fancy thinking jewels and gowns don't work as symbols of authority. imagine not making the link between wealth and power. couldn't be me. couldn't be any number of monarchs displaying their authority on their bodies. look at this absurdly expensive frock my wife is wearing. it's worth as much as your house. kneel, peasant, and kiss the hem of her luxurious garment. you're lucky, the next sumptuary laws will ban you from being in the same room as crimson silk.

People in countries who still have new prints of the MP100 manga are so lucky. The used manga resale situation in Brazil is HELLISH 😭. The individual volumes were printed a single time in 2019, and while yellowed pages and minimal tears are a non-issue to me, a whole manga arriving crumpled is not so nice. This year finally had a reprint and it is just "2 in 1" volumes that don't match existing unfinished collections. Volumes 13 and 14 simply do not exist and in the rare occasion I see someone selling them, it's for outrageous prices. Let's not talk pricing. Most vendors make question of turning USED manga the most inaccessible product possible. What do you mean you're selling a single volume for 170 REAIS. That's more than 10% of the minimum wage?????? They are NOT worth all that the average price is 17-30 reais. People can't have hobbies on this country anymore.

The Barnes & Noble app stopped working for me ever since the beginning of July, and I had to physically talk with someone over the phone just to report the bug in my app since no one could help me via email. The issue never got fixed and rendered my app unusable. So I finally uninstalled it today.
Cancelled my pre-order for Sally's Lament from them, probably going to get it from Amazon or ThriftBooks instead, it's just way more cheaper and it doesn't look like the B&N Exclusive is going to offer anything special.
I don't think I'll be buying anything from B&N anymore, come to think of it.

It's kind of jarring to be reminded that everyone around me has always had more than me (aside from a select few). Like I just forget until it comes down to something mundane like buying shoes and I don't know my shoe size because for most of my life I've had one pair of shoes that I wear until they break. And it was usually something someone either got me as a gift (horrified that my shoes were wearing out. As if thats not what shoes do when you wear them) or they were passed down and I grew into them.
Like that's just normal for me. It doesn't bother me either, this isn't a pity party. It's just surreal that it bothers other people sometimes

olivia rodrigo did such a good job with can't catch me now tbh. i didn't like the movie that much but this song is SO good and it encapsulates the story so well too. it sums up what lucy gray represents and it references katniss towards the end as well and it just makes you FEEL that vibe that the saga has always had

I can't remember the exact wording but I saw some fucking booktok tiktok or reel or whatever that was basically saying "I'd rather kms then have to borrow a book from the library" and it's just like why ???? What is wrong with borrowing from a library ? Like please explain to me how buying hundreds of books you'll only read once or twice is better then borrowing from a library and how borrowing from a library is so awful, like I'm actually curious

In Regency times it wasn't particularly common for girls to go to school, even super rich ones. So yeah it's not because they are poor it's because they're girls, sorry
Oh, sure, that’s a massive part of it—but we do see them compared constantly to “classier” women and that’s tied to the educational expectations for women, yeah? Like, Georgiana is so much better at the pianoforte than any of the sisters are. Miss Bingley and Lady Catherine are laser focused on how their etiquette is lacking. It is still about the education they lack, it’s just education in like, how to play music, how to do embroidery, and “nice girls don’t do that.” But you’re right, other than this quote unquote education (which as we see is limited pretty strictly to women of the middle and upper class) they wouldn’t have been schooled in like… biology or algebra by their governesses. But that’s all the more reason to not get 😍RETVRN 😍 about it, right?
