Man another terrible take in the grima tag smh
I’ve a lot of thoughts about how interesting and meaty it is that grima and Eowyn mirror each other in certain respects; a reader doesn’t have to like it but they both oath broke.
Grima would have made an oath as liege man to Theoden which he broke out of, presumably (because Tolkien never states it explicitly, only implies through Gandalf), fear and ambition and desire.
Eowyn made an oath to her uncle that she would defend Edoras while the men were at Helm’s Deep and subsequently when they went to Gondor to aid Denethor et al. She left Edoras and took up with the riders of her own accord because of fear and ambition and desire.
Grima feared Sauron and death and pain and so on.
Eowyn feared dying in her home after all the men themselves were dead. A death she deems pointless and without honour.
A fear is a fear.
Grima was ambitious and desired things - he was after control and power and wealth and (according to eomer at least) Eowyn.
Eowyn was ambitious and desired things - honour in battle and to have experiences denied to her and to serve her people in the way she wants to rather than the way she is told to serve them (because she’s still serving them by holding Edoras! That’s a very important role in medieval warfare!) and to take control of her life.
A desire is a desire.
They are fantastic mirrors of one another and I think you get a much flatter and more bland read when you refuse to engage with what Tolkien gave us. And he did these things deliberately. Grima is a prism reflecting a warped version of Gandalf, Eowyn, and Saruman within himself. How fascinating is that!
You don’t have to like him, and you don’t have to like that Tolkien made these literary choices, but you not liking it doesn’t stop it from existing in the text
(And this isn’t getting into the fact that Eowyn has faults and is allowed to make choices that within her society would be seen as the wrong choices! Leaving Edoras, the capital, while there are people invading from the east—something Theoden et al knew was a thing!—is in fact the wrong choice. It is, in fact, the selfish choice. Within the culture of her people and the reality of warfare it is the bad choice! She is allowed to make it! And her reasons can be complex! Some good and some more flawed! It makes her way more interesting than if she had no flaws!)
#granted this person I think only works within the movies#and they’re more shallow#also Eowyn is defanged in the films#Grima wormtongue#lotr#lord of the rings#anyway#I blocked them because I’m too tired for discourse#but then I just had my usual brain worms about this#so made a passive aggressive post

By and large, the Buddy Daddies fandom has been great with the interpretation of Kazuki and Rei as being Queerplatonic and/or Platonic Life Partners. And as someone who is aroace, I am deeply happy and grateful for this, because far too often aspec based interpretations of queerness in fandom spaces are met with ridicule, flippant attitudes, or even downright hostility (ex. calling people homophobic for viewing queer characters as aspec instead of gay or lesbian, etc.).
Of course, every fandom has its bad apples. Here is an example of aphobia:
The tweet reads: The fact that Kazuki and Rei of Buddy Daddies share a bank account like...I know what you are what you are 🏳️🌈 I will not accept “queer platonic” fics and headcanons when Kazuki is very obviously Rei’s wife.
This person is making it very clear, by putting queer platonic in quotation marks, that they view this interpretation of Rei and Kazuki as not only wrong, but also as lesser than viewing them as a romantic and sexual gay relationship.
This is what aphobia looks like in fandom spaces. I’ve seen it in, I believe, every fandom that I’ve been in (except The Bastard Son and the Devil Himself, iirc). People will mock or look down on the idea and concept of things like queerplatonic relationships or platonic life partners and state that the concepts sound like “just friends.” I’ve been harassed by someone and called a ch*ld pr*dator simply for making aspec based headcanons about fictional teen characters, and, like I mentioned above, I’ve been called homophobic and lesbophobic for daring to view some characters as being aspec instead of gay or lesbian.
Stuff like this may seem like not a big deal at the end of the day, since they aren’t huge injustices or anything like that, but stuff like this is still invalidating and can still sting. The Buddy Daddies fandom as a whole has been a hugely welcoming fandom in regards to aspec interpretations of the characters, and I love that! <3 It makes me feel safe and accepted, which is rare, because aspec voices and interpretations are usually mocked, ignored, or greeted with hostility in fandom spaces.
So, all I ask is, if you see aphobic stuff like this happening in the Buddy Daddies fandom, please do anything BUT encourage it. Shut it down, ignore it, block. Anything like that is fine. Shipping Kazuki and Rei romantically and/or sexually is totally fine. I don’t mind that interpretation in the least and wouldn’t be upset if the series did end up going in that direction either.
But there is a reason a lot of aspec fans are flocking to this series, and that’s because this is such a good depiction of what a queerplatonic and/or platonic life partner partnership would look like. I don’t know. I know this likely isn’t the intention of the creators, specifically, since they just wanted to explore the themes of found family and a same-sex couple raising a child together, but it really does feel like being seen. I would want to live with a partner in a very similar way as Kazuki and Rei (minus the child, personally, lol), so seeing it normalized here and not being the constant butt of “are they gay?” or “no homo” or “we’re just friends” type of jokes and clarifications is so refreshing and validating.
Anyway, yeah, seeing that tweet just made me so...tired. I’m so tired of seeing aphobia in fandom spaces and it being treated as a big deal or not a big thing. So I figured I’d make this post to just let people know about the aspect experience a bit.
Finally, just to clarify, this isn’t meant to be a discourse post or anything of that like. More of just a general awareness post of “Hey, see this? Not cool, and here is why.” type of thing. But, I love and adore the Buddy Daddies fandom and just want to continue seeing it be such a warm fandom space for aspec fans. <3

There is something that I can’t understand and will never understand about fandom “culture”
Why EVERYTHING (or a lot of things) need to be canon or acknowledged by the actors/directors/producers to be accepted by the fandom? In specific ships?
And why when a “ship” (two characters, really) have more screentime than others/other characters aren’t in the picture anymore, people take that as a victory as see their ship as more valid and “actually canon”? And mock/harass others for it?
Also there is this thing people have been doing a lot too: Thats calling everyone that doesn’t like the ship you like names (and also calling them terms that before actually meant something awful but nowadays can be said for simply tagging the incorrect ship in a fucking post)
Canon isn’t always the norm here kid. At least when it relates to ships and scenarios. (Bc if we’re talking about characterization… yes it needs to be canon in a sense or we’re writing/making ocs out of canon characters)
Most of the more popular ships will never be canon and have never been, especially the gay ones. (See Drarry, Narusasu, Frodo/Sam, Johnlock, etc, etc)
So why suddenly we care so much about what NEEDS to be canon or not?
Why people NEED to see their ships be canon so badly?
Sure, I can be seen as a hypocrite because Ive been talking about Stucky a lot in the canon and what happened in EG, but they actually did that themselves. The directors talked about gay characters, the actors talked about Stucky. So actually it isn’t something ludicrous or anything. (I’ve never thought they would actually make the ship canon -bc that would be a big problem for them “how can you make Cap America gay!” And shit- but I thought they would at least make them still be friends or friendly or acknowledge the “bromance” and they just killed the friendship in one scene with the most ooc shit ever). In fact, I’m more annoyed by that. They assassinated Steve’s character and Bucky’s progress.
Nevermind…
Why people fight so much about ships and use terms that shouldn’t be brought into stupid shit like this?
Fandoms are supposed to be fun and to have discussions (in good faith) about the canon. What we like and what we don’t like about it.
Besides, a lot of current media are about stuff that’s been remade over and over again. So they have a lot of adaptations and you can pick and choose too, if you want.
And if you don’t like the canon? Easy! Do analysis, criticize it, write fics, do fanart, do creative shit or simply ignore it! No one is forcing you to keep on watching the show or the stuff you now hate/cant stand. That’s what Im doing at least.
Sure, I criticize some people and movies a lot and get actually annoyed by the disrespect towards/assassination of some characters, but at the end of the day I can only shrug and say “it is what it is” and leave it at that. (Meaning not giving them money for the new stuff/not watching nor caring about it and only acknowledging the old things I actually care about and like)
But I don’t insult or disrespect other people in fandom because of it. And also I don’t harass the directors or actors either, ffs.
Idk, Ive always been on the sidelines of the stuff I follow, I’ve never been on the thick of fandoms so maybe thats why I don’t understand.
And I’ve also not seen so many crazy shit (the most crazy stuff Ive seen is people calling others racists for tagging a ship incorrectly and also others inflating the tag of a ship in ao3 so their ship would be “the most popular” with most fics, in that fandom) because I actually curate what I see. I don’t like a ship? I mute, if I can’t stand a person or a ship? I block em. Simple and easy.
I’ve always drawn stuff for myself, read fics and made headcanons. Only recently I’ve been sharing stuff more openly, so maybe it’s that.
Idk.
I’m just tired of seeing discourse and people fighting over this stuff.
