thinking this labor day about all the athletes in women's sports who didn't have a stable league, who were only making decent money from a spot on their national team, who had to fight to get even a fraction of what they deserve. who spent their prime without a club league or the infrastructure to propel the sport. who came of age after title 9 in the usa [forcing schools to fund women/girlsâ sports], the ones who fought for cbas and are only seeing big change at the end of their careers or after their careers concluded. who didn't have the media attention before, but are now showing just how much they can sell out stadiums and arenas. the players who played year round because overseas teams paid athletes what they were worth. athletes who endured and reported harassment but the league never took appropriate action. athletes who never had the media attention or ability to monetize their talent but who had careers that were just as impressive as the stars of today. who did it without the help of the science, technology, and medicine we have today. who set records with less support and fewer games in a season, which will be broken by kids who have had personal trainers since high school. athletes who played great games that are no long available to view, their talent no longer archived and accessible for young or new fans. athletes who still don't have a league or are just getting one in 2024. athletes who took it upon themselves to create change for which they will never reap the full rewards.
#this is across the board stuff#it's about the wnba the nwsl the pwhl and all the preceding leagues across the sports#im not athletic or good at sports but i do love the social sciences#it is the natural evolution of sport but there are lost generations#like in soccer abby wambach marta christine sinclair none of them had a club league in their prime#like cynthia cooper is the only other true guard that won mvp and she won it twice but you can't watch games from back then#women's hockey in north america is a newer story and perhaps more complex but still the stories of going from chartered planes in college#to not that in what is supposed to be a professional league#this is one of the reasons why i think we need more athlete's memoirs#like of course i want the juicy off court stuff i'm human but the amount of organizing and advocacy that athletes have had to do#nwsl#wbna#pwhl#and i want to be clear i'm not subtweeting specific players here in a mean way it's just facts#that if you are playing more games per year in your prime and you have more advanced knowledge#about recovery and training you have more opportunities to raise the bar#i actually get emo about this stuff all the time but i figured it's topical today

god i wish we had gotten more of twelve with river song. he just meshes so well with her and since their time streams are finally (almost) synced up you donât feel the imbalance of maturity/knowledge that you get in a lot of elevenâs time with her, and less general timeline âwhere are they right now what the fuck is happeningâ fuckery to sort through. just a husband and wife who have lived so much together and know itâs coming to an end very soon so they have to relish it (even if river doesnât have the knowledge of her own death the way the doctor does, she knows itâs almost over because her diary is running out of pages). and i love watching this older, less theatrical, more rough-around-the-edges doctor with her because it develops their dynamic and the passage of time for the doctor so well. he's not eleven, trying to hide the pain and damage anymore. he doesn't spin off lies and deflections. he wears the hurt and is comfortable in it, and river is there to bring the joy and wonder out. they just have a more mature, beautiful relationship to me.
more thoughts and elaboration under the cut bc i care for your dash <3
twelve and river were such a delight to watch because (this is getting into hot take territory here sorry) once capaldi took over from matt smith, the show basically gave up on the whole âthe doctor is very attractive and all the women want himâ narrative that it pushed for eleven. of course it was there with ten but i think it got Egregious with eleven. moffat really wanted us to believe matt smith was the hottest man in the universe (and heâs not unattractive! i admit i thought he was attractive when i first watched doctor who years and years ago! the writing was just over the top with it!) twelve is not some young whimsical prettyboy anymoreâ heâs abrasive, blunt, and old. the show doesnât treat him like heâs supposed to be attractive, which makes him and riverâs relationship feel so real.
first off i want to point out that river is still very much attracted to the doctor in his new body which was so exciting for me because how often to we get to see romance and desire and (sexually) intimate relationships in people past the age of 35??? hardly ever! how often do we see a beautiful woman expressing desire for a man thatâs not young or conventionally handsome NOT because she has ulterior motives or weâre supposed to believe heâs actually the sexiest man alive but because she simply loves him? how often do we see relationships where no matter how much change they go through, even when one of them has turned into an entirely different person (figuratively or literally), the love stays steady and unchanged? especially when these changes involve aging? there isnât nearly enough. and seeing it is kind of healing for me, just a reminder that you can have love and intimacy and passion even when youâre not âyoung and beautifulâ anymore
twelve and riverâs relationship is just charged with so much shared experience and trust and i wish we had gotten to see more of it. in conclusion i want a special that recaps the 24 years on darillium thank you and goodbye
#they had twenty four yearsâŚ#all that time to just live and be husband and wife#all that time for her to learn all the ins and outs of the new him#and all the ways for him to work through how he can express love in the new body#as twelve rather than eleven#and getting to see that she loves him just the same in every form#idk iâve been thinking a lot about aging lately#i know im young but i have a bit of a fear of it because of how society pushes the whole âpast your primeâ narrative#especially for women who are taught that they lose value once their âyouth and beautyâ fades#like i said seeing relationships like these is healing#doctor who#twelfth doctor#river song#the husbands of river song

