Oh so many!! I was a S1 shipper as well so I've always had the goggles on, which will undoubtedly influence this list (we're talking the littlest of the little moments) - novel quotes are in quotations

Callum glancing back to look at her in 1x03 when she stays behind to battle the smoke wolves

His happy little face when she's 'faced her fears' in 1x05 after they go down the waterfall

i mean. i meannnnnnnn obx really took over my wrapped this year and i’m so okay with that. love this song to death, it’s one of those that i can never play loud enough cause i just need to feel it in my bones. such an anthem, so much fun to sing along to, and it definitely makes me tear up cause i’m actually incapable of separating it from the pogue reunion scene in 2x04 which is just objectively one of the best scenes in the show. this might be very corny but it just makes me feel the kind of invincible that can only come from the naivety and hopefulness of youth yknow

Top 5 Buddie moments? ☺️🥰

oh my godddd where do i start???? can i even pick 5????????? *Edit upon finishing writing: most of these ended up focusing on Eddie’s feelings towards Buck I feel??? and I definitely have Things to say about their reunion in 3x06 and the kitchen scene bc they’re also up there as my faves so I could possibly also do an alternative top 5 that’s more Buck caring about Eddie but anyway here you go!

5. 2x04 - Buck introduces Eddie to Carla

Honestly every single interaction between them in this ep is my favourite because Buck supports Eddie so much throughout the whole ep????? Taking him to the hospital, telling Maddie what a great dad he is, giving Bobby the heads up when Eddie has to bring Chris to the station, it's all So Good. Especially when you remember they're still only just becoming friends at this point. But Buck introducing him to Carla has to be the icing on the cake for me. It's just- we've seen how smothered Eddie has felt in the past when it comes to caring for Christopher, how his parents have continually tried to take over or make him feel like he's doing something wrong, and I just really, really love that Buck offers him this support and this magic fix but in a way that doesn't undermine Eddie as a parent at all??????? Like he helps him but not because he thinks Eddie can't handle it but because he thinks Eddie deserves a break and wants to make things easier for him. It's amazing and I loVE IT

4. 3x18 - His fiancée's AbBy

sakljdfhs okay look. Listen. I love this scene so much and I think only recently sort of understand why. It's the first time we really see Eddie lose his calm during an emergency and the first time we see him specifically lose his calm over Buck. Because Eddie clearly knows how to compartmentalise and because of that we generally only see him look worried but not really outwardly react when Buck is in danger. But this scene akjsdh he's so aNNOYED and frustrated and it's fascinating because you have to wonder how much he knows about Abby and who's told him what. But what we do know is he knows Abby broke his best friend's heart and he knows Buck is willing to sacrifice himself for anyone but no way in hell is Eddie about to let him become collateral damage for someone who doesn't deserve it (and now we know he'd already changed/or was changing his will during this time *screams*). And yeah it's fun to call it jealousy but ultimately I think it was a lot of worry and a lot of frustration on Eddie's part because it's a very clear example of Buck believing he's expendable and Eddie wanting to shout, "You're wrong!!!!". Just. What a good fucking scene.

3. 3x03 - There’s nobody in this world I trust with my son more than you

I mean how could I not include this scene?????? It’s just- everything. All of it. From Buck’s voiceover to photograph playing in the background to the way Eddie all but bulldozes his way through casual conversation in the hopes of not having to explain. It’s about the absolutely unconditional way Eddie forgives him, like it’s not even a question, and the way Buck is so clearly torn up and can’t understand why Eddie doesn’t toss him aside. I’ll never get over “A few choice words can be the life raft that gets you home” combined with “There is nobody in this world I trust with my son more than you.” And obviously we know just how true that is later on but in this scene, you can tell Buck hears him even if he can’t quite allow himself to believe it yet. And it’s so soft and so gentle and just another one of those examples that prove to us that Eddie always seems to know exactly what to say to Buck to bring him back to the surface :’)

