Happy Halloween everyone! Since becoming a doll customizer, my Halloween dolls are usually related to my favorite indie horror game, Bendy and the Ink Machine. However, seeing as I've completed two Bendy dolls already this year, I felt it was time to give myself a break and try something a bit different. My friends over in DollyAnna's Discord server wanted to do a collaboration, so we decided to all make some Dark Fairies for Halloween!

Belladonna Nightshade is a mischievous fae that loves to play tricks and tempt mortals. That said, she's easily bribed with a sweet treat or two, and will usually let you be if you have a little candy or pastry to give her. I haven't decided what I want to do with her yet in terms of a story, but there is a part of me that would love to have her in my Equinox story.

When you consider the fact that most of my other Halloween dolls are black and yellow, it's no surprise she ended up super colorful. XD Would you believe this is my first doll with rainbow hair? Yeah neither did I, but she is! Part of my style is having really colorful and vibrant dolls, it surprises a lot of people that I've never done a rainbow before, but honestly? I'm glad to have finally tackled one! I'm also glad to have worked with another G3. Twyla is very near and dear to my heart, and I was so psyched to work with her mold! You can't see it in any of these photos, but I used glow in the dark varnish on her eyes and neon markings, so that her eyes still glow like the original. I will say, this doll has a lot more acrylic paint than my others, just by the nature of I don't have any pencils in neon colors. It was nice to get the practice in, I feel more confident than I did before in my brush skills. It was also nice to have a doll with dark scleras for a change! I haven't done that since I made Dreamer, it's surprisingly fun to draw on!

I was inspired by a LOT of different things with this one, and I went back and forth on my concepts a lot. Black light skeleton make-up, butterflies, fairies with non-traditional wings, candy, jesters, these were all sources of inspiration, and I think most obviously of all, Dollightful herself. This wasn't intentional, but I ended up using a doll of one of her favorite characters, with a lot of saturated colors which we know she loves, and even her dress pattern! I've been wanting to make this garment for ages, and finally I had a reason to try it!

So those of you who know how this pattern works are probably asking "Kat, how did you make this fit a G3? This dress is supposed to fit a G1 Monster High doll!" Believe it or not, Requiem Arts has a method for easily adjusting G1 patterns to fit G3 bodies. It's as simple as scaling a pattern up to 104% and printing it that way. It's meant for her garments, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work for other doll patterns. So I tried it with Katherine's dress, and I'm happy to say it worked out just fine! I think I probably should have adjusted a bit more on the skirt though. This outfit is essentially two pieces, and the skirt with all the ruffles is a little tight around the booty, it could have used a little more sizing up. So if you own this pattern and want to try this yourself, do keep that in mind!

Do let me know what you think! I had so much fun working on Belladonna, she's so vibrant and fun, I wanna try more fairies like her someday. I also need to try using props more. I got these pumpkins and hay bales on sale, and it was fun using them to craft a little temporary set for photos.

DAY 6 Prompt: Autumn Leaves

“What are you doing?” 

You winced as your neck cracked, an immediate consequence of looking towards the entrance of the kitchen far too fast. The looming height of Beelzebub filled most of the doorframe, partially eclipsing Belphegor as his violet eyes peered around his twin’s bicep. 

You glanced down, surveying the mess of acrylic paints pooling in the veins of slimy, Devildom leaves. Old RAD newspapers blanketed the kitchen island, words smudged and rendered illegible by splashes of dirty water and rough outlines of the plants you had been trying to paint. Perhaps washing the leaves beforehand had been a mistake. 

Beel’s question had an obvious answer, of course, but you were never great at being succinct. No, you weren’t sure how to summarize what exactly you were doing in one sentence. 

Asmodeus, however, decided that one sentence was all he needed. He didn’t even bother turning his attention to his brothers, instead fixing a spot of sloppy coverage with a warm gold paint as he hummed, “Painting leaves.”

“No, we see that.” Belphie frowned, and see, that was why you had been trying to choose your words carefully. “Why?”

At this point, it seemed Beel was not keen on waiting any longer to forage through the fridge. It wasn’t like you and Asmo, quietly painting in a small area of the large room, were of any obstacle to the Avatar of Gluttony, so he pushed forward and ruffled your hair affectionately as he passed. The cool air of the fridge tickled the sliver of skin between your fluffy socks and the cuff of your sweatpants as Belphie slid onto the stool next to Asmo. 

“My followers have been asking for a seasonal photo shoot,” Asmo sang, a lovely twang to his voice that you had come to associate with a relaxed Asmodeus. He always lost himself in any sort of creative activity, his hums breaching recognizable songs and infiltrating his words. “But I’ve been in a bit of a creative rut. There are only so many hallowed pumpkins I can outshine with my beauty.”

The crinkle of a chip bag, the pop of the seal broken. Beel mumbled through a mouthful of food, “So… Gold leaves?”

This time, Asmo turned his sunset gaze your way. You understood. You had been sitting there, trying to summarize the chain of events in your head. Now was the time to speak up. 

You straightened your spine, making quick eye contact with both twins to ensure they knew you were speaking to them. “You’ve all been to the northern hemisphere of the human world during this time of year, right?”

The crunch of Beel’s teeth just demolishing those chips nearly overwhelmed Belphie’s resounding, “Yeah. The leaves there turn all red and yellow and brown.”

You nodded. “It’s a big photo op. Seeing the green fade into gold and crimson represents the changing of the seasons. But your leaves don’t change in the Devildom, do they?” 

Beel shook his head, a crumb flying from his mouth and landing on one of Asmo’s drying leaves. He scowled, whipping his hair as he glared over his shoulder. 