#kinda personal#im really tired pf people fighting over ships#also the inflating of the tag in ao3 was a big problem bc most of those supposed works were a phrase written over and over again#it was the most petty pathetic shit ive seen#you like a ship? good do a fic or write headcanons#you dont like that another ship is more popular than your otp/the ship you like? DO MORE FICS OR ARTWORK OF IT#also… like in canon MCU Nat and Bruce were together kinda#but in some comics Nat is with Bucky#and so on and so forth#So a lot of ships can be canon in different media#Steve was supposed to be with Sharon but they didn’t flesh the ship and then used Peggy to stop us from shipping Stucky#in Mcu#But that will discourage me from shipping what I like? No.#my shipping tastes don’t depend on canon#im very particular in the ships I read content sometimes…#particular in the sense that I take a character and ship it with a lot of others#lmao#you can see me liking canon ships and then the most random ship in the same series/movie#Like Blaise Zabini x Harry Potter my beloved#or sometimes crossovers bc sometimes I need to read that shit#Jasper Withlock x Harry my other beloved#but how I said I don’t understand the need to fight or shame/antagonize others#and welp sometimes the fandom makes me despise or avoid a ship too bc of how they actually write and interact with em#like I see that ship tagged? not going to interect bye#and I leave it as that#simple and easy

hello, friends 🫶🏻
just a psa/personal rant?? not really a rant but
i wanted to talk about a few things, and i think the cleanest and easiest segue is to say: i have left all of my writing networks. it is 100% nothing personal to any of them, i have enjoyed each and every one, but there are a few reasons why.
one, i am not active in any of the discord servers, so there was ✨anxiety✨ about not contributing and feeling obligated.
two (and this is the segue part): obviously these networks have a big reach, and i am feeling more and more anxious about exposing my work to the masses.
it’s a double-edged sword, because i write what i want and what makes me happy, but there is always a part of me that wants feedback and wants other people to see and enjoy it. but it has been tense here lately and the “please do not perceive me” feelings are REAL.
there is just… no nuance anymore. me posting “i don’t think it was a good decision for jungkook to go to qatar” turned into a bunch of anons calling me islamophobic and a bunch of other stuff. me saying it was a bad look for jimin to feature on a song by a r*pist turned into “you can’t have an opinion because you’re a rap line stan.”
i’m most certainly not perfect. i try to do the right thing. but tumblr has turned into a place where you will get bullied off the site if someone does not like you personally and decides you’re the internet’s villain of the day. you are put into situations you cannot win. if you defend yourself, you’re making excuses. if you don’t, you’re guilty and all those things people accused you of being are true.
it is literally this tweet:
this is not a fandom known for being welcoming of discourse, but we have to be able to give others grace. there has to be nuance. like, we are literally stanning bts, who have done and said and written problematic things. we should not excuse intentionally harmful behavior, but we need to be able to have conversations and believe, to a certain extent, that not everyone behaves in malicious ways.
we all fuck up and will continue to do so. i hope your mistakes are handled with grace and you are given the benefit of the doubt, and i hope you extend that grace when others inevitably make mistakes as well.
i am not involved in drama here. i am 31 years old and too old and tired. i just want to write and cry over seokjin and shitpost with my friends.
i’m sure this has all been said before, but: i was offline at the time everything went down with m (shout-out the fucking car accident i got in on my way to pick up my friends from the airport, why did this seemingly happen to everyone??) but they are someone i have interacted with both here and offline, and how all of that played out was fucked up, to say the least. others have explained it far more eloquently than me, but it bears repeating.
so while i love writing and i love sharing my work, there is a part of me that’s anxious every time i post. including this. i will continue to do so and hope that this site becomes warmer and more welcoming, because i see a lot of posts lamenting writers leaving or deactivating, and i just think: “well, yeah.”
enough has been said about interaction and the like/reblog ratio, which is definitely a huge part. it can be demoralizing to spend so much time and effort writing a fic that gets little interaction. but the environment is a big part, too, and i’m hopeful that can change.
(but also—protect your peace, whatever that means for you. unfollow that person. block that tag. you don’t have to engage with everything, especially if it raises your blood pressure. one of the few good things about the internet is that you’re largely able to curate your experience. don’t feel guilty about taking advantage of that.)
i will finish this by saying: i am always open to having conversations so long as they’re in good faith. it is not anyone’s place to police my behavior, but if i ever do or say something that is not cool, you are more than welcome to address it with me. i encourage you to do so. as flor once said: comfort can’t help me grow up.
love u all. pls be nice to one another. 🖤

Rick Conroy's Recent Rentals:
Teen Wolf (1/2/3)
As a refresher, this is a shot from 4x02: Vecna's Curse. Robin, Max, Dustin and Steve are using the video store's database to look through the most recent rentals of all the Ricks in town as hints for which one Reefer Rick is, so that they can get his address and track down Eddie.
Unfortunately for them, this selection here from Rick Conroy didn't give off 'reefer' vibes and so they moved on to the next one.
However, luckily for us, this could very well have been hinting at events that are either already happening in s4, or are perhaps still yet to fully come to fruition in s5.
2. Teen Wolf (1985)
This is easy/hard because although it could be fairly simple, it could also be complex, to the point where it may very well go even further than this film. So I guess I'll just humor the implications, both simple and complex, because why not.
The entire plot of Teen Wolf revolves around a protagonist who is tired of being average, only to find out that he's actually the opposite of average: a frickin' werewolf.
There are a lot of possibilities for where elements of this film could align with certain concepts in the show. I even feel like it could be related to a specific arc on the most basic level (ie. Sixteen Candles = Birthdaygate).
Ironically, something I also noticed related to this, is that in the same episode we get the Rick selection with Teen Wolf, we also see the poster for it in the exact same spot as the Sixteen Candles poster was at the end of s3. We even see the letters ARC(ADE) in the right corner of the frame for both (probably just a coincidence, but a cool one at that).
Notice the pole going straight through the Teen Wolf poster here? More on that later...
Initially, I was going to just associate this film with the storyline related to the basketball team, because we do see a prominent arc related to basketball in s4, and so that felt like an easy way to pinpoint that reference?
However, I did feel sort of inclined to dig deeper, and this is because the other two films from this specific Rick selection connects to Will's character more than any of the other characters arguably.
Basically, after being stumped with the Teen Wolf mention, and intending to just stick with the simplicity of how the reference could apply to s4, I moved on to Romancing the Stone, only to find out it screamed Will, and so a part of me began wondering if it could be more complex than it seems when it comes to this reference.
And so, what exactly would Teen Wolf (1985) have to do with Will and his present/future arc, assuming that these three movies are indeed related to his character?...
Well, Twelvegate.
Just take a look at the film's slogan at the top of the movie poster:
He always wanted to be special. But he never expected this!
Upon rewatching this scene I also noticed there are twelve Ricks total...
As many of you probably know, there has been a decent amount of imagery with Will's blocking being obstructed by rods/poles/stakes, etc. (ie. Phineas Gage). So the fact that a pole interferes with the poster for TW could also be intentional in its attempt to give it some association to Will.
Here are the several other shots we get of the TW poster in this same episode:
I remember so much discourse about how this shot above was foreshadowing Max's confrontation with Vecna, which I do still fully believe to be the case. However, now I'm also rethinking about how that claw representing Venca looks just a little too aligned with the TW poster to not at least be a little bit intentional...
Look at Dustin and Max's bikes! They're blue/yellow directly in front of the poster!
And that's that on that!!
Though, if I’m being honest, this all still felt a little too simple to me.
The poster with Michael J. Fox opening up his shirt to reveal the title Teen Wolf also reminded me of the official reveal that Vecna was 001? Where the UD vines sort of scatter to reveal the number on his wrist...?
While it could be relevant as a potential hint for Will only now discovering as a teen that he has powers/is connected to the lab, similar to the protagonist of Teen Wolf only now discovering as a teen that he is a werewolf, I still want to try to take it another step further.
Now, going back to the basketball plot in s4, because I do think there still could be some connections between the show and the basketball theme in the film, is that there's actually a really layered connection to Teen Wolf going on here. And it has very me intrigued.
Although, this connection can be easily overlooked, as it's not related to the 1985 version, but actually the 2011 drama series, loosely based on the 1985 version, which goes by the same name...
As it turns out, Mason Dye’s most notable role before he was cast as Jason Carver in s4 of Stranger Things, was his role as Garrett in s4 of Teen Wolf.
So I guess the casting department decided to typecast tf out of Mason, by giving him the role of a character in a storyline potentially inspired by elements from the movie Teen Wolf? A role which also happens to be almost identical to his role in the series Teen Wolf?
Jason Carver character description in Stranger Things: popular basketball player ends up hunting down Hellfire Club (ALSO peep his #12 jersey... yep.)
Garrett character description in Teen Wolf: popular lacrosse player ends up hunting down Scott's pack
This also reminded me of the Duffer's talking about the casting of Amybeth McNulty. For those who don't know, Amybeth starred in Anne with an E (2017-2019), which is a drama series based on the book Anne of Green Gables (1908). There's also a well known TV mini-series based on said book which came out in 1985. After casting for Vickie was announced, the Duffers revealed that they were fans of the AOGG book and the mini series as kids (which is why the book was referenced in the show a few times), but also made a point to add that they were big fans of AWAE.
This is interesting to me because I feel like TW and AWAE are the kind of shows that have a bad rep (mostly deserved for TW atp), but specifically because of how they present themselves on the surface?
Werewolf teens and a talkative red-haired girl in braids don't exactly scream quality TV to most people? Which like, fair enough. Not to mention, both adaptations were based on stories that were very popular in the 80's, being modernized for future audiences. And so a lot of people hated them for that reason alone, without even giving them a second glance.
