Where does your power lie?
The Heart
your power is steady and driving. your power is fickle, it skips and it races and it bleeds and it burns. your strength is in how much you care, about everything. your strength is cold and it is stone and it is soft and it is on your sleeve. and you love. my god, do you love.

I can go where life leads me
this another part of my made of love verse ft yen being an idiot and a bit insecure and these two taking the next big step.
this was written for a @geraskeferbingo prompt ‘celebratory kiss’!
_____
“What about this one?” Yennefer asks, turning the laptop around to show Jaskier.
He looks up from where he is sat across from her, possibly writing his reports but also just as likely to be playing some sort of stupid game. “Oooh I like that one. Nice garden.”
“Yeah that’s what I thought. And there’s a study that we could turn into a music room,” she says, clicking her way through the photos. Jaskier doesn’t react to that, so she glances up at him to see him with a confused frown fixed on his face.
“What?” she asks.
“Wouldn’t you rather keep it it as a study though?”
“I’ve got an office at the shop which will be fine,” she explains, but he still looks confused.
“So why put a music room in your house? Surely it would be better used for Ciri.”
“Because it isn’t going to be just my house. And besides Ciri can have the big bedroom so she has room for all her stuff.”
Jaskiers mouth drops open and he lets out a noise that she cannot quite figure out.
“What’s wrong with you?”
His mouth opens and closes silently before he says, “You want me to move in? With you? Like together?”
“Yes, obviously,” she answers, rolling her eyes. “Now please stop gaping like a fish and tell me what you think of this one.”
“Obviously? No, not obviously! You can’t just spring that on me out of nowhere!”
“I asked you last week!”
“No you did not! I’m certain I would have remembered that,”
“I did! When we were having pizza last week. When Ciri was at that sleepover.”
“No you didn’t! We talked about that wedding order you have to fill, and then what I’m going to play at that gig, and then we talked about annoying Sofia’s mum was being and then we watched the film and talked about how much we hated it! Nowhere at any point in the evening did you talk about moving in together!”
She thinks back to that evening, and everything they discussed. She had definitely planned to ask him that evening. She wasn’t going to make a bid deal out of it, knowing that Jaskier was bound to make more than enough of a fuss for both of them.
But now she remembers the doubt that had crept in, the fear that maybe she was moving too fast, that for all his smiles and declarations, that actually he doesn’t feel the same and that she has been fooled, that she has been swept up in his dramatics as so many have been before because for once she had someone who saw her and hadn’t turned and run. She remembers the voice in her head, the one filled with insecurity that hasn’t reared its head in so long, telling her that asking him to move in could, in fact, be a terrible mistake.
And so she hadn’t asked.
Later, she had thought, I’ll ask him later.
Except she never had, had pushed it from her mind, but somehow managed to convince herself that he knew what she was trying to ask, had done what he had done so many times before and looked inside her mind and seen what she had meant to say.
Fuck.
“Fuck, I didn’t.”
“Told you!”
A silence descends over them, one that is tinged with an awkwardness and unease between them that hasn’t been there since they first met. One of the things she liked about Jaskier is that for all he talks, he also listens and can read between the lines she draws, hearing her meaning behind what she says.
She is aware that she is the one that should say something, that she is the one that has caused this – this strange sort of tension between them, which could be easily broken if she only asked now. It would be simple, just one question and they could leave this strange quiet behind them.
But still there is that voice inside her, the one whispering what if, what if, what if-
She prides herself on her bravery, her courage, doing whatever she needs to do to get what she wants, but that courage seems to flee whenever it comes to relationships. It is as though she is a young girl again, hiding away, because hiding was easier than rejection. There is nothing worse, nothing more terrifying than holding herself open, not hiding anything, showing every scar and crack, holding her heart out in trembling hands, offering herself up saying here, here I am, this is me and for them to turn back say no, no, not you.
There have been very few people that have seen her like that, very few people that she has let close enough to try. But Jaskier has been one of them, and she could not bear it if he turned away now, after carving out a space for himself in her life, and that voice inside is just telling her to run, leave now before she can ruin it.
But she cannot listen to that voice anymore.
No, she tells it, I will not run.
Because she knows that Jaskier is just as scared as she is. Unlike her, his fear doesn’t stop him from offering up his heart again and again and again, almost certain that it will be dashed away without a thought, but she knows he lives in dread of the moment that someone will finally give up on him, deem him too much and leave him alone once again.
But he has been brave with her, he has often taken the first step, waited for her to meet him halfway, still that nervous man handing over a bouquet of flowers waiting for her to say yes.
Well now it is her turn to be brave.
She takes a deep breath and asks, “Will you move in with me?”
She expects him to make some sort of joke, to tease her, but he must see the vulnerability in her eyes because for a moment he says nothing. He gets up and comes to kneel in front of her, his hand reaches up to cup her face and he whispers against her lips “I would love nothing more.”
And then he is kissing her, and she winds her fingers into his hair, because she loves him. She loves him, this stupid, ridiculous, annoying idiot of a man, this man who has seen her at her meanest, heard her cutting words and hadn’t run away, had fought back with scathing words of his own. This man who had seen her in her element, but had understood the struggle it had taken for her to get there. The man who had seen her beauty, but looked deeper and seen the pieces of her that she had tried to hide and brought them out to admire. The man who had seen her when she was scared, as she tried to find her feet with parenthood, and hadn’t tried to tell her what to do, but had just stood by her and supported her as she tried to figure it out.
They break apart and she pulls him up and into her lap.
“I can’t believe you want to live with me,” he says, leaning his forehead against her temple, winding his arms around her shoulders.
“Honestly, neither can I,” she replies “Is it too late to take it back?”
He pinches her side and she lets out a sharp laugh, swatting at his hand.
“Oh, this is going to be so much fun! I’ve already got so many ideas. Hypothetically, how would you feel about a lime green kitchen? Because—”
“Oh good lord, what have I done.”
“Hush, darling. You just need to accept that I have superior knowledge about these things due to my incredible taste.”
She just raises an eyebrow and looks pointedly at his horrible patterned shirt with equally garish trousers.
“Just because you can’t appreciate it, doesn’t mean its not fashionable, dear,” he says and then twists and reaches for the laptop that is still sitting on the table. “And this place won’t do.”
“It was fine ten minutes ago,” she points out.
“Yes but that before I was also going to be living there.”
But it would have been okay for me?”
Before he can panic too much, she rolls her eyes and plants a kiss on his cheek.
They just sit quietly for a few moments, him perched on her lap with her arms held loosely around his waist, but it isn’t a tense quiet like before, just comfortable. They enjoy it and then he breaks it by turning to her and saying “Thank you for asking me.”
She just tucks her chin on his shoulder and squeezes him tightly. They both know that this is the biggest commitment either of them has made in a long time, and that although it is terrifying, it is less scary knowing that they are doing it together, and she is content to just enjoy this moment, of them taking the plunge together.

For the Lady’s Favour
A Miraculous Ladybug Fanfiction
By Mintaka14
Chapter Two – Complicated Plans
“Delivery order,” Luka’s boss said laconically, and pushed a takeaway cup and a slip of paper across the counter towards Luka.
Delivery orders weren’t uncommon, but the address on the slip was, and Luka’s eyebrow climbed as he read it. His boss just shrugged.
“The customer paid extra for this one, so you’d better get going.”
At least it was a nice day to be making a delivery to the Trocadéro, and Luka headed out into the streets towards the gardens.
There were plenty of people clustered around the first bench from the northern entrance of the park, and the second, but there was only one at the third bench. He could see pigtails, and a girl bent over the sketchbook in her lap. As he got closer, he caught a glimpse of an assortment of clothing, notes and scribbles and odd sketches around the edges.
“Delivery for the lady at the third bench?” he called out, and his attention was caught by the figure she seemed to be working on. Was that… Jagged Stone? This girl had good taste in music, clearly, and the coat she’d sketched on him looked amazing.
“Hey, that’s really –“ The girl looked up, and Luka completely lost his train of thought as he found himself staring into endlessly blue eyes. Holy shit.
“Is that my coffee?” she asked with a tentative smile, and Luka jerked back to attention. He looked down at the chocolate and fluff with extra everything and all the froufrou his boss had been able to jam into one cup.
“Not exactly.”
The girl’s eyes fell on the cup in his hands, and she let out a soft breath.
“I guess he has a sweet tooth,” she said, and he handed her the cup, trying not to react to the brush of her fingers.
“You didn’t see who placed the order?” she asked a little wistfully. “It- it wasn’t you, was it?”
“Me?” Luka was still reeling under the impact of those blue, blue eyes. “Right now, I wish it had been.”
He nodded at the cup of chocolate and marshmallow fluff in her hands. “Although I’m more of a coffee guy.”
She lit up in a smile, and any semblance of rational thought that Luka had left was gone. Damn, she was just too gorgeous.
“Me too, to be honest. I wouldn’t get half the things I need to do done without a regular caffeine hit. Are you a night owl too?”
“Too often, yeah. It kind of comes with the territory.”
She raised an eyebrow at that, and he found himself talking more.
“I play in a couple of bands, and I’d keep falling asleep over my guitar in the middle of a gig without coffee to keep me going.”
“You’re a musician?”
He grinned and ducked his head in acknowledgement. “What about you? What keeps you up at night?”
It was only after he’d said it that he realised how that could have sounded, but the girl didn’t seem to notice.
“Design and sewing.” She let out a faint huff. “The middle of the night always seems to be about the only time I can focus on my projects without something interrupting me, so… coffee.” She pulled a face at the mountain of fluffy chocolate in her hand, and then seemed to realise that they were still standing in the middle of the park. She backed up a reluctant step. “I should – I should stop holding you up. You probably need to get back to work, and here I’m – Sorry. Thanks for bringing me the hot chocolate.”
“You can hold me up any time,” he sighed, but only when she was out of hearing. He turned and headed back towards the coffee shop, but he came to an abrupt stop at the sound of running footsteps and the touch of a hand on his arm.
“Sorry, sorry!” the girl gasped. She held out a raspberry red macaron wrapped in cellophane and ribbon. It was a work of art. “I nearly forgot. Could you give this to the person who ordered the hot chocolate for me?”
“It looks like a ladybug,” he said stupidly, and she blushed again. “No, it’s cute. Lucky.”
“I could use a bit of luck,” she muttered, then she met his eyes and her smile grew brighter. “It was really nice to meet you, Luka. Thanks for my sugar rush.”
Luka’s malfunctioning brain caught on that. “You know my name?”
And the girl’s face flamed into embarrassment. “I don’t… you… the thing…” She gave up and nodded at his chest, and the name tag that was still there.
Ah. Of course.
“I’m Ma-ma-marinette,” she offered, tripping over her own name.
“Pretty name. It suits you.” Judging from the way her cheeks burned even brighter, his tone had been a little more heartfelt than he’d intended, and, reluctantly, he backed up a step. “Guess I’d better get back before my boss notices I’m missing and decides to fire me.”
The smile she gave him almost knocked him on his ass, and he turned away before he could make even more of an idiot of himself. There was something niggling at the back of his mind, though.
Luka stopped and turned back.
“Marinette,” he said. “Wait, do you know Juleka Couffaine?”
“We were in the same class for a few years,” Marinette admitted. “We hang out sometimes.”
“You’re Marinette! I heard all about you from Jules after that thing with the school photo.” He could have kissed her for what she’d done for his baby sister’s self-confidence, and if half the things he’d heard from Juleka were true, this girl was every bit as incredible as he’d just been imagining. He realised he was beaming at her like a fool, and tried to dial it back a bit.
“Nothing too bad, I hope,” she said, sounding a little alarmed, and he felt his smile soften.
“Nothing bad at all.”
When he finally got back to the coffee shop, Luka had barely had time to slide behind the counter and sling an apron around his waist again before the door swung open with an enthusiastic peal of the bell. He looked up to find Adrien Agreste heading towards the counter with an expression of barely concealed nervous anticipation on his famous features.
Luka gave him an easy smile, but before he could ask what the model wanted, Adrien had blurted out, “Did she like it? Did… were you the one who delivered the hot chocolate for me? Was she there?”
So Marinette’s mystery hot chocolate was Paris’ beloved poster boy.
Luka silently handed him the macaron that Marinette had asked him to deliver, and watched the model’s face light up like Christmas had come early.
~~~~~
Marinette was not surprised when Alya burst into her bedroom without so much as a greeting.
“So?” Alya said impatiently. “How did it go?”
“He sent me hot chocolate. I think I’m still in sugar shock, Alya, but the boy who delivered it was so funny and sweet about it –“
“Never mind the delivery guy,” Alya cut her off. “Your mystery guy came through! You had your first date with him… feel free to tell me I’m a genius any time now. This is a good start. The whole idea is for you to get to know each other before you meet, so you need to write to him and get him to do something to show he’s serious here.”
“Like what?”
Alya shrugged. “You’re the one with the plans. You just have to come up with something you can get him to do that doesn’t involve you meeting face to face, something he can do to win your favour.”
“Yes, but it’s not like I can ask him to fight a duel for my honour or something…” Marinette trailed off. “Fight,” she repeated thoughtfully.
“I know that look,” Alya nudged her shoulder. “That’s a plan happening, isn’t it?”
Marinette grabbed a sheet of notepaper from her desk, and her favourite pen.
“Ultimate Mecha Strike,” she announced.
“What?”
“An online challenge. It’s perfect. We don’t have to meet in person, but we can play each other online and find out a bit more about each other.”
Alya was looking as if she wasn’t sure if it was a bad idea or brilliant.
“What if he doesn’t play UMS?”
“Then I can teach him.”
“And what if he doesn’t like getting whomped?” Alya asked sceptically. She was very familiar with Marinette’s playing style, and Marinette made a face, still concentrating on the note she was writing.
“Then it’s better to find out now that he’s a sore loser, before I get too attached.”
Marinette read over the note, and folded it, presenting it to Alya with a flourish. Alya grinned, and tucked it into her bag.
“Right,” she said, getting to her feet. “Let’s see if he’ll fight for your hand. I’ll let you know how it goes.”
Once Alya had clattered down the steps again, Marinette buried her face in her pillow and screamed quietly. This was a bad, bad idea.
~~~~~
Luka was wiping down the counter when the bell chimed over the door, and he paused as Alya came in. It wasn’t unusual to see her in the café, but it was unusual to see her there without Nino or their friends. He watched curiously as she sidled almost furtively towards the noticeboard and tacked something up between the band posters and lost and found notices.
“What are you up to?” Luka asked, and Alya leaped, her hand going to her chest as she spun around.
“Jeez! You startled me.”
Luka tipped his head at the envelope she’d just pinned up. “I saw you the other day, when you put that letter on the board, and now this one. What’s that all about?”
“Aren’t we allowed to use the public noticeboard?” Alya asked, her hands going to her hips and a defensive note in her voice.
“And that hot chocolate delivery the other day?”
Alya huffed in response, but Luka just kept watching her with a look of mild interest, until she said, “It’s just like this game. Sort of. Like a blind date, without actually knowing who you’re dating.”
Luka’s eyebrow climbed.
“Look, we have these friends who’d be perfect for each other, but she can’t talk to him, and he’s completely clueless, so we’re trying to set them up.”
“Right,” Luka said slowly. “Does Marinette know about this?”
“Well, she doesn’t know who it is,” Alya muttered. “But she’s had this huge crush on Adrien for ages. We’re just getting them to set each other challenges, doing stuff like that coffee delivery, or… I don’t know, looking for a painting at the Louvre, something like that. Like dates, where they don’t actually meet.” Alya gave a sudden grin. “It’s going to be so hilarious when they finally work out who they’re writing to.”
“Is this some kind of practical joke?” he asked flatly, his heart sinking a little for Marinette’s sake, but Alya’s angry reaction was somewhat reassuring.
“Like I’d do that to my girl!” she said indignantly. “This is just… a creative way to help her get past some stuff. You met Marinette, so you know how she trips all over herself and stutters?”
She’d certainly stumbled over their names when she’d gotten flustered, but Marinette had been perfectly coherent through most of their conversation. Alya must have taken Luka’s expression as agreement, though, because she barrelled on.
“Well, imagine that, but like a million times worse. Girl just cannot string a sentence together around a guy she likes. And Adrien, well, he’s great with knowing what to say to his fans, and being polite to other models and his father’s business contacts, but not so good with,” Alya gestured vaguely, “normal stuff. He’s never really noticed Marinette like that, because he’s not real good with subtle, but he buys into that whole romantic movie, big gesture, winning the lady thing.”
“And that’s where this comes in?” Luka asked drily, nodding at the letter pinned to the board.
“Exactly!” Alya smacked her hands on the counter. “It’s like something out of one of those old movies. We get Adrien’s attention with the whole romantic mystery thing, and in the meantime, they can get to know each other. Marinette can talk to Adrien, because she doesn’t have to actually talk to him and she doesn’t know it’s him anyway, and Adrien can get to see how amazing my girl really is.”
“This seems like a very complicated way of doing things,” he pointed out as neutrally as possible, but Alya waved away the observation with a flip of her hand.
“You don’t know Marinette. Everything tends to be complicated with her.”
“If Marinette can’t actually talk to him in person, maybe he’s not the right one for her.”
“Oh, please! She’s been in love with him forever. Love makes you do stupid things, and she just needs a bit of a push in the right direction. I know Marinette.” Alya narrowed her eyes at him. “And what’s it got to do with you anyway?”
Luka just shook his head, not trusting himself to respond. He was honest enough with himself to admit that the pang of disappointment he’d felt when he found out that Marinette was interested in someone else might have had something to do with his judgement here, but even so, this had all the makings of a trainwreck of epic proportions. He didn’t, however, need Alya’s measuring gaze to know that it was none of his business, not if Marinette wanted this.
He shrugged, and turned away to straighten the coffee cups.
“It’s nothing to do with me,” he told her, and the note stayed pinned to the board until Adrien came in again some time later to collect it. And if Luka’s heart sank a little at the eager expression on Adrien’s face, and the thought that maybe this ridiculous plan might actually work, then he kept that to himself.

Finding Destiny
Square Filled: Plus Size for @spnkinkbingo & Late Presentation for @spnabobingo
Characters: alpha!Sam x omega!Reader; Madame Tremaine (OFC)
Rating: Explicit
Summary: Y/N always felt like an Omega. Life told her otherwise, until tonight.
Word Count: 3027
Created for @spnkinkbingo & @spnabobingo
You smelled like a garden had exploded on you, a garden with some miscellaneous spices and nature smells. Truth was, you smelled like a mess, but you’d been desperate. Living as a Beta was like being invisible.
You were convinced it didn’t help that your body wasn’t fashion model thin, or thin at all for that matter, instead having generous soft curves in your breasts, hips, and thighs. You had spent the last ten years watching Alphas and Omegas pair up, claim each other, shower each other with their love, devotion, and commitment. It had left you feeling more and more lonely, and food was your coping mechanism. The result of that was more pounds added to a body you already thought was too large.
Meanwhile, with each passing year, you felt more and more like life was passing you by. You, too, wanted to be claimed. There were no Alpha tendencies in your makeup; you were sure you were an Omega. You longed to be cherished, protected, filled with pups. Your untapped maternal instincts were strong, and you wanted to have a mate, be a mate. The Beta lifestyle wasn’t yours, so how had you been born into it?
Initially, when your heat didn’t come. You were confused, followed by disappointed, then discouraged, and finally resigned. Periodically, throughout all these reactions, you were devastated. The devastation overtook you when you least expected it, and then mercifully would leave again so you could function and pretend to be a happy Beta. Had it stayed with you constantly, no doubt you would have fallen into a deep depression.
It was that unwanted and sometimes paralyzing sense of hopelessness which always returned due to your Beta status that had sent you to the establishment owned by Madame Tremaine. It was rumored that she could bring on a reluctant onset of the first heat. That’s what you were once again trying to convince yourself this was, abandoning your previous period of accepting your fate. That’s all it was, a delay. Your body just needed some encouragement, a little push to get your hormones in motion. That first heat was going to happen; it was just slow.
So, it was in that frame of mind that you entered her herb shop at the end of a narrow street in an unfashionable part of the city. Wooden shelves lined the walls, filled with glass jars of various sizes that contained materials of every description. Dried flowers hung from low hanging rafters, and a display case that was filled with what appeared to be rocks and gemstones ran the length of one wall.
The bell over the door had tinkled when you entered the shop, summoning Madame Tremaine from the rear room of the shop. She pushed aside a beaded curtain that hung in the doorway leading to the back. She sized you up, her eyes traveling over you from head to toe. You were wearing a full skirt and a peasant style blouse. It was a cute outfit, but you still felt inadequate and self conscious about your size. For a moment, you felt a little pathetic because you’d come here seeking her help at changing what nature, God, the universe, or whatever had decided should be your lot in life.
She was, of course, sleek and dressed all in form fitting black pants and a black shirt that emphasized her long, graceful arms and fingers. She had adorned those arms and fingers with turquoise rings and silver bangles, while large silver hoops hung from her ears. You were thinking of turning around and walking right back out when she said, “What brings you to see me tonight?”
You were determined not to stutter in spite of your nervousness. You could at least pretend to have a fraction of the confidence this woman so clearly possessed. “I’ve heard you can help Omegas with the onset of their first heat.”
She looked at you again. “How old are you?” You hesitated, not wanting to answer her question. You definitely should have left. This was so embarrassing. She lifted her chin and gave a wave of her hand, causing her bracelets to jingle. “Never mind. I’m sure I have what you need. It’s just a matter of finding the right combination of smells that compose your scent. Your body will then react with them and produce the scent on its own, triggering your first heat.”
For the next two hours, she had experimented on you with her herbs, flowers, and ground spices. She began with the flowers, explaining to you, “Very often an Omega’s scent includes a floral note. We only need to find the right one, then move on to the other elements.” It wasn’t tuberose, jasmine, violet, magnolia, or plumeria. She tried at least seven others before giving up on the flowers.
She moved to a particular row of jars with purpose. “Perhaps we should try something sweet instead.” The next round of fragrances she applied to your skin consisted of honey, vanilla, chocolate, coconut, sugar, and caramel. She was beginning to look a little perplexed, making you feel like a failure all over again. Not only were you unable to find a mate, now this wasn’t working either; but you needed it too. You felt like this was your last chance.
“How do you know it isn’t working, Madame?” You had absentmindedly grabbed your skirt and started to twist the fabric.
“Because I’m an Alpha; I could smell it if you were producing your own scent.” Of course she was an Alpha, all the confidence. Her tone had been a little sharper than she had intended. You were, after all, a paying customer. She shouldn’t let her frustration show. Madame softened her voice and tried a different approach. Perhaps you are a more rare type of Omega without the usual sweet or flowery smell. Let’s give something else a try.”
Next she went for a smaller set of jars that contained spices and pulled some tiny stone chips that were near a larger blue stone from the display case. First, she used a mortar and pestle to grind the stone chips then added some rosemary to the bowl, grinding it up as well, and finally sprinkling in some almond oil to bind it together. Your curiosity got the better of you and made you brave enough to ask, “Why did you add stones? They don’t smell.”
“Ah, but they do; it is just very subtle,” she answered, “and sometimes just the catalyst that is needed to activate the chemical process that will result in you producing your own scent.” She applied this mixture to the inside of your wrist. Still, the result was nothing. After that, she went through the motions of trying a few more things, but you knew with each passing minute this had been a huge waste of your hard earned money.
You left her store and practically slinked to your car, wanting nothing more than to get home to your favorite robe and a glass of red wine. When you closed the door with a heavy thud, your eyes landed on the gas gauge. Dammit. It was almost on empty. You wouldn’t make it home without stopping for gas. Perfect. There would be one more humiliation before this night was through. Gas stations in this part of town didn’t tend to carry out transactions through the pay at the pump method.
Perhaps your tendency to be invisible would play in your favor this time you thought as you pushed on the metal bar to open the glass door leading into the gas station. Your last shred of hope at maintaining your dignity had been destroyed when you’d pulled up to the pump and found a sign attached to it just as you’d expected. Pay Before You Pump. Now you had to go into this store smelling like a cheap whorehouse.
You made your way to the counter as quickly as you could, hoping to just put down your money, dash back outside again, get your gas, and go. You mumbled $30 on pump 3 and reached for your purse. That’s when you heard it, a voice that was just the right amount of deep and smoother than the honey back at Madame Tremaine’s shop. “Where are your apples?”
The guy behind the counter looked up reluctantly from his handheld video game. “We don’t have any. Sold the last of them this morning.” He turned his attention back to his game, and you turned to see who had spoken. What kind of face went with that voice?
The answer was the kind of face you saw on magazine covers and movie screens. The man with the sexy voice tried with the clerk again. “But I smell…” Then the gorgeous hazel eyes in that handsome face caught yours, and he tilted his head causing his golden brown hair to fall over his forehead. “It’s you.” His eyes narrowed a little.
Then something happened that had never occurred in your life. You were overcome by the smells of mahogany, champagne, and leather. The smell washed through you, entering every cell in your body, causing slick to pool in your panties, and your knees to go weak. You were beginning to sink to the floor.
The kid behind the counter finally put down his video game. “Lady, are you okay?” He was a Beta. He couldn’t smell any of what was happening two feet from him.
The mysterious Alpha caught you. He held you up while he put two twenties down on the counter. “For her gas.” He helped you out to your car, got you seated inside, then filled your tank. He walked back to you when he was done and leaned down to put his hand on your shoulder. The smell was overwhelming now. It was heady, more than if you’d drunk the champagne instead of just smelling it.
The Alpha kneeled in front of you. That magnificent voice had softened when he spoke to you. “I don’t think you should drive. I’m going to call my brother to come get my car, and then I’ll drive you home.”
Your head was feeling too light to argue, and there was a twinge of feeling bordering on pain starting between your legs. You nodded. “Okay.” Just like that. You trusted him, trusted him completely. It felt right what he was doing, taking care of you.
You closed your eyes and leaned your head back against the headrest. His voice sounded farther away, and you caught snippets of his conversation as you attempted to navigate all the emotional and physical feelings of your first heat. “Dean, i need you to come get the car.” Dean must be his brother. You missed the next part and then, “I’ll explain it all later. Just trust me. It’s never been more important.”
He returned to you and used that same soft tone he’d had with you before. “C’mon, let’s get you home. He lifted you like you weighed nothing more than a feather and carried you around to the passenger’s side of the car. He settled you in the seat and walked back around to take his place behind the wheel. Then, he turned to you. “I’m Sam.” His eyes focused on yours again. “And you’re my Omega.”
You gave him directions to your house, and when you got there he carried you inside, across the threshold just like you were a bride. “Where’s your bedroom?” It didn’t seem at all strange to have this man you’d just met in your house, or to be giving him directions to your bedroom. You wanted him there. The idea of him leaving scared you a little bit.
Sam put you down on your bed, and that fear bubbled up in your heart. You reached for him. “Don’t leave.”
He took your hand. “I wasn’t going to leave. Just go outside the room so you can change for bed. Your smell is so strong. All I can smell is you. It’s going to bring on my rut. So, I should probably put some distance between us. But I’m going to stay. Make sure you’re okay.”
You squeezed his hand. “I’m not. I’m not okay. I need you. This is so…” A huge gush of slick ran down your thighs. You cried out. “Sam, please. I don’t know what’s happening.”
A look of concern shadowed his gray green hazel eyes. “Your heats haven’t been like this before?”
You had a nearly vise like grip on his hand now; it was starting to hurt, and you grabbed his forearm with your other hand. “I’ve never had a heat before. This is the first one.”
It took a couple of seconds for Sam to comprehend what you’d just said. Then a fierce, protective gentleness filled his eyes; he didn’t let go of your hand until he was on the bed with you, then he took you in his arms. “I’ve got you, my Omega. It’s gonna be okay. I’m here. I won’t leave you.”
“It hurts, Sam. Why does it hurt?” This wasn’t what you had imagined it would be like to be an Omega. They’re had been no one in your life to explain it to you, and you were sure the books you’d read must be exaggerating.
Sam stroked your hair, trying to soothe you. “It hurts because you need an Alpha. Your body wants to be knotted. You need an Alpha’s knot.”
You held onto him tightly. “Will that make it stop?”
Sam whispered, “Yeah, that will make it stop.” He kept running his fingers through your hair, and then he growled. His hand stilled; his body was shaking with the effort to control himself.
His growling and shaking surprised you, and you jumped. “Sam, what is it? What’s wrong?”
He doubled his efforts to steady himself and stopped his shaking. “My body needs you too.” His voice was much more gruff than it had been before.
You raised your hand to sink your fingers into his hair, just as his were buried in yours. “Make it stop, Sam. Make it stop for both of us.”
While he was taking off your clothes, it didn’t occur to you once to feel self conscious about your lack of a flat stomach, the fullness of your thighs, or any of the other parts of your body you considered to be an imperfection. He kissed each and every one of them, while telling you how perfect you were. Your Alpha made you feel beautiful.
