Edit 2/12/2024: I wanted to add a disclaimer to my redesigns! I really appreciate all of the likes and comments that these have garnered, but I just want to add that these aren't intended to be "improvements" or "fixes" of the original designs in any way and were done as a character design exercise for my own entertainment. Looking back on them there's a lot I'd like to change about them and I'd never claim to be anything more than an amateur/hobbyist character designer messing around with these character concepts.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alright I wasn't really feeling the other one I just did. I wanted to diverge a bit from it to better fit the other redesigns I did and do my own take on Al, which is why I made this one that's more shamelessly inspired by Cab Calloway.
I based him on Cab Calloway because I want him to have Mr. Calloway's charisma and showmanship to accentuate his role as a radio host. I feel like the canon Alastor is too subdued in terms of expressiveness, and of course this is part of what makes him unnerving, but I wanted to subvert that. This rendition would still be a gentleman, but he's much more animated in terms of his body movements and facial expressions. He's witty and has a great sense of humor. A big man with a big smile and a larger than life personality. Constantly schmoozing and sweet-talking other people. And yet there's just something off about him...
Copying my design notes from the other post and adding a few more.
Premise: A man who was born in a semi-rural part of the United States but moved to the big city at a young age. Became infatuated with the music and entertainment scenes of the city and idolized performers of the Jazz age, Vaudeville actors, and comedians. Decided to become a radio host himself after working at a local station and became renowned for his humor and wit. However, despite loving several parts of the big city, Alastor was disdainful of the rapid industrialization taking place and its effect on the environment he'd grown up in. In an attempt to make his broadcasts, which increasingly gained a more serious and environmentalist bent, reach more viewers, he delved into the occult and made pacts with demons. Unfortunately, his meddling with the occult drove him insane. Fortunately, however, his familiarity with black magic granted him increased powers when he showed up in Hell. Overall, a gentlemanly character with a suppressed madness that seeps out from time to time.
He's very tall. I wanted to make him uncanny looking while still retaining the gentlemanly appearance of the canon version and to do this I tried to give him an elongated silhouette. He's as tall as Angel Dust, if not taller when standing up, but he's constantly bending over either due to poor posture or to ingratiate himself to the shorter masses.
No more sexyman hourglass figure, I made him a bit broader to give him a bigger presence.
Cab's signature pencil moustache. I see a lot of people giving him one and I'm not sure if we share the same inspiration, but it's a cool look!
Overall a more desaturated, sepia palette than the rest of the cast for an old-timey look (I mean Angel Dust is old-timey too but... forget about it). Also to contrast with the red of Charlie's suit.
The black line parts of his antlers are meant to look like the velvet shedding deer undergo as well as power lines, with an eye in the center which resembles the flame between Baphomet's horns. This eye is where his "power" emanates from so to speak, like a radio signal.
Waveform design on his suit.
Design on his shirt meant to resemble a ribcage.
BIG ANTLERS! (less so in this version, more manageable)
Diamond design on the pants to indicate he is a trickster.
A long, deer-like neck and a deer-like yet human-like face to give him an uncanny look.
His right eye is a radio dial and he has a speaker in his mouth to produce that radio quality when he speaks.
I tried to make his suit look like a zoot suit for historical relevance, particularly the broad-shouldered ones worn by such performers as Cab Calloway. I made his pants high-waisted and pegged.
His staff is based on antique carbon microphones with the center modified to look like an inverted pentagram.
He practices black magic.
His entire body is covered in fur save for his face and ears, like a werewolf.

