With all this 'tiktok therian' argument going on, let's say what we appreciate about the community despite the negatives- i'll go first I love seeing how creative tiktok therians are. Gear tutorials are readily available, and I love looking at how artistic folks can be. I love the POV quad videos, it's like i'm running through nature!! Its quite impressive how well folks can do quads, they're a pretty good workout! And quad tutorials that prioritize correct form and comfort so you dont get injured! I love seeing how brave folks are to go out in public with gear or do quads, unapologetically. I'm too nervous to do that.

I love my fellow therians, no matter what platform, and you should too.

To all of those getting mad at the tiktok therians saying “Therians know we are human”

You are being too harsh.

You can be an animal and be aware of your born biology. They are not inherently negating our animality, physical or otherwise.

All the critters on tiktok are trying to do 9 times out of 10 is say that they can and do acknowledge their born biology because the hate, bullying, and intentional misinformation on tiktok is just as rampant as the accidental misinformation.

There are some malicious tiktok therians, but they are a minority in the grand scheme of things. There are just as many therians that exclude physical therians on any other platform because the exclusion of physical therians ISNT A TIKTOK ONLY THING.

Even physical therians aknowledge their born biology to some capacity. They aknowledge what they can and cant do or eat. This is what they are trying to communicate USUALLY. Not referring to yourself as human is a personal identity that is still 100% valid and should be respected on an individual and community wide scale.

Maybe instead of hoping on another platform to rant and rave about a miscommunication, tell them to say “Therians are aware of our born biology”. Or do anything constructive with it. Or ignore it. Educate, tolerate, or walk away.

And yeah, tiktok takes communities that can have essays written about them into short style video media. It leans heavily on aesthetics and fun audio clips because it is short style video media. Do not go to tiktok for literacy or written accuracy. If watered down communities is something that enrages you, I don’t suggest youtube shorts, pinterest, or instagram either. These are FOR superficial interaction. Tumblr’s essay-like and well spoken posts within the community is not a cross-platform format. It is ok if you do not want interact with the community in other formats.

People who have interacted with the community mainly through superficial media are not likely going to know the PC way to talk to the community. Assuming malice harms everyone involved.

And yes, I say people. You do not have to be human to be a person, that is an anthropocentric belief.

I hate this take being constantly restated. If yall are mad at tiktok, go try and fix stuff on tiktok. The repetitive shitting on tiktok on Tumblr has gotten so agitating.

Literally all of this. I know the tumblr therian community says it’s super accepting , etc etc, and that is part of the reason why I came here… but honestly, i’ve seen more hate and discourse here than I ever have on tiktok. Maybe I was lucky, maybe I just blocked the right people from the start!! But considering a majority of the tiktok therian community appears to be children, it’s very… odd to me that a community that seems to have more adults in it is so vitriolic towards them!

Yes, there are a lot of “tiktok therians” who are less educated about therianthropy, or miseducated, but being mean about it won’t help. I think a lot of the tumblr community likes to act as “educators” when they simply aren’t cut out for it. Not in the way where they get definitions wrong, but just not realizing that education is the long game and it won’t go any faster if you’re rude about it. It’s not a bad thing to not be an educator, and I know many of us want to help, but like Paleo said, sometimes you have to just agree to disagree! They will come around eventually. Welcoming them here where they have more exposure to diverse therianthropic experiences is the best thing we can do to heal the community right now.

There is this malicious idea about these young “tiktok therians” and that they’re a group that we need to “drive out” , but I think if you look further than what may be just the jumbled wording of a young therian who is probably being relentlessly bullied and just wants acceptance from *somewhere*, and is still finding their place in the world, I see a group with a lot of potential! I’m so tired of seeing so much unhelpful criticism for what they do , especially if it’s presented in a snarky, know-it-all kind of way. It’s just not helpful in my opinion.

And, if for any reason it becomes too much, I really think people have to utilize the block button more. It’s your blog, and if you don’t want to deal with the potential wave of new accounts… block them? If they’re being disrespectful and you don’t want to deal with it… block them. I don’t understand what’s so scary about them coming here when you can just filter them out and ignore them if you’d really like, but perhaps I haven’t been here long enough. I sincerely doubt any of them would try to “tiktok-ify” tumblr though, because this platform and community isn’t really built for it. I haven’t even seen tumblr mentioned as one of the places to migrate to, so if they do come here it will be far less “catastrophic” than this community is suggesting.

I might be biased in all of this because I was technically a “tiktok therian”, but I’m really starting to dislike how many of us here act as if they’re the devil or something. It’s weird..!!

I don't want to engage in discourse, but I've seen so many posts here lately talking about "Tik Tok Therians" and worries about them migrating to Tumblr.

I'm just imagining what it's like for them. Imagine coming to Tumblr for the first time and discovering all this hate and infighting. Your main way of seeing content of others like you has been taken away from you, so you turn to Tumblr, only to find hundreds of posts making assumptions and generalizations about you. Imagine coming from Tik Tok and the first post you see on here is someone calling you annoying.

Are we really as accepting as we claim to be? Now is the time to prove it.