2. 4x04 - The gym scene

Honestly if it wasn’t for the season 4 finale this would be my number one. How do I love this scene? Let me count the ways. Just sakdjhfa fuck!!!!! it’s the first time we’ve ever seen Buck angry and I know obviously Eddie’s his confidant but it’s so good to actually see Eddie being his confidant. To see that Eddie’s the one he wants to vent to and that Eddie’s the one he trusts with his anger and Eddie just remains such a calming presence in the face of it all????? From the gentle way he talks to the way his foot holds down the punching bag while Buck hits it - I am on the floor. And also!!!!!! Eddie just repeatedly validating Buck’s feelings - “What do you have to apologise for? If that’s how you feel - how they made you feel - then you have every right to say so.” askdjfhas I think it’s really important actually because Buck is always called out for thinking before he acts and yeah, obviously sometimes he should apologise but I really love that Eddie takes the time to make it clear this is different. 1. 4x14 - You think you’re expendable...but you’re wrong

askdjfha is there anything I can say about this scene that hasn’t already been said?????? It’s stunning. It’s so beautiful and so significant and I will never recover. Eddie is someone who struggles so much to talk about his feelings but he’s the one who initiates the conversation because this is important to him. And I said this yesterday but it really is a declaration of love????? I’ve written before about how the scene sort of parallels/answers Buck’s “Love me anyway” plea but one thing I noticed when rewatching Buck Begins is that when Buck gets hurt Margaret yells at him and says “You think you’re indestructible but you’re not” and it’s such a contrast to Eddie saying “You think you’re expendable...but you’re wrong.” even though the two sentences are almost identical. I’ve talked a lot about how significant the word “expendable” is and that parallel sort of reinforced it for me because Margaret is chastising Buck. She’s admonishing him for being reckless with himself and his body and it’s inarguably tied to Daniel. Whereas Eddie uses the word expendable because he knows Buck’s recklessness comes from a place of not feeling wanted. So he tells him I want you and I love you and you can’t get hurt because me and Christopher need you and Buck hears him. And I mean, that’s not even getting into the wILL of it all???? Like, hello???????? but I’m gonna stop now because I’m rambling but aksjdfhsja honestly this scene has broken me beyond repair and I for one am so grateful

sometimes media will aggressively spell things out, repeat info over and over and over, because i'm like wow this is clunky, we get it!! we're not dumb! and then i see shit people say when media has literally any hint of subtlety and i'm like 'damn ok i guess i was wrong spell that shit out' lmao

literallyjtgfklds. shows like these do tend to bash you over the head with thingsklgjfs more often than not. i think the writing excels when there's some level of subtlety to it, and it's definitely not something extremely common in things like the 911 franchise bc it's for a wider audience, but that's why push was SO good. for tk and carlos, i think it gave us everything we needed to fill in the blanks AND it gave both characters a way to express their point of view in moments of vulnerability. i don't think we needed to see every second and conversation between the hospital reunion to the loft scene. we know they know how to communicate when they're willing to sit down and do it, a la 2x04, and we'd JUST been given the pieces of the puzzle in the ep to figure out why things happened. clearly, they were going to get on the same page about it... their motivations and priorities at that point are no mystery. i don't want to watch them grovel or 'wade back into' a relationship that was WELL established the previous season. sometimes shit just does happen... and pride gets in the way, and forgiveness isn't actually bad, lol. i get that we all want to see everything with tarlos, but the show isn't showing us their lives 24/7... just specific big moments for entertainment... we'd had enough sit down seriousness for that one and i'm happy with what's happened since. it's been a great season for them.................. and even greater things yet to come i feel

