AU, where the Batman franchise is still ongoing on Earth in the future of Star Trek.
They come across a civilization that seems to be in strong state of fear. Then they find out that the population is not always like this but that one of their newer ‘rituals’ of their new Ruler has just taken place a little while ago. So obviously there seems to be a connection. During a Senior Officer meeting with the Captain it’s Riker who brings up the relation to the Scarecrow. And much to his own surprise there are quite a few others who actually get his reference. Worf (I can actually see a young Worf finding/being given Batman stuff and then he finds out more about Bruce Wayne and the Batman and he actually starts to relate a bit and finds just a little bit of comfort in it), Data (if only because during his research on Sherlock Holmes he came to find out that there is someone else who has the title ‘worlds greatest detective’ and there is actually an interesting comic about Sherlock Holmes, Watson, Robin and Batman working together), Geordi (Because Nerd) and much to Rikers own surprise the Captain himself (his father was actually the one who owned an old comic series, made from actual paper. He was not so much into it as a child but during his teenage and academy years he become at least sort of familiar with the franchise).
Riker ends up being right and the new Ruler actually used a form of fear toxin to oppress nearly the entire civilization and thanks to Mister Data who doesn’t breath the whole problem got cleared up.
Riker, of course did not forget and while he was not all that teasing with Worf (since he could actually imagine why Worf does/used to like it) he does tease the Captain about his interest in his teenage and academy years, thinking that Picard was probably not really only a fan of Batman but Catwoman. A possible interest in Catwoman being a reference to the knd of woman Picard usually likes, especially with Vash.
Picard doesn’t comment and tries to change the subject.
It was actually Harley Quinn. During her anti-hero phases mind you.
She has some psychological character deveopment and he was a different kind of young man back then.
#okay but just considering that 'Johnny' was wilder and freer and a bit of a womanizer#and Catwoman is great but Harley Quinn#I just think it would be absolutely hilarious if one of Picards cartoon/comic crushes in his youth had been Harley Quinn#having two favorite franchises and trying your best to somehow connect them

im pretty sure its a running joke in the kyokao fandom that they actively make each other worse which i think is absolutely hilarious (because like, yeah annoying capitalist x annoying capitalist) but what are some of the ways you think they improve each other? :D /gen
Great question!
I think Kyoya makes Kaoru more ambitious. Kaoru is smart enough to skirt by most of the time without much effort or forethought. I would not hesistate to believe that he and Hikaru are only doing like half their subjects and then taking tests for each other. I also think Kaoru is immature and nebulous about the future and what he wants from it.
Someone like Kyoya, who is very goal oriented and future focused would be somewhat of a motivating factor. Hikaru and Kaoru's decision to go to Tokyo University is more triggered by Haruhi and Nanako than Kyoya's still pending decision to stay in Boston, but I think Kyoya seeing what he wants and going for it is impressive. I think Kaoru would take his work more seriously, maybe take more of an interest in the business side of things if Kyoya made it more fun.
Meanwhile, I think Kaoru would motivate Kyoya to reevaluate what he thinks freedom means. Freedom is Kaoru's family motto and something Kyoya strives for and thinks he has- but has he? I think in the same way Tamaki makes him reevaluate the box his father has put him in, Kaoru would help recontextualise that a bit more. Yes, you don't have to be trapped in the expectations of your birthright, but maybe you don't need to be beholden to anyone's expectations of you- Kyoya himself said it doesn't matter as long as the people he cares about knows who he is, so maybe he should live by that instead.
The host club in general convinces Kyoya to have a bit more fun, but I think even Kaoru's specific situation- overshadowed by his elder brother, possibly disinherited due to reasons unrelated to merit- and the fact that Kaoru would be entirely unbothered by it would allow Kyoya to maybe reevaluate his options and pick ones that allow him that freedom. After all, those who live freely are the winners, right? And Kyoya wants to win.
I think this "Kaoru makes Kyoya a freer spirit" stops slightly short of Kaoru getting him on a motorbike at any point.
Basically, I think they mellow each other out. Kaoru works harder, Kyoya becomes less of a workaholic. Kaoru becomes a little more self-possessed, Kyoya becomes a little bit freer.
I also think, as me and @pilindiel were only discussing earlier, they mesh pretty well with each other's anxieties. They're two people who believe that they can only be love for the mask they put on, and two people who quite easily see through each other's masks. As long as the people you care about know who you are, nothing else matters- is as much about Kaoru as it is about Kyoya. It's an inadvertant, egotistical admission by Kyoya that he does know who Kaoru is and Kaoru does care about him, and vice a versa. Platonically, and bewildering to Kaoru at this point, but important nonetheless. Kyoya proves his point by even saying it and articulating it as a viewpoint that Kaoru would share- because he does know who Kaoru is, and nothing else about it matters.
But yeah, Kyoya believes that it is more important for the people he cares about to know him than it is for them to love him. And Kaoru is kind of into the whole evil scheming ambition thing so that negates that concern. And Kaoru meanwhile is terrified of being made obsolete and being left behind. Which is negated somewhat by Kyoya being the kind of guy with the dedication to stick to his convictions, one of which he has decided is the perpetuity of the host club. And one would be Kaoru too, of course.
Also just tacking on at the end because I'm rambling too much. I think Kyoya would make Kaoru more independent-- something Kaoru already strives for a bit more of, but there's nothing like giving someone a reason not to share a bedroom with their sibling anymore as that final push. And I think Kaoru would encourage Kyoya to be less self-isolating, less of a lone wolf. Mainly because he likes getting into other people's business. Kaoru loves teamwork <- freak.

I do not consider myself a good artist but Nyota/Michael ship has no art and @adorkastock inspired me by their hilarious post.

[Image description: a coloured pencil drawing of Nyota Uhura and Michael Burnham from Star Trek. Nyota is holding Michael in her arms newlywed style while Michael has one of her arms thrown over Nyota's shoulder and is aiming with a phaser somewhere off-camera.
