in a post makeup world I need to see buck getting to work, he's pretty much glowing and when he gets to the locker rooms and starts changing chimney almost screams.

and buck looks at him confused, unbeknownst to the way chim and eddie are looking at him with a mix of concern and amusement. so he asks and chimney says something along the lines of “tommy really worn you out didn't he?"

and we see his back and it's got like a LOT of scratches, maybe even a bite mark on a shoulder. buck chuckles when he gets what they mean and simply says:

“oh, this? this is nothing, you should see tommy's"

Yeah, so while I was on my "I'm going to read into Vanny/Vanessa as much as possible" journey, I noticed an odd quirk in her animations in how she moves. At first, I thought it reminded me of a ballerina, 'cause she's kinda tip-toeing, & she has this way of keeping her head & chest in one place as she moves, but I looked again & realized --

That's not ballet! She's doing a tight-rope act. Like, look at this one:

This is like standing up on the wooden boards before you do the actual tight-rope walking, & the ring leader is hyping you up as you do some fun movement for the crowds. &, then, these:

These are all instances where she walks with one foot directly in front of the other. In that third, she's doing the "woaaah" wiggly-ass balance movements & everything, as if she's swaying up at the top of the tent, even though she's down on solid ground.

Idk, I feel like the way her feet are placed isn't accurate (pretty sure they should be pointed left & right, not both forwards...) doesn't make this 100% correct, but I like it. It also connects back with her first SB teaser, wherein she's up in the rafters.

Yes this is heartbreaking as a concept but its also a really good answer - because it is exactly what I had hoped and wanted the case to be for Buck and Chris and their relationship. Because casue everything about Buck in 8a makes so much more sense if this is the state of things for Buck!

Buck going on a baking spiral makes a lot more sense if you add the idea that he is struggling with the Chris of it all. The baking as a response to a relationship that the show put next to zero effort into fleshing out and developing - but Buck is supposedly so broken up about it that he cant stop baking things! I never brought it up- even with the first mlm relationship of it all.

The clinging onto Tommy and clinging onto that relationship after it has ended makes som inch more sense when you think about the fact Buck is already in his abandonment spiral - that the spiral started with Chris leaving to go to El Paso.

Chris is someone Buck is super close with - someone who Buck is playing a parental role towards - someone who he regards as almost a son (even if he won’t admit that to himself). Eddie turns to Buck for help multiple times in s7 (and before that but especially in 7) - and Buck helps and failing to convince Chris to stay in LA - failing Eddie in his time of need - that is the beginning of Bucks abandonment spiral started- not the break up with Tommy.

And what have we seen Buck do when he is feeling abandoned - cling to things he shouldn’t - things that aren’t working. So Buck clings to Tommy as a coping mechanism - he can’t talk to Eddie about any of this - Bucks feelings about Chris are irrelevant and insignificant in relation to Eddies and Buck needs to be there for Eddie - to support Eddie. So he clings onto a relationship that is stale and uninteresting because it is a distraction from the feelings he isn’t supposed to have (in Bucks head) and therefore doesn’t actually look at the reality of it - he can convince himself that all is good and he can then be there for Eddie and follow Eddies lead

Then because he’s already partly in an abandonment spiral - finding out about the Abby of it all knocks him further into said spiral and bucks response is as we’ve seen before - to cling harder and be impulsive - so he jumps to asking Tommy to move in with him - tries to cling to that one bit of stability he thinks he as - becasue boring is stable right!

Then we have the fact he says he sees Tommy as this confident and comfortable person - and that’s what Buck wants desperately to be - the person he has never felt he is and that’s is nothing to do with him being bi and only just discovering that part of himself, its everything to do with the fact that Chris is a massive and missing part of his world and that is making him crumble a bit inside. It’s not about him actually having feelings for Tommy it’s him trying to “become Tommy” (which is why I remain convinced of my assertion that Tommy is meant to be a version of Buck!).