However, within the context of the Duffers, who are well known film nerds, who literally watch anything and everything under the sun, I think it's possible (and even likely) they watched Teen Wolf the series.
Arguably, TW's most impressive narrative moments come from season 3b. Which interestingly enough brings us back to the main focus I had for this post, which is how exactly this could all relate to Will.
Answer?
Will being possessed by the Mind Flayer is EXTREMELY void-Stiles coded:
Void-Stiles is easily recognized as one of the strongest arcs in the entire series, and for good reason. S3b season truly tested the limits of Dylan O'Brien's talent, along with a lot of other elements in the show just really hitting the mark that season. The story-building, the vibes, and the acting from the cast overall was pretty good, making it well regarded as a fan favorite (sound familiar?).
At first it starts with Stiles sacrificing himself, essentially dying for a short period of time, only to come back to life, but to have also left a door open in his mind. This door (ajar) makes Stiles vulnerable to the Nogitsune (an evil spirit that feeds off of chaos, strife and pain), who of course takes advantage and attaches to Stiles.
Slowly, Stiles starts experiencing an inability to focus, sleepwalking, vivid dreams during the day, while also not being able to tell the difference between dreams and reality. Eventually this leads to the Nogitsune gaining control, who then starts to have more influence on Stiles' behavior, leading him to trick his loved ones around him into believing that it's him by acting like Stiles at times, when really it's the Nogitsune. He uses Stiles' body as a vessel to wreak havoc on the town of Beacon Hills, but also specifically Stiles friends/family.
He even goes as far as to make Stiles do things like twist a sword into his best friends chest, then finally detaches himself from Stiles' body only to in that very same moment kidnap Lydia (his love interest), and ending in a battle with him orchestrating the attempted murder of an entire floor of a hospital, along with successfully killing a beloved main character.
While I do think it's possible we could see some similarities between these storylines here (we arguably already have), something I realized a while back when researching for birthdaygate, was that it did remind me a great deal of Stiles' arc in s6a of TW.
What makes this arc kind of ironic in the context of this post, is that there are some parallels to Back to the Future...
Basically everyone forgets Stiles existed, to the point where he's completely erased from reality, including photographs (Back to the Future reference). Other details about him, like his name and his connection to the people around him, is what plays a big part in his return (including radios being used between realms to communicate with him... yep).
As it's happening, Stiles starts going up to everyone he knows, first casual friends, and slowly down the line to people that mean the most to him. Suddenly his best friend doesn't know him, then his dad, finally the only person left who remembers him is Lydia, only for him to be taken and for everyone to forget (including Lydia). And this was basically the big cliffhanger that closed off the first episode of the season, with it being a guiding force to them getting Stiles back in the following episodes.
Now, I just want to make it clear that I do NOT think that this is how s5 is going to play out, like barely, if at all.
My main purpose for this post was to look at the simple and complex in relation to this reference and how it could relate to what is to come, in any shape/form.
Like, we know they draw a lot of inspiration from Star Wars and Lord of the Rings (along with 100+ films and more). And yet still, that doesn't mean we're expecting the show to play out exactly like it does in those stories.
What we're expecting is some inspiration & parallels.
S5 is said to be drawing a lot of inspiration from s1-2, which are two seasons most tied to Wills disappearance and possession.
Clearly in the case of this reference, there are A LOT of possibilities for what this could be hinting at related to Will's arc in particular.
I'm excited, but also terrified to find out what...!
#byler#stranger things#movie inspo#twelvegate#teen wolf (1985)#teen wolf (2011)#ALSO I love how Michael J Fox is just chilling in all these layered references going on here related to Will#just wait until we get to romancing the stone...#also I have a theory that the duffers were big tw stans pre-downfall#that it plays a small part in why they insist on not going past 5 seasonns... bc they don't want their show to go downhill either#they've seen tw and dozens of other shows go from impressive to unwatchable#TW has gotta be the biggest example of this in recent years#i'm not even talking unliked endings#i'm talking UNWATCHABLE endings#i feel like the duffers set themselves apart bc as time went on they actually clued their cast in on the overall series arcs/plans/ending#which made it easier for the cast to stay as opposed to leaving around s3/4#with the creator of teen wolf he kind of is just allowing the show to go on forever and ever#and so he's sort of been forced to work around the casts desire to even continue participating#and so ever since they lost the bulk of their cast but especially dylan obrien (the heart of the show)#it just become unwatchable#like imagine ST losing gaten but just continuing to roll out new seasons???#i don't want to imagine it. it would suck. it simply wouldn't be stranger things anymore#and that's also why i think the duffers refuse to kill of their mains for shock value#bc everyone knows the less og characters you have as the seasons go on#the more the show becomes a shell of its former self and what used to make it so good in the first place:#it's fucking characters#i can guarantee you after s5 that this is the end of these characters story forever...#and i'll be fine with that!

I’m gonna be honest we are tired of people saying Flamberge and Francisca are sisters in a familial sense. When it’s not canon, it is fanon. Their relationship is left ambiguous.
Also just because they were both raised by Hyness doesn’t equal they are sisters. People need to stop equating raised by same person = siblings.
I mean biggest example of this is a very popular canon lesbian pairing.
Do not say Catradora is incest, there is no way in hell a tv show for children is going to make the main couple incestuous. Just like Fran and Berge these two were also raised by a cult leader.
Yes they are referred to as mage sisters, but nuns address each other as sister. We are not saying you can’t hc them as familial, because by all means go ahead. Just please stop insisting that everyone in the fandom must view and interpret them the same, or they will be ostracized, don’t fall into cult like mentality like these lesbos did.
If the pairing makes you that uncomfortable blacklisting, and the block button exist. There is no need to make call out posts when it comes to shipping discourse, it’s cruel and completely unnecessary. Most of all don’t jump to conclusions when people like certain ships, it doesn’t always equate that they are a proshipper. I’ve seen it too many times, and in most cases the person in question just has a different interpretation of the pairing that’s considered “controversial.”
We know we can’t control how people will perceive us, and we don’t want to. If you think I’m a freak for liking these ships go right ahead. I’m tired of acting like FranFlam isn’t cute and that it’s a bad pairing.

Hey, I'm going to be a tad bit ranty, and this by no means is targeting anybody but-
I am getting tired of some Zelink shippers on the internet man.
Like, I get it. It's a pretty darn cute ship and in some cases I love it to peices (Skyward Sword and Spirit Tracks Zelink my beloveds), but I swear some of us are straight up insane.
They go out of their way to beat down anybody who doesn't only ship Zelink or completely despise other female characters because it gets in the way of the "correct ship". Seriously I cant be the only one to notice the pure hate Ilia gets because she's another one of Link's love interests. Like, I get it, seeing ships you don't like is annoying, but to harp about how only one is right and above the rest is plan stupid. In some cases it doesn't even make sense, like for TP, but if you dare mention it it's as if you insulted their mother 🙄.
And don't even get me started on the homophobia. They act as if Link kissing a man or Zelda kissing a woman will send them into a coma.
I really like this community, but the shipping discourse is atrocious and trying to find somebody who also likes Zelink but isn't insane is difficult and if I mention I like it people are afraid I'm one of the crazy ones too. It's disheartening and is the reason why I don't even dare go onto Zelda Twitter anymore despite the amazing artist.
Sorry about the rant, but I really had to get this off my chest because I had the misfortune of stumbling upon somebody here doing the exact thing that ran me off of Twitter 🤦♀️.
I’m sorry you’ve had a bad online experience with that, I luckily haven’t had too much of that happen around me
I understand why people ship Link and Zelda in all the games, and while I personally don’t, I don’t disagree with people who do. I think it’s a bit insane (/pos) of nintendo to not really confirm anything and leave everything up to the player’s interpretation, and the best part about that is that we don’t have to ship Link and Zelda in every game. There are so many other great ships in the games! And yeah, homophobia is really disheartening and I hate to see it happen in fandoms I care so much about as a queer person myself. Personally every single version of Link gives me queer vibes in some way, and seeing people being so outright homophobic makes me sad.
Keep shipping who you like, as long as it isn’t problematic 🫶🫶🫶 The best advice I can give it to try not to let others ruin a fandom you enjoy, I just block homophobes when I see them

Do me a favor and quit reblogging mah shit. I’m tired of hearing your shitass opinions and you’re not doing anything but pissing me off. (And you’re def not doing much more than repeating the same tired points.) If that was your goal, then cool! Goal achieved now leave me alone. If your goal was to convince me or turn me to your side, you have failed and will never succeed so cool, please stop 👍 anyways one of your proship goons (or should I say gooners lmaoo) reblogged it too, so thx for effectively spreading my blog into a community I didn’t want it in in the first place. If I could go back in time and not tag it with “proship” to keep your vile community from finding me, I would, but time travel does not exist </3. Im used to social media where reblogging doesn’t exist so I genuinely expected none of you to find that post. Anyways bye and have a very leave me the fuck alone. Tbh I think all this exchange has done is make me double down on disliking yall mfs 💀💀💀
The block button is right there dude! You can block me and I won’t be able to reblog it. And it doesn’t give me the opportunity to publish this ask and argue back which I will do now because you STILL don’t get it.