Nyota is vaguely based on the Zoe Saldana portrayal from the Kelvin Timeline films. She's a black woman, she has dark skin with cold undertone, she wears her black straight hair in a high ponytail. She's wearing a peach-coloured Ops sweater uniform from Where No Man Has Gone Before, black trousers and black combat boots with the laces in colours of the lesbian flag. She also wears a golden Starfleet commbadge on her chest and a pair of small red earrings, also her nails are painted red. She's looking down at Michael attentively with a smile, her mouth half-opened.
Michael is a black woman with slightly darker skin with a warmer undertone (based on the portrayal by Sonequa Martin-Green). Her hair are styled like in season 2, short curls at the sides and freer curls on top of her head. She's wearing a sweater uniform from Where No Man Has Gone Before, coloured light-blue, black trousers, boring sleek black boots and a golden comm badge on her chest. She's aiming off-camera with a Discovery style phaser and looking concentrated where she's aiming to.
The background is white and there's some text, made to look slightly like an instagram post with comments. On top, there's post description from the user 'ensign Tilly', saying, "Nyota Uhura supporting a bisexual." In the bottom corner, a comment from J.T. Kirk, saying, "l.m.a.o. were u taking pictures in the middle of a firefight." Esign Tilly reponds with, "yes." J.T. Kirk responds with two 🙏 emojis. /end description.]
(1. the pastel sweater uniforms because they are the best. 2. I normally am better with Michael's hair but... shit happens. 3. emojis are sometimes so hard to draw haha)
again, please check out the original post by adorkastock. (image description in alt text). they have a ton of awesome pose references, don't miss out on them!

I hope this isn't rude to ask, but can I ask why you ship jingfu? I don't have an issue with it but I am curious
ANON HI LET ME NOW PROCEED TO TRY AND CONVERT YOU
this was my first post about jingfu!! its a little long but tldr, in chinese jing yuan's always calling her fu'qing which is lowkey an endearment, while fu xuan almost always uses formal personal pronouns w/ everyone else but never with him in their 3 main quest conversations
i also just really love the idea of these two immortals having run the luofu together for so long? beneath the superficial annoyance, there's an unspoken, unshakable trust, born from centuries of partnership. you can't call them friends, because they've long surpassed that, but they aren't your typical lovers either? and can you even call them lovers if they never address what's between them?
i also think there's a lot of suppression of feelings here because they're two of the six charioteers, they have a duty to the luofu, they can't afford to compromise themselves like that especially since they're such powerful figures. people would probably start wondering if the general has favoritism or something like that.
plus, in war, fu xuan cant afford to be selfish—what if she foresees two victories, one bought by half their army's deaths, and one bought by the general's? she has to remain rational. she has to keep thinking of the luofu's needs above her own
im just in love with these characters and their century-long situationship, just slowly simmering for hundreds of years. their orbits are so intertwined that when one enters a room, the other half-turns on instinct, magnetized to their presence. silly and childish on the surface, but when you look closer there is just so much to mine from their canon and implied interactions
i also love how they can be jing yuan and fu xuan around each other. fu xuan, of course, knows well enough how the dozing general, while slightly based in truth, is still a carefully kept-up facade. she knows that beneath all that, he's still one of the sharpest persons around. and around jing yuan, fu xuan is freer, more unrestrained. she throws childish insults at him, stamps his foot. first: the fact that she feels comfortable doing that with him, unfazed by all his authority. and second: the fact that she doesn't have to be the master diviner around him, only fu xuan, bright and fiery.
...and of course! they're just really fucking funny! fu xuan is such a little hater and it's hilarious watching jing yuan keep teasing her, i find it so cute when she gets mad over the petty things he does hehe ❣️
i will end this rant with type c fu xuan <3
#jingfu#jing yuan#fu xuan#jingxuan#fuyuan#hsr#honkai star rail#poppy speaks#ask#please watch the type c fu xuan vid its so silly

follow up anon. It kills me that we’ll never know what was going on in Pete’s head during soul punk. What did he feel seeing Patrick on stage a completely different, seemingly happier/freer person than he ever had been with fob? Did he write about it? Was it as cut and dry as “good for my friend, I’m proud of him.” Did he feel he was losing someone he thought he knew so well? Or were they interacting and friendly enough to know that he’d always be the same Patrick, just brighter? hmph.
We really will never know because anything Pete says -- even if he claims to be telling us the absolute truth -- cannot be trusted because nothing these two say about the hiatus can ever be trusted, not because they're being deliberately obfuscatory but because I think they genuinely have rewritten that time period in their heads so often that they can't actually really, truly remember.
In the Connie Willis time-travel novel "To Say Nothing of the Dog" (which I HIGHLY recommend, it's hilarious and charming), the conceit is that the time travelers have a difficult time landing near "important" events that can't be changed, so they aim for the event but they encounter "slippage" and can't get near it because time protects itself around those big, major events. I feel like something like that happens around the hiatus for Pete and Patrick, like, they can't really get near it anymore in their heads because it's just TOO BIG, their memories have distorted it for their own protection.
Anyway, this is what fanfiction is for, give me all that hiatus-era stuff trying to get into Pete Wentz's head.

The passive-aggressiveness towards the chief justice in the description of the house of the Rue Plumet is kind of funny:
“but behind the pavilion there was a narrow courtyard, and at the end of the courtyard a low building consisting of two rooms and a cellar, a sort of preparation destined to conceal a child and nurse in case of need”
The “in case of need” makes me laugh when it was clearly intended to be used that way, given that the paragraph begins with the note that the chief justice used this place for his mistress.
This detail was hilarious:
“Only the birds beheld this curiosity. It is probable that the linnets and tomtits of the last century gossiped a great deal about the chief justice.”
It simultaneously sets up the house as one tied to nature (it attracts lots of birds) and gives us the image of avian gossip circles.
The house is an escape from the convent. Aside from the general creepiness of it when we first read about it and the comparisons to prisons there, here, Valjean being “condemned” to the galleys is explicitly equated with Cosette being “condemned” to the convent if they’d stayed. This choice offers Cosette freedom, even if she benefited from the convent’s education and the shelter it provided for all of those years.