Fashion in Oz: the Good Witches (2)
Tumblr media
Given I couldn't find any pictures of the Good Witches in the 1902 extravaganza, I'll immediately jump to the MGM movie and its Good Witch, Glinda. Which is a fascinating case - because this character is the literal fusion of the original two Good Witches, bearing the name of the Good Witch of the South (Glinda) and yet holding the title of Good Witch of the North, and fulfilling the role of the two witches successively. And it is interesting to see that, in Glinda's costume right here, we have a fusion of visual elements taken from both of the literary characters. Indeed, the Good Witch holding a magic wand as tall as her (so a sort of magic staff) and having her dress covered in sparkling stars does come entirely from the Good Witch of the North - with the change of the stylized "N" at the top of the staff being changed here for a silvery star. Meanwhile, the fact that Glinda wears a sort of tall crown is taken from Glinda's depictions, as we saw earlier - though here Glinda's crown is larger, silvery and with stars at the top (to keep the whole "star" aesthetic). Of course, no need to point out that Glinda's headwear is also here to mimick and oppose the Wicked Witch's own hat. Interestingly, we find back here the curly red hair of Glinda in Baum's original description of the Good Witch of the South, even though here Billie Burke, while beautiful, plays a more mature Glinda than the original "young sorceress" Baum depicted her as. And... well I said red hair, but to be fair it is actually more of a venitian blond/strawberry blond kind of color, given how Burke's hair can look a deep blond depending on the lighting. We could almost say that the fact Glinda's dress is pink was maybe also lifted from the book illustrations of Glinda - as we saw before, John R. Neill added reds to the white of Glinda's outfits (or at least the red was added in the colorization of her dresses), and often it resulted in pink outfits. After all, pink is a "soft and feminine" color, isn't it? It might be a nod to these illustrations... or it might simply be the movie crew's very own invention. After all, they wanted to depict a "good witch", they wanted to depict a feminine character that was kind and gentle - and pink would certainly be the color to go. Overall, what the MGM movie did was also insist on a true... "fairy" aesthetic, or "fairy tale" vibe for the Glinda costume. The fact her magic staff has a star on top is made to make it seems more like a fairy magic wand (which is usually depicted with a star at the end) ; having her be in a pink costume with a heavy star motif also works in this "fairy" concept ; while her puffy dress is very... princess-like, a feeling that is reinforced by the "crown" she wears. All in all, without a doubt, we can say that this costume is one of a "fairy-princess". In fact, look carefully at the puffy, translucid sleeves. The way they are placed is no mere coincidence - they are not here to cover the arms, they are here to ornate the shoulders. And the way these "transluscent puffs" were shaped is clearly meant to evoke insect wings - or to be more precise, fairy wings. In fact there is a true irony when we look at the color palette. In the MGM movie Glinda gets all the silver (it is her main color patterns, silver and pink) - while in the original book it was the Wicked Witches who were associated with silver (silver shoes, silver whistle). And in reverse, in the MGM movie the Witches got a strong red pattern (red shoes, red smoke, red hourglass), while in the books red was the color of Glinda's lands and people. EDIT: Re-watching Glinda's scenes, I actually missed a detail in her outfit... She doesn't just have a star pattern on her dress, she also has a butterfly one! If you look carefully, she wears on her clothes small, silvery, shining butterflies. There is one around her neck, another by her left shoulder, and a third on her belt. It clearly reinforces the "fairy vibe" they were going with for this character
Tumblr media
Given I have started looking into MGM's Glinda (or North-Glinda), who is a very unique character breaking the usual Good Witches pattern, I'll take a look at other incarnations of her before moving on to other adaptations of the original Good Witches (Locasta and South-Glinda). The most recent would be this incarnation, from "Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return". We keep here a heavy MGM influence - the curly venitian blond hair (though it is a darker/browner shade of strawberry blond than the original MGM movie), a large, puffy, princess-like dress entirely pink, puffy shoulder pieces and a high crown... However this design changed significantly several details. Such as the skirt - quite "simple" in the MGM movie, here we have several levels piled on and wrapped up around each other, for a more complex and... "regal" I guess effect. The addition of numerous pearls on the lower part of the skirt notably enhance the feeling of "royalty" or at least "wealth" this Glinda produces - I wonder if the pearls on her dress are meant to evoke the "pearl of truth" Glinda is said to wield in "The Marvelous Land of Oz"... Other details include the puffy shoulder pieces losing the "translucid fairy wings" effect to become more traditional puffy, elbow-long sleeves, typical of "old-fashioned" dresses  ; the crown, which is here actually a high diadem/tiara instead of a full circling crown, or even how the silver-and-pink palette becomes here white-and-pink. But the most significant change would probably be the change of Glinda's pattern. Here, no more stars. On her dress and in her tiara, what you see is flowers - and even her sleeves and collar are shaped like petals. Oh, and of course the size of her star-topped staff got massively reduced, now becoming just a simple "magic wand".