The touch of his hands was so gentle, even while you could feel the heat radiating off his skin. When his lips first touched yours, it was like when the match meet the candle wick, and the flame sparks to life. Sam kissed you for a long time, causing you to produce more slick, getting you ready for him.
When at last he broke the kiss, you looked into those eyes with the ability to change color; you saw into him, found that deep place where no one but his Omega would ever be allowed to go. “Were we meant to be together, Sam?”
He brushed his knuckles across your cheek. “Yeah, that’s how it works.” His eyes held yours, “I’ve been waiting for you so long.” The smell of leather was stronger now. It signaled the depth of the lust he was feeling, mixed with the more tender emotions.
You put your hand over his where it was still resting against your face. “It’s okay, Sam. I’m ready. Take me. Make me yours.”
Sam put his hands on the inside of your thighs and opened your legs. His eyes never left yours as he entered you slowly. The stretch pushed you to the limits of what you could take, and you knew it was nothing compared to what was to come when he gave you his knot.
He moved inside you with a gentle rhythm that heightened your passion and your need for him. When you started to roll your hips in time with the movements he was making, Sam reached between your bodies and started to rub your clit. He gave you exactly what you needed, and an intense orgasm came crashing through you.
While your body was still in the spasms of its release, Sam’s knot began to swell. “Yes, Alpha, yes. Please.”
Sam took you in his arms and rolled you to your side to face him while his knot continued to swell. He covered your face with soft kisses. “Are you okay?”
You clung to him, still afraid you might somehow lose him even though his body was firmly attached to yours. “Yes. This is what I’ve always wanted. You. I wanted you. I just couldn’t find you.” Tears started to slide down your cheeks. Everything about this night was overwhelming.
Sam wiped away your tears, kissed your temple, and whispered in your ear, “Shh. i’m here. I’ve got you now, my sweet Omega.”
You buried your face in his neck. The smell of the leather was receding now, blending back in with the mahogany and champagne. “Are you sure I’m your Omega, Sam? I mean I know I must not look like the other Omegas you’ve been with.”
He held you closer to him. “Yes, I’m sure.” You felt a fresh wave of his seed pumping into your womb. Sam put his fingers under your chin and tilted your face up to look at him. “You are more beautiful than any woman I’ve ever seen.”
You smiled, and a different kind of tears filled your eyes. This time they didn’t fall. You felt secure. You felt wanted, and you felt claimed even though he hadn’t yet put his mark on you. He would though. You knew it. Sam would claim you, mark you, and you would be proud for everyone to see it.
Sam brushed his thumb over your chin just below your lip. “What are you thinking, my Omega?”
You nodded just enough to kiss his thumb that was beneath your lips. “I’m thinking you were worth the wait.”

Chapter 17: Kings and Queens
“Look out!” Chloe shoved Marinette out of the way of a red beam of light. Her knees buckled, and Marinette scrambled to catch her.
“What a shame. I missed.” Black boots climbed long legs, kissing the hems of a ripped dress at the top. A dark tiara crowned flowing red curls, framing the dark green eyes glaring at them from behind a black mask.
“Gabrielle?” Marinette gasped.
“I go by Heiress now, but don’t worry, Marinette, your stupidity has bought you a free pass. I just wanted to make sure my powers were working, and it looks like they do.” She nodded to the girl coming to in Marinette’s arms before strutting off.
Chloe sat up with a groan, rubbing her head. “Ugh, what was that?”
“Chloe, your-” Marinette clamped a hand over her mouth.
Her once shiny hair hung dull and stringy at her shoulders, now resembling straw more than soft silk. Perfectly manicured nails had shriveled into dirty stubs, and her Gabriel-original dress was replaced with a knock-off.
“What?” Chloe’s shoulders heaved, escalating until a shrill scream echoed through the hall.
“You saved me—I think.” Marinette winced. “It looks like Heiress’s power made you-”
“Poor!” Chloe screeched. “Oh, Ladybug better get here soon and fix this! If I see that akuma, I’ll teach her to put me in off-brands!”
“Wait, you saved me. You saved me!” Marinette realized. “Aw, you do miss me.”
“No, I don’t!” Chloe’s cheeks flushed. “I didn’t even know what was happening. I just reacted, okay?”
“Please, you don’t have a selfless bone in your body. You saved me because you miss me,” Marinette said.
“Do not.”
“Do too.”
“Do not!” At Marinette’s smug grin, Chloe folded her arms over her chest with a huff. “Whatever. I’m going after that akuma to give her a piece of my mind. You can go get help or… go buy some shoes that aren’t awful!”
“I don’t think you’re one to talk about awful shoes right now.” Marinette pointed to the ratty sneakers on Chloe’s feet.
“Just go,” Chloe said through clenched teeth.
Marinette raced up the hall, a smile tugging the corners of her lips. She hated to admit it, but in a weird way, she did miss Chloe Bourgeois. Wow. She never thought she’d say that.
“You’re changing a lot of mean girls today.” Tikki remarked when Marinette ducked into a closet. “I think that was Chloe’s way of protecting you.”
“I’m not holding my breath. She probably had too much wine,” Marinette said. “But never mind that. Transform me!”
Ladybug sprinted back up the hall, palming her yoyo in one hand. She should have known Gabrielle would get akumatized once her secret got out, but now wasn’t the time to play blame games. There was an akuma to catch.
Rounding the corner, she collided with another person, scrambling to catch their hand before they both fell backward. “Sorry!” she gasped, but when gorgeous green eyes locked with hers, her heart took off into a sprint.
“Ladybug?” Adrien blinked in surprise. “What’s going on?”
Why did she have to find him now? Even if she defeated the akuma quickly, she needed to be there for Gabrielle. Lisette would have to help her look cute for him another time.
“There’s an akuma on the loose. You should find somewhere to hide,” she said.
“Right.” He flicked his gaze down to their hands, still twined.
Ladybug let go, cheeks burning. “Um, stay safe, okay?”
“Good luck, Ladybug,” he said before running the other way up the hall.
She watched him go with a longing sigh. What she wouldn’t give to be a normal girl right now. Then they could snuggle up and hide together, and maybe he’d finally kiss her. They could get married, buy a house, and-
She patted her cheeks to snap herself out of her trance. There was no time for that now. Akuma first, then Gabrielle, Adrien later.
Terrified shrieks signaled that Heiress had found the rest of the party. Thomas was the one who outed her, so he was likely Heiress’s first target. Ladybug needed to get to him first, even if he was one of the skeeviest people she’d ever met. It wasn’t her job to pick who needed saving. Why did she have to be such a good person?
Bursting into the dining room, she skidded to a stop as Heiress zapped Thomas before she could even draw her yoyo.
“No!”
The tall boy transformed in front of her. Perfectly combed brown hair shriveled into shaggy clumps, and a once flawless complexion broke out in angry, red zits. Stylish clothes turned to tattered rags as Thomas became a shell of his former glory. He scurried away from Heiress with a squeal, and she turned to Ladybug with a triumphant smirk.
“Too slow,” Heiress said, “but don’t worry. Now I have plenty of time for you.”
Ladybug dodged the red beam. She might have been too late to save Thomas, but there was still time to save Gabrielle. This battle was far from over. She just needed to focus.
“I know you think there isn’t a way out of your situation, but teaming up with Hawkmoth isn’t the answer!” Ladybug pleaded.
“Please, I’ve lived among these people long enough to know that they don’t appreciate what they have. I know I didn’t…” Heiress lowered her gaze, jaw clenched. “My family lost everything, but now I can take it all back!”
Ladybug flipped out of the way of several blasts, taking the time to examine her opponent closely. The barcode scanner shot red beams of light that stripped its victims of their fancy clothes, jewelry, devices—anything expensive. Gabrielle wanted everyone to feel the pain of losing everything, so she was taking all of their wealth for herself.
A metal baton struck Heiress’s hand, skewing her next shot, and a black-clad feline cast his partner a smirk. “Having a party without me? I’m insulted.”
“Your invitation must have gotten lost in the mail,” Ladybug said. “You and I both know it’s not a party without your sweet dance moves, kitty. Care to show us how it’s done?”
“It would be my pleasure, LB.” Chat Noir winked.
Heiress pointed her scanner at him. “I wonder how much that cat suit is worth.”
Chat Noir dodged her attack easily. “This cat’s style is one-of-a-kind. All the money in the world can’t buy this swagger.”
“We’ll see about that,” Heiress growled.
The heroes took turns charging in, dodging and weaving around beams from her scanner. Ladybug hooked her yoyo around Heiress’s legs, swinging her around into the China hutch. Realizing she was outmatched, Heiress retreated to the living room where more party guests were hiding, but Ladybug and Chat Noir were hot on her trail.
“Run!” Ladybug ordered, and terrified teens scattered.
Heiress ducked out of the way of Chat’s baton, scanning anyone who passed her between blows. Lisette’s older brother raced from behind the couch, and Heiress wasted no time scanning him before he reached the door. She caught Chat Noir’s staff on the next swing, a grin curling on her lips.
“Looks like someone’s watch was worth a lot. I wonder how much this costs?” She scanned Chat Noir’s baton, leaving him with a plastic copy.
“Hey!” Chat Noir gasped.
Ladybug snagged her yoyo around Heiress’s wrist before she could scan him, but Heiress kicked him through the large window with one long leg instead. Before Ladybug could react, Heiress gripped the string of the yoyo and spun her out after him.
Chat Noir braced as she landed on top of him in the bush, her yoyo bouncing onto the grass beside them. They rolled over with groans, untangling their limbs, and Ladybug grasped for her yoyo.
“Everything she scans makes her stronger depending on its worth. We need to think of a plan,” she said.
“I’m all ears, Bug.” Ladybug eyed him. “What?”
“You haven’t called me m’lady or Bugaboo all evening. I think it’s a new record for you.” She flicked his bell with a smirk.
“Well, I- you hate it when I call you that,” he said pointedly, cheeks flushed.
“That’s never stopped you before. Has another lady finally stolen your heart?” she giggled.
“I-”
“Ladybug!” Chloe shouted. “What are you two doing out here? The akuma is turning more people into dried up peasants. Have you seen what she did to my hair? Bring me my Miraculous, so I can beat some sense into her!”
“Chloe, this isn’t the time for revenge.” Ladybug sighed.
“I’m not out for revenge,” Chloe said matter-of-factly. “The faster we defeat the akuma, the faster I go back to looking fabulous. So bring me my Miraculous, and let me help you, please?” Chloe pressed her palms together, and Ladybug pursed her lips.
Chloe was right. They needed to defeat the akuma quickly and save Gabrielle, but did she really want to give Chloe her Miraculous back? With her identity blown, Chloe was in even more danger every time she became Queen Bee. Not to mention trusting Chloe in general was risky, but after she sacrificed herself for Marinette earlier…
Something was different about Chloe. Sure was still the same bratty, primadonna, but her blue eyes were steadfast and sincere. Ladybug once believed that giving Chloe a Miraculous would help her be better, and part of her still believed that.
There was only one way to settle this.
“Lucky Charm!” Ladybug caught the record as it manifested and turned it over in her hands.
“Now isn’t the time to practice your DJing.” Chloe scoffed.
Ladybug glanced between Chat Noir, Chloe, the plants surrounding them, but nothing stood out. A record. What was she supposed to do with a record? Unless…
“I have to go. Chat Noir, keep an eye on Heiress until I get back, but be careful. I don’t want you getting scanned. We don’t know what will happen to our powers if she scans one of us,” Ladybug said.
“Got it.”
“Are you going to bring me my Miraculous?” Chloe perked up.
“Do you promise not to do anything reckless while I’m gone?” Ladybug asked.
“Oh, yes, yes, yes! I promise, Ladybug.” Chloe bounced excitedly, then cocking a hip added, “But hurry up! These shoes make me physically ill.”
Ladybug rolled her eyes and dashed up the lawn, leaping through the very same garden she and Adrien had walked through an hour before. The mansion was far from Master Fu’s apartment, but her yoyo made short work of the trip. Her mentor was enjoying his bedtime tea when she entered, sitting cross-legged on the mat with Wayzz on his shoulder.
“Master, there’s an akuma, and I think my lucky charm wanted me to come here.” Marinette flicked her gaze to the phonograph resting on the chest in the back.
“Then there is no time to waste,” Master Fu said. He set his tea aside and retrieved the Miracle Box from its hiding place. “Who do you have in mind?”
Marinette surveyed her options with pursed lips, then resigned herself and reached for the bee. Chloe was different tonight, and if they were going to stop Heiress, they needed an ally they could count on. Never in her life did she picture that to be Chloe, but given the present circumstances, she didn’t have any other options.
“Are you sure, Marinette? Choosing her is risky.” Master Fu cautioned.
“It’s a long story, but…” Marinette smiled. “I’m sure.”
“Then best of luck.”
When Marinette changed schools, she intended to leave everyone behind and start over, but the most unlikely people had found their way back to her. Adrien took her by the hand and refused to let go. Chloe begrudgingly kept one foot in the door, constantly threatening to close it for good, but something told Marinette she never would.
To Ladybug’s surprise, Chloe actually listened to her instructions to stay out of trouble. When Ladybug found her, she was dutifully ushering other raggedly dressed teens out to the garden. She really could behave when she wanted to.
Chloe spotted her on the balcony, and when Ladybug waved the small box, Chloe raced up the stairs faster than she’d ever run in gym class. She held out her hands expectantly, but Ladybug held up a finger.
“I’m trusting you this time, Chloe, but you don’t need a Miraculous to be a hero, ya know. You can be nicer to those around you all the time,” Ladybug said.
“Yeah, yeah,” Chloe groaned. “Can I have my Miraculous now?”
“Do you promise to be nicer to people?”
Chloe’s cheeks flushed, and she crossed her arms over her chest. “Alright, fine.”
Ladybug tossed her the box, and Chloe ripped it open, completely unfazed as Pollen materialized. She fastened the comb into her hair and smiled. “Pollen, transform me!”
Ladybug didn’t wait for Queen Bee’s transformation to finish before they hit the ground running. Chat Noir had been holding Heiress back on his own, and it was time to bring him some backup.
The two heroines kicked in the front door, leaping straight into action. Ladybug shielded Chat Noir with her yoyo while Queen Bee snagged Heiress’s leg with her spinner and tossed her through the door to the living room.
“You sure kept me waiting,” Chat Noir said.
“It was kind of a long trip, but I thought we could use some help,” Ladybug said as Queen Bee fluffed her ponytail.
“Let’s show this wannabe who the real queen is.” Queen Bee readied her spinner.
“So, what’s the plan?” Chat Noir asked.
“If Queen Bee can sting Heiress with her Venom, then you can Cataclysm her scanner. Avoid getting hit at all costs. There’s no telling how powerful a Miraculous will make her,” Ladybug said.
Heiress was kicking debris from the cabinet she’d crashed into when the heroes found her. They didn’t waste time as she righted herself, taking turns charging in. With a growl of frustration, Heiress flipped back into the foyer, scanning the crystal chandelier in the process. Ladybug’s yoyo wasn’t far behind, snagging her wrist again. Queen Bee bound her legs with her spinning top, but Heiress absorbed enough power from the chandelier to break the stone fountain beside her. Tossing a large chunk at Queen Bee, Heiress freed her legs, using her free arm to sling Ladybug into the staircase. Chat Noir grappled with Heiress while his partners recovered, but Heiress parried his blows easily before taking his wrist and tossing him across the foyer.
Ladybug sat up with a wince, rubbing her back where it had collided with the smooth marble. Her yoyo had bounced to the base of the stairs, too far for her to reach as Heiress closed in. She braced as Heiress raised her scanner, but a flash of yellow shot across the foyer.
“No!” Queen Bee leaped between Ladybug and the red beam.
Vibrant yellows dulled, long golden curls shriveling to dried husks. The bee comb in her hair lost its shine, transforming into a powerless, plastic barrette. Queen Bee collapsed at Ladybug’s feet.
“A noble sacrifice, but even your Miraculous has given me enough power to end this fight quickly,” Heiress said.
“Cataclysm!”
Heiress turned as Chat Noir slid past her, dragging his claws across the tile. The ground crumbled and gave out under his touch, plunging Heiress into the wine cellar below. He raced over to Ladybug, kneeling beside Queen Bee as she sat up.
“She really saved your skin, LB,” he said.
“She saved all of us,” Ladybug corrected. “That was really selfless of you, Queen Bee. Thank you.”
“If she hit you, then things would never go back to normal.” Queen Bee took Ladybug’s hand, pressing the yoyo to her palm. “You’re the only one who can fix all of this, so don’t you dare let me getting hit by that freak twice be for nothing.”
Ladybug nodded, gripping her yoyo tightly before issuing the call, “Lucky Charm!” She caught the small black card as it materialized, turning it over in her hands. “A credit card?”
“Well, she’s certainly got enough money to take you shopping,” Chat Noir remarked.
Ladybug pursed her lips, flicking her gaze around the room. With Chat Noir’s belt, her yoyo, the credit card, and Queen Bee…
“I know what to do. Chat Noir, I need you to lure her into the dining room and be ready to use your belt,” she instructed. “Queen Bee, come with me.”
“But I don’t have any powers.”
Ladybug offered her a smile and pulled her to her feet. “Remember what I told you. You don’t need superpowers to be a hero. Trust me.”
Queen Bee searched her expression, then smiled, and the two heroines retreated up the hall.
“So, what’s the plan?” Queen Bee asked as they entered the dining room.
“How fast can you swipe a credit card?” Ladybug turned to her, and Queen Bee cocked a hip.
“Please, I can swipe one faster than my daddy can realize how much money I’m spending,” she said. “Why?”
“Chat Noir and I are going to subdue Heiress, but we need you to swipe this across her scanner. It’s maxed out, so it’s basically worthless. With any luck, it will short-circuit her powers long enough to get the scanner away from her,” Ladybug explained. She placed the card in Queen Bee’s hands. “I’m counting on you.”
Queen Bee squared her shoulders with a nod. “Okay, Ladybug!”
Footsteps pounded in the hallway, growing closer, and Ladybug signaled Queen Bee to her position. When Chat Noir burst through the door, he removed his belt as Ladybug readied her yoyo. Heiress was hot on his trail, and the two heroes engaged her the moment she stepped through the door.
“Chat Noir!” Ladybug called.
He slid across the floor on his knees, looping his belt around Heiress’s legs and pulling tight. Ladybug lassoed her torso with her yoyo, immobilizing her limbs. Queen Bee slid in, swiping the credit card across the scanner with practiced precision.
Heiress shook them off, but when she raised her arm to scan Chat Noir, no red beams flashed.
“What?” She banged it against her palm.
“Oops, looks like I’ve hit my limit,” Queen Bee said.
Chat Noir kicked the scanner from her grasp, and Ladybug snagged it from the air with her yoyo, slamming it against the ground. The casing shattered, and the black butterfly fluttered free.
“No more evil-doing for you, little akuma. Time to deevilize!” she recited. Queen Bee handed her the credit card, and Ladybug tossed it into the air. “Miraculous Ladybug!”
Her magic spread around the mansion, repairing broken cabinets and missing objects, and most importantly, everyone’s fancy clothes. Chat Noir kissed his baton as it reappeared in his hands. Queen Bee twirled in delight as her Miraculous regained its power.
Gabrielle stood up, averting her gaze. Ladybug approached her, but before she could get close, Gabrielle stalked from the room. A speech from Ladybug wasn’t what she needed—Gabrielle needed a friend.
“It feels so good to be fabulous again,” Queen Bee said with a contented sigh.
“Thanks for your help. You can be really selfless when you want to be,” Ladybug said. “Imagine how much of a difference you could make if you were nice all the time.”
Queen Bee’s cheeks flushed. “Okay, okay, whatever!” She flipped her ponytail over one shoulder. “I’ll think about it.”
Chat Noir joined in, and the three touched their fists together.
“Pound it!”
“Well, I hope this is a lesson to Hawkmoth. If an akuma ever ruins my hair again, he’ll have Queen Bee to deal with.” Chloe removed the comb from her hair and handed it back to Ladybug. She headed for the door with her head high but paused with her hand on the frame. “Thanks, Ladybug. For trusting me.”
Ladybug smiled as she sauntered off, turning to Chat Noir. “Thanks for your help, kitty.”
“We’re partners, aren’t we? I can’t let you have all the fun,” he said, shifting when Ladybug pursed her lips at him. “What?”
“Are you okay? You’re quiet today. Usually, you talk my ear off,” she said.
He eyed her with a pensive frown and shook his head. “It’s nothing. I’ll see you next time.”
He raced off without kissing her hand or even a parting flirtatious remark on how beautiful her hair looked in the light. Something was off about him, but she couldn’t place her finger on what. This wasn’t one of his usual pouts when she refused to go on a date with him, and it had been a while since he’d even asked for one. Was he finally moving on from her?
Ladybug shook her head to clear it. There was no time to worry about him. She needed to find Gabrielle.
♪♫♪ Old Scars/Future Hearts ♪♫♪
“Gabrielle!” Marinette skipped down the stairs.
The red-head slumping for the front doors turned over her shoulder with a scowl, but her face softened when she saw Marinette—slightly. “What do you want?”
“I just wanted to make sure you were okay. Thomas told everyone about your family, then you got akumatized,” Marinette said.
“Ugh, you’re such a goody-two-shoes.” Gabrielle rolled her eyes. “You shouldn’t be seen with me. If they catch you being nice, they’ll throw you under the bus just as quickly as they did me. Trust me, it’s better if you just ignore me from now on.”
“But what about you?” Marinette asked.
“What about me?” Gabrielle grunted. “I’m done. Now that everyone knows my family’s out of money, I’m the school laughingstock. As far as they’re concerned, I deserve it. Don’t waste your time on me. It’s more trouble than it’s worth.”
Marinette remained quiet, eyebrows knitting together before she finally muttered, “I’m sorry.”
“For what? It’s not like you spent all of our money,” Gabrielle said.
“Yeah, but I know it must be hard for you.”
“Why do you care?” Gabrielle asked. “It’s not like I’ve been nice to you. I dragged you here against your will, then wouldn’t even let you socialize with me. You shouldn’t care about me.”
“Well, you don’t know me very well,” Marinette said, “but you could. We could be friends if you wanted.”
Gabrielle opened her mouth as if to say something, then shook her head, red curls bouncing against her shoulders. “No. I don’t think we could be. Even if I wanted to be your friend, it’s social suicide for you.”
When Marinette frowned, Gabrielle rolled her eyes and added, “Look, forget about me, okay? Forget any of this ever happened. We’re not friends, and we never will be. Just leave me alone!”
Marinette watched her climb into her town car, a sinking feeling weighing her stomach. Gabrielle was right. She shouldn’t care. But she did. Maybe she was just a goody-two-shoes, but Marinette had seen a more vulnerable side of Gabrielle—one that she likely didn’t show many people. After everything, Marinette truly believed that Gabrielle Burton wasn’t a bad person. She just needed someone to show her how to be good.
“Marinette?” She turned to find Adrien approaching from the living room.
“Hey,” she said lamely. Because what did one say to the love of their life after an almost-kiss in the garden?
“I saw you talking to that girl, and I didn’t want to interrupt,” Adrien said. “I don’t know exactly what happened, but isn’t that the girl who was picking on your friend the other day?”
“Yeah,” Marinette said, and when Adrien tilted his head to the side, she added, “it’s kind of complicated.”
“Right,” he said. “So, I guess you need a ride home then?”
“What?”
“Earlier you said that girl brought you here, and now she left, so we can take you home if you want.” Adrien offered. Was it possible for him to be any more dreamy?
“Oh… I guess, I do need a ride. Thank you,” she said. And maybe they could pick up where they left off in the garden. Did she dare even think about it? But what if he tried to kiss her again? Oh, the stories they could tell their kids one day.
“Hey!” Chloe called from the base of the stairs.
Oh, right. Chloe.
“Didn’t I separate you two earlier?” she growled.
“Marinette needs a ride home,” Adrien said, and Chloe cocked a hip.
“She’s got legs.”
“Chloe.” Adrien scolded. “She’s riding with us.”
“No.” Chloe whined, but after a stern look from Adrien, she sighed. “Fine, but we’re dropping her off first. I don’t want to be stuck in a car with her for any longer than I have to be.”
“Well, aren’t you sweet,” Marinette said.
“I’m only doing this because Ladybug told me to be nicer to people, so I can still be Queen Bee. Don’t think for a second it’s because I like you.” Chloe retorted.
“Don’t worry. I’d never imagine that you like me.” Marinette rolled her eyes. “I haven’t missed you.”
“Well, I haven’t missed you either!”
“Maybe you two just shouldn’t talk on the ride home.” Adrien suggested gently.
“Fine, I don’t want to talk to Dupain-Cheng anyway.” Chloe flipped her ponytail over one shoulder. “You and I can have glowing conversation, Adrikins.”
“Why do you get to talk to Adrien?”
“Because I’ve known him the longest, so ha!” Chloe stuck her tongue out.
Adrien sighed and fell into step alongside Marinette. “Sorry, I know it’s not ideal, but it beats walking.”
“It’s fine. I don’t get to argue with her much anymore, so this is filling up my quota.” Marinette shrugged.
As Adrien reached to open the door for her, another voice called out from the front door. “Leaving already?”
Marinette’s spine stiffened, and she spun around to see Thomas pacing down the front steps like a predator stalking his prey; however, he wasn’t approaching her.
“I saw you fighting that akuma with Ladybug earlier. Being a superhero is pretty cool, huh?” He looked Chloe up and down. “You’re the mayor’s daughter, right?”
Chloe eyed him with disinterest, her nose wrinkling in disgust. “Didn’t Dupain-Cheng turn you down earlier?”
“Well, she and I didn’t exactly hit it off-” Chloe held up a hand to silence him.
“Save it,” she said. “I’m not anyone’s second-choice, and I’m sure as heck not taking home Dupain-Cheng’s scraps. Buzz off, loser.”
Marinette hated to admit it, but she was actually proud of Chloe. Thomas was sleazy, arrogant, and greedy—just her type. Maybe Chloe really had changed.
“Absolutely not. Move over.” Chloe wedged her way between Adrien and Marinette on the seat.
And maybe she hadn’t.

Chase’s Bday Present Pt 1
Runs in holding a latte *wheeze...* I’m here! And I have three presents for Chase because I’m indecisive as hell! So! Here is the first birthday present, a sweet little ditty I wrote!
CW: talk of food, slight body horror and stitches mention (Robbie), and Soft Anti
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Septic house was in disarray. Jameson Jackson frantically polished the stairway and furniture until it sparkled, Marvin the Magnificent washed the dishes while Jackieboy Man dried them, and Antisepticeye cleaned up the living room seats. All the while, Dr. Henrik von Schneeplestein, MD, PhD, MVP, FFS, loomed over all of them, barking orders while cleaning the floors. Robbie the zombie was the only one not under Schneep’s scrutiny, having wisely taken shelter in the laundry room, folding clothes and ironing while waiting to put the next load in. Sirius and Sam, Marvin’s cat and Henrik’s dog respectively, had taken to hiding upstairs.
“I don’t see what the big deal is,” Anti said as he vacuumed up the couch and cushioned seats. “It’s just Chase. He’s seen this house before, why bother cleaning it?”
“Chase hasn’t been here in awhile! I want him to receive a warm welcome back!” Henrik explained. “I do hope he enjoyed the cottage with Stacy and the kids though.”
“It’s only been two weeks! Not much has changed since!” Anti groaned.
“Jameson turned you into a turtle,” Marvin pointed out. Jameson snickered at the memory.
“Henrik tried his first bit of magic!” Jackie added. “Managed to turn Jameson into a duck!”
“See? Loads happened while he was gone,” Henrik finished. Anti rolled his eyes and went out to beat the rugs.
“Jameson, can you tune the piano? One of us might want to play something upon his arrival, and we can’t have the piano broken when we do so,” Henrik asked. Jameson nodded and happily left his cloth on the staircase, hands aching to touch the piano.
Henrik put the vacuum away and turned to the flower vase on the living room table. Daffodils. They didn’t seem quite as bright as they did earlier.
“Do you think we should change the flowers in the vase?” Henrik wondered out loud.
“Daffodils are Chase’s favourite flowers!” Anti yelled from outside. “I think we’re okay!”
“They look so dull, though,” Henrik remarked.
“I have an idea!” Marvin cried out. He dried his hands and ran over. “Stargazer lilies are also Chase’s favourite flower! Jameson and I have been growing them in our garden while he was gone. I can pluck a few and replace them!”
“Aren’t they poisonous to cats?” Jackie asked, nervously looking over at Sirius, who had descended to lie on the steps.
“Sirius hates flowers, the smell bothers her. She won’t go near them. But just in case-” Marvin picked up the vase and put them on the dining room table, then summoned a forcefield to keep Sirius away. Just for good measure, he also created two plastic cucumbers and placed them around the plant. Henrik and Jackie snickered. Marvin could hear Sirius scowling at him.