Gotta be honest the constant objectification of women's bodies is a bit tiring sometimes.
#catgirltxt#'naked female torso (conventionally attractive)' is a common decoration for some reason#shittons of songs that treat sex with women as purely status building for men#i think the worst part is that as a woman you're expected to buy into it too#and not just buy into it but participate in it#to be chill or whatever you have to create a gap between you and other women#you have to instead align yourself with men and abandon any female solidarity#don't get me wrong i'm a tranny i know full well that female solidarity is a sick joke#but like goddamn i don't want to live in a world where a prime way of gaining respect from men is to engage in this shit#if you object to it all you're treated like you're an overreactive hysterical idiot#and if you just don't participate you're treated as boring#this type of shit is especially prevalent in male dominated areas but it exists just about everywhere#almost the only places it doesn't is spaces that just don't discuss sex at all and those spaces for the most part suck#just about the only people i've seen even mention this on tumblr dot hell are radfems! hardly anyone else!#we need a feminist movement again so bad

Does anyone have any good book recommendations that talk about transmisogyny in a way that would be entry level to like. A 50 year old cis lesbian
#especially ones that talk about the ways that our society primes even trans allies to view trans women in a negative light#my mom is trying but i think she could use some help understanding in a way that i dont think i could just talk her through#she seems to think my gf is more like standoffish than she actually is and she thinks my gf is being rude when shes emotional about smth#and im talking her through it from the perspective of like#'as a human being and as someone who is all too familiar with homophobia please understand what this is like from her perspective'#but i feel like. theres some unconscious transmisogyny going on here and i really wish my mom could understand that#but i dont think shes ever even heard of transmisogyny before. she has no context#i cant try and talk her through it from that perspective bc she would need a lot of background to understand what im saying#and i dont think trying to explain transmisogyny theory in the middle of an argument would be helpful#if i could recommend her a good book under the context that it would help her understand me and my gf as trans people#and if she read through it and took the time to understand it which i do believe she would#i feel like it might help her to kind of analyze if the thoughts shes having are influenced by transmisogyny and start unpacking that#and also importantly i feel like she could look at what my gf is going through not just from the human and lgbt perspective im asking her to#but also from her perspective As A Woman#bc i feel like theres a missing piece there right now. my mom supports us and respects my gfs gender#but i dont think shes looking at these situations in context As A Fellow Woman#idk#rambling

Something something âlet the old man run around for a minute and then weâll get the nice young bloke inâ âhappy birthday Doctor Who! Youâre older than me!â âOne last shot before you get too old to do it againâ âitâs been fifteen years (attempts to smooth out wrinkles as something like panic flashes across his face)â and will you still want me when Iâm nothing newâŚ
#david tennant#Doctor who#The tenth Doctor#the fourteenth doctor#i think David might be having a teeny weeny bit of a midlife crisis#It makes me genuinely sad to see him make all these self-deprecating remarks about getting older#I know that women have to deal with ageism a lot more then men do#But Davidâs just such a sensitive person and that fear of being tossed aside the second heâs not cool or young or interesting enough anymor#Is something heâs just always had#And I think returning to his most iconic performance that he played when he was in his âprimeâ sort of awakened those insecurities#David you are LOVELY and cool and handsome and fun and all of the wonderful things#You will be when youâre 60! You will be when youâre 70 and 80 and so on

