#💟#Digital art#Full Art#Art#Edgar#Scriabin#Guess what day it is ♥ That's riiiight! It's my own personal Vargasversary here again! :D#I really got it in under the wire with this one lol but I did it! I did do it! 13 whole digital start-to-finish panels.....woaw......#Definitely the biggest of these anniversary projects thus far hehe <3 But I really wanted to see if I could do it and I did it! I'm happy :D#Inspired by many on this one ahh - the obvious being they ♥ As ever I still hold them so dearly love them so much <3#The second inspiration source is probably also obvious lol but I've been using a newer-to-me technique to sketch to try and speed up drawing#Specifically inspired from watching Zarla's Handplates speeddraw videos! I'm still a little shaky with it haha#I fell back into my old habits more than once :P But now I understand what over-rendering a sketch means lol - knowledge!#And all-told I think this is probably the longest digital comic I've made in uhhhhhh - at least years#I don't wanna say ever because it still is only 13 panels and two of those share a frame haha but like! That's still a lot for me these days#So I'm pleased for being able to make it in short order! It was fun! I had a good time with it! :D And I think it turned out nice!!#And then the last inspiration source this time around was smol hehe ♪ Despite us both being grown I still tuck her in#It's just something neither of us grew out of haha - it's nice! Another point in us being very Sans and Papyrus lol#But I wanted to give it to the Vargases this time because - eee - smol's turning the age I was when I first read Vargas this year#Obviously my family knows about Vargas as I Will Not Shut Up About It lol but I'm still the only one to have read it#Partially because of how intense and scary it can be! As much as I love it I recognize it's not for everyone - as much as I wish it was haha#But smol and I have pretty similar tastes when it comes to media - so I'm finally inviting her to read it with me ♪ Ahh ♫#Getting to share one of my very favourite stories with one of my very favourite people is exciting just to think about!!#And also getting to reread Vargas again hhhhhh I'm feeling Fine and Normal about approaching it again hahahh#Definitely haven't been thinking about and wanting to reread it A Lot Constantly lol#So drawing them again was nice <3 And the new* medium made certain details stand out all the more!#The process of discovery of art as it appears on the screen haha - Scriabin's hand reaching for Edgar only to clench upon his rejection ahh#That last one is also something of a stealth redraw of Scriabin listening to Edgar's heart in mainfic that I made - somehow four years ago??#Nearly five now....more than half of the way back from my having read it the first time ah how'd it get to be so long now...#Every year - every month - every week - every day - every hour - it is Vargas Loving Hours ♥

“Probably ought to bring you up to speed on something right now. In order to escape, we're going to have to go through HER chamber."
Redraw of an original from September of 2017– someone liked it and made me think about it for the first time in a while. My Portal dragon au was a fun time. I miss just being mindlessly self-indulgent like that, haha.
This is a bit of a weird redraw. Usually when I do redraws, I try to match the style more, so the technical improvement is clearer. But with this one, I was thinking more about, like… if I had the skill then that I do now, what would I have made?
Growing up, I was really envious of looser styles that could rely more on color and light than lines. Lineart and cell shading is still my bread and butter, clearly, and I’ve always enjoyed it. But when I was younger, it sometimes felt like a cage. The old drawing, with its blurry but strong colored lighting, is an obvious attempt to get away from that.
So, I paid less attention to the specifics of the original composition and tried more to capture atmosphere. I love the lighting and aesthetic of Portal 2, it’s still incredibly influential on me, so I wanted to see how much closer I could get now. I’m not all the way there— especially sketching this at 2am with no references— and there’s a lot of things I still want to improve. But I’d like to think past me would have been really, really excited about what I can do now.

hii im suuper late to my own week ik (i'll post the rest of the days from time to time, college applications were a pain </3 but i've got most of it down
This piece is a redraw of my very first post ! This has been a wip since the start of the year so my art style unsurprisingly changed a bunch as i tweaked the lines and colors. it's not the best but it's looking as good as it can be!
as for the zine, people are free to draw up pieces for the week up until the end of september and we can compile it all together! it's not really the usual zine format but who knows.. we can maybe try to figure out a way to formally start a more structured zine project for these two
Anyway! I've decided to dedicate my greenflower week posts to my headcanons I've made up for them from the past 4 years.. I figured you guys could take a peek into my brain since I haven't really been good at that unless you catch me in a vc :") there's a buncha hcs and old ass art i never posted finally unearthing under the cut if you wanna take a peek
So, first thing: Body headcanons..
i took super long getting what i want with this waay back when I started posting cause I was still figuring out a lot with my art. i couldn't get in good details/features that would properly differentiate them or make them fun to draw. I wasn't striving to be really innovative with the designs or anything, I just wanted them to feel like characters I like looking at and thinking about
finally, i'm somewhat able to settle on these as of right now! It will most likely update as the time passes and my art changes, but this is what I got!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
basically the main idea is that i wanted Lloyd to be bulkier but sharper. grew up fast and has all these edges, but then you get to know him and he's just a big ol dork. Mostly wears loose-fitting clothes that hides his figure, but he's quite built underneath
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Brad's a lil taller and pretty lanky. my art style may not be able to show that properly but lloyd can snap him in half <3 he also seems hella chill but that's probably cause he got balls of steel after living through a million ninjago invasions
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This thing below is an old outfit concept I have for a project that I've been working on. does not reflect my current headcanons with his physical appearance but i do like his clothes
I think he loves his role as the green ninja, saving the world and such. it came with lots of baggage and reflection but i do promise that he enjoys it for the most part. I think him wearing green is kind of like wearing work clothes so he tends to avoid it on days when he's free to keep from being too ready to jump into ninja mode
Tumblr media
i do tend to keep him in green though cause the fandom sure does love their color-coded ninja
anyway .. that's about most of what i've got for this that looks good enough to post, so here's a bunch of other doodles/sketches, both old and new ToT
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh and a quick comic too cause why not
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
one more: bonus greenflower yuri
Tumblr media
thanks for coming to read this far :) there'll be more soon

In this continuing theme of me now avoiding working on this bigger project, I remembered a year old thing I never finished.