“I’ll get some lilies!” Marvin said, picking the daffodils up and running out. He almost collided with Anti, who was holding at least six rugs. Anti threw the rugs down one by one, then flopped onto the couch, yawning.
“Anti, don’t tell me you’re tired already!” Henrik said, sighing exasperatedly. “There’s still so much to do!”
“Like what?” mumbled Anti, eyes threatening to close.
“Like a treat! I was thinking of making a sweet dessert for Chase!” Henrik announced.
“But we just cleaned the kitchen!” complained Jackie.
“Relax, I’ll clean everything when I’m done,” Henrik reassured. “You go rest, I’ll be hogging the kitchen for a while!”
Jackie nodded and gratefully stumbled over to the couch, hoping to catch some winks before Chase’s return.
“Can I help?” Robbie asked, finally emerging from the laundry room.
{I can help as well!} offered Jameson bouncing back from the piano.
“Thanks guys,” Henrik said. “This is a new recipe we’ll be making: Cheddar Biscuits.”
Robbie and Jameson froze and stared at Henrik quizzically. “What?”
“Cheddar biscuits. Stacy emailed me the recipe,” Henrik explained. “They’re apparently really good.”
“Even the name sounds like a treat!” Jameson sighed. “Let’s make them!”
Henrik, Jameson and Robbie spent the next hour or so in the kitchen. Jameson and Henrik did the bulk of the work, Jameson mixing dry ingredients while Henrik did liquid, while Robbie shredded cheese and melted butter with pieces of garlic in them.
Finally, they clumped the mixture together and spread butter on them, then popped them in the oven and washed up the dishes.
When they were done, at least 24 golden brown scones had been made. The six egos marvelled over the glorious little treats. Even Sam and Sirius couldn’t resist coming over and squeezing through to sniff the food. Anti reached a hand out, only to have it smacked away by Henrik.
“Wait until Chase is home, you greedy monster!” he scolded. Anti grunted in frustration.
The biscuits were placed in a little basket with two napkins on top to keep them fresh, then hidden in the bottom cupboard next to the oven, where Henrik kept his coffee beans. No one with a braincell dared to go near Henrik’s coffee supply, and only few ever survived getting in.
*
“Everything is finished! We can rest now!” Marvin cried in delight.
“Can’t wait for Chase to see!” Jackie said happily. “How long before he returns?”
Henrik checked his watch. “Not until 6 o’clock at the latest!”
The egos collectively groaned in frustration. Only 1:30 pm and now they had to wait!
“You woke us all up at 6:30 in the fucking morning for this?! We could have slept a little longer you know!” Jackie snapped.
“Yeah, especially after you kept us all up with you Facetiming Chase until midnight last night!” Marvin added.
“If Chase notices the bags under my eyes, it’s because of you!” Jameson griped.
“At least everything is ready now!” Henrik reasoned. “Now all we have to do is wait! And not mess up the house in those few hours! If you want to do something, make sure it involves little movement or anything that could shake the house up. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m taking a nap!” He flounced upstairs, leaving the egos to find any activity to pass the time.
*
Two hours passed. Jameson taught Robbie how to play cribbage. Jackie and Anti attempted to teach Marvin how to play, or rather, cheat at Mario Kart. Henrik switched between pacing the front hallway and playing Solitaire and Bio Inc Redemption on his laptop.
“Henrik, do sit down and relax!” Jameson finally said after Henrik got up for the thirteen time.
“I can’t help it! I miss Chase! I want to talk to him again!” Henrik moaned.
“You spent three hours with him on Facetime last night!” Anti exclaimed.
“There is a very big difference between Facetiming someone and seeing them in person!” Henrik retorted. “Do you know how hard it is to talk to him and not smell his vanilla scent or feel his warm embrace? I miss seeing him at the table with his messy hair and stupid puns. I miss hearing his laugh in person. I miss him so badly.”
“Are we jokes to you?!” Marvin demanded. “We miss him too, Henrik, but we have each other. You literally said you enjoyed sitting next to me on movie nights!”
“I know… maybe I’m just being too clingy,” Henrik sighed, sitting down beside Marvin.
Anti snapped his fingers and Mario Kart showed up on Henrik’s computer screen. “Here. Try playing a few games with us and he’ll come sooner.”
Another hour passed. Jameson read. Henrik screamed in fury as he lost another round of Mario Kart. Anti laughed at him. Marvin gave up and started playing Animal Crossing. Jackie grabbed a snack and watched Youtube. Robbie and Sam were fast asleep on the floor. Jameson laughed softly and conjured a blanket to put over them, then went back to his reading.
Henrik was raging so loudly they almost didn’t hear the doorbell. Jameson was the first to hear it. He whistled to get the others’ attention. Robbie woke up and groggily rubbed his eyes.
“Do you hear that?” Jameson asked, putting his ear up to listen. Another ring. Then a voice cried out, “Hello? Are you going to let me in? Did you already forget me? Have I been kicked out?”
Henrik gasped in delight and almost threw his laptop onto the floor, but Anti was quick to save it as the doctor jumped out his seat and dashed over the front door, swinging it open.
Chase Brody stood in the doorway, still playing with the doorbell. He jumped when he noticed the door open.
“CHASE!!!!” Henrik squealed, throwing himself on the vlogger. “I MISSED YOU SO MUCH!!” Chase giggled as Henrik showered him with kisses and squeezed him tightly. Sam danced around them, barking happily.
“Hello, Henrik. Long time, no see.” Chase waved to the others. “Hey guys!”
“Chase! Welcome home!” Marvin said, running over to hug him. “We missed you too, but probably not as much as Henrik.”
“Yeah… Henrik? Could you let me go, please?” Chase wheezed. Henrik was starting to suffocate him. “I… can’t… breathe…”
“Come inside! We made treats!” Robbie cried, dragging Chase in by the hand.
“Did you now?” Chase sniffed the air. “Ooh, I can smell it!”
“We also ordered some chocolate snacks from Shawn Flynn’s Sweet Menagerie, just to celebrate your return!” Jackie added.
“Sounds awesome!” Chase exclaimed.
{Come, make yourself at home!} Jameson said. Chase was led to the couch, where his feet were propped up and a blanket was thrown over him. Sam jumped up beside him and curled up next to him, lying her head on his lap.
Henrik and Jackie set the table while Jameson and Anti got the food out. Chase would have happily gotten up to join them, but he was too tired to move, and Sam wouldn’t budge.
Marvin chuckled when he saw the sight. “Why don’t we eat in the living room tonight? Turn on Netflix and have a little movie fest?” The egos were quick to agree, and Henrik served Chase’s plate to him ona tray, choosing to sit next to him. Sam moved to the other side of the couch, letting Henrik in.
“Here you go! Dinosaur nuggets with mashed potatoes!” Henrik announced, setting the plate down. “Jameson convinced me to mix garlic butter into the potatoes this time, like you used to do!”
“It smells delicious!” Chase exclaimed in ecstasy. He dipped a nugget in the mashed potatoes and ate it, humming happily.
“So what movie are we watching?” Robbie asked, grabbing the remote.
“You’ve probably seen quite a few new movies at Stacy’s cottage,” Jackie told Chase. “Why don’t you decide?”
Chase shrugged. “Just a few. None of us could ever agree, so it was rare for us to watch a new movie. But we all agreed on this sweet little film.” Chase flipped through Amazon Prime until he found a title called This Beautiful Fantastic.
“It’s about a girl who wants to become a writer and slowly learns how to become a gardener.” Chase pressed play and they watched the film. Chase, Henrik and Sam on the couch, Marvin on the purple reclining chair, Anti on the teal green armchair, and Jameson, Jackie and Robbie on the ground.
Halfway through the movie, Jackie remarked, “That father reminds me a lot of you, Chase. I can see why you liked it.”
“Vern?” Chase asked. “He’s just a dad trying to raise his kids. What makes you think I’m like him?”
“You’re both sweet, and a total dork,” Marvin said. Chase playfully threw a pillow at him. Marvin snickered and exaggeratedly hugged the pillow. “I’m keeping this.”
“You both love cooking,” Jameson added.
“And you’re a devoted family man!” Henrik interjected.
“You are all so kind to me,” Chase said with a sigh. “I don’t deserve you guys.”
“Shut up, of course you do!” Marvin said.
“No I don’t!” Chase playfully retorted.
“Shhh, lies!” Jackie hissed, smiling.
“Stop!” Chase cried, blushing. “Seriously though, I didn’t think I would be getting the royal treatment after only two weeks away. I really didn’t do anything.”
“Funny, that’s what we said whenever we returned from vacations and travels,” Jackie remarked. “That didn’t stop you from throwing us a welcome back party.”
“It didn’t stop you from giving me a cake after my 100th successful surgery,” Henrik said.
“Or taking me to a fancy restaurant on my first full day without popping a stitch or losing a limb,” Robbie added.
“You bought me a handsome vest when I got that role I so desperately wanted,” Jameson reminisced.
“You’re a wonderful test subject for all my new spells,” Marvin said.
“You always celebrate us and our successes,” Jackie said. “After all you’ve done for us, I think it’s safe to say you deserve the best from us.”
Chase felt his eyes water up. Face red, he looked down, feeling embarrassed. He rubbed his eyes, smiling. “Thank you. You guys are always so sweet.”
Henrik gently kissed his forehead. “Welcome back, Chase.”
Chase finished wiping his eyes and looked up. “So. What happened when I was gone?”
Henrik grinned. “So, remember when I told you about getting magic lessons from Marvin? Funny story...”
Old Maid
The beautiful images of Cell 6 in Building Three had busy schedules. Even outside of entertaining the attentions of their fanclub, there were photo shoots and promotional materials to pose for, quizzes on beauty and general education to take, ammo ranges to clean, and mechanical projects to help out with.
But whenever the beautiful inmates did have some downtime, they tended to spend it playing card games to sharpen their wits and poker faces.
Well, Inmates 0303 and 0382 did. Inmate 0307 just hoped that he would not lose as badly as he normally did.
His lack of familiarity with the game strongly suggested that these hopes were soon to be dashed.
“So...the Joker is...bad?” Nana asked, staring at his hand of cards like they contained the secrets of the universe.
“For the fortieth time, yes.” Hani groaned. “Have you been listening at all?!”
“I have!” The young inmate flushed. “It’s just—it’s difficult.”
“How?!”
“Be nice, Hani-kun.” Trois laid a concilatory hand on his cellmate’s shoulder. “It is his first time after all. Nana-chan needs a bit of guidance so he can properly gain experience after all.”
“This stuff is basic intuition though!” Hani griped, shaking his cards for emphasis. “Not knowing it is as stupid as not knowing you have five toes!!”
“Jyugo-san has six toes. Nico-san told me he told him he lost one of them to a piranha.”
The two paused and looked at Nana. Trois reached out, carefully keeping his cards hidden, and pressed a hand to the boy’s shoulder. “Nana-chan, do you remember what we talked about the other day?”
Nana’s brow furrowed. “...That Jyugo-san shouldn’t be consulted about anything that isn't jailbreaking?”
“Yes. This is an example of one of those times.”
“Ah, that lockpick is seriously useless. Who the hell doesn’t know the number of toes humans have?! Did he sleep through goddamn school or something?” Hani complained, rolling his shoulders.
“...Did Jyugo-San go to school?” Nana asked, looking up from choosing a card from Hani’s deck.
There was a pause as the trio considered this.
“...Well, he must’ve! It’s not like the emotionless brat was born in jail— even if he was in juvie, he had to have a life before this— goddamn elementary schooling at least.” Hani proclaimed, rubbing the back of his neck doubtfully.
“Although, he and the rest of Cell 13 always say he’s in here for ‘jailbreaking’. There’s no mention of an original crime which lead to that like there is for Uno-kun and the others. And if he even drowns in the bathtub...” Trois mused.
Another, more dour silence as the implications sunk in.
“I-it’s kinda amazing that Jyugo-San functions as well as he does, isn’t it?” Nana asked shakily. “If he really was born in a prison, like Bane...”
“Bane?” Trois asked, raising a perfectly sculpted eyebrow as he placed the pair he’d just made with Nana’s card down.
“American comic book villain.” Hani informed him curtly. “Big guy on steroids, fights Batman. He was part of the inspiration for the bandit boss Yama in Winds and Clouds Chronicle Ninja Kamikaze that—”
“Wow, Hani-kun looks cool even when he’s oversharing about his favorite movie~” Trois steamrolled, leaving Hani to glare mutinously down at his cards.
“I-I’d like to hear more about it, Hani-senpai.” Nana tentatively volunteered, quailing slightly under Trois’ dry stare. “I-if it’s not too much trouble...”
“Hah!” Hani pointed a finger at Trois in smug glee. “Don’t worry Nana, we can do a movie marathon later.”
“Ah, okay! I’ll look forward to it!” The youngest member perked up again, turning back to his cards. The flash of panic on his face made it clear who had the Joker.
The mechanic sighed. “There go my hopes for having any cellmates with taste.”
“TROIS, YOU BAAAASTAAARD!!”
“Trois-senpai is mean!” The youngest inmate stuck out his tongue.
“Sorry, sorry. I’m just joking.” Trois held up a conciliatory hand. “Still, going back to the previous topic at hand, it is amazing that Jyugo-san is able to interact as a fairly stable and compassionate person, even given his...areas for growth.”
“How the hell does anyone get mugged by a grade schooler?” Hani sighed, taking a card from Trois’ deck. “And then get tricked into buying a weird vase in the same day, too?”
“...Jyugo-san was what now?” Nana asked, a look of incredulity crossing his face.
Trois chuckled. “Ah, you weren’t here for that story, were you? You’ll have to ask Uno-kun for the full version later.”
Nana went dark red for some reason, and began fidgeting with his cards. “A-ah, n-no, I’ll, I’ll just ask for i-it from Ni-Nico-san.”
Trois chuckled again, while Hani looked between them in confusion.
“Anyway,” The bespectacled inmate continued serenely, waiting for his cellmates to take their turns. “Maybe someone should provide Jyugo-san with some life advice, so his naïveté is not taken advantage of if he’s ever released.”
Hani scoffed as the smallest inmate’s fingers hovered indecisively over his hand. “As if that’d even help. It’d go in one of the lockpick’s ears and out the other.”
“Be nice, senpai.” Nana admonished gently, finally picking a card and holding his hand out to Trois.
“That’s right Hani-kun.” Trois added. “After all, Jyugo-san is just an unfortunate who couldn’t even guess the brand of underwear a woman wears, let alone the color.”
Hani’s expression became pensive and thoughtful, almost pitying.
By contrast, Nana’s face twisted in exasperation and disgust. “Why. Why do you two always do this?”
Both of the older inmates ignored him.
“Huh...” Hani closed his eyes and crossed his arms, keeping his cards pressed against his chest. “Life advice...like the fact that women who are wearing skirts without anything underneath are more likely to wear sexy or plain panties rather than anything patterned, just in case. And that white pants or bottoms usual mean white or pale pastel underwear, unless the material is thick enough that color wouldn’t show through.”
“How is that life advice?!” Nana squeaked, cheeks a vibrant red.
“That’s right Hani-kun.” Trois nodded seriously. “It’d be much better to advise him that the best laundry lines to get bras from are those on apartment buildings in big cities that are close in proximity to another building or roof. Those don’t tend to have the space inside to hang laundry, and it’s much easier to avoid a trespassing charge if you lean over and swipe it than if you’re caught climbing into someone’s garden, even if those have less security cameras.”
“That’s not any better!!” Nana shrieked. “In fact, it’s kinda worse! That’s seriously sexual harrassment at least! You’re gonna turn Jyugo-san into a deviant with advice like that!!”
“He’s in jail. He’s already a deviant.” Trois pouted.
“What the hell would you say then, if you’re so wise about how the outside world works?” Hani sneered, eyebrow twitching.
“I never said that! But...hm...life advice for Jyugo-san...” Nana pressed a knuckle to his mouth, frowning in concentration while his other hand flopped into his lap and showed off the faces of his cards. “Ah!”
He sat up straighter and gestured with an index finger. “Ryphenol makes your drink taste really salty, and you can fight the effects for about 20 minutes to get attention before the drug makes you pass out. Additionally, if you’re being followed by a scary person, go up to a building and yell fire!’ while banging on the door, because that will make people come out rather than ignore you.”
There was a moment of stunned silence as the two beautiful inmates absorbed this.
“...Do you mean Rohypnol, Nana-chan?” Trois asked with a slightly strained smile.
“Um...Ah, yeah, that’s the one!” The child smiled, looking pleased with himself. “Plus, if you ever get taken somewhere against your will, do whatever you can to escape before you get taken to a second location, because your chances of survival go down drastically once that happens!”
“Why the hell is all your advice an anti-abduction PSA?!” Hani demanded.
“W-Well, Jyugo-san is clearly the type of guy who gets into trouble easily!” Nana countered, puffing out his cheeks. “It’ll be of more use to him to know that the police can find him easier with forsonics if he leaves hair or blood behind than how to guess a woman’s underwear color!”
“You take that back!!” Hani roared. “And what the fuck are forsonics?!”
“Forsonics! Forsonic science! The stuff police use to identify DNA and fingerprints and clothing fibers!” Nana yelled back.
“THAT’S FORENSICS, YOU LITTLE IDIOT!!”
“Is not!”
“IS!”
“Is NOT!”
“Nana-chan, I think Hani-kun is unusually correct about the pronunciation.” Trois intervened, finally finished with examining the content of the arrow head’s deck.
“HAH!” Hani cheered, sticking a finger in Nana’s face. “Wait, thE HELL DO YOU MEAN, ‘UNUSUALLY’?!”
Nana’s cheeks went red and he stared sullenly down at his cards, tears beading at the corners of his eyes.
“Ah, Nana-chan, don’t cry.”
“‘M not.” He rubbed his face on his shoulder.
“Seriously?” Hani quirked an eyebrow. “If that’s enough to start the waterworks, maybe you’re the one who needs life advice.”
Nana dropped his cards, bright red spots high in his puffed cheeks, lips pressed together sharply.
The boy stood, strode back over to his bunk, and crawled underneath it.
“Now you’ve done it.” Trois sighed, picking up the scattered cards and using them to discreetly make pairs
“Oh for fuck’s sake—“ Hani shot a glare towards the bunk. “Come out, brat.”
“Don’t wanna.” Came the stroppy reply.
“Don’t be stupid, Kiji’ll get pissy if you get dust on your clothes again.” Hani barked, fuse rapidly burning short. “Come out from under there already.”
“Take it back.” Nana demanded, the pout audible in his voice.
“Like hell!”
“Ah, I win again.” Trois said, satisfied.
Hani started down at all the “miraculously” formed pairs of cards in front of his innocently-beaming cellmate. Then at his own hand, where the Joker which most certainly hadn’t been there a minute ago was surreptitiously nestled into his grip.
“TROIS, YOU BAAAASTAAARD!!”
(In Cell 13, Inmate 1315 finally gets over his compulsive sneezing fit.)
(“Maybe it was girls talking about you!” Nico volunteers optimistically.)
(“What, him and his pink nipples?” Uno jokes. “Get real, it was probably Hajime complaining again.”)
(Jyugo throws a cushion at the braided asshole.)
(He misses.)
"Are you sure we should be doing this, Jason?" Cristal asked nervously, glancing around. "I mean, it's really not good to mess with this stuff. . . especially not tonight."
Jason scoffed. "Nothing's gonna happen, Cris. It's just an old book. A game. We'll be fine."
"NoooOooOo, but Jase, Cristal's right!" whined Brandon in a sarcastic falsetto tone. "It's Halloween, and a blue moon, so obviously we can't do anything fun today or else we'll all kill each other!"
"Yeah, lighten up, Cris," said Emily, bumping Cristal's shoulder lightheartedly. "It's just a game. Let's have some fun with it!"
"Okay," said Cristal, still unconvinced. "If you guys say so."
Jason slapped the old, musty book sitting on the table in front of them. "Awesome! Let's see what this bad boy has to say!" He pulled it toward him and flipped open to a random page. "Ooooooh, demons! That sounds intriguing."
"Keep looking," Brandon urged, looking over his shoulder. "We should find something really freaky."
"You know it, bro." Jason kept flipping through, muttering various bizarre phrases under his breath. "Oh. Oh, this is it. Guys, I've found it. There's not many details, but whatever this is, is specifically only to be used for a night like tonight - Halloween, on a blue moon. It's perfect! We have to!"
"Um, what? How can we do some mysterious spell out of an old book from your dead grandma's attic if we don't even know what happens?" Cristal's face was white.
"It's okay, Cris," Emily tried to comfort her, but Brandon interrupted by bursting out into laughter.
"Oh, my God, Cristal! It's fake! It's all a joke! If you don't like it, you can leave! God, you're such a nerd!"
"Hey, shut up, Brandon!" Emily snapped. "It's not Cristal's fault if she's superstitious! Give her a break!"
"Thanks, Emily," Cristal muttered, staring at the tablecloth.
"No problem, babe." Emily patted her on the shoulder. "But really, it is a joke. No worse than saying "Bloody Mary" three times in front of a mirror. You don't have to play if it scares you, but nothing's gonna happen, I promise."
Cristal balled her fists and steeled her nerves. "No. I'm fine. You know what? I'll even do the spell. Give me that." She snatched the book from Jason, spinning it around as it slid across the table. "We need a metal bowl, and a bunch of herbs."
"Now we're talking!" Brandon rubbed his palms together. "My mom's got an herb garden, what do we need?"
Cristal listed them out, and Brandon grabbed his coat and dashed out the door for his quest.
"And we need blood. It doesn't say whose, but it should be enough to write down this incantation thing."
Jason, returning with the bowl, set it down on the table and shrugged. "We can use mine, I don't care. How much we need? I'll get a knife."
"I don't know. A bit. Probably not much."
"Whatever works," Jason said, barely audible from his kitchen.
"What can I do, Cristal?" Emily asked.
"Oh." Cristal looked back down at the book and saw that there wasn't much left to do after this. "Uh, you can get maybe a paintbrush and some paper? You're the best artist here, you can paint the words on, okay?"
"I have to paint in Jason's blood? Gross. It's probably filled with the bacteria of all the nasty stuff he eats off the cafeteria floor for money." Emily wrinkled her nose, but her eyes were playful.
Cristal grinned back. "Sorry. Try not to touch it, and you should be okay."
"Got it. I'm gonna have to burn that paintbrush when I'm done." Emily wrapped an arm around Cristal's shoulders. "Thanks for playing along, Cris. This is gonna be fun, I swear."
Cristal squeezed back. "But not for Jason."
"But not for Jason," Emily echoed. Then she let go, and wandered off to find the supplies.
Jason returned, smaller bowl and knife in hand, just as Emily got out of view. "Somebody say my name?"
"Yeah, Emily and I were just saying how not fun it's gonna be for you. Because of the blood," Cristal explained.
Jason shrugged. "It's no biggie. I bust up my knuckles worse than this on the punching bag every week."
"Your knuckles?" Cristal echoed curiously.
"Yeah, that's where I was gonna cut. Hurts less than my palm, y'know?"
"Fair enough."
He lifted the knife. "Should I do it now?"
"I don't see why not."
He lifted the knife, and Cristal turned away. She could manage demon rituals, but she wasn't a fan of blood. Just then, Emily returned with her supplies, setting them down on the table.
"Ugh, Jason, how deep did you cut? That thing is pouring."
"I dunno. Figured the more the merrier, y'know?"
"That's for people, not your own blood. I could have made do with half that and it's still going!"
"Hmmph. It is what it is."
"Let me get some bandages," said Cristal, standing up abruptly. She left for the bathroom to do exactly that, and when she returned, hands full of medical supplies, Brandon had come back as well, knees scuffed and dirty, with various muddy plants scattered across the table. Jason had a bloody paper towel wrapped around his knuckles, and the small bowl was half full with his blood. Cristal handed him the supplies, then glared at the mud-spattered herbs. "These need to be washed."
"On it," said Brandon enthusiastically.
"Should I start painting?" Emily asked.
"Sure!" Cristal picked the book back up and set it in front of Emily, pointing out the few phrases of Latin she had to copy. She read the instructions a bit further over Emily's shoulder, and upon seeing it required them to burn the bloodied paper alongside the herbs, left to get matches. When she got back, Emily was half done with the writing, and Brandon was using a ladle to crush the freshly-washed herbs in the bowl. She surveyed the sight and smiled a little to herself, if only because this was the first time she'd spurred any number of her friends into action. Her hands shook, though, and she stuck them in her pockets to hide it. There was no turning back now. They'd probably never talk to her again if she tried to back out.
"Done!" Emily announced, holding up her handiwork to show Cristal.
"Awesome, good job! Brandon, those look sufficiently shredded. I think it's time to start." She took the paper and book from Emily, setting the first in the bowl and the second open on the table in front of her. "Apparently I have to recite this, so hopefully my Latin pronunciation is okay."
Cristal read it slowly, rhythmically, in a quiet, monotone voice, making an effort to be dramatic. As soon as she was done, she struck three matches on the box and dropped them all into the bowl at once. It caught quickly - much faster than she anticipated - and burst up inches from her face. Seconds later, the contents of the bowl was nothing but ash, and all the lights went out.
A chill went down every one of their spines.
"I'll check the circuit breaker," Jason said, uncertainly.
"There's no need to do that!" Brandon shouted. "It was her! She's a witch! What did you do, Witch, I'll kill you!"
"Cristal isn't a witch, it was everyone's game!" Emily yelled desperately.
"I just did what the book said," Cristal whispered shakily.
"I still think you're a witch," Brandon snapped, "but whatever. I'll go check the breaker with Jason."
Just then, the church bells tolled midnight a block away.
"Wait a second." Jason said, sounding genuinely scared now. "Didn't that already happen earlier?"
"Yeah, it did. It was like 2 AM the last time I checked." Emily pulled out her phone, its glow lighting up her face. "That can't be right. This says it's midnight."
"What?" Cristal furrowed her brows.
Emily tilted her phone towards Cristal, and sure enough, the display read 12:01.
Brandon shoved her out of the way to see, and his face contorted. "No. I know it's later than that. I remember texting my mom about her herbs at like 1:45." He pulled out his own phone and unlocked it, and made a strangled noise when he saw what popped up. "They're gone. My texts. Like I never sent 'em at all. What did you do?" He turned his fury back towards Cristal, slamming her into the nearest wall.
"I don't know," Cristal squeaked. "I was just playing along. Like you guys. I did what the book told me to. I swear!"
He lurched back, and Emily shoved him away with a huff. "Leave Cristal alone, you bully. It's not her fault. I'm sure this is just a mistake."
"My phone says it's midnight, too," said Jason nervously. "I don't think just a mistake could change the time on all our phones. And even if it was about daylight savings time, that only goes back one hour, and they wouldn't ring the church bells twice for that."
"Or cut the lights out," Emily muttered.
"So what now?" Cristal asked.
"Circuit breakers. You two start calling parents to let them know." Brandon declared, then stalked out the door, Jason close on his heels.
Cristal brought out her own phone, and saw that it, too, now read 12:04. She swiped it open, then pulled up her mom's contact. It went right to voicemail when she dialed, so she backed out and tried her dad. Voicemail.
She got voicemail again from all three of her grandparents, as well as her older brother and both her aunts.
Heart in her throat, she lowered the phone and looked slowly over to Emily, whose face mirrored her own terror.
"Voicemail," they both whispered at once.
Emily, stirring out of their frozen terror first, took five strides to the front door and shook it - but the handle wouldn't move. Cristal darted across the kitchen and living room to the sliding back door. Also stuck.
Jason returned from the basement, shaking his head at Emily, the first person he saw. "It was like new. Everything was fine. But nothing did anything when I flipped the switches. I don't know what happened."
A high scream rang through the house, far too close, cutting off too quick with a gurgled cry.
All the blood drained from Jason and Emily's face, and they bolted through the kitchen and living room to see a tall, darkened figure standing with a knife. Jason turned on his phone to light up the scene, revealing a blood-spattered Brandon standing over Cristal's immobile form on the floor.
Brandon's hands shook, and he dropped the knife. "I told you. It's her fault. She's a witch."
"Did you kill her?" Emily said, with a freakishly calm demeanor.
"Yes," Brandon replied, seeming equally calm everywhere besides his hands, visibly trembling.
Jason swore.
"I'll kill you too, Brandon. With God as my witness I will kill you."
"Okay," Brandon said, "that's fair. But can we at least see if things go normally now? I just want to know if I was right. Then you can kill me. I don't care."
Emily stared him down, her face a perfect void of emotion. "Fine. You have two hours. Until 2 AM passes. Then you're a dead man. Give me that knife."
Brandon picked it up off the floor and passed it over wordlessly.
"Jason, go get some rope."