I don't necessarily agree that there was no build up for 3x08 it's just that we got so used to the big Alex/Michael/Malex scenes in the previous seasons never having any positive impact on their future and everything being meaningless that it's now very confusing that so much of their previous growth as a couple and as individuals suddenly had a big payoff in one episode after so much stalling. We've seen Alex open up to Michael a bunch of times before about his feelings/what Michael means to him. 3x08 wasn't new. 1x09, 1x13 and 2x04 were all huge only for the show to immediately undermine them by Michael misunderstanding things for no reason/having no real response/reaction to it after and putting them back to square one over and over again. Now we got a whole episode with them talking from Michael clearly communicating his hurt about Alex shutting him down to them compromising about Deep Sky and the show subverted all of our expectations with Malex actually taking a step forward instead of everything once again turning to shit for more drama. We could have gotten the same exact development a season and a half ago and it wouldn't have been weird at all. It was the show we were originally promised. Now that they put Malex on the same page for the first time ever fingers crossed we get more emotional consistency in storytelling going forward.

The major issue I have is what a lot of people including Tyler and Vlamis expressed, is that the show wrote itself into a corner of it both being absolutely far too long to justifiably have Malex not be together, but also not showing us this season in scenes or dialogue where Malex are at with each other because the show committed to that year long time jump after a season that ended with Michael walking out on Alex's song, and Alex kissing another man and starting the season a year later, still kissing that same man. Yeah, we've had two previous seasons of "build up" but we need more context for right now because based on context clues it seems like Michael and Alex have had no contact for this whole year, not that the show has even bothered to give us that much information. 🙄 So why is Michael hopeful now as opposed to last season when Alex was pouring out his love in a song about Michael? What changed? Who knows! Not us, that's for sure. And Alex is telling he he joined deep sky for Michael, and it's like, bitch where?! When? When he was crying while watching Forrest leave a WEEK ago after talking about exclusivity with him? When he was telling Kyle he considered not joining Deep Sky at all and leaving with Forrest but decided to stay because he needs to know more? But now suddenly it’s because he wants to build a better world for Michael to not be afraid.

It's not that Alex and Michael haven't had the build up for this reunion as characters, it's that we the audience are missing seeing steps or even being TOLD about them and are being expected to fill in the blanks, which is incredibly insulting because it comes across like Malex and their journey isn't an important story to tell because the fans just want them to be together and see them kiss and that's all that matters. Which isn't true! Their journey back to each other matter and fans want to see it. Tyler and Vlamis want to show it! It's a captivating story that deserved to be seen, not just throwing all their romance into one episode and expecting the fans to do ALL the heavy lifting on how they got her based on previous seasons. Little things that wouldn't have taken that much time could have solved so much of this issue too, which makes it even more frustrating! I've talked about this before but things like, Kyle and/or Alex brining up Michael when talking about Alex joining Deep Sky. Alex and Greg talking about Michael when Alex mentions getting out of the military and his new endeavors and talking about Jesse's death of which Michael was a part and Greg was about to take a bullet for him because of how important he knew Michael was to Alex. We got a scene with Kyle, Greg, and Michael and their single connecting thread, Alex, wasn't even mentioned?! Ridiculous. Alex looking at a picture of Michael before going into Deep Sky for the interview. Seeing literally anything from Alex's POV would have been helpful because again, we are getting Malex in a bubble where they only exist for each other when they are together, or when someone else is brining up (or throwing in their face) that they know about Malex's "secret" relationship. And it shouldn't be like that. And yeah, Alex is a "private" character, but he's just that, a character. So we can only ever know what the show tells or shows us, so if Alex isn't allowed to talk to anyone or even have a private moment where we see him thinking about Michael and their relationship, then how do we know what's going on in his head?