All of the characters were sketched in, so I mostly just had to do the lining and colouring. A lot of them were clear enough for me to just go over quick but I pretty much had to redraw Floyd from scratch- ☆•♡•☆•♡•☆•♡•☆•♡•☆•♡•☆

If people want me to do another sheet I probably can. I do have to get on top of the stuff in my inbox as well though.

hi quip! i really like your one piece comics and i am curious how you do them! i'm not good at comics and want to be better at drawing them! how do you learn how to make comics?
thank you!
uh oh... im afraid u have caught me at the perfect crossroad of "bored at work" and "unrelated task ive been meaning to do but keep putting off."
this is long. i hope you like reading (and grayscale progress pics). and of course!!! disclaimer before we begin that this is just how I, personally draw comics. there is no "right way."
quip's comic-making process!
Switching my typing to make this more legible...
My process can kinda be broken down into 6 steps:
Brainstorming
Thumbnailing
Sketching
Panels & Text
Lines
Tones/Colors
1. Brainstorming
My brain is a leaky sieve on a good day, so I sloppily jot down ideas in my phone notes the moment I have them. This helps me when it's time to draw too, because if I feel art blocked, I can look through old concepts and see what catches my interest.
Otherwise, I love drawing for other people's writing. :) And if worst comes to worst, doing manga/comic page redraws in my style teaches me new things every time.
Once I have my idea, I'll usually make a bulletpoint list of "plot points" or "story beats" I want. Then I plan the comic with this format that I've adapted from a tutorial I read once. I'm going to use my most recent comic (original comic post) as an example.
Tumblr media
I start in the third column, writing notes of what I'd want to see in each panel. I also include the dialogue (in this case, I didn't have to write the dialogue! it's from the fanfic linked in the original comic post!). I usually write the whole name like [Luffy:], but at this point I've drawn so much of these guys, just the first letter works.
I like to handwrite these notes to get an idea for how much text I'm putting in a single panel.
After I describe all the panels, I go back and separate them into pages. I can't tell you how to know how many panels to a page. It's whatever works for you. I just kinda know about how big each panel will be, and so I can feel when I'm probably running out of space. (Also. You can change things later. I don't in this example, but I add/drop pages/panels all the time.)
2. Thumbnailing
Thumbnailing—as the name suggests—should be done tiny. Too tiny to accidentally get sucked into details.
This is about marking down blobs where items/characters go, and figuring out the paneling. I'll draw and redraw these a bunch of times too.
This is also the most time-consuming/brain-working part for me. If I were in a zine that did progress percentage, I'd try to finish thumbnailing around the 50% mark (but I'm also a moderately fast artist, so your mileage may vary).
Tumblr media
I think the terrible quality makes them charming, actually. I really like how silly they look. :')))
I will add, when you draw your "page" rectangle, make sure it's the same proportions as your actual canvas for the final image. You want an accurate idea of how much space each panel will take up, especially if you have a lot of text.
3. Sketching
This is my most recent change to my usual workflow, and it's saving me a lot of time. I make my thumbnails a bit bigger (each one about half the size of the final canvas), and I sketch these basic body forms right over them.
Tumblr media
It just helps give me placement for my actual lines!
I usually draw these in a paleish color so I can lower the opacity and not get distracted by them while lining. The random darker parts are to either help keep two forms separate (like when two characters have their limbs all over) or to better define sections that were too sloppy/poorly proportioned.
I also think this helps my poses stay looser, because I have more dramatic/wriggly shapes that aren't too bogged down by proportions yet.
Sidenote: I CANNOT show this here, but sometimes this is when I take videos. Of myself. I prop my phone camera up and shoot a video of me acting each panel. :/// It looks really dumb, but it also shows me fun body language ideas like hand gestures, expressions, weight distribution, etc. Just pretend you're an overdramatic cartoon character, and try not to worry about your roommates or mother walking in on you doing odd things. (You can also use the video for anatomy reference later, but I usually just capture the vibe and don't try to copy the actual video frame.)
4. Panels & Text
Oh, boy. So, the panels are usually just straight lines (though it's fun to make creative exceptions, like a round panel to mimic looking through a spyglass), but there are some fancy rules that I don't strictly adhere to.
Tumblr media
I believe (I have no technical training in this. Take everything I say with a grain of salt) the vertical gaps (between two side-by-side panels) should all be a consistent width and the horizontal gaps (between two panels on top of each other) should be another. The vertical ones? Should be thinner? Because you want the eye to easily glide between them, whereas the horizontal gaps should be a visual barrier to keep you from jumping ahead. Just something I've vaguely noticed.
There are lots of fun "default layouts" you can look up. Or keep it a consistent grid. I think it's fun to sometimes have characters/objects sticking out of panels and overlapping others. This is just a matter of taste, creativity, and inspiration. (Read Witch Hat Atelier... It has some of my favorite paneling...)
You may also notice I have already done the speech bubbles. This is, to me, a crucial step. This helps me catch early if I don't have enough room for all the words. It also lets me plan the art in each panel with the speech bubbles in mind. There's nothing worse than working really hard on a panel, and then you realize there's no room for the bubbles.
