Last year’s May Eve/Walpurgis Night/pálení čarodějnic altar cloth as it was worked. The cross in the center is composed of 4 tree of life/world tree motifs representing the May pole. The colors and flowers represent the life that bursts forth at the beginning of May. The design is composed of patterns adapted from a vintage Czechoslovakian book.

Hagging Out: April [🧹]
Thinking about taking part? Reply to this entry - or send me a DM - and I'll add you to the list of April Hags. 💀
and if you have a favour to request, upon walpurgis night just mention it. -- mephistopheles, 'faust'
WHO: To join this challenge you must 1.) identify as a hag (trans, non-binary, and dude Hags welcome!), and 2.) be 30 years or older. While not mandatory, all former participants have been some flavor of pagan or witch or Christian, so incorporating the challenge into your practice or devotional schedule isn't just tolerated, it's encouraged!
WHAT: This month we're going for a 'Choose Your Own Adventure' theme, with a focus on the rituals, workings, customs, festivities, and/or sabbat spectacles of Witches' Night [aka Walpurgisnacht & Hexennacht], Beltane, May Day, and International Workers' Day.
WHERE: In the convenience of your home! Unless, of course, you want to be a bit extra. Whatever you decide to do, and wherever you decide to do it, be sure to tag your posts with #Hagging Out so fellow crones can follow along. (Over the past few years we've essentially strong-armed everyone else out of the tag and claimed it as our middle-aged Hag fort, LMFAO.)
WHEN: April 30th-May 4th! Participating Hags are encouraged to complete their challenge and write their entry when it suits their schedule, then pick one of the five "open" days - April 30th, May 1st, May 2nd, May 3rd, or May 4th - to post it.
WHY: To consolidate our strengthening crone powers and exchange tips on the best way of covering stubborn greys. And because it's occasionally nice to be social in the comfort of your own home without actually having people over.
HOW: However the eff you want! Planning on getting totally witch-faced at sabbat, or using the evening's abundant vibes to provide some ooomph to a working or project? Tell us about it! Dusting off the broom and brushing through that second skin to get 'em squeaky for Brocken? Building a bonfire? Constructing a maypole or a May garland? Enjoying a special, seasonal meal? We want the deets, yo!
PLAYLIST: A Hagging Out sabbat social needs a sabbat social playlist! If you're participating in this month's challenge comment with a song you'd like to add to our Witches' Night and May Day themed playlist: https://youtube.com/Hagging Out Hexennacht.
...and remember: what happens at Brocken, stays at Brocken. 😈

some flying charms: Dance about in a frenzy chanting these faster and faster until you just can't anymore, and you fall down (try to land on something soft) and this will help you fly. If movement is difficult, chant first silently to yourself. Steadily get louder and faster.
1)"horse and hattock, horse and go, horse and pellatis, ho, ho.’
2) "Eko! Eko! Azarak! Eko! Eko! Zomelak! Zod-ru-koz e Zod-ru-koo Zod-ru-goz e Goo-ru-moo! Eko! Eko! Hoo…Hoo…Hoo"
or

If you know you are feuding with a competent Witch and you wish to protect yourself during the Witches Flight. Hang herbs like Cowslip, St.johns wort , Garlic bulbs, Mugwort etc.

