JJK 225 spoilers
If I said Gojo losing his head was foreshadowed in the manga, would you believe me?
No?
Check out the following panels!
That’s Gojo’s dialogue to Toji in chapter 74. Wait there’s more!
Check out the following image, Gojo always seemed too intent on cutting the head off!
Now, let’s look at the one from the current chapter!
Now, now, despite all of this, I believe that Gojo will survive this battle mostly. Not copium! This is based on what Akutami said before and some narrative potential.
I also wrote a VERY DETAILED article on how Sukuna was able to defeat Gojo’s domain expansion, because there’s more to the defeat than what meets the eye.
Hear this out; GOJO WOULD HAVE LOST NO MATTER WHAT!! Curious why?

Towards a theory of linguistic curiosity: applying linguistic frameworks to lingcomm and scicomm - New Open Access research article in Linguistics Vanguard
The latest Special Issue of Linguistics Vanguard is all about Public Outreach in Linguistics, and includes articles from some of my favourite lingcommers and about some of my favourite projects. There are articles from Planet Word and the Linguistics Roadshow team, as well as podcasting, courtrooms and high school clubs.
As the editors of this special issue, Laura Wagner and Georgia Zellou, note in their introduction to the collection:
[P]ublic engagement in the domain of language does not (currently!) have a well-established presence in society; compare it, for example, to the range of high-profile engagement activities to be found in Astronomy. Some of the reasons for this lack are institutional – most academic researchers don’t get credit for engagement work the way they do for writing traditional research papers. But the field also lacks an engagement infrastructure: we have few ways of learning about who is doing it, what’s been found to be effective, and connections for building engagement collaborations.
It's exciting to see lingcomm practitioners begin to articulate the work that goes into what they produce, and to build a shared understanding of the value of lingcomm.
As part of this collection of articles, I'm delighted that I am coauthor on a paper with Gretchen McCulloch on the value of 'curiosity' as a linguistic value that can be observed and analysed. This is a theory Gretchen has been working on for a while, and I'm delighted that she invited me along to turn this into an article we can share. It captures the expansive approach to the value of linguistic theory to the production of lingcomm content, and the ways that lingcomm can benefit from studying excellent scicomm in other domains.
Abstract
Linguistics communication (lingcomm) is uniquely placed as a branch of science communication (scicomm), as lingcomm practitioners can reflexively draw on our own discipline of linguistics to further our understanding of effective communication practices with broader audiences. In this article we cut across various sub-disciplines of linguistics to look at syntactic, semantic, and discourse practices that make for compelling communication. We refer to this as the way a text incites curiosity, or the value of “curiosity”, by analogy with “grammaticality” and “felicity” as linguistic concepts. We look at an example text with high curiosity in scicomm, before highlighting key linguistic features of curiosity. We also show how we implement these in our own lingcomm work, and discuss the implications for effective lingcomm. We conclude with potential avenues for exploring curiosity in scicomm and lingcomm, and the importance of linguists contributing to public understanding of language.

intertwined ~🐕🦺
🦋 category: one-shot
🦋 characters: megumi, minor ijichi and shoko, mentioned yuuji and nobara
🦋 summary: a late night mission which caused something completely unexpected to happen between you and megumi, letting you see a side to him you have never seen
🦋 warnings: nil
🦋 notes: istg i had to rewatch scenes of megumi’s shikigamis just to see if they had shadows to them for the sake of this story… it was 2am and i had work the next day LMAOOOO. and yes megumi’s shikigamis have shadows to them (jjk s1 ep8, megumi vs todo)
cursed technique - shadow manipulation
domain expansion - phantom illusion. it allows the user to be able to use the shadow of anything and morph them into any desired shape or form, or form them all into a spear to be driven through the enemy for a sure hit
pros - shadows are everywhere, the physical strength of it depends on the owner of the shadow, or how strong is the item, with the exception of shadows in domain expansion.
cons - the durability also depends on how clear the shadow is, the clearer the stronger. if the user uses their own shadow, they will feel whatever their shadow feels, they will get chopped in half if their shadow got chopped in half
It was the middle of the night, in the middle of the heavy rain, and somehow, the higher ups figured that it was perfectly fine to let two first years go on a mission on a school night. They had robbed you of a good night’s sleep and had you thrown alongside Megumi for a mission. They were insane.
You and Megumi were the unlucky ones. Nobara was already fast asleep and the higher ups didn’t want to risk anything going wrong with Yuji, though it had made zero sense in your head that something would go wrong with Yuji in the middle of the night. Did they think that Sukuna would just appear at night like he was a vampire? The higher ups had no brain it seems. Could they have not asked someone else? Did they have to really send young children?
At least you were paired with Megumi, the only sane person among all of the first years, aside from you of course. It can’t be so bad, his technique was amazing.
You and Megumi were good friends. Mostly stuck to each other when Yuji and Nobara were up to their usual stupid stuff. If they weren’t, then Megumi wouldn’t mind being around Yuji. You and Megumi were mostly serious, the complete opposite of Yuji and Nobara. Sometimes, it led you to wonder how all four of you managed to even get along. It seemed so impossible. It was as if Nanami and Gojo suddenly became actual best friends.
The light from the street lamp was the only thing guiding you and Megumi as the both of you made your way around. You examined the area, trying to find out what in the world had just happened. The wreckage was scattered all over the ground and not a single part was free from the debris. It was caused by a grade 2 cursed spirit. If a grade 2 could cause this kind of damage, you had feared just what a special grade could do. You were a grade 3 sorcerer, obviously no match for a special grade curse.
“What do you think the cursed spirit does?” You asked, entering the area of destruction after a curtain was put up.
All you and Megumi knew was that the cursed spirit could create strong gusts of winds with a mere flick of its hands. It was strong enough to send several sumo wrestlers flying like they were mere sheets of paper.
“Don’t know, stay alert,” Megumi responded, summoning his Divine Dog right after.
The dark place was extremely advantageous to you. Clear shadows everywhere. It was basically your territory. A knife laid still on the ground, its shadow menacingly clear as you brought it to life. The huge shadow blade floated in the air above you while you and Megumi scanned the surrounding areas, waiting for the cursed spirit to show itself. The both of you stood back to back, eyes on high alert, analysing the area around the both of you.
The ground beneath the both of you began to shake. Your eyes darted to the ground with your shadow knife ready to attack. The floor broke as the cursed spirit rose, causing you and Megumi to both jump backwards. Almost on instinct, you sent your shadow blade after the creature, trying to slice it, or chop off a bit of it. The cursed spirit growled in pain before seemingly healing itself.
Well, crap.