I also try to lay them out in a way that guides the eye! Even without art, can people tell where to go next? Better yet, if I want people to look at panels out of order (aka not left to right, in my case), can I use the speech bubble path to make them? Here's just a vague example of what I mean.
Tumblr media
As an added bonus, doing speech bubbles early also allows me to be lazy! :) Ignore the comic; I'm not supposed to post it yet oops,, There's a whole lot of drawing to do on each comic page, and I am not wasting my time on stuff that will be covered up. So yes, if I hide my bubbles, there are a lot of unfinished lines trailing off into nothing. (As a bonus, if there's a part of a character you're struggling with—and it won't look weird to do so—you can move speech bubbles to just hide the problem area yayyy)
Tumblr media
Making the actual bubbles could be their own whole tutorial, tbh, but there are some general guidelines I use.
Zoom out when you choose your font size. You want to know how it will look to the average reader, so it isn't super teeny tiny or way too big. You generally want to keep the same text size for all your pages/bubbles.
When I draw bubbles, I try to size them about one vertical letter height (and some change) around the words [left side]. This isn't always the case though, because humorously large or funny shaped text bubbles can convey different feelings [right side].
Tumblr media
On Procreate, I set my bubble lines to Reference and just drag-and-drop the white fill on a separate layer below the lines. (Remember to turn Reference back off again when you're done, or your fill bucket won't work right when you're drawing.)
To get the white outlines I use to keep the bubbles from cluttering up the art, I literally just Gaussian blur an all-white copy of the lines + fills... and then I copy and merge it 5 times until it's opaque enough. This is a terrible way to do it, but it works for me. :')
Tumblr media
5. Lines
This is the part that I can't tell you how to do. I literally just. Draw right over my wacky sketched body forms. Boom. Comic drawn.
Tumblr media
I'll make three suggestions:
Don't focus on making every panel perfect. Give a little extra love to big ones or ones you want people to linger on. Otherwise, know that people are typically speeding through the art. It's way more important to focus on storytelling than art technique. In my opinion, a good story that's told well will always be better than a beautiful one told poorly. (Some comics are beautiful AND well-written... Alas, I am just a hobbyist who needs to get the ideas out of my head at top speed.)
Put your background lines on a different layer. Put your foreground lines on a different layer too, if you have those. Basically, I try to keep the main part of each panel (usually a character or object) on my lines layer so I can erase background/foreground/etc lines to ensure clarity/focus.
You can make background lines lighter colors too. I have too many numbers sorry. (1) Background. The stuff that's farthest away. Lightest lines. Few details; more focused on shapes and the suggestion of a background (I'm not good at backgrounds). (2) Midground. Same distance away as the characters are. Lines can be black. (3) Also midground, and also the same distance away. But they're very detailed, so I lighten them so they aren't so distracting. (4) The characters. Black lines for focus. For people who haven't seen the comic, I swear they are just hugging. This is SFW. D:
Tumblr media
6. Tones/Colors
Do not. Do NOT ask me. I don't understand colors. I hate working with them, but I try because I want to improve. I hate doing anything beyond the simplest grayscale shading. Please go elsewhere for your coloring/tone advice. This is how my color picker looks 95% of the time. I have pre-set "percentages" of black that I got by lowering the opacity of a black layer and just color picking it. I don't even know the exact percentages I used. Good luck out there. Be better than me.
Tumblr media
7. Sharing
This is a bonus step that I didn't mention earlier, but it's actually the most important of all of them.
You need a friend. Or maybe a groupchat or discord. A family member or coworker if you're really close like that. I don't know.
Find SOMEWHERE you can spam wips and be cheered on. Drawing comics takes a while, especially if you're trying to tell longer stories than I'd dare to attempt. If I don't force someone to praise me for every line I draw, I shrivel up and die.
Also if and when you post online, add alt text. I'll admit I'm the first person to complain and drag my feet on this, and I literally use a screenreader myself when my eyes hurt (strong prescription glasses wearer). Comics should be accessible, because stories are fun and everyone should be able to enjoy them.
***
Learning???
And I guess lastly, how do you learn to make comics? Two steps: 1) read them and 2) make them. This is the tragedy of creating things.
1) Reading them: I grew up reading comic strips, western serialized comics, and webcomics. I've always loved graphic novels too. Then in late middle school, I started reading manga (Death Note and Haikyuu were my first two), and now I'm trying to read more webtoons (sorry im so slow bree)!
I also... mass-consume doujinshi, thanks to proxy mailing services and bilingual friends/Google Translate/knowing some Korean. (I have an entire bookshelf of doujin, actually,,)
The thing is, it's not usually enough to just read comics. You also need to be thinking. :/ I notice paneling, comic devices, clever comedic timing, etc. as I go. It's just a lot of studying/learning while also enjoying the story.
2) Making them: You just have to start. :( Even if you think they're "bad." My first comics were actually just drawings placed randomly all over the page, connected by speech bubbles (yay... I was already practicing how to place bubbles to lead the eye around the page...). I was going to post a pic here, but I'm a coward. Backscroll my account and you can find some older ones though.
I also know my art in general improved dramatically when I did ten comics in ten weeks for my friend's fic. Don't do this. It hurt my hands/wrists. But do practice in moderation.
***
If you actually read all that... I hope it made even a modicum of sense. And maybe it was even helpful? Just know at the end of the day, there is literally no right way to draw a comic.
And if you aren't ready to go for it yet, you can start by just adding a couple speech bubbles to your illustrations or doodles! It's a way to add storytelling and dialogue writing to things you may already be making.
