsicle, he thinks, though he can’t make the connection why) as Jules fights like a woman possessed against… someone Shawn would put money on as being a lawyer, or some other equally extremely desk-bound job.
When he looks at her, some of the numbness goes away- because he’s suddenly very aware of his neck exploding with pain. He wants to scream, to thrash, to fall back into that Nothingness where pain didn’t exist and neither did he- but all he manages is a weak moan.
“Just hang on a little longer.” Gus loops his arms under Shawn’s armpits and, with great grunts and puffs of effort, stands just enough to begin dragging Shawn away somewhere.
And then a hand grabs onto Shawn’s leg. It should feel cold, Shawn’s mind supplies for reasons he can’t pinpoint. The hand doesn’t feel any colder than he does, though. … But now that he thinks about it, he is cold. Very cold. But he’s not shivering. Tick that next to the possible head trauma in the list of Very Bad Things To Wake Up To.
“I’m not dying without killing you and your stupid mouth,” a gruff voice growls (Gramv- he nicknamed these people at some point. This is an investigation, then?). Gramv yanks on Shawn’s leg, easily pulling him out of Gus’s grasp.
Bad guy. Right, he’s in danger, this man is trying to kill him, he’s barely able to move, Lassie and Jules are busy and Gus just almost got his arms dislocated and the rest of the people in the room can’t possibly be real because they’re dead. His vision is still not a hundred percent, but he zeros in on a candle by Gramv’s hand and his own leg.
He barely manages to twitch his leg, but it’s enough. The candle tips over and the burning wick catches the sleeve of Gramv’s robe, and apparently it’s a very flammable material because he lights up quicker than a clue at a crime scene.
“Heh.” Shawn wishes he could make a pun, but even if he could speak at the moment, he still can’t really think. It’s a sludgy, foggy, all-around unclear mess in his skull. He’s not used to it, and if he had a clearer head he’s be panicking over not having a clear head. There’s a word for that. He can’t remember it right now.
Gus grabs him again and drags him somewhere deep within the maze (oh, he recognizes this maze, that could be good or bad, but is probably both). Shawn watches Lassie and Jules fade into the stacks of useless forgotten whatever, and begins to nod off again. Then Gus props him up against one of the stacks and lightly taps Shawn’s face to wake him back up.
“I need you to try and stand. I can’t carry a grown-ass man up the world’s most unsafe stairs all by myself.”
“St’nd.” Still can’t get out full words without slurring them- he definitely has brain damage. What happened to him? “Yea.” Shawn tries to push himself up, but his arms collapse under him within seconds. He starts to tip to the side, and Gus has to reach out and steady him. “I don’... f-feel…”
“Okay. Okay, we can do this. I can do this. How many times have you gone boneles son me? It was all leading up to this.” Gus bounces on his heels while he hypes himself up. “Burton Guster, you are about to carry your best friend up these stairs.”
Gus slings one of Shawn’s arms over his shoulder, and manages to stand and support Shawn’s entire weight without any help from Shawn himself. He feels like a bundle of wet noodles, but knitted together to be really dense and heavy, and way too overcooked, just absolutely inedible.
… He’s hungry.
“G’s…”
“Just a little longer. Oh gosh… okay, we can do this.”
Someone else is supporting Shawn’s weight too.
“I’ve got him, Gus. I’ve got you, sweetie. Let’s get going.”
His grandma who isn’t real because she’s dead and Gus have to basically drag him up the stairs. Feeling starts to return to his legs as they go up, little by little, with each smack of his shins and ankles against the wooden slats pretending to be steps.
Feeling is returning everywhere. He almost wishes it wasn’t.
He is in serious pain.
His neck is the worst of it- it feels raw, dug at, deep and tender and he can’t even begin to imagine what a wound that feels like this must look like. He’s a little surprised Gus hasn’t passed out or thrown up at the sight, because it must be gruesome.
Almost as bad is his stomach. No, wait, it might be worse- his evaluation is shifting as awareness slowly trickles in. … Yes, his stomach is worse, though not by much. It burns. His stomach, his guts in general, they burn. They twist and ache and stab and he can picture them shredding each other apart inside of him, little claws and teeth on his spleen or whatever else is down there, he doesn’t know, he just knows it hurts.
“Gus,” he gasps out. Okay, full word, not slurred, maybe his head will be okay after all. “I-I don’t feel-” He grits his teeth. Good? No, it’s deeper than that. He doesn’t feel… “Right.”