And you're absolutely right about their previous interactions not holding weight or carrying over and that's part of the issue as well. We're so used to things happening in a bubble or happening and then not mattering later, but as I said, it's been a year in the show since any of those events, and they aren't even being allowed to talk about them this season either! There's still been no mention of that song Alex sang, or of f*rlex or m*luca and how either of them really felt about that, or addressing those people as the reasons they weren't together before now. I'm hopeful we will get them talking more this season but given what we've seen so far and the show's absolute refusal to hold m*ria accountable for anything, I doubt we will get any real closure on what took so long for them to get together. And because the show won't address the m*ria issue, it's impossible to address the Michael issue and how he picked someone else, who wasn't even nice or kind or helpful or supportive of him, over Alex (who was being all of those things) over, and over, and over. That needs to be addressed in order to heal and move forward but that can't happen as long as m*ria has never done anything wrong ever, or if it IS addressed before the end of the season it will all fall on Michael as entirely his fault and will probably be twisted in some way to prop her up even more as the kind of woman they both want and wish they could have if only they weren't so unfortunately stuck with their cosmic connection to each other.

So yeah, Alex and Michael's story has simultaneously taken 84 unjustifiable years to get to this point, while also not giving us nearly enough present-day information after a year-long time jump to explain how they suddenly are all in and ready to be together now, as opposed to where they were at the end of season 2. By not allowing them to interact or talk to anyone else about what they have been thinking about the other for the entire year time jump and what conclusions they have come to about what and who they want and why, and if they have hope of getting that and why, it feels like their journey this season has been rushed or steps have been skipped. Because there was really no reason for them not to be together at the end of season 2 but that's what c*rina gave us and instead of working to fix that, they've just decided to pretend last season and this year long time jump, and m*ria keeping them apart just...doesn't exist for Alex and Michael. I absolutely do not believe in that "the characters need to earn being together" crap, but the writing absolutely does have to earn the payoff of them getting together. There are emotional beats that needed to be set up, and a build within this season to get to that point and have it mean something. And by benching Malex all season we didn't get the build up of seeing both of them being clowns on the same page of the book called "I want to be with him but he no longer wants to be with me", and without that tension, the big "release" doesn't feel satisfying. And I don't think it's wrong to ask for more from the show that just two pretty guys kissing. Their love story is one for the ages and deserves to be told (actually their Romeo/Juliet warring families set up makes them the most interesting and they should have been the focal point of the show all along but I digress), not just shoehorned in for ratings boosts. It's insulting, not just to the fans or to the Malex story, but also to the actors bringing the story to life who WANT to do more, who are BEGGING to do more with their characters and this story.

Having wildly contradictory thoughts about the new RNM episode and the Malex scene is a mood.

lmao i just... there are things i'm very ???? about and things i'm very !!!!! about and i'm trying to find a middle ground to settle into

part of what i’m struggling with is that we still have no idea where michael and alex currently stand with each other when this scene takes place.

max and liz get this little face to face “oh you’re here” moment, and we already know where they stand with each other. liz has been waiting for max to chase her. max is trying to let her go and push her away to avoid hurting her. but michael and alex are still a COMPLETE mystery. since michael saw alex at the bus stop, i don’t think he even mentioned alex. does he know forrest left town? does he know alex and forrest broke up? did alex and forrest actually break up? is this the first time they’re seeing each other since alex got back? does he know alex left the air force and joined deep sky? have they spoken at all in the time that alex was away? does michael fully think alex doesn’t love him anymore? does alex think michael knew what he was saying with the song and rejected him because he no longer felt that way? how am i supposed to know where they stand with each other emotionally?

so the first half of the scene specifically is giving me some trouble.

like, they don’t have a real reunion. michael surprises alex at his car, gives him a rock, and tells him very casually that he’s getting murdered. and alex laughs, brushes it off as michael going down without a fight. this is weirdly nonchalant in a way i don’t fully understand. i guess it could be read as alex seeing that michael is trying to wallow in this defeatist attitude, especially considering that alex is 110% confident that is isn’t michael who dies, but... they have so many issues with communication, and it just came across as needlessly aloof to me. based on what we’ve seen and heard, they haven’t been anywhere near each other in a year. max is dying, maria is having visions of murder coverups, michael thinks he’s destined to die, and alex is like... lol.