While “give Cosette freedom” is a noble goal, Valjean’s way of thinking about it is sad. His fear that Cosette will hate him is heartbreaking, and rather than conceptualizing the matter as what’s best for her, he imagines keeping her in the convent as a crime - more specifically, as a “robbery.” Even his relationship with his daughter is analyzed through the lens of his “crime,” with Valjean seeking to avoid being a thief again rather than to act in her best interest. He does do so in the end, and he does love her. The issue is more that his problems with his own self-image (seeing himself as a criminal) affect his ability to provide for Cosette in a way that’s healthy for himself. Cosette still gets the freedom she needs, but Valjean can’t think about that in a way that doesn’t make her rights a reflection of his morality. Worst of all, he doesn’t begin to think about Cosette’s freedom because of something she says or does; he thinks about it because he feels “too happy” in the convent:
“It will be remembered that Jean Valjean was happy in the convent, so happy that his conscience finally took the alarm.”
Leaving the convent is a good thing for Cosette, but unfortunately, it’s a move fueled most of all by Jean Valjean’s lack of self-worth. Having felt happy, he decided that something must be wrong – because how could he feel happy? – and sought to “rectify” whatever it was, with the constant fear that Cosette would hate him lingering in the background.
Moreover, while the house is freer than the convent, it’s not without its problems. Hugo’s phrasing in describing how this house was used for affairs may be funny, but it does reveal this place’s ties to an older social order, one embodied by M Gillenormand. That the house is run down may imply that these ties have eroded, but it’s nonetheless true that Cosette and her father will have to navigate the existing social order here to a much greater extent than in the convent. And having seen what being treated as a “mistress” in this time led to for Fantine, that can be dangerous, too.
Jean Valjean also can’t shake his old habits of isolating himself. Again, these habits are based on legitimate fears to an extent; not having neighbors and having various safehouses shelters him from the scrutiny of others and from the police. At the same time, he himself knows how unlikely it is that anyone’s looking for him after disappearing for so many years, especially with how much age has changed him. It’s difficult to evaluate how much his precautions are reasonable and how much they illustrate his constant need to hide, but they certainly leave both him and Cosette isolated. Being out of the convent may have actually limited her social circle, since she now only has Valjean to talk to instead of having the other pupils as well), and both of them are likely grieving Fauchelevent to some extent. This isolation is, again, understandable, but it’s not good for either of them.
Spoilers below:
The introduction to this house feels so representative of all it comes to be as well. It’s “solemn” and secretive because that’s what Valjean is. A house made to conceal is ideal to him. And yet what it’s supposed to hide is an affair, which is somewhat fitting for the place where Cosette first experiments with romance. The garden not only serves as the site of this, but symbolizes her youth as she enters the “spring” of her life. It combines Valjean’s sad secrecy with her blossoming youth and need for change, just as the plants in a garden transform each season.

gonna hit u with a wild ask for the character opinion game what're ur thoughts on
-jang hayoung (my favorite orv character if the main trio didnt exist)
-kim namwoon
-shin yoosung
-kujo tenn
-kujo takamasa (my favorite i7 character if i give myself over to insanity but i haven't yet so it's nagi or mina)
-natsume minami
BE WILD! AMAZING CHARACTER CHOICES BY THE WAY, Chitra! And thank you so much for the ask!
Spoilers for ORV and i7 under the cut
So Jang Hayoung.
To be fair, the fandom did have to deal with Jan Hayong being misgendered in a sense. I have my own thoughts about that but that's honestly a somewhat negligible point for me? Because THAT whole discourse is more kdj centred (own problems, hence the slight mark on ignore canon) but for Jang Hayoung herself??? Mildly obsessed. Wall of communication and her own character being a product of communication between author and reader. The way she embodies both miscommunication and breaking boundaries and walls with it. Her funny and hilarious crush on the Demon King of Salvation but clear disdain towards KDJ. She is neat and such a character but also such a self insert and I don't know. Like... she's a link between author and reader, she is her own person, she is waroed by the narrative, she's freer from the narrative than most. I love everything about her.
Kim Namwoon
I don't have many strong feelings about Kim Namwoon except that he deserved better but KDJ wouldn't let him deserve better because KDJ is a self-hating idiot. He is like the definition of a plot device character but if the plot was some guy's intense sense of self-hatred. He is well written in the sense that there was definitely more to the guy but that KDJ didn't let it be fully realised. But I do love their obsession with mecha. Very valid
Shin Yoosung
CHARACTER OF ALL TIME I LOVE HER I WOULD DIE FOR HER I WOULD -
Listen. Shin Yoosung is like a daughter to me, okay? Which I guess does note beat the KDJ reader self insert allegations but seriously. Her characters arcs (yes, plural on both)??? Her power? The fact that KDJ wanted to give her (and Gilyoung) the kind of childhood he couldn't ever have but that her hands were already sort of tainted with blood? Canon isn't real doesn't mean I hate what canon did to her, by the way. It's that KDJ hated what canon did to her and...changed it. Shin Yoosung is like what if you put a little girl with so much guilt and made her face the realisation of that guilt - that she IS or can be as bad as she currently fears. Also, she is so mean sometimes to Gilyoung and that is so real for her. (Kiss them is platonic, by the way)
Also. Older Shin Yoosung's aesthetic and gender. Yes.