Jason's eyes flick back to life, and he walks out of the room, calm as anything, and certainly in shock. He knew this, but he didn't really know how to deal with it. Nor did he know how to deal with the fact that he'd just seen his best friend kill one of his other best friends. So he was just going to listen to Emily, because at least she knew what she was doing.
When he returned to her with the rope, she took it with steady hands and pointed to an armchair. "Sit."
Brandon obeyed, and she tied him tightly - hands together, then feet to the legs, then back to the back. She finished by shoving the remaining length of rope into his mouth and tying it around his head, effectively gagging him.
When she was done, she surveyed her handiwork and then looked to both of the boys. "Okay, listen to me. We are in a time loop, yes? I think that's clear enough from the disappearing texts and the church bells. So if 2 AM comes around, turning back into midnight like before, and Cristal gets back up, you walk too, and you leave her and everyone else alone. If she doesn't and things continue after 2 AM, you die. Is that clear?"
A few lonely thoughts occured to Jason. "What if it goes back to midnight and she doesn't wake up?"
"Then he dies. Whatever else happens, if Cristal stays dead, he's dead too. Very simple."
"But what if you get caught?"
"I cannot express to you, Jason, exactly how much I no longer care about that anymore. When we have signals again, you can call 911 and report me yourself if you like."
"I don't want to do that, Emily."
"Then don't. I'm not about to put the phone into your hands."
"Okay. So what now?"
"Now we wait for 2, or the bells."
"Okay."
Brandon made a muffled noise of affirmation, nodding.
"So it's agreed." Emily sat down on the sofa across from Brandon, not five feet away from Cristal's immobile body. "We wait."
Jason sat, too. No one said anything, but the time seemed to pass quickly. Soon enough, Emily lit up her phone again, and showed it to the room. "1:56 in the morning. It's almost over."
"Or all over again," Jason murmured.
The last two minutes dragged on. All three waited with bated breath. Just when Jason sat up to call the continued passing of time ---
Bing, bong, bing, bong.
They checked their phones - midnight again.
They looked to Cristal.
But she stayed still.
The room was motionless.
Until Emily stood and plunged the kitchen knife into Brandon's gut in a single smooth move.
He tensed up and struggled against his bonds, crying out soundlessly, but she twisted the knife and pulled it out. He went limp, blood pouring to the carpet.
Jason stared at Emily, openmouthed. "I didn't think you'd actually go through with it."
Emily spat at Brandon's still-twitching feet. "He killed Cristal."
"I - yeah." Jason didn't know what to say, so he sat silently again, staring at the expanding pool of blood. "What now?"
"I don't know," Emily admitted. She stepped gingerly over Cristal's body and tried the back door again. "Still stuck."
"Maybe it'll be different this time. Maybe time will keep going. Now that the one who did the spell and the one who killed her are both dead."
"I just said the doors are still stuck."
"Yeah, because we're still in the loop." He checked his phone. "I mean, 12:14 already happened twice now. But maybe when 2 comes back around, it'll keep going. We could leave. You should run."
"I don't know, Jason," said Emily. "We don't even know what that spell was about. And we all helped somehow. Your blood was in it."
"Then, maybe me dying will fix everything. But you did the least, you just painted it. I think if either of us has a chance of getting out, you do. But I also just have a feeling that this is the last one."
"I don't know," Emily repeated. "Let's check the book?"
"That's a good idea, but we don't understand Latin. Nothing on that page said anything about what the spell does."
"We have Google Translate."
"No signal."
"No, I've got data." She showed him her phone. "I just don't think we can contact anyone. It blocks us."
"Try it, then."
Emily pulled it up, and typed "hola" into the text box. "Hello" appeared next to it, so she turned it to show Jason. "See?"
"Oh. Cool. Let's go, then."
They went into the kitchen together, where Emily sat down and carefully typed in the phrase she'd copied earlier. As soon as she hit "enter", though, the phone turned hotter than fire in her palm. She dropped it and it fell to the ground, shattering on impact. She swore and stomped on it, but it was still burning-hot even to her socked foot, making her swear more. Jason watched her in concern, and grabbed her hand to check for damage.
"It doesn't even look burned," he muttered.
"It FEELS burned, JASON," Emily yelled, pushing him away.
"Sorry! Did you catch any translation before it fell?"
"Of course not! It didn't even show anything!"
"Jesus, okay, sorry."
Emily rubbed her unburned palm grumpily, then she flicked her eyes back to Jason. "So what time is it now?"
He checked his phone. "Almost 1:30."
Emily scrunched up her face. "These times are all messed up. Like, even more than usual. Me typing that shouldn't have taken more than fifteen minutes. It must be part of the spell."
Jason shrugged. "Yeah. Don't know what to do about it, though."
"Don't know what to do about any of this," Emily whispered.
"Hey." He wrapped an arm around her shoulders."We'll figure something out."
"Like what?" Emily demanded. "Live alone in this house forever, our only company the two corpses in the living room?"
"I don't know, Emily! It just seemed like the right thing to say!"
"Well, it was wrong. You shouldn't have said anything."
"I'm sorry! I was just trying to help."
"It didn't work! Just leave me alone!"
"Fine, I will!"
"Fine!"
Jason stomped out of the room and up the stairs.
Emily started to cry.
A few moments later, the bells tolled again, signaling midnight, and Emily cried harder.
Then, a muffled thud came from upstairs, and her heart stopped.
She kicked back her chair and took the stairs four at a time, ending at the room she knew to be Jason's. Throwing it open, she was forced to take in the one scene she dreaded the most: her last friend, lifeless on the floor. She screamed and pounded on his chest, begging him to get up, but it was too late. His faintly glowing phone beside them had just two things on its almost all black screen - the time, 1:53, and a single word: DIE.
Emily sat back and sobbed. She picked up the phone and threw it across the room; it hit a wall, fell to the floor, and broke with a terrible smash.
She had no idea how long it took to stop crying, but when she did, she looked up -
- and saw that the phone had shattered a window.
Her mouth fell open, and she shot across the room to stick her head out the window - and it went! She could get out!
Her arms followed, then her torso, and finally after tugging one leg after another through, she was free. Traumatized and criminalized, but free. She could run far away, until her only memories of her former friends were faded, but fond.
She shimmied down the roof until she was far enough to let herself drop, and then she took off running, fast as she could. There was a section of woods just by Jason's house, if she made it there maybe she'd be able to escape.
She could see it, she got to the treeline, she stumbled and fell but it was okay because she was under the cover of the trees -
- and then, far away, she heard the church bells chime.
WHG Post Games Boat Heist Part 3
This is what happens during the night, at least for Zenith and Triel. What happens to Nesri will be a separate post! Tagging: @ratracechronicler (I don’t think this one has any of your characters but thanks all the same!), @maple-writes (also thanks for Asher!), and @pen-of-roses (also thanks for Lynn!)
Zenith
I was just hanging out in the room. Triel had left for her meeting with Snow. Cirrus and Rebecca had gone off after Nesri. She was probably doing something stupid. I was sitting by the door, just in case something happened.
And just as I thought that, someone pounded on the door. I tensed, slipped on my eyepatch so I wasn’t so recognizable, and opened the door a crack.
Lissa. I stayed tense, but she shook her head. “We’re not trying to capture you. We were watching the captured tributes to see if we could help them at all, but we caught wind that they were planning on escaping, and we were pretty sure you weren’t helping. So, Arque sent me to tell you.”
Shit. I glanced back at the others and back to her. Rowan didn’t look like they wanted any more adventure today. And Asher looked tired. “I’ll go stop them.”
Asher popped up. “Wait, I’ll come with you.”
I eyed him. He still looked tired, but who was I to tell him no? “Fine. Let’s go.”
Lissa led us to where the captured tributes were. While we walked, she glanced over at me. “When I left, the captured tributes were trying to cut out their shockers. We were helping so they wouldn’t hurt themselves too badly. But…” She grimaced. “I don’t think that will work. The Capitol knows you cut out your trackers. They won’t make the same mistake twice.”
Shit. They were going to hurt themselves? They were that desperate? Well, made sense. They didn’t believe we were here to save them. “We should hurry.”
Asher jogged to catch up to us, matching our pace at my shoulder. “They didn’t hurt themselves, did they?”
She shrugged. “I left before they could finish. They probably did hurt themselves, but Arque and Thast will make sure it’s not life threatening.”
Lissa stopped with a frown. No one was here. I tensed and glared at her, but she just picked up a scrap of paper on the floor. She handed it to me. It was a note in Arque’s crappy writing, made even more crappy by how hastily it was written: Went to the right side of the boat to help them “escape”.
Asher read it after I was done. “Already?” He looked up at us. “Do you know where they would have gone?”
Lissa nodded. “Somewhere where no one would notice. A small stretch on the back of the yacht where there’s no entertainment or lights.” She smiled a little. “Thanks for the suggestion earlier today, though. They’ll want something to help them swim probably, so the delay will help us catch up to them.”
What the hell was she talking about? I glanced between Lissa and Asher, but when neither of them were inclined to explain, I just headed off toward where Lissa had indicated.
We made it there, and Lynne and Lynn were whispering among themselves while Arque and Thast were pretending to be confused about the missing equipment. My eye twitched. Too dramatic. They probably knew something was up. We approached Lynn and Lynne, and they turned to us with glares.
Lynne crossed her arms. “What do you want? We’re not breaking any rules.”
Asher took a careful step forward. “I, I know you want to get out of here, but please just wait a little longer.”
“You, you were with Rowan?” Lynn asked.
Asher nodded. “We met before the games. They’re here too, and they’re safe.”
“Safe? When you’re all Peacekeepers?”
“What?” Asher blinked. “Oh, right.” He sighed, closing his eyes for a moment. “I know it doesn’t make sense, but we really aren’t Peacekeepers.”
I sighed. They wouldn’t believe us. And real Peacekeepers could come at any minute. I crossed my arms and adopted the posture of a trained soldier. “I have to ask that you return to your rooms.”
“Just for now, please.” Asher nodded, standing up taller and mimicking my posture, just not as imposing. Good try, though.
Lynne glared at us, and she also stood up straighter, looked more confident. “Why? We’re not breaking any rules. And we’re not required to be anywhere right now.”
I put a hand on my hip, having my other hand hover over where the gun would be on the Peacekeeper uniform. “The president requires it. Please, don’t struggle.”
Lynn crossed his arms, studying me, and Lynne glanced around, probably for my old team, but they had wisely disappeared. She cursed under her breath and glared at us. “Don’t you have a shred of yourselves left in there? Wouldn’t you want to defy the Capitol?”
Lynn placed a hand on her arm. “What happens if we refuse to go with you?”
I clicked my tongue. “The president has allowed us to use force, if needed. It would be…unfortunate if we had to do that.”
Lynn hummed. “And you haven’t already because…?” He turned and whispered to Lynne, but loud enough for us to hear. “Have the other Peacekeepers been this…considerate to you without the adoring audience?”
Oh, he wanted to play it like that? I sighed. “Fine. You don’t believe me?” I dashed forward and grabbed Lynne’s arms, pulling them behind her back. She cursed at me and tried to struggle, but I kept a tight hold of her. I eyed Lynn. “Is that considerate enough for you?”
Asher jumped when I moved, watching me with horror. But then he shook it off and stood by Lynn, in between us.
Lynn stared me down but glanced over at Lynne. “I’ll go with you if you let her go.”
That was obviously not going to actually happen as smoothly as I’d like, but I wasn’t going to upset them any more than I had to. I let go of her and nudged both of them forward. “Then let’s go.”
Lynn turned back to Asher specifically. Oh, not making eye contact at the person who just showed you up? Nice. “Alright let’s go.” He started walking, and I followed both of them. Asher glanced at me for a little bit before following me.
I eyed the bandages. Their plan probably didn’t work, but maybe I could learn a little about it. “So, what’s with those bandages? They’re suspiciously over your shockers.”
They glanced at each other, and Lynn spoke. “Accident.”
“Are you okay?” Asher leaned back to look at the bandage. “Is it a large wound? Do you need anything for it?”
Lynne eyed me. She still looked angry at me. “Don’t touch them. Someone else already took care of them.”
“We’re fine,” Lynn agreed, glancing over at Asher. “You know, Rowan likes a very specific tea. I used to tease them about the smell being too similar to a garden for me.”
Asher nodded, smiling. “I can see that, they do like their plants. And their tea.”
“I still don’t believe you’re Peacekeepers. But then I don’t really believe much of what Selene tells me anymore. Are you really trying to help?”
Asher nodded again. “We’re all here. There’s been a snag, but we’re trying.”
“Then why stop us?”
We just needed to get them back to their rooms. We had to convince them to stay. And being all nice wouldn’t help. I muttered something about not getting involved as Asher responded. “I don’t really understand it, but there’s something extra in your shockers.” He gestured toward the bandages. “There’s something affecting your perception, and we need a little longer to figure out how to stop it.”
Lynn hummed in response but didn’t say anything else.
We arrived at their rooms, and I nudged them toward their doors. “Now, don’t leave again until someone tells you to. If any of the Peacekeepers see you out again, they won’t be as nice as we were.”
“Right,” Lynn muttered. He went into his room.
Lynne just walked into her room, pointing a middle finger at me, but before she slammed the door closed, she flinched with a hiss of pain. The shockers were still working.
Asher sighed, shoulders slumping as soon as the door closed. “At least they stayed on board.”
I watched their doors a little longer. Hopefully, they wouldn’t try anything else before we could rescue them. “But the shockers are still working. That must not have worked.” I put a hand in my pocket, and my fingers brushed against a piece of paper. I pulled the paper out. It was another note: Cutting them out didn’t work. The machines are clinging to their muscles. Too difficult to pull out without professional help. Sorry. I handed it to Asher so he could read it too.
He looked disappointed when he finished reading it. “That’s not good. Although, as long as we can disable them, it’ll still be good enough for now, right?”
I nodded. We were lingering too long. “Let’s head back before anyone asks any questions.”
Triel
The dear president, of course, wasn’t where we had planned. He was trying to bail on me. Well, maybe it was a good thing that we weren’t rescuing tonight. I had a chance to make sure the president knew that I wouldn’t give up, so he would have to be at the designated spot tomorrow.
I stalked through the boat (yes, I’m going to spite his stupid face by calling his stupid yachts boats), and I found his stupid Peacekeepers hovering around him as he was talking to some other stupid rich person. I cut in between them, and the Peacekeepers jumped. I had gotten past them without letting them know.
I grinned at him. “President Snow! You can’t imagine how long it took to find you. Did you forget that we had an appointment at 10?” I pointedly looked at a clock that read 10:30.
The dear president grimaced, but before he could say anything, his rich conversation partner gasped. “You’re that fabulous reporter! Theria Stane! Everyone in the Capitol is gushing about your exclusive interviews with the stylists. They were so illuminating! I loved them!” She looked over at the dear president, who was grimacing even more. “Cori, how could you forget an appointment with such a prestigious reporter?”
He smiled, but he was not even trying to make it look genuine. “I’m sorry, my dear. How about we have that interview now?”
I sighed in fake despair. “Unfortunately, I had an interview with Caesar Flickerman himself.” I chuckled. “I just find it so funny that I’ll be interviewing an interviewer.” I winked at the dear president’s conversation partner, and she giggled. He was grimacing even more than last time when I looked back at him. “How about tomorrow around 3:00 PM? It will be before all the special events start.” (Thank you, Amy, for the schedule!) “We could meet on the upper deck.” Even a farther drop down to the water.
He was trapped between a rock and a hard place as his conversation partner nodded encouragement. She probably would be a better conversation partner than the dear president. And maybe she could give up some secrets with enough sweet talking…
The dear president sighed quietly. “As you wish, my dear. I will meet you on the upper deck tomorrow at 3:00 PM.”
His conversation partner grinned. “You won’t regret this, Cori!”
I turned to her with my best smile and held out my hand. “And I don’t regret this opportunity to meet, Miss…?”
She shook my hand with a smile playing on her lips. “Serai Innos. A pleasure.”
I winked at her. “Would you like to meet up for drinks later after my other interview? I think it would be illuminating.”
She laughed and nodded, and I walked off as the dear president watched me go, baffled.
*
So, the captured tributes attempted to escape, and we almost lost them. I had to have a few drinks (not anything that would get me drunk) before I went back to the room. I sat down heavily on the barstool, and after a few minutes, someone else sat down beside me. Nesri?
Nope. Serai was frowning over at me. Really, was she who she said she was? She leaned in close and hissed in my ear. “You almost blew my cover. Just trotting up like that and inserting yourself. What’s the big idea, Triel?”
I blinked. “Do I know you?”
She huffed. “Lira. I’m the one who owns the apartment you’ve been wrecking. And I was trying to get some information out of him, and you had to derail the conversation. I wasn’t able to get the information I wanted. You owe me a drink for that.”
I smiled. “Gladly. I would have already offered to buy your drink even without that obligation.” She ordered a drink and downed it in one gulp.
She sighed. “Shit. Now, I’ll have to cozy up to that slime all over again.”
“I’m sorry. But at least it was for a good cause. Thank you for helping me trap the dear president. It will be a sight tomorrow.”
“I’ll bet.” She smiled a little. “I do admire you for what you’re pulling off. Takes a lot of guts.”
I smiled. “Thanks.”
She downed another drink. “Well, I needed to get going two minutes ago. I just wanted to officially meet you. Good luck.” She left, and I stared after her before I downed my first and only drink and headed off to the room.
Steven’s Nightmare
(Yes, the title is unoriginal, but I couldn’t think of something better. One shot of Steven Universe Future, set after Prickly Pair. Also sorry for not adding this earlier: But trigger for Diamond Essances for a subsitute for drugs. If you don’t want to read something like that, read another fanfic.)
Steven growled as he stomped his way through the house. He was angry, he was upset, he could feel like he could explode. His mind thought back to cactus Steven to try and justify this rage, but he himself didn’t know exactly why he was angry. All he knew as this rage. The house was empty. ‘The gems are most likely off at Little Homeworld, fixing MY mistakes.’ His mind thought as he stepped on the teleporter. Light flashed around Steven as he floated away. The light dissipates as he finds himself in the Garden… Pink’s Garden. However, it wasn’t in ruins. The plants were still alive, the area was clean, and the structures were still in tack. With a swift movement, he began to walk away from the warp. He couldn’t care less why he was here or why the garden was in tack, he just needed someplace. Someplace where he could let out this ANGER! He soon felt a presence. He stopped and looked around, but nobody was there. He began to walk forward, when he suddenly noticed Spinel in front of him, surprising him. He should have been surprised that she was back looking like her rejuvenated form, but he was more annoyed at her than anything. “Hey, best buddy of mine! You look stressed, wanna play a good old round of juggling? OH! How about a game of Hide and Seek?” Spinel asked with a naïve innocence to her. Steven groaned in frustration and pinched the sides of his nose. “Spinel, I’m not in the mood to play a game. Just let me go to my special place and once I’m done, we can play,” He stated as if this was a normal occurrence. Spinel’s eyes sparkled. “Oh, can’t I at least go with you this time? I know you don’t want me to get hurt, but I promise not to stay too close. Besides, I’m your BEST FRIEND and yet I never get a chance to see what’s in your special place. I just want to see what you hide in there.” Spinel said in a kind of worried tone. Steven looked away then sighed. “Fine but promise me you won’t stand too close. I… I don’t want to hurt you.” Steven said as he looked at her. Spinel nodded and the two walked deeper into the garden. They twisted and turned on the path until they were a hand-shaped pedestal with the Diamond Insignia on it. The young Teen placed his hand on the machine and the area shocked. The land near them transformed and what’s looked to be an elevator appeared out the ground. The door opened and the two went inside.
“So… where is this thing taking us?” Spinel asked after a few seconds of waiting.
“Inside this asteroid, that way, I don’t hurt anyone. It was created by the Diamonds so I could… vent to myself without wrecking homeworld… (whispers to himself) again. (Louder voice.) Anyway, I’ve been using this area to invent things to make the Diamonds see what I’m capable of.” Steven said in a cold voice. Spinel ‘ooh’ed at this revelation. “Cool!” Spinel said. Suddenly the elevator stopped and the two exited. They had reached what looked to be a hallway with three fairly large-sized doors. There were three exactly, one on the left, one on the right, and one in the center. “It’s so big!” Spinel said in shock. Steven chuckled. “I’ll show you around once I get this rage out.” He said, heading towards the central door. Spinel quickly followed him. “Okoye Dokoye!” She agreed. They entered the room and it was large with another hand pedestal in the center. “Stay here. I’m about to do some damage.” Steven ordered her. Spinel nodded and stood perfectly still with a smile on her face as Steven walked towards the center. He placed his hand on the console. “Execute system routine, 9421, but this time, do not go towards the door nor the walls and only target me.” He ordered, then go of the console.
Suddenly four machines’ popped out of the ground that oddly looked like the same machine that attacked him and Connie way back when they first went to Rose’s secret armory. Spinel gasped in shock. The machines began firing volleys of electric balls towards Steven and he smirked. A dome of Diamonds appeared around him and bounced the projectiles back into the machines, causing them to explode. “WOOH! Go, Best Buddy!” Spinel yelled. Steven glared at her, and she zipped her lips. Then four ruby holograms appeared before Steven and then merged into one large ruby hologram. It roared and punched towards Steven. He laughed and put down the dome and formed punching bubbles on his hands. He dodged the punched and quickly used three strikes on the giant, the final one landing so hard, the holograms defuse. The ruby holograms get back up, roared, and rushed towards him. “Is that the best you got!” He yelled, then throws his shield at them. Two were sliced in half, causing the holograms to disappear. The other two still rush towards him, causing Steven to jump into the air and land behind them. “What the?” The holograms said in robotic confusion. Steven smirked and punched the two holograms with his boxing gloves again, causing them to poof into nothingness. Steven turned around and saw a large Jasper with the same gem style and placement as the one he knew. He growled as his anger began to boil, his body becomes engulfed in pink light. “Go get her!” Spinel yelled, hoping now was an appropriate time to cheer. Steven rushed towards her, but she dodges. She then jumps back and spins dashes towards him. Steven catches her punch. “Nice catch,” The hologram said, but it was Jasper’s voice, not a hologram’s.
“You should see me through!” He quipped back then threw her into the air. He punches her in the face, but she begins to laugh. Steven uses his shield to bounce his momentum and to keep hitting her. He does it repeatedly until he was above and yells. “STOP LAUGHING!” He yelled in anger and slammed his fists into her back. She crashes into the ground and gets back up. “Is that the best you got!” Jasper yelled. Steven growled and lands next to her. “UGH!” He held his head as his head began to buzz. “You can never beat me, weakling! You’re not a Diamond! You are not worthy to hold that gem! You’re not worthy of a colony!” Jasper mocked him. Suddenly he felt something snap inside of him and he let out a horrible, blood-curdling scream. The floor crakes underneath him, the room shakes horribly, a shock wave knocks the hologram over and winds to blow harshly on Spinel. Steven pants as he falls to his knees. He looks up and the hologram staggers up, and then falls over and disappears. Steven lets out a sigh of relief. ‘It’s…It’s over.’ He thought to himself as he returns to his natural color. He then looked at Spinel, who looked shocked, but the look quickly changed to one of happiness and excitement. “WOW! That. Was. AMAZING!” She yelled then rushed over to her friend and hugged him. He chuckled. “R-really? Y-you’re not scared of me doing all of… this?” He asked in utter bafflement as he looked at her. Spinel shocked her head. “Nope, although I do see why you wanted me to stay back. I could have gotten really hurt, especially with that weird shock wave thing. But seeing you attack those holograms, it was like I was watching something really, really cool!” Spinel said with enthusiasm. Steven chuckled. “You… you really think that?” He blushed from her complement. Spinel nodded.
“Yep ser dee. But I’ve never seen you do this before, is it a normal diamond thing? Do you go out on missions, using your super special powers to attack enemy bad guys? If so, why not use them as the holograms instead of images of our own kind?” Spinel questioned. Steven looked down in shame. “No Spinel, it’s not normal… At least, that’s what the other Diamonds tell me. They say that I should stay calm and collective… that I should only use my powers when necessary. Besides, I… I don’t go on missions. Diamonds don’t go out into battle, that’s… that’s not what we were made for.” Steven said.
“Then how come you have these powers if a Diamond isn’t meant for battle?” Spinel wondered, twisted her arm around in loops, twisting it to loop and scratch the top of her head. Steven sighed and held himself. “I… don’t know. The diamonds never tell me anything. They don’t trust me. They NEVER trust me with IMPORTANT STUFF!” Steven sneered, rage pouring out of his mouth. Spinel soon boops his nose. “Don’t worry, a dear old buddy of mine. Spinel is here to cheer you up! Why don’t we explore the other rooms? I don’t think there’s anything else here.” Spinel said as cleaner robots appear out of the walls and began to use green goo on the walls and floors to repair the cracks. Steven nodded and got up.
They exited out of the room and head to the right room, which would be the one on the left from the direction they had come from the elevator, and inside was an armory full of pink destabilizers, axes, scythes, swords, helmets, armor, and at the end, a work desk with drawers and a pink box. “Wow. What’s this place?” Spinel asked as she looked around. “An armory. Homeworld has a slew of their own for the quartz soldiers, but… well, eventually I will have my own army, so I decided to make my own armory here. I don’t want to rely on Blue, Yellow, and White for these items. Besides, just look at it. Isn’t it neat?” Steven said with glee. Spinel poked one of the scythe’s softer ends. “Isn’t this a little, much? I mean, you haven’t gotten your own army yet.” Spinel said. Steven clutched his fists. “I know, Spinel. Don’t remind me.” Steven said, anger in his tone. Spinel froze and whistled to try and ease the mood. Steven shocked his head and headed to the table. “Anyway, I want to show you something special. A device that I created! Kind of like how Yellow created the destabilizers.” Steven said as he grabbed the box.
“Yeah knows, it’s weird that White and Blue haven’t created stuff based on their powers yet.” Spinel wondered. Steven laughed. “That’s because they’re not as smart as Yellow and I.” Steven boasts, as he opened the box and grab a rod. He put the lid back on and turned towards Spinel. “Spinel make sure you stay back. Cause, this will blow your socks off.” Steven said with excitement. Spinel smiled and stepped a few feet back. “Okay, ready when you are!” She yelled. Steven smiled, but he looked demented as he pushed the button. Suddenly it transforms into a long scythe with pink energy bursting out. A familiar sight for both. “Oooooh! …What is it?” Spinel asked, not knowing or recognizing the weapon. Steven stared at it intensely. “I call it a rejuvenator. One swipe from this bad boy and any disobedient gem is reset to their original purpose. All their pesky memories are whipped clean. They… they’ll be back to normal. No messed-up minds… no… no more rebellions. They’ll be just how they used to be.” Steven said with a smile. He laughed, but it didn’t sound right. Spinel looked down. “No more happy memories.” Spinel said with worry. Steven blinked and looked at the weapon. Guilt filled his stomach as he turned off the device. “You right, Spinel. All their memories will be whipped, so that means all their good memories will be gone too.” Steven said, then an image of Volleyball entered his mind. He shocked the image away. “I didn’t realize that while I was creating this thing. I… I just wanted to get rid of the bad memories so badly, that I didn’t think about it. Unfortunately, I don’t know how to make this thing not remove the good memories. I’ll only use it as a last resort then. Besides, I won’t use this on you, Spiny. Only on the gems who try and hurt us.” Steven said with a warm smile. Spinel looked at Steven and smiled back. Steven put the rejuvenator back in the box, and they went to the final room.
They see a giant Pink injector with a clear solid pink gemstone top connected to tons of tubes, electronics, and a console. Below them was a hatchet so the injector could exit the room without needing to use the door. Inside the injector was a familiar glowing pink liquid, however, it was only half-way filled. “Wow! An injector! But… it doesn’t look like any of the ones you’ve shown me before.” Spinel said in confusion. Steven chuckled. “That’s because of this… This is my masterpiece. The thing that will make the Diamonds RESPECT me! The thing that will make EVERYONE respect me!” Steven said with a wicked smile. Spinel looked at him with wonder in her eyes. “SOOO… what’s different about this one? Also, it looks like there’s something inside, what is it?” Spinel asked as she twisted her fingers on her cheeks. Steven chuckled and walked up to the injector. “That pink stuff is a… special poison… It’s very toxic to organic life so I can’t have this thing near the garden, but once I find a good enough place to dump all this waste, I’ll put my oils into it to make gems! It’s controlled through a special voice command that I’ll tell once we are done and will be twice as fast as the ones at home. If I can perfect the device, we can improve the production of gem kind. More soldiers, more special gems like Sapphires, more gems for you and me to play with! We won’t be lonely anymore!” Steven said, then hugged Spinel, tears flowing down his eyes. Spinel's smile grew wide and wrapped her arms around Steven. “Yes! Yes! YES! Oh! I’m so glad you brought me here, Pink! Blue, Yellow, and White are going to be so proud! They’ll give you your own colony in no time!” Spinel yelled out loud. Steven laughed. “Yeah, my own… my own…” Steven began to say before her words dug into his head. “Colony?” He looked at her and then rubbed his eyes. “Yeah! You’ve been begging the Diamonds for so long. Is something wrong, Pink?” Spinel asked.