Yay. I love comics. :))))

Say Hello to Spring!!!
Tumblr media
Sonic the hedgehog was probably the first piece of media that I was really into as a kid, my gateway into it being a Sonic the hedgehog and Megaman crossover comic I got at a comic store. So it holds a special place in my heart, even if I don’t really keep up with the franchise anymore
Anyway, Spring has changed a lot over the years to the point that she’s an entirely different character than who she started out as. She used to be called Crystal and was a Mary sue hybrid of a character, but now she’s a really stretchy fox that belongs to a sect of mobians that haven’t completely lost their natural instincts yet. When put under extreme amounts of stress, these mobians will enter a more primal survival state that will choose fight flight or freeze. I was thinking of removing this aspect of them completely but I still think it’s a kind of neat concept.
It’s funny because I made Spring before I knew who Tangle was and they’re both very similar characters. I still don’t know much about Tangle character-wise so I’m unsure if they’re similar in that regard but spring is a very energetic extroverted character that has very little filter and is painfully blunt. They have an inappropriate tendency to swear because I thought it’d be funny to see this ray of sunshine swear like a sailor with no malice behind it. He can be very oblivious to the goings on around them, but will be hyper aware of the plot if it’s comedic for them to. You can probably tell that tails is my favorite considering how I draw Spring. Her fur coat changes with the seasons, though I don’t have art of that here.
She’s a very silly guy
Really old sketches with newer redraws:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also want to credit IndigoBeatss on twitter for driving me to practice the hell out of this art style because of how much I loved the way they drew (we’ve never talked, I’ve just been in awe of their art since I first laid eyes on it)

I decided to redraw an older image to round up the end of the year. Here's Dammon, my first BG3 crush :)
Tumblr media
There's about a year between these two drawings. (I've removed the gradient map colour effect from the piece to compare the lineart and shading.) I talk a bit about my learnings and progress below the cut!
Here's the reference image, courtesy of @captainsigge
Tumblr media
Caveat that I'm just a hobbyist, trying to document what worked for me:
Seeing shapes: I've been training myself to notice the planes of the face better and not "flatten" faces. Unfortunately, the only way I know how do this is to keep drawing and re-checking your images. It helps to have a blorbo you love to to keep redrawing :)
Draw what you see, not shorthand: A tendency in manga (where I started) is to stylise the features excessively. I'm probably going to keep drawing hair like this for a long while, but I've worked actively to break myself out of the typical conventions for eyes, noses and lips. And there are going to be a few weird transitional phases in between as you figure it out. (Dammon definitely was one of them.) Looking at the reference picture you can see that although he's handsome, he doesn't have typical "anime" proportions at all and I was trying to force him into them - big eyes, sharp chin, high cheekbones, big hair. BG3 was a great series to practice from because the features lean fairly realistic in proportions, with lots of skin texture.
Brushes: Good brushes that work for your style can do a lot of heavy lifting. In the old picture (left) I'm using a brush that mimics a pencil that adds a lot of texture. In the newer one I'm using a combination of smudgy/smooth brushes and textured charcoal ones. That said, brushes are not a substitute for plain old practice. (My favourites are Jama Jurabaev's brushes for Infinite Painter.)
Values: In both pieces I've used a toned colour layer to mimic skin in both images and then added shadow, but the older one looks significantly flatter and starker than the other. I find get a better range of values by adding a light wash to shade the skin first, and then erasing to add highlights. Sketching in a colour that's not pure black is stylistic choice, but I could add more tones by using a darker, less saturated pencil as well. The more tones, the more dynamic and interesting the image (that's why we love to bump up the contrast on photo filters).
Lighting: I suck at consistent lighting, and this is something I still struggle with. Similar to seeing shapes, it helps to practice and add shadows where they actually exist, instead of free-styling them.
Overall, I'm happy with the progress over one year with a moderate amount of practice :)

Riddle watches New Wish - Post #19
Riddle's Extremely Specific FOP Problems
Just came from looking at screenshots I'd saved of Dev, like these ones from "A New Dev-elopment":
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't think I've said this yet, but the funny thing about Dev is that his hair reminds me of how I draw Happy Peppy Gary, who's been one of my main doodle muses since 2016. They both have ginger spikes:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This week I actually redesigned Gary's hair by letting it grow longer and more curly in the back, so I'll keep Dev's short in the back and only spiky in the front.
They have different skin and eye colors, etc., but it is funny that like, 6(?) years ago, I put Gary in a zipper hoodie.
Tumblr media
I do a lot of traditional art, and I'm really gonna have to do a sketchpage nailing their designs down so they look different in pencil.
My current Gary design does have a spiral in his hair since I do that for all my witches, and I don't think that'll ever come up for Dev, especially if Dale Dimm really is Dev's ancestor - the one person who's extremely UNlikely to be a witch - so... there's that.
Some old Gary sketches where he IS in his Learnatorium clothes:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel like I could redraw any of these poses with Dev, lol. The freckles do a ton of heavy lifting here.
....... I've been writing Ed Leadly and Gary as rivals for YEARS and this is once again adding a cruel layer of irony to my "Ed Leadly as Dev's grandpa" situation.
Tumblr media
Every time I see this kid, I see My Boy in him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They are the same person to me...
The Haunting of Wells House
I like how Marcus keeps calling his daughter Hazelnut. It's cute. I'm glad to see him ready to hunt the "apartment ghost" he's been after since Episode 1.
Hooray for Cosmo and Wanda acting like neighbors!