This was never about converting you, I don’t care that you disagree about SHIP discourse of all things. I care that you keep applying terms made for actual victims to come foreword and share what has happened to them without being graphic and are applying them, levelling their experiences… to fictional depictions and expressions that you personally find gross. So while I’m sorry your blog and initial comment got posted with my commentary onto a community you don’t want, you can just… delete the post and people won’t be able to find you in either the tags or your blog.
At the very least edit your tags so they aren’t STILL on there if you want less engagement from people you don’t like.

violence!: 4, 14, 22
4. what was the last straw that made you finally block that annoying person?
If we’re talking about my most recent block, it was on Reddit where the dude tried to argue gender essentialism at me. Basically, he asserted that my call to write women like people was bullshit and that women should be written like women (weak and helpless). Yeah, I did not and do not have the emotional bandwidth to deal with that shit.
Even better though, when other people in the thread brought up Ellen Ripley as an example of where a role was originally written for a man but Sigourney Weaver was cast instead. The dude then stated he had never watched any of the Alien movies, but he read the Wikipedia article on Ripley and assumed she must be a boring and poorly written character because she was a woman.
Yeah, dude … delete your fucking account. All of your accounts, everywhere.
Tumblr blocks? Yeah, it was the Nth blog that posted the TOG van speech verbatim and declared JoeNicky to be the most perfect thing ever. Went into the blog, found their AO3, blocked that, then blocked their Tumblr. Because clearly this person and I have nothing to say to each other, and I’m tired and I get petty when I’m tired.
14. that one thing you see in fics all the time
Making the bottom in an m/m ship extremely feminized, sometimes straight up infantilized. This isn’t to say there aren’t feminine gay dudes in RL, because there are. I’m talking about fan works.
I don’t know if it’s out of ignorance, sexism, misogyny, or just boring-ass heteronormativity, this idea that someone has to be the “girl” in a same-sex pairing. And every time I see it, I’m reminded of this little cartoon:
I don’t really get top/bottom discourse and especially the need to assign specific personality traits to the top or the bottom. It was something I set out to not do in my m/m Bessimu fics. I wanted to write them as equals, and I think I succeeded.
(FWIW, I see Bessimu as both being switches, because that’s more fun. I also find it hot to write Bessières as a power bottom dom and Murat as the submissive service top, and it’s not what one would expect when judging them by their public personas.)
22. your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores
From The Old Guard? Those three and a half thousand years that Andy spent alone as the only immortal on the planet (as far as anyone knows).
I’ve been wanting to explore that period and, yes, it’s fucking intimidating. Historical documentation is more miss than hit once you start going back to certain points in human history.
Three and a half thousand years is a really fucking long time. What did Andy do, where did she go? What did she see? There’s a lot of potential to mine there, and maybe I’ll do it someday.
For the Napoleonics? Joseph Fouché is a fucking amoral bastard, but I think people forget he tried to save Marshal Ney. Ney, being Ney, was either politically naive, stubborn, and/or he just wanted to fucking die already when he refused Fouché’s offer of fake papers and an passport to sneak out of France in the aftermath of Napoleon’s second abdication.
(I’ve also read that Laurent de Gouvion St. Cyr was the one who offered the passport and papers, so take the above with the proverbial grain of salt. St. Cyr did vote for exile in the final trial, which lends weight to that too.)
I also have a shitload of question marks around Bessières’ final years and the way it gets treated by academics, but that may be better off in a post of its own.
For Star Trek ... no one ever really talks about what kind of influence Sisko might have had on the Bajorans other than just being the Emissary/Space Jesus. Like, did baseball become a national sport and baseball leagues spring up all over the planet? Is there ticky-tacky Emissary merchandise one can purchase, like humans have in real life of the Pope?
(Sisko did show up on a pack of Bajoran tarot cards in Lower Decks, and I squealed over that, ngl.)
Thanks for asking! 😘

Category is: Religious discourse with Papa Emeritus the Third
Chapter 5 of my long fic Character interaction is my fucking meat and potatoes my guy. I hope you enjoy religious discourse as much as I do. TW: Religious topics, vaccines, trumpet and heinous flirting
Before note: Our reader is a painter commissioned by the clergy to paint a portrait of Papa. They have recently been stabbed in the arm but have chosen not to involve the church because they want to get the work done and get out of there. They are also trying to keep Papa at arm’s length by playing a game of assumptions with eachother.
Chapter 5 - Blocking in
“You okay, caro Pittore?” He was watching you set up, leaned on the desk to the side, “You seem tired. You up all night partying without me, huh?”
It had been a couple days since your first session, and for some reason, sleep eludes those on a hit list. Contrary to what the detective might have said, finding the wounded asshole in the ghoul mask was not easy. You’d heard nothing about the case. You’d grown increasingly glad you had decided to keep the blade that was then sitting in your backpack feet away. The town was beginning to creep you out. It had the atmosphere of a Lovecraft novel, signs, symbols—Jesus chrimany! there were so many fucking churches for such a small town. Made you wonder if you should be drinking the tap water.
“Mm, yeah, late night working on commissions and an uncomfortable motel room bed.”
“Oh, so I'm not your only one?” He piqued a brow.
“Oh no, the others I do through the phone. Sit, Papa,” you smirked, stretched out your fingers, and gingerly patted your shoulder.
“You know there is a remedy to your uncomfortable motel bed. It's called ‘mine’.” He grinned and took his time to sit and arrange himself for you.
“Wow, we are starting out early today,” you mused, grabbing your brush.
“Hey, you uh, caught me off guard last time, you could say. And today, I am on top of my game.”
“Oh? Is that so?” You looked around the scene, feeling his eyes on you as you worked, “I’m blocking today; you don’t have to be super still again, just colours. It's kinda like a camera beginning to focus, going to be fuzzy for a while.”
“I have an answer for my question last time.”
“Oh, and which question would that be?” You begin mixing at your pallet, and the stretch of oil paint begins to rekindle.
“Why you began painting.”
You cocked your head with intrigue.
“You fell in love with someone so beautiful you wanted to capture them eternally.”
“Oh, Papa, I didn't take you for a romantic~” you chuckled.
“Do I not? Passion is an original fucking sin, old as time. To love something more than god, heh?” He shook a finger and clicked his tongue.
“Tell me about this love, woman, man, or other? Paint me a picture, Papa,” you smirked, testing his open-mindedness, but realised your hand was beginning to shake. They had been doing that since the attempt. Your left hand was being useless in all ways, too. You tried to loosen your shoulder, only to feel the pain of seven stitches.
“Hmmm, she was a… gymnast, flexible.”
“You know I made her use it,” you chirped along as you worked through your world coming loose.
He made a growl of agreement. “She was going to be an athlete, and though you originally fell in love with her, you then realised you fell more in love with painting her. So when you got into the most prestigious university in your home country, and she was to be in the Olympics, you tried long distance until you both inevitably let go. And that is the story of your long lost Lenoir.”
You realised your hands had stopped shaking to listen to him. You huffed a soft laugh, “I still dream of her, my Lenoir. I wonder if she even thinks of me these days.”
“It would be very fucking hard to forget you, caro Pittore,” He growled.
“Yikes, Papa, you’ll have me blushing,” you laughed off easily, brushing away his compliment, “And you? Any heartbreak in your midsts?”
“You tell me, Pittore.”
And you understood. He was saying it was a two-way street. If he couldn't know about you, he wouldn't let you in either. You respected it. “One word, Jeremy.” You were then more curious, figuring out how fruity Papa was.
He broke his pose for a moment to clutch his heart, “Ooft, tell me of my sweet Jeremy.” He returned to his position. You were always acutely aware of his hand placement on his thigh.
“You met him on a field trip with your satanic college(?).. yeah, if you can say catholic college, satanic college is correct,” you decided to yourself. He seemed quietly amused, “Multiple colleges, skill building. Your college hated his and visa versa, but you met him during…tug of war. You tripped over a stray ball from the field, and you both landed in a tangle.”
“Uh, huh, I like where this is going. Ah~ take me now Jeremy~” he made a lewd face.
“Cupid slapped you both; this is before when you believed in fate.”
“Nice callback,” he nodded along.
“It was meant to be, you know? But he kept getting caught up in the dogma of his college hating your college. Kept pulling away while simultaneously telling you that he loved you; really confusing shit, you deserve better, Papa.”
“Why does this one fucking hurt?” He laughed.
“Like a fool, you stayed until he finally had his fill of you, and then you returned to being your mother’s footrest.”
“Ah, look at us, so tragic. A miracle two people so fucking broken could find each other, si Pittore?”
“Let us cling onto each other forevermore, create a safe corner to lick each other's wounds. Us against the world, I will fix you, and you fix me.” You chuckled at the toxic nature of it all. You reflected on the story you made for him and frowned at yourself, taking a sip of water. Part of that was your experience with Rhea. Inspiration didn’t always come from nowhere; could he have done the same with some of his stories for you? No, you weren’t dissecting it. You would leave as strangers.
His eyes had also darkened. “Enough of heartbreak,” he waved off, almost forgetting he was still supposed to be posing for you. You saw... hurt, just a brief moment of it. You left a mark on his cheek in paint.