Steven stepped back in fear. “No… no. NO! I’m… I’m not her! I’m Steven! I’m Steven! I… I’m…” Steven looked at his hands, but they were covered in gloves. Soon realized that he WAS Pink Diamond. He… She clutched their head. “No. NO! I’m her! I’m not her! Stop making me see these memories!” Steven yelled, his voice coming out of this female form. Spinel was very scared. “Pink...” Spinel began to say. Steven glares at her. “DON’T CALL ME THAT! I’M NOT HER! I’M NOT MY MOM!” ‘He’ yelled, then holds ‘his’ head. Pain, anger, hatred, it was all building up again. It was getting harder and harder for ‘him’ to breathe. His body then flashed into Rose Quartz. “Pink, is something wrong? You can tell me.” Spinel said as she reached out to touch the ‘boy’. ‘He’ growled and slapped her hand away. “Don’t touch me!” ‘He’ yelled. Spinel stepped back as tears formed in her eyes, causing Steven flashback into reality as his body becomes his own again. “Spinel, I’m…” He began to say in guilt, reaching out for her, but she soon turned away and ran. “Spinel!” He called out but she already left the room. Steven held his head. “UGH! What’s wrong with me!?” He asked himself, however, there was no reply.
The boy opened his eyes. Maybe he could catch up with her and apologize. But he soon realized that the whole area had gone way, the injector was gone, and all he could see was an endless landscape with black skies. Suddenly he heard a piano song playing in the background, it was complex and full of hard cords. “Huh?” He let out as he looked around. He soon saw Bluebird, Mean Lapis, Jasper, and… Nice Lapis in a group? They were looking away from him. Steven was very confused. Why was ‘Nice’ Lapis here? Did Lapis’ threat not get to her? Were their attempts to reach her failed and she’s back with Mean Lapis? Why were those two with Bluebird Azurite and Jasper? Why were Jasper and Bluebird together? His head was now pounding. “Hahahaha!” They laughed as if they were mocking his pain. “Oh, my Stars. You are not going to believe what I heard about Pink Diamond’s son.” Jasper said to the others. He rushed towards them and got ahead of them. He was about question them when he saw their faces. The group had glowing moths, gems, and eyes. Steven froze up. “Pink Diamond’s Son? Are you kidding me?” Bluebird questioned the others. The twin Lapis laughed. “I know. It’s like he thinks he’s the savior of gem kind.” ‘Nice’ Lapis said in a mocking tone. Bluebird laughed alongside them. It was like they didn’t even notice he was standing right in front of them. The young boy gritted his teeth and covered his ears. “He is SUCH a jerk!” Mean Lapis said. Bluebird nodded. “Yeah! He is SO annoying! I don’t see how ANYONE could follow him!” Bluebird questioned.
“From his hair to his sandals, that brat thinks he can boss us around!” Mean Lapis said in a condescending attitude. A pink bubble formed around Steven to try and block off the noise, but it did nothing. “Pink Diamond deserves SO much better than some weak, pathetic kid who needs FUSION to stand against us!” Jasper stated, the words digging into Steven’s head. He could feel his body was on fire and the pain was excruciating. “I heard he needs to control humans and gems in order to feel anything. He doesn’t even know what a gem likes.” ‘Nice’ Lapis said. Jasper stood in front of them. “Wait, wait, wait. I heard he got fired from that School he was running.” Jasper said with confidence. The Lapis twins and Bluebird gasped in shock. “No way!” Bluebird gasped. Mean Lapis laughed. “Yeah! And I heard he broke his mom’s Pearl! What kind of lunatic is this kid?” Mean Lapis asked. Steven's body was soon engulfed in pink light. He knew these were lies, but each one dug into him like a dagger. “I heard he’s no longer a couple with his girlfriend, AGAIN! That boy can’t connect to anyone, let alone his ‘best friend’.” Bluebird said. Those words shattered Steven’s heart. ‘No…NO! Connie… Connie loves me. I…I didn’t… I’m not…’ His head tried to process what was going on.
“I heard he turns Pink now and he screams a LOT!” Jasper said. Then the group laughed. Steven couldn’t hold it in anymore. “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!” He screamed, the floor under him becoming one giant crater as pink shock ways dispel the images of those gems and his body becomes engulfed in rage. The boy wakes up in his bed; however, their laughter still filled the room. The pain, the rage, it had not left him. All he could think of was ‘I need to find something to soothe this pain’. “Over and over and over and over and over and over. OVER and OVER and OVER and Over and OVER and OVER. Over and Over and OVER AND OVER and over and over and over and over AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER. ANDOVERANDOVER! YEHAHAHA!” Steven sang/screamed as he got out of his room. He wasn’t exactly sure where he was going, but he had to get to that place. His voice became softer as he walked through the main area of the house. The gems weren’t there, and he was glad for that. He goes into the kitchen and grabs a straw, stuffing it into his coat pocket. He enters the bathroom and walked over to the sink. He looked at his reflection as the last part of his ‘song’ was playing. He opened the cabinets and saw the three bottles of Diamond essences and an empty cup for brushing his teeth. His mind went blank as he grabbed and opened the bottles. He poured some of each bottle into the container and for the final touch, put his finger into his mouth and then his spit into the ‘drink’. The four liquids let out a soft, soothing sound as they mixed. He picked up the cup and pulled out a straw out of his jacket. He then placed the straw into the container, but instead of his mouth to ingest the strange concoction, he stuck the straw into his nose and snorted the liquid inside. He let out a sigh of relief as all his pain disappeared.
The young boy put the cup down and then realized what he had done. “Wh-what was that? Why? Why did I do that?” He questioned himself. A part of him was wondering why he had to use his nose in order to ingest the liquid, meanwhile, another part of himself was just questioning why he did this to begin with. But then, he noticed something. The pain, the laughing, the fire… it was gone. His mind… was at peace again. He pinched himself to make sure he was awake, and… he was. He put the caps back on the bottles, cleaned out the cup, and placed the items back into the mirror. He looked at himself then held his head in shame.
“Is this what my life has become? Am I… like those corrupted gems? I’m not broken. I… I just needed something to soothe me.” He asked himself before shutting that thought down. He thought back to his childhood. He thought back to having fun with Lars, Sadie, Onion, the Cool kids, Connie… His mind flashed in fear as he remembered what one of the gems said. He shocked his head. “No. Connie and I are still close. We’re still friends! They were just LYING!” Steven told himself. He breathed in and then out. “Everything’s going to be fine. I’m fine. I’ll figure myself soon enough. I… I know I will.” He looked at the mirror, whipped his nose just in case some of the liquid was coming out, then said. “Because I’m Steven Quartz Universe.”
(For those who were wondering, the part with Jasper, Bluebird, the Lapis twins, Steven’s meltdown/consumption of the diamond oils is based on Zach Callison’s “Franticity (interlude i)”. The part about Spinel’s injector and the hidden base in the asteroid is base off of AJ Universe’s Theory. Link to Theory: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zURqk_WYO1w. I hope you liked the fic.)
Hey, nobody asked for it, but I did the entire NSFW alphabet for Zelda because I could and here it is on your dash.
Under 18 don’t interact I’ll die
Anyway horny under the cut
[A] Aftercare
So here’s the thing about Zelda: she’s got the stamina of someone twice her size. No matter what role her partner takes/she takes, unless she has been completely worn out, she’ll take care of the cleanup/
Her favorite way to relax with her partner afterwards (or between rounds, if they have the energy) is with their head on her chest, so she can wrap her arms around them and run her fingers through their hair. Especially so if their hair is longer - she’ll play with it until she passes out, hand still half woven into the hair at the nape of their neck.
Sometimes, if she’s really into her partner, she’ll weave illusions for them. The ceiling of her room is enchanted, done just so to mirror the stars outside, but she’ll add her own magic to the enchantment so she can pull the stars down to her level. The constellations coalesce, tiny strands of light dancing between her fingers and down her arms, letting her manipulate them into creatures from everywhere between the depths of the sea and the highest mountain’s peak.
[B] Body Part (their favorite of theirs & their partner)
On herself - she likes her hips. Some of it is utility - balancing a basket is easy between her hand and hip and it’s convenient - and it’s the natural place her hands fall when she’s thinking or talking. But they’re also a good place to squeeze, with just enough softness to her to make it comfortable no matter why you’re clutching her hips.
On her partner - Zelda enjoys people’s hands. Not only for the pleasure they can provide, but also for the stories a person’s hands tell. She’ll take in the scars, the curves, the lines, whether your nails are manicured and well cared for or rough with ages of physical labor. No matter what, she’ll bring their hands to her lips, press a kiss to their knuckles and smile as she gives them a squeeze.
Also, if she’s bottoming and her partner (equipped with a strap or nature’s strap) holds her hand as they’re lining up? Oh my god, she fuckin’ dead
[C] Cum (anything to do with it)
She’s kinda neutral on this one? She doesn’t go wild for it but she doesn’t hate it
Please don’t cum on her face, that will have her nope out of the situation so fast (unless you’re afab in which the answer is please do she’ll feel like she did good)
Amab, just warn her and she’ll swallow instead
And if you want to cum on her, ask, because that’s not always something she’s into anyway. That has weird marking connotations for her.
She’s more pleased to know that she’s the one who made you feel that good rather than seeing the cum itself
As for her, she eats a lot of fruit, so hers ends up tasting sweet above all else, so if you’re not a fan tough shit because she won’t stop eating her fruit
[D] Dirty Secret
Really wishes someone would just drag her into a private space, pin her up against the wall, and take her right there. Clothing removed beyond the necessary is optional.
Like...full legs thrown over her partner’s arms, hips slapping together, having to bite down on her hand to keep from alerting anyone that she’s being absolutely railed in the shop’s backroom while loving every second of it.
She’s normally a ‘soft and slow’ person but that’s been one of her fantasies for a long time and she’s never felt comfortable enough with a partner to ask them to do that
Zelda, you’re drooling, get it together this is only the fourth letter
[E] Experience
Not wildly experienced. I’d say, in any timeline, she’s only had maybe two partners that got to a point of sexual encounter. It’s not that she’s opposed to casual flings (she’s had one or two), she just doesn’t always click with people, and she needs that connection to feel attracted enough to engage in a sexual relationship of any kind.
[F] Favorite Position
Lotus, for sure
She likes riding/being on top but she really generally enjoys the connection of being able to see her partner, kiss them as much as she wants, press her forehead against theirs
But also she’s up for smothering someone in kisses while giggling if they squeeze her sides in a weird way that makes her feel ticklish and that’s easiest to do when you can face your partner
[G] Goofy (are they serious or humorous in bed)
Definitely goofy. She’ll laugh it off when bodies make a weird noise, crack jokes, and bonus points if you dish it back.
Sex for her is about having a good time, and not just the pleasure aspect of it.
If you’re serious in bed go away her four-poster is for lighthearted sex only
[H] Hair
Definitely keeps things trimmed neatly, because she can’t stand the feeling of it getting long, nor can she even begin to tolerate the feeling of hair growing back after shaving it all off. She’s done that, she regretted it deeply.
A little lighter than the hair on her head, and let’s be real she probably oils it because she likes being generally soft and also prepared for a hypothetical encounter
[I] Intimacy
Intimacy comes easier to her if you reciprocate, obviously
Spread across the act, from foreplay to aftercare
Lots of gentle touches and soft words of praise
Feels most connected to someone during sex the more intertwined with them she is - hence why she likes the Lotus position. It’s easy to see them, watch their pleasure, press gentle kisses to their lips and face and smooth back their hair
In a relationship, it’s the most intense way she can show her care for her partner, given that she’s already quite physical
Please cuddle her after she just has so much love in her body for her partner and needs to express it
[J] Jack - off (masturbation hc)
Zelda usually has trouble getting off on her own, so this isn’t something she tries often, but her most successful effort involved a rather potent aphrodisiac and a dildo
With those + her fingers for clitoral stimulation? That’s probably the only time she successfully reached orgasm on her own
Which ties into her biggest kink/preference...
[K] Kink
Overstimulation.
Since she can’t often climax on her own, and if her partner is willing, she’ll go until she drops
Especially with the combo of g-spot and clitoral stimulation, she’d die and go to heaven
Prefers to be
Laid out beside her partner so she can kiss them with their hand between her thighs
Straddling their face and grabbing something, be it the headboard or some fixture on the wall
Or laying back on the bed, hands buried in her partner’s hair and her thighs hitched over their shoulder
Do not recommend a sixty-nine if you’re overstimulating her because she will get so into pushing her hips into your face she’ll kinda forget to reciprocate
[L] Location
Prefers to be somewhere private and comfortable, which usually means her home. Otherwise, she is content to have sex involving any surface in her house.
Except for the shop display case, please don’t make her polish that thing more than she has to she’ll be so salty afterwards
[M] Motivation (turn ons etc)
Intelligence (big brain sexy)
Seeing someone blush
A hand on the small of her back or on her knee
Idle fingers tracing patterns on her thighs, innocently or not so
Someone she’s already attracted to smelling absolutely delectable
Kisses on the inside of her wrist will really get her
So will kissing her freckles
[N] NO (turn offs, deal breakers, things they wont do ever etc)
Zelda’s only hard no is public sex, because she’s too noisy, but she’s willing to try almost anything at least once
She’s not into receiving pain (save for like, a smack on the ass/a bite/a hickey/etc) and not really into choking (also receiving) but just about anything else is fair game
[O] Orgasm Denial (how do they do it, do they like it done to them)
100% willing to give
Prefers oral as her tool of choice, but will alternate between mouth and hands to offer kisses as her partner settles down
Never cruel about it, always willing to relent if you use your safe word or ask her to let you cum
Really, really doesn’t like receiving
She doesn’t get to get off on her own and she’s not gonna deny herself guaranteed pleasure if she can help it
Will be a no unless she’s been with you long enough to know you won’t leave her high and dry
[P] Pace
Usually prefers softer and slower sex, mostly because she likes taking her time. However, if you’ve been teasing her all day? She will have you pinned to the door of your place or hers before it really has time to shut.
[Q] Quickie (where, how often, do they like them)
Likes them, but has to be in the mood for them
She doesn’t really like feeling rushed when trying to enjoy herself and make sure her partner is too
However, a promise of a more thorough round later usually is enough to placate her
[R] Risk (experiments, do they like pushing themselves/their s/o)
She’ll try anything once, but don’t spring it on her in the middle of the act. She’d rather sit down with her partner and talk about it, maybe do some research, give her time to understand the best way to go about it and what they need to do it properly. She’s not really spur of the moment.
However, positions? That she’ll try in a heartbeat. If Zelda could be described by one word, it would be curious.
[S] Stamina
Lots of stamina. Faster sex wears her out more, so her preferred slower pace is part of it, but she just generally has a lot of energy. Could go multiple rounds, and her partner’s recovery time just extends her stamina a bit more.
Really shouldn’t have this much stamina but part of it comes from a lot of time doing physical work in the shop/her garden so whoops
Cold showers have been a useful tool when she just can’t settle down
[T] Toys (do they own any, do they use them, how often, where)
She has a few different styles of dildos and vibrators that she’s tried to see if she could find something for her that works, but nothing really does, so they’re all shoved in a box under her bed.
Are aphrodisiacs applicable? Because she absolutely has and will experiment on her own with them, otherwise their involvement is up to her partner
[U] Unfair (how do they tease)
Really dependent on her partner and what she knows gets them going
Generally lots of subtle, under the table touches that could possibly be construed as a mishap
At least until she squeezes your thigh or skims her fingers far too high up for it to possibly be a mistake at all
[V] Volume (how loud, what do they sound like, what sounds they make)
Very pretty sounds. She won’t get vocal unless her partner explicitly tells her it’s okay, and until then she’ll bite her hand or her lip to keep quiet.
Not vulgar when she speaks during it - kinda polite, actually, paired with sighs of delight if you oblige any requests she makes (see below for examples if you desire)
“May I touch you here?”
“What are you doing? I can’t kiss you properly if - oh. Oh. No, please, keep going, I -” (cue some mild incoherent babble)
“Please, please, more”
“Yes, hah, right there - oh!”
[W] Wild Card (random NSFW hc)
She broke a headboard one time while riding someone’s face (grabbing onto it) and she’s never been able to look at one the same since
Sometimes in her post-overstimulated orgasm headspace she’ll thank her partner a couple times in this dreamy little voice and kiss the closest part of them she can reach without moving
If you’re overstimulating her, especially if you’ve been at it for a little bit, she’ll start to speak in her native dialect (Neviv/Nevivonic/whatever you hc Julian and Portia to speak. I believe it’s Russian sue me) \If you happen to speak it, she might just cum then and there
[X] X - ray (what do they have going on under their clothes)
Usually doesn’t end up with matching undergarments but if she does you know she wants to get laid
Lots of lacy underthings and thin bralettes because full bras are The Devil, typically bright colors for fun
If she’s feeling really saucy, she’ll go with a full bralette/panties/garter belt/stockings combo just to really show off for her partner once the outer layers come off
Usually she just ends up laying around her house in nothing but her panties and knee socks that match in no other way but height and texture
She has a near perfect heart shaped birthmark, right where her inner left thigh meets her pelvis. She likes it, but teasing her about it or kissing it will make her both melt and go cherry red.
Fun fact: if you leave a hickey anywhere near it, that’ll get her going like nobody’s business
[Y] Yearning (how often to they think of sex, how long can they go without it etc)
She can go without it for a while, but she’s got a high sex drive, so she doesn’t want to
Sex really only comes to Zelda’s mind when her partner does something that really gets to her (see Motivations)
Willing to Yearn if she’s not sure the sexual feelings are reciprocated
[Z] Zzz (how quickly do they fall asleep, do they snuggle, etc)
Very affectionate and very cuddly. Catch her with her forehead pressed to her partner’s, giggling a little as she rubs her nose against theirs, smiling into kisses and burying her face in their hair as she lets her hands wander idly.
However, unless you’ve totally worn her out, don’t expect her to fall asleep right away.
One time she cleaned the whole shop after masturbating at like four AM and she’s never gotten it that clean again
Emilia Clarke interview: the Game of Thrones star on leaving Westeros behind to tackle the West End
Clarke, who now stars in Chekhov’s The Seagull, tells Louis Wise that the HBO fantasy series made her feel like a ‘small cog in a big machine’
The Times: Emilia Clarke says she views herself primarily as a stage actress, which is a little weird when you consider that she has only appeared in one play professionally before, and it was an absolute turkey. Or, as the 33-year-old star of Game of Thrones says, in her jolly British way, it was “terrible, awful, awful! Bad! That was a bad show!” The piece was Breakfast at Tiffany’s on Broadway in 2013, and it’s safe to say Clarke’s Holly Golightly did not enchant. “I’ll never forget, someone said to me after press night the only thing they liked was the cat.”
If Clarke relays this with surprising good humour, this is part temperament, part experience. For one thing, in person she is relentlessly chipper and pukka. Whereas on HBO’s mega-fantasy series Game of Thrones, she grew in stature as Daenerys Targaryen, a still, dignified stateswoman (until that end), in real life she is a goofy motormouth chatterbox, always eager to catch the joke at her expense. And she is no stranger to what we shall politely call “the mixed review”. She has known some drubbings, whether for that Broadway show, or films such as Last Christmas or Terminator Genisys, or indeed the final series of GoT, which — euphemism alert! — didn’t quite turn out the way everybody wanted.
Luckily she never reads reviews. “Because if it’s really, really good, someone will tell you. And if it’s really, really bad — some f***** will tell you.”
We are meeting today, though, at a rehearsal space in south London, because she is chucking herself back into the fray. For only her second stage appearance, Clarke is going straight into the West End, in Chekhov’s The Seagull, and taking on the prestigious role of Nina. If she is nervous, she’s handling it in the usual way, which is to say with huge blasts of good cheer.
Two clichés about meeting starsis that they are a) smaller than you thought, but b) their features are stronger than expected. Both are true of Clarke. She is tiny, proper Kylie-tiny, nicely decked out in a gauzy beige-cream knit, some fashionably frayed jeans and pointy, well-worn white cowboy boots. Yet her eyes and grin look extra big: if she stays still, she’s a dainty doll, but as soon as she moves it’s Looney Tunes. To be clear, she never stays still.
This energy feels helpful, as we have a lot to pack in. After all, Clarke’s past decade has been particularly wild. Not only did she rocket suddenly to fame in GoT (until then, her only screen credit was an episode of Doctors), she also lost her father to cancer in 2016 and, as she revealed in 2019, had suffered a sequence of brain haemorrhages in her early twenties, just as the madness of GoT was kicking off.
In private, she experienced various exhausting surgeries at the same time as becoming one of pop culture’s favourite mascots, scrutinised relentlessly on a moral, artistic and very physical level. She recalls being in hospital recovering from an operation and picking up a newspaper. “I was, like, ‘I’m going to see if I can read it,’” she says. “And I was, like, ‘Oh my God, there’s a review of the show. And, oh God, they are just talking about how fat my arse is.’”(Which is the last review she read.)
All of which brings us to the elephant, or dragon, in the room. Over seven seasons, Daenerys, aka Khaleesi, Mother of Dragons, had one hell of an arc, going from weak dynastic pawnto all-conquering queen, a kind of Catherine the Great with sub-Barbarella hair. And then, oops! Daenerys, thrilled at almost achieving her goal of ruling the Seven Kingdoms, lost the plot, turned into a psychotic dead-eyed tyrant, massacring a whole city and essentially going the full Pol Pot. She was then abruptly bumped off by her lover-cum-nephew, Jon Snow, and a worldwide fanbase stopped and went: what?
For Clarke, it had been a hard secret to keep — she had known the ending long in advance. She admits she is still processing it all.
“When the show did end, it was like coming out of a bunker. Everything felt really strange. Then obviously for it to have the backlash it did …” Did she expect it? She slows down, a rare occurrence. “I knew how I felt when I first read it, and I tried, at every turn, not to consider too much what other people might say, but I did always consider what the fans might think — because we did it for them, and they were the ones who made us successful, so … it’s just polite, isn’t it?”
It’s clear Clarke is caught between her close friendship with the series’ creators, David Benioff and DB Weiss, and her deep awareness of what most fans wanted. In fact, she first suggests that it’s the news wot done it.
“I do think that the global temperature, how much horrific news there is consistently, goes a way to explain the enormity of the fans’ outrage,” she argues. “Because people are going, finally, here’s something I can actually see and understand and get some control back over … and then when that turns, and you don’t like what they’ve done …”
Hmm. It’s a nice theory, but with Daenerys we were just denied a happy ending, right? She nods quietly. “Yeah.” So did not getting that also make her sad? She tries to explain that “as an actor” it was actually all “a gift”, but eventually the tornado of diplomacy peters out. “Yeah, I felt for her. I really felt for her. And yeah, was I annoyed that Jon Snow didn’t have to deal with something?” She lets us out an exasperated laugh. “He got away with murder — literally.”
She also eventually agrees with the critique that the final season condensed far too much in far too little time (“We could have spun it out for a little longer”) and that it could simply have had more dialogue. “It was all about the set pieces,” she agrees. “I think the sensational nature of the show was, possibly, given a huge amount of airtime because that’s what makes sense.”
Is she at least happy it ended when it did? “I mean, ‘happy’ is a funny word. It’s a strong word. Again, the show was so big. I was a small cog in a very, very, very big machine …”
What she means, though, is that she actually liked this. The show provided a routine, a family, something to fall back on every year; it also gave her experience. “I very much feel my career is something that’s happened to me, as opposed to the other way around,” she says. But she can see that being a cog has its limits, as doesforever having to cater to fans and, yes, to the press. “Doing a show so many people had opinions about doesn’t serve your creativity on any level.”
All of which explains why she is doing this Seagull with Jamie Lloyd, the director who just landed raves for his Cyrano with James McAvoy. And, yes, although she knows it’s “hilarious”, she somehow does “identify closer with theatre”. This is mostly to do with her dad, who was a theatre engineer; her mother is a vice-president in marketing for a management consultancy firm. Clarke and her brother had an idyllic-sounding childhood in Oxfordshire. Inspired by her father’s job, she always wanted to be an actress, apparently from the age of three. “I think of him whenever I’m walking through the West End,” she says. “My dad is everywhere in the theatre, 100%.”
She says this happily; I get the impression she hasn’t finished grieving, she’s just moved on to a better, celebratory phase. How would he feel about her playing Nina? “I think he would be nervous for me,” she says with a chuckle. It is, she knows, a big role: Nina, the aspiring actress whose dreams of fame are dashed, but who plugs away regardless. “I was never your Nina at drama school, that’s for sure,” says Clarke. “I wasn’t really a favourite [there], at all.”
Instead, she got parts like Jewish grannies, or “a down-and-out, pissed-off, washed-up prostitute”. But did she always want to be Nina or Juliet? “Well, of course I did. Oh my God, yeah. So I’m in no doubt there’s still some of that in me where I’m like: ‘Oh my God, guys, check it out! Finally she got there.’”
Clarke does like to cast herself as an underdog, although, thankfully, she does seem mostly to be aware that she is coming from a place of privilege. By the end of GoT she was reportedly paid $500,000 an episode. Is money a concern any more? “I am careful,” she says. “I’m a lot more careful now than I was.” She has a lovely house in north London with a bar in the garden. She can pick jobs for their artistic content first and foremost (“I want to work with an auteur!”). So yes, she knows she has it good, which is why she waited several years before revealing her brain trauma.
“I didn’t want to turn it into this celebrity sob story. I didn’t want people’s pity or ‘Oh, poor little rich girl, your successful life ain’t good enough?’” She is now happy she did it. “It’s done a huge amount of healing for me, being able to open up about it.” Her health status is “beautiful” now. “I was match-fit six weeks after the second surgery [in 2013],” she clarifies. “But mentally …”
On the other end of the spectrum, her fame has made something else hard: dating. “I am single right now …” She says with a smile. “Dating in this industry is interesting. I have a lot of funny anecdotes, a lot of stuff I can say at a fun dinner.” She was last seen in 2018 with a film director, and before that she was linked to Seth MacFarlane and James Franco. Does she mostly date fellow actors, because that’s how the industry works? “I was, and now I’m not,” she says — more smiles.
“I mean, I wouldn’t say I’ve completely sworn off them, but I do think actor relationships that are successful are few and far between, and you have to have a ton of trust.” Now and then her friends tell her to try Raya, the dating app that is supposedly for more exclusive celeb types. When she looks at it, though, “it’s just models. What am I going to do there?”
In short, everything about Clarke’s life is still monumentally weird, but she is doing a good job of pretending it’s not. After the play, she has “any one of nine projects that could go at the end of this year, and I have no idea which one will win”. A lot, she announces, are “dark”. Would she do fantasy again? “I think, if I did, it would be me having a giggle,” she says. I take this to mean her doing a send-up, a kind of Extras take on GoT, but no: “I want to do something absolutely stupid and silly, like, you know, The Avengers or whatever. Something where I got to have a giggle with mates.”
I’ve never thought of the Marvel mega-franchise as a downtime laff with pals, but that’s the level Clarke is operating on. I suppose it’s a pretty good happy ending.
Queen of the Red Sea: Beyond the Sea and Oceans
Gulper Bay was one of the biggest hotspots for pirate activity. A true wonderland for pirates, with trade able to be achieved in safety. Well, for the most part.
A bar fight broke out in good fun, a man flying across the floor. Landing at a Gerudo’s feet, he only saw a foot smack him in the face. The young woman laughed, and the bar gained a hardy laugh with her.
Captain Adda was the chieftain of the greatest band of Gerudo Pirates, hailing from the Great Bay of Termina. She was here today to let her crew enjoy a fun night after finding a huge cache of ancient jewels by fluke. Her real objective was a much greater treasure found in this sea. “Drinks for the man who can kick THAT guy’s ass!”
The poor large man got tackled by a bunch of other drunk men. Adda loved causing chaos here and there. Gerudo Pirates were getting drunk, trying to find suitable mates for the night. Wasn’t hard, as Gerudo were known to be exotic and rare, and the hormones of a man could easily be swayed. Adda kept away from any drink, at least for the moment. She wanted to be sober when she found her Voe.
Her first mate, a woman in big iron knuckle armour groaned in annoyance. “I hate this place. It stinks like piss.”
“Could be your attitude towards having fun. I’m ordering you to relax.”
“It’s my job to keep you safe Captain.”
“No Scarlet. Your job is one of three things. Find a guy to put a baby into you, find a buyer for all the loot we acquired, or three, get out of that heavy suit and get wasted on all the liquor here. Now go. You’re a buzzkill around me.”
Her bodyguard sighed and left her Captain to her own devices.