Tumblr media
Another North-Glinda incarnation comes from the cartoon series "The Wizard of Oz". No, not the recent thing for little kiddies that is posted everywhere on Youtube nowadays - I am speaking of the unfinished 1990 cartoon, supposed to be a sequel to the MGM movie. Their version of Glinda was based on the MGM character, but they added numerous design changes. Most notorious being that Glinda suddenly turns blonde for some reason. The star pattern of Glinda's dress is still present (with a bigger, golden star on her cleavage, to represent the North star which, in this cartoon, she is the mistress of), but the dress herself has a drastic color change, with only the torso part of the dress being pink and the rest, skirt plus sleeves, becoming pure white. Glinda keeps the strange high pink crown of MGM's Glinda, but the jewels on it go from random silvery jewels to deep purple ones actually shaped in a given pattern - you can see a crescent moon on the crown. As for her wand, while still longer than a traditional magic wand, it is still not as long as the MGM character's original staff, and if you look closely you will notice that a purple pattern appears on the star at the top - a crescent of moon seemingly passing in front of the sun (a motif that Owl House fans will recognize without a doubt). You can see it all in detail here:
Tumblr media
Given the show's disdain (or ignorance) of the original books, I doubt the addition of purple in this Glinda's designs were supposed to be a hint at the Gillikin country. A last addition by the cartoon is the apparition of a few butterfly-shaped ornaments on Glinda's dress: one on her belt, a second on her shoulder, and a third around her neck. EDIT: Okay I got something completely wrong. I thought the butterflies in Glinda's dress were invented by this cartoon but actually NO! I checked back and the butterflies ARE on the original MGM Glinda's dress - silvery and shining. It is just that I never noticed them before. So my bad

I wanted to draw the daycare attendants like how they were the on cover of somniphobia . I’m not really sure what’s with all the drug related iconography when it comes to these two. Like the titular story is about some awful little boys getting swaisted on a moondrop “dream sphere”
Anyways pink is definitely one of moony’s colors, it looks great on him though I was kinda in a struggle with sun. No worries I put his lanky ass body into a Skullgirls costume and had fun lol.
Cerebella’s whole thing is that she’s a mafia circus performer/ strongwoman and you know what’s also like a mafia circus? Freddy fazbears pizzeria.
Anyways idk how to make palette edits for Skullgirls characters but I’d totally put her in a moon palette since she’s got a hat lol. Also it’s fun to see how items fit on characters that weren’t designed for it in mind. Cerebella is a compressed short shaped lady and her outfit forms an hourglass around her but if you take a robot like ten times her size and with about zero ass you get this lol

it's a long one but this is from a YouTube comment I made pertaining to the style we used for the animation, some context the person talked about Jojo's anime not being manga accurate.
tldr a lot of the philosophy is be close but follow the vibe cus the style changes too much to just Be Manga Accurate. manga accurate isn't enough info
So the thing about "manga accurate" is there's a clear distinct difference between Araki's style in Phantom Blood and say Stone Ocean. Araki's style has changed since 1987 and even then Part 3's similar style was different from Phantom Blood.