🔥🌜 Celebrating Walpurgis Night 🌛🔥
Hello darlings 🥰
As the long, dark winter months come to an end, we welcome the coming of spring and the promise of renewal. One of the most magical nights of the year is Walpurgis Night, a celebration that occurs on the night of April 30th.
Tumblr media
Walpurgis Night, also known as Hexennacht or May Eve, is a pagan festival that dates back to ancient times. It was originally a night to celebrate the end of winter and the beginning of the planting season. Today, it is a time to embrace the return of light and warmth, and to honor the spirits of nature 🌷✨
To celebrate Walpurgis Night, you can light bonfires, dance around Maypoles, and create beautiful floral wreaths to wear in your hair. It's a night to let go of the old and welcome the new, and to connect with the earth and its cycles.
Some popular ways to celebrate Walpurgis Night include:
🔥 Lighting bonfires or candles to honor the return of the sun.
🌸 Creating floral wreaths and garlands to wear or hang in your home.
🕯️ Holding a ritual to honor the spirits of nature and ask for their blessings.
💃 Dancing around a Maypole to celebrate the fertility of the earth.
🌿 Planting seeds or starting a garden to welcome the spring.
Remember, the energy of Walpurgis Night is all about renewal, growth, and new beginnings. Embrace the energy of the season and allow yourself to let go of the old and welcome the new.
If you're celebrating Walpurgis Night this year, be sure to share with the Sappy Witch Coven by submitting your post to connect with other witches and pagans around the world 🥰

Dressing the Wishing Bush
An important Walpurgis custom of ours has long been the traditional Dressing of the May Bush. This year, though, things have gone a bit differently.
In the past, we would harvest a small branch of blooming Hawthorn on April 30, which we would set before the home and decorate with Clooties. We would ideally ornament the living Matron Whitethorn by our front gate, but we have been discouraged from drawing attention to her unnecessarily, lest we risk attracting the unwelcome. As such, we've used a small switch from the Matron tree each year.
This year, however, we were given leave to harvest a special thorn-broom from her central bole that we've admired for years. We will dry this specimen, following today's celebration, and reuse it every year. What's more, we have been guided in establishing a different form of the May Bush, and so was born the Wishing Bush.
We used keys to represent an array of wishes for the coming year—however small—which we consecrated and tied with colorful loops of charm-knotted cord. These keys were then hung from the Hawthorn and earnest entreaty was given to the Whitethorn Mother, that She might help bring these wishes to fruition. On the next day, the cords will be cut and burned in the smoldering remnants of the Hexennacht Fire—that the Hawhthorn-blessed wishes might be carried on the wind to the powers that be. The keys, in turn, will be cleansed in hallowed waters, for future use.
EDIT: Multiple powerful omens ended up making it clear that this harvested "thorn-broom" was not meant to be dried, but was instead meant to be rooted and transplanted—most potent amongst which was the segment beginning to put out new growth after 9 days of being in a warm greenhouse with no water or soil. Despite initial fear that we heeded these omens too late to save the segment of Hawthorn (which was doing very poorly everywhere but that single branch of new growth) we managed to rescue and rehabilitate it with weeks of vigilant care. I think it should be ready to re-pot by the coming Walpurgis.

It's Beltane here (Australia), but, more than that, it's the mid-point of Kambarang (The Season of Birth). And, although it's traditionally Samhain in the Northern Hemisphere, we also celebrate Halloween as a holiday despite it currently being the height of Spring. It's topsy-turvy down here.
This is a time to educate the young, to respect the elders, and to honour the departed. It is a time of first steps, of last breaths, and of journeys beyond and back again.