Tumblr media
I feel like they shouldn't be giving a horror movie to a child if they haven't seen it themselves and then walk back to their room, especially since their line of work is about trauma recovery (or at least... helping kids avoid hurt). They should know better than that.
I'm so glad you can see into their apartment from the hall. Literally nothing stops you or hides their magic stuff. You can just do it...
Marcus sniffing the video while fancy dinner music plays is my everything. They're BOTH silly.
Tumblr media
I like how Cosmo and Wanda poofed up a TV for the apartment and included cobwebs and spiders on it. I guess that makes sense; they were giving Hazel a horror movie.
Ooh, ghostly lightning spirit of the actress trapped in the video?
Hazel has learned nothing from her last experience of wishing to be part of a TV show. She's 10.
Tumblr media
Wait, so... Cosmo and Wanda can hear Hazel's casual wish from across the hall? And poof over?
Uh, maybe we don't tell that to Dev, who just flipped out last episode when Peri didn't show up despite Dev whisper-calling for him when Vicky was putting him to work...
Tumblr media
She... Also, I can't believe Marcus left his daughter under a heavy machine for 4 hours.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So far, our only canon fairy death fits the OG series' implied canon that only non-magical items can kill Fairies [i.e. "magic doesn't affect magic" from "Abra-catastrophe"], so I like that.
I don't have much to say. Pepper seems interesting I suppose, and I can probably have her be a friend of Blonda's in 'fic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I enjoy Jorgen grumpily cleaning up magic messes. That feels right.
... Unclear if Jorgen is keeping a bunch of fairies locked in the basement or if he just has a shelf full of similar-looking items.

【Magi】 Judar and JuAli 🐈‍⬛🖤 ❤️ 💛
Tumblr media
JuAli WIP doodles 🖤 ❤️ 💛
Quick doodles before I head back to my assignments
Been a while since I drew Judar and Alibaba together… I missed them!!! I hope to draw them more~
You can see the rest under the cut~
I wasn't sure if I should post my sketches here since they're so messy but I thought I might as well
I'll copy paste my old rambles too since I have more to add this time
2024 vs. 2022
(2024)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Comparison (2022 ~ 2023)
Tumblr media
(2024)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Comparison (November 2022)
Tumblr media
For the kissy one:
Wasn't sure which one I liked more tbh
1st one fits more...
Though for the 2nd one, I think Judar looks more efforted ADHSHDHSH
Since I excel at drawing meow meow mf charas
3rd one I drew in November 2022. The expressions are still cute in this one so I still like it, but my brush strokes improved a lot since then
For the hanfu Judar one:
Recent versions (+ the old one from 2022)
I've been playing around with the eyes~ I like these ones best. The eyes are bigger in the 1st one, and the others have them a bit smaller. The 1st one has a more innocent look. The 2nd has more slitted eyes and a "seductive" look?
Judar has sharp (tsurime) eyes and rings in his eyes, which are really fun to draw hehe 🤗
I'll redraw the hair soon! I just drew it quickly in like 5 minutes. It's finals season for me. I'm not fully free from this semester so I'm still quite busy, but you'll probably see small doodles from me 🙏
I'm definitely seeing art improvement (improvement in brush strokes and anatomy and proportions)
Ohtaka deliberately draws hatched lines near Judar's eyes to represent his eyeshadow 🤭 ❤️
I drew the hair quickly, so I didn't pay much attention to the shapes of the hair spikes so it's not as soft. But even with the quick doodle, the hair has better weight now. Once I get to refine things properly, I'll actually pay attention to the way his hair spikes are drawn.
I was recently rereading my old dialogue scripts from my JuAli AU and revamping them! I doodled Judar and Alibaba SO much in 2022. It's the Fire/Ice duality and Black Cat x Golden Retriever ship dynamic 🖤💛🐈‍⬛🐕
I wanna draw JuAli again soon and redraw my old doodles. JuAli is my main Magi ship so ofc I wanna draw lots of them~ I haven't gotten the time yet, but I want to draw my ships like AliHaku, SinJa, and KouMor eventually, too 🙏✨
Inspiration
Based on this black and red (Judar colours) hanfu I got~
Tumblr media
Judar rambles
I originally drew Judar wearing hanfu in 2022! Still one of my personal fave doodles ❤️ Judar is my fave (no one is surprised, I have the most obvious predictable tastes in the world LMAO). A meow meow mf perfect for my tastes.
Judar fits perfectly into the highly specific Sen-core niche that my top faves all tend to fall under - Meow meow mf. C*nty sen-core bastard cat who's violent, threatens people, and ok with murder. Bloodthirsty. Monochrome aesthetic colour palette.
Manga Judar has red eyeliner (?) and anime Judar has purple eyeshadow? Both are good, but I like Judar with red eyeliner since black and red are his theme colours! 🖤❤️ I like how the colours pop, the contrast against his design, and how it matches his red eyes.
In my HCs, Judar wears a type of hanfu called Ruqun (襦裙). Ru (襦) is the cross-collared top of a hanfu, and the wrap-around skirt is called Qun (裙). The coat jacket is called Da Xiu Shan (大袖衫).
I want him to wear black, white, red, gold, hanfu & hanfu earrings, with red eyeliner and black painted nails 🤗
I still need to pick my headcanon hanfu earrings for Judar... I imagine they'd be gold with red accessories.