Captain Corsaire was in Gulper Bay to sell most of the loot he robbed from one of Danjur's cargo ships. After selling what he could, the pirate captain would then take the money and give it to his crew's family members and others in the kingdom who needed it more than he did. True, he did keep some for ship repairs and ammo, basic necessities as well, but most of the time, he kept very little for himself. His crew all knew his mission and were perfectly fine with being on the giving end instead of the receiving. After all, he had pulled all of them out of horrible situations and saw Corsaire as family. Tonight, he was treating his men to delicious tavern food, a game of darts, and a pint or two of the best beer of the seas.
"Cap'n," Rat approached Corsaire with some money earned by gambling on darts. Mojo and Juju never lost a game at darts, and to this day, still held their record. "You think we could use this to buy Seer some new boots? The ones he has are looking a little worn."
"Anyone else need anything?" Corsaire asked his quartermaster. "I think we've already stocked the kitchen."
"Acrobat's crutches have seen better days."
"All right, get him some new ones."
"We still have plenty leftover. Could buy your sisters something nice?"
"Nah, save it for the orphanage down the road." Corsaire took a sip of his drink. "Annie and Bonnie would rather have new seeds for their garden, I know how they are."
Adda noticed the freak with four arms first. That got her attention of the crew, lead by a scruffy looking rogue. Perhaps she’d test him out. Walking over she sat beside them with a devilish smile. “Hello boys. I don’t think I’ve seen you around here.”
"I don't reckon I've a-seen you either, miss." Rat was the utmost gentleman to women, even if that particular woman was a pirate. "Enjoying the bar?"
Pockets caught Adda staring and promptly blushed, turning his attention to Acrobat and insisting on a game of pool. The rigger saw his friend's problem, and entertained the notion of playing pool. Acrobat was painfully shy with women, considering he had four arms instead of the usual two. That, and he was a giant of a man, not many were bigger than him.
Corsaire, however, was not interested in Adda's playful nature and continued to write down the divisions of the loot in his small notebook.
“Thank you.” Adda didn’t like that Corsaire ignored her, so she decided to be a little playful. Turning her attention to Rat she tipped her hat. “You the Captain here? Look like a Captain. Tall, muscular, getting the deck scrubber to write out your notes.”
"No, Corsaire is the captain, I's the quartermaster."
"I don't need any of my brothers to write for me, especially considering that Seer cannot see." Corsaire did not even look up from his notebook. He nibbled at the end of his pen, thinking for a moment. If half the proceeds went to the orphanage, then he could take the other half and divide it between his men and their families with enough leftover for everything needed on the ship.
"The captain is a-little busy right now." Rat tried to turn Adda's attention somewhere else, knowing he hated to be bothered while running the numbers.
“What was your latest score?” Adda said, her gaze back on Corsaire.
"None of your business." Corsaire still ignored her. "Please leave, you're annoying me."
"Ah! Cap'n just wants to finish his a-work," Rat knew when his captain was starting to get in a bad mood. "You can talk to him a-later, hear the story of the kraken, and have drinks all a-round."
"Pretty lady no bother de captain when doing the numbers," Mojo told Adda as he tossed another dart into the bullseye. "He needs to think."
"And cal-cu-late." Juju had a thick accent just like his brother.
Adda raised an eyebrow at the brothers. Their accents were annoying. She looked back at Corsaire, her amusement starting to waver.
“Well, maybe you shouldn’t have come to a bar if you wanted to behave like a nerd and get your homework done. You have problems with doing numbers? Need the other kids to settle down so you can be a good boy? And a Kraken? You think killing some calamari is impressive to a lady?”
"I have problems doing numbers when a bitch with a mouth won't leave me alone when I'm clearly not interested in the booty she's so desperately trying to get me to fuck." Corsaire had lost his cool and shoved his notebook in his pocket. Standing from the table, he headed for the exit. "I'll be on the ship when you boys are done having a good time. Make sure you help Seer back to the docks."
"Oh sweet goddess of the seas," Rat took in a deep inhale. "Miss, I'll show you a-good time in the captain's absence, let me take you to the bar and buy you-a drink."
Adda glared at Corsaire now, more aware of the pistols at her side. She didn’t often let people insult her to her face sober. “I see you have a black spot on you. You lose any of your brothers in taking down a Kraken? Hear any of their bones crack and give a nice loud pop? That why you in a bad mood? Or you just a naturally born pussy with a splintered peg up your ugly ass.” She gave a chuckle, but it lacked any real humor in it. “And is sex the only thing you can naturally conclude? You’d be honoured to have sex with me, bitch. I suppose I’d have to find someone else to assist me in securing a legendary treasure.” Adda looked at Acrobat, giving a teasing smirk. “I think Mr. Goro here has a bigger brain than you on how to be smart around a lady who can carve and staple your face to a mast.”
The rest of the crew heard her mouth and instantly frowned. No one liked it when Corsaire was mocked about the kraken incident. Mojo and Juju stopped their game of darts as Acrobat and Pockets halted the shooting of pool. Seer, who was being seen to by Bomba, both looked up from their food. Rat, who had tried to be a gentleman before, was now angry. It was clearly seen on his face.
"Cap'n is a good man."
"More than you will evah be."
"Saved us, we his brothers!"
"And I-I-I'm not a G-G-Goro."
"Yeah, lady, don't call him names, it's bad enough you're staring."
"Cap'n only fucks a proper lady," Bomba zipped by Adda with a look up and down, and then turned his nose up. "Not one that smells of ass."
"Can we get out of here before someone gets killed?" Seer was dragged along beside Bomba, the blind man able to get around on his own, but it was difficult in small spaces with people.
Adda was surprised, a rarity for her. She looked over the crew that boldly spoke up to her. Akin to a shark, her eyes were still, like a doll’s eyes, the devil’s eyes. Her mind contemplated if this was an insult she would punish, or a joke that she could find enjoyable.
Looking these misfits over, and hearing Mojo’s accent again, she laughed. Her laugh echoed a young cockiness found only in Gerudo, and a dash of dark insanity, not unlike Ganondorf. Like a joke only she found was funny. “You are all an interesting bunch. Here.” She put a sack of extra jewels on the table and started to walk away. “Sorry for intruding on you and your merry men. Enjoy the entertainment around here. You’ve peeked my interest. I’ll be keeping a close eye on you. Or maybe I’ll just kill you.”
"Damn, Cap'n, she's a crazy bitch." Bomba whispered to Corsaire. "Why didn't ya just knock her lights out with dat arm of yours?"
"Because a whore like that isn't worth it." Corsaire gestured for his men to follow him out of the bar, leaving a generous tip for the barmaid. "She wanted to start something and I wasn't going to let her get the best of me."
"What should we a-do with the jewels?" Rat asked.
"Give them to the barmaid. She has three mouths to feed and her husband ran out on her." Corsaire instructed his quartermaster. "She could use it."
"Shall we get the sails ready, cap'n?" Acrobat inquired as he hobbled along with his crutches. "Go tonight?"
"No, we still have business tomorrow. Let's get some rest and I'll take first watch."
"As you say, cap'n."
Adda sat down, getting her first drink of the night. “What a mother fucker...”
Scarlet walked towards her, eyeing the crew as they left. “You want me to take care of them?”
“What? No, no.”
“But they insulted you!”
“People insult me all the time. I’m the Queen bitch of the seven seas....” She took a solemn drink at that.
Scarlet felt enraged. “I’m gonna knock his fucking teeth out.”
Adda shook her head. “Don’t. A crew of misfits isn’t worth the trouble. I think I’ll just forget about them. Need to focus on finding a dummy crew to help us with our main objective. We didn’t travel across the world to pick random fights with some losers.”
Scarlet ignored her, stomping over in her huge armour right up to Corsaire’s face. “Hey, you!”
"Cap'n doesn't want to be bothered right a-now, thank you." Rat stood in the armored woman's way. "Leave him alone, and go back to your leader, miss."
"She sounds really heavy." Seer noticed the clanking of metal. "What in the seven seas is she wearing?"
"It's a b-b-big suit of ar-armor." Pockets told the man. "Like someth-thing you'd see at a c-castle."
"She gave you her time you assholes. She's the Chieftain of the last great Gerudo tribe left. Show some respect to her. She deserved her spot at the top, fought for it fairly. AND she smells wonderful, unlike you, you tiny bandana wearing, ugly tanned grease ball." Stabbing her words carefully, she turned and gave a low growl like a panther towards Bomba on that last comment. Adda rolled her eyes and continued her drink. Scarlet liked to be her hype-woman, whether she wanted it or not. "So, when my Captain gives you a proposition for business, sex, or whatever the hell else she wants, you can at least give her your time to listen."
Adda touched her own Bandana under her hat. Scarlet wasn't the most observant, or smartest. She turned her attention to the bar fight she instigated, still raging on.
"Cap'n Corsaire doesn't have to give anyone his time." Bomba huffed, puffing up his chest like a turkey. The teenager wasn't the brightest of the bunch and was pulled back by Rat. "I'll have you know, you metal lunk, that no one gets respect just because of some damn title and a nice pair of titties!"
"She does have big boobies." Mojo muttered to his brother.
"Aye, dat she does." Juju nodded.
Rat tossed Bomba over his shoulder before the kid got his head knocked off his shoulders.
"Listen, lassie, we don't want any trouble." Rat was trying to be the peacemaker, but it was proving to be a difficult task. "Kindly go back to ye boss, and leave us be. I'm saying this politely, because you a-know nothing of the cap'n."
Using his crutches, Acrobat nudged at her leg and pushed aside.
"Come on guys, the women have ruined the buzz at this bar." He hobbled down the steps with Pockets following after him. "Some ruin it for the rest of us, I swear."
"You were doing... doing g-g-g-ood at pool this t-time!" Pockets agreed as he helped his friend with the stairs. "Some p-p-people like her and the other... other lady are just... m-mean!"
"If your boss wants a man, there's a brothel that way." Seer pointed down the wrong street.
"Other way, Seer."
"That direction, excuse me."
All the while, Corsaire was groaning internally, just wanting to be left alone.
If Scarlet wasn’t pissed before, the blind man did it for her now. No one, no one, made a comment about their crew and a brothel under any circumstance. The Iron Knuckle gave the blind man a sucker punch to the face. “You calling us prostitutes?! You’re fucking dead!”
Adda looked over, watching her first mate grab Bomba up high over her head to throw at Rat. “Oh fucking hell…”
"WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU, HE'S BLIND!!!" Corsaire jumped into action as Rat caught Bomba and set the teenager on his feet. Seer was out cold from the punch, his nose spurting blood. Pockets grabbed the downed cook and kept Acrobat behind him. Mojo and Juju drew their pistols and were ready to shoot. Before Scarlet could throw a punch at Rat for being distracted with Bomba, Corsaire caught one of the Iron Knuckles' fists with his metal arm, the clang echoing through the bar. "I don't know what your problem is, or your damn boss', but you do not hit Seer!!! You can hit me as much as you like, but you don't attack my brother who cannot see!" With that, he swung with his free hand, catching her in the jaw. "I'll fucking kill you if you touch him again. You won't hurt him, no one will ever hurt him again, he's suffered enough!"
"He wasn't insinuating anything, you stupid bitch!" Bomba hollered. "He was just giving directions, all women go to find male prostitutes around here!"
"Cap'n, calm down!" Seer exclaimed as he groaned, holding his nose. Pockets managed to shake him awake. "I'm okay!"
"We're leaving. Now." Corsaire ordered his men. "Let's find Seer a doctor."
"Cap'n, I'm okay---"
"Doctor. No bickering."
"... fine."
With that, the crew headed into town in search of a healer.
Scarlet grabbed Rat by the shirt, throwing him to the side. With a growl she put her helmet on. “I gave you a handicap. My mistake. You insulted my sister again and again. I’m going to collect a cup of blood from you for every insult you threw.” She measured a litre with her hands. The ironed giant threw a heavy swing at the old gladiator.
"Damn it, woman, what is your problem?!" Rat caught the swing and stopped Scarlet's movements. "Leave us alone!"
Mojo and Juju had had enough of this ignorance. While Rat caught the swing, Mojo let off one bullet, nicking Scarlet's head to get her attention, the helmet ringing like crazy, while Juju scraped her hand with a bullet. "Look, they miss... on purpose, lady. The next one will be in your head."
"I'll ask only once more or I'll give my men permission to take you down." Corsaire glared at Scarlet as he held Seer around the shoulders. "Leave us alone."
“Go to fucking-“ A shot rang out from Adda’s gun, ricocheting off Scarlets armour, the bullet going past Corsaire’s nose. Adda clicked the second shot ready to go in a instant. “Scarlet! What did I say!”
“But, Captain, they-“ A second shot ran off, into the one exposed part of her armour around her thigh. Scarlet cried out as she dropped down. “I don’t want to hear another goddamn ‘but’ out of you. I told you to leave them alone. You disobeyed an order and got into a fight, where you most likely would have gotten killed. But worse, you damaged my authority by disobeying me. You showed others that you don’t respect my leadership.”
Scarlet was crying now from all the pain, as well as disappointing Adda. “N-no Captain. I’m sorry. I just wanted to make them understand.”
“Understand what? That our crew goes around beating the shit out of cute blind men? What’s next, deaf elderly?”
“T-they insulted you.”
Adda shakes her head. “And it’s my call if I want to tear all four arms off the stuttering man or make a skin carpet out of the albino. You do not act out of term. Now I have to deal with the ‘code’, on why a gun fight broke out on ‘neutral ground’. Maybe even get exiled from this particular port. And that’s on you.”
“A-are you going to kill me?”
Adda tapped her gun. It was just her, Scarlet, and Corsaire’s crew watching. “No. Not today. But don’t you ever disobey me again. Now pick yourself up, apologize, stop sobbing, go find yourself a medic, and go back to the ship.”
Scarlet nodded, saying sorry over and over to each crew member. As she hobbled off, Adda twirled her gun back into her holster. “Apologies for your blind Voe’s injury. We can talk about his medical bill in the morning. See you around....”
As the two woman left, Adda sighed. “What the hell were you thinking girl?”
“I’m sorry Captain…”
“It’s ok. Let’s get you patched up…”
The crew felt their adrenaline drop as the Gerudo walked off. Bomba expressed the feeling in the air perfectly.
“What the HELL just happened here?”
~
It was an eventful night to say the least. After taking Seer to the doctor, where it was confirmed that he had a broken nose, the crew returned to the ship. After seeing Seer to bed to rest and recover, the rest of the men agreed to get some sleep while the captain took first watch. It was the first night in port in weeks, and the crew were more than ready to rest. As the men retired to their beds, Corsaire sat on the ledge while playing his harmonica. It was a quiet night and the stars were absolutely stunning. He blew a note or two and then leaned back against the rigging. Sighing, the captain traced the constellations with his fingers as he hummed.
"Dark and dangerous, deep and low,
Whispers of a treasure trove,
The sea witch and her serpent show,
To drag you to hell below.
Krakens, maelstroms, the witch's sea,
Hear my cry, hear my plea,
Water spirit of my dreams,
Take me home, on the blue wave's gleam."
Adda felt an odd sense of guilt. She should of approached finding help more directly. But pirates, let alone her, don’t ask for help outright. They need to be smart, manipulative. But in doing so she might have caused more trouble than she wanted. After calming Scarlet down from her wounds and knowing the rest of her crew were settled for the night, she asked around and took some bottles with her as she walked down the docks. The stars were indeed beautiful, and she needed some fresh air. Hearing the harmonica as she approached, she chuckled. Of course, the gruff rogue was a musician. She started to swagger up to the draw bridge to Corsaire’s deck.
"Oh fucking hell, no." Corsaire saw Adda trying to walk up the draw bridge and promptly jumped off the rigging onto the wobbly plank. The board bounced from his added weight and he had his hand on his pistol. He was ready for a fight if there was going to be one. "There ain't no way in the water spirit's good name that I'm letting the likes of you on me ship!" He glared at Adda. "Seer already has a broken nose, I ain't letting anyone else of me mates get hurt because someone doesn't like to be ignored." The captain always had his crew's interest at heart. "What do you want? I have half a mind to give you a broken nose, but I don't start fights with ladies unless I have to."
Adda steadied herself on the board, a little wobbly from a head start of drinking. She was a heavy weight, but if she wasn’t careful, she could fall into the water. “I came here to offer you a drink. I asked around and was told you’re a man of fine rum. Until I was told you’d rather enjoy whisky. So I brought both. As my way of saying sorry for the unnecessary trouble I brought. Think of this as wanting to restart a first impression.” She took out two thick bottles, a rum and whisky in each hand.
"...?" Corsaire was a little taken aback. He was not expecting this brash woman to come with drinks, much less offer an apology of sorts. Maybe someone knocked her silly or she was drunk. He was not sure what to think. "While I appreciate the offer of alcohol, I won't drink when I'm on watch. My brothers count on me." The captain declined the drink and then said, "However, that doesn't mean I cannot enjoy it later. If it doesn't offend your senses, I'll keep my whisky for a more appropriate time."
“Is the password ‘please’ for me to come aboard?” She said as she wiggled both bottles.
"Me ship's a jealous mistress, lass." Corsaire then gestured to the docks. "She's not called the Sea Witch for nothing. You think I want to risk her wrath?"
“Awwww, she can’t fit in another woman? Never know, she might like it~” Adda toned it down a little. “I’m not gonna hurt any of your brothers. Both them and my girls should be able to rest easy tonight. Now can I come aboard?”
"No." Corsaire was not buying into her attempt at flirting. When she asked again to come aboard, this time more serious, he crossed his arms, debating for a moment. Finally, he relented, begrudgingly, simply because she brought a peace offering. Snatching the whisky, he said, "On deck only."
“Got it. Want to pull up the bridge? Can help you relax more.” Adda walked up around the deck, feeling the wood below her. “Any story behind this Sea Witch? It see a dreaded battle? Acquired from a deal with an actual sea witch?”
"Nay, I leave it in case we need to exit in a hurry. Can't jump overboard with Seer, he cannot see where to swim, and Acrobat can't swim due to his legs." Corsaire did not have any chairs on deck so he simply pulled up a barrel for Adda to sit upon for the time being. "I built this ship with my quartermaster after my run-in with“...I’m sorry about making that crack at you. I was pissed that I hadn’t gained your attention. I know my own grievances about sea monsters....” Adda sat down and popped open the rum for the two of them. the kraken. Named her after the dreaded sea witch that took down me mentors."
“I’m sorry about making that crack at you. I was pissed that I hadn’t gained your attention. I know my own grievances about sea monsters.” Adda sat down and popped open the rum for the two of them.
"Some believe the story and others don't. It's not up to me whether the landlubbers think the Kraken is real or not." Corsaire took a spot on the opposite barrel. "I know it's real and I know better now than to ever mess with one of its kind again."
“I’d believe your tale if you’d believe mine. Why’d you fight a Kraken anyways? Was there a woman, a treasure, glory...or just in the wrong place at the wrong time?”
"Treasure and greed, lassie." Corsaire was honest, he saw no reason to lie. "Took me first crew to its lair, thought the story was a bunch of hogwash. Rat was the only sensible one to stay away. Took one of the lifeboats off the ship and stayed outside the cave." He chuckled halfheartedly. "That's the only time he ever disobeyed me. I lost me crew, lost me arm, but I blew that son of a bitch to kingdom come."
“So you actually killed your monster. Admirable. You feed the squidy some firepower?” Adda had a laugh, pouring them two drinks.
"Nah, it actually was devouring the first ship I stole." Corsaire shook his head at the drink, knowing he was on duty. "Several boxes of gunpowder fell into its mouth. I shot the box before it could eat me."
“Good thinking. Shame about your crew. They die quickly though?”
"Some drowned, some were crushed, and others were eaten." Corsaire shuddered to think about it. "Didn't really know the men, just said they could have whatever they could carry if we succeeded in finding the treasure. Rat rowed me back to land before I died and bargained for me this arm." He pulled off his glove, showing his metal fingers and wriggled them. "Some islander magic”, he said. “Lor-Lee-Li something... found it in a market and bought it for me."
“That’s the arm you threatened to punch me with hon?” Adda examined it, trailing her fingers down his mechanical bicep. “Nice craftsmanship.”
"It's not for sale, if that's what you're going to ask next." Corsaire snorted as she touched the metal, not able to sense her touch with the fake limb. "All I know is Rat said it was elemental magic from some island. Won't melt, won't break, just needs a good cleaning here and there." He put his glove back on his hand. "Banthorarium I think it was called."
“Don’t want to buy it. Now, my brave little Captain, it’s my turn to tell a story.” Adda stood up, taking another drink. “You ever hear of the infamous narrow trench?”
"Aye, I have. Sirens be there." Corsaire nodded.
“To us Gerudo, the charms of a siren are lost on us. But that is not the danger that concerned me was there. In this trench, in order to pass through, you must negotiate a narrow strait. Let me ask you a question Captain. Given the option, would you take a route that would chance either complete survival or complete destruction of you, your ship and crew, or take a choice to willingly sacrifice a member of your crew, but guarantee the rest of you and the surviving crew safe passage?”
"My crew, me mates, are my brothers." Corsaire told Adda as he crossed his arms and leaned back against the other barrels. "They'd lay down their lives for me and I'd do the same for them. I'd never willingly sacrifice one. We'd take the risk; all together alive or die together."
“HA! So you’d take the choice I didn’t make.” Adda looked back at the stars. “When I first became Captain, I took my crew on a large expedition, stealing from some rich snobs. They sent a navy after us, so I decided to take a quick shortcut to avoid capture. I was previously told of the story of Scylla and Charybdis. Scylla was a six headed sea monster who would eat members of ships that passed by. Charybdis was an even fiercer entity, who used hurricanes and whirlpools to swallow whole ships. On the left side of the ship we saw the storms. On the right, calmer waters. I took the crew through the right path. Like hell was I going to take us through the storm. Yes, I had a chance for all of us to survive, but we might have all died as well. Besides...” Adda took her sword out and made fancy sword play. “We were badass Gerudo warriors! The deadliest female crew of pirates to ever live! We could take down a monster of the physical flesh.” She stabbed her sword into her sheath, shrugging her shoulders. “Oh how wrong I was. Scylla shot forth from the water’s depths. It had this terrifying appearance. I could make out what was once human, I think. It was so uncanny. It shot forward, eating two crew members immediately. It just kept chewing them, slowly. The screams....god those screams.” Adda took another swig of her rum. “We fired enough cannon fire at the other heads and used our might to stay alive, but they just wouldn’t die. That was when the monster started attacking my ship, pushing it towards the left part of the straight towards Charybdis. It wouldn’t be denied it’s meal. So.... I made a choice. I shot four of my members in the feet and back. Scylla accepted the offering and ate them. With all six of her heads fed, she let us through. I had to make a sacrifice, right on the spot at such a young age.” Adda relaxed onto the barrel again. “Now, whenever I have to go through there again, I make sure I have the right sacrifices. I don’t want to sacrifice my sisters ever again.”
"Captains make mistakes and we pay for it then or later. It will always haunt us." Corsaire knew that at the time, Adda did what she felt she had to do to ensure the survival of the majority of her crew. "Once, I might have made the choice you did if I ended up like my mentors. They started out on a good path... but by the end were lying, kidnapping, murdering rapists." He recalled the faces of the captain brothers, Azir and Hizir. "My own brother fell under their impression and he, too, lost his life by the sea witch along with our mentors. Perhaps if I had simply dragged my brother off their ship, he'd still be with me... or not. I'll never know for sure." He shrugged slightly, and then added, "But what I do know is no captain is perfect. I've made plenty of mistakes, mistakes that cost me and my crew. Yet, through the maelstroms of it all, they've stuck with me. I couldn't ask for a better band of brothers."
“You think you’re a good man? Above your mentors? Me? Or any other pirate?” Adda asked in a good tongue and cheek, philosophical way.
"No." Corsaire answered honestly as he fixed his tilted hat. "But I try to be the good man my crew thinks I am."
“That’s cute. You’re cute.” Adda sat her drink down. “I saw that you gave the jewels I presented to you to that single barmaid. That’s very....charitable. Why do you do it? And please don’t tell me it was out of the good of your heart. Everyone has an ulterior motive....you like her?”
"Dahlia has three kids, young ones with mouths to feed." Corsaire told Adda, having seen the little ones in the bar before when the babysitter dropped them off for the barmaid. "I know what it is like to be hungry, and no, Dahlia doesn't interest me in that way. Her focus is her children, the way it should be." He explained to Adda. "True, I could have used the jewels for my ship's necessities, or I could have spent it for Seer's nose. Yet, the money had needs elsewhere and I have the ability to pickpocket, raid, or steal whenever I please. Miss Dahlia does not."
“Ha. Never said if you like her you devil.” Adda took her hat off, followed by taking Corsaire’s off with a quick snag. Her long beautiful red hair flowed in the wind. Taking a breath of the sea she smiled at the Voe. “The sea is calming, isn’t it. I got another peace offering for your crew, if you’re interested.”
"I admire her, but romantic interest? No." Corsaire knew the woman would not shut up until he answered. "If it's more alcohol, I'm sure they'll oblige."
“I’m not flirting myself when I say this, but when’s the last time you or your men have had sex?”
"That... is something I actually do not keep track of with my men." Corsaire snorted, trying to hold back a laugh. "As for myself, it's usually the last time we're in port."
“This would be to make up for the fighting and have you not make any report against me. But I could persuade my crew to mingle with your crew. Nice environment, safety, few drinks here and there. Some of my own crew has been blue balled, even tonight.” She gave a chuckle. “Go really easy on the shy guys in your crew. Give them a night they wouldn’t forget. Hell, they could even pick out who they’d like. Just don’t make any comments about whores, prostitution or brothels, and it could be a fun time for all. How’s that sound?”
"Pfffffttt..." Corsaire had to hold back a laugh at her phrasing, knowing it was rough to have a declination of intercourse. "Pockets and Seer are the two most shy men on ship, but Pockets is the shiest man on the planet, I swear, he turns red if a lady holds his hand!"
“How much you bet he’d faint in one of my girls’ arms as they carried him off to bed~” Adda stifled a loud laugh she wanted to get out of her system.
"Oh, there's no need to bet, he fainted when a lady kissed his cheek for carrying her groceries!" Corsaire tried to keep his snickers to a minimum. "He's got a pure heart, that's for sure."
“Then you won’t object to the offer.” Adda put on his hat. Turned out to be a very good fit.
"Object to..." Corsaire paused his words as the lady adjusted his hat. Why did the women always go for his hat? Was it a secret kink among the girls or something? He cleared his throat, deciding to play dumb. "What offer?"
Adda walked around him, trailing a finger under his chin. “The type where after we undress you of your clothing and have our fun, we get to keep a trinket or cloth to remember you by.” She gave a hardy grin, feeling the rim of his hat and ready to move if he grabbed for it. “Think I’d keep your hat. Add a peacock feather to it!”
"You have a very descriptive definition of fun." Corsaire chuckled as she tried to tempt him and then stood. "And I'd sooner let you keep me treasure," He placed his hands on her hips, one running up her back, getting closer, lips almost touching. "then keep me hat." With a quick tip of his fingers, he flipped the hat off her head onto his.
Adda allowed him to lay his hands on her. They were firm. "I could settle for that too. I like this look...." One hand held him by the belt, the other firmly holding his back.
"Though... my crew, they get a touch lonely too, you know." Corsaire nearly jolted when she squeezed his ass. "We could always arrange for somewhere more so... suited for nightly activities."
"I know a proper quiet hotel on this island. I can get us all some nice quarters. Or just settle for staying on my ship~" She grinned as his face crumbled for a moment at her squeeze. She reached down and squeezed the front of his pants too. "You know, usually I challenge men to a sword fight, cut their pants down and make them submit. All I had to do was walk onto your ship and you were mine!"
Corsaire was not exactly a fan of submitting to a woman he did not know. For all he knew, this could be a trick to slit his throat after the deed was done. He had heard of some women seducing men, then killing the poor sap, and taking off with all the money. He was about to nicely decline the offer of meeting on a turf she knew when he heard footsteps coming up from the cabins.
"Captain?" It was Seer. What was he doing up this late? "I sense someone else on the boat."
Adda was like a cat when it came to having sex with men. When she was hungry, she'd consume as many as she could. If they were especially tasty looking they were hers. The Captain liked to play with them before digging in as well. People were consumables to her. Be it for money, sex, or just an able body to use. And seeing the blind man come up, she gave a smile, wrapping an arm around Corsiare's shoulder, standing side by side with him. "Hello there dear. Seer was it? Glad to see you up and about after that little scuffle earlier evening."
"...? Wait... you're the lady from earlier this evening. The one that smells like brimstone and metal." Seer wondered why Corsaire allowed her on the ship. “What was going on? ... I'd prefer not to be punched again."
"No, no, the lady is just here for an apology." Corsaire quickly told Seer, taking this chance to turn from Adda and check on his crew member. "You should be resting."
