everyday i wake up and think about how anya uses the phrase "our worst moments don't make us monsters" vs how jimmy uses it. the way they use this phrase is so similar and yet so so different.

anya says she has to believe it. it's a lifeline, a thread she desperately clings to. she needs to believe it to keep herself sane while trapped with her rapist as she tries to keep her captain, who failed her when she tried to reach out for help (not even considering the fact that she's under the impression that he crashed the ship. this gives her a whole other reason to be upset with him), alive through his suffering.

jimmy has to believe it as well, even though he doesn't say that directly. he uses it as a lifeline, but in a different way from anya. he needs to reassure himself that he's a good person, that all the horrible things he's done are absolved because of it. he crashed the ship after realizing the woman he sexually assaulted got pregnant as a result of his actions. but our worst moments don't make us monsters, right?

anya uses the phrase to cope through living with a monster. jimmy uses the phrase as a monster trying to deny what he is.

every time i watch that final shape zavala cutscene with safiyah statue im speechless over how good it is. Lighting (Danny o'hailey i owe you my life)?? Expressions and animation?? It has movie worthy cinematic value to me i would DEVOUR a series like this cutscene.

I admittedly have a strong attachment to Swansea. He was able to get sober and stay that way, even if he wasn't truly happy like that. Staying sober is hard. There's a lot of alcoholism in my family, even I drink socially to some degree, and unfortunately at least one family member did not survive their alcoholism. Mostly anyone that does drink heavily in my family have either slowed down in their older age due to health concerns or know how to function with it. But Swansea got to a low point and said "That's enough." on his own.

And it breaks my heart entirely that the only happiness he got out of his time being alive was through the bottle. Because I knew exactly what he was talking about. It feels good, it's a warm fuzzy band-aid, it makes you forget or not think too hard about anything else besides that good feeling or the hangover. I hate that. It was so devastating to hear.

But one thing that made me happy is that even though he was drunk off mouthwash, he still cared, he cared enough about at least one person on the ship hoping he'd have a true chance at life he saw that no one else would or should have. Curly was in such a bad condition, Jimmy was a loser piece of garbage he saw through, and Anya...he knew Anya didn't want to and shouldn't have to live through her trauma. So the only viable option was Daisuke, the youngest of the crew who had barely started his life. What hurts me more is that I'd've done that too. I'm tired mentally and emotionally. I've been traumatized and probably will be much more, but hey kid, you still might have a chance, however slim that is. Sometimes I think about what it was that made him start drinking to begin with. What was he trying to forget? What caused the bad feelings he wanted to chase away bottle after bottle? Was it just learned behavior? Or maybe it's both.

Remembering the time I tried to say something I genuinely enjoyed about totk and got talked over with whatever they disliked about it. Anyway not that you can't criticize a game but can you shut the fuck up every now and then? Just a little bit like please shut the fuck up.

Anyways, what I like about TotK are the side adventures and implied world-building you get through exploring all three maps, especially the depths. I think they gave a lot of life to the world and it's fun to theorize what was going on with the zonai and finding all of misko's treasures. I love the ambience and the music and the art — general things that I loved about botw.

Also last year I got the chance to write a little college essay about magatama and how the story behind the secret stones relate to how the magatama became one of the Imperial treasures. It was genuinely one of the most fun papers I got to write because I got to research and learn about a culture and mythology I rarely get to read about, and I wouldn't have even thought to research the narrative of the magatama if it wasn't for totk.

Only a few days ago I started thinking about this.

Like I believe Tinky wouldn't be so hateful and angry if one of them killed him. (Maybe sad, scared or confused that he upset them in some way) But apparently this friendship isn't equal.

And I also think about how Po, Cave, Laa-Laa, and lake Dipsy have normal monster screams (I'm not sure what I would call Yeti's is but Arrow like growls) but Tinky's to me sounds like a person. *We don't talk about Tinky Tank but that's still just the scream slowed down*