“The climate here is cool almost year round. It gets a little warmer in the summer, and a little cooler in the winter. Though the trees here photosynthesize in the moonlight, they don’t get the same type of food that the trees in the human world get from the sun. The dip in sunlight hours and temperature is what causes the change in color, so since that doesn’t happen here, your leaves remain a deep blue-ish green.” As you explained, you watched the understanding creep into Belphie’s half-lidded eyes. You were actually surprised he hadn’t fallen asleep during your TedTalk. 

“I’m going to lie in a pile of painted leaves!” Asmo did you a favor, summarizing the disaster seeping through the ruined newspaper pages on the kitchen island. What if the paint stained? What would Lucifer do? 

This didn’t seem to concern Asmo, as he was too busy cooing, “I’ll reach out to the camera with a playful laugh as leaves flutter around my perfect face and oh! My fans will want to jump through their screens to join me~” 

You smiled, affection blooming in your chest as you admired his radiance. No matter what he was doing–whether it was rifling through his closet to piece together a new fashion statement, or snapping a masterpiece out of the most mundane view, or painting his brother’s nails–Asmodeus emanated such passion for his craft. It was infectious. 

“I could lend you some string lights, if you want,” Belphie drawled, slow and feigning any sort of disinterest. You knew better. He wouldn’t offer if he wasn’t intrigued. 

“That would be nice,” You agreed, carefully watching Asmo’s reaction. “You could snake them throughout the leaf pile.”

His smile was stronger than the sun. And boy, did you miss the sun. 

“Ah, careful. This bed of leaves might become even nicer than my own bed!” Asmo giggled, tagging a wink at the end, “Only if you were to join me, of course~”

You couldn’t help but snicker as a dark cloud passed over Belphie’s expression. Rubbing salt in the wound, you teased, “I’ll definitely join you in your pile of autumn sweetness.”

The chip bag sounded once more. This time, the sound was a death rattle, the foil scrunched into the palm of Beel’s hand. Drool dripped from this bottom lip as he moaned, “Like lying in a pile of maple cookies…” 

Asmo scrunched up his nose, opened his perfect lips as if to refute, then seemed to think better of it. You exchanged a glance with Belphie, your quiet laughter harmonizing in the background. 

Sliding off the stool to follow Beel out of the kitchen, Belphie left you with a shrug and a smirk. “You might want to find a leaf-shaped cookie cutter.”

CARVING PUMPKINS WITH JJK CHARACTERS

including: satoru gojo, suguru geto, yuuji itadori, megumi fushiguro

a/n: this is a bit rough cus i just wanted to put something out for the 31st but happy halloween everyone!

☆ . . . satoru loves going above and beyond for any project he subjects himself to, always finding efficient ways to add on little fun or niche details for him to be fully satisfied with the results which is why he opts to choosing a pumpkin that would be considered comically larger than the rest in the patch.

you scold him, going on about how inconvenient it is for not only you two but for the workers as well. he simply scoffs, shutting down your concerns by saying,“the bigger the better, baby!”

embarrassment fuels your body as you watch three of the field patch workers hassle with effort to strap the enormous round pumpkin onto a truck for it to be taken home. you glance over at satoru, seeing nothing but specks of light in his eyes with a beaming smile that shines so bright. you could seriously choke him right now.

miraculously, after getting the pumpkin through the door of his home, the carving starts. he changes his mind about the design at least three times even asking you to pitch in for some expertise. after an hour later, you’d come to the conclusion that there’s no way a creative design could be easily done with such huge material; opting to just do a simple smiling face (much to satoru’s dismay.)

☆ . . . suguru had cleared his schedule beforehand for this day, dressing nanako and mimiko warmly for a cool autumn afternoon with you. the day consists of corn mazes, trying candy apples, buying the girls their halloween costumes, and of course, picking pumpkins to carve later in the evening.

faint dialogue from the movie coraline plays in the background as laughter fills the joyous air. you and suguru provide assistance to nanako and mimiko with their creation while simultaneously giving them the chance to takeover their craft at anytime.

nanako chooses to do a hello kitty design, whereas mimiko did a standard jack-o-lantern face replacing the triangular eyes with hearts. suguru’s pumpkin on the other hand is etched with beautiful meticulous swirls and stars covered from bottom to top.

after the tiresome evening you both put the girls to bed, kissing them goodnight and tucking them in gently. suguru proceeds to then use four flameless candles to light up the pumpkins and put them on the pouch while you set up a new movie; the conjuring.

☆ . . . yuuji is filled with absolute glee when you agree to carve pumpkins with him. he can’t help but fondly smile to himself watching your bottom lip find solace between your teeth whilst your brows furrowed in concentration as you attempt to push your tool through the thick layers.

somwhere along the line, the slimy guts that once reside in a separate bowl, is playful getting tossed around in a war that not one of you can remember who initiated it.

fits of giggles and attempted hushed footsteps behind pieces of furniture can be heard, with not a single care in the world of the eventual mess that you’ll have to clean up. yuuji doesn’t mind though so long as he can be by your side during it.

the fight calms down, the pumpkins get finished, the mess is cleaned up and the two of you are snuggled up in his bed watching a nightmare on elm street. with him providing you comfort whenever the jumpscares get a bit too frightening.