and then it moves into the “you’ve always seen the violence in me” / “what are you talking about” part, which was another weird line for me that i’d need a lot more paragraphs to really dig into for my own understanding of why. and then that segues the conversation into michael’s confession about his father, which is nice in theory. i like that michael willingly offers this information to alex. i like that a lot. but i would have liked “you’ve been looking for proof you’re worthless” a lot more if there was any remotely stable emotional connection between them. but they haven’t seen each other! this doesn’t feel like something you can laugh at to someone you haven’t seen in a year! idk it just didn’t work very well for me.

the dad part was okay, but again i don’t understand why they made alex so aloof about it. alex had a really hard time separating himself from his father. he literally said that whole thing about the mirror in 1x13. he of all people should understand why this is a nuanced thing for michael to deal with. using himself as an example makes sense because it was michael in 2x04 that said the whole “it wasn’t you” thing, but again the whole exchange felt weirdly antagonistic because i just have no idea if they’re even on generally good terms. i would have liked it to be just a little softer, a little gentler.

“i would burn the entire world down first” was nice. i liked that part a lot. that part gave me the chin wobble so i owe it my life.

i didn't realize how long its been since where Echo have had a proper episode dedicated to them. Should I lower my expectations for the great reunion? I mean other couples are getting fed better than us and Echo is the main couple!!

ITS BEEN SO LONG 😭😭😭

Like, it’s hard for me to even pinpoint. 2x06 or 2x07? I struggle to call 2x07 an Echo episode because it was an Ortecho Familia episode and Max was really just supporting, MAYBE 2x08… but I feel like that’s more Echo and Charlie? Definitely NOT 2x10-2x13…there were Echo moments, but they weren’t central to the narrative TOGETHER. So 2x06 is where I would land…. And Max wasn’t himself for most of that episode.

I am with you on the high expectations, but I’d also definitely recommend tempering them a bit. One thing I have to constantly remind myself is that anything that I yell about in my speculation convos with my friends is probably going to be a thousand times better than what we see on screen. And that’s okay. But let me tell you, this season has been a lot closer to my expectations than S2 ☺️

Regarding the other side of your ask…as a general rule, I don’t think it’s healthy or fair to compare what one ship gets versus another. It creates an environment of competition between the ships, and frankly? With this fandom? We get drowned out enough as it is. We don’t need to make it worse for ourselves.

I also generally don’t want to talk much about other ships on my blog. Just…it’s such a cesspool of negativity in some corners of this fandom and I don’t want the heat.

But I will reiterate what I sort of said last night and say that I can’t fault those shippers for being happy that they were fed. I mean, their ship casually hooked up in 1x02 and really haven’t since? They certainly haven’t been “together” at all on the show except for maybe the flashbacks in 2x04. So I’m happy for my friends on that side of the aisle that they’re happy.

That being said, if I was hard core into that ship I’d probably be struggling with the content they got last week. It wasn’t supported by the narrative leading up to the episode. They’ve been highly critical of each other this season (and really going back to last season too…think that awful bunker scene…). They remained highly critical of each other throughout the episode last week. Also just…the lazy, problematic dialogue was…not great. Generally if you’re gonna write a character as enlisted military you want to 1) not forget their physical disability that you wrote into the narrative (see 3x03) and 2) actually know facts about the war they were fighting in. Like…that whole Taliban thing on this week of all weeks was a bad look. Like…no joke…I literally spent Mon afternoon while waiting for the episode watching a documentary about the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, because I felt like I should better educate myself since I spent most of the Bush presidency with my fingers stuck in my ears avoiding politics.

Working together is a good step for them that does make sense for where they’re at. So is open, honest dialogue. But frankly I think it would have been better for them if they had taken steps towards each other WITHOUT getting physical. Because that’s been their default their entire relationship…jump straight into this intense physical thing without taking the time to actually understand each other. And as I mentioned in my other ask…a couple getting together in episode 8 doesn’t necessarily bode well for how the season is going to end for them…think Echo’s arc in season 1.

