it's been more than a year of sporeclan! how are you feeling about it? what's your favourite piece (and not so favourite) so far? or favourite to draw?

It sure has! It's pretty wild that it's been a year since I started drawing these silly kitties! It paradoxically feels like it's been forever and no time at all simultaneously haha

I'm pretty proud of myself that I've managed to draw 27 moons of content over the course of the year! I usually have trouble sticking with long term projects, but all the positive reactions have really lit my fire to keep going. Thank you all for every like, reblog, tag, reply, ask and especially the wonderful fanart, I could not have gotten this far without you <3

Now, if I had to pick a favourite piece from this year, it definitely goes to Oakfox's death;

I REALLY love how this one turned out! The fire turned out so nice, and I really like the poses and expressions. I think if there's one thing I would change, I would make the text more visible. It's a little too light.

Least favourite piece is so hard to pick... So I'll just pick a process instead lol! I really don't like trying to map out the panels in moons where nothing happens. It's suchhh a fight to get the ratio's right when nothing even happened!!!

happy 15 years of the duo that moulded me into the being i am today, it’s been a wild 14 years of my life and i wouldn’t have it any other way. love yall

While their stories are different , Helen and Odysseus are very similar in "roles" of their narratives

Sounds nuts but hold on. I'm also probably wording that weird. but here we go.

Obviously with the time, the culture, and their genders to consider, they ARE very different but there's just...something that's been ITCHING me about them and their stories.

1.) Both of their homes/lovers are "fighting for them". Obviously the Trojan War is about bringing Helen home through the Oath of Tyndarius. (Also, "You kidnapped my wife, wtf?") Menelaus LITERALLY fighting to bring Helen back home. Penelope is fighting so that Odysseus has a home to come back TO.

2.) Paris/Calypso: Cause them both to weep in their stories, literally keep them captive through the means of an immortal/magic for YEARS. People will fight about how "willing" they are

3.) Deiphobus/Circe: Another "lover" where both were just...going through the motions. Trying to survive. Just another day in hell. Shorter amount of time. Both Deiphobus and Circe "defeats" involve someone's "rescuing" (Odysseus rescuing his men, Helen herself being rescued)

4.) Taken away from their home that they didn't want to leave

5.) Missing most of their only child's childhoods unwillingly

Even then, they are technically the CAUSE of each other's circumstances in life. Odysseus made a deal with Tyndarius to marry Penelope. Helen only got to choose Menelaus because of Odysseus' idea. Odysseus had to leave home because of said oath and still tried to resist leaving. Helen is only able to go home (aka the war is over) because of Odysseus' idea again. Both Penelope AND Menelaus leave the place they were born in (Sparta and Mycenae) to rule with their spouses in THEIR homelands. Even with how they're both an "enigma" could be something.

Obviously, they are not each other's "center of the world" but they both have affected each other with their actions (or actions under duress) Same with their spouses.

JUSt... SOMETHING'S ITCHING MY BRAIN WITH THIS skldjf klsdjf MAybe it's a whole "This is how men and women both "fight"" with their expected roles at the time and comparing the two? IDK I feel like there's something there.

stacy is sooo interesting because she's in love with house but knows that they will never ever be able to have a healthy, stable, sane relationship because they're too similar so. she finds house-lite instead and marries him and. essentially moves on with her life! and is successful in this because she's a moderately well-adjusted person!

wilson, in contrast, never manages to escape the inevitable, in spite of his best efforts to find a house-lite of his very own, because he's an absolute fucking freak and ends up glued to house to the bitter. bitter end

Ok, the livestream of the Wisdom Saga broke me a little inside. And by a little, I mean a lot. Utterly. Entirely. And once I have all my thoughts together, expect a whole series of rants about every detail I managed to notice beyond the haze of my tears. But one realization I had was about Athena, Odysseus, and Telemachus.

Like many others, I thought it was hilarious that Athena would be up in arms defending Telemachus and openly calling him her friend when she knew Odysseus for much longer and was still in denial about their friendship. I thought there was something about Telemachus that was just more endearing to her, something that Odysseus lacked in character, in attitude, what have you. But with the release of the Wisdom Saga and all the reveals regarding so many of the unfinished little lyric blurbs we’ve heard before, one thing is clear: Athena would not be able to love Telemachus if not for Odysseus. Odysseus is the one who taught her what it is to have a friend. Odysseus is the one who held out his newborn son for her to hold, a privilege I doubt many had.

Without Odysseus, I honestly don’t think she would’ve given Telemachus a second glance. After all, she was searching for a warrior of the mind, and I don’t know that he would’ve lived up to even her prerequisite standards. Not worth the investment of her time, so to say. But because she does know Odysseus, because he showed her what it means to be more than a warrior of the mind, that there is more to life than walking alone, she changes.

She admits it. Odysseus is her friend. He is her friend, and she left him. And that acknowledgment brings her so much guilt she is unable to sleep at night. Guilt is not something she or any of the other Olympians would feel, especially not in relation to mortals. Why should they? Human lives are brief and meaningless. So for Athena to regret is not normal. Yet, she does.

She has learned humanity, and that is what leads her to Telemachus’ side. It is what allows her to cast aside old hurts and face up against Zeus to save Odysseus. It is what causes her to remember holding baby Telemachus in her arms all those years ago, and it is why that memory gives her the strength to persevere against her father’s onslaught.

It is why when she is on the ground, bloody and broken and beat, her last conscious words are used to beg for Odysseus’ freedom.

Her friend.