radfem tip: talk to your female friends about radical feminism without calling it "radical". talk about your own experiences with misogyny, and the normalisation of it. don't be afraid of (friendly) disagreements over what is and isn't sexist, differences in your experiences and ways to handle sexist behaviour. talk about your perceptions of what it means to be a woman, what that feels like to you, and how and why it affects (or doesn't - that's okay too) your personhood and behaviour and position in society.
a lot of radfems - myself included - have worries about being rejected for our views. but remove the rhetoric and the theory from the discussion and just talk to the women in your life and the commonality in our experiences speaks for itself. you don't need to change minds outright or "peak" your aunt's dogwalker's sister. consciousness-raising doesn't just happen in safe spaces and activist circles; it can happen every time you interact with another woman, so long as you're engaging in good faith and with the right mindset.
(by the way, when i say "talk" i equally mean listen. people can tell when you're speaking at them with the sole purpose of getting your point across. you shouldn't aim to educate your friends, but to have the kind of honest and open conversations that have been effectively outlawed by modern discourse.)
#radical feminism#radfems interact#radfem safe#clearing out my drafts#wow i wrote this ages ago#like long before lockdown#i think in some ways this is harder now#everyone is incredibly primed for some good old terf hunting#but in a lot of ways it's much easier because of how shit things have been for women recently#in very visible ways#everyone's angry and everyone wants to shout about it

the thing abt this website (and probably other websites as well) is that like. posters will complain that readers get mad at posts for not encompassing Everyone's Experiences, when they were just talking about their own experiences
and it's like. okay but did you phrase your post in the universalizing second person or.
cue janet-with-cactus gifset.
#this is specifically a vagueblog of a post that describes 'being a girl and hitting puberty' as#'you spend years hating being a girl and hating everything puberty did to you'#which is like. i KNOW i read some personal essay by some famous female screenwriter whose name i'm blanking on#that was *entirely* about her adolescent Desire to Grow Breasts#it's not that feeling dubious abt yr body changing *can't* be a Cis Female Experienceâ#[bc ultimately i do believe like. Gender is a bunch of different things in uneasy harness#(more on this another time probably)#but definitely one of those things is 'the particular lens we personally choose to view our own experiences through'#so if afab!you decide yr a woman? yr experiences are those of a cis womanâ even if they're statistically speaking uncommon for cis women]#âbut it definitely is not a universal one#(and tbh i rather suspect not even a common oneâ although i don't remotely pretend to have data on that point?)#anyway like. if you aren't trying to make claims abt the universality of an experience: first person is a tool available to you!#consider using it!#i think honestly people deploy the universalizing 'you' in ways that are totally invisible to them and it's often alienating-to-harmful#but like. we're so primed to Seek Social Validation that we often phrase things in ways that are like. subtle equivalents of latin nonne#and it's like. this is a power move actually! you don't even realize you're making it!#anyway i'm just a lobbyist for like. understanding what you're doing and doing it on purpose#language#metatumbling

not to say i told you so but I knew Jack was fishy from the beginning đđđ
#i mean i could write an essay on how her proximity/upbringing with wealth clearly programmed her with a shit ton of internal misogony#(and external while we're at it)#but seriously the fact that she was so unbothered in the beginning about the nuances of her dating keeley when she's funding her firm#and then love bombing her#only to blow up when keeley's privacy is massively violated#all because she and her daddy didn't like the optics of it#like jack can talk shit about rich white men all she wants but she is a prime example of a rich white woman who thinks she's woke#just because she's gay#anyway i hate that the writers put keeley through this this season when we could have had a healthy queer relationship between two women#(not to mention how male-gaze this a lot of their scenes have felt)#ted lasso#ted lasso spoilers

we all know that one guy who's got an aura of profound sadness and deep searing rage in his eyes but he can't do anything about it because he's in a children's show and his form of catharsis would probably drastically shift the genre
#ok fine. this is about transformers prime. and applies to every character in that show. literally#but i was specifically thinking arcee and ratchet. bc i was drawing them#''noo arcee beat up poor defenseless starscream'' well god forbid women do anything