☆ . . . megumi actually prefers to paint pumpkins rather than carve them. his reasoning being that painting provides him an artistic range that pumpkins ironically don’t, however, that doesn’t stop him from indulging in the activity to spend quality time with you.

sitting opposite from each other with old newspapers spread out on the wooden floors of his dorm room, megumi softly dips his thin paintbrush in the white acrylic paint forming tiny ghosts on the surface.

he steals a couple of glances from you and when your eyes finally met his own, his heart skips a few beats with a small pout on his lips once he feels blush creeping up his face. you turn over the pumpkin you were working on and megumi’s mouth slightly agapes.

it’s a person? or something resembling of a person with spiky hair. megumi groans once he figures out you carved —or at least attempted— a portrait of him. he snickers then reassures you that you tried your best, soon setting aside his painted pumpkin he picks up a new one getting ready to carve you a portrait of yourself.

2024 Fall Blurbs

There’s a common joke among those who know Roy that he puts up with a lot, that he tolerates your antics with a disapproving frown only because he knows he can’t stop you. You can’t even imagine how surprised they’d be to know the truth, the Roy not only puts up with but actively encourages and supports all of your endeavors, no matter how silly they may seem.

He’d gone out and bought you acrylic paint when you’d mentioned offhand your love for the hobby as a child, supplying you with canvases and proudly displaying your colorful work all over his home. He’s joined you on many shopping trips for all sorts of nonsensical goods, like when you wanted to learn how to knit or when you’re overtaken with the desire to redo entire rooms in your shared house.

Now that autumn’s arrived, he’s your eager companion on all your shopping drips for decorations and seasonal treats, slipping items into the cart when he knows you really want them but can’t seem to justify the purchase.

“We already have more than enough candles,” you say, more to yourself than to him as you inspect the decorative candle jar in your hand once again. It’s shaped like a pumpkin and smells like vanilla and spices, and it would go perfect on your kitchen counter or coffee table or really any flat surface you have, but you’d already indulged yourself with a new candle when you’d gone shopping the week before, so you place the jar back onto the shelf and move on.

Roy doesn’t even think twice before scooping up the candle and placing gently in the cart as you turn and move towards the next aisle. All he hopes is that you don’t notice the candle during checkout and talk yourself out of buying it for the second time.

Luckily for him, the rest of your shopping trip goes off without a hitch, and you’re sufficiently distracted by some story the cashier tells you about one of the festive pillows you’d picked out that you truly don’t seem to notice the extra candle. It’s not until you’re back home and unpacking the bags that the pumpkin shaped jar catches your eye once again. You know immediately that Roy must have snuck it in the cart while you weren’t paying attention, and you can’t keep the smile off your face as you weigh the jar in your hands for the second time that day.

“How’d this get here?” You ask as Roy pretends to be unloading your haul, as if he wasn’t just staring at you from the corner of his eye, waiting for you to find the candle.

“We always need more candles,” he shrugs, the picture of nonchalance. He’s so wonderful it’s a little absurd sometimes, that this man with the permanent frown and gruff voice would be the world’s biggest softie never seems to stop making your heart melt.

For the rest of the season, whenever the little pumpkin shaped jar catches your eye from where it sits on your coffee table, or whenever your living room is full of the scent of cinnamon and vanilla and cast in a golden glow, you can’t help but smile.

What material do you use to sculpt?

Lots.

My favorite material is digital, but I sold my 3d printer when I moved cross country a couple years ago and haven't got a new one yet.

Earlier this year I was going to the little local art center really close to my place that does pottery, but their kiln's been broken for like 2 months and they need to replace it. I made a leaf-shaped spoon rest and a leaf-shaped utensil cylinder with a lizard on it.

I used to do a lot of "soft sculpture" ie dollmaking but am too lazy these days. to really get back into it. I also made weird gothic marionettes in high school, like this little pumpkin guy

Right now I'm using Sculpey oven bake clay, which is the acrylic paint of sculpture in that it is quick and cheap, but I'm having trouble with how squishy it is.

What I REALLY need to learn is how to cast molds. Then I can make toys that are more durable than 3D printed stuff. Soon as I can make small batch artisanal action figures I'll be unstoppable.

The Old Default Assets - 1842027 & 1841759 These aren’t pictured, but if you ever see an older tutorial or video showcasing some default brushes you never had, it’s because CSP reworked its default tools around version 1.9.  Fortunately they rerelased them so anyone can redownload them. The old ones are still good to use, they’re just not included.

Thiccpaint - 1707517 Never leave home without it.  I riot if I don’t have them on my computer..  They have the right combination of texture, shape, & blend with great handling and great variety.

Icyannyou's Momo Sets - user:Icyannyou Super cute packs that give a lovely painterly look.  The Storybook pack is fantastic, and even if you don't draw cute you can still use these painters & blenders to give your artwork character. :)

Thick Coating Brush Set - 1683127 I like these for background work, but it's a big pack of thick textured painters with good handling & neat effects.

Marredae's Brushes - user:Marredae This artist has a knack for textured brushes.  Very high rec, fantastic library of wet & dry painting/rendering tools.

Roro Oil - 1820057 Rompi is another user I enjoy the stuff of, and I'll recommend a few more brushes from them in other categories by the time this post is done.  Check 'em out!

Suika chalk -  1760304 Very useful rough chalk.  Sometimes, that’s all you need!

Sprongle -  1935694 A simple round brush with a nice rough tip.  Slightly rough without being too rough, great for quick paintings.

Johnnie halloween pack & Brokenhearted brushes... - 1876075 & 1938786, user:EnjieLemon EnjieLemon has some nice brushes in general, but some are paid for.  Still worth checking out due to their cheap clippy price (and clippy can be obtained for free).  The Brokenhearted brushes have a nice texture.  The Halloween pack includes a cute pumpkin stamp along with some easy to use chalk, oil, & watercolor brushes.  Compact and easy to use!

“Watercolor marker and texture set” - 1682349 There's a reason this set is one of the most downloaded on the asset store.  It's one of the best looking watercolor replicas out there, and even if you don't use the brushes, you can likely still find a use for the textures.  Great for soft coloring.