I just have to refine the eyes, redraw the hair and hanfu, and then start doing the lineart for it! I love the expression tbh
Additional rambles
I miss my sons, I wanna draw my HC designs of JuAli (with Judar wearing hanfu and Alibaba with tanner skin, wearing Arab traditional clothes), as a fix-it for the obvious colourism going on in Magi's character designs of SWANA and South Asian inspired characters
I bought black and red hanfu back in 2023. I based my Judar hanfu doodles on it 🥺❤️ It's in Judar colours. Black red and white 🖤❤️🤍 I'm so HAPPY to get something that reminds me of my fave 🥰🤭❤️✨ I got it from the Hanfu Story~ They have such a large selection of hanfu and they're all so gorgeous~
Basically Judar themed hanfu~ I love traditional clothes, so it's my dream to collect them! Now I can use it as refs to draw him with the poses and lighting I want teehee. Hanfu & huafu look GORGEOUS to me. I also have Việt Phục like áo dài and áo tấc~
The colours are amazing!! I love black and red combo 😭💖 It's way too easy to fall into the fashion hole and collecting traditional clothes but I definitely want more in the future!
Magi: Ch. 110 - 111, Ch. 196 - 197, Ch. 239, Ch. 288
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love how Ohtaka stylizes and draws the shape of Judar's hair and braids. It's so clever how she simplifies the shapes. It just looks so good. It looks galaxy/tornado shaped… I love how the hatched lines above his eyes in Ohtaka's inking represents his eyeliner... ❤️
Judar's expressions from Ch. 110 - 111 are so unhinged… The Ch. 288 omake Judar is iconic. Fucking crazy ass LMAO 😭😂 Love you tho! 💞🫶
I'll be honest. I've thought about changing my PFP to this Judar again from the Magi omakes, like I thought of doing it as an April Fool's joke before, but I feel like no one would bat an eye cuz of how my faves are like LMFAO
Sen-core faves: Murderous, bloodthirsty, violent (or at the very least, has a disposition for violence), MAY eat people and/or their innards 🙌
JuAli core ship posts
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And while you're at it, have the meme edit of them I made (1st image)
Anyways I made the 1st image's meme edit myself <33
Alibaba with tanner skin has such great visual contrast against his earrings~
I also wanna commission arts of JuAli at one point but I'd want to do it with my headcanon designs of them (Judar wearing hanfu and Alibaba with tanner skin wearing Arab traditional clothes)
Art rambles
When I sketch, I draw out the expressions and decide which ones looks best (I either do it once or a few ~ several times) depending on whether I'm satisfied with it. I like the two most recent 2024 versions I showed~ The old ones are still nice... But I prefer the recent versions, because I think it shows how my art style and proportions improved.
These sketches are super messy right now so when I get the time I'll refine them more! It's just to make it consistent with my current style. I'm a little insecure about my sketches, so I prefer to keep most of them on priv for mutuals.
Since I'm not really a fan of the idea of my sketches/WIPs getting posted around when I'm bound to fix/refine/improve on them later when I get the chance to refine them. Though thankfully with my 2022+ lining style, my sketches look more "aesthetically nice" or "post worthy" to me...
Perhaps in the future... I do genuinely like my art style and I'm very happy with my art improvement, but I want to keep growing as an artist first. I want to reach the point where I manage to become more technically skilled and confident about my works (even my sketches)
Though since I posted the rest of the sketches under the cut, feel free to reblog them if you want!

Modern Sonic(Lost Prince AU)
Tumblr media
Credit to Mikuhoshi cause they along with the Miku Hatsune Sonic costume were inspiration for Sonic's outfit. Rika Furude from Higurashi can be blamed for Sonic's bangs cause for the longest time ever since I saw her as a kid(YouTube use to be wild) I was obsessed with Rika's hair. I just thought it'd be funny to mix old obsessions.(Also it's funny that her haircut is called hime cut for hopefully obvious reasons)
I've been meaning to post a well post about my version of Sonic for a while. One reason is cause I wanted to talk about it & in a way sort out my thoughts/ideas for my version. The second reason is cause I wanted to post it in order to start showing of the refs I made for this version.
This is one of the many traditional sketch refs I made for Lost Prince AU, I want to eventually redraw these as digital ref images later. Probably not coming any time soon though but I'm going to try & post some more.
-
Sonic is the local hero of Mobius, he's been around long enough that most likely know him. He's usually with his friends or off alone doing something. He's a bit of an introvert that has a lot of extrovert energy/personality. The blue hedgehog often seems smug but part of the time it's just his attempt to deal with the shit he has to deal with on multiple occasions from an enraged god to watching his crush plummet to Earth. Sonic is friendly & tries to be there for everyone even if it annoys some of the more loner ones. Despite having to defeat the bad guy he tries to keep killing as a last resort.
Most of Sonic's close friends are aware he has amnesia & are also aware that whatever is causing it hurts him when he manages to remember. While Sonic wants to remember he worries about how far he'll go & fears the idea of losing it again. While he accepts nothing lasts forever he still thinks about the past & wishes to learn what he's missing especially since he feels like he's missing something important. Sonic is completely unaware of his past as a prince that has been missing for over 4 decades. He remembers somethings like his adopted parents & that his mom is purple like the hair clip he wears but can't remember anything else about his mom.
Sonic often struggles expressing some of his wants & worries about what others think due to having put up a persona trying to be the hero people need. Tails seems to know & Vanilla knows due to making sure Sonic calls her on occasion, while Sonic trusts his friends he fears opening up. He's slowly getting there but it's taking a while.
At some point Sonic was turned into a were Mobian with some extra abilities due to having energy from Dark Gaia. Some time after the events leading to that Sonic found himself turning into or partly into a were Mobian again. At first he wasn't happy about it but came to be ok with this second form especially as he learned to control it until he was able to transform at will unless for certain times. While Sonic can't do the stretchy arms thing like when he had Dark Gaia energy he's still doing pretty well swinging from trees & running on all fours. Sonic when he needs to enjoys night time runs & has found his way into were Mobian communities & has started being more of himself around them.