We’ve been given context clues that also play into and emphasise the Christopher leaving of it all - the party for Chris’s birthday in 801 - being shown Buck rearranging the lettering of CHRISTOPHER on the banner - a play on the fact Buck has been rearranged by Chris choosing to leave - that Buck is trying to cling on - but in the background - he is after all behind the couch - hiding - waiting behind Eddie - at Eddies shoulder - following Eddies lead - rather than being next to Eddie on the couch. We’re being shown where Buck thinks his place is rather than where his place actually is - on the couch next to Eddie - a place where he will end up.

That’s also why showing Buck and Eddie on the couch together at the end of 806 is so important - an episode called confessions - its a silent confession to the audience that Buck and Eddie are meant to be next to each other - meant to be equals - we’re only shown them from the waist up in the final shot - both drinking beer and both dressed - we cannot see the fact Eddie is not wearing pants - visually they are equals in that moment - and as it is the first and only tine we have seen them on the couch together ever - it is very telling and important.

So his reaction to being dumped by Tommy isn’t about being dumped by Tommy as much as it’s about not having that one boring thing that provided him some semblance of stability to cling onto any more, that thing that was helping him ignore his feelings of abandonment that had once more risen to the surface. So he starts baking - an aspect of cooking that he hasn’t really explored yet. And Cooking is all about family - and Chris is the part of his family that is missing - so maybe if Buck bakes and gets good at it - Chris will come back. So Buck channels all his energy into something that is heavily connected into family and the concept of building a family - the show has literally shown us Buck progressing form breakfast through to main meals as his family has grown and become something secure for him. So baking makes complete sense for Bucks character development.

Baking specifically is something kids tend to do with their parents or grandparents as a fun activity - and that plays into the childhood Buck didn’t get - because a child he views as a son abandoning him is bringing up a lot of the buried issues around Daniel - al this things Buck hasn’t dealt with. It’s why the show choosing to show him baking with Jee-Yun is so important - it’s a callback to Buck cooking with Chris (the steaks in s6) and ties into the family aspect very clearly. It’s also why Eddie being shown as the only one to actually eat and enjoy Bucks baking is important - again emphasising the family aspect of it all.

And now Eddie is also leaving - and as much as buck has been supporting Eddie - being there for Eddie in Eddie’s time of need - he was also doing that because Eddie was his rock to cling onto in the sea of his inner turmoil - Eddie has been his lighthouse and his one super stable thing - its the perfect example of them needing each other in such a deep and meaningful way that it cannot be expressed and doesn’t need to be.

And I’m not trying to say that Bucks first queer relationship hasn’t had a big impact on him and that it isn’t part of his baking spiral etc, just that the reason we’ve been shown Buck struggling to deal with this break up far more loudly than any of his other breakup ups (including the Abby one because that wasn’t really explicitly shown as a struggle for him - it was just lurking in the background until Buck chose to move on) is because it is about multiple factors being at play - because it is about the break up of his family and his queer awakening is an important part of that because it puts a different slant on the family Buck has been building and is seemingly losing.

There have been many different things in Rafayel's life that inspired him when it comes to his art, But nothing took control of his heart so intensely as much as you have. Like a whirlpool you shook him to his core from that first meeting, and all he wants to do is capture you on his canvas for eternity.

It really was quite the blessing with how willing you were to become his bodyguard- not only can he keep you within arms reach but you can also protect him from all the shady people after his life. Like killing 2 birds with one stone, except you were so much stronger and beautiful than any stone he’s ever set eyes on before

He absolutely felt like a flirt to you at the start with all of the compliments and casual physical touch between you guys, He just loved to say how amazing you are while enclosing you in a deep bear hug. It was strange at first you'd admit, but it never felt like he was trying to make any passes at you or act like he was expecting anything in return. Perhaps that's just how he acts with people he trusts?

When Rafayel isnt painting, you two spend a lot of time outside finding inspiration all around. He usually has a sketchbook with him scribbling away anytime he sees something interesting- the landscapes, pretty flowers, or even a parfait you guys got to share. You’ve seen some of these sketches as he works on them, it always amazes you how much detail he can capture with so few lines.

