The seven dwarfs controversy is so funny actually because it clearly comes from people who:

1. don’t care about the original and are only here to complain

2. only read the headlines and started making assumptions (“it’s woke!!!”)

3. are racist sorry not sorry :/

First of all, the seven dwarfs from the Disney movie were never meant to be people with dwarfism, but rather fantasy dwarfs/dwarves, much like the lotr ones. So yeah, it’s not a big deal if it turns out they’re not all played by dwarf actors, they’re not “taking opportunities away” because it was never said it was a role specifically made for dwarf actors (were the dwarves in lotr and rop played by dwarf actors?).

Then you got people complaining for their heights as shown in the leaked pictures, which leads me to point 2. If people brought themselves to read the full articles before spreading hate on every social media because of a misleading headline, they would know that the actors in the pictures are only stunts and do NOT reflect the dwarfs’ final look in the film, which according to Disney will be heavily edited in CGI to resemble hobbits or trolls from Frozen. So my guess is, they’re going for a high fantasy route with them, which is not a bad thing at all since they were already fantasy in the original movie: think of the fairies and creatures from Maleficent. Maybe they will skip the “dwarf” word to avoid controversy, that sucks in my opinion since it was never meant to stereotype people with dwarfism, but I still really wanna see their final look before judging.

My main concern at this point is about their names, I really hope they keep all of them the same.

I am getting a maximum of five and a half hours’ sleep tonight. It’s nearly half eleven and I have to wake up at five. My intention was to go to bed around nine, and then time completely vanished on me.

my hometown is completely gone from what pictures i can find of it, i have not heard from my family (including aunts, uncles, parents, one sibling, and a grandparent), and the infrastructure in the mountain communities is wiped out. i cannot stress how catastrophic this is, or how difficult it will be for these communities to build back. i am angry, and scared, and heartbroken by everything that's happened.

and our government is spending it's money to fund a genocide.

free palestine, and don't be complicit. realize that this is not something happening that doesn't affect you--although it shouldn't take this to care about the deaths of thousands of people anyway.

One of my biggest nitpicks in fiction concerns the feeding of babies. Mothers dying during/shortly after childbirth or the baby being separated form the mother shortly after birth is pretty common in fiction. It is/was also common enough in real life, which is why I think a lot of writers/readers don't think too hard about this. however. Historically, the only reason the vast majority of babies survived being separated from their mother was because there was at least one other woman around to breastfeed them. Before modern formula, yes, people did use other substitutes, but they were rarely, if ever, nutritionally sufficient.

Newborns can't eat adult food. They can't really survive on animal milk. If your story takes place in a world before/without formula, a baby separated from its mother is going to either be nursed by someone else, or starve.

It doesn't have to be a huge plot point, but idk at least don't explicitly describe the situation as excluding the possibility of a wetnurse. "The father or the great grandmother or the neighbor man or the older sibling took and raised the baby completely alone in a cave for a year." Nope. That baby is dead I'm sorry. "The baby was kidnapped shortly after birth by a wizard and hidden away in a secret tower" um quick question was the wizard lactating? "The mother refused to see or touch her child after birth so the baby was left to the care of the ailing grandfather" the grandfather who made the necessary arrangements with women in the neighborhood, right? right? OR THAT GREAT OFFENDER "A newborn baby was left on the doorstep and they brought it in and took care of it no issues" What Are You Going to Feed That Baby. Hello?

Like. It's not impossible, but arrangements are going to have to be made. There are some logistics.