“Look at me, Papa,” you said, only realising your wording after—suddenly breaking off any of his notions.
“I am,” he said simply, and he became still.
You blocked in the square of his jaw. You watched the slight rise and fall of his chest, the slight shift of his painted lips and the bob of his throat swallowing. His eye, the white one, for the first time, you wondered if it was natural. The way he looked at you, you wondered how much of you he was seeing. “Beautiful,” you said to signal that he could relax again.
“Yes,” he said quietly but couldn't find any more words. He became tranquil, thoughtful. “Yes.”
You sipped your water, hands becoming clammy again, your attention shifting to the ghoul’s mask beneath his foot. You cursed yourself for squinting to see any signs of red powder.
“I… find myself wanting to talk to you, but I am… unsure how to talk without asking questions,” he admitted after a while.
“I can understand that,” you said softly, “I’m happy to discuss discourse, news… just nothing in personal history,” you shrugged, “I imagine we have wildly different world views, it could be interesting.”
“Discourse, huh? Hard questions, then how do you feel about the church, what with all your religious trauma and all?” He grinned, showing his teeth. It seemed he wanted to see you squirm because he was Papa. Because he is the head of the church.
You bit your tongue in thought, “Are we going to stay friends after this one?” You wondered out loud, giving him a cheeky look.
“We are friends, Pittore?”
You shrugged, “friendly?” You supposed. “Let's see,” you began blocking in the shapes of his gown; it would be challenging because the fabric ripples would change the next time. You would have to take a photo of this moment to rearrange him the best you could. You aimed up your phone. “I think faith is beautiful,” You said simply.
“I know what you mean—I sense a but.”
After taking some snaps, you returned to painting. “But,” you began, and Papa smiled, egging you on. “Churches are often… bad translations of original stories, people put their own spins on things, and teachings that are often good in theory can get distorted in any which way. Not to mention the hypocrisy…”
“Hypocrisy?” He arched a brow.
You hadn't looked at his face in a moment; you'd been on a roll. You hadn’t realised it, but though the discourse wasn't about you—it was a core belief. It was you. “Ah, it doesn't matter what I think.” You waved off in an effort to shove yourself back in the box.
“No, no, this interests me; I can see the hypocrisy in other churches, that makes sense to me, they fucking lie for control, make eternal promises for money, praise the elite, it's… but I cannot see it in my own.”
You ran your tongue over your teeth; you suggested discourse because you liked going in. But there was a struggle with wanting to keep Papa at arm's reach; then again, this might help with that. It might just frighten him away. “You told me about free will; that's a core Satanic belief, right?”
“Si.” He nodded fervently.
“and I haven't seen inside your church, so this is partly the assumptions game on my behalf, alright?”
“Si,” and he remembered he was supposed to keep still.
“You can relax your skull hand again, by the way,” You added absently. “I don't believe free will can exist within an established hierarchy because there can only be one Papa, correct?”
“You are correct.” He frowned lightly as he placed the skull down to stretch out his leathery fingers. His brow was almost always slightly downturned; beneath that makeup, you would guess they were nice eyebrows. You painted in a little gesture of them.
“What if it's another’s will to become Papa?”
“I supposed they cannot, but we treat everyone equally,” he debated, “it is our vow to protect the free will of others…” he explained, and it took a lot of him not to move his hands. You watched the fingers of his right-hand flicker on his thigh.
“I'm painting your other hand now,” you advised, “does ‘Papa’ come with power over others? Does it encroach on their free will?”
“I, of course, am trying not to, you know, it's very fucking important to me.”
“Then does that encroach on yours?”
You watched him beginning to unfold a little.
“There is a silent expectation in the church. This portrait wasn’t your will; it was the will of the church.”
“It is my will that the church is sated in all ways possible,” he said so with a purr of confidence as he relaxed into his conviction.
“And what about my will, hmm? As someone not a part of the church?”
“Oh, your will? What is your will, dear child?”
“What if…” you had a think, “What if I want to be Papa?”
“I can call you Papa if you would like; not sure it would be recognised.”
“You'd call me Papa?” Your smile twisted.
“Of course, Papa,” he raised his chin with a half-lidded smirk.
“Feels like you did that on purpose.”
“I don't know what you mean~”
“And if I want to wear your pope-hat?”
“That would deny my free will because it is my fucking mitre.”
“You don't want to give me your pope-hat?”
“No, you disrespect it. You call it fucking ‘pope-hat’.” His chin jutted out slightly.
“Fine, you acknowledge some power play here, so can anyone hold a sermon?”
“It's true; the cardinals, sisters, and I are the only ones who generally hold mass.”
“What, everyone else's voices don’t matter?” You were teasing.
“All voices matter.. unless they're fucking stupid, like trumpet.” He growled ‘trumpet’, “I don’t think we’ve ever been asked.”
“So, if it was my free will to hold a sermon?” You arched a brow.
“Then, as someone who upholds free will, I make it happen.”
“What if I want to make it about Jesus Christ riding a donkey, in the literal sense? Or inflated Christian fan fiction teachings?” You were just having fun with him at that point.
“Then that wouldn't be very fucking respectful to the free will of the church, would it?”
“And if it was my free will to be disrespectful?” You grinned.
“Then you would be a fucking brat,” you don't know when he started breathing deeper. His usual growl hindered on a groan.
“No, Papa, it wouldn't,” you shook your head, and he tilted his. “Brats like the idea of someone who’d tame them or try to. That hinders my freedom; why would I want that? I want someone whose free will aligns with mine to run wild and free like a twin flame that burns the sky. I want no hierarchy.” Your cheeks flushed, and you reminded yourself you only painting a portrait.
He was biting his lip, “is it still your will to hold a sermon?”
“Only because I don’t think Sister Imperator would allow it,” you chuckled behind your canvas.
“Sister? But I am fucking Papa,” he frowned.
“Go on then, Papa, show me what free will is worth,” you stuck your head out and challenged with a smirk.
He shook a finger at you, “I will make this happen. I will show you my church isn't hypocritical.. or it's trying not to be,” he amended.
“On that note, how many women or people of colour have been Papa?”
He made a fizzling noise, “Fuck. alright, alright, we are a forward church but there are things that still need addressing, yes. We already celebrate the female orgasm, but I happen to also like the idea of a woman of colour being my fucking Papa,” he informed unabashedly. “Things are fucking sticky sometimes. If you want to go there, where do vaccinations sit with your absolute ‘free will’. Huh?”
“Hey, you're a church; that’s more of a you thing.”
“So you have no answer?” He looked pleased with himself.
“Well, like your free will is your ‘mitre’, free will is also a person’s health. To endanger another person’s health is to take away their free will, yeah? Vaccinations are for the populis as well as the individual. Get jabbed.”
“I hate how fucking quick that was for you. But spoken like a true Papa of the church.”
“I studied philosophy and art at university,” you explain, absently filling in the chair’s golden form.
“I see why you have problems with the church. Did you really not grow up in a heavy catholic boarding school?” He asked without realising.
“Catholic college, because it was the only school in town. It wasn't particularly traumatising, but it did cordon off some ways of thinking until later in life. Also, incense reminds me of taking naps in forced mass,” you answered without thinking before touching your lips as if to take it back.
“Fuck, I apologise,” he began.
“It's okay…I started it,” you ended and looked away to the sun as it began to dip.
“No, it isn’t. I… I uh, understand there are times it is scary to let new people in. We didn’t meet at the right time.”
“That’s…” you shook your head and sighed, disengaging with the conversation. “I really didn't get very far again.” You looked over your work, “I can put more hours in the background before I see you again….”
“I want to be here for it,” he said stubbornly, “and before you say another fucking thing about underpaying you… I think you're being too nice.”
You began washing and whacking your brushes to the drop sheets below. “Too nice?” Where was this coming from? “You can relax; we’ve run out of light for today, the downside to using natural light.”
He pulled himself out of the chair with a moan you pretended to not hear, “You could stand to be meaner. You just tore my church a new unholy hole; you did not fucking care whether I liked what you had to say or non. It was.. beautiful discourse. I see you care for big-world concepts but leave some care for yourself, too, Pittore. I see you working hard. You should take what you fucking deserve.”
He’d stunned you into fumbling for words before you could adequately hide again, “Is this a religious teaching from Papa Emeritus the Third himself?” You looked in mock surprise, covering up hurriedly in humour.
“Hey, I'm being fucking serious. Know your worth… I can see it. I, uh, found your Wikipedia page,” he looked sheepish before he stretched and looked away from you.
He sounded like Marie, and you also liked how his accent tackled 'Wikipedia page’. “Oh, did you now? What does it say about me~?”
“Ah, I didn't read much; I wanted to see your work. You are very impressive, caro Pittore.”
“Thank you,” you didn't let the compliment sink particularly deep. That would mean caring about Papa’s opinion, and you wouldn't allow yourself. You deliberated—fine, “I googled you too,” you peeked up from spraying your pallet to store in an airtight place.
He was smiling.
“I like your voice, Papa.”
Then he was grinning. “Grazie, Caro.”
You both stood there momentarily before remembering you were storing things.