The Hexennacht that wasn't...and other May Day Adventures
An unfortunate spirit attachment issue has kept me from planning and carrying out the full extent of what I wanted to do for Hexennacht. It's been a very draining, stressful, and illness filled month.
So on Sunday I went to a local lake I've been developing a relationship with and attempted to complete my Todaustragen ceremony wherein winter/death is driven out and reborn as spring/summer/life. I've been planning this since February and decided this rite was more accessible to me in my current state than a wild night of witchy hedonism and spirit flight would be. Traditionally this rite is done around the spring equinox or Easter but it was still extremely winter™️ here at that time.
However on Hexennacht it was way too windy for me to actually burn the effigy, the wind snuffed out any attempt at a fire immediately. So I proceeded with the drowning portion of the rite and then let the spirits guide me on what to do next. I was guided to several significant hidden locations along the lakeshore that I'll be returning to for sure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The following day, May day, I heard about the destruction of a significant prairie remnant just a few hours from where I live. Thousands of years of untilled land and unique flora gone due to random pesticide spraying. I felt moved to explore a local prairie restoration effort just over the border in Iowa to pay my respects. What I meant to be a quick check in on the state of the regrowth there turned into a 3 hour long hike.
The patch of Elder is just starting to develop buds and the Red Dogwood is very present. I intended to obtain some Cottonwood buds or fluff but I think I was too early for the fluff and too late for the buds. The Blackberry bushes have leafed out and the Nettle is absolutely everywhere. Down in the valley, there was a significant presence of Woodland Phlox, a very potent indicator of the local spirits and an appropriate omen for May day.
Tumblr media
The hike was much longer than I planned and ended up being quite the ordeal physically and spiritually. I felt tested and teased, turning down paths that didn't lead where I expected them to or were much longer than I expected. With my walking stick in hand and the fierce wind ranging, I felt kinship with and watched by the Old Grey Wanderer. I saw parts of this land I've never witnessed before, despite visiting this location many times. I ended up walking along the very boundaries of the reserve and hiking up the highest point of elevation there.
Eventually I came across a grove of Juniper trees to whom I confessed being rather lost and exhausted, Juniper being a spirit much associated with Right Relations and gift giving, amongst many other things. Shortly afterwards I ended up back at my car grateful to be heading home and quite exhausted but appreciative of this land and this season.

Hagging Out April/May Hexennacht/May Day/Beltane 2023
@graveyarddirt
So I actually managed to celebrate both Hexennacht AND May Day/Beltane this year! Go me!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I spent the 29th 30th and 1st completely Witch faced high, lol
I got a shit load done, I did some cleaning, smacking out a lot of dead/shitty energy,
Combining that with a road opening and shit ton of blessing work,
I also thoroughly gave Offerings, April was such a fuck awful month I wanted to forcibly shove it out the door and lock the door behind it, I was so tired I was actually dreading Hexennacht this year cause I hadn't had time or energy to really plan anything or set things up well,
But somehow *cough* cannabis *cough* I became a fucking whirlwind and got everything done, and had a fucking blast,
I have to make do with a candle on my bedroom floor as a fire, but frankly it works just as well as when I was able to do outdoor rituals when we first moved here,
This was my second year with my Mighty Steed and Snakey Wand,
Though I've had that Steed since I was a little girl, you ever have something from before you started a magic path and one day go 'oh hey', that was me with that horse head cane,
See as a kiddling I fucking love collecting two things, rocks and sticks, I had a whole area in my basement 'playroom' (it was half done fucking dungeon, cause my father never finished shit, and it creeped me the holy hell out, but it was where I kept my sticks,) I had em all nicely sorted,
Anyway this gave me an appreciation for walking sticks and canes, my ma had her uncle's old cane I was always trying to play with, but dude was a big fucker, and cane was good deal bigger then me and ma knew I'd never grow into it like I'd been hoping, she found this horse head cane the head snapped and therefore adorable for her, she grabbed it up and brought it home to me, with plans to fix it up I was delighted I spent hours sitting in her closet rubbing my little hands over it,
Ma never was able to fix it up, but surprisingly through all the moves, and that time we asked my sister if she could store some of our stuff and she agreed and then went through it all and tossed and sold most of it,
Horse somehow made it, and I'd been keeping it in my closet,
Also funny enough I grew into it almost perfectly,
I realized a couple years ago while trying to come up with a Sabbat Steed that uh hello I had a perfect one sitting patiently waiting for me to get my shit together, lol,
So I before even fixing the head, started working it, cleaned it up nice, put the pieces near me while sleeping on Sabbat nights, bring it into circle, ect. Last year I finally put the dear together enchanted and Named horse, and off to the Sabbat we went, with my new snake wand tagging along,
And so we flew again this year!
May 1st is also my great aunt who raised my ma's birthday, I never got to meet her but I owe her my existence so I went to put a Coke can (her fav) out for her when I got a shock of a 'welo don't put the whole damn can down' so instead I shared a can with my great aunt for her birthday,
After that I did some work with The Spirit Of The Land, to bridge a better connection between us, that went extremely well