Yes, I would absolutely be bullied off the face of Tik Tok if I ever ended up there, but that doesn't mean I will treat them the same if they ended up here. If you're scared of Tumblr turning as toxic and hostile as Tik Tok, maybe the answer is to simply avoid being toxic and hostile.

Also, a bit of a tangent, but sometimes the best way to go about things is just agreeing to disagree with those around you. I can't even count how many times I've changed my mind about something because I saw someone with a different opinion and had a civil discussion, or did proper research about something I was misinformed on because I befriended someone new. Of course we are all entitled to opinions, and we can't always see eye to eye, but that's life.

Personally, my blog will welcome these "Tik Tok Therians" with open arms. They will see that I'm weird, but most importantly they will also see that I am one of them, I am kind, and willing to educate without hate.

Like please as a community can we learn to block and move on instead of engaging with people who are either trolling or just malicious and feeding off of the attention? 😭

No, I’m not saying to stop trying to educate people (especially the younger and newer members of the community who need it now more than ever!!) or to stop talking about the issues within the community, but you also need to recognize the trolls, the ragebait, and the people who won’t change their mind no matter what you say. i really need to start making posts clearing up misinformation about taxidermy tails bc i keep seeing people say that their tail is very obviously fake OR real and not from a fur farm because it’s actually “dyed” and not a fur farm color, and then i see a picture of the tail and for some goddamn reason it is ALWAYSSSS cinnamon or amber fox !!! My hot take for today… Let’s talk about “rare” theriotypes, coming from someone who “has” them

(super long post warning sorry)

Hi, Im Marimo! My theriotypes are blue arctic fox and scenthound dog. While I have similar feelings about both of these kintypes in regards to this topic, I’ll mostly be talking about my blue arctic fox theriotype for this post.

Now, a quick introduction to my blue fox theriotype since a majority of people (as a whole) are completely unaware of their existence… (and by completely unaware, I mean blue arctic foxes regularly being mislabeled as “summer morph” white arctic foxes because nobody knows what they are. 💔)

The blue arctic fox is a wild color morph of the arctic fox that appears in less than 1% of the population. They are a dark brown color all year round or can sometimes appear “blue” , hence the name. Unlike the standard white morph, they tend to live more on coasts and islands rather than inland, also giving the nickname of “coastal fox”. Because of this, their lives are different. Most do not rely on lemmings as prey and do a lot of scavenging along the coast. Blue arctic foxes living in Iceland in particular also hunt birds nesting on steep cliffs.

This is all part of what’s important to my identity as a blue arctic fox therian, and is part of how I awakened as one. The connection to the ocean in particular is important to me. I don’t really relate to white morph arctic foxes for this reason, because our theriotypes live fairly different lives, even if we are considered the same species. I find it hard to relate to other fox therians in general, which obviously isn’t to any fault of their own but it is still isolating.

I’ve searched far and wide and have not found a single other blue arctic fox therian. I find comfort in knowing that there are others with “rare” theriotypes who I can relate to in my experience and isolation with the community, and I don’t want discussions about “rare” theriotypes to stop in the sense of empathizing with people like me who, realistically, might never find another therian with their kintype… ever.

However, I do recognize that the language is harmful. “Rare” theriotypes are obviously not something to be coveted or revered, and I can attest to that considering it has brought me some distress. Awakening was hard because, with all this talk of common kintypes vs rare kintypes and people’s own personal gripes about it made it difficult to know if I really was this “super ultra rare type that literally nobody else has!!1!1!” or if I was just attention seeking and trying to be seen as special. But I don’t really like the complete opposite either, where it seems like trying to talk about this unspoken isolation or even just casual talk of the different experiences using the only language we know to describe it, theriotype rarity, is met with a slap on the wrist and a “reminder that common and rare theriotypes dont exist!! We are all unique!!” type-post that doesn’t really discuss why someone like me would gravitate towards that language anyways. Obviously, it’s true that all our experiences as therians are wholly unique to ourselves, but there is a huge difference between being welcomed into the community as a “common” kin with thousands of others like you to talk to about it vs being welcomed into the community with a grand total of zero others like you and no other kintype group you really feel like you can relate to because it’s just. Different. And it’s hard to describe that difference but I know it’s there because I’ve felt it the second I walked into the community knowing that this is who I am. There’s this kinship I see with others who share theriotypes simply based on that fact alone and frankly, it’s hard knowing I’ll probably never experience that with the theriotypes that mean the most to me.

So, how about we propose a new term? It’s not accurate to use this “theriotype rarity” system and again spreads misinformation. It also doesn’t particularly describe the experience of having a “rare” type either.