In animation this is a fickle thing to deal with cus animation for the most part is about being consistent, but also easier to animate. There's also the goal of your animators learning the style (this is an issue in the industry cus shows end too early or change the style that they cant learn the style so off modelness happens more often)
DP obviously chose to go with changing the artstyles according to the style of the Arc with Part 1 and 2 being closer in similarity. So it is manga accurate, just not accurate to Stone Ocean. Stone Ocean 2000 is manga accurate but not accurate to Phantom Blood 1987. There's alsothe fact Jojos manga art doesnt have a set palette. Which DP acknowledged but again its easier to pick a palette that looked the best (throw in the color design is a different department from animation, animators cant control what goes on there but of course sailorcrisis and I are our color design department)
Its the same here but for the sake of consistency, sailorcrisis and I decided to go with one character design and stick with it. Naoko has more than one style that we broke down into 4 or 5, mainly based on reprints and book covers. We call them Nakayoshi (1991), Tankobon (1992), Shinsoban (2003), and finally recently Kanzenban/Perfect Edition (2014) as well as the recent full color manga and what's WITHIN the pages. She draws a little different when working with Black and White.
This design is heavily based on Kanzenban for shre but Theres differences in anatomy and even her painting style throughout the years which effects what colors we think are "manga accurate", it effects how we draw the eyes for example. Kanzenban doesn't entirely dictate what we use though! ie the brooch here is based on some old concept Nakayoshi era designs, while in Kanzenban the brooch is gold or silver (kanzenban is even inconsistent). Its not currently manga accurate but we both think it looks good and elegant, like Naoko's tastes. Even the cel shading style we use comes from her anime art but not necesarilly copying what she does but as a means of studying how she uses watercolors, her habits.
Anyway depsite the differences, there are some habbits thats still in Naoko's style, so the best course of action for us was to look at them all, use aspects of them and put it together, like an amalgamation of 20 years of Naoko's art. Even the cel shading style we use comes from her anime art but not necesarilly copying what she does but as a means of studying how she watercolors, her habits. The bonus in making amalgamations is that for manga fans, it's a specific of style for someone. Shinsoban lovers see shinsoban, Nakayoshi lovers see Nakayoshi ect. Cus all the styles are in there in subtle tiny ways. ie the noses are visible which is not the case in Kanzenban or shinsoban, but the skirt's shape comes directly from Shinsoban cus we felt that looked the best with the body shape we used (which also comes from shinsoban and Kanzenban, the bodies are a LOT more hourglass curvier in Naoko's older art)
Its partially why the animation took 3 years, but the design process took MUCH longer! mainly cus sailorcrisis and I prefer different styles! 😂 she likes shinsoban and Kanzenban, i like Nakayoshi and Tankbon (which itself is a broad term since Tankobon and Nakayoshi was around the same time and the names pertain to the series' entire run from 91 to 95. Nakayoshi was the magazine, Tankobon was the home release volume books. but the one I prefer is the style in early chapters i like that one!) but yeah instead of choosing one or the other we mixed it up, and made a single character design out of it. (though we are making changes but theyre small lots of times, we are perfectionists lol)
So.. yea its manga accurate but not necesarilly pertaining to a specific one. It's all about hitting the vibe and understanding what Naoko was trying to go for. Same for Jojo, just a different way of goin about it. Stone Ocean would NOT be the same vibe if it was in Phatom Blood's style. Our way is not the 100% correct way for some people either, and it probably won't work for every manga series. But the philosophy is just "be close but follow the vibe." the vibe kinda being Naoko's elegant and expensive tastes, ethereal and slow motion.

Final Designs
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are my final designs for my design boards, the designs have an array of silhouettes which I think accurately represents the fashion in the Victorian Era as huge skirts and hourglass silhouettes were the main styles at this time.
However, I also included some looser slimline silhouettes to represent the change in fashion as the suffragettes were on the rise and they were beginning to make an impact, especially when the corset reforms began at the end of the Victorian Era. I also wanted to reference the suffragettes in my final garment design by using the colours of the suffragette flag (purple, white, green) to represent the theme of feminism across my collection. Purple, white and green are also common colours across my designs, as well as, incorporating the reds, pinks, blues from the core colour palettes of each character.
I think my collection of dresses accurately represents the Victorian Era and Little Women, additionally, incorporating Cannon Hall through my prints that have been used across the edit.

💯 [100] My wip is currently 100,168 words! I'm hoping to get it down to under 100,000 after revision but it just keeps increasing.
⌛️ [Hourglass] This wip is about 2-ish years in the making.
