starboy - jamal musiala.
requested by - anon.
request - jamal musiala imagine for the crazy 8-0 win against damstadt today 🩷 maybe he takes you out for dinner or to celebrate with teammates. whatever you’d like 🤗 thx
author’s note - i’m not really good at writing scenes with teammates so i decided for them to just have a cozy night in. and i also made her famous as well, but didn’t specify what reader does. hope you enjoy and don’t mind!!!
Tumblr media
unfortunately you couldn’t make it to jamal’s game today. but you made sure to support by checking the scoreline every now and then whilst at work.
you were on your way home at half time and it was currently nil-nil.
jamal sent you a photo from the changing rooms, a quick selfie with alphonso davies. you heart reacted to the photo and sent him a ‘good luck’ before switching your phone off.
turning the television on, you managed to just catch harry kane’s goal and you smiled at the screen when you saw jamal running up to him.
your dog ran up to you and you picked him up, relaxing back onto the sofa to get into the match before jamal got home.
jamal loved it when you complimented him and especially after a match. it made him feel king of the world hearing your terms of endearment.
another goal went by and then you saw jamal kick the ball, and you jumped from the sofa. cheering, you switched your phone on to send him a selfie of you in front of the television.
you were immediately being tagged in tweets on twitter as soon as the goal happened and you even retweeted a few, knowing how your fans went crazy for you and jamal.
the match was nearly finished, and you were in shock at the score. jamal had made it 7-0 and then it ended 8-0.
he rang you immediately after and the smile on his face was contagious. “i can’t believe it, bambi! eight nil!”
jamal laughed at you, “me neither. i can’t wait to come home and see you.”
you knew he’d be a good two hours yet so you spent that time cleaning up the house and even managed to take the dog on a walk before jamal’s car pulled up in the driveway.
“hey, starboy!” you cheered, causing jamal to laugh and wrap his arms around your waist. his head was buried in the crook of your neck and you kissed his forehead lightly.
“did you see my second goal? that was for you.”
his dimples shown in his cheeks by how big he was smiling. you loved jamal’s smile. it made your stomach feel warm inside.
“it was amazing. you played so well, i’m so proud of you.”
even though you had been dating for a year, jamal still got nervous around you. which is why he pulled away because of the blush painted on his cheeks.
“i was thinking we could have a quiet night in. maybe order something and watch a couple of halloween films,” jamal told you.
it was a good idea so once you had looked at takeout menus and decided on eating chinese food.
“which one, hocus pocus or halloween?”
“duh, hocus pocus.”
the pair of you settled in with your food and the film on, your dog at the bottom of your sofa resting his head on your knees.
“you’re my starboy, you know?”
jamal looked down at you from his position on the couch, grip tightening around your waist as he pulled you in. “and you’re my stargirl.”

Masonry Monday: The Case of the Curious Bride
Rhoda Reynolds will do almost anything to keep her colorful past from her husband and, more importantly, her tyrannical father-in-law. But she won't kill, as she insists when the blackmailer who knows her secret is murdered with her ring in his hand. No believes her . . . except Perry Mason.
Tumblr media
Who's Who
Perry Mason's client: Rhoda Reynolds, a wealthy wife whose past indiscretions have come back to roost
The victim: Arthur "Artie" Kane, a blackmailer whose wealth of knowledge angered more than one person
Suspects: Carl Reynolds, Rhoda's husband, who keeps insisting he trusts his wife despite being dominated by his father C. Philip Reynolds, a rich man who doesn't want a mysterious nurse with a past as his daughter-in-law Dr. Michael Harris, Rhoda's friend, who knows about the blackmail and sends her to Perry Mason for help
The Setup
Carl Reynolds kisses his beautiful wife Rhoda goodbye before heading to work, while a smarmy-looking man watches from a nearby car. Later, he scares Rhoda while she's alone in the house. She tells the man, Artie Kane, that she can't afford to give him the $2,000 he's demanding of her. He gives her until 2 am the next morning to raise it and tells her to bring it to his apartment, even hinting that the former nurse should drug her husband. He also calls her bluff when she starts to call the police.