Anyway, that’s way more than I wanted to say about them. The IMPORTANT thing to me is that we’re getting Max back this week and God have I missed him. And when he gets pulled out of the pod, I cannot wait for the heart eyes and the teamwork.

top 5 Rio moments

Wow - can I just say all of them?  Fine I guess if I have to pick 5, here are some of faves:

1: Rio meeting Beth, Ruby, and Annie about Eddie in 1x04 - I love how Rio switches between being more curt and snarky with Ruby and Annie to almost flirty with Beth.  There’s something just so great about scenes with all four of these characters and I love that Rio is having fun here - especially when he starts pulling the money out of his pocket (side note the music in this scene is perfect).  Also it features one of my favorite Rio smiles:

2: The dealership scene in 2x04 with Dean and Beth - Chaotic Rio who knows he has the upper-hand might be my favorite Rio energy (and probably Beth’s least favorite haha).  And this scene is just perfect to me from Rio dramatically pop out of the corvette talking about the ugly-ass ostrich interior to his iconic “Come on Ma, it’s too good” to him smashing the cars to his and Dean’s HR exchange.  Honestly this might be one of my favorite scenes of the entire series.

3: Rio being a boss in 3x04 - aka the moment I have been waiting for since 1x03.  I just enjoy seeing Rio in boss mode and operating his business - including him intimidating Gil, Beth’s employee.  Plus this scene was a great vehicle for Rio discovering Beth’s counterfeit business.

4: Rio’s “I flip my game” speech in 1x06 - There’s something special about this scene that I can’t really articulate.  I just love it.  I love that weird little leg switch thing Rio does before he stands up to “teach” the girls, I love the speech he makes, I love how he has to add a little dig at the girls at the end, and I love how he decides to up the drop at the end because Beth “delivered” (especially since this is done right against Dean dismissing Beth).  And it’s one of my favorite Rio looks.

5: The Beth/Rio/Dean showdown in 1x10/2x01 - Ugh these scenes - just so well done and they are perfect to me.  There’s just the right level of tension throughout and it’s just satisfying to watch.  Plus this scene features probably my favorite Rio look (black t-shirt, slightly bruised and bloody - yes I know I have problems) and two of my favorite Rio speeches - the “This stuff’s medieval, darlin’” monologue and the “You want to get down in the dirt so badly, but you wanna keep your hands clean” monologue.  Manny (and Christina and Matthew) just nail this scene.  10/10 would recommend.

And because I’m choosing to ignore the concept of “top five” enjoy some more favorites:

6: The hip-shift in 2x04 -  Look - this could have easily been number one, but I was trying to be a classy lady.  I just love the intensity in Rio’s gaze as he watches Beth play with her hair and I love how he just kinda rocks back and forth on the stool.  It’s good shit.

7: Rio making model airplanes in 3x01 - I never knew I needed a scene where Rio was in a t-shirt (!!!) casually making a model airplane for his son while describing said airplane as “dope.”  But now that I have it I cherish dearly.

8: Rio’s reunion with Marcus in 3x02 - He brought him the plane he made!  That hug!  The smile!  Him asking if Marcus was “hoopin’”.  I just really enjoyed this little glimpse into the softer side of Rio that the show had never shown before.

9: Rio checking out of the hotel in 3x01 - 98% of this is based on Rio saying “neat” while making that stupid face, the other 2% is him asking about his point status.  

10: Rio saying ‘Yo’ in 2x05 - This list wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t include this moment (and I know McCall would be disappointed in me too).  Honestly I just find Manny’s line delivery hysterical especially since he’s like dragging over a chair to the girls’ table when he says it.  It is un-ironically one of my favorite Rio lines.  

11: Rio, Ruby, and Annie on the park bench in 2x10 - The comedy trio of my dreams.  I love how relaxed Rio is versus how anxious Ruby and Annie are, I love the great face acting happening here, I love them.