Kujo Tenn
Insane, self-sacrificial, selfish, and Profession. As the Discord group put it: ableist icon, too. Tenn is like what if you mixed the yandere trope with the stoic soldier trope or something (don't listen to that I am literally just spitting nonsense here.) But for real....he's SUCH a well-written character that that itself drives me BONKERS. He's got such Eldest Child energy BUT - BUT THIS IS IMPORTANT - there is a youngest child inside him screaming for attention too!! (Which I think TRIGGER gave). You never can completely hate him even if you do think he should be slapped. As a treat. The writers just went OFF on his character and I could think about it all day and one day will try to articulate it all. He's just......neat
Kujo Takamasa
In my defense of the design thing....he really gives off SUCH Phantom of the Opera vibes, it's SO funny to me. I say beast unleashed when he's just a poor meow meow who should have used his money for therapy rather than the stuff he pulled in canon. Is he for me? Nah, not really. But do I find him hilarious from an observer's point of view? Absolutely
Natsume Minami
Minami and Sogo both made me realize I might have a vibe with characters who look frail and have white hair but are deeply unwell inside and express that through toxic violence of some sort. To be honest, my favourite thing about Mina is that he might be a subversion of the composer trope? Like a foil to Sogo. Usually, I think composers are written as tortured souls who want to express a deep but beautiful feeling in music. Mina is a tortured soul but his feelings are raw and ugly and frankly terrifying and he was encouraged to express those through art. Which is honestly great and makes me want to bite his character arc like a watermelon. Also, at this point, he's probably the only one holding ZOOL's bad boy image together because the others can act it out well enough but they're all so pathetic and sweethearts at heart (took some time getting there for Torao, though.) Minami is not a sweetheart in any sense or form, even if he is pathetic, and that's very cool of him
#note's notes#idolish7#orv#omniscient reader's viewpoint#fandom spamdom#i have#so many feelings about shin yoosung#that will take an entire essay and book to articulate#and idolish7 my beloved#anyway thank you for the ask! this was so fun!

Kelce seems freer, too. He doesn’t need to be asked about Taylor; he mentions her unreservedly, lavishes praise on her, calls her “hilarious,” “a genius,” notes that they share compatible worldviews, especially when it comes to family and work. “Everybody knows I’m a family guy,” he says. “Her team is her family. Her family does a lot of stuff in terms of the tour, the marketing, being around, so I think she has a lot of those values as well, which is right up my alley.”
One of Kelce’s friends describes a sweet, magical moment, a late-night gathering around Kelce’s firepit. Kelce and Swift looked like two “peas in a pod,” the friend says, and at one point they even burst into a memorable duet of—“Teenage Dirtbag”?

s5 episode 6 thoughts
(wipes away tears) my tummy hurts
so, i broke my own rule, and watched these next 2 episodes back to back. like i mentioned before, in some ways i am very happy i did this, to experience the sadness all at once rather than dragging it out over 2 days. but now that i have to edit and post these, whew boy. it’s going to be draining.
i wonder how the actors felt about these plot points of constant sorrow? do you think it got draining after a while? do you think they too wanted a break?
anyway. let us go back to 3 hours ago, when i was more innocent, younger, freer.
so, last episode had its ups and downs, and the episode before that was near perfection. i know a little about what happens in this one, and i’m ready to be hurt.
(author’s note: she was not, in fact, ready to be hurt)
i shall refrain from any further comment, beyond the fact that i am reading the episode description… scully must be utterly shocked to think that her sister had a secret child!!!
oh, and it’s a christmas episode? which i think is a little early since i’m watching this in november, but i’m sure it made sense when it aired. i’ll have to mentally get myself festive.
anyway. let us begin. i’m excited.
(author’s note: i should not have been excited)
the scully family is visiting someone! scully observes that this woman is huge. which is actually hilarious. queen of speaking her mind.
ohhhh it’s bill’s house, and bill’s wife tara who we are meeting!! scully is unsettled because it is the exact same layout as their childhood house on the naval base :( i bet that feels super weird, to be in a place exactly like your childhood home, but yet not it
oh no, maggie is really sad because she misses mr. scully and melissa :( scully seemed to want to talk about it, but her mother darted away
(these guys definitely subscribe to that john mulaney bit about being irish: "i'll keep all my emotions right here, and then one day, i'll die")
now the phone is going off, and she wants bill to answer it. but it’s for her????
a mysterious voice: “she needs you, dana. go to her” (proceeds to hang up)
this answered no questions at all.
she uses her special FBI privileges to trace the call!! and bill takes her to where she needs to go. which is….?
a house?
there are a lot of cop cars and ambulances at this here house. AND WHO IS THIS RUDE MAN TALKING TO SCULLY???? (later revealed to be named detective kresge)
“no offense, scully fbi” “i’ve been here thirty minutes, guarantee you no one’s called out to you or anyone else” <- UM???? i will throw hands. disrespect her at your own risk.
he explains that the phone is off the hook which. okay. so yeah, that would make calling difficult. but you don’t have to be a dick about it.
oh……. i see what has happened here… mrs. roberta sim is dead, and it’s a suicide.
(was actually pretty shocked at how they just. showed her in the tub like that. damn. it was a lot)
bill is freaked tf out. “what’s going on? they’re joking about you getting a call from a dead woman” <- woah woah woah who are these first responders who have time to MAKE FUN OF SCULLY WHILE ON A CASE!???? bill, i give you permission to sic ‘em. put all that rage to good use
OH MY GOD, SHE THOUGHT THE VOICE ON THE PHONE WAS MELISSA???
(spooooooky intro…………)
is she going to call mulder about this, or will this be a special scully alone christmas episode that makes me weep like a baby? let’s find out!!!!
she is back at the sim house with mr. sim and detective kresge, who says there was an outgoing call around the same time scully received that mysterious message, even though the phone was out. he claims it must have been some sort of glitch. hmm... suspicious.
she cannot stop staring at this little kid, though…
at family dinner, scully must excuse herself to make a phone call. she calls mulder!!! who is running in to pick up!!! did he just get out of the shower, or did he just come inside or something, because he has a funny hat on? anyway, she doesn’t say anything, just hangs up on him once she hears his voice.
ohh :(
she must have been trying to see if the phone was really working... so she called the number she knew by heart and the person she knew would pick up... i will cry
back at the dinner table, bill’s wife tara's baby is kicking, and she’s talking about how she can’t wait to have more children. scully looks like she is being sucker punched.
i mean it hasn’t been addressed, but i’ve assumed that she’s come to the conclusion that kids are not really on the table for her after we found mulder with all of her eggs. which is still crazy, btw. has he just been holding onto them? or did he give them to her offscreen?
