Malcolm Macleod of Raasay was born on November 15th 1911, he was commonly known as Calum and is most famous for the road he build, mainly on his own on the Island he lived most of his life.
Calum was the son of Donald Macleod of Arnish Raasay and Julia Gillies of Fladda, he was born in Glasgow, his dad was in the Merchant Navy.
Calum and his mother moved to the croft and house adjacent to that of his grandfather, in northern Raasay. Calum had two brothers, Ronald and Charles, and three sisters, one of whom, Bella Dolly (died in the Spanish flu outbreak in 1919)
Calum attended Torran school, with its single teacher, James Mackinnon (Seumas Ruadh). He married Alexandrina (Lexie) Macdonald (1911–2001).
Calum and his brother, Charles, constructed the track from Torran to Fladda on a small isle off Raasay called Eilean Fladda, which is now uninhabited. I took them three years and were paid £35 a year by the local council.
After decades of unsuccessful campaigning by the inhabitants of the north end of Raasay for a road, and several failed grant applications, Calum decided to build the road himself. Purchasing Thomas Aitken's manual Road Making & Maintenance: A Practical Treatise for Engineers, Surveyors and Others (London, 1900), for half a crown he started work, replacing the old narrow footpath. Over a period of about ten years (1964–1974), he constructed one and three quarter miles of road between Brochel Castle and Arnish, using little more than a shovel, a pick and a wheelbarrow.
Initial blasting work was carried out and funded, to the sum of £1,900, by the Department of Agriculture's Engineering Department, who supplied a compressor, explosives, driller, blaster, and men.
Several years after its completion, the road was finally adopted and surfaced by the local council. By then, Calum and his wife, Lexie, were the last inhabitants of Arnish. Sadly Calum's Road, and those in general on the island are reported to have been deterioating in the past 20 years or so, which is sad........

The Compassion of Buddha Dharma
the one thing I can say I have learned since beginning my experiences from Buddha Dharma is that our encouragement here among the living does not come into the networked societies we inhabit from a god. there has been no sign throughout my decade of praying with catholic monks, and more recently Buddha Dharma, of a christ jesus or a god encouraging what is a collective human effort for the attainment of peace. I have neither read of nor experienced any evidence to prove otherwise. for humankind to stand before the world and state with certainty that there is such an encouragement touching upon us is an illusory deception. how dangerous such a deception is to the lives of they led into believing it as true is beyond present comprehension. I have no professional societal status or recognisable qualifications to support my understandings with but simply choose to not dwell on the negatives of past misconceptions or wallow in confusion and doubt. I have confidence in the fact that fifty years of empirical knowledge has brought this life to the truth. I can say with honesty that the compassion produced from learning Buddha Dharma is of great support to this life throughout its present trials. Thank you Buddha Dharma for allowing this life to discover your writings and begin on its journey with your teachings of support.

thinking about how Endeavour, which has always been a tragedy and was always going to be a tragedy, left us at the end not with a tragedy of uncontrollable circumstance, but the tragedy of making the right choice.
Morse lived. Joan lived. the event that tore Morse away from those he loved most was not a death, beyond a death to himself. at the end he was forced to reckon with a reality that had been brought about in part by his own choices and by circumstances outside of his control; the reality that the woman he loves and has loved so desperately will now forever be beyond his reach.
and at the end of it all, the tragedy (beauty) was that he chose it.

God, doesn't Endeavor's hellish life suck?
Yeah poor enji has to suffer so so horribly doesn't he (this is sarcastic btw)
In all reality the ones truly suffering here are his family and especially Dabi.
I have gotten previous asks perfectly breaking and analysing just how enji with all of his privilege can never actually understand the true hell Dabi is talking about and I 100% agreed with that. Another ask that I got also highlighted how Dabi ended up just like how Rei himura began and Iam so livid for the todoroki family.
The only one who got a small sense of justice was natsou who rightfully aired enji and is going to go and live a good life with his soon to be wife.