-
I have no idea how to shrink this down any more than I already have. You can ask more about shit if you want cause I will ramble more & it's going to take a while to show other shit.

What your most absolute favorite Reko 4 koma/ Nanki doodles pieces ever? What make you like em :D?
i love this question, but because im awful at picking favorites, it took forever for me to answer. this did give me a very good excuse to go reread all the 4-koma comics with her in it, though.
todays favorite, because ill never let myself have an all-time favorite, is probably this interaction she has with kanna in #24.
Tumblr media
theres this trope in the 4-koma comics that kanna is really obsessed with romance and always trying to get the other characters to talk to her about that kind of stuff, and i think its just really accurate middle-school-girl characterization in a way we dont get to see as much in the game because shes too traumatized, unfortunately. in terms of reko's characterization, i like getting to see her trying to be a guiding role for kanna, and i do think her advice is pretty mature here.. until she gets flustered and loses her temper, which is pretty funny in of itself ngl.
someone mentioned that reko is more of a fail girl in the side content, and i think thats pretty accurate, especially the ones where shes paired up with nao. its very nice to be able to see different angles of rekos character- from saras perspective, reko is mostly a protective adult figure, but shes actually kinda goofy and easy to fluster out of that context. sara is kind of a straight man and can be quite serious, so she doesnt really catch reko off guard very often. alice is more well-known for putting on a hard exterior, but reko kinda does it too, and its more obvious (or maybe more exaggerated) in the light-hearted side content.
as for the sketches, ill pick this one as my favorite.
Tumblr media
this is from nankidai's highschool au, which ive ranted about on here. ive actually done a redraw of it but never posted it here. it combines 2 of my favorite things: rekos delinquent era and her habit of being instantly inclined to beat the shit out of sou purely based on his rank ass vibes. rekos delinquent era, as a character point, tends to get kind of brushed off, though i cant really blame anyone for that because in the context of the death game its 1. old news and 2. kind of only mentioned within 1 or 2 throwaway lines rather than anything more substantial. even so, it stands out to me a lot, and makes sense in combination with other aspects of her character.
as for other sketches, id choose one of the several where she gets blushy and flustered somehow. its a trend.

For the artist ask: 3, 13, 19
3. your favorite piece(s)?
THIS ONE. It's my all time favorite and a redraw of an older all time favorite. Looking at him and his small crooked toothy smile just makes me so happy I instantly smile. I'm pretty happy with the technical skills I pulled off with it too but the character and the emotion is really what makes this a happy piece for me.
Tumblr media
And these two pieces! I am growing quite fond of my linework lately and I really feel that with both the Line version and the Color version I really brought out the different aspects and emotions I wanted to with each version. And I pushed myself and for the color version tried working with colors in the background/lighting that I don't often use.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
13. talk about a wip you like!
REALLY OLD EXAMPLE. I have LONG since finished this piece but I loved the WIP more than the finished version so I kept it. I think I've even deleted the finished piece off my social medias, but I just love the in between stage so much that I am still holding onto it years later. uuuuh I could probably talk more about it but I'm gonna add a more recent WIP that is actually unfinished and talk a bit about it.
And yes. I still draw rough muscle diagrams as my first sketch layer.
Tumblr media
Now this one I sketched out on my birthday, it's just a little stickynote sketch, so a thumbnail sketch, but I really really want to finish it I just havent had TIME. I have big plans for it, it's a companion piece to another drawing, the flip side of the monster, and I want to re-compose that one to more closely match this one, and THEN, stickers and prints of course but I want... I have two crappy side tables with square wooden plank tops. I want to figure out how to stencil the two pieces' line art onto them and woodburn them onto them... maybe paint idk. I've not painted in forever.
Tumblr media
19. where do you find inspiration?
While first off as you can probably tell from the first WIP, muscle diagrams and greco-roman statues.
But in many places, mostly in traditional 3d forms of art or have an element of 3d in their process. My biggest inspirations are statuary and carousels, and for 2d, woodblock print art from old fairy tale books!
I also take quite a bit of inspiration from various religions' artwork. Painted/carved Reliefs, stained glass, etc.
Lots of artwork that's meant to capture a moment and freeze it under a layer of heavy iconography and symbolism. A lot of times when I draw my characters, it's on purpose not exactly how they look, but using in-lore stylizations to convey certain things and to keep their appearance somewhat the same despite some of the important things on their person constantly changing over the course of their story (for example the small braids on Asim/Yunuen typically being portrayed as pinned up in two loops with a set amount of beads and rings. it's an iconographic choice denoting their connection to the House of Fate, as well as maintaining that they cherish the tradition of the braid despite not having one anymore after having it forceably cut off/just recently starting one and only having one or two beads on it)
That big aside aside, I also find so much inspiration from so many artists I stumble across on tumblr! Usually just tiny little things, like how they draw certain hair types, or how they do certain cloth folds.
And uh. Like two years ago I binge watched HunterxHunter and it permanently changed how I approach drawing lips and hands.