tara says this line: “i can’t help but think that life before now was somehow… less” <- OKAY THAT WAS A RUDE THING TO SAY AND YOU’RE GONNA MAKE SCULLY CRY???? LOOK AT HOW SAD SHE IS???? what the HELL???
way to sit there and straight up tell your sister-in-law her life is a boring prelude until she has kids. which she cannot have. so her life is going to be, in your words, a prelude forever. because god forbid a woman have a life without a child. or if she wants one and cannot have one, her life will be unfulfilling. tara, i get that you're in a busy space mentally rn, you are sick in the head for that.
despite tara saying something so out of pocket that i would have simply left the table, scully pulls it together with smile, gets through dinner, and starts washing the dishes. because she is a trooper.
maggie comes in and asks what is the matter. and scully LIES and says "nothing". i don’t get the impression these two are big on talking about their emotions.
but she does that mom thing where she puts her hands on her hips and scully spills; she doesn’t even have to finish the sentence and her mom understands and is hugging her, saying she’s so sorry.
OH MY GOD, SHE’S CRYING??? and her voice is wavering and she tells her it’s okay but “i just never realized how much i wanted it until i couldn’t have it” <- OH MY GOD. i knew this was coming but it still hurts.
SCULLLLYYYY WHYYYYY. the way she says she is okay, when she so clearly isn't...
so she’s stuck sleeping in this room that is going to be a nursery, which just seems insanely cruel…..
as she drifts off into sleep, we get a flashback of baby her with her brother, saying he’s going to cook her rabbit into a stew!! not very kind. now where did she put the rabbit? is it a real rabbit or a plush friend?
it seems he is in the basement. NOOOOO, it is a real baby bunny, and she put him in a lunchbox... he died and is filled with maggots!! NOOOO. oh poor baby scully just wanted to keep her rabbit friend safe.......... :(
i would guess that this is one of her earliest memories associated with death. and now we know that bill has always been mean.
this must be some sort of traumatic experience mixed with a nightmare because she is also seeing that little girl from earlier at the sim's house… just watching her in the basement, hunting for the rabbit…. but such a terrible nightmare is interrupted by a phone ringing
it is her cellphone at 2:30 in the morning!!!! it’s the same voice as before saying "she needs your help"!! she asks the voice why she is calling her... but is met with silence
she goes to the sim's house and explains that yet again the call was traced to their house, which he claims to have no explanation for. and mr. sim tells her to get the fuck out basically, which i understand he has had a really terrible day, but it still feels cold :/ just slamming the door on her face like that
creepy child is watching her leave…. ominously...
detective kresge is here, and scully wants everything he has on the roberta sim case. he says there is no case, it was just a simple suicide. she says please let me see whatever it is you have, for the sake of the season. which works on him, actually. i did not think it would.
ohhhh, that is going to be a photo of her wrists in the evidence pile. again, not really pulling any punches here.
detective kresge says that there was a domestic disturbance at the house the week before; it wasn't a very happy house. and roberta sim had some medicine in her system. scully finds a photo of the daughter in her purse, which she asks to borrow. which he probably thought was weird as hell.
it seems she is going to compare it with her own family photos. there are pictures of melissa in japan as a kid, and this emily child looks identical!!!
now she is furiously typing into a computer, looking for birth records. she cannot find any records on emily because she was adopted. so she’s calling someone from work
oh... she needs the full information from her sister’s death :(
another flashback?? or nightmare? hard to tell. little scully is walking down to a casket at church, seeing the blood from roberta sim dripping from it.
ah, must have been a nightmare. bill wakes her up. he asks her what she’s doing and she’s sneaking about saying there is some unfinished work she has.
detective kresge is still being a dick as she goes and asks him for more help on this case. she thinks it was a murder!!! OHHHH she slams him over the head with the chair of facts and logic: how tf could the phone be off the hook if mr. sim called the police when he found her????? checkmate.
and she DEMANDS an autopsy. queen of getting things done.
well, she is going to do that autopsy herself. and she doesn’t find any evidence of pills in roberta sim's stomach!! this dude doing the autopsy with her is also being a dick. why is everyone so mean to scully all of the time? i have said it before and i will say it again: i can throw hands
she finds a needle puncture in roberta sim's foot!!! it was meant to be overlooked. ohohoh, something is afoot here.
so they go to mr. sim’s house and he starts yelling at scully right away, saying it is her fault that he is being investigated, and what do they find but a NEEDLE!!! he claims it is for daily anemia injections for his daughter. scully lets him know that they are going to check that claim out.
there are people out front watching her????? when she sees them, they leave. ummm.....
so she sneaks back into bill’s place at night to find the reports she ordered on melissa and the mysterious daughter emily. and the DNA tests match up perfectly!!!!
maggie enters!!!! and she asks where she was all day!!!
she tells maggie to sit down… and explains how the two sets of DNA match.
(very dramatic fade to black as scully tells her emily is melissa’s daughter)
she is now explaining to maggie that according to the tests they ran, there is a 60% chance that melissa is emily’s mother. and it lines up with the time that melissa was running up and down the coast, and no one knew where she was!!! maggie is shocked because she is sure melissa would have told her if she was having a baby. i can imagine that this is hard to hear.
maggie isn’t listening, however, and tries to explain that scully is still connected to melissa, which is why she is projecting this child upon her... ?????????????????
(i think she is trying to be supportive of scully's grief, but also writing her off as irrational, which feels like a slap in the face. girl... she did not hallucinate the gene testing out of sadness ???)