“I know.” Is it that visible? It must be. His neck probably looks like Spam what a feral cat got into, if the way it feels is any reliable indicator. Gus gives Shawn’s arm a squeeze. They’re slowly moving down a hallway now- his grandma disappeared sometime between the top of the stairs and this halfway hallway point. That’s another good sign for the brain damage clearing up, or at least he hopes it is. “It’s just a little farther to the car.”
Something in him twists. It ties itself up in a knot, and then instead of unrevelling itself it cuts, splits apart and the pain is like a shockwave, ripping through his entire body starting in his guts moving out and settling most in his head and his mouth and god he’s parched and hungry and it’s all he can think about as he stumbles and falls out of Gus’s hold and the whole thing leaves his ear ringing and his heartbeat hammering in his…
… Skull…
… That’s not…
His…
Heartbeat…
Gus’s arm is under him again, but everything is a blur. A hazy, quickly-moving blur, because all he can take in is that heartbeat.
It’s racing, pounding, the heartbeat of someone in deep distress, and Shawn doesn’t know why but it’s amazing. It’s his favorite sound in the world, thumping against the inside of his skull and mixing with the shockwaves of pain, rippling out from his head into his body and his limbs and it feels good.
He doesn’t realize they’re at Lassie’s car until Gus is shoving him into the backseat and buckling him in. He would laugh, but it comes out a wheeze. Gus leans over into his space to buckle him in, and Shawn can’t sto staring at his neck. Smooth, soft skin, and his vision highlights the pulse…
“Do you taste as buttery as you look?” He feels consciousness starting to slip again- no, not consciousness. Awareness. They’re different, somehow.
“What?” Gus is only half listening, and Shawn needs to look away because staring at Gus’s neck is starting to make the pain worse, especially in his mouth…
He doesn’t have as much control over his head as he’d like, and it lolls, and Gus makes a choked gagging noise as the part of Shawn’s neck that hurts the most stretches out. There it is. That’s familiar. That’s good. Now he needs… he needs…
Gus is rooting around in Lassie’s glove compartment and that box-armrest-thing between the two front seats. Shawn can see his head, and his neck again, and he thinks his mouth would be watering if there was any water in his body. No, that’s not right, if he was that dry he’d be dead. Is he dead? If so then Gus is dead, that’s no good. Gus has a lot of life to live, and a way more productive one then Shawn’s will ever be, Shawn’s sure of it.
“I better not be dead so you’re not dead,” he mumbles as Gus comes back to the back door with a packet of wet wipes. “You don’t deserve to be dead.”
“What? Shawn, you’re talking nonsense.” Gus takes a deep breath, gags one more time, then swallows it and tilts Shawn’s head to he can clean Shawn’s neck. Clean it? Right, the wound. Probably blood.
Blood. He groans as his insides go to war, burning and twisting and tearing and dying and- and- and something else-
“Gus.” He paws at Gus’s shirt, pathetic and weak. “Gus, I’m hungry.”
Gus’s eyes widen, and Shawn sees panic- why? Gus swallows and keeps cleaning, but he’s shaking twice as bad now. “I already told you you better not. I will slap you, Shawn. Don’t think I won’t.”
Shawn laughs a little, and this time it actually comes out a laugh.
It hurts.
Gus’s pulse is highlighted again. The racing heartbeat is back in the forefront of Shawn’s mind. His mouth burns.
There’s a hand on his. Not Gus’s. It’s there and it’s not, and he’s felt it a lot of times since he woke up, and he’s still pretty sure it’s a symptom. But Gus is done cleaning, so Shawn turns his head to se ehis grandma, holding his hand.
“Focus on me, Shawn. Focus on me. You’re going to get through this without any of your friends getting hurt, okay?”
“Okay.” But what is this? He still isn’t sure. He still can’t remember. All he knows is he woke up and there was fighting and crying and pain and if his grandma is here he’s probably dead and so Gus is dead, he is, but that’s not fair because Gus shouldn’t ever be dead, Gus should never die and live forever-
“Stop that.” Her voice is sharp and firm- it sounds almost like his dad. It jolts him into a bit more awareness than he’s had since the hallway. “Don’t go down that thoughtpath. No more new vampires tonight.”
That… doesn’t… track. … But neither does his grandma being here. “What do you mean…”
She sighs, and then looks up and nods. “Look, your other friends are here.”