Megumi stared at the seemingly ginormous and invincible cursed spirit standing before him, sending his Divine Dog after it. You stared at his face, it seemed that he wanted to send out another of his shadow creatures. “Careful, Fushiguro,” you said, carefully eyeing the enemy.
“I’ll be fine,” Megumi replied, “You take care of yourself.”
You began to slowly grow concerned for the boy standing before you. You knew what kind of person he was. He was not someone you would trust when it came to ensuring his own safety.
Suddenly, a strong gust of wind swept you off your feet, sending you flying towards the ceiling. Megumi stared at the scene unfolding before him, shocked as the cursed spirit charged towards you, ready to kick you down onto the ground, the impact surely breaking more than just a few bones.
“Nue!” Megumi ordered as his shikigami flew towards your rescue, saving you from the nasty foot of the cursed spirit.
“Fushiguro!” You called out, “Thank you!” Clinging onto the back of Nue, you tried to create a shadow out of the broken pieces of a chair and have them slice through the cursed spirit. That didn’t cause much damage as the cursed spirit managed to recover from the wounds you had inflicted. You needed to find a stronger object with a clear shadow if you wanted any shot of killing that thing. Megumi’s Divine Dog was busy trying to attack the cursed spirit on the ground while he summoned more of his shikigami frogs to try and restrain the cursed spirit.
You suddenly had an idea. “Fushiguro! Let me borrow your shadows for a while!” Megumi stared at you in confusion, before watching as his shikigamis’ and his own shadow leaving his body and standing on its own, ready to attack the cursed spirit. Double the army, double the chances. You hopped down from Nue and stood beside Megumi, waiting to attack together when the time was right.
“Do you think it's alright to attack now?” You asked, watching the cursed spirit fighting the tongues of Megumi’s shikigamis and your shadows. Megumi’s Divine Dog and your shadows seemed to be putting up a good fight as well, jumping and attacking at all the right times.
“3…” Megumi began.
“2..” You continued.
“1!” The both of you shouted in unison before charging up your cursed energy and getting ready to fist fight that creature to exorcise it. Megumi stood behind it while you stood in front, ready to throw a punch at the same time as Megumi.
The one part of the cursed spirit that wasn’t restrained was its mouth, and it used it to their advantage. Suddenly, a strong gust of wind appeared and swept you off your feet, sending you flying towards a wall. Your shadows all frozen, as you had stopped controlling them due to you being shocked at the surprise attack which caused your mind to blank out.
“Shit!” You cursed softly, trying to regain your composure and control over your shadows, forming them all into one huge ball of shadows to defend yourself from the upcoming attack from the cursed spirit. It was going to kick you into a wall, sending a bone shattering attack that has a really good chance at killing you. Your shadow ball wasn’t going to come to your aid so soon, you could watch as the foot of the cursed spirit came closer and closer to you. You squeezed your eyes shut and waited for the dreadful impact.
Only for your eyes to open when you felt something wrapping itself to your waist and forcefully pulling you away. The next thing you know, you were inside one of Megumi’s shikigami frogs. “Thanks Fushiguro!” You thanked him for his rescue effort before crawling out of the frog and getting back on your feet.
The cursed spirit did not seem to be backing down any time soon. Megumi once again tried to restrain the cursed spirit but it had seen through your tricks. It grabbed the tongue of one of the frogs and began to swing it towards you. The sudden move had caught you completely off guard as you tried to avoid getting hit, but the swing was simply too fast for you to avoid. The cursed spirit seemed hell bent on slamming you against a wall, and it achieved just that. Megumi could not dispel his frogs in time, nor were you able to jump out of the way in time, resulting in a bone shattering and wall breaking smash.
“Ah!” You screamed, feeling the impact as your body fell weakly onto the concrete floor. Pieces of the wall fell down, landing around you. It was a stroke of luck that none had managed to land a hit on the back of your head.
“Y/n!” Megumi shouted while trying to fend for himself against the enemy.
This had to be your hardest battle to date. Was the spirit really a grade 2?
The cursed spirit now had its attention on a panicked Megumi. You looked up and saw that he had summoned Max Elephant. The gush of water filled the room, making you drown and scrambling about for air. It wasn’t because you could not swim, you were just too weak to move.
“Fushiguro!” You yelled, watching as the cursed spirit moved, barely affected by the water. Megumi gritted his teeth and tried to have Max Elephant stomp on it as his frogs held the cursed spirit in place.
You tried to manipulate the shadow of Max Elephant so that there would be more attacks being given to the cursed spirit. Your body was still weakened from the smash and your shoulder was bleeding. It hadn’t escaped Megumi’s view, he looked worried about your injuries.
The cursed spirit punched a hole in one of the walls, allowing for the water to escape. The sudden current had foiled Megumi’s plans to squash the cursed spirit as he was now being swept away. You were too. Megumi had to dispel his shikigamis just in case one of them hit him in the process of being swept away. You tried to swim your way out of it but the current was too strong. The cursed spirit remained unaffected and sent a kick towards Megumi, kicking him towards a wall as it did to you previously.
“Fushiguro!” You screamed in panic, your eyes switching from Megumi and the cursed spirit.
You forced yourself on your feet, while slowly questioning if the curse was indeed a grade 2. There was just no way. You managed to barely stand on your own legs before making a run for it, running behind the cursed spirit as it focused on attacking Megumi. You had to help him somehow… You saw how Megumi was struggling physically from being attacked over and over… The cursed spirit seemed to view Ten Shadows as a bigger threat than your shadow manipulation.
Megumi looked like he was at his limit with his strength as he stood, “With this treasure… I–”
“Domain Expansion – Phantom illusion!” You announced, not realising that Megumi was in the process of summoning one of his shikigamis.
Your domain was much less underdeveloped than Megumi’s, so using it was a huge gamble. The shadows around began to come together, you still have a long way to go before mastering the guaranteed kill aspect of it. For now, all you could manage was blending, morphing the shadows however you liked. Now, you just wanted to make all of the shadows large enough to take on the cursed spirit. This had to end as soon as possible, you were worried that Megumi would be unable to handle it any longer. The cursed spirit seemed stunned at the sudden domain as Megumi watched on, preparing to summon his own domain in case yours collapsed, you could see the concerned look on Megumi’s face. He knew your domain was a lot underdeveloped and using it at your current state could just drain your body. You knew that using your domain had risks, but right now, you simply don’t care. The giant and buff shadows you had combined and morphed from Megumi’s shikigamis began to attack the cursed spirit, giving it no chance to return any attack. At last, it was finally losing a fight. The cursed spirit was finally weakened and brought to the ground, as you deliver a final punch, filled with as much cursed energy as you could muster up. The cursed spirit could only let out a screech before dissolving into dust, disappearing from sight. Your domain was also gone.