He leaned against the desk and stretched out some more, which came with interesting hip movements. “We have a mass tonight; Cardinal Copia is taking it, so I didn’t have to prepare. I think you’d like him. He thinks entirely too fucking much, all the books and all the ‘discourse’... If you wanted to come…” he shrugged as if it made no difference.
“I…” and then you remembered your last nights of terror, of the endless dark. The nightmares of waking up to a man in a ghoul mask standing over you. Your left arm arched. You didn't particularly want to go back to your motel room. “Will there be nuns?”
He chuckled, “Yes, but I will keep them at bay. I am very talented at that sort of thing~”
“You know I wasn't kidding about the incense putting me to sleep?”
“I'm sure I could keep you awake all fucking night if you wanted me to,” he promised, voice low.
“How did you ever get so quick on your feet?” You laughed, pretending whatever he had to say had no effect on you whatsoever.
“I uh, practice rigorously.”
“Well, maybe I am curious to see what a black mass looks like; just how hypocritical could it be?”
“Then I am honoured to be a part of your first.”
You scrubbed your hands in the turps bucket. People think artists' hands are soft, but they’d be incorrect. Marie’s, maybe. You moved on to a rag, then would wash them in a bathroom when most convenient.
Papa had the look of someone wanting to look at your painting but knew he could not.
“Soon,” you promised.
“Not too soon, I hope,” he said honestly.
“You really are….” you sighed.
“Fucking brilliant, uh?”
“Not what I was going to say.”
“I need to change; I don’t want to upstage the cardinal.” He opened the door for you and stepped to the side.
“Oh, is the pope-dress too much for the event, am I overdressed then?” You lead out to the hallway and wait for him to show you the way.
“Pope-dress?!” He raises a finger to his lips, “This is a test; firstly, I'm happy to wear dresses. Secondly, this is not a fucking pope-dress. It's a chasuble, and before you say anything, this is not a ‘pope-scarf’; it is a pallium.”
You were just laughing at this point. “Oh, that so is a pope-scarf.”
“So fucking uncultured,” he chuckled and scanned over your smile. “Ah, looks like you need to get cleaned up too.” He reached for a moment but let his hand fall, “uh, your cheek has paint on it.”
“Oh? So does yours; I just wanted to fit in around here.” You made no move to get it; you'd deal with your appearance in a mirror.
“Ah, I see what you have done. Is it because you are the new Papa?”
“Exactly.” You gingerly touched your left shoulder in curiosity. It was hurting more than it had that morning, feeling hot. You might need to check you haven't split anything.

WOOHOO! 1, 4, 7, 8 and 16 for choose violence please! :D :D :D
I'm gonna go with ofmd for these because that's the one I have most opinions about right now (jsamn unfortunately populated only by impeccable content and delightful people, BOOOH).
This is also not going to be very bitchy, I apologise.
the character everyone gets wrong
Izzy, hands down see what i did there ehehehee, in particular the Izzy-Ed dynamic in a lot of fic. And I'm really not talking about stories where Izzy is a background asshole in an Ed/Stede romance and basically just a plot point; those are fine. But particularly in Izzy-centric and/or Calicohands fic I have actually had to filter out fic that had Ed in it on occasion because wow, have I seen some hot garbage there. I get that Izzy is a polarising character in general, but I really balk at fic that has to somehow paint him as Ed’s victim to make him worthy of sympathy? Excuse you, the man is a cunt, he’s insecure, cruel, and he is largely the architect of his own downfall at every turn, both because it’s a comedy and because it’s also baked into his insecurity complex. And I find that compelling, actually. I don’t need a fic explaining to me that, actually, Izzy has done nothing wrong and really, Ed is the cruel and manipulative control freak (???) to feel like Izzy deserves my sympathy as a reader. (And to be fair, the other side of the big Izzy-shaped chasm in the fandom isn’t much better because blegh, I get that you need a villain, but with the fervour with which some people out there are driving home the point that they think he’s The Worst Ever, they’re making Ed look like a hapless idiot in comparison, at the cost of plot and world-internal logic. And that is also BAD and I just can’t with that.)
Admittedly, some people have also gotten it deliciously right. So it’s not like everyone does it, but… you know.
(Conveniently, I have avoided writing that dynamic in detail altogether. Peace out. [Exit stage left atop high horse.])
4. what was the last straw that made you finally block that annoying person?
I haven’t actually ever blocked anyone for fandom reasons that I remember. The worst I’ve done in any fandom was unfollow people, and the spiciest reason I ever did that for was that they were reblogging a bit too much (read: any) discourse onto my dash.
I have one (1) person muted on AO3 though because they were clogging up a very dear tag with their content that was decidedly Not For Me. And I’m purposely not saying which fandom/tag it was because that tag isn’t busy and I’m not trying to start shit, so… yeah. Sorry, I’m very boring on that front. :P No, I promise it’s not you. That person will never see this post.
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how the fandom acts about them?
I think I’ve gotten pretty lucky with the (corners of) fandoms I’ve been in? idk. There’s always waves and trends of interpretation with characters and some are more my thing and some I grow tired of really fast, but I don’t think it’s ever affected my view or enjoyment of a character as such. But without trying to belabour the Izzy point above, I took several steps back from both writing and reading about him after being subjected to an avalanche of hot takes that just kind of killed the fun and the irreverent spirit of shaking the gremlin man for a good while for me.
8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
Idk about “common” fandom opinion, but it makes no sense for Ed to have a praise kink. His whole life consists of people telling him how great he is, and it doesn’t do anything for him? That being said, have I read and enjoyed fic in which Ed has a praise kink? Yes. Yes I have. Several. Repeatedly. And it will happen again.
Also, while we’re here: Stede is not a good parent. I get that it’s comfortable and tempting to make him into a father who cares deeply, especially in AUs, and it’s not like I actually mind it in fic either (I have the daddy issues too, ok), but canonically, he’s the kind of occasional fun dad who does zero actual parenting and is never there. And by the same token he and Mary wouldn’t be great friends after their divorce, either, because they’re still fundamentally different people who have nothing in common,. That’s not magically going to change just because they’re no longer married. And again: I have absolutely enjoyed fics where these things were front and center, but as a fandom, I think we’re a bit too prone to sand down Stede’s edges when it comes to his family.
16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
The problem with this question is that I can understand why people like something most of the time, regardless of whether I agree, lmao.
BUT: I have stuck my nose and sniffed around in a lot of nooks and crannies of the ofmd fandom, but I remain benevolently baffled by Stede/Izzy (without Ed). (again, “so many people” in a fandom of this size is… maybe a bit generous, but I’ve seen it often enough by now to have paused to go “???” at it, so I’m counting it.)
Thank you! <3 I'm sorry I couldn't be more ranty. I swear, I'm usually a huge bitch about things.

"you see i find this hilarious because my boyfriend insisted the other day that (with a few exceptions, as per his words, referring to the astarionwives) this fandom was “wholesome”. 😂 i am squinting my eyes v hard at that statement" Okay, I should've clarified my statement because I was too actually referring to the Astarionwives mostly and I say this as someone who likes and…actually romanced him in my first playthrough, which is something I'm quite wary to admit nowadays out of fear of being lumped with his crazier fans lmao. A lot of them can be really, really intense about the guy and NOT in a good way and tbh most of my negative experiences in the fandom are indeed related to this crowd. He really is the type of character that is a magnet for discourse and I have to say that ignoring a majority of his fans can make your fandom experience much more enjoyable, ESPECIALLY if you do like him, as crazy as this may sound. Sure, some of them will be making you laugh in the sense that it takes a high level of delusion to come up with certain takes but most will just make you lowkey angry. They are also very numerous and extremely loud compared to fans of other characters, who (with some exceptions here and there) are quite chill. Every other day though there's some Astarion related drama going on or his fans trying to stir some shit up and it's so tiring. Frankly, I have more Astarion fans blocked than fans of other BG3 characters put together and this is saying a lot. In my opinion, they are crazier than Aemondwives, Aegonwives and Daemonwives and lots of Team Black or Targ Nation stans.
It's not that they will attack other fans for not liking his character (well, some are doing it, I won't deny it) but they also often rabidly attack each other for having different interpretations of his character, even when there's enough information in canon to support more than one POV or theory. There are also some choices (one of them being pivotal or very, very important) you can make involving his character that can be very controversial or divisive and insane fans on all sides of the debate will try to shame others for (not) making them and proceed to call you or imply you are a bad person irl over it. Typical fandom "my opinion is the moral or correct one" bs, but in this case it's particularly wild since it's a RPG game with no established canon. Still, there's nothing that could justify going after a real person, in the end it's just a video game and no one is bad for making a certain choice or not. Of course this is mostly subjective and there are some nuances I can't get into due to spoilers, but I feel like overall a lot of the BG3 fandom experience depends on what characters you like since it's likelier you'll be checking out and interacting with the parts of the fandom related to them specifically so yeah someone else may have had a quite positive experience in the fandom unlike me and others, like your bf did (to his credit, Shadowives are quite sane compared to Astarionwives and I have nothing negative to say about most of them).
