You can clearly tell as per the author’s note that it’s a very personal book to her though.#The world/narrative of the book is very generic tropey romantasy and like that’s intentional #but also it does essentially become the plot for a lot of the book and I’m not super interested in that.#It does come back to the concept eventually but I just was never super invested #I did have some criticisms about how she was saying her book is YA when it’s clearly NA/A - the characters are mid 20s!#and she kept calling it silly YA fluff and dismissive things…….but maybe that’s an intentional choice bc of [plot twist]? idk….#the sheer amount of times she called her characters her darlings got a bit grating to me #some decent exploration of ace identity I guess.#tho it's in an alloace kind of way and didn't personally resonate with me much #I kinda feel like something more interesting and subersive could have been done with her relationship with the kinda-love-interest #('kinda' in that he's dating the character whose body she's in and there's attraction there but it doesn't quite go anywhere and also #i mean. is he even real in the end)#also pretty graphic su*cide attempt scene as a warning #asexual books

I love letting other people watch things first and then give feedback about it so I can gauge whether or not I want to spend time on it. Truly could not give fewer fucks about spoilers. If the story is good I will still have a fantastic time.

#avatar the last airbender #it's really not looking like it's worth it #like it's high production value #but the complaints are about things that are really dealbreakers to me #they broke the plot and character development in bad ways that make them very different characters and events #the clips i've seen are visually stunning but have a marvelesque feeling of lackluster meaningless platitudes #oh yes we should definitely fight the evil and resist it and save the weak by getting stronger!#it's like someone watched/read some shonen or generic YA dystopian action and missed the entire point #maybe altogether it would be better but the way suki and sokka move in their training clips lacks weight #like they do not move like they know how to fight #no offense to the actors but i think this show really needed heavy martial arts training for all involved #and maybe they got it but they needed to really internalize the weight shifts and the way you put force behind strikes #that and seeing all the breakdowns of sokka and aangs modified arca is just disheartening #anyhow #on the other hand #heaven officals blessing #has been very worth #also i wish i could watch the donghua for #grandmaster of demonic cultivation #but i need to download the chinese spyware app or pay extra extra money on youtube to sub to the tencent channel #i think i am nust fond of the stuff mxtx writes #i should learn mandarin to read the og #i wonder if i would talk like a fanfic if i did that #like someone would hear it and be like i Know where you learned that and i sham't say it #mo xiang tong xiu

#for a world and ocs I barely talk about no less #cinnamon and hazel I promise I’ll give yall actual updated designs some day idk when but eventually maybe #I can’t promise I’ll ever actually write their story or make a short comic like I wanted to because I can’t write lmao #I do have the short story figured out and roughly plotted out #the story also doesn’t have a name because naming shit is hard #I sometimes call it sugar and spice but that name is far too like generic and common to be a proper story name ya know?#(it’s called sugar and spice because the characters are Cinnamon Sugar and Hazel Spice btw)#the gist is that Cinnamon is a fairy witch (a witch studying to be a fairy godparent) and Hazel was a pumpkin that got turned into a person #and now Cinnamon is tasked with helping her get accustomed to life as a living concious being along with the pumpkin farmers that grew her #and adopted her as their child #their names are Gourdon and Jackie O’Lantern and they’re two lesbians who have a pumpkin farm!#I am so attached to these ocs and their world I made them during a rlly difficult time when I was like 17 or 18 and latched onto them #heavily #that’s also when I created my oc Cashmere #also fairy godparent is like a career it’s a job that faeries and witches can study for and have #some fairy godparents ar treated with high esteem and others are treated like servants and maids it depends on the place you’re at #tooth fairies are dentists btw #so fairy = job and faerie = the being #I have a whole world building doc I need to like read over edit and update of like world building lore #also most whimsy folk are named after flora fauna and foods (mostly sweets) not all of them it’s not like a rule they have but it’s just #like a common naming convention for them #sorry I keep editing this with more info

You know me. I like barely ever show any NOT SAFE FOR WORK drawings on here. So instead, I'm sharing drawings of my face AS I was drawing each NOT SAFE FOR WORK thing.

And the subject is right there, smack dab in the middle. Being tormented by the sins of the egg. (I drew him really cute but I can't share the rest.)

ALSO, I'd like to state that it's not corngraphic except like two maybe, it's more so like violent. We are all just having fun beating this guy up. Like, step right up and stomp on his face type shih. I never ever ever draw violent stuff, unless it's lewling related, so this is like cathartic.

This uhh feeling will fade after Halloween hopefully and we'll go back to our regularly scheduled wholesomeness and cammypus.

YA sff set in the near future where an opensource augmented reality is commonly used like social media, and there’s also a completely virtual fantasy game version

follows an Anishinaabe girl who who’s the top player in the VR game, and is constantly fighting to keep her place against the misogynist neo-nazi group in second place

as well as her real life, dealing with being a shy and self-conscious teen growing up on the Rez, and her brother having cancer

and a Uyghur boy who’s moved to her community from China after finding acceptance in an online community (even when he doesn’t agree with their more extreme views) - but when he gets to know Bugz, he has to decide who truly deserves his loyalty

great mix of sff and culture, the future while also very real community traumas of the past (and present)