He turns his head to look past Gus, still kneeling by him and looking him over like Shawn might disappear at any moment. He’s not going anywhere though- he can’t even if he wanted to. Lassie and Jules, though, they can move. They run out of the front door of the creepiest, most horror-movie-worthy mansion in all of Santa Barbara covered in blood and dirt and ash, pouring sweat and the blood smells bad. Rotten. It makes Shawn angry, for some reason, until two more rhythms join the one already pounding in his ears. Their heartbeats. He wishes he was more sound of mind so he can pick apart the differences, appreciate the unique beats for his unique friends. They’re entrancing.
Gus slams Shawn’s door shut and runs around to the other side, sliding into the seat next to him. Jules and Lassie jump into their seats, and almost as soon as Lassie’s butt hits the pleather they’re peeling away at high speeds.
Shawn leans his head back, closing his eyes and listening to the three racing beats around him. His grandma’s hand is still over his. He can barely feel it.
“Is he awake?” Jules’s voice cuts through the beats, scratchy and ragged but beautiful, sweet and alluring, but if she wants to she can be overpowering and all-emcompassing and-and she’s like honey and he’s a fly and he’s so hungry.
“Kind of.” Gus’s voice is smooth, buttery as his well-cared-for-skin, rich, Gus is comfort and home and fun like a cup of hot coco and he’s so parched.
“What do you mean ‘kind of’?” Lassie’s voice is smooth too, but in a different way- more like a smooth cup of coffee, or smooth whiskey, something that should be bitter and harsh but when you appreciate it it isn’t, because Lassie is strong and steady and an assault on the senses in the best way and Shawn needs to have a taste of all of them.
“I’m starving.” His voice sounds strange- maybe he’s just not used to hearing himself so openly desperate. He’s used to feeling it, deep inside, but hearing it… based on the silence in the car, no-one else expected to hear it either.
“... How’s his neck, Guster?”
“I cleaned it up, but- oh, my god, I can’t look at it-”
“Do not throw up in this vehicle!”
“Carlton, that’s not the priority right now!”
Shawn laughs. He loves them. He loves them all so much. He wants to listen to them bicker forever. He wants to listen to their voices saying anything forever. He wants them, forever.
“Didn’t your grandmother tell you to stop that kinda thinking?” Rough, raspy, but not the way Gramv’s was- Shawn knows this voice better than any of the other hallucinations.
“Grandpa.”
“That’s right, we’re both here.” His grandpa is holding his other hand- that doesn’t make sense. The car isn’t shaped like that. He cracks his eyes open and sees his grandpa is halfway inside of the front passenger seat, sitting and leaning forward and holding his hand. Now he knows he’s hallucinating.
“He still thinks this isn’t real?”
“Be patient, dear. He’s processing a lot right now. It might not sink in for a while.”
“Right. Shawn, look out the window for me, would’ya?”
If his grandpa is a hallucination, it might be his brain trying to communicate something to itself. Shawn slowly turns his head, thunking it against the window to stare out into the nighttime sights of Santa Barbara. The glass should feel cool against his skin. It almost feels warm.
Gus had been really, really warm, now that Shawn thinks about it. Gus might have a fever. That sucks.
“Remember when you were a kid, and we’d sit on the bench and make up stories about people walking by?”
“Course. My one reprieve from dad.” His voice is still sluggish and quiet, but it’s coming back well.
“Let’s do that now, yeah? Tell me about uh… that guy there. What’s his story, you think?”
“I… I can’t… think right now, Grandpa. I’m hu-”
“I know, I know. We can eat after the game, how about it?”
“You can’t. You’re not real.”
“I’m dead, not imaginary. Indulge an old man, would you? How about… this girl. What’s her story?”
“... I… guess… she could be from anywhere, right? So… so she’s from Spain. She’s a… professional bull wrangler, for when they do the runs.”
“Good, good, I like that! And how about uh…”
“What about that fellow, with the giant hat?”
“Yeah, what about him?”
“He got that as a prize, for… for wrestling something big, like a… polar bear, or a whale.”
Everything begins to fade away as Shawn focuses on playing the game. He mumbles out stories, his grandparents encourage him, the heartbeats and the pain are still there but they blend into the background as his mind whirs and latches onto the task of making up stories. It becomes like a trance, a dream, and Shawn slips into it gratefully.
He’s blissfully unaware as the rest of the car have some difficult conversations.