1 - 23 :3
cracks knuckles okay
1. how would you describe your art style? uhhhhhhhh, maybe "safe" is the word rn. whenever I think of my art style, what comes to mind is just how little I've been pushing things with it. I wanna change that ;D
2. what's your favorite thing about your style? I realize I like to use semi-realistic proportions, its cool how comfortable I've gotten with drawing faces and bodies
3. what's your least favorite thing about your style? It's so static man. same thing I said for the first question, I don't think anything really looks bad, but it just is lacking in creativity in comparison to the older art that should be looking worse than what I do now. I prefer my older stuff ;D (looking at you inktobertale2021.. where did it all go wrong)
4. favorite thing to draw? regular ol people. human characters are def more in my comfort zone, which explains why I keep hitting skeletons with the humanization ray (also I prefer to draw feminine characters)
5. least favorite thing to draw? I can't even say I rlly dislike it cuz of how rarely I even do it, but I am procrastinating so hard on learning backgrounds..
6. warm colors or cool colors? cool colors are my fav, but i find it easier to work with warm ones (I used to put a cool overlay over all my warm toned drawings hgdhfg)
7. show us a WIP behold, the wip ever. this drawing... was supposed to be posted on august 2022. and then, it was supposed to be posted on dec 21st, dream and nightmares birthday. (atp if I do end up wanting to finish this idea again, I'll probably just scrap it and start over)
Tumblr media
8. what's the most fun and least fun parts about your process? most fun is flat color and rendering. (though I rarely do the latter anymore) and for least fun, tbh a lot of the sketching part tends to be difficult for me, sometimes its cool tho
9. show us a finished piece alongside the original sketch example from when sketching was fun
Tumblr media Tumblr media
10. how many different sketches do you usually have until your piece is finished? I think I do need to make more of at least thumbnail sketches tbh.. I usually just make one and keep editing it, trusting the process. (and that fails like 70% of the time. woww wonder why sketching isnt fun for me-) 11. show us the last thing you drew, be it a finished piece or a small doodle can this count,,
Tumblr media
12. show us an old drawing first deltarune drawing. here's the redraw I later made of this :3 (also old hsgdhgf)
Tumblr media
13. how long do you usually take one a piece? depends. I'll have like 276478923 wips started, and then I get a random idea that I just have to do right at that moment, and I'll get it done in like 1-4 hours. meanwhile old sketches start to rot and maybe if its lucky I'll revisit it before my motivation dies and my style is too different to wanna continue from where I left off 14. digital or traditional? digital all the way, i've gotten too dependent on the transform tool + liquefy ;D (and many other things tbh but I'd be here all day if I tried comparing them more jhdjdf)
15. if digital, what program do you use? procreate, the layouts on other drawing programs scare me
16. favorite media to work with when drawing traditionally pen on paper (am I understanding this right wdym media-)
17. what do you love getting compliments about? I like when people enjoy the humanizations I come up with, and also original designs in general 18. are you satisfied with the attention your art usually gets? hmmm yeah
19. how often do you draw? very often, I just don't have finished things to share most days
20. a piece from this year that you're really proud of :3
Tumblr media
21. something you would like to improve on the dynamicness (well, the lack of it) of everything, as said before
22. what inspires you? Ink sans and a ton of creators in this fandom (also animated shows and movies, I love animation)
23. what's something you hope people notice when looking at your art? idk tbh, just notice it at all and I'm happy :>

I'd like to know the answer for both Shay and Richelle pweath 😳👉👈💗
🧊 - Is their current design the first one? (Do share some concept sketches or so if you'd like I'd love to hear your process in creating your OCs! 🤩)
💀 - Does your OC have any phobias?
🍩 -Who is your OC’s arch-nemesis or rival?
───   💗      𝗔𝗦𝗞 𝗚𝗔𝗠𝗘 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗦𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗢𝗡𝗘'𝗦 𝗢𝗖𝗦
Tumblr media
🧊 ::   Is their current design the first one?
i've never actually finished a drawing of either of richelle's designs beyond sketches, but you can see them here. shay on the other hand has had a few. I was asked this same question here and mentioned having to dig thru my pc for them. — i had a chance to do so since then i could only manage to find one but I KNOW there's more i haven't scanned so i'm gonna have to dig for my old sketchbooks in storage :') AHGJFGBJK anyway, if you've been around for a while you're probably familiar with her previous design with the purple pants. ihat one was her first 'real' design and i used it for the longest time and even after her recent(ish) redesign, i'm still too attached to it to scrap it completely, so it's just her backstory design now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
💀 ::   Does your OC have any phobias?
i'm not sure about any actual full on phobias by the literal sense of the word, but richelle's greatest fear is losing her only good eye since her right is a prosthetic, while shay's afraid of being strangled and having to see (more) friends die in front of her 😔✊
Tumblr media
    🍩 ::   Who is your OC’s arch-nemesis or rival?
answered here for richelle! as for shay...
Tumblr media
( pardon the sketch, i haven't drawn in days and i need to redraw em orz ) ANYWAY e was a Cuban gang leader by the name of Estefania Santamaría Torres, but Shay would always call her "Scarface". [ 'Spivak' pronouns preferred (e/em/eir) but she/her for safety. ] The story is long and conflicting and tbh i've never fully written it out, but Estefania killed the previous leaders and took over i mean... she ran the Outlaw support gang that Shay got herself wrapped up in before fleeing to Cairo and becoming involved with DIO. I have to save it for it's own post since it's so long, but Shay got on eir bad side (which isn't hard to do tbh) and yeah :') I don't talk about em too much, but Estefania is one of my favorite OCs like,, easily in my top 5 and it still makes me SO upset that e needs to die for story progression 😭 Speaking of that, Estefania is the reason Shay ends up in Cairo in the first place; Shay fled because she was afraid of gang retaliation, mostly because Este liked to play up eir influence. She's also the one that gave Shay her stand using one of the set of extra stand arrows i added (which i'll also explain later i swear fghng) i don't wanna ramble too much but yeah it's a lot dfnjkfg 😭