Your breaths became even more irregular, unable to relax. Your knees gave in as you heard Megumi screaming your name. “Y/n?! Damn it…” The panic in his voice was something that could be easily missed if it was not for the fact that you had always paid more attention to the things Megumi said to you.
You and Megumi barely managed to leave, both too weakened by the fight to move like a proper human. You and Megumi could only hold on to each other for support, but the both of you having the equal amount of strength and being on the verge of collapsing was not a good sign. Mr Ijichi stared at the state of both you and Megumi, confused and worried. He had not expected that the both of you would seem so worn out by a fight against a grade 2. You were not even sure if it was a real grade 2 at this point. It still got exorcised before the deaths of you and Megumi anyway.
“I’ll send the both of you to Ieiri right now!” Said Mr Ijichi as he quickly ushered the both of you into the car that drove the both of you to this hell of a mission.
You leaned against the comfort of the seat, glad that the mission was finally over. You clutched your bleeding arm, finally allowing the pain to show on your face. Perhaps it was the domain expansion weakening you to the point where your body just does not seem to be able to handle it. Megumi watched in worry, seeing how your eyes remained closed and your breathing sounded pained.
“How much longer?” Megumi asked, doing his best to mask the worry that coated itself in every word he said.
Mr Ijichi took a while to respond, but his answer was not one you had liked to hear. “It might take a while. Ieiri is busy at the moment, she’s trying to rush over.”
You could hear a sigh coming from Megumi as he tried to rest. “Fushiguro, you alright?” You decided to ask despite feeling like you could just collapse any moment.
“Y/n, I am fine, go and take some rest,” he replied, his voice suddenly sounding softer than usual. Perhaps he was tired as well. Maybe he needed the rest he was telling you about.
You could only muster up a smile before telling him to rest as well, seeing as the both of you had really needed it. It seemed to humour you that Megumi was telling you to rest when he needed it as well.
It took a while to arrive at your new destination, Mr Ijichi slowly guided the both of you into the place where Ms Ieiri worked. She was still nowhere to be seen, meaning that she had to be living quite the distance away. Mr Ijichi led the both of you into a room filled with medical equipment and a few tables in which you assumed were for dead bodies. After that, he quietly closed the door behind him as he took a long, and important call outside.
Your arm was still bleeding out, you noticed some of Megumi’s wounds bleeding out as well. You had no idea when Ms Ieiri was going to arrive to use her reversed cursed technique. You had no idea if you could hang on with your shoulder any longer. Your eyes darted about and landed on a box of first aid.
“Do you need it?” Megumi asked, noticing your sight landing on the red box that remained in the cabinet high up. “I… think I can reach it.”
You nodded, signalling for him to retrieve the box. It was high, but for a boy his height, it was no issue. He could retrieve it with ease. You could try and retrieve it if it was not for the fact that your shoulder was too much of an issue to reach for something high up. “Thanks Fushiguro,” you sent him a small smile as you tried to take the box from him when he was walking back.
“I don’t think you can fix your shoulder like this,” said Megumi, sitting down beside you. He motioned for you to turn and face him as he opened up the first aid kit.
“Seriously Fushiguro, i can handle this,” You replied, reaching your hand towards the box. Megumi blocked your hands as his eyes looked up, before his whole face turned to look at you. “Let me do it Y/n,” he requested. Though it did not sound like you had any choice.
“Fine,” you had no choice but to give in to Megumi.
His hands gently gripped onto your arm, trying to examine the severity of your injury. “Do you mind if I… rip your sleeves?” Megumi asked, looking at your sleeve, which was already slightly ripped. You nodded, it was already ripped anyway, what was the harm in a bigger rip?
The sound of your sleeve being torn apart was the only sound that filled the room. Silence was exchanged between you and Megumi, neither of you being interested in breaking the silence. His gentle, yet firm grip was the only thing you could feel on your skin. The way his fingers glided smoothly… Megumi slowly wiped the dry blood from your shoulders as you could only watch him do his work. You could feel every movement made by the cotton as the dried blood was slowly leaving the surface of your skin. You could feel your heart thumping against your chest. Every beat was made clear to you, the sound loud and vibrant. You could only look away from Megumi as you began to feel the heat rising in your cheeks.
“Y/n, why?” Megumi suddenly asked, his eyes shifting away from your wounded shoulders to meet your avoiding eyes.
The question came out of nowhere and you finally turned to face Megumi and his question. “Why what?”
He took in a deep breath, his calm demeanour almost causing you to overthink the situation. Your mind began to run through various scenarios of potential words that could spill out of Megumi’s mouth, each more ridiculous than the last. You almost cracked up a smile in front of him.
“Why did you use your domain?” He finally asked, “You knew it was a huge gamble.” You shrugged with your good shoulder, “It still worked right? We’re still alive.” You just hoped that it was a good enough answer to drive Megumi’s curiosity away for the time being.
“Your injury looks way worse than it should be,” Megumi explained. “You knew the risks, yet you still did it.” You sighed before answering, “What other choice did we have?”
Megumi shot you a disappointed look before continuing his interrogation, “I could use mine.”
“You didn’t look like you were going to,” You explained. “Didn’t you look like you were going to summon a shikigami?”
Megumi stayed silent as you spoke, not knowing how to answer. He looked away, eyes returning to the first aid kit. “That's different. It was better than summoning your domain. Look at the state you are in now!” The panic in his voice was slowly beginning to show itself. It was different from his usual calm demeanour.
“Fushiguro,” You began. “Are you worried for me now?”
He did not turn to face you, instead, he took out the medication he was looking for and poured the necessary amount onto the cotton. “You ready?” He asked. “This will hurt. I don’t know when Ms Ieiri will arrive so this will have to do for now.”
“You didn’t answer my question,” You answered. “Come on Fushiguro.”
Megumi remained silent as he applied the medication on your wound. You could only wince in pain as your question went ignored. The stinging feeling only remained as your curiosity lingered in the air. The only sounds were of you wincing at the pain, while Megumi silently attended to you. No more words of value were exchanged after that. You could still feel his gentle grip on your arm as he patiently tended to your wound. Your mind wondered about, thinking about Megumi’s potential answer to your question. Your gaze remained on Megumi, his focused face, tending to you. It didn’t seem like Ms Ieiri was going to arrive anytime soon.
“Megumi…” you muttered, not realising that you had just called him by his name.
He turned his head around to face you, hearing what you had just called him. He was both surprised and confused. His hands paused mid action, his entire focus had just been shifted. You did not even realise what you had just done. Your gaze still remained fixed on him, while his gaze too, was transfixed on you. The effect that a name could cause…
“What's wrong?” You asked, still not realising what you did.