Stupid fuckin idea but does anyone out there wanna try to make a zine about sex with nonbinary people? I think I do
#courtship language experience literal anatomy ive found guides for trans women and trans men about safer sex or better sex and what have ya#but yo what if i aggressively reject any attempt to make me binary? and i want to have sex and talk about sex but fuckin....#not to dunk or anything but all yall really want a nonbinary man or a nonbinary woman so you don't have to think about it#my body doesn't conform to binary expectations and frankly neither does my sex#I'm trying to read Primed but the clash between how i perceive myself and how that zine talks about sex is distracting

Why did no one tell me that shojo is this good. hello.

i thought about seba for longer than 5 seconds and now iâm obliterated.
#IM NORMAL IM NORMAL IM NORMAL#i miss my paragons SO BAD!!! but bc of school work and elysiumâs prime i havenât been able to think abt them in months#OOUUUGHGHHGH i want to draw them so bad <3#anyways seba. i love them. iâm so normal#iâve been thinking a little bit and i really want to revamp the whole story (rare second draft W from stan)#esp the new kids sections cause itâs tropey in a boring way and i want to do different things with it#<- and also i think it turned too much into wexdromeda relationship development that i forget about io ressa and stacy đ#and for the character development of the worst man on earth? what was i thinking. im sorry women. and stacy#anyways. i decided that seba does get to say goodbye to everyone at the end of all things.#in the first draft he only met with jade and then found nix and grew old together#but sebaâs relationship with ALL of the new kids is not worth sacrificing#they deserve closure about what happened to their best friend#also. seba get to see them finally because of time travel manipulation; so they relive that same day over and over talking to each person#and tells the beautiful story of their journey over and over. think itâs really funny to imagine the younger men of the 141 realizing that price is actually super good with women.
soap plays knight- shows off to gawking birds, kyleâs pretty boy eyes and sharp tongue garner plenty of attention, and all simon needs to do is sit in the middle of the bar, waiting till a sweet thing asks him âwhat a big man like him is doing alone?â
price isnât as engaged. letâs his boys have fun, but for the most part prefers to hang back. enjoy his liquor and cigarettes- let them do their thing. course, doesnât go unnoticed. which spurs their assumption itâs not a âhe wontâ and instead a âhe cantâ.
ââfraid they might not like you, capmâ?â
âaye gaz, play nice. ye know ta old manâs sensitive.â
âlost his spark, i reckon.â
they rib him for weeks on end about being an old man, no game, out of his prime, ect ect. itâs all light and fun of course, and combat keeps them busy enough that the jokes start to be forgotten. doesnât occur to them that price has just been biting his tongue since the first blow.
until- night off. pub lights, tallboys and pretty women. familiar scene, type of place that has been in nasty dreams for weeks. kyle and soap are assessing the room, and simonâs silently following along. it takes them a minute to realize theyâre captain is gone- but not 10 seconds to find him again- with a sweet, gorgeous bird on his arm by the bar.
silently, they watch as he effortlessly charms her. they count how many times she laughs, how eager she is to hold his arm, how, within in minutes, theyâre already cozied up on a booth, nursing beer and making eyes.
and why wouldnât she? classically handsome, mature, cute smile, a rugged exterior with a gentle execution. itâs a no-brainer for her when he offers to âget out of hereâ, and hold the muscles that breech from his shirt. doesnât catch the way he glances over to a corner of the pub as they make their leave, small smile tugging at the burs of his mustache as he clocks the shock of his menâs faces under low lighting.
soap and kyleâs jaw break, meanwhile simon lets out a barking laugh.
âold manâs still got it.â
needless to say, all three men said nothing about losing his charm at the next debrief.
#might do a follow up on this#just a bird who likes older men has no idea what sheâs up for#fucks you silly to :(#captain john price x you#captian price#captain john price x reader#captain johnathan price#captain john price#john price x reader#john price cod#john price#john price x you#johnny soap mactavish#kyle gaz garrick#simon ghost riley#spurbleuâ´ď¸â§ď¸âď¸drabbles