Other than that, there are of course antis who just like in every fandom (and I've seen it happening here like it did with HOTD) are harassing, threatening or trying to dox content creators or even regular fans who are into things deemed to be toxic and problematic (noncon, dubcon stuff mostly) despite the game itself having and/or offering you the possibility to do a lot of fucked up things. In this regard they remind me of the HOTD antis who will cry out about incest ships whilst going after fans who enjoy them in fiction. Well, maybe don't consume media with problematic elements that make you uncomfortable? But of course to them it's more about being the fandom moral police rather than genuine concern about potential victims seeing the wrong content.
"oh thank you so much! ikr?? i’m gonna give astarion 18 DEX as soon as i can level him up anyway so why bother? i was really vehement to dump the stat altogether, because i was thinking there was nothing in it FOR ME as a wizard, but then i realised i’m really getting pounded in fights because of my low dexterity!!" In my experience the game's AI will first target the characters with the lowest AC (armour class) and those are usually the spellcasters like wizards or sorcerers. Until you get those gloves and a good shield, Mage Armor should help in early game to get that number a bit higher. It does cost a spell slot, but it's worth it.
"yeah, i’m really set on having high charisma because my hope is to manipulate these rugrats into doing what i want. but the wisdom checks have proven annoying, i have to say. and i don’t really want to be dragging shadowheart with me all the time because… i can’t stand her! 😂 my bf is a shadowwife and keeps telling me to be patient with her but she is just getting on my nerves 🤌i respecc’d her to be a Life Cleric and she is more useful now, at the very least. " As a sorcerer (it also applies to other charisma based classes like bards or warlocks) it was sooo easy to navigate throughout the game thanks to this and how easy it is to manipulate NPCs into doing your bidding, plus you get so many bonuses that by the end of the game that it's almost impossible to fail your CHA rolls. I can't say I relate to your experience with Shadowheart but…sometimes we just happen not to like certain characters, which is fine? Your boyfriend may be right about being patient with her to be honest, I wasn't crazy about her in my first playthrough (but unlike you also I didn't dislike her so that helps) but she grew up on me as a character quite a bit throughout the game. Same with Lae'zel and more or less with Astarion as well, ironically. Turning Shadowheart into a Life Cleric is also something I did and she's indeed more useful unlike her default Trickster subclass. Light Cleric is also a good option for her (or any cleric), which is what I'm going for in my second playthrough.
"exciting!! i wouldn’t know where to put it exactly, though, since i read online that having odd numbers is not really giving you a bonus in bg3" Yes, this is true, odd numbers don't give you any bonuses. You should either put that point into an odd number to make it even (for example if you have 17 INT you get it to 18) or respec your character in such a way that adding the point matters, if this makes sense. Of course, you can also use that point on another companion, it's not mandatory to do it with your Tav. Most players, from what I've seen, will choose to to increase their main stat since the default number you get from the game is an odd number. Also, don't worry about doing a respec later, you won't be losing that point.
The maximum number you can max out your main ability to is 20 actually through Ability Improvement when choosing the feat. I've seen you reached Level 4 already so you probably chose that feat already but you should have the possibility of putting another +2 points into it when you reach Level 8 or 12. I don't know though if this is disabled on easy mode (my first playthrough was on balanced mode and now I'm on tactician) so I can't confirm it 100%. Multiclassing for example is disabled on explorer/easy mode.
"anyway, first of all, i’m gonna go find the soap mod asap since i just found out today you’re supposed to clean yourself so you don’t stink ☠️ and i have found exactly 0 bars of soap and 0 sponges so far, so i’m not gonna bother with that" You can find sponge and soap at the goblin camp under the main bridge. It's near some waterfall. However, I don't think it matters? I can't remember random NPCs calling me out for not washing myself or for stinking? I could be misremembering of course, but I think only some characters will be commenting on your Tav's smell, so it's not something that really matters unless you want to look clean all the time. For example, when Lae'zel tried to hook up with my character she said something about their scent driving her crazy or something like it lol. This one I haven't got it in my game, but Gale also has a similar line about him enjoying Tav's musk despite them not having washed in 10 days or so lmao (ewww), but he only says it after you flirt with him first and again, I don't think it matters if you used that soap earlier.
"after that the plan is to go back to camp, switch lae'zel out for astarion and go back to ethel (since astarion expressed interest in her so i’m curious if he’ll act out in some way)" There isn't really anything related to Ethel that makes or breaks your relationship with him other than some approval or disapproval points depending on your choices there BUT you'll want to have him in your party because there's a certain someone in the swamp, near Ethel's place that you'll be wanting to meet and it's better if you do it with Astarion in it.
Okay this got very long, I'm sorry!! Once again, my experience with the BG3 fandom is mostly subjective and I'm sure others had a more positive time in it but yeah...for me personally it was not so different compared to the HOTD one, sadly. Anyway, just enjoy your game, try to do every quest (I'm the type who explores everything in a game, it's worth it even if it takes a lot of time) and don't shy away from taking as many long rests as possible!
astarionwives being crazier than targ nation stans is quite the feat. i don't know whether to laugh or cry 😭 does that mean i'll have to put in the anti astarion tag just to steer clear of these freaks? 😂 i mean, i've heard some stories and i know they're off their rocker and i also hope to become the first of my friend group to successfully romance him, just for the incredible meme potential. but i am not interested in defending his racist ass antics or generally loser behaviour. i have to say that some of his overly theatrical lines make me gag, but he has the potential to be very funny. and, at the end of the day, that's why any person would play an RPG, to be entertained by either the straight-up comedic choices or the dark, fucked-up ones (even the latter can be considered funny with the right mindset)
Still, there's nothing that could justify going after a real person, in the end it's just a video game and no one is bad for making a certain choice or not.
you are so right about this being extra-delulu because there is no true "canon" in an RPG in the traditional sense when different choices lead to different outcomes. fandom participants far and wide seem to be getting increasingly bad at separating reality from fiction. especially when sometimes you don't even know how a seemingly innocuous action will lead to an undesired outcome. i can't imagine there are players out there who are made to feel bad by these weirdos for making different choices, some of them even random maybe
But of course to them it's more about being the fandom moral police rather than genuine concern about potential victims seeing the wrong content.
so true! i mean, this is the type of game that offers the possibility of playing with a dark urge character that is designed to do a lot of fucked up stuff (from my understanding). you'd think these spaces would be very difficulty to turn into morality police havens, but every day presents a new opportunity to be surprised by the level of delusion the human mind can engineer
In my experience the game's AI will first target the characters with the lowest AC (armour class) and those are usually the spellcasters like wizards or sorcerers. Until you get those gloves and a good shield, Mage Armor should help in early game to get that number a bit higher. It does cost a spell slot, but it's worth it.
oh, yes, i have started to use mage armour on myself and gale and it's very useful since i'm always the loser of the pack and those mean devils gang up on me in fights. i've also started to make shadowheart use Bless on the entire party using turn-based-mode before entering fights for an extra boost
As a sorcerer (it also applies to other charisma based classes like bards or warlocks) it was sooo easy to navigate throughout the game thanks to this and how easy it is to manipulate NPCs into doing your bidding, plus you get so many bonuses that by the end of the game that it's almost impossible to fail your CHA rolls.
it's so fun playing with high charistma! i see that you even have an easier time convincing your own companions? i had lae'zel with me when we met up with the other githyanki and the red dragon and i was able to successfully roll and get her to play along
i hesitated to become a warlock because i didn't like the backstory of selling my soul to a demon entity and sorcerers had fewer spells overall. for a first playthrough, wizard is pretty fun because you get to tap into that harry potter childhood and scratch that itch :))
You can find sponge and soap at the goblin camp under the main bridge. It's near some waterfall.
oh, good tip! i managed to find some in the bathhouse of the burning inn. not sure how to use both at the same time though? because you can only select one item at a time with right click to get to the 'use' function
However, I don't think it matters? I can't remember random NPCs calling me out for not washing myself or for stinking? I could be misremembering of course, but I think only some characters will be commenting on your Tav's smell, so it's not something that really matters unless you want to look clean all the time. For example, when Lae'zel tried to hook up with my character she said something about their scent driving her crazy or something like it lol. yeah, as you mentioned, i heard that gale mentions you smell and other characters do, as well. but i'm planning on wearing princess dresses as soon as i can find them so it wouldn't work for my overall vibe, i don't think :)) this game is so complex, i never, in a millions years, would have thought that they included an option for cleaning yourself
There isn't really anything related to Ethel that makes or breaks your relationship with him other than some approval or disapproval points depending on your choices there BUT you'll want to have him in your party because there's a certain someone in the swamp, near Ethel's place that you'll be wanting to meet and it's better if you do it with Astarion in it.
yes, i did meet that fantasy romani character and ofc astarion wasted no time in being racist with him ☠
my plan last night went to smithereens so i'll have to redo most of it tonight. no plan survives first contact with the enemy, right? 😭 first of all, i left the inn burning and completely forgot i had a Create Water spell (at least i saw it very late in my tab?? some wizard am i). honestly, i'm not really sure how game mechanics work because i assumed it would still be burning later and i could come back to it when i figured out what to do. as in, it would be left in stasis while i wandered around. turns out it did not! (again, this game is very complex) and only after i fought the gnolls outside the cave did wyll deign to tell me his dad was in there 🤦♀️ men truly are useless
so i decided to forgo all my hard work, loaded an earlier game, grabbed gale, shadowheart and astarion and just go to ethel's, which is what i wanted to do in the first place. i'm leaning now that a detour is never just a detour and that it takes a lot of time to explore a place. i had initially thought that investigating the shipment mark would not take as long, but alas.