Grunge Brushes, Soft | Heavy | Complex Brushes & Xenomorphius' stuff in general -  user:xenomorphius Xeno drops some cool natural looking brushes out every so often for painting, inking, and dry media.  Please check 'em out!  The grunge brushes create a fun, grungy look like it says on the pack, & the soft/heavy/complex set can be used for painting as well as lining.  

Oil-h5 trial -  1976418 These brushes are hard to explain.  They work with the dual brush setting, & push around a layer of paint on top of your regular paint, creating a cool, streaky look.  They're a hidden gem.

MYNQZO brushes - 1993875 A pretty darn good set for painting.  I really love rough brush 2, it's great for sketching & rendering.

SU-Cream Pencil - 1761353 no wonder its popular.  Can be used for lineart, sketching, and coloring, this versatile brush delivers a great smooth look with a gentle textured end finish on pressure.

Write BoruPenP - 1753435 Probably the best ballpoint pen on Clip.  Please check out Pharan's things, I love them.😊

“Pencil-like Brush for Lineart” - 1692270 Ok this is kind of a weird way to recommend something.  It's SUPPOSED to be a pencil but I use it like a paintbrush with the opacity & density on pressure control, & another copy with blending turned on.  Whatever you use it for, you're sure to get a good result!

Grease pencil/china marker - 1774978 Chunky brush for chunky sketching needs.

Muda muda muda - 1715496 A pretty darn good dark pencil.

REDSketch soft - 1907313 just a nice sketcher!  Good for shading too.

MUGZ BRUSH - 1861032 A set of dry chalk & brushes.  Gives a fun messy look when used!

T Spade Pencil - 1769208 A pencil that looks great for lineart as well as sketches.  Good taper.

Gabu Pen - 1894713 Very slightly rough pen on one side, another nice triangle-like liner.

Noise and texture blur - 1842730 If you want a more painterly look to your blur, get these!  They said they're supposed to be turned from free to paid, but the artist hasn't come back and done it yet.  Will they do it?  I'm not sure. :0

Random Color Fill - 1707873 Picks random spaces to fill.  The picture in the demonstration shows it better than I can describe.

Scratchy Coloring - 1845677 A fun scratchy brush that can fill areas up.

Quick Lasso Eraser - 1875033 This and the next brush are both @pharan​ ‘s again.  This does the same as the lasso fill, but erases as you can tell.

Erase along Edge - 1800143 An eraser that takes advantage of reference layers.  The description explains it in detail.

I’m having a bit of an artist dilemma and I’m hoping someone might be able to help.

Every year my work does a pumpkin decorating contest (painted, not carved). And the prompt is always “Favorite book character.”

This year I thought it would be fun to do all the main SJM girls. I also bought a pack of acrylic paint pens just for my pumpkin.

However, I usually work digitally and wanted to draw up my designs digitally just to play it safe. Since you can’t really sketch on a pumpkin.

Now I’m stuck trying to figure out how to get the designs onto the pumpkin. Nothing I’ve tried so far has worked. I tried to decoupage the images but they just peeled right off. I then downloaded a paid app that’s supposed to superimpose your images over the camera. Great in theory. Didn’t work out for this particular project.

And now I’m back at square one. I considered the old pencil tracing technique but the designs are just too detailed and I know it won’t come out visible enough to be worth the effort.

The only other thing I’ve thought of is a projector. But since I have no plans to use it for tv, I don’t know what to look for. I still want something relatively affordable. But I’m not looking for something to project big images. The pumpkin is fairly small even for a pumpkin. I know I’ll probably use it for canvases. But I still don’t want to shell out the money for something unless I’m sure it’ll do what I want it to do. And we don’t really have a store here that I can go browse and talk to people.

Also I did consider a home made projector but to get it to do what I need, I’d have to buy so many supplies that I may as well just buy a real one.

So that’s where I’m at. I had this issue last year too and i ended up giving up just because nothing worked out. I’m hoping I can get at least one of these ladies on my pumpkin this year.

If you have any ideas or know of a good projector I can buy, I’d be really grateful.

Summary: After deeply fucking up his shoulder in a wrestling match, Carmy is only dragged back to life when Mikey decides 4 AM is a great time for some baking.

Main Characters: Carmy Berzatto, Mikey Berzatto, and Richie Jerimovich

Author’s Note: 2,756 words, content warnings: semi graphic injury description, lots of drug mentions, Donna pulling a big bad Donna moment, vomiting. Enjoy!!

He hates how much he remembers.

The earth-shattering pop. The fucker without a thought in his head is still struggling to roll him over in a half-nelson, and all Carmy can think is ‘off off off OFF.’ His shoulder caught and crushed beneath both their weight.

Screaming, “FUCK,” into the mat until his lungs shrivel.

The half-nelson jagoff crouching down beside him with his brows knitted up. Him backing away and Mikey and Richie and Coach Chen taking their place. Something, everything, is too loud, but he can’t tell any one sound from another. Thinking pain must taste like acid before coughing up Gatorade and pepto onto the knees of Coach’s track pants.

The random desperate sounds choking up his throat turn into, “Sorry sorry sorry.”

He’s told to keep his shoulder steady, but he can’t stop squirming and writhing. Being carried off the mat even though his legs work fine. Getting strapped down in the ambulance and wanting to puke or scream again the whole way to the hospital.

After they insert the cannula into the back of his hand, he doesn’t remember much of that day. Later, he became more aware of the surgery and the proceeding couple hours spent knocked out. All he knew then was that his shoulder didn’t really hurt anymore, the room was spinning, and Ma was pissed.