(i am 90% sure that scully is the only one in this family that actually goes to therapy. because the reactions of her family seem to indicate this)
a flashback scene to teenage years, where young scully and melissa are shaking presents before christmas, trying to figure out what they are. OHHHH IT’S HER FAMOUS NECKLACE…. and maggie, who catches them in the act of their crime, puts it around her neck, saying it means god is with you and watching over you. but then it turns into a vision of herself. oh poor scully and her terrible flashback nightmares :(
the detective is here to see her. they found huge bank deposits from mr. sim!!! one was deposited- from his wife- after she was dead!! and they’re all coming from a pharmaceutical company!!!! this is deeply suspicious…
emily is a patient at this clinic, where they were allegedly treating her for a rare type of anemia. key word: allegedly
oh this is really juicy. mrs. sim wanted to pull her from the trial, but the pharmaceutical company made payments to keep her involved. and this doctor- dr. calderon- says he gave that medicine they found in roberta sim's system not to emily, but for mr. sims, who said he was suffering from migraines!!!
mr. sim HATES to see them coming, and he is now under arrest for REAL.
scully takes emily and puts her into her carseat. and emily grabs her necklace!!! scully looks deeply amused.
OH MY GOD, SHE GIVES HER THE NECKLACE???? she must be really convinced that is melissa’s baby for her to part with the necklace. it means she wants god to watch over her……… she is so sad as they drive away
bill is having a navy christmas party while scully sits there sadly. bill summons her to the kitchen. he wants to know what her deal is!!
MAGGIE TOLD BILL ABOUT HOW SHE THINKS EMILY IS MELISSA’S BABY??? mrs. scully CANNOT keep a secret to save her life omfg....
“she called you from beyond the grave to tell you that? sounds like something that partner of yours would say” <- bill, you can count your days.
“it does not matter where that phone call came from. what matters is that there is a little girl who needs my help” <- YOU TELL HIM!! she must do the right thing, always and forever
“this isn’t about any little girl, dana. it’s about you. it’s about some… emptiness, some void inside yourself that you’re trying your hardest to fill” <- okay this is it. bill, i hated you before, but if i were her, i would go no contact at this moment
(as i edit my notes, i am all the more shocked by his cruelty and his unending ability to somehow get more patronizing when you think he has reached his peak. just a nasty guy, this bill scully. "some void inside yourself" genuinely fuck off)
“bill, i don’t expect you to understand, but i am not going to stand her and justify my…”
(her telling him off was interrupted by a phone call)
OHHH, SIM CONFESSED TO THE MURDER!!! then why did the witnesses lie about seeing him at the doctor’s office??
she leaves bill’s dumbass party to go deal with this, but the men from before who were watching her are there at sim's jail cell too!!!!
she gets out of her car and runs after them, but you cannot outrun a car… detective kresge claims those men are his lawyers, and they had to have only visited him for 10 minutes tops
OH SHIT. mr. sim tried to hang himself!!!! or did he......
scully comes back “home” to bill’s house, and he runs into her, saying he was about to go over to the neighbor's house with some cookies. she tells him that mr. sim is dead, and whoever it was that did it also framed his death as a suicide. so she must be thinking it was those guys from the car who were watching her that did it, because they had just come in to talk to him. and perhaps that those same men were responsible for the "suicide" of mrs. sim.
bill says he has to show her something. what could he possibly have at this time?????
OHHH.... it’s a photo of melissa right before the child was allegedly born, and she does not look pregnant at all. scully points out that you can have a baby without being pregnant, but bill is not having it.
oh my GOD??? he says she’s making this child into melissa’s daughter to fulfill her need? and he claims to understand, but warns that she is only going to hurt herself??
scully is a better woman than me because i would have packed my shit and left right then and there. actually, i would have left a WHILE ago. holy hell. let’s all ignore the science that the doctor did, right? because scully’s just some cRaZy gRiEVinG wOmAN!1!!1! bill honestly could not be more patronizing if he tried. that baby of his is gonna have a terrible home life.
someone is here to see her from the county to talk about the adoption (later revealed to be named chambliss). scully put in an application for adoption!!! oh my god???
chambliss says that her application isn't looking good, because she’s single, unmarried, never been in a serious relationship (and what the fuck kinda impact is that going to have on her ability to raise a child??? is one parent's love not enough?? or are they worried about her dying and emily being an orphan or something??), and in a dangerous occupation (okay, that reason actually makes sense). they’re rejecting her, and she’s crying, saying she’s questioned her priorities since she got cancer
“ever since i was a child, i’ve never allowed myself to get too close to people. i’ve avoided emotional attachment” (yeah girl we can tell…)
“perhaps i’ve been so afraid of death and dying that any connection just seemed like a bad thing. something that wouldn’t last” stop. stop i’ll cry. you love something so much and it dies anyway. like that bunny in the lunchbox.
“but i don’t feel that anymore” tears. in my eyes.
ohhhh my gosh, chambliss points out that emily would need constant supervision, that her condition is incurable, and while scully may have experience with terrible illness, she would have to relive it through the eyes of a child. and scully says she thinks she’s ready. chambliss says they’ll review her final application, and they shake hands, saying merry christmas.
so would she just??? leave the FBI?? to raise emily?? is that even possible at this point in time? or would she stay in the FBI and have to hire like the highest quality daycare of all time? i feel so bad for scully, but i don't see how this could work...
scully sits down, and is taken back to a chat with melissa years ago, before leaving for quantico. her dad is telling her that she is making a mistake, but melissa reminds her it’s not his life.
(god, her dad was mean too)
“but you know, when i started med school, it felt so right. it just seemed like that’s where i was supposed to be, and… then, by the time i graduated, i just knew it was wrong. but now the FBI feels right, and… what if that’s wrong, too?”
(and we can, and SHOULD, analyze this to hell and back. but right now i am tapped into the plot, so this might be something i come back to and write a thinkpiece on)
melissa says “there is no right or wrong. life is just a path. you follow your heart and it’ll take you where you’re supposed to go”
scully replies: “i don’t believe in fate. i think we have to choose our own path”
“well, just don’t mistake the path for what’s really important in life”
“which is what?”
“the people you’re going to meet along the way. you don’t know who you’re going to meet when you join the FBI. you don’t know how your life is going to change…. or how you are going to change the life of others”
oh melissa... how i miss you... and she didn't know who she would meet...
ohhhh, tara wakes her up the next morning :( and it’s christmas :(
but before they can open presents, someone from the FBI is at the door with something for scully……
bill tries to sign for it and the FBI courier says no, we need dana. lmao. put him in his place.
so she opens the file and...