#walking in two worlds #the everlasting road #wab kinew #aroaessidhe 2024 reads #This has some REALLY interesting and important concepts!#I just think it could have used some more development… Obvs this is YA and I’m an adult I know I’m not quite the audience!#There’s a lot of depth in the setup of the characters but I feel like it skips a lot of the progression #I think there could have been space for more development in a lot of places to make the story feel more dimensional #- but also has so many plot threads that maybe that would have bulked it out too much #It does also jump around quite a bit between the different parts but I think that makes sense with how juggling with irl / online life.#she’s got a lot of internalised fatphobia at the start (and the love interest going “I don’t think you’re fat!!” when people call her fat..#then in book 2 suddenly she’s okay about it - again I wish there was some progression!#her brothers cancer journey is. basically all offscreen lol mostly as set up for plot in book 2. so it doesn't have the emotional impact it #could have..#I liked the way it integrates her culture into the game in a really cool way (though I would have liked more detail there)#also having auto language translators but they regularly don't translate quite right / still run into issues - realistic!#the parallels drawn between his being taken from his family and put in a state education school and Indigenous residential schools #the way that a future world will never be as separate from the past as ur average sff future often portrays #but yeah anyway lots of good ideas execution not so much for me..

i do not fuck with into darkness’ “let’s remake wrath of khan but backwards and racist!” but i will say, that death scene is fucking stellar. right up until they have spock scream KHAAAAN, that’s super fucking cringe

so it’s a mixed bag

#whats worse is that into darkness already has a plot of its own until the WOK stuff rears its embarrassing ugly whitewashed head #its some section 31 shit and something symbolic about terrorism? i can't remember #but the point is they had something else going on and they didn't need to get khan involved #like its a reboot series in an alternate timeline and they resorted to trying to redo the original movies most popular movie?#thats gutless. do anything else #2009 and beyond were mixed bags too but at least they were their own thing #and much. much much much better. oh and the colour grading in into darkness is fucking shit. get fucked #ya know. maybe the WOK remaking stuff would be tolerable if they got an indian guy to play khan. but noooo #we got that walking yogurt mould #bruh i was into benedict cumberbatch when that movie happened and i still did not fuck with that choice. like thats awful

i feel like this season of h/dm has gotten considerably worse but also i'm not 100% sure i'm remembering the previous seasons correctly. i remember mostly liking them and just finding some things weird. but maybe it was just as bad as this season and the amount of time that's passed since i watched them has simply made me forget how much stuff i didn't like

#i think i'm pretty fucking easy to please with tv shows too like i don't have a very critical eye for this kinda stuff #but maybe it's because it's a book adaptation and as always we gotta feel strongly about those #i just feel like the dialogue is absolute shit like who is even writing this - did it change? maybe it was always shit idk #and just random plot changes that i hate #some big some small but like #why was lyra the only fucking one experiencing pain on the boat!!!! that's straight up not canon and literally makes no sense w/in canon #and we got our first glimpse of atal and there was zero indication that she uses a wheel #it didn't even look like she could i mean she had four normal hooves #the seeds are so important to the story what are they doing with this!!!!#maybe we'll see them using wheels next episode but idk how #idk the acting is still mostly good imo #i feel like the actors are doing their best with very fucking stupid scenes #anyway all of this is just sorta making me feel like maybe this just isn't an adaptable book series #at least not as a tv show where you have to stretch things out so much so they're just inventing bullshit to fill the gaps #hdm lb #i hadn't really wanted to make a tag for this but #there have already been so many things i've wanted to complain about here and i'm sure it will only continue #so ya know blacklist as needed (esp if you're enjoying the show - i'm so sorry i don't want to ruin ur experience)#edit: OH i forgot to complain about costuming/makeup too!!!#shouldn't be a big issue but god it's also (imo) just hot fucking garbage in this season #did they get the non-unionized people??? overworked and underpaid??#did they have zero budget for this fucking hbo show???#i feel like they didn't even fucking try #those ugly orange jumpsuits and the horrible makeup for the angels #okay sorry i will stop complaining now (until there's more episodes next week lmao)

cats is a great example of a show that doesn't work as a movie because all of the magic of it is in the live performance (the costumes, the dance numbers, the absurdity of it all) and dear evan hansen is a great example of a show that doesn't work as a movie because the show sucks

#I'm rewriting deh and i kinda switched alana and evan's personalities and made the show not a feel good sewer slide awareness thing #Like really it just doesn't work as a type of feel good thing ya know #The way Evan got dragged into the lie and KEPT IT GOING with Zoe being part of the reason he couldn't tell the truth #All strikes some sort of red flags in me you know #And the movie made it worse like what the hell #This isn't gonna JUST be feel good because you will be found exists #It's all based on a lie that Evan knew Connor and kept it going because it saves lives or whatever #And the movie paints Evan as the good guy like he's the hero and guess what HES NOT #And this was even relevant that he's a terrible person but also a good one in the original and it adds to the plot that Evan is both the #Protagonist and the villain him being a bad person is why deh so meaningful to people #And NO CHOREOGRAPHY??? NOT EVEN IN FOR FOREVER???? WHERE THE IDEAL MV IS WHAT THEY'RE DESCRIBING IN THE SONG????#what is wrong with them oh my god #A deh movie could work but not in THAT way #The book portrayed this better where it shows connor's pov it would've been better if the movie was an adaption of the book #Rewriting deh felt like beating content out of the deh fandom with a stick cuz I needed more material to work with and make everything have #A purpose because at some points I had gotten too self indulgent and I think I made it pretty edgy and I was into milgram while rewriting i #So I may have made Evan too similar to amane BUT IT'S STILL BETTER THEN THE SHOW ITSELF #(And there's so little content of the off Broadway version so trying to keep true to the original without knowing what the off Broadway #Version was like was like making a Connor project of my own)