He never let you fully flip through the sketchbook however, claiming all sorts of reasons why, like that the drawings were scared of the sunlight or you had to go through many trials to be worthy. It was obvious how much he cherished it and you respected his wishes, though it would be nice to reminisce on some of the good times you guys had together again. Though its not like your phone wasn't filled to the brim with photos already

Late one night, you stop by his place to make sure he didn't need any motivation to finish a painting for a deadline set the next morning. You have confidence he could make it in time, he always did, but you want to help him as best as you can otherwise. When you arrive you spot a stunning completed painting and a Rafayel sleeping on the sofa below it- both stunning as they're illuminated by the moonlight.

Taking it upon yourself to clean up his supplies a little, just enough to not be a walking hazard of course, you spot his precious travel sketchbook on the floor. Surely he wouldn't mind if you took a little peak in it, you'd love to see how he finished the last landscape you guys saw before he locked himself up to work. As you flip through the pages you see so many familiar sights from your time together so far, but scattered around them filling maybe even more pages was many drawings of a person. Of you. All surrounded by hearts and little notes about things you've said.

When did he have a chance to draw all of these? Is this how you look to him?? Questions race your mind as your face flushes at the image of him intensely scribbling in the sketchbook as you dance around the beach being dumb. You decide to grab a pencil and add your attempt of a sketch of him in the back, signing it with a little heart of your own. It’s nowhere near his skill level but something that captures how you feel, and maybe he would get a chuckle out of it once he spots it.

You don’t realize when the casual acts of affection he started out with turn slightly more romantic- going from linking arms together to holding your hand, and you swear you feel him press little kisses on the top of your head every time he wraps his arms around you. But you don't hate it, in fact it makes your heart flutter every time you realize it

Rafayel often messages you at the most random times to meet him somewhere, usually it was because he found a stunning view and wanted to share the experience with you. Sometimes he would even show up at your apartment to whisk you away, and every time it filled you with joy. These dates and every moment you get to spend with him fill your heart with so much warmth.

One particularly warm night you were woken up by a call inviting you to the beach near his studio. It was worth crawling out of the bed at an ungodly hour, not only for the view but for him. While you were admiring the waves, he couldn't keep his eyes off you as a cautious pinky is hooked around yours. Two faces flush as you look at him, it lasts for only a moment before its interrupted by your watch.

Your face falls as you read the notification “It looks like I got a last minute mission in the morning…I guess this means I have to head back already.” As you take a heavy step to start walking away he reaches out to stop you with a pleading look on his face “Wait, don’t go yet” “Rafayel…. I’m sorry, I really am. This night- everything was wonderful, it really was” “Can’t you just stay the night?” He wraps his arms around you, nuzzling his face into your neck “Please just stay the night, I don’t want you to leave.” Your heart flutters as you wrap your arms around him in return “Okay, I’ll stay for you my sweet painter”

He is the most clingy man you’ve ever met, constantly torn between wrapping himself around you while peppering every inch of skin with kisses and diving headfirst into hundreds of paintings with you as his muse. His studio would be covered in nothing but paintings of you if he didn't have to focus on his commissions.

He sculpted out a place in your heart that held him, and in turn you've devoted yourself to him- loving him with every fiber of your being

So uh. This is actually as far as my "script" has gone (script as in written dialogue. Ofc i have other stuff planned, and know where this chapter is going.) Basically this means not only do I still have pages to make after this, but I also have to actually write the rest of the dialogue out too :/ I won't be updating again anytime soon because of that, but also because my uni is so demanding it's crazy.. Haven't had time for like any passion projects :(

I also have some news on how updates will happen going forwards. I'm gonna address it in a separate post to explain exactly why I'm changing my update schedule, but good news is you guys won't have to wait months just for 2 page updates anymore! (Because I will be doing massive page drops maybe twice a year. 10-20 pages)