"I was... until I sensed her."
"I'm here for your whole crew my man. By next week I won't even be in this particular ocean. Felt wrong not to give you and the rest of your brothers a.... proper apology." She slowly trailed a finger down his open upper chest. "Corsaire, why don't you wake the crew. It's not even midnight yet."
"Um... whole crew?" Seer repeated her words, not understanding what she meant until that finger traced down his chest. His white skin turned bright red in the cheeks. Usually women were not so forward with him unless she had a kink of some kind. "M'am, you know, that's mighty kind of you, but I'm sure a nice lady like yourself has a more suitable bed... partner..."
"Seer, are you seriously being shy when the lady is interested in you?" Corsaire knew the man was a touch shy, but then again, he always was very tipsy when he ended up in bed with another lady. "Just say hello before you go straight for the boobs, okay?"
"I did not---!!!"
"You were tipsy that one time and told a lady she had a fantastic pair of tits. I thought you were going to get slapped but she actually liked that."
"Depends on the woman." Adda trailed a finger down the side of Seer's cheek. "You were right Corsaire, he is a shy one. Give me a moment with him while you get the rest of your boys?"
"I think they'll definitely take you up on your offer." Corsaire laughed the way Seer kept turning so red. "Now, be nice to Seer. He's not normally one to flirt with ladies until he's had a few."
"Captain!!!" Seer protested. "What are you doing?!"
"I'm helping you get laid, I'll be back in a second... or minutes..."
Watching Corsaire go below deck, Adda gave a chuckle. "You seem like a nice kid. How old are you?" The poor man felt himself be pulled waist to waist with the tall Gerudo Captain. She wasn't a massive giant like some of her tribe, but at just over six feet, she was peak to most average men. Luckily, Seer matched her in height.
"Um... I really don't know?" Seer answered honestly with a sheepish grin as she pulled him close. "I think I'm around maybe twenty-two... or twenty-three. Maybe older, maybe younger, I'm not sure."
"Twenty-Five myself. I think you're cute. Sorry my best friend punched you in the face. I heard the blind have the rest of their senses heightened." Her hands held his sides for support as she leaned in to give him a deep kiss. Her lips were like strawberries, her breathe fresh and savoury.
Seer was nearly at full attention from that deep kiss. Other senses being heightened, Adda was definitely right about that. Perhaps he was a little too eager when turned on, simply picking Adda up underneath her ass and feeling that glorious backside.
Adda had the booty and the rack to bring heaven to any man. She lathered her tongue with him, pulling away for the tease. "So tell me, how did THAT feel~"
"I'm not sure I have the proper words for it, but I think I'm going to settle with amazing for right now." Seer said breathlessly. "I'd like for it to happen again."
"Alright. You want to wait for your brothers to wake up or do you want to get out of here now~?" Adda tugged at his belt, a Cheshire grin on her face.
"You know I can't see, right?" Seer liked to use a little jest here and there. "You'll definitely have to 'lead' the way."
"Then let's go~" Adda held his hand down to the docks and whistled for her ride. A gerudo on a mechanical skid boat steered in. It was made of Termina technology. Simple for quick on the shore transport, and easily attachable to the main ship. "Easy steps honey."
Once in the boat Adda sat him down, taking her own seat beside him. "Hold onto me tight, ok~"
"Oh sweet Water Spirit..." Seer nearly cursed under his breath as the boat moved so suddenly. The noise was rattling in his ears and he felt a little uneasy by all the metal. He was used to Corsaire's ship. The cook gripped Adda a little tightly.
Adda saw Corsaire getting up onto the deck again, waving him goodbye. “Too slow~ Meet you at my ship! You can’t miss it!”
Giving a laugh she held the nervous cook back.
Once the boat slowed, Seer felt like he could breathe much easier. His senses were not being rattled. Corsaire and the rest of the crew would be along soon enough. Though he was not exactly sure what this captain saw in him.
The small speedboat pulled up to its destination. Her ship was unlike many in this ocean. It was large, made of metal, yet floated with grace. It was painted to look like black charcoal wood, and the sails had a magical shimmer to them. Her flag was an old Gerudo symbol, forgotten to even her. To Adda, it looked cool and held significance that marked it as her own. As the small speed boat was pulled up to the side of the ship, Adda stepped onto the large open deck, and her crew cheered.
“Captain! You did it!”
“Others coming?”
“Ooooo, he looks cute~”
“That the guy Scarlet punched? Poor lad.”
“Can we share him?”
Adda waved both her hands downwards to silence them. “Ey! The other boys should be on their way. This handsome fellow is mine though. So is their Captain if he has the balls to challenge me. Come on Mr. Cook. I’ll walk you up to my quarters.”
There were so many women, too many women. Seer gulped down his nervousness as the women pawed at him, feeling their touchy feely hands. He nearly jumped out of his skin as one groped his backside. What fresh hell had Adda brought him into now? Thankfully, the captain told the rest of the women to back off as she led him to her quarters.
“You don’t get off on drugs do you?”
"No! No drugs!" Seer reacted negatively to the mention of any substance. He shook his head insistently. "No drugs, or I go."
Adda squeezed his hand. “Good. Means that I don’t have to worry about some junkie not wanting to focus on me or trying anything stupid.” Adda opened the door to her quarters for Seer. First room was an office, with trophies all over the walls. Second room was her bedroom. The bed was a King Sized mattress with the softest sheets and blankets Seer had ever felt when she sat him down. “You don’t have to worry about a thing.”
"8 steps... from the door to this room and... 10 steps to the bed." Seer counted as a habit. He knew every inch of Corsaire's ship, and this was foreign territory. Once Seer felt the sheets, his hands carefully smoothed the material before sitting on the mattress. "You know, I'm not usually the pick of the litter, if you know what I mean." His head turned in her direction.
“You mentioned that. You got self-esteem issues?”
"Not really, I don't mind being blind." Seer admitted. "I'm just curious as to why."
“I can tell when a man doesn’t want it. Your Captain was chivalrous, but it seemed he wasn’t into me. His loss....and your gain.”
"All the men have their particular tastes." Seer told Adda. "You, however, I think will be all right because... you smell nice."
A knock came at her door, Scarlet’s nervous voice calling out. “Captain. The rest of the men arrived.”
“Ey! Seer. Wait right here. Just want to settle your brothers in.”
Adda walked to the quarter deck, a lot of the Gerudo woman eyeing Corsaire and his men. “Hello boys. Welcome aboard!”
Once the men were on the ship, Corsaire had to admit it was a nice setup.
Hard drinks, fine wines, and other fruity beverages had been set up. Adda shook Corsaire’s hand. “Your lad’s waiting on me, so let’s make this quick. No one does anything stupid, like kleptomania. Besides, you don’t want to steal from a band of thieves. Two, play nice, and we’ll treat you nice~”
"Pirates stealing from other pirates sounds like a bad story." Corsaire told Adda with a small smirk. "We'll keep this civil."
“Good.” She gave his side a tap, and spun around to address the crews of both crew. “Alright ladies! You wanna have fun!?”
“YEAH!!!” The cry echoed the night. Adda dramatically spun to the men, snapping her fingers with a pose. She had a flare for the dramatic. “What about you Gentlemen!?”
They gave a hell yes right back. This was certainly going to be an interesting night. All the men seemed eager to get to know and romance the ladies before finding a potential bedmate.
Adda pointed to Rat, giving Scarlet a big smack on the ass. Her first mate yelped, blushing red in the face. “What about you two? Maybe take some time making up for earlier tonight?”
“C-captain? You don’t need to-“
“Phhhhhh I insist. It will be good for you Scarlet.”
Scarlet was dumbstruck, slowly turning to Rat. “H-hi....sorry for picking a fight.”
"...? Me?" Rat pointed to himself when Adda suggested he hook up with Scarlet. "I'm very a-flattered, but tis the ladies' job to chose her partner."
"Pfffttt," Corsaire tried to keep from laughing at Rat's surprised face. "Just go with it for once, Rat."
Adda pushed Scarlet towards Rat, and the two of them started to slowly talk. Adda winked to Corsaire. “I’d offer a room, but I get the feeling you’re not into Queens when you see one~”
"All men have certain preferences, Adda, you can't fault me for that." Corsaire chuckled half-heartedly. "I think your girls and my crew will have a good time."
“Well, one day you’re gonna kick yourself in the ass for not being with a beautiful Gerudo when you find one. And with how the population is, you might never get the chance again. Have fun regardless. There’s an empty room you can stay in. That is unless you change your mind~”
Adda pulled him close for a quick teasing peck on the lips, walking back to her bedroom.
Her crew was having the time of their lives with Corsaire’s crew. The men were so charming, some even funny. With poor timid Pockets, a group took their time coaxing him into a good time. But now it was Adda’s turn to enjoy her chosen prey. Taking off her clothes, she smiled down at Seer. It was a damn shame he couldn’t see anything. Took the fun out of an exotic and slow strip tease, but she supposed it couldn’t be helped. “I hope I didn’t tease you too long with the wait.”
"No," Seer was feeling the embroidery on the sheets. He had never learned to read or write, but could recognize certain letters from his years with Corsaire. Brail books were rare, and the few that he had on the ship were the courtesy of his captain trying to teach him how to read. This language, however, he did not know. "What does it say?"
“It means Power. For the Gerudo, Power became synonymous with the Gerudo King of Hyrule, Ganondorf. The tribes of Termina have luckily never met him, because I imagine if we did, we’d be challenged, and either wiped out, or forced to obey him. Being Captain means I am the Chieftain of the Terminia Gerudo Pirate Clan. So as far as I am concerned, I am the Queen to my people just as he was King. I am Power itself.”
She gripped his shirt, and with a solid pull, tore it in two with a loud rip of the fabric. Men usually loved this move or were terrified by it. Regardless, it got Adda off. What held Adda’s interest, was that she was intrigued by Seer being invested in her culture, as little as he could be though.
"Whoa!" Seer was certainly surprised by her simply ripping open his shirt. That was not a move he expected. Though she was a pushy woman and got what she wanted from the sound of it. He was not as buff as some of the other men like Rat or Pockets, but still possessed a good amount of lean muscle.
“Scarlet’s punches are like kitten swipes compared to me. It’s all about how you apply yourself. Now, let’s get the rest so you can match me~” With a purr, Adda took down his pants. Eyeing him over now, he was a very pretty sight. His white skin, coupled with a slimmer body and beautiful dark hair made him an ideal candidate for the pirate. “You want me to describe myself to you? I promise it’s all truth~”
"I'll take your word for it, but I wouldn't want to test it to find out." Seer jested in good humor at Adda's statement. He had been punched once today and that was plenty enough in his book. "Why describe when I can just feel?" His hands carefully found her warm skin. Though his fingers did not go down to her backside, rather up to her face. His calloused fingers gently traced over her jawbone and around her features, feeling the area around her nose and her soft lips. One finger twirled around a lock of her hair, feeling the silky texture. "Warm... and soft."
Adda was expecting him to get touchy as she leaned closer, but she was taken aback by him slowly exploring her face and hair. “Why are you feeling up there?”
"I want to 'see' how you look." Seer explained to the captain. "A female's anatomy is pretty much the same with just a variance in size... but the face, that's the true treasure." The blind man's fingers then slowly left her face. "I can picture what you look like in my mind with my hands. I can sense what you're like by how you smell, the sound of your walk, how words flow from your mouth, the grin with your laugh... it's not too hard to know you're beautiful despite not being able to see."
Adda’s bravado and spunk was gone for a moment in time. In her place was a young woman completely moved by Seer’s words. Her faced softened, and her eyes grew with wonder. How long had it been since someone had spoken to her that way? Too long, too long indeed. Coming back to reality, she held him close. “Trust me when I say this. I think I really like you Seer.” With a deep kiss, the Gerudo woman straddled him, followed by the most passionate night of the man’s life.
~
The night had been glorious for all the men onboard. Gerudo woman came in a variety of charms, and excelled at their beauty. Sleeping with Rat, Scarlet was happy being cozy in the giant mans arms, having never been with someone so big before, and in more ways than one.
The man who had the most fulfilling night though was undeniably Seer. He experienced sober love making like never before. Adda was fiery, tight, and gave him everything a man could want in a passionate night. They had to have kept going even as everyone else went to bed. Filthy with sweat and other nightly coatings, Adda was the first to wake.
Seer had proven quite capable in bed and, in the privacy of her own quarters, she allowed herself to stew on his kindness. It was rare, and something she forgot existed. In this kill or be killed world, it would no doubt get him killed, but she thought it was sweet nonetheless. Her naked body felt so sensitive, even now as she brushed against him. “You beautiful Voe... maybe I can talk to your Captain about you staying on my ship....”
Adda was shocked by herself at muttering such words. He was good, in so many ways, but she wasn’t going to so easily give up her heart for any Voe.
"I appreciate your thoughtfulness," Seer was laying there with his eyes closed, still not wanting to move from the bed. He was comfortable, warm, and these sheets were a slice of heaven. Not to mention, he was not quite ready to leave the company of the beautiful captain. "Though I cannot leave Captain Corsaire, not after all he's done for me. I think you are very lovely, Adda, yet I am not ready to leave just yet. I hope you understand."
Adda was glad he couldn’t see her flare up in embarrassment. “You... weren’t supposed to hear that.”
"I'm blind, Adda, not deaf. Or have you forgotten from having your mind blown last night?" Seer grinned, only teasing in good humor. "... I think I can even hear your face turning red from all the blood rushing to your cheeks."
“Oh shut up.” She crawled on top, giving him a deep kiss. For an extra tease she rubbed her body against him. “I was the best damn experience you ever had~”
His white skin was stained red from multiple love bites, and his hips bruised from the more physical aspects of the night. Adda was incredibly proud of the canvas she painted.
"Love making, yes. Wrestling? I think Rat might have you beat on that." Seer snickered as Adda's warm body pressed against his own. "There is something to be said about all those nips you gave me. I think you definitely hold the record for that, my lady."
“Good.” Her hand trailed his shaft when she heard a knock at her door. With a grin, she held his hand to get one more touch of her perfect breasts. “Mmmm, stay here.”
Getting up, she quickly put on the bare clothing she needed with some baggy pants, a bra, and her hat. Opening the door, she smiled at Corsaire. She hoped he would be jealous. “Ey Cap. Here to check in on your lad?”
"I'm alive, Captain." Seer said from the bed with a chuckle. "She didn't kill me."
"Well, I'm glad you're all fine and dandy, my boy, but we need to head out." Corsaire leaned against the door frame. "We have a Danjuran cargo ship heading along our route."
"I understand, Captain."
Adda quirked an eyebrow. Maybe now she could get what she wanted when they first met. “What if I can offer something better?”
"I'm not into a threesome with another man if that's what you're suggesting." Corsaire teased lightly.
The Gerudo captain chuckled, a more serious tone flexing from her voice. Games were over now for her. “How’d you like treasure more valuable than gold or jewels.”
"I'm listening."
Adda went to get fully changed, teasing Covarog with her naked body as she got herself into fresh clothing. “You see my sails there Corsaire?”
"I see the carpet matches the drapes."
"Captain, please!" Seer was feeling around trying to find his own clothes and accidently picked up one of Adda's bras. Clearing his throat, he folded the underwear neatly before placing it on her bed and continuing to search. "Be serious for once."
“You can keep it if you’d like~”
Adda gave him one of her shirts as well and patted Seer, fuelling his shy embarrassment.
Now clothed, the Captain walked onto the main deck. “Up above you are one of fives magical sets known as the Swift Sail. You can’t burn or tear it, and it will sail perfectly in any direction, no matter the air resistance. In my travels I’ve discovered two other sets. Both of which I’ve promptly locked up and dropped into the sea. Rather not have anyone else have the advantage I have.” She turned to Corsaire with another dramatic spin. “However, a ship I’ve been tracking for a while has the fourth set. You help me raid this ship, and along with splitting the rest of the jewels in half, I will allow you to keep the Swift Sail for yourself.”
"Hrm... sounds a little too good to be true.” Corsaire crossed his arms. "How do I know you'll not betray me? I'm not known to work with other pirates because I've been double crossed before."
“Because on this ship that we’ll attack, there’s a much bigger prize that I desire. I can’t achieve my goal without another crew to help me pincer in my target.”
Adda took her gun, firing a bullet to not only wake her crew, but demonstrate that the sail could not be torn. “It’s like the saying goes. There’s honour amongst thieves. I can guarantee they hold the full set. I can guarantee the rest of the treasure they hold can make your crew very happy men. So trust me.”
"Hrm... what do you think, Seer?"
"Me, Captain?"
"You're the one that spent the night with her, what do you think?" Corsaire asked the cook. He knew about Seer's ability to 'read' people, to sense their thoughts, whether it was honest intentions or not. "Should I trust her?"
"Well... she was kind to me, Captain. Her words are sincere, from what I sense." Seer spoke as he finished putting on his clothes, but was having trouble with the shirt. Button up shirts were his worst enemy. He was off by one button. "If she was going to betray you, I would detect more malice. I do not sense any."
"... very well." Corsaire trusted his crewmate. "If Seer thinks you're good... then I suppose you are."
“Good. Very good.”
Adda was so close to achieving her dominance of the sea.
~
It took a day’s travel, both crews working with each other in sequence. Their target was an imperial ship of some rich nation. The ship was small, but very fast. Adda was right when she said her ship couldn’t catch it on its own, but with Corsaire’s help, the two ships trapped their quarry at the mouth of a river. That was when the bloodbath commenced. Adda was ruthless, her cannon fire crippling the lower decks of the ship, forcing it to beach itself. She used mortar fire to take care of any who dared flee onto the land. Her boarding party swept aboard and Adda showed off her terrifying power with a blade. With great laughter and snark, she duelled her way forward. Corsaire witnessed her exchange blows with the enemy captain, the man cursing the pirates to his dying breath. It was obvious that Adda was toying with him. When she was finally bored, she pulled out her revolver in the middle of the sword duel and shot her opponent in the knee cap. As the man screamed she took his suffering in with a deep breath, and silenced him with another shot to the head. Soon enough a number of men had surrendered, being round up on the main deck. Adda took extreme satisfaction from her work as a pirate. After finishing her afterglow of the victory, she signalled Corsaire to come aboard.
Adda was ruthless, that was for sure. If at all possible, he tried to avoid killing, but it seemed Adda and her crew rather enjoyed it. Once on board, Corsaire made sure that he took only a few men, leaving the rest on his ship. Rat and Pockets were beside of him, while the rest stayed on board the Sea Witch. Once Adda had her treasure, then he would go his separate way.
"You find it?"
“Give me a moment.” Adda eyed the men that were still alive. “Hmm. You’re cute. Ladies take him, and five others. You know what to do with the rest.”
They gave their Captain a nod, and put six men onto the Gerudo ship. The other were dragged over to the edge of their ship, having their necks slit and thrown into the river. Crocodiles tore into the corpses as they fell in.
Kicking down the treasury door, Adda pointed out the treasure she wanted Scarlet to divide. The first mate started counting the treasure boxes, finding a large massive rolled up sail. With a smile, she handed it to Rat. To tell the truth, she was forming a crush. “Here you go Mousa.”
"Thank you, lassie." Rat took the sail as Pockets started to load the divided treasure onto the Sea Witch. "And I's a ratty... not a mousa." He winked at her. "Not meek like a mousa either. Then again, you know that."
"Is it necessary to kill everyone?" Corsaire felt his hairs stand up on his neck when the women so casually killed the men and fed them to crocodiles. "Or is this not to leave any loose ends?"
“Lack of loose ends. Those six will make a good distraction for Scylla when we return to home waters. You aren’t worried, are you?” Adda cracked a smile, sneaking malice in it to purposely make Corsaire feel a little fear to her. Discovering a silver box, it held the engraving of ancient text, and three golden triangles. Creaking it open, Adda took hold of a very light silver baton. With a single light swing, the wind blew softly. “It actually exists....”
"You know, you could always sail around Scylla." Corsaire mentioned and tried to keep a straight face. He was not malicious at heart unless the situation called for it. What Adda did was her business. "I have no reason to worry as long as you uphold your end of the bargain. You have what you want, and I have one of the sails. Give me the rest and we'll be even."
"Captain!" Seer called from the Sea Witch. "You and Lady Adda better hurry. We have a Danjuran navy ship on our tails!"
“You only need the current sail for its magic to work. God knows what power could happen if you got all five. And by the sound of it, we don’t have the time.” Adda power walked to her ship. “Scarlet, do we have the inscription for whirlpools?”
“Yes Captain!”
“Excellent. I can buy us some time for goodbyes and an escape Corsaire.”
"The legend says I need all of them." Corsaire knew how pirates were, so he had to be sneaky. As Seer called about the Danjuran ship, he knew the navy would be close soon enough. After all, he used to be an officer for the royal Danjuran navy. He knew all the ins and outs of their routes, how the ships worked, and the weaponry. Hopping back on his ship, the captain signaled for the men to ready the sails. Grinning, the captain removed the board connecting the Sea Witch to the one he and Adda chased. With the wind in their favor, the sails unfurled and lurched it forward. "Though it won't be too hard to find where you've hid them."
“You can have my sails when you find the fifth set!” Adda ran to her ship, her crew setting out. Taking the scroll Scarlet unrolled for her, Adda followed the directions carefully. It was time to see if this Wind Waker worked. She made a flurry of flics left to right, once up, twice down, finishing by pointing at the navy ship. Storm clouds poured over the target, and the sea itself swirled. A massive whirlpool started to rock the boat, anchoring it in a circle as it spun around. Adda gave out a triumphant laugh. “It worked? IT WORKED!!! I have the greatest weapon a pirate could ever dream of!!! HahaHAHAHA!!! YES!!!”
The two ships momentarily sailed together as they left the navy behind. Adda walked to the edge of her ship with a swagger. “Well, boys, I suppose this is goodbye!”
"Just wait until I come for your sail." Corsaire said in good humor as he signaled for his men to head in the direction of Gulper Bay. "See you soon, captain of the Gerudos!"
Seer was at the end of the ship and although he could not see Adda, he waved goodbye with a soft smile.
“I guess you’ll have to visit. Give a year or two after I’ve finished making myself Queen of the Sea. Gerudo woman are the best damn pirates you’ll ever meet!”
Scarlet took her helmet off and waved to Rat. “I’ll think of baby names just in case!”
Adda turned to her with a look of confusion. “What?”
Scarlet whispered to herself in embarrassment. “I didn’t buy any pills or condoms. Something might happen...”
“Christ girl....”
Shaking her head at her first mate, Adda turned her attention and winked at Corsaire. “Normally I’d consider you a ‘loose end’.... but that cook of yours is too damn adorable to disappoint~ Don’t tell any Gerudo men about us, and you can visit anytime!”
Seer normally did not think about ever having contact with a woman with such bravado as Adda, but perhaps, one day soon... he'd see her again.
With that, both ships sailed in different directions, new adventures and danger awaiting them. (Christmas gift to the beautiful Lorraine of @figmentforms. Captain Adda is technically a creation of Lor that we made together in our spare time. I’m proud to play and bring Adda to life in this crossover with @ridersoftheapocalypse in her first introduction to the extended universe. Art is done by the fabulous @s-kinnaly. Reblogs and comments appreciated! Happy Christmas Eve! See you tomorrow for one more gift!)
[ 365 Days of SasuHina || Day Two Hundred Five: Showers ] [ Uchiha Sasuke, Hyūga Hinata ] [ SasuHina ] [ Verse: Best Years of Your Life ] [ AO3 Link ]
The entire month has been bone dry. Hardly a cloud in the sky, temperatures skyrocketing, the lawn slowly paling even with the sprinklers running.
And then...the one day - one day! - she dares to make plans with her boyfriend...it pours. Which, sure, normally wouldn’t be a problem if they were doing anything indoors. But no...they’d been planning to go to the local park and walk through the various botanical gardens.
He knows how much she loves flowers.
But when Hinata wakes this morning, it’s to a crack of thunder, bolting upright in bed and spacing for a moment as her brain plays catch-up.
And then...she looks to her window. Sees the streaks of rain cascading down the panes. And it sinks in.
Summer showers.
And quite forceful ones, at that.
“...oh n-no…!”
Heart sinking alongside her posture, she gives the weather her best pout and puppy dog eyes. Really, Mother Nature? Really?! They’ve had this planned for almost three weeks! And now it’s ruined…
Head bowing over her lap in defeat with a whimper of disappointment, Hinata reaches for her cellphone atop her nightstand, powering it up and making to text Sasuke.
But he’s beaten her to it.
Seeing the notification, she braces herself for his disappointment.
Rather than a text, however...he’s sent her an image…?
Opening it up, there’s a blink before she gives a graceless snort.
It’s his hand in front of his window...middle finger lifted in a clear sign of distaste for the rain.
As down as she’s feeling overall, she can’t help a few moments of levity at his reaction. Which, if she’s being honest, is probably why he sent it in the first place. Smiling at her screen, she sends a short message.
Is it in bad taste if I ask for a rain check…?
Waiting for a response, she giggles as he just sends a frowny face.
Sorry...but seriously, what should we do…?
Tossing the mobile atop her bed, she gets up and dresses. It’s not overly cold outside, the rain making the warm day a bit humid. So, she opts for a pair of shorts and a blouse over a camisole. By the time she’s done, he’s replied.
With how busy my aunt’s keeping me, it’ll be a while. But yeah we can reschedule.
Hinata wilts a hair. She was afraid of that.
That’s okay. Summer’s far from over yet, right?
If it weren’t pouring, she’d just...open her window and talk to him across the tiny gap between their houses. But given that the raindrops are splattering against her window like bugs on a windshield...maybe not the best idea.
Well, what about today?
Hinata blinks as she reads the question a second time.
...today?
It’s not like they can go to the gardens...sure, they could go do something indoors somewhere, but it just wouldn’t be the same.
Too late.
...wait, what? Before she can type a questioning reply, she jumps at a knock on her bedroom door. “Uh...hello?”
She expects her sister, maybe her father. But instead she gets a Sasuke?
“...how did you -?”
“Your dad let me in. I think he took pity on me standing in the rain,” the Uchiha replies. And he’s probably right. He likely spent no more than a minute or two during the short walk between neighboring houses, and his tank top is soaked! Water drips from the fringe of his hair to her carpet.
“Sasuke, oh my gosh - it’s pouring! You didn’t grab an umbrella?!”
“For a walk that short?”
“Look at your clothes!”
“It’s just water.”
“And it’s just a cold you’ll have if you don’t dry off! Next thing you know, we’ll have to cancel again because you’re s-sick!”
Snickering a bit, he accepts as she dashes to the upstairs bathroom just down the hall and starts ruffling his head with a towel. “All right, all right...yeesh, you’re as bad as my brother.”
She just puffs cheeks at him. “I don’t want you getting sick. Date or not.”
At the word date, Sasuke stills for a moment...and then gives a soft huff of a laugh alongside a grin.
“...what?”
“Nothing. Just…” Pullin the towel from his head, Sasuke considers it a moment before admitting, “...guess it’s still just a little weird. Calling it a date.”
She blinks...and then goes a little pink. True...they haven’t been dating for all that long. They haven’t even been talking again for all that long, all their history considered. And yet...in a lot of ways, it feels like they never stopped. It felt so natural to just...pick right back up where they left off.
And then, well...go a bit further.
“Yeah, I...I guess it kinda is, huh?”
The pair lapse into thoughtful silence for a moment.
“...so, what should we do?”
“Huh?”
“Well, I came over so we could still spend some time together today,” Sasuke explains. “Since it’s pouring out and all. I thought we could just...hang out here. Guess we could drive somewhere if you want…”
“O...oh! No, this is fine! Um…” She looks around her room. In all honesty, she doesn’t have...all that much to do. A few games, some movies… “...we could, um...make some snacks, and watch a f-film?”
“Sure. Sounds good to me. I don’t watch a lotta movies anymore.”
“Oh…?”
“Guess I just fell out of the habit. Rather play games most of the time.”
“Well, I have those too!”
“Nah...movie sounds better. We can just sit and watch. More mindless.”
She blinks. “...okay. But um...m-maybe I should have some proper breakfast first. Did...did you eat before you came over…?”
“Nah.”
“Nah?!” Hinata ruffles up, making to tug him downstairs. “Come on, I’ll make you something!”
He doesn’t object, knowing there’s no changing her mind. In the kitchen, Hanabi is groggily eating some cereal at the table, Hiashi sitting and reading the paper. They both glance up as the other pair enter, exchanging a look before just...going back to their business.
“Do you want pancakes?”
“Sure.”
“With syrup?”
“Nah, too sweet.”
“Uh...jam…?”
“Eh, sure.”
She makes him a tall stack, a smaller one for herself. They join the rest of the Hyūga at the table, eating in a slightly-awkward silence. Hiashi doesn’t yet know the pair are dating...but there’s still a kind of tension in the air.
As soon as plates are rinsed and put in the dishwasher, they retreat back upstairs.