Megumi turned away, ignoring the events that had just transpired, “I thought I heard something…”
“You still haven’t answered my question. Are you really worried for me? When I casted my domain?” You asked, leading to Megumi once again stopping mid action just to look up at you.
“Why do you want to know?” He asked.
It was your turn to remain silent now, scrambling about in your brain to figure out a proper answer. You wondered why, why did you want to know. Was the simple reason of just wanting to know enough? You wonder…
“Well I know what I am doing. It worked out fine,” You replied. “I just don’t get why you’re so worried.”
Megumi’s face seemed to contort into dismay when he heard your answer. It seemed as though your recklessness with your actions shocked him over and over. “You knew the risks, and you took it. It could have gone horribly wrong! You could’ve asked for me to use mine…” He tried to keep the usual cool in his voice, but anyone could just tell that something was off with him.
“Fushiguro…” You muttered. “I am fine.”
Neither of you had seemed to realise that Megumi still had his grip on your arm, the soft feeling of the skin to skin contact remained lost in the tension that was filling the scene. Megumi does not seem to back down, and you have no idea how to retaliate and stand your ground.
“What if you died? What will happen? What will I do then?!” Megumi shot out. It was a rare moment to see someone like him break his demeanour. His usual calm demeanour was rarely ever broken. “I can’t afford to see someone like you die…” “Someone… like me?” You repeated his words. “What… does that… mean?” Megumi turned away once again, his grip finally loosening on your arm. He took a deep breath before finally answering your question. “You… are a nice person,” he said, his gaze failing to meet yours, leading to you wondering just exactly what that had meant.
“Fushiguro, look at me,” You demanded. When he still refused, you lifted his chin up to face you. “I said look at me, Fushiguro Megumi. There's more to what you said, isn't there?” You asked.
“No,” Megumi replied, “It’s as simple as that.”
The both of you knew that the answer was not true. There was more to it than Megumi was letting on.
“I know you did not use your domain just because it was a last resort,” Megumi began. “Because if that was the case, you would have used it against finger curses when we encountered them for the first time.” You sighed, “Why are we arguing about this?” You asked.
“You need answers and I need mine too,” Megumi answered, his tone returning to his usual casual tone.
“Why do you need them so bad?” You asked, your tone was beginning to slowly sound inpatient as the conversation went on.
“The same reason why you want to know?” Megumi replied, still trying to keep his calm demeanour.
“It's because I like you idiot!” Silence.
Even more silence…
The sudden eerie wave of silence that just washed over was dreadful. Megumi stared at you with a blank, yet surprised expression. He was not expecting the sudden confession out of nowhere. It had caught him completely off guard as he tried to find a way to respond to that.
All you wanted to do was to just crawl into a hole and never see the light of the day again. It was all you ever wanted at this very moment. It was embarrassing, why did you say that? Why did you say it without even thinking? You were such an idiot. Now that Megumi knew… what was going to happen?
While drowning in your sea of embarrassment, you did not seem to realise that the distance between both you and Megumi had been decreased. Courtesy of Megumi himself. Your noses were already touching when you realised, his hands glazed your cheeks in a swift second, bringing you into a quick kiss the next, before quickly ending it and pulling himself away. It was a mere second, yet the soft and tender lips on yours almost felt like an eternity. Did… Fushiguro Megumi just… kiss you? There was no way.
You turned to look at Megumi, who was shying away from his actions previously. He had no idea why he even did that, but he did and there was no turning back now. He had just shown you his answer to your confession. What does this mean now? “Megumi?” You gently tapped on his shoulder.
He turned around slowly, his face as pink as ever. Before Megumi could even realise anything, you leaned in for another kiss, holding his face. Your eyes remained closed, savouring every second that you had. You could feel Megumi’s hands slowly going up your arm and into your hands, slowly becoming intertwined. You did not know how long it took you to pull away, you did not want to pull away at all. All you wanted was just to stay right here, with him.
“Y/n…” Megumi began. Now it was your turn to have your cheeks flushed with heat and embarrassment. You could only break the gaze that the both of you shared mere moments before.
“Well…” You added. “So we feel the same way about each other huh.”
The sound of the door sliding sent the both of you into shock as Ms Ieiri stepped in. “Feel the same way about what?” She asked. You and Megumi exchanged a look before you answered that it was nothing, though a part of you had the feeling that Ms Ieiri Shoko knew just what had happened.

258 Fight Choreography PbP and Explanation by Lightning
A play by play of the fighting in this chapter, as well as Lightning's clarification of Sukuna's barrier technique being used here!
JJ-High vs Sukuna
After the last black flash in 257, Yuji launched Sukuna into the wall above them both!
The narrator explains that Sukuna should have been able to recover his reversed cursed technique after the black flash he landed on Larue, who seems to be dying after the experience. In the last panel, Miguel notices Sukuna's menacing aura spike in the distance.
Gege used this same visual to depict 200% Hollow Purple, and Sukuna's first appearance after the bath.
Please check notes for a disclaimer concerning everything after this page!
Sukuna's domain possesses eyes like his mask, and two hands cradle the underside of it. Black texture can be seen upon its summoning, like that of a usual closed-barrier domain.
Sukuna's domain expansion destroys a wide area within Shinjuku, seemingly just with its initial summoning. More black texture of closed-barrier domains can be seen here in the bottom panel. Mei Mei's birds fly away to escape Sukuna's brewing storm.
Yuji casts Simple Domain to avoid Sukuna's Malevolent Shrine!
Sukuna and the cast rest at the eye of the storm that Sukuna's created. The eyes in Sukuna's shrine bleed, like the bottom eye on his mask that Yuji punched last chapter.
EDIT: Lightning made updates and I have added them in place of the outdated information.
By Lightning on Twitter:
"Essentially, this narration has two independent, separate clauses:
What Sukuna did, the open-barrier Domain (with no drop in output or range) that doesn’t separate its barrier from real space
Why a closed-barrier Domain wouldn’t work against capturing Maki In the official, it assumes Sukuna is doing not only (1) but also (2). It assumes he’s doing open-barrier, then closing his Domain. This is what I also wrongfully assumed btw"
Specific Clarifications:
"In summary, what Sukuna used is his high-level, open-barrier Domain; no closed-barrier traits involved
A closed Domain cannot capture Maki bc it “pushes” out inanimate objects from its mental landscape; an open-barrier Domain keeps Maki in bc it acts directly on the real world.” 1
This in no way diminishes either of them btw
The reason why Sukuna opted to expand his divine open-barrier is exactly bc Maki could potentially break it from outside or sneak attack him. He risked it all to give no chances to the “monkey” who could fk with his game 2
Yuji, Miwa, Ino, and Choso all cast simple domain and prepare to withstand Sukuna's final domain expansion!