He can still place her pacing back and forth by the foot of his bed and yelling at Mikey about how it happened on his watch. Any panic he might have felt was smoothed over. He wanted to care. He felt like he should have, but everything got lost in the soft tilt of the horizon.

Hours later, he was wheeled out to the car, and Ma didn’t take her arms off him from the moment he tried to stand up to when he was safely in the back seat. Richie drove, Mikey took shotgun, and Ma sat next to Carmy, long acrylic nails running over his greasy hair.

He thinks he slept on the way home because he remembers trying to claw his way out of the ring and the white hot floodlights until a massive hulking beast rips at his limbs, tearing muscle, dismantling joints.

His mother’s hands cupping his face feel like they’re burning. Phantom pain and pressure still have a hold on him. The subtle smell of wine makes his stomach churn a little worse.

“Hey, Carmen, look at me. You’re just fine. Look at me.”

“No, no, no it’s- it’s-” he begs.

“Carmen, Angel, c’mon, you’re fine. Just focus on me. Listen to my voice.”

“Ma, ease off him. Let him breathe.”

“I’m trying to stop him from freaking-”

The hand that isn’t bound up in a sling pushes roughly at her arms. Before she can hit back, he cowers into the car door, falling back on something more instinctual when he wraps his usable arm around himself to shield his weak underbelly.

“Carmen! The fuck was that? I’m trying to talk to you,” she growls.

He doesn’t know if he wants to puke or bawl his fucking eyes out.

“DeDe,” Richie mumbles, hopelessly lost.

“Ma, Ma. Just give him a second.”

“He just fucking hit me, and now, he’s going to make himself sick! He needs to breathe.”

“You’re not fuckin helping!” Mikey raises an octave for fear of raising his voice in Carm’s ear.

“No, he’s fine. He’s going to be fucking fine. I got him.”

Fuck, something’s happening, something’s wrong, there’s so much fucking pressure in his head.

“Ma, back the fuck off,” Mikey insists.

He doesn’t feel good.

“Don’t fucking tell-”

He heaves hard, and stomach acid paints the back corner of the passenger seat then his lap. The croak of a wounded animal is punched out of him as acid clings to his chin. His eyes and sinuses sting. Everything’s shaking. There’s so much sound over him. Things are moving, but his eyes are squeezed shut.

He only really becomes aware of things again several minutes later when he’s sitting thoughtlessly in the parking lot of an Aldi with his hair pressed up against the back of Mikey’s decades old pickup truck. Everything before that is a horrific, overwhelming haze.

Just getting him out of the car took less of a fight than trying to wrangle him over to the opposite seat. The second they got him steady, though, he melted in their arms and curled up on asphalt. After a couple minutes of near-silence with Richie sat beside him, the frenzied panic drained out.

“Doing alright, kid?”

He hums affirmatively.

“Not that bad of a trip, right?”

“I mean…” he slurs, “I puked my fuckin guts ups-so don’t know.”

“Yknow, I’ll be fuckin flabbergasted if you remember anything after the ambulance. They have you on the fucking strong shit.”

“Fuckin,” he parrots before following, “Feel-feels strong.”

“Yeah,” Richie hums and tussles his hair.

About a half hour later, Mikey and Ma come back out of the Aldi before they and Richie scrub down the mess to the best of their ability. Mikey more or less hauls Carmy back into the seat, and he’s nodding off by the time they’re out of the parking lot.

It’s been a short three days. He’s barely gotten out of the armchair and his nest of pillows. Painkillers, antiemetics, and the Food Network keep him in an absent daze on the rare moment he’s actually awake. His diet consists mostly of soups and Italian ice when he’s less encouraged, more forced to push back against his lack of appetite. As is, he could rot into nothing and be none the wiser.

He barely even notices when his Ma gives him 1 pill instead of 2. That’s until it’s about 4 in the morning and he’s woken up by the steady ache seeping through him. He’s sure he’d be able to set the pain aside on any normal day, but as is, he’s much less able to tie down his discomfort. Despite the urge to lay back down and never get up, he decides he’s going to drag himself upstairs to his Ma’s room.

“Yo, Cousin?”

Carmy doesn’t stop his pursuit.

“Bear, hey, what do you need upstairs?” Mikey asks from the couch.

He huffs a short sigh and turns back to look at them.

“Hurts. Gonna ask Ma for the next- the next uhh dose.”

“Not for another couple hours.”

“I’m not fuckin… It hurts.”

“Well, if you’re not then you can make it a couple hours.”

Carmy stays put, trying to think of something that could make them understand.

“Come on, let’s fuckin do something-”

“No, Mike.”

“No, let’s fuckin go,” he takes the arm of a clearly stoned and drowsy Richie over his shoulder, “You’ve been a damn lump. You know what we’re gonna do? We’re gonna make pumpkin pie. Ma bought shit for it the other day. If she throws a shit fit, we can just replace it.”

“Fuck off.”

Richie counters, “You fuck off.”

“That’s right, come on. We’re going all the way to the kitchen. Fuckin marathon for you, kid.”

“It’s late,” Carmy argues as they almost disappear down the hall.

“Like you’re losing sleep. Let’s roll,” Mikey calls, knowing nothing could wake their Ma after downing almost a full bottle of wine.

He’d say fuck everything and collapse back into his chair, but never in his life had he resisted the urge to follow Mikey.

“Alright, Cousin, Cousin,” he takes Richie’s face in his hands with zero air of sobriety, “we’re getting so fuckin serious. Head in the fuckin game, shithead.”

“What fuckin game? I can guarantee you this shit is not gonna be servable.”

Carmy watches, pressed up against the doorway and fiddling with the sling.