📚 [Books] This WIP is part of a planned duology.
🎀 [Bow] Uhhh at least eleven characters are named. There are four most important ones.
💖 [Heart] I can't decide on a favorite moment!!
🎶 [Notes] I do have playlist of songs I listen to when writing. I also like to draw my characters...I'll possibly be making tiktoks about my book in the future. :)
📖 [Open Book] I'm hoping my WIP will be traditionally published!
🐀 [Rat] My WIP is great at being fantasy because it has magic? It's also great at being romance because the romance does indeed happen. I don't think queer is a genre but it is abundantly queer too.
🐁[Mouse] Unfortunately, magic is limited due to certain circumstances so it doesn't get to be shown off too often!
🔎 [Magnifier] ohhhh my goodness I used the word "slightly" way too much. Thankfully I edited most of them out!
🍖 [Meat] How many fictional people were harmed? Ha ha...
🌈 [Rainbow] Yes, my characters would definitely kill me for writing the ending.
‍🎨 [Palette] Gold and blue.
🍩 [Donut] Uhhh strawberry cake and lemon cake.
🔒 [Lock] My friends, definitely!
🖋️ [Pen] A Princess and a sorcerer are gay and in love together but the universe is conspiring against them.
❌ [Cross] Being a love story about two women?

A list of your makeup collection?
There's no way I could list my whole makeup collection because I would be here for hours.
My everyday makeup is:
Nars, Soft Matte Concealer
Maybelline, Hyper Easy Liquid Eyeliner
Essence, Extreme Lasting Eye Pencil (for waterline)
Benefit, Roller Lash (or really whatever mascara I have on hand with a curved rubber wand because I prefer them for separation and length and I think they make my lashes blend in better with my falsies)
Flower Beauty, Light Illusion Powder
Patrick Ta, Contour Powder Duo
Hourglass Blush in Dim Infusion and Flesh Blush in Bloom (RIP)
Elf, Eyebrow Pencil and Benefit, Gimme Brow (the aren't holygrails or anything I just use whatever)
KKW Nude Lipliner in 0 and 0.5 (RIP)
I have a bunch of lipsticks I rotate through (almost all of them discontinued ;__; ) but the main ones you'll see me wearing in pictures are Tom Ford, Vanilla Suede aka Holden or Nars, Little Princess with Tarte, Busy Gal Lipgloss in 9 to 5
the eyeshadow palette I use for everyday is Viseart in Neutral Matte 01 which is not really worth the money but I feel obligated to use it since I bought it or the Mini Kaja Trio in Chocolate Dahlia
edit: oh yeah I forgot I love NYX brow tint pen for drawing on bottom lashes!!

Ymir Kayda
Ymir Kayda, the other newest edition at Hogwarts. Ymir was the youngest of the twins but taller than her sister Ember, if only by a little. She had an hourglass figure with bigger than average hands and feet. She was freckled with coiled hair in various hues of gold and copper; a true strawberry blonde. Her eyes were grey, changing from green to blue dependent on emotion. Ymir like her sister was quick witted and sarcastic; often making fun of others but only ever joking. If you got on the wrong side of Ymir, you would usually have a problem on your hands. Not afraid to throw a slap your way but knowing how well she knew her spells you would never want to see her with her wand drawn.
Ymir from a young age would be found with restless, dancing feet. Ballet was her first love and she put her heart and soul into it until one day she suffered a broken foot and she just hadn’t picked up her ballet points since. Yet her feet still moved in tandem through her life, as if dancing through. A dancer in the dark as she found her way by moonlight. She was glorious in her days of ballet. A potential scholarship just out of reach until the accident. Also creative in all manners of art. Murals painted like tapestries on the walls of their old manor. Endless array of colours with brush strokes only rivalled by Van Gogh. She had acute senses and a colour palette to die for.