“Well...maybe we’ll do popcorn, um...later,” Hinata offers.
“Good idea. Not sure that’d sit well on top of a mountain of pancakes.”
“Should we...wait to do the movie, then?”
“...yeah, okay. We can play a game for a bit instead.”
Booting up Hinata’s Switch, the pair duke it out in Smash Brothers for a while before switching to Zelda. Hinata takes the reins, showing him her progress in the game thus far.
“I feel bad...she said to hurry, but...there’s so much to do!”
“There isn’t actually a time constraint, Hinata.”
“I know, but I still feel guilty!” she insists, pouting as he chuckles.
Once the morning ages, they slip back downstairs, finding Hiashi gone and Hanabi in her room doing...whatever it is she’s doing. Some popcorn, salt, and butter later, they’re finally ready for their movie…!
...now to pick one.
“Just choose one, Hinata.”
“You don’t have any input?”
“I’ll be totally fine with whatever you want. Trust me.”
She...doesn’t entirely believe that, but slips in an action flick as rain continues to slither down the windows. Settling on her bed next to him, Hinata wriggles into a comfy position along Sasuke’s side. He slips an arm over her shoulders, and a subconscious smile lifts her lips.
Between the warm room, her comfortable pose, the sounds of the rain, and a movie she’s watched half a dozen times...Hianta actually manages to drift off to sleep.
“...‘nata…‘naaata…” Something jostles her shoulder. “Earth to Hinata, do you copy?”
“Huh…?”
“Movie’s over.”
“W...what?!”
“You conked out,” Sasuke snickers, watching her sit up.
“But...but I…?” Hinata wilts. “...I missed all that time with you…?”
“I don’t have to leave yet. And I for one was very okay with you all snug with me, asleep or not.”
Her pouting cheeks go pink. “...guess...I’m more tired than I thought.”
“We could take a nap.”
“But I just did!”
“Well maybe I want one.”
The pout intensifies. “...lunch break, then another movie.”
“All right, all right...whatever you say.”
She’s going to make the most out of this rainy day, darn it!
.oOo.
Written for Day 3 of @shuharuweek
Characters: Haru Okumura, Akira Kurusu, others mentioned
Prompt: Movies/Dreams
Notes: October Spoilers, some use of in-game dialogue from both P5 and P5: Dancing in Starlight
---------
For as long as she can remember, Haru dreamt of a handsome prince.
The dream itself initially played out the same. She’d find herself amongst a crowd in a large ornate ballroom. But instead of dancing on the floor, couples danced on a beautiful stage.
That is when a handsome young man approaches her and offers his hand.
“Shall we dance?”
He guides her to the stage and the two begin to dance as everyone watches.
Even after that dream starts to fade with her interest in ballet, Haru continued to see the dashing prince.
Sometimes he looked like the love interest from her favorite show, sometimes he appeared as a handsome actor that Haru saw in a movie, and once the prince was a princess who took on the appearance of a girl that Haru had a brief crush on.
She knew it was silly but the dreams gave her hope of one day meeting her real Prince or Princess Charming…
Then she turned seventeen.
Her father held a dinner party a week after her birthday. He assured her that the celebration was just simply late but Haru couldn’t help but feel that this event had long been planned while he had truly forgotten her birthday until she brought it up.
That was when her father introduced her to him .
Sugimura Takamasa.
Haru hated him immediately but according to a deal between their fathers, she was to marry him after her graduation.
She practically could see her hopes and dreams crumble before her. Instead of a Prince Charming she instead was getting a boorish man who obviously saw her more as a trophy or a plaything than a person.
Her literal dreams were also ruined. Instead of her charming handsome prince coming to sweep her off her feet it was Sugimura. Instead of offering his hand and smiling at her, he would shoot her a wicked smirk and seize her wrists in a firm grip.
The nightmare haunted her for months until eventually she simply accepted her role of the dutiful daughter. What else could she do?
That was what she thought until one day in April, when Haru arrived at Shujin and saw everyone gathered around the bulletin boards. Almost every inch was covered in a black and red card.
“Did Mr. Kamoshida do something wrong?”
“Does this mean the rumors are true?”
This was about Kamoshida-sensei?
Haru walked closer to one of the boards and pulled one of the cards off.
Sir Suguru Kamoshida, the utter bastard of lust. We know how shitty you are, and that you put your twisted desires on students that can’t fight back. That’s why we have decided to steal those desires and make you confess your sins. This will be done tomorrow so we hope you will be ready. From, The Phantom Thieves of Hearts.
Twisted desires? Phantom Thieves? What did this all mean?
Further down the hall, she could hear Kamoshida shouting and demanding who was responsible. Haru quickly put the card into her bag and made her way to class.
The next day, Kamoshida didn’t come to school.
Rumors about this and those mysterious calling cards flooded the school for days.
Until finally on the second of May, he returned to school and as the cards predicted, confessed his sins.
For the next week or so, Kamoshida’s confession was all anyone could talk about along with theories about the “Phantom Thieves” and even a website that was made so that others could ask for their help.
While Haru didn’t follow the gossip, she was still quite interested to see if they would make another move.
Just a few weeks later, news came out about suspicious calling cards scattered near the exhibit hosting the paintings of the famous artist, Madarame. A week after that, Madarame confessed to stealing the art of his pupils and claiming them as his own.
As she watches the footage of Madarame’s tearful confession, Haru feels a spark of hope.
---------
Time went on and Haru found herself becoming more enamoured with the Phantom Thieves. They reminded her a little of the noble heroes she admired as a girl. The ones who would always protect others no matter what.
Then one evening, Haru once again dreamt of Sugimura smirking and attempting to take her for himself. But before he could grab her wrist as before, a new voice rang out.
“Let her go right now!”
Sugimura turned around and was immediately greeted with the point of a knife directed at his throat.
The man before Sugimura was shrouded in shadow along with his companions behind him.
“W-who are you?”
“We are the Phantom Thieves of Heart, defenders of the weak and enemies of those who’d abuse their strength! Do you surrender or shall we steal your twisted desires?”
Without saying another word, Sugimura whimpered and ran off. The leader, while still hidden by the shadows, turned to Haru and smiled.
“Are you alright Haru?”
“H-how do you know my name?”
“Call it a secret of the trade. Shall we head out?” he says as he offers his hand
Haru hesitantly reaches her hand out and the thieves’ leader gently takes it. She walks closer to him and as she reaches him, he lifts her up in a bridal carry. Instead of struggling, she clings closer to the leader as he runs and leaps out a large window with her in his arms.
...Haru’s more than disappointed when she wakes up and realizes it’s a dream.
Months pass and it seems every time the Phantom Thieves make the news, the dream returns. It gets to the point where Sugimura isn’t there anymore and Haru is just swept off her feet by a mysterious dashing rogue. Maybe it was a little childish to dream of someone she’s never met or seen like this. But given the cruelty and coldness she’s seen from the men in her life, Haru wants to believe that her Prince of Thieves is just as she imagined him.
She wonders if she’ll see him again in her dreams tonight when Haru spots a small black and white cat wandering the street.
Wait… wasn’t there a student at Shujin who was said to carry a cat with him? He must be worried sick about his little friend. Haru immediately turned around and started following the cat.
---------
Haru leaned against the wall as she tried to catch her breath.
That was not how she pictured her first meeting with the Phantom Thieves even after tempering her expectations.
“Haru, *pant* you *pant* are you okay?”
That was when Haru noticed that her heart wasn’t just quickly beating from the running…
“You! What do you think it means?”
“One who helps the weak.”
“...I’m fine Mona-chan. Thank you.”
Later that night, Haru once again dreamt of the Phantom Thieves but things were different now. They were no longer covered in shadows, she finally knew what they looked like and she was no longer a princess but a rival thief.
She led Joker on a rooftop chase, the two bantering and flirting along the way. However it wasn’t long before he caught her.
“I must say I’ve underestimated you Beauty Thief.”
“I could say the same to you Joker.”
In that instant, the two pull each other into a passionate kiss.
Haru woke up that morning with her face red and feeling hot.
That… that didn’t mean anything… right?
---------
When she officially became a part of the group it felt like a dream come true for Haru…
And then a nightmare with the death of her father and the public’s turn against the Thieves.
In the days following father’s mental shutdown, gardening once again served as her solace. But even concentrating on the vegetables and flowers on the school rooftop couldn’t keep her mind off her current situation.
“How troubling...”
“Do you want some help?”
She looks up and sees Akira standing next to her with a concerned expression on his face.
“Oh, Akira-kun… have you come up here to assist me? You um… heard that, didn’t you?”
Haru sighs as Akira nods his head.
“I’m not worried about the garden, in case you were wondering. It’s just… so much has happened to me lately.”
Akira places a hand on her shoulder, it’s gentle and warm unlike Sugimura’s possessive grip.
“It’s alright Haru, you can tell me.”
Haru feels her cheeks heating up before telling Akira about her current struggles with Okumura Foods. The pressures of being the company’s largest shareholder, all the meetings with lawyers and officers, and the uncertainty of who to trust.
“I… I never realized I could be so distrustful of other people… ah, I’m sorry for ranting on about this matter.”
“You don’t need to apologize. It sounds like you’ve been holding this in for a while. Do you feel a little better?”
She gives Akira a small sad smile, “Actually… I think I do. I feel like talking about this has calmed me down a bit. The only people I’ve consulted up to this point have been employees. But I think what I really needed was someone closer to my own age… closer to my own viewpoint… Um… if it isn’t too much trouble, could we speak about this again some other time?”
Akira nods, “Of course. Any time you want to talk, I’ll try to be there.”
“Thank you. In return I’ll… hm… what can I do to help you? I don’t have any unique talents...”
“Haru, you don’t need to do anything for me I just want to...”
But before he could refuse, Haru recalled the vegetables she kept in the Home Economics Room. She told Akira to stay there while she rushed downstairs.
As she placed the vegetables in a bag, she thought to herself: It’s funny, usually a girl gives the boy chocolates instead of healthy foods…
...Wait… why did she…
...Oh…
---------
She did it.
She finally gathered the courage to speak with Takakura about her concerns, what she wants to do in the future, and giving her honest thoughts (if not the polite version of them) about Sugimura and the engagement.
Takakura asked her to come to the next staff meeting and promised that he would handle the marriage cancellation. For the first time in a long time Haru felt a weight off her shoulders.
“I was so afraid… but now that it’s over, I think it was honestly pretty simple. I only made it to this point because you were with me though… Th-thank you Akira-kun.”
He gives her that smile that makes her heartbeat so much faster as he replies, “You did amazing.”
She blushes and giggles, “You did too you know?”
Haru tells him that it was thanks to him that she could trust again, that she found her own strength, and that if he ever needed to confide in her; she’ll be there.
...She really fell head over heels for him hadn’t she? Well… if she could be brave enough for this meeting…
“That reminds me… Takakura said something… a little strange, didn’t he? Th-th-that I... like you… Goodness, why would he say that...?”
Akira looked surprised and Haru knew how this dream would end.
“Why do you think…?”
She looked away, bracing herself for his rejection…
But he placed his hands on hers and she turned back to him, there was that same smile.
“I like you too, Haru.”
---------
Haru giggled as she and Akira watched Morgana roll around in her room (well the twins’ recreation of her room but nonetheless.)
“I love how fluffy this carpet is! It’s almost as soft as my fur! A nice sunbath on the balcony would be great too! I’d really be living in the lap of luxury here!”
Akira smirked, “Spoken like a true cat.”
Even if it was unexpected, Haru was happy to have this extra time to spend with her friends and her boyfriend.
The three talked about their time as Phantom Thieves with Akira and Morgana both telling her how much she had grown since they had all first met.
It’s then that a thought occurs to her. A memory of an old dream.
“There’s something else I’m happy about, too.”
“Oh?” Asked Akira
She tells him about her dreams of the dashing prince escorting her to the stage.
“That dream fell by the wayside when I quit ballet, but now, it’s actually come true. But… I know that the moment I awaken, I’ll forget all about it. Almost like a spell being broken. I wish it didn’t have to end. I’d love to have more time to spend with my Prince of Thieves.”
“Well then I guess we’ll just have make our next dance unforgettable.”
Akira chuckles as he pulls her closer for a kiss. Haru smiles as she returns it. It reminds her that even when this dream ends, another still came true.
Cutscene : The Lavender Gala
The twins travel back to the base was quiet, Lye seemed lost meaning Van had to lead her the majority of the way. The moment they stepped through the threshold of the loft, she kicked off her shoes and made her way to the bed not so much as greeting Kash or Russ. She threw herself onto the bed, grabbing one of the pillows she held it close to her body curling up around it.
"I take that it didn't go as planned?" Kash stated the obvious, he sat at the counter next to Russ who was going over some information on his scroll.
"Nope, I'll explain more later but how fast do you think we could get me a suit?" Van folded his arms thinking, his left leg began to bounce slowly.
Kash and Russ looked to each other before leaning in closer to Van, they recognized that he was coming up with a plan for something. The afternoon continued with the boys speaking in hushed voices in the kitchen as Lye remained up in the bedroom.
------
Nava grew up with events like these being prominent in her life, she grew used to the rooms full of people paired with the empty formalities. This was one of the more open ones, the focus being the latest Spring collection meaning they were playing to potential buyers as well as entertaining loyal investors. There was a dinner with music and dancing before the main event, no expense was sparred.
She managed to slip away excusing herself to the bathroom, the meeting with the twins had been weighing on her mind the entirety of the evening. She didn't care too much for these events, but her guilty consious wasn't helping her in the slightest to get through the evening. Her heels clicked against the marbled floors as she walked through the empty hall, she paused her stride glancing around make sure no one else was in the hallway before moving aside the curtains and slipping out onto the balcony. She closed the ornate glass door behind her quietly, the balcony looked over the main courtyard in the garden. She stepped out to the end, closing her eyes and basking in the chilly evening breeze.
The special thing about this particular balcony was that it was one of the few places on the estate that was considered a blindspot. It gave her the chance to breathe freely. Since her return many have practically pounced at the chance to use her to build a relationship to her parents. The majority of her social interaction felt hollow and rehearsed. Outside of Cinnamon and Slate those she considered friends were sparse.
"Y'know your securities pretty shit. They let me through no problem, I dunno if they just assumed I was part of the staff cause of my ears or if they were just so distracted dashing good looks and charm. Either way I expected more of a challenge."
Nava flinched at the voice, she hadn't heard him approach. She didn't even sense his aura, her lack of training was showing clear as day. She was getting rusty.
"Still so full of yourself I see." She looked him over, his hair was swept back out of his face, the suit he wore was one assigned to their staff for this particular event. If anything figured he ditched whatever tray he was suppose to have some vicarious way. Had she not known him she would have assumed he was just another staff member.
Van gave a grin, he leaned back against a wall bring a black wrapped cigarette to his lips. A orange glow illuminated his face as he lit the cigarette, the light caught his ruby red eyes making it look as though they were glowing.
Since leaving their meeting something didn't sit right with him, he considered himself good at reading people. So had he missed or overlooked something that would explain Nava's attitude, there was no way he had gone soft. He wasnt just being hopeful...was he? Optimism was never a good look on him, he knew that and still.
"What's your deal?" He asked her straight out, he tilted his head.
"Deal? I just came to my senses, is that so hard to believe." She rolled her eyes. "Why am I even humoring you, I should just call security."
"It is hard to believe." He stated ignoring her other statement, he took a drag from the cigarette. "Can ya guess why? Because the girl who's spouting off about how its nonsense for someone of her status to considering being a Hunteress is also the same girl who was seething when she saw people boarding air ships instead of staying behind to help. The same girl who told me it's our job to help people. Something that makes you home hmm isnt it?" He let out a puff of smoke, using the cigarette to point at her.
"Weren't you always one for theatrics? It useful to know what one favors when you have to play to them, ah but you know that quite well don't you. With your previous line of work." She knew he was sensitive about his time in the White Fang so she decided to prod at the topic.
"That's true, I think I'm pretty good at it. I'm pretty good at telling it apart too, only took me a day or two to pick apart the perfect little heiress act." It didn't seem to work, she had to press harder.
"Yet you couldn't pick apart the one that followed. The naive wide-eyed worked far better than I ever expected, even on a stone-cold killer like yourself."
"...." She watched as his gaze sharpened, he didn't respond.
"I already had to lower myself to point of sharing a room with not one, but two Faunus and one was also a killer. Can you imagine my shock, ugh it still makes me shiver how easy the other two accepted you. I bet they were just scared what you could possibly do to them while they slept, after hearing what you had done how could they not. It was like a monster in the closet except the monster was in the bed across the room."
Even with the lack of light she could the sharp snap of the cigarette as his jaw clenched, his hand moved for a brief moment she had thought he was going for a weapon instead he scratched at his forearm. It was a habit she noticed from as far back as when they were assigned on the team together, she had never pointed it out assuming she would have time another time to do so. Clearly she wouldnt, she was practically holding a torch to the bridge before her.
"Now why don't hop along little bunny, I already have one scurrying rodent serving me I dont need another at the moment." She felt guilty for how she was refering to him and Cinnamon, she knew neither of twins looked being referred to as bunny in such a way but she had to end this. "You should be grateful generosity, why is such a trait so hard to find in your kind."
"Tch." He tossed his cigarette off to the side stomping on it, he stepped forward not to Nava but passed her. Hopping up onto the railing, he spared a glancing at her before hopping off disappearing into the darkness and foliage.
She wait a few beats before she dropped to her knees, there weren't any cameras here she knew that and yet she still didn't try to apologize or inform of her current situation. Was she a bad person? She could have told him, knowing Van he could have helped her. Why didn't she just speak truthfully with him?
She brought her hands to her face and sighed heavily, she decided she would have a few drinks tonight. She stood up fixing her appearance before went to open the door and reenter the event. She felt thick cord like ropes wrap around her, in an instant her mouth was covered and limbs restricted. She tried to the activate her Semblance, her eyes went wide with fear as she couldn't even force open her palms. The cord wound tightly around her hands balling them into fist, who ever was behind this either knew her Semblance and did this intentionally or she just had really bad luck.
"That was far too easy." She heard an unfamiliar voice speak and a pair of footsteps land on the balcony.
"Wasn't she suppose to be one of the harder ones to snag?" The other figure commented as they approached Nava's tangled body, she could see any identifying features. Both figures wore heavy cloaks and peculiar owl mask. She could feel her heartbeat pounding in her ears.
Hearing a loud shattering of glass and the sounds of screams, she thrashed around in a panic.
"Stop that! Don't be troublesome." The figure that the aura rope seemed to be coming from spoke with an annoyed groan, she felt it tighten around her body. A strangled gasp slipped from her lips as it tightened around her neck as well.
"Hey! The doctor's going to get upset if she comes back too beat up." The first figure spoke again hitting the other in the shoulder.
Feeling the rope loose and a figure behind her she leaned forward before reeling back smashing her head into the face of one of her captors. The returned force of the mask hurt the crown of her head, but that hurt far less than the impact with the wall as she was slammed against it.
Her vision spotted before going black completely, the last she heard was alarms and shouting.
------
Van let out a frustrated groan, in a swift movement he raised his leg and turned. Venting some of his frustration by kick the streetlamp, the metal creaked as it bent forward. He hadn't intended to hit it so hard, he was just upset okay?
He gritted his teeth, the dress shows he was wearing weren't as protective as the metal toe boots he typically wore. He continued his walk home despite the stinging in his toes.
'I missed something I had to have missed something, I've been out of the game too long dealing with people is harder than Grimm. People can be unpredictable.....but they use to be so easy to read..'
'You've gone soft. You like her too much to believe she was playing you.' The voice in the back of his head countered. 'You should know better, Amorette was just the same.'
He scratched at his forearm, he needed to stop slacking. Lye, Russ, and Kash expected him to be their cool unfazed leader, he had to uphold their expectations.
It was far into the evening when he got home, he opened the door sliping the dress shoes off in the entrance. As the door shut blocking out the street light from outside his eyes sharpened and adjusted to the sudden darkness.
His gaze met another two other pair as Kash and Russ had stirred from their slumber, it was a habit that came with their line of work.
When both saw that it him they both returned to their previous position, Van grabbed a pair of pajama pants and headed to the restroom. The loft apartment didn't have a shower so he had to settle with washing the product out of his hair by shoving it in the sink.
He hung up the suit before joining to other two in his usual position it the middle, doubts and scenarios plagued his mind resulting in little sleep.
------
Jae awoke to sound of the TV from the main room, he didn't pay too much attention. He considered pulling the cover over his head and sleeping until late, but he knew that would only result in a scolding from Opal. With a groan he threw off the covers and got out of bed, make his way to the bathroom he shared with Leo. After washing his face and brushing his teeth he made his way to the main room of the suite, it was quite nice comfortable housing Jae and the three adults. The places they had stayed were all provided through the company Tarragon and Opal were under.
He passed Opal who was sitting on the couch watching some daytime news show, entering the kitchen he opened a cabinet and gathered what he needed for cereal. He sat at the counter lazily eating going over notes he had from his last session with Leo.
"...attack at the Lavender gala last night has resulted in 3 dead, 4 injured, and 9 missing. " One of the hosts from the talk show brought up, hearing the name caught Jae's attention. Since they arrived in Mistril he became more aware of how prominent the Lavender name was, it was somewhat jarring to see the face of the same girl who nearly burnt down the Beacon dorm's kitchen atleast once a week on the front page of multiple magazines.
It took a him a second to process what he heard, the conversation the host were having moved forward. He abandoned his cereal bowl to stand behind the couch, he stated at the tv his brows furrowing as more information was given.
"I thought you didn't like this show." Opal commented glancing at him over her shoulder.
"I don't, but I know her." Jae muttered a response, gaze focused on the screen as a slideshow of pictures of those missing were shown with their names listed.
"Who?" She ask, he pointed to the screen as another image of Nava popped up. "Nava Lavender? How? Wait, we've been in Mistril for how many weeks and you're just now mention you know the Lavenders?"
"I know one Lave-" He cut himself off as screenshots of security footage were shown, in most situation he would have written the situation off as the Lavenders needing to heavily update their security but the brief figures he saw at the edge of the screens told him this was more than that.
There barely entering the side of the screen were figures wearing ornate owl mask, she slideshow stopped with a mention of there having been a cut in the footage that they managed to get their hands on.
"Did you see that?" Opal gave a confused look before Jae took the note backing up into the program and pausing on the last screenshot.
"Call Cherry." She commanded standing up and rushing to the room she shared with Cherry to retrieve her laptop.
That morning the group had been out, Russ though taking Lye would help her get over the disappointment of the day before's meeting. They had seen her spiral before, so he didn't want to leave her alone in that state. He decided to take her to get groceries for dinner, maybe window shop some while they were out.
Van and Kashmere had head to a nearby guild for mission postings, taking lower rank ones helped with laying low and the people requesting tended to overlook their lack of official liscense. The only down side was the lower pay, the higher paying ones that would let them work were trickier to sniff out through just the description list"Wheres the next exam being held? If you and Lye go take it and get your official licenses you could sign as teachers for me and Russ." Kash suggested as he scrolled through the screen of missions, he was starting to grow bored with simple Grimm bounties.
"We could, but we dont have anyone to sign off for us. Our dad can't remember?" Van pointed out.
"Remind me why that is?" Kash knew that it had been mentioned to him before but he couldnt quite recall.
"The kingdoms dont recognize tribesmen as the same level as Hunters, theres a different category or something for them." Van explained in simple terms, his father had the skills of a Huntsman even more really and he had trained all of the Marigold children to the extent of unlocking their aura at the bare minimum. It ticked it off a bit to see someone so close to him skills go unacknowledged, but he knew that if the laws were to change suddenly many Hunters would be upset. In his opinion if the person had the right set of skills what did it matter if they went through the academies.
"That's kinda bullshit." Kashmere commented tone deadpan which earned a chuckle from Van, the rabbit's ears shifted picking up on a conversation nearby.
"They're seriously sending these out to posting all over Mistril?" A tall man stated with a surprised tone to his short companion.
"Crazy right? But if my daughter was missing I'd doing anything to get her back." The androgynous short figure next to the man responded.
"That's true, the Lavender girl was probably the perfect target for those creeps. She so sweet and docile, almost like a doll." The pair continued their conversation about taking the job or not.
She had made him so angry the night before, but hearing that she was missing made his stomach drop. Even if what she had told him was said with the intent to hurt, she had still been his friend. She was still the girl who cried during romcoms, the same girl who had her ears pierced in their cramped first year dorm room. He ran a hand through his hair growing frustrated with his own conflicted feelings.
"Let's head back, Lye and Russ are probably already back at the house." He gestured for Kash to follow him out of the building and start heading back to the apartment.
--
Russ held the paper bag filled with the ingredients they needed for dinner tonight, the pair took their time to look into the window displays of shops as they passed by. Lye's stride slowed as they passed a bakery, a few pastries would be nice to have to tomorrow morning.
"Let's grab a few." She nodded towards the door, she held it open letting him in first. Russ looked curiously over the sweet smelling confections that currently sat in the display. The bakery had a small coffee bar where a few people sat, their attention was directed at the small tv stationed on the wall, the women behind the counter watched as well.
Curiously Lye approached, on the screen was the tearful face of Koa Lavender. Her hands gripped the sides of the podium she stood at as she spoke her voice wavering every so often. The mother begged and pleaded calling on local Hunters to take up the mission the family was offering for Nava's return, struggling to get through her words she turned burying her face into her husband's chest who took over the conversation. Maru Lavender gave the numbers of where to find the information required to take up the mission, before giving a final plead as well as the conference finally ended.
"Poor girl, she must be worried sick." One of the patrons muttered, bringing her coffee cup to her lips.
"What happened?" Lye spoke up softly, her stomach was twisting in discomfort.
"Apparently there was an attack at the Lavender event last night, Maru and Koa's daughter was one of the people taken. They're offering a pretty hefty reward for her return." Another patron explained, expression compassionate as they looked at the screen.
Russ brought a few pastries before they left, Lye carried the box. She had gone quiet on their way back to the apartment.
"Are you worried about her?"
"Of course. Even if our meeting didn't go how we wanted it I never wished for her to get hurt."
"Well her parents seemed pretty adamant about doing everythin' in their power to find her so I'm sure it'll turn out alright." Russ tried to reassure Lye, her ears had folded against her head a clear sign of her shift in mood.
"Oh?" He rose a brow noticing the figure standing in front of their apartment door, he moved to stand in front of Lye contious not able to see the strangers face yet.
"Cinnamon?" Lye muttered recognize the mouse Faunus from behind, hearing the name clicked instantly in Russ's head.
"What're you doing here?" Van voice surprised both Lye and Cinnamon as he and Kashmere approached from the other side.
----
"Please! I know how harshly Nava was in your last meeting, but you have to understand the position she in." Cinnamon looked at the group with wide pleading eyes, they had brought her in. Van suspension on why the Lavender servant had shown up at their door step.
"Why us?"
"I saw your fights from the festival and read your mission reviews, you two are skilled and I assume those who you travel with are as well, and someone under the radar such as yourselves would have an advantage in your search." She glanced to Kash and Russ briefly.
"We not official hunters, they wont offer us the job."
"I-I can get you the information. Just come with em to the estate and I can transfer everything to your scrolls."
"We can atleast see the information and see if it's in our range of abilities." Lye spoke up glancing to the others.
"That's not your desicion."
"But you gotta admit the rewards pretty appealing, would be useful." Russ placed a hand on Van's shoulder, he had a soft spot for Lye.
"That's only if we succeed with the mission..." Van paused looking between Kashmere, Russ, and Lye they were a team he reminded himself. "Do you all want to do this?"
"At least taking a look at the info doesn't sound too bad." Kash gave a small nod.
Seeing that the group appeared to accept her offer Cinnamon sat up hopefully. "Then let's make haste to the estate." She stood, the group needed a moment to gather their things and proceed to follow the mouse Faunus to the car she had taken their apartment.
------
"Showing up personally allows us not only a look at the incident area, but can give us a personal edge on the job." Opal explained as they approached the gate to the estate, she was quick in the preparations for this meeting. They likely wouldn't be permitted to see the heads of the house yet, but they'd be the first team to observe the area. As dire as the situation may be the family didn't intend to handle the information so sloppily.
"Cherry Tarragon, Opal Amas, Jae Aryl, Leo Cornel." Slate took note of the IDs on his scroll as the group was led to meet him at the front of the main building, the name Aryl caught his attention. What was it with Nava's old teammate showing up out of the blue.
"Follow me please." He began to lead them to a meeting room to give out the information they had currently and discuss any question they may have.
At the same time Cinnamon was leading her group through the back entrance through the servant quarters and through winding hallways. She would have to take them to a room out of the way to avoid crossing with any visiting Hunters.
All was going as planned until Lye came to a sudden halt at one of the gaps in the hallway that led down to the one over.
"Jae?"
"Lye?"
