the superfam tag is just batfam 2.0 tag. where are the women??? where are the men of colour??? why is it only clark, kon and jon??? and why are they always in the presence of a bat??? WHY???
(i love the boys, don’t get me wrong. clark is literally my second all-time favourite character. but the superfam is more than three white dudes.)

No, you can't do "Superfam headcanons" while excluding John-Henry, Natasha, Kenan, Otho, Osul and Jay. They are literally superfam canonically. Steel is core to the superfam mythos, they show that you do not need to be kryptonian or powered to wear the symbol and what truly matters is your heart and your courage to fight for what's right, Kenan introduced the Justice League of China and critiques Clark's POV and how he is very limited to an american perspective. Jay is called The Truth, as in from "truth, justice and a better tomorrow", if you read a superman comic "truth" is italicized every other time and he's the representation of THAT. Ask yourself really hard why you are excluding all the POC/queer characters in the headcanons but don't hesitate to include Random White Kryptonian from 1976 as close personal family and Bruce Wayne and Tim Drake are also here, for some reason.

“I would say Mox. Mox, Bryan, Eddie. Those are probably three of the people, probably my top three favorite wrestlers of all time. My top five would be Bryan, Mox, Eddie, Sasha Banks, and then five is probably a rotating door of Katsuyori Shibata or Mark Henry or Shinsuke Nakamura or something like that. But the top four. That’s Mox, Bryan, Eddie, Sasha Banks. That’s locked in. I don’t think that’ll ever change.”

Steelworks #2
Not going to lie I did not expect to see Jay in this but Mr. Dorn really is bringing in the whole superfam for his series which I am living for.
In light of Jay's hero identity being leaked and his precarious situation both politically while being "Superman's Boyfriend" there doesn't seem to be many options for employment honestly if he wanted to remain in Metropolis. His role as the 'face' of The Truth (an Anonymous equivalent) also appears to be either compromised or nebulous. I can't remember if it was revealed who he was in relation to The Truth or if this was just a detail that was dropped as that conflict is now over.
Jay being a Press Officer for Steelworks is interesting and I am curious to see how this is going to fit in with his character. I would never have guessed him working in public relations was something on the horizon but considering the chaos his life was he deserves something more calm and normal.
Also, I am loving his banter with John.

Steelworks #2
Not sure if his Anonymous style reporting days are over but it was nice to see him slip into something normal.

The Importance of Names in Superman: Son of Kal-El
Fans of Rebirth Superman and Super Sons might think of one character when this point is brought up, but there are multiple instances of names betraying a deeper intent in the writing. None are more telling in my view than Jay Nakamura.
Tumblr media
On the surface his name may not strike you as odd. An English given name with a Japanese surname could indicate Jay is biracial. Given his mother's name is Sarah, this could very well be the case if she married in to her last name, but the typical Japanese comic character or real-life Japanese immigrants to Western countries have a traditional Japanese given name rather than an English one because unlike other East Asian languages like Mandarin or Korean, Japanese shares phonetics that are easy for Westerners to Romanize and pronounce. This is but one of many strange story beats that made me obsessed with this comic, and I believe I have sussed out the reasoning after 17 long months.

The perfectly even divide between the city folks and country folks in superfam leading to shenanigans when they all go to visit Ma & Pa's place.
Clark, Kon, Jon, Lana, Ma & Pa are doing just fine. Like they see the animals and know how to react, they've planned a real fun horse-riding lesson on the local ranch and plan to take them to the local poultry farm! They're gonna show their loved ones how they lived and how much fun they had here as kids, surely, they will all have a blast.
Vs.
Lois, Jay, Kenan, Nat, Paige, Kara and John-Henry who are all born and raised in cities and are running screaming praying for this to end. All the chickens hate them. Lois has been assimilated, she is terrified but used to it. Jay is convinced the cow is going to kill him. John-Henry walks in with confidence and leaves wishing he never tried ANYTHING. Paige is staying a very safe distance away with her phone out and recording for posterity (blackmail). Nat just laughs at everyone and when they ask "hey, hey why aren't you trying anything?" she runs for the hills and Kara is really trying but "Kal, I love you, I am going back to space, do not call me for the next week."

Superfam Members
Since there seem to have been some confusion as to which characters are included in the Superfamily as far as this week is concerned, we decided to clear things up a bit. So here is a list including all the characters for which we will accept submissions for (note: this means that your fanwork has to include at least one of those characters. You can also include whatever other characters you want, as long as one of the following characters is the central focus):
Clark Kent
Lois Lane
Ma and Pa Kent
Jimmy Olsen
Kara Zor-El
Kon El/Conner Kent
Mae Kent/Matrix
Linda Danvers
Karen Starr/Paige Stetler
Superpets (krypto, streaky, etc)
Natasha Irons
John Henry Irons
Lana Lang
Jon Kent
Chris Kent
Otho Ra
Osul Ra
Cir El
Jor El and Lara Lor-Van
Other canon Earth versons of Superman/Supergirl/etc (see: Calvin Ellis, Val Zod, etc)
Other characters such as Lucy Lane or Perry White, as well as other superfam love interests (Lori Lemaris, Jay Nakamura, Brainiac 5, etc) and reformed villains (Lex Luthor, Bizzaro, Silver Banshee, etc) are considered a supporting cast, and thus submissions about them will only be reblogged if they include one of the characters from the above list as well.