“Maybe you couldn’t. Both of you, quit fuckin around. Grab the-the shit. I already got the tin and the canned pumpkin.”

“Recipe, Cousin.”

“It’s all up here,” Mikey says like to question that would be a scathing insult, “Carm, cinnamon, brown sugar, salt, and the-the other fucker… nutmeg.”

Carmy gives a mock solute before rifling around the cabinets.

“Cousin, eggs, heavy cream, mascarpone-”

“Christ, you said that like such a fuckin Italian. a-mascarponnée,” he mimics.

“The fuck do you think I am?” Mikey tries and fails to jab a hand into his side before taking his fingers together in stereotypical Italian fashion, “We need-a the mascarpone for-a the pumpkin pie. Or I’ll-a fuckin rock-a your ass. And now, I have no fuckin clue what was after that, thanks Cousin.”

“No problem.”

“Alright, mixing bowl. Let’s fuckin go. What’s that song? What the fuck goes in the coconut?”

“The fuck are you on about now?” Richie wonders.

“The fuckin,” he snaps in Carmy direction, “That song that Lee wouldn’t shut the fuck up about on that trip. Put the shit the coconut.”

“Christ, I don’t fuckin know,” Carmy admits, individually moving the cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt to the right counter. “What else is there?”

“The, cinnamon… brown sugar,” he says with a soft pat on Carm’s back, “But Christ, you guys are no fuckin help.”

“We got all your shit!” Richie counters.

“Not all the shit. And, and now, it’s your turns to stand there and do fuckall. Shit uh, Carm. Oven, 425.”

“Got it.”

“But yeah, you two shitheads are clearly too fuckin loaded to crack eggs.”

“Like you aren’t,” Richie says, rifling through the pantry before taking out a pack of cheezits.

“Maybe, but I have playing sober down to an art. Just fuckin watch.”

Mikey starts cracking eggs like both of them have seen him do a million times.

“Cuz, I don’t think that’s nearly as impressive as you think it is.”

“Fuck off. You’re the only fucker in the world that’s more of a little shit after a joint. Well, no. I met this one chick once that after we took a couple hits, she started going on and on about how easily she could kick my ass. Like spouting non stop for a couple minutes straight.”

“That’s fuckin hot though. When a chick could kick your ass,” Richie explains. “That’s fuckin-”

“Cuz, it’s not though. Like maybe you have less options-”

“Uncalled for, Jesus fuck.”

“When was the last time you beat me in an arm wrestle?” He offers up the bowl of halfway whisked eggs, “Tag in.”

Richie takes the bowl and sets down his cheezits.

“On it. And point taken, fuckhead. Half-pint, what do you think?”

“I’m not a fuckin half-pint,” Carmy grumbles, weight slumped against the fridge.

“Okay, but what’s your stance?”

“I don’t know.”

“You got folded into a fuckin pretzel by that one Rockford girl. Was it hot or not?” Mikey interrogates.

“Uhh definitely not at the time.”

“That’s all I needed to hear, Cousin. The kid gets it.”

Carmy hummed and didn’t bother to say anything more. He fully considers pressing his fucked up shoulder against the warmth of the oven, but he may never have the resolve to stand back up.

Mikey decides, “Alright, measuring cups. Every fuckin thing needs measuring cups. Oh yeah, but that chick was a little shit because she clearly, fuckin blatantly could not kick my ass. 5 foot and scrawny.”

Richie bursts out laughing and Carmy can’t help but breathe out a huff through a grin.

Mikey reminds, “This pie is gonna be the shit. You fuckers aren’t ready for this.”

“We barely did the first thing.”

“And the future is looking fuckin gleaming. Cousin, brown sugar.”

“Sir, yessir.”

“Alright, Carm, stop being a fuckin sourpuss and get your ass over here.”

“What? What do you want?” He mutters with his brows knitted up in a wince and approaches anyway.

“C’mon, come here.”

He slowly, gently wraps an arm around Carm and pulls him into his side.

“That it?”

“Yeah, that’s it, buddy.”

Carmy stays. Between Richie and half of Mike, they manage to add and mix ingredients into something resembling a passable pie filling. While Richie precariously holds the bowl up, Carmy scrapes it into the pie crust with little error.

Richie places it carefully in the oven, and Mikey asks, “Want to pass out while he deals with that?”

“Hell yeah,” he breathes like that’s the most enticing thought imaginable.

Mikey takes some of his pillows to prop him up on the couch, and once given the go ahead, Carm goes somewhat boneless with his legs strewn in Mikey’s lap.

“Comfortable?” Mikey grins.

“Uh huh.”

“Any plans of getting up in this lifetime?”

“Uh uh.”

“Want me to wake you up when the pie’s ready?”

He hums indecisively.

“I’ve been hiding the whipped cream, so you fuckin animals won’t have finished it already.”

“Where is it?”

“Why the fuck would I tell you?”

“Cause I’m such a fuckin mess right now. That’s really the best medicine.”

“That’s why you’ll get to have whipped cream on the pie, shithead, so do you want me to wake you up or not?”

“Fine. Heartless bitch,” he says with no bite.

“Alright, get some damn sleep. You’re slurring.”

“Shut up then.”

“You shut up then.”

Carmy flipped him off, but Mikey just mimicked the gesture and fist bumped him with it.

“Uhh what? What’s it?” Carmy hums groggily.

“Pie for breakfast. Up and at em, kid.”

“Oh mhmm.”

With minimal assistance from Richie who stands cautiously by the arm of the couch, Carmy manages to get himself upright. The three of them make their way into the kitchen, reveling in the beginning of the sunrise easing into the sky.

