Maximizing Performance: Best Practices for Using Self-contained Breathing Apparatus
Tumblr media
Self-contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) serves as a critical tool for firefighters, providing them with vital respiratory protection in hazardous environments. To ensure optimal performance and safety, it is essential for firefighters to adhere to best practices when using SCBA during firefighting operations. By following established guidelines and protocols, firefighters can maximize the effectiveness of their SCBA and enhance overall operational performance.
Proper inspection and maintenance of Self-contained Breathing Apparatus are paramount to ensuring its reliability and functionality during firefighting operations. Before each use, firefighters should conduct a thorough inspection of their SCBA, checking for any signs of damage, wear, or malfunction. This includes examining the facepiece, regulator, air cylinder, harness assembly, and other components for any defects or deficiencies. Routine maintenance tasks, such as replacing worn-out parts and conducting functional tests, should also be performed regularly to keep SCBA in optimal working condition.
Training plays a crucial role in maximizing the performance of Self-contained Breathing Apparatus and ensuring that firefighters can effectively operate and maintain their equipment in the field. Firefighters should receive comprehensive training on the proper use, care, and maintenance of SCBA, including donning and doffing procedures, emergency procedures, and troubleshooting techniques. Regular training drills and exercises help reinforce proper SCBA usage and familiarize firefighters with operational procedures in simulated firefighting scenarios.

Noticed something a little funky in the world around you and want to figure out what's up? Especially if there might be something you ought to be doing about it? Not sure what information sources to trust these days? If you're in the US, federal agencies like NOAA, USGS, EPA and more collect massive amounts of scientific data every day, much of which is publicly available online - if you know where to look.
A PDF version with clickable links is available for free on my itchio page (quakeandquiver); I'll add a direct link in a reblog.

Doing Gale's Act 3 romance scene with Durge after going to Bhaal's temple is so funny bc Gale is like "The Outer Planes. This is where gods dwell." while showing Durge this beautiful purple space sea and Durge thinks "my god of a father made me live in the literal fucking SEWER!"

CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT BUCK I LOVE LUCKY BUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! pronouns personality fun facts etc I love buck…
Kingyoto uses he/him pronouns, but is a girl.
^ to Salmonids, pronouns are indicative of statues and act more like honorifics. Due to Inklish not having terms in their language that properly suit this idea, the translation leaves “he/him” to most blue collar class working common folk, and “she/her” to running salmonids and Salmonids who are probably destined to Run later in life…
Kingyoto is probably the only salmonid in Hazard Relief, Inkopolis isn’t a super diverse area, being primarily inklings, and he didn’t speak much if at all ANY Inklish. He could understand the language (to an extent), but has trouble mimicking the vocal notes used in the language.
Started working in Hazard Relief when he was 13, it was near a not-fully developed AC TOKYO, and it wasn’t under the name “Hazard Relief,” he would sift and pull Salmonid remains from up the river, where Salmonids die or get killed in the Homerun. Eventually Senshin Corp. got formed, and provided a more “elegant” approach to these jobs.
When more jobs in this position opened up— Kingyoto decided to move to Inkopolis solely because he’s a die hard Squid Sisters fan.
Kingyoto lives pretty far from the Grizzco office where he works, this is because most houses near Inkopolis don’t follow the housing standard in Salmonid communities (needing a certain humidity content, needing a certain type of bed, etc etc.)
Fido taught Kingyoto most of the Inklish he knows, Kingyoto’s job was initially heavy lifting since Inklings couldn’t go in the water, but he somehow managed to climb the ranks slightly.
Kingyoto is certified to manage a few heavy machines. Likes to make sure they’re in tip top condition.
Kingyoto has a shitty truck that he’s been driving before he was even legally allowed to. It has about 4 different radios inside of it because he keeps forgetting to get rid of the ones that break.
Likes to attend after work get togethers, but doesn’t drink. He’s subjected to way too many Drunk Comments (tm) at a time, tends to be very patient despite it.
He likes honey flavored foods and drinks, which seems to be a popular beverage in Salmonid cities (and tastes very different from Honey teas), it is NOT so popular in Inkopolis. He manages with honey - vanilla teas though.