Notice the tornado.
Ui Ui likely teleported Miwa into range to help Maki.
Yuji's SD breaks and he suffers Sukuna's slashes.
When Yuji loses his leg from the slashes, the attacks stop, and he recovers the limb by reconnecting it with blood manipulation!
Sukuna finally uses "fuga," or Furnace - Open!!
Notes:
A little more late than I'd like to have uploaded, so I apologize. I reached out to Lightning for confirmation she'd provide her own translation, and thankfully she was already working on it. I, and many others, trust her translations and linguistic analyses more than anyone else. I wanted to make sure I was providing as much accuracy as I could.
Further analysis by Lightning, and she echoes my own!
Do note, Ui Ui has the soul swapping ability, not Yuji.
Yuji literally saved everyone's lives last chapter by making it so Sukuna could only recover one arm lol.

Thoughts on JJK chapter 228 (Spoiler)
Gonna start at the end this time because this is huge! Mahoraga's wheel is seen spinning, meaning that the shikigami just adapted to one of Gojo's techniques. Questions we have:
Since when is the wheel active?
Has Gojo seen it?
If not, why?
1) if the wheel has been active this entire time then Mahoraga has adapted to: Purple Hollow, Red, Infinity. He hasn't adapted to: Blue, the sure-hit of Gojo's domain, other techniques that aren't part of infinity. It could also be that Sukuna activated the wheel during a late and unseen part of the battle but all things considered, I doubt it.
2) the wheel is obviously hidden inside Sukuna's shadow and the last blurb at the end of the chapter points to Gojo having seen it. If that's true, then the wheel has only recently been activated OR it's only now that Gojo has looked for something like that after seeing and analysing Sukuna's unusual fighting behavior.
3) why would the wheel have been that well hidden before the Six Eyes, which makes CE visible, anyway? Scenario one: Mahoraga's cursed energy is the same as Sukuna's and inside the manipulated shadow the wheel becomes invisible because it's imbued with Sukuna's CE as well. Scenario two: the shadow is the natural enemy of the Six Eyes and makes things inside of it invisible to its user by default.
On that last point. Since we have been told of those old Gojo and Zenin clan heads who battled each other to death, I've seen the Ten Shadows being a composite technique like the 6E + limitless combo. It would therefore make sense the first part of the 10S would be a counter to the 6E.
And truly, I saw no one theorizing that the wheel might be hidden inside the shadow and that is kinda embarrassing for us fans. So my new and bonkers prediction for the future is:
Gojo is going to pull out the Inverted Speer of Heaven and that chain that changes length to fight Sukuna with and Gege will time the chapter release perfectly to coincide with the episode where Toji does the same.
Kusakabe calls Maki a muscle idiot and Maki insults Gojo in return. The disrespect for Gojo-sensei is real. The background image is the domain of Dagon, where Maki, Naobito and Nanami where nearly killed
Another new lore to the domains and techniques 😭😭😭 how does Gege keep doing that? But now I have another question: Hakari's and Higuruma's domains always stood out because of their unique attributes but what about Megumi's? His domain suddenly had the ability to clone his shikigami. Is this part of a normal technique he should have and only managed to activate inside the domain or is his domain special like those of H and H?
If you're all keeping track, Megumi's domain just got another hype just like when it was said that using external barriers to create one was unusual. Things like this harden my theory on Megumi gaining enough control over his body to activate his Domain Expansion to fight Sukuna himself.
Both Gojo and Sukumi have some good looking panels this chapter. Gojo's eyes nearly pop off the page.
For last chapter I said that Gojo learns fighting techniques and stuff on the spot while Sukuna relies on past experience. Now we have the observation that Sukuna might do it just like Gojo! This is a tough fight for the strongest but I've said it since the beginning: this battle is going to be fought in stages. Of course it would be ideal if Gojo were to win outright but even Kenjaku said that in case Gojo lost the others will come next.
Now when will that happen? My guess since this chapter: Gojo will simply tap out at some point to recuperate and let the others fight in a coordinated attack. He just needs to weaken Sukuna enough to do that without risking everyone else dying in 5 seconds.
All this time we have had to read talk on Gojo's strength weakening and that he might lose but we haven't seen anyone suggesting that Sukuna might gonna lose. This is of course part of the narrative. We as readers and the others as observers don't know enough about Sukuna's abilities to properly gauge how much energy he had to use until now and how much longer he's able to fight. All of this is for the tension of course.
Makora vs Mahoraga: transliteration vs translation
The translation site I read this chapter on used Makora for the tenth shikigami, saying that that's the way it's pronounced and indeed, that's what it says beside the Kanji in the above image:
魔虚羅, まこら, makora
Mahoraga is the Indian name of the race of deities and the inspiration of this shikigami but
The Japanese version of it is actually Magoraga with only two kanji being the same. Gege most likely changed the name because his creation was more inspired by the race of the Mahoraga than actually being a representation of them. The first translations saw the inspiration and went with the original name while this one said, guys look, the anime is going to pronounce it Makora and that's what we're sticking with.

The astrological philosophical perspective I hold is one that combines several different philosophies at its foundations. It is a polytheistic, cosmobiological, panenthiestic, panpsychic, phenomenological approach. It blends understanding through the application of mathematical-spiritual techniques & interpretations to help querents and astrologers alike come to a deeper reverence, purpose, clarity, and awakenings while engaging with and interpreting the chart.
The polytheistic cosmobiological portion helps us render truth from the power-obsessed and Imperial-minded monotheistic conception of spiritually, and the cosmos itself. This philosophical portion combats the notion that Divinity is a singular entity creating and destroying as it sees fit based on some ancient religion and it's particular precepts, or some other temporal religious/mystical/cultural instantiation of orientation of the divine in it's regional-historical scope.
The polytheistic-cosmobiologal portion discussed how in the multiplicity of Divinity's manifestations truth is everything but singular. Truth, if I must make an axiom, is multiplicity itself. This thus means there are now an expansive, yet finite relevant logics that can offer us a spiritual clarity as we remove the impetus to find a hill to war and die in with our individual conception of the Divine Mystery. It speaks it's truths in ways that create, deeper, and resolve dualities, dichotomies, and tensions through a logic that is alive, conscious, and in inextricable relationship to Time. The celestial bodies of our solar system become a relevant discussion for our understand of the methodology of his astrology is capable of functioning as a diviner's tool, but also as a spiritual/cosmically intelligent arithmetic that provides a language and logic for the material and metaphysical events that happen in our human lives on our own celestial planetary home.