wasn't even trying to tell my brother anything huge or complicated tonight, it was literally just "oh yeah conspiracy theories can definitely be harmful" (because he was saying that) "another reason is bc they can quickly get into anti-semitic territory" AND THATS LIKE. A WELL KNOWN FACT ???? and he immediately started getting super defensive and saying that no they dont, it depends on the person's viewpoint blah blah blah, I WAS JUST AGREEING WITH HIM AND ADDING SMTH TRUE AND WELL KNOWN TO THE CONVO 😭😭😭
i hate this family so much lol the only good thing abt that is that only my mum was around for that part and she was busy and distracted and I quickly realized my brother was getting extremely defensive and aggressive abt it so i backed down as soon as i realized and moved on to just showing him stupid memes i had in my camera roll bc jfc that was WILD. i rly cannot talk abt anything even remotely to do with societal issues huh 💀💀

yeah so i dont get the "wasn't that some fucked up shit? anyway i'm Rod Sterling" mentality some people have towards different narrative reads. It's all sweet and cool to want to explore all the different variations of a fucked up scenario, but i'm gonna need the reasons for it. I need the "why"; why are we exploring this thing? Why is it important to explore this story? what am i getting out of it? and no it's not about morality.
I dont need a story to teach me "good" life lessons, though that'd be lovely. I dont need it to be an exceptional and exemplary narrative even, but i need my discoveries to be purposeful and meaningful. Sometimes the aim for an exploration of say, a very tragic story, is to simply experiences the different flavours and nuances and complexities of a deeply held personal emotion; sometimes it helps us find the mirroring and connection and relatedness that we need to feel seen and heard and understood. Sometimes it helps you parse out your own bullshit by taking it out of your head and putting it in front of you– i dont care what the reason is, but there's a reason. There's a purpose for every single endeavour you take on, even if you haven't discovered the reason yet. "i just want to experience a fucked up shit" lazy superficial thinking, dig deeper. I hate superficial and purposeless shit; and no i'm not gonna explore the 863796373th trending trauma porn piece of the day because "wouldn't that be fucked up?" nah. I dont care, it's got no use to me. I will absolutely respect the endeavour and make space for it if someone tells me something as simple as "it is relevant to me and my interests and experiences and my mental preoccupations, and helps me refine my humanity and my understanding of humanity in general", that is a lovely and true statement. But if someone keeps churning out worst possible fucked up sad scenarios one after another under the "wouldn't that be fucked up?" flag, i'm out, i dont give a fuck. take your sad shit somewhere else, i have absolutely zero space for purposeless horrible narratives that positively add nothing to my life and dont help me navigate it in any meaningful way.
#and no we dont say the same thing about happy stories because happy stories feel good. that can be a purpose in and of itself#if someone tells me that tragic stories make them feel good i can still make space for it; it's not as sturdy a means but it'll do just fin#i literally dont get the '' fucked up story for the sake of fucked up story'' crowd like ???????#you guys do understand that we live by the narratives we immerse ourselves into right?? you know that our worldviews and beliefs#and conscious/subconscious frameworks are all stories we tell ourselves right?? right?????#This rant delivered to you by me seeing that tumblr famous Tamsyn Muir quote 3 in the morning and like#lmaoooo no.#millenials leak their incessant nihilism into every fucking crevice of the arts and it's so tiring to watch.#no your constant deconstruction of meaning and purpose and value is not cute#no you're not subversive and revolutionary for creating the 85379637th Sad Shit Of The Day— you're literally protocol behavior#and you couldn't be more in alignment with the moral status quo of our time.#no aimless and listless shock value traumatic stories are not fun and 'adventurous';#they just speak to you circling right back into the comfortable confinements of your socially acceptable superficiality#and vapid consumerism.#goddd i'm tired. lack of purpose frees these fuckers from ever having to align with any substantial endeavour in their goddamn lives#and they think it's so funny; it's not.#I expect something out of the stories i explore. ''tragedy for the sake of tragedy'' is the laziest thing i have ever heard.#humans are designed to be happy; they're also designed to engage in meaningful and intentional growth.#own up to anything to gives you a chance to grow and expand and change or get the fuck out of my face#this blog is an absolutely unsafe space for socially sanctioned neutered nihilism#i will hunt you for sport; it doesn't matter anyway right??

is there a better feeling than reading a fic and watching the author slowly convert to your OTP. yes. Contemplate them. Choke on their perfection. Write the au fic where they end up together and then throw your hands in the air and make the main fic end in a threesome. you don't know me but we're friends in my heart.