Fiberglass in humans has been found to cause:
Skin, eye and upper respiratory tract irritation in humans
Lung disorders and
Increased risk for certain cancers
It also hurts the shellfish ability to digest food and reproduce, alongside causing inflammation
Fiberglass is a type of plastic material that is made stronger by having little fibers of glass woven into it.
Classified as marine debris, man made materials are polluting the world’s oceans.
Mussels and oysters are commonly used to study microparticle contamination of the aquatic environment and their consequent biological effects.

Despite what Big Tobacco hopes you'll believe, vaping is smoking. Don't be a sucker for an industry which has killed or inflicted serious disease upon hundreds of millions of people around the world over the past 100+ years.
Vaping (E-Cigarettes)
And even if you don't care about your health, there's the matter of what disposable vapes do to the environment.
Vape Waste: The environmental harms of disposable vapes U.S. throws out 4.5 disposable vapes per second

Recycling Centre Site Visit ✨
Today I had the opportunity to visit the Hazardous Waste Recycling Centre in Gateshead (i): a tour organised by Suez, the site owner ♻️
I am pleased with how transparent Laura and Hannah, our guides, have been while explaining what happens to the local recycling and general waste. No question has been left unanswered, and topics have been discussed with the most environmentally friendly tone: everything led to the concept of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle 🙌🏻
The overall experience exceeded my expectations as the amount of knowledge I gained was HUGE ⛰️
This is how I would summarise today’s experience in few points:
1. Disposable vapes are a PROBLEM 💨
Strangely classified by UK Legislation as “toys, leisure and sport equipment”, they have been responsible for numerous fires at the recycling centre. E-cigarettes contain lithium batteries, which can easily ignite when segregated with the other waste streams. Furthermore, recycling one 200L barrel full of disposable vapes costs more than £2000 😰
2. Machines that sort general waste out DO NOT EXIST ⚙️
Due to complex composition of general waste, there is no machine or automated process able to effectively separate non-recyclables from recyclables that ended up in the general waste. At Suez, sorting is done BY HANDS 🤲🏻
3. Energy-from-Waste (EFW) requires A LOT of ENERGY ⚡️
Suez’s EFW facility has the potential to generate enough electricity to power 30.000 homes via waste incineration. However, the majority of energy goes back into the facility to keep the process going: fire is on 24/7 🔥
4. Separate food waste segregation at home is COMING SOON 🍔
Around 6.5 MILLION tonnes of food waste come from households every year. The shocking thing is: around 70% of that food waste IS STILL EDIBLE when people dispose of it (4.5 MILLION tonnes). Suez compared it to 90 Royal Albert Halls! 😱
5. Load contamination is a serious thing ☣️
Staff works hard every day to ensure skips contain the waste they have been designed for. When hazardous materials get in the same bin with recyclables, the WHOLE load becomes hazardous. This means that all the waste contained in that bin is very likely to lose its recycling potential. As it has been said today: “It is better losing some recycling in the general waste than contaminating an entire load of recycling and losing all of it” 😞 This is such a powerful sentence.
For those interested in knowing about waste disposal and recycling, I strongly recommend this experience. Event details can be found on Eventbrite and many waste sites are available for tour booking 🤩
Ah, forgot this: IT’S FREE 🤯

Video Game Track Bracket Round 2
Field of Souls from Hades
youtube
vs.
Valve Theme (extended)/Hazardous Environments from Half-Life/Half-Life 2
youtube
Propaganda under the cut. If you want your propaganda reblogged and added to future polls, please tag it as propaganda or otherwise indicate this!
Field of Souls:
It has a slow build like most of the tracks on the album, but when it kicks in it REALLY kicks in. It starts off with the chiller versions for walking around the region and having normal enemy encounters, and then about halfway through switches to the mini-boss and region boss version. That's where the real rock kicks in with a bunch of gritty guitar and drums. This song in particular just feels so heavy, and I love it.