In Western Astrology, we liken the planets unto mythic deities, with desires, tendencies, domains, and intentions and then track what those may manifest as when interpret placements, aspects and other patterns in the slew of different charts we have for our different analyses. If in our practices, both now as a divination tradition passed down historically with it's particular philosophical schools, and as a functional language when applying said philosophical schools notions for interpretations, it's smooth and consistently accurate when we give (divine) consciousness to multiple celestial bodies, we reinforce the logical proof of the next portions of my philosophical foundation, Panpsychism and Panenthiesm.
This becomes logically overlapping and expansive with ideas above. If it makes sense, spiritually through meditative practice or enhanced perception, if it makes sense linguistically and practically through interpretations that lend clarity and healing, and it makes sense logically and atithmetically through the mathematical techniques applied that gave us the interpretative clarity, we run into territory of Panenthiesm's logical forms. Panenthiesm asserts that Divinity is in all things, and all things are within Divinity. There's is nothing that exists that doesn't contain or isn't made up of the same celestial-conscious materials of the very deified cosmos themselves. This also becomes an important backdrop by which can show that no matter the occurrence, it's form, it's energetic presences, it exists and belongs within the cosmos. All things have a significance and purpose under this understanding, taking us to our explanation of Panpsychism. The Deified Consciousness of the cosmos is itself the ground floor of all of materiality, Panpsychism's philosophy asserts. That all things are conscious in varying degrees, but still built of the very same Divine Intelligence that allows our astrological (or any divination tradition/tool/technique) to be capable of provide any worthwhile, meaningful application and answer.
The mathematical, the biophysical, the cosmic/astronomical, the spiritual, the psychic/emotional all become interconnected and layered over each other multidimensionally in this perspective. It becomes the logical tracks that Divinity can communicate to itself, i.e. whether through humans practicing divination or plants growing in predetermined (and also dynamic) shapes and forms.
Next becomes a very important philosophical portion for those practicing and receiving astrological divination. The phenomenological approach of the utmost importance when it comes to both a diviner and a querent. The phenomenological approach asserts that this is matter of cross-paradigmatic navigation every time we communicate anything, let alone what are supposed to be Divined Communiques from Cosmic Deific Forces themselves. The Phenomenological portion reminds us that in the multiplicity of truth, power is humility, grace, an open heart and mind, because in the lack of understanding language, our bodies are attuned to respond to feelings/energetic resonances. What may not make sense in my worldview, individually or culturally, is still capable of being received, heard, and felt (again, even if nonsensically), meaning that spiritual practice and one's personal worldview is inevitably and inextricably linked to the ability to divine, interpret, or receive the fullness of any understanding or awareness. We speak through semiotic veils at all moments, and the more complex of a topic or logic we get to the more paradigmaric curtains must be acknowledged, and to the best of our ability, pulled back. This keeps us from an arrogant assumption of a singular divine truth needing to break through another's world for value and integration, no psycho-colonialism needed, just an open hand and clarified awareness of the moment and the information for the sake of healing, evolution, and further awakenings.
#divination#philosophy#astrology#evolutionarybiology#evolutionary astrology#cosmology#cosmobiology#panpsychism#panentheism#phenomonology#polytheism#this is a small iteration a draft of what has and still is becoming a life long work

us copyright law and ai - a primer
because people keep asking
I took one (1) class on copyright law in law school from a professor who specialized in both copyright law and ai. below is a collection of my various analyses on the topic. This is not meant to pass any judgement on AI art/generative art/ChatGPT/etc, it's meant to be a primer on the framework.
Disclaimer: Copyright and AI is a bit too expansive of an area to summarize entirely (it's my professor's lifelong research interest!) so i'll just sorta focus on the basic underlying concepts. If you have more specific/targeted questions, feel free to send an ask or use this as a springboard to start researching.
Copyright Law Primer:
Copyright exists on a work when (1) a human/legal person (2) does something creative that (3) is not functional. It’s obviously a bit more complicated than that but if you don’t meet these three things it is Not Copyrightable. A three-legged stool if you will.
The #1 principle of copyright is that it basically only protects creative and aesthetic choices.
In practice: You can’t copyright stuff generated by AI as of now unless the Copyright Office explicitly releases another rule or something saying so. AI does not possess the creativity or authorship necessary to create a copyrightable image. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/us-copyright-office-rules-ai-art-cant-be-copyrighted-180979808/ and recently, https://www.reuters.com/legal/ai-generated-art-cannot-receive-copyrights-us-court-says-2023-08-21/
Do not think of it as “the AI’s copyright is in the public domain.” The AI cannot have copyright. Full stop. It is not able to be copyrighted and nothing can change that. It's full public domain.
The reasoning from that case actually comes from a bit of an unusual source! https://en.wikipedia.o/wiki/Monkey_selfie_copyright_dispute
As a follow up, just because it's not copyrightable doesn't mean it might not fall under other elements of intellectual property, and just because it's not copyrightable doesn't mean you can't monetize it. So, for example, shitty ape NFTs that are randomly generated aren't copyrightable in the whole, even if someone drew the individual parts and features the composition itself isn't fully copyrightable (but this hasn't really been argued fully yet). They're obviously still monetized, though.
If you want to get really granular and abstract you can start breaking artwork into copyrightable and uncopyrightable elements, because elements of an item can be copyrightable without the whole being copyrightable.
Applied to AI:
The two biggest things present here in this AI/Copyright debate are "authorship" and "creativity," which are both rather philosophical in their own right.
I'll start with creativity. the fundamental core of what makes a work copyrightable is whether it represents "creative expression." So, what is creativity? Really, what is it? Loosely, it's based around subjective aesthetic decisionmaking. Essentially, have you ever taken a generic photo, decided something about it just "didn't look right" and retaken it? That's making a creative and subjective choice.
Applied to the concept of AI artwork, works that are wholly the product of AI generation can't be copyrighted because there are no subjective decisions being made; it's a neural network/model compiling elements and producing something. Even if a person is building/feeding their own model, at the end of the day, the person is merely creating the conditions for the choices to be made by an AI, just as the photographer with the monkey selfie (above) just left the cameras and things lying around expecting monkeys to come and inspect them.
Put another way: if a human is making decisions with absolutely no creativity involved, that’s not copyrightable either.
Authorship is more brief in analysis. AI is certainly more in the vein of a "tool" rather than a distinct author. AI does technically compose new images. It just doesn't meet the qualifications of "creative authorship" because it's not really choosing to be creative any more than a monkey is choosing to compose a selfie. Put more plainly, the final creative decisions to be made that result in the ultimate image/work/etc are not created by something capable of authorship. Therefore, no copyright.
