Hindi is not difficult. reading in Hindi is not difficult. writing in Hindi is not difficult. counting in Hindi is not difficult. Hindi numbers are not difficult (१२३४५६७८९०). alphabets क्ष,ष,फ are not difficult. you just consume, are surrounded by and have been taught english and the latin alphabets way more than your native language and script use some sense

Desi names sound so pretty but being a person who interacts with English media a lot it’s also hilarious to me how a lot of them are just nouns which when translated sound so silly, like.

Krishna, Aditya, Lakshmi, Samriddhi, cool.

But Sparsh. Khushi. Met a kid named Akshar once.

How do you study Hindi at the moment? 🥰

I use two resources to study Hindi at the moment; the first resource is an app called LingoDeer! It’s a little bit like Duolingo, but without the “lore,” I guess? I like it a lot! However, it is an app that requires a subscription to advance the learning levels. I believe it’s about $14.99 a month!!

The second resource is Hindipod101.com!! This website has both a free option and a subscription option, I believe the subscription is $30 per month? I’m not sure, I don’t use the subscription!

I also try to talk as much as possible!! I’m lucky enough to work for doctors whose patients speak Hindi as their native language!! So I try my best with them, and they’re very receptive to me!!

It's ridiculous how the word for today and tomorrow is the exact same thing in Hindi

I don't get how a language that has more than seventy synonyms for the moon can struggle with making up separate words for 'today' and 'tomorrow'

28.11.23, 1:26 am // i read लालची बंदर (the greedy monkey) on hyplern. it took me about 10 minutes to read 121 words. very slow, but i haven’t read in hindi for a long while, so i’m actually quite proud of how much i’ve retained.

the most difficult sentence i came across, as well as some vocab:

लेकिन बदकिस्मती से सुराख़ इतना छोटा था की वो अपनी मुट्ठी नहीं निकाल सका।

lekin badakismatee se suraakh itana chhota tha kee vo apanee mutthee nahin nikaal saka.

meaning: but unfortunately (due to bad luck), the opening was so small that [the monkey] could not get his fist back out.

मुट्ठी - fist

चट्टान - rock

गेहूँ - wheat

सुराख़ - hole, opening, eyelet, orifice

बदकिस्मती - bad luck, misfortune

अलबत्ता - however

ढीली - loose

लालची - greedy