Ymir was helpful in class, a little bit of a know it all – or so she thought. She lived for learning the most she could from a world that she was a part of but unfortunately hidden from for over a decade. Her subjects of choice were Astronomy; from a young age having an infatuation with everything to do with space and the sky. She knew the constellations like the back of her hand. She was sweet and kind but she was loved only by few, having quite the sharp tongue and fiery temper when it came to those who had wronged her or her friends. Jeongguk was her housemate and they were often found together in between classes as well as in them. They got along well. Jeongguk would say she was feisty and fiery, a definite Gryffindor. Other than her time spent with Jeongguk, she would often be found with some of the older boys at Hogwarts. Playing Chess with Namjoon; the smartest of his year. A Ravenclaw. Or she would be taking trips to the Owlery with Jin; the elder Gryffindor. Even practicing on the Quidditch Pitch with Hoseok; Hufflepuff’s Quidditch Captain, exchanging plays and taking part in some healthy competition sometimes joined by Taehyung; Hufflepuff’s Keeper.
Only finding her reluctancy when it came to Embers best friend; Jimin. A history between them put her at a disadvantage when trying to see past it. She was definitely one to hold a grudge. Too in tune with her fathers words from a young age. ‘Anyone who does you wrong is an enemy, Ymir. No matter the redemption' Although the enemy she was never sure of.  She only knew her father’s words that would haunt her throughout her days at Hogwarts. ‘Pure Bloods are good, Ymir. The rest are not deserving of your time or love’ Oh if only that was the case.
You can’t help who you fall in love with, right?

i do like the look of the apartment lots that’ll be in eco living land. but i’m not buying that thing full price. And still might not even buy it. when I really want an ABH eyeshadow palette I wait a full ass year before getting it because I want to be SURE that I really want it, and those are 42-45$ and that’s how much a flipping expansion pack is after tax so why don’t i wait a year for them???? because honestly in a year I bet some things from the pack will be made base game lmao. (lookin at you toddler stuff, parenthood, fitness stuff, and city living)
anywei i’m excited for base game ladders. I’ll be building some cute lil play tree houses with those, and building some fun towers. I’m always game for some free items in an update (again unless they were taken from existing packs that just bothers me.. Like bros you probably have unused wips from those packs. JUST USE THEM) but I always would rather gameplay elements being fixed/added. Which ig we are getting some of that too so i’m satiated.
for fun, expansion packs that I wouldn’t buy again but would buy an ABH palette: -Cats and Dogs, I would get subculture instead. -Island Living, I would wisfully look at all the pretty sulani pictures but play island paradise in the sims 3 instead and feel better, and I would buy sultry when it was out for the holidays. -oh and I wouldn’t buy Realm of Magic and Strangerville again and then I’d buy the 14 pan norvina palette. (not those big ass ones the og)  -OR take this: not getting Luxury Party Stuff and Perfect Patio Stuff (and simply dl a mesh edit of the base game hot tub lmao) and I would blow 20$ on the mini size of the hourglass setting powder I really like but jfc it’s so expensive the full size is 46 freaking dollars hourglass what the fuck.

Initial Designs with Media Experimentation
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are my initial designs, in which I designed an edit of dresses that has a variety of silhouettes, hourglass and looser/slimline. Additionally, I took my main inspiration from the March sisters and their individual styles, Jo and Beth tended to have a more looser slimline silhouette for their clothing. Whereas, Meg and Amy had more hourglass silhouettes with vast underskirts and petticoats.
I experimented with media on my initial designs, using a variety of medias. Pro markers, pencils, pastels and watercolours were my favourites to work with and they were the medias that I used for majority of my designs.
I used my colour palette across all of my designs, trying to make sure I stuck to the colours that I had chosen.
As well as media experimentation, I also further experimented with my faces as I had previously experimented with photographs of the March sisters for my heads, I wanted to try and illustrate the faces myself to experiment and see which I preferred. I illustrated the faces using pencil and shading to add detail. I really liked the outcome of this experimentation, however, if I were to use these on my final design boards I would redraw them and try and make the features of each of the sisters as accurate as possible.
On the final page of designs I have uploaded, I added media to the full design as I really liked the outcome and wanted to use them for my final designs.