anyway, it took FOREVER to explore her dilapidated hut and pick up everything i could before i went down into her basement cave and found her victims. opening the tree door also took me a lot of time, as did entering through it and positioning myself to fight her minions. i noticed that if i made Mirta (my tav) enter slowly and immediately take the mask off i would delay engaging with ethel and could just position my party to fight her flunkies. but it was a difficult fight nonetheless, and gale had the absolute GALL to request another magical artifact from me. again, men truly are just resource-consumers. he is currently on my shitlist for annoying me, because i only had this cool bard hat to spare that could give you inspiration points (no way would i have parted with mine or astarion's gloves or my web boots).
in any case, i consumed a lot of spell slots to finish off those unfortunates, so i think it would be best to just return to camp and replenish before i talk to the hag. so, thank you for telling me i can take many long rests, because i was a bit worried that by taking them too often i would accelerate friendship or romance plotlines before i had the time to work on my relationship or approval stats with those characters.
so, right now, i think i'll just try and see if i can get the ability point off of ethel (if her terms are acceptable to me) and then think about respecc'ing myself again in the future. i am very interested in the Actor feat to get more expertise in Deception and Charisma
after that i need to meet a vendor asap to buy more magical shit to feed into gale's annoying ass condition. and, only after then, can i try again with the inn and see how/if i could put the fire out. this is going to take me ages to do 😂
random, but i also found out that, since i had previously helped Alfira with her song and she gave me her lute, i might have musical ability?? i don't have access to my game rn so i'll have to check. that might prove really funny later on
Okay this got very long, I'm sorry!! Once again, my experience with the BG3 fandom is mostly subjective and I'm sure others had a more positive time in it but yeah...for me personally it was not so different compared to the HOTD one, sadly. Anyway, just enjoy your game, try to do every quest (I'm the type who explores everything in a game, it's worth it even if it takes a lot of time) and don't shy away from taking as many long rests as possible!
not at all! thank you for coming back, anon, and, most of all, thank you for all the tips! much appreciated! <3 and, yes, i'm also the same type, i feel the need to do every quest and i never leave a place without picking everything up, even rotting food and useless stuff like tongs and rope. my Mirta often gets 'encumbered' LOL

@pantasticenby -> @mspec-to-aspec-pipeline
Url and header inspired by this post.(link)
So, it’s been two years since I last logged into tumblr, and since then, I’ve realized some things about myself:
I’m not aceflux, I’m just ace.
I’m on the aro-spectrum as well; nebularomantic(link) to be exact.
Pan as a label no longer fits me (hence the url change), but bi-angled does.
I am, in fact, a we! Not gonna talk about it much, and don’t ask me my opinion on syscourse. All systems are welcome here; if you don’t like it, you can leave.
Still Ram, still a they/them (although I don’t really care about singular vs. plural usage anymore), still a neurodivergent nonbinary guy.
I’m back because I missed coining weird, niece terms for my queer experience and making flags for them. (Coining masterlist here)(link) Likely won’t be posting much else.
I decided to remake this blog rather than just changing my url for the sake of everyone who’s ever linked one of my terms. The links will break if I change @pantasticenby .
I’m disappointed (but not surprised) to learn that queer discourse is still a prominent feature of tumblr, and I’m too old and too tired to deal with it. So, let me get this out of the way:
Queer isn’t any more of a slur than gay or lesbian.
Censoring and arbitrarily policing queer people who reclaim slurs puts the power back in the hands of the queerphobes.
I’m out here fagdyking it up, and you will not stop me.
Gatekeeping is stupid. Policing queer identities and queer language is stupid. Go touch grass.
A-specs are queer. Yes, even aroallo cishet men.
“Weird,” “cringe,” and “contradictory” labels are valid. Queerness is about non-normative relationships with sexuality/romance/gender/sex. Stop trying to make a new norm to conform to, and accept that there will always be queer experiences that you don’t quite understand.
Transition is for anyone who thinks their life would be improved by it, regardless of identity or dysphoria.
I’m not giving you a free pass to misgender me by handing out auxiliary pronouns. If you genuinely have difficulty using they/them for whatever reason, I’ll be patient with you, but I’m sick of gatekeepers using disabled people and non-native English speakers as an excuse to be transphobic.
The way that this website and the queer community at large has treated transfems (particularly transfems of color) is appalling. I stand with my sisters.
The way the trans community has treated intersex people is also appalling. I stand with my intersex brothers, sisters, and siblings.
Masculinity/features associated with it are unfairly demonized, in trans people of either AGAB, in intersex people, and in queer people in general. That’s bioessentialism, babes, and it’s not cute.
Transandrophobia and transmisogyny are both real, and neither experience invalidates the other.
If you disagree with me on any of these fronts, that is a you-problem. I’m done playing along with bad-faith discourse and people taking out their internalized queerphobia on the weirder queers.
I can’t stop you from interacting or using my terms/flags, but I can block you and wash my hands of the situation.

I swear Genshin has the most obnoxious fans in the fandom. I usually tend to just block any “daily character” accounts because they’re usually run by antis. And guess what? I was correct
there’s a new npc who is regarded as a goth wolf man (his hair is slightly shaped like wolf ears) and he’s coupled with a smol cute nurse in the prison facility they both work at. The nurse belongs to a long life race of short and animal like beings called “Melusine”, though this specific character looks closer to a human than the others
people mostly ship her with the goth wolf because of her pastel like color palette that goes well with the muted grey/black/red colors of the wolf man. But because she’s short, this daily account and many others regard her as a child even though again, she belongs to a race that is much much older than the guy she’s shipped with. She also has a job and worked as a nurse much longer too
There are also 3 other characters that fit the trope, 2 of them have the same petite body size, 1 looks more like a 15-16 yo but shipping all 3 of them (or shipping the last one with a man actually) is considered “pedophilia”
and I’m tired that antis contribute to watering down pedophilia and force it to apply to fictional characters or short people in general
Kind of unrelated but interesting I got this ask about Sigewrio because I just answered an ask where I mentioned them.
But onto the topic, omfg, I know what daily account you're talking about. The person also goes onto say things "People who ship this should be behind bars" for shipping adults??? Or there's a SigeWrio acct I follow who made a post about m/f shipping and how people act like m/f shippers are shipping that purely out of spite for f/f, m/m. And someone was like "You had a good point but you ship an adult and child" and I'm fucking....SIGEWINNE IS NOT A FUCKING MINOR. Like antis love to throw around the harkness test as a gotcha for why 🔞 furry would be okay but 🔞 loli would not. But by their own logic, Sigewinne would pass the harkness test because she is an adult. Like I love SigeWrio because I adore the pastel/goth, bunny/wolf aesthetic. I always have. The size difference is just an added bonus for me. It's also frustrating that my favorite ships from Genshin end up having discourse over them even when they're not problematic at all (like Diluc x Venti and Neuvifuri omfg don't even get me started)

Not looking forward to all the racist disk horse that liable to rear its ugly head in the wake of the bibuckpocalypse. Not that it wasn’t already there, but like. Any time you get a big influx of new fans there’s just like, so many more of them to either try and educate or just block lmao.
Especially bc with this show in particular, there can be a lot of nuance in many aspects of it, and there’s a lot of trauma that all the characters experience that fans don’t always see the same way (particularly the parental trauma), and some of that falls along ethnic or cultural lines, and just…sometimes it’s complex! Sometimes the show takes a long time to resolve a conflict that causes hurt, sometimes they do it in an unsatisfactory way or don’t do it onscreen at all, and so some fans won’t be able to tolerate that wait or the way it’s handled, and that’s valid, but it’s also valid to be able to tolerate it. Doesn’t necessarily mean there’s racism or misogyny at the heart of those disagreements.
But sometimes it’s just racism. And I don’t look forward to any of these conflicts tbh, especially because the former type kind of requires folks to assume the best out of others until they hear them out, but when there’s also bog standard racism floating in the water, who has the time to try and sort through that shit? Idk.
I’m too tired dealing with this type of conflict in my real life, and while I have for a very large part of my adult life felt like fandom politics are important and indicative of many parts of society at large and therefore deserve to be taken seriously, I also just don’t have the energy.
Like…people who are disagreeing about how Eddie was treated in the last episode? Valid as a disagreement, but until we see for real how the show is gonna handle that, I’m personally gonna hold off on being too upset about it or like, getting involved in discourse about it at the very least. I might read lots of fic exploring it though. Coz I mean I also hated the way they “resolved” the lawsuit arc but eventually I read enough fic that I got over it 😂 god bless fic authors, truly.
BUT the people who are like “wow finally the gay firefighter show is actually gay” like lol no get out, shut up. You could have said “I’m so glad to see bi rep on the show finally!” or “I’m so stoked that another one of the main cast is gonna be openly queer now!” But the show has always been gay. The main cast has always had gay rep. If you forgot about Hen, your racism and/or misogyny is showing. Pls shut up.
