Newlywed Room Meta
Well, this is horrifying. I just realized that the newlywed room Jiao Liqiao had planned to marry Di Feisheng in is the same room she had him kneel at her feet in after crippling him and trying to destroy his martial arts.
(CW/tw: threat of rape)
Here’s the room in ep. 34 when he’s forced to kneel in front of her (and is in tons of pain and dissociating).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here’s the newly wed room in ep. 38:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Notice that the bed is now where the chaise longue was. This means that she was planning on forcing the consummation in EXACTLY the same place that she had humiliated him in front of her men earlier (forcing him to kneel and calling him “Furen”). The screen behind the bed is even the same pattern as the screen that was behind her chaise longue, which means she planned to surround him with the same decorations, so there would be nowhere he could look where he wouldn’t be reminded of the earlier trauma and of his powerlessness.
Here’s something even more disturbing: the wedding bed is actually her bed, since it was already in that room, just in an alcove off to the side in ep. 34.
Here’s the bed in episode 34.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And here it is in the newly wed room.
Tumblr media
That means she moved it from its normal, more private location, and put it front and center of the room where her surrogate throne was. It’s now the focal point of the room and very deliberately staged, as though she was expecting an audience for the forced consummation, just like she had an audience when she forced him to his knees in front of all her men.
And if that weren’t enough, here’s another disturbing detail: do you see the decorative frame she’s using to hold up the curtain?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Guess where that’s from? Di Feisheng’s BEDROOM.
We saw it once before: in the scene where Jiao Liqiao tried to undress Di Feisheng. He had let her help him with the outer robe and wrist guard and then stopped her, looking furious, when she starts to undo his belt while saying that she will help him shower and change his clothes. She doesn’t listen to his very clear and furious no, and she only stops after he threatens to fire her. The curtain holder is the biggest piece of scenery in the background of the shots where she is reacting to being turned down, so much so that it practically becomes associated with her rejection.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Given this, it’s very telling that she ripped it away from the rest of his bed (which it matched) and put it with her bed; she took something that she’d associated with his rejection of her and put it with her (non-matching) bed, which she turned into their wedding bed, to symbolically destroy that resistance and to be a stark reminder that, now, unlike back then, he’s helpless to stop her.
Everything about that room was designed to (possibly publicly) mock him for his helplessness and to revel in her triumph over him.
So it’s even more powerful (and even more of a relief) that instead of that future, what actually happens in the newly wed room is that Li Lianhua carefully places Di Feisheng in the spot where he had previously been publicly humiliated and was in danger of worse, and heals him instead. Li Lianhua gives him back his power and agency, and even shares the mental codes for Yangzhouman, turning what was supposed to be a symbol of his defeat and helplessness into a symbol of respect, care, of sacrifice for another (because LLH gives him Yangzhouman that he needs to keep himself alive), and the strength that true cooperation and union can bring.
And I’m going to be crying about this forever.

When people in the martial arts world talk about beauties, we're tied. Tell me. Between us, who is prettier?

I realized I have done irreparable ask-ins to Ash's account that another person has now mentioned my OC in their ask-in.
Canon!Hua Jiao and Hua Jiao in the AU are completely different, the only thing they have in common is their eye color. Put them side by side and you wouldn't even tell they're alternate versions of themselves lmao
Sorry but I can't help but think of the Canon!verse slowly being indoctrinated into wanting SpicyNoodles' kids.
Like for DBK, it's the triplets (babies no. 3 to 5). They are practically his mini-mes in looks or personality when younger (baby no. 3).
PIF's self-control was lost when she met her own mini-me, with her horns matching her hair do.
Then FreeNoddles have Tang's mini-me / future noodle maker.
When Wukong tries to help his successor, here comes babies no. 8 and 9. Both looking like mini Macaques but with dark red fur. KO.
Mei immediate connects and bonds with a baby Hua Jiao as soon as she spots them.
Cannon!SpicyNoodles only have Mac and Sandy for support (for now) in their own verse for not rushing a wedding.
Canon! MK and Red losing allies in their goal to take things slow is so funny to me XD The TMKATI au spicynoodles legit setting them up for unrealistic standards.
Canon!SKW standing his ground until the Au!Spicynoodles show him the "rambutan babies" #8 & 9, who look like little red coconut macaroons with Mac's face. Canon!SWK falls hard, he's already calling himself "Grandpa Sun" again unironically.
Canon!Mei, pointing to @aokolpvxs's Hua Jiao: "Hey MK! This kid came mostly-grown! You don't even need to do the gross baby-making parts!" Canon!MK, groaning: "No! Not you too!" Canon! Macaque, comfortingly: "I know, I know, kid. These weirdos are breeding like rabbits, even with the extra years they've got on us." One of the #8 & 9 twins: *waves excitedly at Mac* "Hi Nai-nai!" Canon!Macaque, trying to steel his resolve: "But by gods, they make good arguments." Canon!Sandy: "It's better overall to regret not having kids than to regret having them." Canon!Red, honestly clueless: "Who'd regret having kids??" Canon! MK, Sandy, and Macaque: "..." Canon!MK: "...oh gods no wonder other me and you keep having kids. You're a complete softie about them." Canon!Red: "No I'm...!" *flames blush pink a little bit* "Ok maybe a little."
Eventually even Au!Spicynoodles comes to their canon counterparts defense. They argue that they have so many because the au verse has such a solid support system of close family to help care for them. ("And cus' they start smooching every time we turn our backs." "Dadsy!" "I'm telling it like it is"). Ends up making canon spicynoodles embarassed/flustered.