“There’s just nothing like that, yknow,” Richie explains, tracing his eyes over that orangey strip over the trees.

“Well, I know a couple things, but I’ll let you have this one. Life’s simple pleasures and all that.”

Mikey starts slicing through the pie.

“Hold on, let me try it first. See if it secretly turned out like shit.”

Richie dips his finger into the warm filling and pops it in his mouth.

“Mmm we’re geniuses,” he decides, “Imagine our power if we weren’t baked. And if it wasn’t 5 in the morning after an all nighter or two.”

“Exactly, that’s what I’ve been saying this whole damn time!”

“Mike,” Carmy murmurs.

“What’s up, buddy?”

“Whipped cream. C’mon, please.”

“You’ve been holding out on us this whole fuckin time?” Richie bursts out.

“For your own good!”

He digs into one of the lower cabinets behind the tea kettle no one has touched in years if not decades and pulls out a can of Reddi whip.

Richie all but lunges toward him, preparing for a death match, before Mikey presses it to Carmy’s chest and tackles him back. Carmy takes a mouthful of the whipped cream and watches Mikey wrestle Richie through the cramped kitchen.

“Carm, Cousin, hand it over before I kill this fucker.”

“You think you could kill me? I’d… It’s lime. Lime in the fuckin coconut!”

“Alright, congrats, Cousin. Only took you a couple hours.”

“But Cousin,” he explains sagely, “put the lime in the coconut, mix it all together. Put the lime in the coconut, makes you feel better.”

“Sure it will,” Richie responds condescendingly.

Carm offers, “Yo Cousin, catch?”

“Alright, matae, fucko, he got his turn.”

“One mouthful or I’m punching you in the gut.”

“Deal.”

Carmy tosses it to Richie who takes a generous portion.

“Alright, plates coming out. Make way, jagoff.”

He takes a butter knife and starts maneuvering slices one by one onto the plates.

“Hand it over,” he says as he more or less turns the last slice onto its bottom.

Richie begrudgingly tosses it to him.

“Who’s who?” Carmy asks, slowly closing in from his safe corner away from the action.

“Free for all,” Mikey decides.

“Works for me,” Richie decides, taking the first finished plate.

“Fuckin vultures, both of you.”

“Stop making such good shit,” Carmy advises as he takes his and carefully sits down on the floor in front of the oven.

Richie follows suit and Mikey soon does the same. The heat seeps into his shoulder, loosens whatever has felt so tight. It makes him want to fall asleep then and there, but the pumpkin pie tastes the same as it did when he was 5 and bouncing off the walls in anticipation of getting to be SpiderMan for Halloween. He clings to consciousness, listening to Mikey and Richie laugh back and forth and feeling like the ache in his shoulder might not be the end of him. If he can still feel like this, maybe that’s enough.

Digital Sketchbook (06.20.2024)

I'm about to make a big update post for my main website, but I didn't feel like using up storage on some preview shots. At the top, we've got progress on my 2d model for my YouTube channel, along with the many outfits I've made for her. Once I'm done with all the shading, I can break down the pieces and start the rigging process. I've probably got more outfits than I need, and there are some side characters I may make that I've had bouncing around in my head and on my channel for a long time that I'll probably also make, but once the bulk of it is done, I can focus on rigging while that happens.

On the bottom left, we've got a new Hesiodos (Hesiod) piece I'm working on. I wasn't happy with how the first one turned out, and honestly, I need to get back into the flow of more realistic works. Painting pieces directly from photo reference is easy enough, but it's a bit more difficult using a marble statue, as I did with my first piece, and more difficult still drawing from the mind while trying to translate those references as accurately as possible. I'm also using a more gouache-inspired brush set for this one. I've been super fascinated with acrylic gouache lately and am planning to start doing traditional pieces again in marker, watercolor, and acrylic gouache. I've been really into the work of Amina Illustration and I'm A Wonder.

My YCH (Your Character Here) commission piece "Little Witch" still has 5 available slots left on my Etsy shop (which is discounted from what you would pay for a custom commission with those specifications) - but I had also started on a number of other ones back in autumn of last year: A little graveyard chibi pin-up, a chibi girl holding a pumpkin spice latte, a woman kissing the cheek of a scarecrow, and a vampiric take on Klimt's The Kiss. I also started on a few general ones: one inspired by the style of Bratz, one inspired by the style of Monster High, and one inspired by the lo-fi girl. I'll still be wrapping them up and making them available whenever they're complete, but they aren't at the forefront of my workload at the moment - especially since I'm planning on moving away from Etsy.

Along that line, I also have plans to work on a couple of emote, clip art, and marketing packs, some stickers (including sticker sheets for my planners), a magickally-accurate Sailor Moon chibi series, and a couple of fan oracle decks. First on my to-do list, however, is a ton of website graphics for my new websites, the next batch of designs and styles for the Luxe Gothique Boutique, and a rework of my Khthonic Wiccan art series, as it's something else I just wasn't satisfied with.

And that's just artwork! I have a lot of writing in the works now, as well. I've got two books, my Mythos Reimagined series, and my webcomic, A Little Town Called Lorauvial, in the works, as well. This is a lot, I know, but I'm making progress each day. I just want to make so many things. I can't possibly keep it all locked away forever. 👻💚

21.. What is your oc’s stamina like? Would they be able to run a marathon, or not run at all? What about walking/another physical activity? How are they with exercise in general?

Ah yes, so again, vampire means he has more stamina and can run more than the average human. Now he can thank his brother, an actual track and field champion, for training him so now he more physical condition than even the average vampire.

22.. How long can your oc stay focused on one task before they get bored? Do they constantly have to switch things up or do they hyperfocus? What sort of things is it the opposite for?

