It's not symbolic. The first steam engines were rated in horsepower because they were literally designed to replace pit ponies which used to power the pumps and other machines in coal mines.

Since they were marketing them to people who literally used horses it was convenient to express the steam engine's power in terms of how many horses it would replace.

Okay, the rarepair supporter in me got activated, so let's rock some HorsePower here! (Also that's such a good name)

Pony tries to flirt in Japanese, but she isn't very confident in it and gets so mortified when she fumbles something... So Iida comes to the logical conclusion he should try to flirt with her in English! (If she's brave enough to do it, he can try flirting in a language that's not his own too)

The thing is. He's not good in English. At all. Cues getting help from the best person in class with English he knows. Who happens to be Kaminari.

Iida never in a million years thought he'd get tutoring from Kaminari. It works though. And Pony appreciates the effort (she smiled so bright the first time he spoke a whole conversation in English it was worth it)

Sometimes Monoma teaches Pony mildly rude phrases like they were romantic or makes up some Japanese courting etiquette that doesn't exist. Kendou is usually quick enough to remediate it.

Kaminari tried to teach Iida a "wrong" phrase too just for the sake of it (it would be so funny!), but Iida isn't gullible enough and knows who he's dealing with. So Denki apologized and didn't try again.

Iida ended up closer to Aoyama too, because he approached him to get more insight on how it feels like being on a foreign country and speaking a second language daily. It didn't really help much with Pony, since it's a very personal experience for everyone, but they got closer as friends.

Both Pony and Iida love races and racing. (Got it? Because of car races and horse races?)

Sometimes, Monoma and Kaminari talk about things that ACTUALLY exist (like White Day or that thing where you yawn and put your arm on the other person's shoulder during a movie) and Pony and Iida don't believe them.

They got voted as "most athletic couple" because they have a tendency to do laps around school as a warm up before training. And they are FAST.

These are so cute!! I love them both getting help from the Worst people to receive help from. Kaminari and Monoma are the last people you should ever go to as dating coaches, and yet theyre the two volunteering first (for totally non-nefarious purposes)

Iida and Pony doing laps together is adorable too. I think its so sweet when couples love going on walks/runs together. I could see the two of them jogging around the city after school, it starts off as a friendly training exercise and ends up being their own version of a date