Important sidenote: there are plenty of things made by Humans that also are not creative enough to be copyrightable. Just, ultimately, the US Copyright Office has drawn a pretty clean line at author = human. I didn't necessarily expect the US Copyright Office to be at the forefront of the "what is human" debate, but that's where we're at.

dream analysis
Other than journaling, whenever you are experiencing psychoemotional turmoil in your #life, another #thing that can help you navigate your "problems” is keeping a dream journal and asking for dream advice before going to sleep.
Dreams speak the language of the unconscious. They’re like the mental gymnastics I write--non-sensical symbol analyses that reflect a deeper truth than what is seen on the surface.
Dreams are like messages in a bottle from your Self. When you work with your dreams more consciously, you can unpack these messages and enlarge your ego sense of self’s perspective on the issues that plague your mind.
According to Jungian theory, the Self is the unifying principle of the psyche. It directs all of your psychological growth and interfaces with reality from a higher and more holistic perspective than the ego mind or sense of self. This is why dreams often have important advice about the problems and struggles in your life--the Self is trying to help your ego, which is bound by its own logic and reason, to step outside its self-imposed limitations god I love Jujutsu Kaisen.
Also, there is a difference between the Self and the ego sense of self. The ego self thinks it is reality but isn’t, while the Self is reality itself and knows that it is not reality itself. This is the paradox of the 10,000 #things of the Tao.
1 + 1 = 3
So when you dream, what you are seeing is a mirror of your psychology. If you watch/read Jujutsu Kaisen, you can think of a dream as a Domain Expansion that is superimposed upon (an alternate) reality itself.
How I analyze my dreams under the cut.
1. I always like to date my dreams and give them a title that summarizes the dream in a few words.
This does a couple of things.
First, it allows you to see patterns in your psychology over a period of time. Doing this has also allowed me to notice that my dreams typically come in pairs or usually within a day or a couple of days.
Second, by naming your dreams, it allows you to distill themes from the dream into a single sentence.
Third, it conjures images from the dream you had without having to open the actual document.
Finally, it gives you a holistic look at the themes in your dreams and how they play out.
i.e.; for those who read my Jujutsu Kaisen mental gymnastics, the fact that Megumi has become a personal symbol of my own psyche is something I write about a lot.
You will notice that I titled the dream I had on 3/13/23 “the bath” because I had this dream around the time Jujutsu Kaisen’s chapter titled “the bath” came out.
In this particular dream I was in the middle of a swamp and I knew that the water was so polluted and murky that nothing could grow in it.
Water is a symbol for our emotions and emotional self, so the symbol felt very significant, not just because I encountered another soul in my dream a few days later, or because of Sukuna’s bath in JJK, but because one of the very first dreams I had in 2023 had to do with clear water. Not to mention the dream from 2/22 (right before my birthday no less) had a Satanic insignia in it (relevant to Sukuna).
Take away: this step is all about finding patterns.
2. write the dream down!
I don’t always remember my dreams, but when I do, as you can see, I make it a point to write them down. The way I see it, if I remember a dream it’s because the message within is important and is asking for attention.
So even if a dream doesn’t make sense, even if a dream feels like a figment of a memory, I write something, ANYTHING down...
i.e.; a couple of years ago I happened to have a very specific experience in waking life. For some reason that day I felt the urge to read through some dreams from the previous year. Lo and behold, as I am reading through the dreams I was basically reading a play by play of the experience I had in waking life. Premonition dreams are nothing new to me, but this was the first time I had a premonition one year out (that I know of).
Take away: Don’t discount your dreams however non-sensical they might seem! Write them down! I use Google Drive because it’s a lot faster to type the dreams than it is to write them by hand.
3. Find the relevant symbols and analyze them in relation to the context of your waking life
In last night’s dream, the most relevant symbols are my car’s brakes not working, moving backwards because of the downward slope, going in circles, and the unfamiliar neighborhood.
There’s more to this dream, but so far this is the only bit that I can understand with my conscious mind.
Upon first impression, this dream told me that I am regressing. The car itself is a symbol of movement, and the fact that it kept going backwards and that I kept moving in circles to stop it from crashing felt highly relevant because I have been struggling a lot in my life in regards to my career choices.
The fact that the brakes weren’t working and that is why I couldn’t stop the car from moving backwards was also an interesting and very prominent symbol. Since I didn’t know what to make of it, I decided to look at a dream dictionary.
Now, a word of caution about dream dictionaries. The meaning of symbols is both a highly personal experience, AND a collective experience. So always take symbol definitions with a grain of salt. Listen to your intuition for what resonates with you as you read symbol interpretations.
A spider does not mean the same thing for someone who is terrified of spiders to someone who is fascinated by them.
So after reading several interpretations about a car’s brakes not working, the interpretation that I came to was that I am not taking enough risks in my life. This actually reminded me of a dream I had only 5 days ago in which I realize that I am not living up to my full potential.
But back to today’s dream. The downhill slope felt like a symbol for the flow of life and energy moving in a specific direction, and the fact that I kept trying to apply the brakes tells me that I am trying to stop the inevitable flow of life and that in doing so I am simply moving in circles and delaying the inevitable.
Since the dream setting is an unfamiliar neighborhood, this tells me that the context of my situation is unfamiliar af. In my waking life I have no mentors or anyone telling me what to do or what to think. I am merely blindfolded and flying by the seat of my pants.
Even my dad showing up in my dream and mixing up the cables is a sign that I can’t follow his authority and that I should develop and follow my own inner-authority.
This inner authority showed herself to me as a character in the second half of the dream (not shared above)--an accomplished musician woman. I’ll write about active imagination another time.
4. What are you going to do about it?
The next thing to consider is how I will take action in my waking life.
For my own context, I know that I have passed on a lot of opportunities because of my fear of failure. If I think of this in relation to the dream titled “bath”, it makes me wonder how, as an emotion, fear is not conducive to growth.
This tells me I have to be more mindful of when I am holding myself back from jumping on opportunities because I make decisions from a place of fear.
Ok that’s that.
Thanks for reading if anyone made it this far!

i have an idea of something i want to put in a fanfic and i would like to ask your opinion.