If its something he likes he can focus for a long time, bordering on hyperfocus. Like when he gets into alchemy and potion making. He will not focus for boring stuff like homework, good thing he doesn't need to do that anymore.

23.. What is the most annoying sound to your oc? What’s the most pleasant? Is there any reason?

"IBIS!!!!!!" since it means he's about to get in trouble lol

As for more pleasant, he won't deny he likes moans from his partners. But on a more regular note, bubbles brewing from a cauldron would be his favorite background sound.

24.. What smells bring back specific memories to your oc? What are those memories like?

Oh many! He thinks of past birthdays when he smells pumpkin pies, and of fall festivals in his hometown. Pot in general tends to make him think of his friends and hanging out with them, but specific ones he's made obviously reminds him of when he either created them or used them for the first time. There's also Taia's perfume, he hasn't been with anyone else that wears it so he immediately thinks of her. Popcorn reminds him of his sisters, Ari because she used to work in the movie theater and would come back smelling like it, and Ash from all the movie nights they did. There's also a particular brand of jerky that reminds him of Ari/her boyfriend since he liked it a lot and her room would end up smelling like it often. Metal burning reminds him of his brother Benny from him thinkering in his room. Paint (acrylic) reminds him of his parents. I could go on…

25.. How jumpy or easily spooked is your oc? Do they have a fight or flight reflex to being startled, or are they never startled at all?

Currently, not too much, around average. His vampiric hearing lets him hear people approaching more than usual so it's harder to startle him in that sense. He still can get startled in which case he'd just well, react like anyone else getting startled.

Euphemia: antiquing (she mostly looks for small cute collectibles/figurines and vintage jewelry), journaling (she has a huge collection of pens, colored ink, and stickers), nail art (mostly on Loor, but occasionally on Qana and Hrissock)

Loor: literally anything social (going to bars, people watching, etc.), spending time with friends/dates doing whatever they want to do (they'll take walks or go antiquing with Euphemia and Hrissock, cheer on Rahifa at the shooting range, spar with Qana, etc.), cooking, Qana is trying to get them into embroidery but they're still very new to it

Qana: embroidery, jewelry making (Euphemia always looks for old buttons or beads for her when out antiquing), reading (mostly religious texts for study, though she's gotten into adventure novels via Rahifa), physical training

Pumpkin: just tressym things (sleeping, chasing mice and birds, laying in the sun, wandering aimlessly, getting into places she shouldn't, sneaking up on Hrissock to try and scare them)

Cassandra: jewelry making (she makes her own), journaling (she's more practical and less whimsical about it than Euphemia is--it's a record and it should be accurate and legible), reading (occult tomes, especially about curses--she's trying to break one), stargazing

Fresia: reading (scientific journals, tabloids), stargazing, theorizing about the workings of the universe (yes, she has a corkboard), parallel play (she's not very social so she likes spending quiet time with the few friends she does have)

i adore boba tea! it's so fun to drink with the big straws lol. i love just like a regular boba milk tea! also taro is good, and i don't mind like strawberry either. i do hate popping boba though. i don't like how it feels :(

i adore the book thief by markus zusak. i read it for the first time in 8th grade and fell in love with it. it's an intense book, but it is so totally worth it. it defined me as a person today. zusak is a literary genuis dude.

oh ice for sure! i miss having ice in my water, because my dorm doesn't have an ice machine. i always drink my water with ice at home though

i listen to all types of music honestly. i'm not a huge fan of country or like screamo, but i will listen to anything once. maybe i found out that i hate it, or maybe i love it!

i love punisher by phoebe bridgers! honestly phoebe bridgers is my favorite artist of all time right now, i love her! i also have a soft spot for anything by hozier. i like all music, but the sad indie music is my absolute favorite genre if you couldn't tell haha

i think that smores oreos should be a thing for sure. like that just sounds so appealing to me, y'know? i love oreos, i love smores, so we should combine them!!

something that shouldn't be an oreo flavor is pumpkin spice. i really don't like the taste of pumpkin spice. pumpkin on its own? delicious, the best flavor ever. but for some reason i abhor pumpkin spice flavoring

my favorite fruit is definitely either raspberries or pineapple! i love that raspberries are tiny, and sweet but a little tart. i love pineapple juice because it just tastes so good. pineapple also looks so cool lol

i would love to design a mug with all the dimension 20 seasons on it, with like the intro picture and shit, that would be fucking fire

i love to paint my nails, but i'm also a habitual nail biter!! when i do paint them however, i like paler colors, like lilac, or soft blue. i got acrylics done once, and i got little strawberry designs on them and i loved them so much. then one broke like 2 weeks in so i broke them all off

Free Printable Cold Porcelain Clay Recipe

If you have ever wanted to know how to make your own cold porcelain clay, I have found the best recipe for you and it is the one I use to make my air dry clay. You can download the free printable below. Cold porcelain clay is an air dry clay which has a translucent quality to it when it dries, if you don't add any colour pigment to it, a little bit like porcelain, hence the name. You can colour your clay with food colouring, acrylic paint, oil paint, inks and even colour from marker pens. My preference is food colouring as I can measure the quantities drop by drop, to obtain the colour that I want. Acrylic paint is also a great altenative. Cold porcelain clay is softer than polymer clay, and can be a little harder to work with, but if you are just starting out with it, you will soon get the hang of it. It has similar qualities to polymer clay when it dries, except you don't need an oven to bake it. Cold porcelain can take around 24 to 48 hours to fully dry depending on temperature and humidity. You can also You can also glaze the finished piece with a varnish or clear nail polish, or UV/Epoxy resin, just as you can with other clays.