AND SHE TELLS THEM THAT IT SAYS SHE IS EMILY’S MOTHER????
(to be continued)
(punches wall)
okay, so i regret the words i typed earlier about me being excited for these next two episodes. WHYYYY??? why was i excited for this!!! i was a simple FOOL. i knew what was coming. and i know what is to happen next!!!
i am going to be SICK!!!! considering breaking my own rule and watching the next episode right now….. oh my gosh. wait. wait. let me try and get some more of my own thoughts out first, so that if i do go and do that, i can make them coherent….
fuck. all of them were so mean to her and she was RIGHT. everyone needs to STOP BEING MEAN TO HER. bill, i HATE YOU. maggie, you at least tried, but you SHOULD HAVE BELIEVED HER.
man. man i cannot sit on this like i usually do. apologies, but i must continue at ONCE.
her grief………
it has been 12 hours since i watched this episode and i have somewhat gathered my thoughts. scully just feels this constant need to do the right thing, even if she doesn't know how to do it. i'm just shocked at how she was willing to drop everything and adopt this girl she thought was born to her sister, and i am shocked by the fact she remains civil with her family when they treat her like a fool. scully is by far a better person than me. but at the same time, i'm not *that* shocked, because we have always known how intense her moral compass is.
so, it was an episode where it was just scully. and while i am always deeply thankful for such an episode, it usually does come with some intense pain.
i literally cannot imagine how she must have felt hearing that she has a child she never knew about. i mean, emily was 3!! that is 3 years she was out in the world and scully had no idea!! and to have her autonomy taken from her entirely... i just cannot wrap my brain around it.
while this episode was very good, i do not think it is one i would rewatch anytime soon for sheer levels of emotion. and boy, i did in fact go ahead and watch the next one right after, something i had vowed to NEVER do, but here we are... i hope to get both of these writeups posted today so i can experience all the emotions in one weekend and then release them into the wind. except, of course, i am sure they will haunt me forever.
(melissa's love coming from beyond the grave to give her those phone calls... the ghost of christmas past... her paranormal experience leading her to family... wahhhhh)
#(kicks a rock with my shoe)#how do you go back from this if ur scully bro??? how do you just. clock into work the next day.#i tend to have a problem with TV shows because they'll just be like#(incredibly devastating thing happens to character and they have no time to process it and we move on for Plot Reasons)#anyway. she must really love her family because bill is so mean to her and even her mother didn't believe her!!!#and her mother's reasoning was “melissa would have told me” which is lowkey so selfish to think that scully is lying because#you clearly knew your daughter *so* well. she literally fucked off to the coast for years!#anyway. AHHH#hoping to get the next part up in a few hours#juni's x files liveblog#5x06#the x files#txf

Does no one else think Beron might just be gwyn’s grandfather? Like I can see that being true. Being a massive hyprocrite having a child with a ‘lessor fae’ but being bigoted and horrid and forging Lucien and Jesminda for their relationship. Checks out. And I far more enjoy the idea of Lucien and Eris being her uncles personally as well. I do also wonder if Gwyn has any autumn powers as well.
Oh I totally do!
The thing is it's possible for a lot of characters to be Gwyn's grandfather. It's possible that it's Lucien, and it's possible that it's Eris. It could literally be any guy in the Autumn Court. That doesn't mean it's likely, though.
Yeah I think it would be hilarious if Gwyn's grandfather was Eris and then she ended up mated to Az. But it's more likely Beron because:
Autumn Court people were freer to come and go during the time that Gwyn and Catrin were conceived and we know for sure it's someone from Autumn
Beron isn't the most... morally upstanding of people? He is 100% the kind of person to have an affair and then begrudge his wife for doing the same.
It would avoid having a single, potentially coupled up person having a secret child with someone else. As much as I dislike Eris, I wouldn't be surprised if sjm sees him as someone who can end up happy eventually, and for her happy means coupled up.
There is a certain kind of messy that I enjoy that I don't think would actually be canon. Beron, though. That's messy and he's already a dick, so it fits perfectly. Like you said, it would show him to be a hypocrite, and give Lucien and Eris another family member who they could actually have a relationship with.

I think the humour isn’t that different to what dnp had in videos like that who’s your daddy game, doing outrageous things with babies for comedic effect. The only difference is Dan with his dd persona being more exaggerated, and Louise not necessarily being on the same wavelength like Phil was.
I’m still a bit baffled by some of the reactions people on twitter had to the video honestly, I thought it was hilarious
yeah, yeah. i think Dan let himself be freer with Louise (compared to others) so it felt more like he usually is with Phil. which means less inner sensorship. maybe she wasn't ready for that with this specific topic.

100 Years Young (Maybe): A Hilarious Look Back (and a Terrified Glance Forward) at Life
Write a letter to your 100-year-old self. Sunlight slants, paints the day gold,Whispers secrets yet untold.Hope lingers long in hearts of green,Dreaming futures, yet unseen. Dearest Future Me (Hopefully Not TOO Future Me), Hey there, Grandma! It’s you, but way younger and wrinkle-freer (hopefully). Can you believe we actually made it to 100? Honestly, back in my middle-aged days, I wasn’t so…

if nasir sought judgement for his decisions, he would find none of it here. tion would listen, he would tell nasir when he agreed with him, and when he didn't, but whatever the choice he made, whatever decision he thought best, he would abide by his wishes, and cast no aspersions. "or perhaps," he began, thoughtful gaze lingering on nasir for a moment. "he will surprise you, and he will understand. perhaps he will even thank you for it, when the time comes." there was no guarantees - but there was none that nasir's more pessimistic view would come to be.