My idea is to make a cursed item.
an special Uzumaki mask that acts like Hakari's domain expansion but more extreme (if that's even possible).
basically what i have in mind is that the mask, a three eyed oni mask that when put on, allows the wearer summons a deity (maybe an eldrich god of some kind) the deity allows the wearer to gamble in a slot machine where if the wearer wins he gets infinity chakra and get like they opened the eight gates for a few minutes (two minutes and twenty six seconds the lenght of BENNETT - Vois sur ton chemin - DJ Holanda MONTAGEM CORAL Remix (Official Audio Video) that song they use to do those gojo and yuji teacher/student short edits) consequence free but if the wearer loses they die and their souls is devoured by teh deity the mask summons.
the thing is, the chance of the person wearing the mask winning or losing depends exclusevily the persosn's luck, but every time they hit a jackpot, the chance of losing increase, like, let's say, Sakura wears the mask for teh fisrt time so the chance of hitting a jackpot is 50/50, if she spins again the chance of hitting a jackpot independently is she pulls the lever right after her first pull or after some time has passed, the chance of hitting the jackpot drops to 20/80 and so on and so forth.
Hi anon, my opinion is this: You should write whatever makes you happy, no matter what others think about it. If this concept interests you and you'd like to see it written, go for it! No one else's opinion should matter.
On that note, I'm starting to feel rather uncomfortable with the increasing asks for my opinion on your concepts. It's flattering that you care so much for my opinion and that you like my character analyses and concepts, but the problem is when you send me something that doesn't interest me, I have to come up with a polite and diplomatic answer that doesn't hurt anybody, especially not you.
And I just don't feel like treating my tumblr inbox like a professional e-mail. I'm running this blog for fun and it stops being fun the moment I am facing asks that aren't my cup of tea.
So my answer to all your asks about your ideas is that you should go for anything that brings you personally joy, because that's all that matters.
Sorry for answering this openly for everyone to see but because you're on anon, I couldn't send you the reply privately.
#may answers#anon#i've deleted the other earlier asks btw. sorry... just do what brings YOU joy#post it on your own blog to share it with the rest of the fandom!#that way you'll find more likely someone interested in the same things as you!!

QUESTION 106:
Can LSP's expect an uptick in certain language pairs this year?
Chat GPT's Response:
As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, I don't have real-time information on the specific trends for Language Service Providers (LSPs) in 2024. However, certain language pairs have historically been in high demand due to economic, geopolitical, and technological factors. Some factors that can influence the demand for specific language pairs include:
Global Economic Trends: Economic ties and business activities between countries often drive demand for translation services. If certain regions experience increased economic cooperation or expansion, the demand for language pairs involving those languages may rise.
Geopolitical Developments: Political events, trade agreements, or shifts in international relations can impact the demand for translation services. Changes in diplomatic relationships or trade partnerships may lead to an increased need for specific language pairs.
Emerging Technologies: Advancements in technology, such as the development of new software, platforms, or industries, can create demand for translation services in specific language pairs. For example, the growth of the artificial intelligence or blockchain industry may require translation services for documentation and communication in relevant languages.
Healthcare and Medical Research: With the ongoing global focus on healthcare and medical research, there may be an increased demand for translation services in languages related to medical literature, research papers, and healthcare communications.
Legal and Regulatory Changes: Changes in laws, regulations, or compliance requirements may lead to a higher demand for translation services, particularly in legal and regulatory domains.
To get the most accurate and up-to-date information, it is recommended to consult industry reports, market analyses, and stay informed about global events and trends. Additionally, networking within the language services industry and keeping an eye on relevant conferences or publications can provide insights into emerging language pairs in demand.

In the midst of the demanding rigor of my Master's program, I discovered solace and equilibrium by nurturing my artistic inclinations and my affinity for plant cultivation. These activities transcended mere hobbies, serving as vital components of my well-being, providing both a creative outlet and a profound connection to nature.
Gratitude and reflection
As I stand at the threshold of completing this academic journey, I am overwhelmed with profound gratitude. This journey has not only furnished me with the requisite tools and knowledge for my professional pursuits but also instilled a perennial growth mindset. I have realized that mastery is an unending journey. It is characterized by relentless commitment, relentless work, perpetual self-improvement, and an insatiable thirst for knowledge.

Ihara Zeta Entropy In this article, we introduce an entropy based on the formal power series expansion of the Ihara Zeta function. We find a number of inequalities based on the values of the Ihara zeta function. These new entropies are applicable in symbolic dynamics and the dynamics of billiards. … Neural Inference Network (NIN) Neural networks have been learning complex multi-hop reasoning in various domains. One such formal setting for reasoning, logic, provides a challenging case for neural networks. In this article, we propose a Neural Inference Network (NIN) for learning logical inference over classes of logic programs. Trained in an end-to-end fashion NIN learns representations of normal logic programs, by processing them at a character level, and the reasoning algorithm for checking whether a logic program entails a given query. We define 12 classes of logic programs that exemplify increased level of complexity of the inference process (multi-hop and default reasoning) and show that our NIN passes 10 out of the 12 tasks. We also analyse the learnt representations of logic programs that NIN uses to perform the logical inference. … Self-Supervised Convolutional Subspace Clustering Network (S^2ConvSCN) Subspace clustering methods based on data self-expression have become very popular for learning from data that lie in a union of low-dimensional linear subspaces. However, the applicability of subspace clustering has been limited because practical visual data in raw form do not necessarily lie in such linear subspaces. On the other hand, while Convolutional Neural Network (ConvNet) has been demonstrated to be a powerful tool for extracting discriminative features from visual data, training such a ConvNet usually requires a large amount of labeled data, which are unavailable in subspace clustering applications. To achieve simultaneous feature learning and subspace clustering, we propose an end-to-end trainable framework, called Self-Supervised Convolutional Subspace Clustering Network (S$^2$ConvSCN), that combines a ConvNet module (for feature learning), a self-expression module (for subspace clustering) and a spectral clustering module (for self-supervision) into a joint optimization framework. Particularly, we introduce a dual self-supervision that exploits the output of spectral clustering to supervise the training of the feature learning module (via a classification loss) and the self-expression module (via a spectral clustering loss). Our experiments on four benchmark datasets show the effectiveness of the dual self-supervision and demonstrate superior performance of our proposed approach. … Self-Guided Belief Propagation (SBP) We propose self-guided belief propagation (SBP) that modifies belief propagation (BP) by incorporating the pairwise potentials only gradually. This homotopy continuation method converges to a unique solution and increases the accuracy without increasing the computational burden. We apply SBP to grid graphs, complete graphs, and random graphs with random Ising potentials and show that: (i) SBP is superior in terms of accuracy whenever BP converges, and (ii) SBP obtains a unique, stable, and accurate solution whenever BP does not converge. We further provide a formal analysis to demonstrate that SBP obtains the global optimum of the Bethe approximation for attractive models with unidirectional fields. … https://analytixon.com/2023/01/10/if-you-did-not-already-know-1933/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=tumblr
