2nd hearing test today and it looks normal thank FUCKKK. well ofc I'm still deaf, normal For Me
#actually idr if i mentioned it on here before i think i typed a rant and then closed the app before i hit post#but basically just a jumpscare my last audio tone graph came out Bad and they were like aw fuck youve lost a lot more hearing#which is WORRYING bc my deafness is sensorineural ie. from auditory nerve/brain damage not physical damage#so if it was suddenly getting worse well nothing they can rly do to figure out WHY its getting worse let alone try to fix it#but nah second test came out pretty much the same as usual. i think maybe bc i did the other one at the end of the day instead of early#morning maybe my auditory processing was just worse or smth it happens lol#well anyway they took fresh moulds so should be able to replace my 3 year old ones in a few weeks yayy#and im on the waiting list for new hearing aids with them too...and once i get them i can get an accessory to hook em to bluetooth#altho the nhs prolly wont cover it. but access to work should do if it comes to that 👍#my life is gonna get so much fucking easier when i can tune them into shit instead of switching them for super loud earphones#anyway gotta get my ass to work now blegh. always feels weird having my workday routine broken up#.diaries

not fl related but lol + also lmao. Almost forgot I have an appointment w the audiologist again tomorrow after work
#she recommended hearing aids at the last appointment but I'm still on the fence#my hearing sensitivity is technically within normal levels on the metrics (but low tones on the left side are on the border)#but my auditory processing is hot garbage apparently lol#the cutoff for ''normal'' on the initial screening was a 2. I scored an 8 (that's a lot apparently)#so we're doing another test today and then like will talk abt options. it just feels kinda weird ig#like idk. there's some part of me that feels like it's overkill and potentially taking resources from people who ACTUALLY need them#I don't wanna be dramatic and like my family (though mostly my mom) are really against the idea#it'd be situational use (primarily work/social outings where I expect things to be more hectic and noisy)#which is part of what kinda like. idk. makes it feel weird?#like I NEED my glasses. I legally can't drive without them. I can't really FUNCTION without them#that feels like a legitimate claim and need as an aid#but smth I can just choose not to ever use and still get by feels like. different I guess#idk. hurgh. sorry for tag rambles.

dear lord. i wish navigating the medical world as a trans person was not so awful.
#Multiple problems now#im so afraid to talk to my ENT doctor because he still misgenders me since the last time i saw him over 2 years ago and long before i passe#he just in general gives me such bad vibes and i think he really fucked up the surgery he gave me on my nose too#hes so annoying to talk to its like he doesn't know how to talk to his patients#im trying to figure out how to get hearing aids and he was like#hi you don't need anything from me just take your hearing test to a dispenser :)#so unhelpful?? like my hearing test from two years ago?? shouldn't i get a new one first?? also what dispensers??#and im scared to see him in person again because i now pass#like i feel like that would be so awkward#i need to just talk to my mom about this but im so upset and frustrated#and dont even get me started on my insurance company#being so annoying about letting me get top surgery#vent#this is so upsetting for me :(

After months of saying I'd get around to it, finally sculpted Cordula's hearing aids. They are TEENSY and I still have more sanding to do after I bake them lol. Also made a cane that DEFINITELY will be sanded a bit for her so :)

I havent sculpted w clay since elementary school so please forgive me. it'll get sanded after it bakes to hopefully#be smoother :) and then ill cover it w a high gloss varnish and paint in some parts :)#the small bits are her hearing aid pieces that go in and behind her ear; some small balls to test out earrings for another bigger doll; a#little marker/pencil since shes big into doodling and art :)#they are SO tiny rn tho that it's hard to tell i think? but trust me ok#idk HOW ill get wire between each of the hearing aid pieces but. ill figure it out. probably

as it turns out my city DOES have an adult learn-to-play hockey league so now i get to live out my recover(ing/ed) bitch dreams and play h o c k e y.
#full tuition for ASL classes at the local institute for the Deaf and Blind is under $100#local ballet company has non-professional adult classes for $18/class or $160 upfront for 10 classes#life is too short to not invest in things that bring me joy#(not to mention that i do have progressive hearing loss and i WILL get to a point where i won’t be able to reliably hear shit#without hearing aids my insurance is currently refusing to cover. so ASL for me n zach is not only an interest thing but just…#a smart thing to do.)#i love saying ‘my hearing is going to get to the point where i won’t be able to hear much wo aids’#like my hearing tests aren’t a mess#50db range of loss but instead of missing high frequency sounds#my mid frequency is subpar at best and my low frequency is dog shit#‘yes i can hear that faint high pitched ringing. no i cannot hear music in the car if the volume is lower than 20/40. we exist.’#anyways i digress

YES!! ABSOLUTELY YES!! As an audiology student, I see so many people finally make the choice that they want to hear better!! They want to hear their grandchildren’s choir performances and their wife’s voice and their children laugh!! And they come in, do the hearing test, tell us how long it’s taken them to realize how much they are missing because they just can’t hear, and then when we look at their benefits (if they even have them) and insurance won’t cover them. So not only are hearing aids incredibly expensive to buy and maintain, but even WITH insurance there is no guarantee that you’ll get any coverage, much less GOOD coverage. It is beyond heartbreaking to tell these people who were so ready and excited to have access to sound again that they will have to pay thousands of dollars they might not have out of pocket because their health insurance will cover the visit and the tests but not the treatment for those test results.
wheelchairs and canes and glasses and hearing aids and every single other disability aid should be free btw and if you disagree i hate you