Mysterious Lotus Casebook
Question Jiao-jie, understand Jiao-jie, become Jiao-jie, surpass Jiao-jie.
You see, I take the parts that I remember and stitch them back together             to make a creature that will do what I say or love me back. -- "Litany in Which Certain Things Are Crossed Out" By Richard Siken

Tumblr media
Okay but HuaHua and a-Fei actually spent TWO NIGHTS AND A WHOLE DAY in that wedding chamber.
~~~
Jiâo-jie tells HuaHua the wedding is in 3 days.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
~~~
Later in the episode, in the scene with a-Fei, she says the wedding is for the day after tomorrow.
Tumblr media
HuaHua witnesses that, so it has taken him a day or so to get out of his cell and find Jiâo-jie's quarters.
Tumblr media
~~~
When they leave the chamber, Jiâo-jie is in her wedding gown so it's supposedly the Big Day.
Do with this what you will. 🤭
Thinking about how everyone wears different colours in mlc and how they're all connected...
Li xiangyi wears red. Yes it means happiness and joy and luck (ignoring the wedding symbolism for now) but it is also the colour of blood. He wears this bright, bold colour and still ends up dying on that ship.
Di feisheng's main colours are, for the sake of simplicity, black and red. Red for lxy but it's always darker and more muted on him - there's more blood symbolism for him (based purely on his reputation in the jianghu) but also more wedding symbolism compared to lxy. Black, tragically enough, corresponds with the element of water - it was a pitch-black night when he fought lxy, on a black sea, on a black ship - and that even fits with the western idea of black being for death. But he also wears bolder colours - we've seen him in purple and blue, for example - and this parallels fang duobing's outfits. Inherently a lot of the characters obsessed with the past (jiao liqiao and shan gudao, to name some) wear bold colours while characters who have left it behind/who are looking towards the future wear lighter colours (more to be said about this) and I think this is dfs turning away from the last and towards that future.
Brilliant example of this is qiao wanmian. She wears lighter colours and she gets over lxy and but I think it's important that one of her most iconic outfits is pink. Yes we all know how she and dfs are foils - this is yet another element of that. Pink is white and red: white, for death, for lxy; red, for happiness and weddings, also for lxy. Learning to live with her grief was definitely a long and lengthy process but it also helps her become her own person - she lets go of lxy and eventually learns that she has her own power, that she's strong in her own right, that she doesn't have to rely on men. She leaves xiao zijin and becomes the new leader of the new sigu sect and, while it's likely last her time to become a legend in the jianghu, she's certainly an inspiring figure.
Opposite of this is jiao liqiao. She's firmly still chasing after the past - her desire for dfs to love her back, her one-sided love rivalry with lxy. Her red is wedding red for dfs but it's also a giant fuck you to lxy - look, I'm better than you, I've got his attention and you don't. It's still true to an extent in the present, since she believes it's still dfs' attention that li lianhua wants (it is not). A-mian lets go of lxy (with some help for llh) but jiao liqiao never lets go of dfs, even when he outright rejects her. She's chasing her ideal of dfs, not who he actually is.
(I'm not going to talk about shan gudao. Same colours as dfs but the evilness is boosted to 100. He wears black and red as the classic Evil Colour Combo.)
Then we have the con man himself, li lianhua. In this new life of his he wears lighter colours - some blue, some green, but an overwhelming amount of it is white. As the show progresses he loses the blue and green. Yes he's looking at the future now but it's in the manner as someone staring down the barrel of a gun. There's nothing to say here because llh has it all planned out. He's already started dressing for his own funeral.
Lastly, the one and only fang duobing. He wears lighter colours too (in fact, he and a-mian are the only two I'd truly describe as wearing pastels). It's fascinating to note that there was no distinction between blue and green (his main colours) in old China. The symbolism of it is while it's the colour representing east (hahahahaha) it's also the colour of spring. I will never stop with the fdb/spring symbolism - he brings new life, he brings a new beginning, life will always go on if there's spring. (Spring is also the season when peach trees bloom, and isn't that something.) An interesting note is that he never wears any of li xiangyi's signature red. He really does leave lxy behind because he accepts that he's gone, because he loves li lianhua.
Despite his capture after the attack on Di Fortress, Di Feisheng is finally, blessedly free of the karmic bugs. Free to hold Li Lianhua close.
Jiao Liqiao has other plans, and holds Li Lianhua’s wellbeing hostage. Di Feisheng decides that freedom is precious, but he would do anything to keep Li Lianhua breathing. He would even marry Jiao Liqiao.
Hello hello, it me, I finally updated. Please mind the tags. I had to split the chapter up, but this just means that the next few updates are not too far behind :)