I’m not very good at making up new terms, but im starting to get quite attached to “lonetype” , as in loner/alone + ‘type. Obviously, not everyone with a “rare” theriotype would have to use this to describe themselves, because some might not feel that isolated by it or feel the need to search for someone with the same kintype as them. Or if they just don’t want to use it!! But for anyone like me who wants to talk about a theriotype that feels isolating without delving into theriotype rarity language… perhaps this is the word for you! Or even those without lonetypes who want to ask the community questions, for example “do you have an uncommon/rare theriotype?” and “what’s your rarest theriotype?” can be replaced with “do you have a lonetype?”. It could also be used by sister communities like otherkin/alterhuman since “lonetype” is a fairly versatile word. Pointing out your lonetype(s) can sort of be a way to call for others who share your lonetype(s), in the small chance that they see it :’)

I feel this gives therians like me who can’t really relate to a lot of the community because of this a way to talk about it without using language that spreads misinformation about what therianthropy is really about. Maybe the word still needs workshopping, but I just wanted to share my piece about it considering my circumstances and hopefully see what others think of it. I know some therians are tired of new terms for every little thing in this community, but I honestly don’t expect this post to really go anywhere. Most importantly, I hope this post doesn’t come off as pretentious like I’m just “too different” for this community because that is really not my intention and I would hate for it to come off that way. That’s all really, for the few who see this let me know what you think 🙏

"Tiktok therians" Can we stop telling physical therians, Holotheres, Lycanthropes and other identities that aren't Spiritual / Physiologically that they're invalid and not part of the community?

Physicals, Lycanthropes, Holos and literally everyone else, Can we stop telling Younger therians, "TikTok therians," and other therians they're not part of the community?

Hey guys it's almost like you're trying to divide the community more! I know this is lowkey hypocritical because of my last post but like. The spiritual / Mental Anon is still a therian, surprise! I just think they should stay out of the Tumblr side of the community considering they chased everyone else off every other app especially tiktok, I genuinely have seen so many phys/holos/etc express discomfort because of the harassment on tiktok.

I also hate the way y'all treat each other because guess what, I was a tiktok therian! Oh my! It's almost like I developed as a person though and even discovered I might even be a physical alterhuman! Can we just educate each other and not try to 'outkin' each other???

It's highkey annoying, it's weird and the harassment of others in our community is so fucking embarrassing. I don't understand how the most "open-minded group" can be so closed minded towards each other when we should be trying to educate each other and motivate each other.

FIRST OFF… apparently i got the state wrong. It was Ohio! there are so many unethical sellers to keep up with that I got the states mixed up lol, that’s my bad!

SECOND OFF… I want to make clear that this is ALL public information. I just searched up names that the seller themselves provided!

Okay here we go… Think of this as a partial beware on this seller because I do not think they are ethical , but also in general as just a mildly amusing story lol

The seller in question is Paulette Fur Company, based in Ohio obviously. I used to do a lot of investigations on fur sellers in a discord server i was in and people generally went to me if they were looking for ethical tails or wanted to know if the seller they were looking at was ethical. This was one of those cases.

Usually my investigations never go this deep… I tend to look at the advertising (not just on etsy but on other platforms, for example do they have an unholy amount of tails in their ads? probably unethical!) and what color morphs they sell, where they say they get the fur from and if it lines up to the morphs they have, If they have an ethics statement, where they’re located, etc… But if there’s a name attached to all of this, I search that up too because it can bring up other sites where they sell taxidermy, other related businesses they run (such as a trapping business, which would give me more of an idea of their ethics and how they source their fur)

Simply looking over the Paulette Company, I see things that are suspicious at best. Little to no info on their sourcing outside of the vague “guys please we’re environmentally friendly and ethical i swearrrrr trust me bro!” and some of the pelts coming from Norway, which interestingly enough the country was actually planning to shut down all their fur farms and ban the practice all together by 2025, and apparently succeeded early last year (source)

But, naïve little Marimo of the past would not know that this would be the first seller they find to have been arrested, and may still have been breaking the law afterwards?! 😭 In my investigation, I looked up the owner of the company, David Paulette, and found this (source):

This article was posted in 2010, and states that Mr Paulette was not supposed to be in the ginseng business , or even acquire it for 30 years. The Paulette Fur Company Facebook however tells a different story…

above shows a post from their FB in the ginseng business in 2023..! Now, their website does say Mr Paulette retired, but who’s to say he doesn’t have a hobby…? 👀

Obviously, this part and anything further is speculation. It could very well be an operation run by someone else involved in the business, but I’d consider this an irritating loophole considering wild American Ginseng is a vulnerable and rare plant which is why Mr Paulette was arrested in the first place. Glad to see Ohio takes ginseng conservation somewhat seriously though 🫡

That’s it really!! The conclusion of this story is that vetting your taxidermy fur sellers is more than a quick skim through their page lol. I wouldn’t personally trust a seller who can’t accurately keep records of a root, but perhaps that’s just me 😶

Sorry for being all “grrrr i hate it here!!!” on my first day on therianblr but i promise I have actually good posts in the works. I want to propose a new definition of therianthropy that helps include those outside of the “standard” spiritual/psychological origins that might also dispel some confusion about what it means to identify *as* an animal… I’ve gotta revise it a bit more because I wrote it at 5 am and most of it is ramble but i promise yall it will be peak… Not sure if anyone else has done something like this before but im just a regular guy trying to give my two cents 👍 Im not a physical therian myself but one of my kintypes is an emotional kin which I dont see talked about a lot either!