"the truth will do more harm to him that good right now." and more harm to nasir, but tion did not think it was helpful in that moment to point it out. "when he is more mature, when his understanding of the world has deepened, perhaps that will change. for now, i see no reason to upset the boy. i understand that this is difficult for you but upturning the apple cart is of little benefit to him at this point." he did not know if he could live with it, his words easier said than done, but they were living with the consequences of a pact long since made. to dwell on it would bring nothing but more regret than nasir already bore.
a wry smile crossed his face. "perhaps i did," he conceded. his proposal had been driven by one thing - because she was pretty. his next would be given with far more discernment. "and yet i still live with the mortification of rejection all the same. still, perhaps it is her loss. i have money now." he delivered the words with a sort of seriousness that only lasted a few seconds, before tion began to laugh. he might have been joking, but he was still more bitter than he would let on.
nasir seemed to find his ordeal with the princess hilarious, and perhaps to an outsider, it was. for tion, it felt more like she was about to march him to the gallows herself, but with hindsight, he could be a good sport about it. "some friend you are," he half-grumbled, swirling his wine in his goblet. "it is lucky for me that i am accustomed to struggle." his patience had been tested to its very limit, but he had managed to keep his composure with viserra. he supposed that was something, even if he had walked away looking the fool.
"maybe i am picky," he mused. "i admit that i give the matter more consideration now than as a young man, when nobody wished to marry me in the first place." such was the irony of it. when he had been freer with his affections, he had been too poor of a marriage prospect to take a gamble on. now he would make a strong match, he struggled to find a woman to meet his ideals. for all of tion's steady presence, under it all lay a hunger, an ambition, a need to always seek the next best thing. but a bride was for life. if he were to wed, could one woman be enough? or would he always resent that he did not go for better?
now matilda tyrell - cousin to a king, close enough to the line of succession to matter. that was the best a man like him could hope for, save for the likes of a woman who wore her own crown. "she's tempting," he admitted, raising a hand to press his knuckles to his chin in thought. "any man would be a fool not to think about it. but..." he shrugged one shoulder. "i'll not be the only one looking at her dowry and her connections, as well as her face. wylliam swann or not, if i was the king, i'd not marry her to a reachman. she's too valuable a match to waste when there are alliances to be built, and kings in this realm without queens."
he dropped his hand, finishing his wine and setting the goblet aside. "but, if the opportunity arises - i've never been one to turn down good fortune."
✯
the mood shifted, becoming quieter, as nasir turned his attention to the matter that had been weighing on him. his fingers gripped the wine cup tighter, the mirth fading from his voice. "you’re right, of course. he’s safe, cared for, but there’s a part of me that worries—about what he’ll think when he’s older. what will he make of all this? of me?" nasir’s gaze met tion’s, and his voice dropped even lower.
"there’s so much i could have done; even if it ruined my name. i kept thinking of my sisters, my mother...and still, i can’t help but think he deserves more than what i gave him. the idea of having more children of my own someday, and pretending as though they do not have a brother...it doesn't sit right with me." he leaned back in his chair again, eyes distant. "but you speak the truth. there's no more to do." his gaze hardened a little, as if determined to put the thought behind him.
the mention of ayca mallister made his brow raise slightly, a slight laugh coming from him at the prospect of it. she was only a person he saw briefly in passing at old way events, where she was usually accompanied by her sister and other women. still, there was much they heard of ayca mallister and her argumentative nature: or at least, the point of her arguments. "well you dodged an arrow there." nasir's voice was uncharacteristically blunt, as it commonly was when he said the first thing that came to mind. he caught himself and pulled a slight face, letting out an exhale.
nasir manderly chuckled, the sound rich and deep, as his eyes twinkled with a mischievous glint. "i watched it all, brother. every moment of it. and you were most certainly struggling," he taunted, leaning back in his chair, fingers tracing the edge of his wine cup with absent precision. "as for rescuing you, well, i thought you’d manage just fine without my help." he shook his head as the conversation turned to his previous joke, his grin widening. "and send her my way? not likely," nasir said with a wink, shaking his head in mock horror.
"you think i’d survive that? no, no, i’m better off avoiding her traps altogether. let’s leave the valyrian interrogation to you, my friend. i have far less patience for the fire and fury."
as his mind lingered on the targaryen princess and her antics, nasir’s gaze wandered to the bustling hall beyond. "you're a picky man, that's why you're not wed." he could feel the weight of the questions swirling in the air, his mind beginning to drift to more pressing matters. "you know what i really have to ask you about?" he leaned forward a little, his voice lowering. "matilda tyrell. third in line for the reach throne, and with a dowry to make even the most steadfast lord second-guess their commitments." he raised an eyebrow, a playful edge to his tone.
"she’s already engaged to wylliam swann, but come now, we both know that can be dropped."

not gonna lie, every post right now going "in campaign 3, they seem so HAPPY. it feels so much more authentic than the beginning of campaign 2. they feel free and like they cracked the code of what kind of show they're running. they finally understand how to create something that's elegant and recaptured some of the campaign 1 magic" is obnoxious as fuck. why are there so many of them right now.
because campaign 2 is also full of joy and authenticity. and honestly, i wish people would just put on their big kid pants and admit that they simply didn't like campaign 2 and that these posts are acting like it's saying that's because campaign 2 is an inferior product due to, idk, claiming that this campaign has more joy and not because it simply was a different story with a different tone that doesn't appeal to them.
why have i seen so many posts acting like there wasn't joy and fun in campaign 2, especially in the early set. like there aren't nerves and awareness of the audience here.
like, it's obnoxious as hell. just admit you didn't like the specific tone and structure of story being told in c2 instead of creating this weirdass narrative about it.
#why have i seen like 5 versions of this post in four hours#like stop conflating 'the table is so happy they're at the same table again' with 'c3 is a more joyful story bc they're freer'#it's funny bc they're essentially (sometimes lit.) 'c2 was serious and grounded with purposefully intense PCs and that wasn't as good'#which is a hilariously bizarre thing to literally or implicitly say and a MASSIVE backhanded dig at campaign 3 lmaoooo#I really am going to finally block all the people who got on my nerves in the late game of C2 huh.#Just for the crime of being annoying.#CR spoilers#Critical Role things#CR