Elsewhere, Carl watches his father Philip Reynolds skeet-shooting. The elder Reynolds refuses to give his son the $2,000 he's asking for, dong the whole "when I was your age" schtick. Reynolds adds that they've only had each other since Carl's mother died when he was four, but they've fallen out since Carl married Rhoda, whom he knew little of. Carl says he thinks Rhoda married him out of sympathy, as she was once his nurse. Reynolds believes she's after their money and says Rhoda's a little too close to a Dr. Michael Harris. He says neither of them will get his money while they remain together.
At the Beverly Hills Doctors Hospital, Rhoda meets with Dr. Harris, an obstetrician. They discuss Kane's blackmail, and Dr. Harris urges her to tell Carl the truth, believing he can handle it, but Rhoda says his father's the problem. Dr. Harris makes a covert pass at her, saying she should have married him, but Rhoda's not biting. Finally, he gives her the address of Perry Mason's office, saying that, if anyone can help her, the lawyer can.
Enter Perry Mason, Attorney at Law
Rhoda arrives at Perry's office as "Mrs. Crocker" and starts tell him she's here to ask a question on behalf of "a friend." Rhoda says her "friend" was married for a few months to a grifter eight years previously in Seattle. Her husband was supposedly killed in an car accident in Kansas later. Perry accurately guesses that she's since married again and her first husband has now turned up, noting that they used the "money for a fake funeral" dodge. Now comes the big question: Is her second marriage valid?
Perry tells her that, unfortunately, her second marriage isn't valid. She should divorce her first husband and marry her second husband again. "Mrs. Crocker" nervously asks if there's any way her friend can persuade her first husband to leave her alone, but Perry attempts to call her bluff and tells her that "her friend" needs to make an appointment if she wants advice. Rhoda leaves, and Perry tells Della he made a bad call not helping her more. Unfortunately, they can't just wash their hands of it: "Mrs. Crocker" gave Della a $50 retainer, and Perry has to find her now.
When Della goes to sit down, she realizes Rhoda left her purse in the office. Since Rhoda's a client, Perry searches the purse for identifying information, which includes a telegram with Rhoda's real married name on it. Perry calls Paul in and asks him to find out about "Artie," the man who sent Rhoda the telegram telling her not to forget the time of their "date" that night. Paul immediately picks up the phone and obtains the address. Perry arrives at Kane's rooming house, and speaks with a neighbor who says Kane has drunken parties. The building is listed as For Sale.
As he's about to leave, a blonde woman walks out, telling Kane she's giving him a deadline of some kind and that she's working at the Onyx. Perry speaks with Kane, who's wary of the lawyer. When Perry asks about Kane's marriage to Rhoda, Kane immediately picks up the phone to call Rhoda. He hands the phone to Perry, and Rhoda tells Perry to stop interfering and hangs up. Perry picks up a very loud alarm clock and Kane refuses to talk to him, but Perry says that's fine -- he's done all the talking, now he expects Kane to ponder his words.
The Murder
Carl Reynolds is asleep in bed at 1:45 am, with a cup of tea next to him. Rhoda sneaks out, but as soon as she leaves the room, Carl springs up and watches her leave. She runs to the garage and gets her car, then drives off. At 2 am, Rhoda drives the car up to a service station with a flat tire, and the serviceman offers to change her tire for her. Rhoda arrives at Kane's apartment at 2: 10, to his fury, and tells him she wasn't able to raise the money in time.
He decides to take her wedding ring as compensation instead, whether Rhoda likes it or not. There's a ring of the bell, but Kane ignores it. Rhoda grabs a poker from the fireplace to defend herself, but it's not enough to fend off Kane, who attacks her. Their tussle is loud enough to wake the nosy neighbor's dog, and the neighbor calls the police, saying that, "Somebody's getting killed!" The next morning, Paul reads about the "bludgeon killing" in the newspaper, which shows Kane's body, with a large diamond ring in his hand.
Della notes that the ring, which is also pictured, was the same one on the finger of "Mrs. Crocker." Perry says that he doesn't represent Rhoda, as she technically fired him yesterday, but the case against her looks rough. Perry says that Tragg probably has her in custody right now, but Della will take that bet: Rhoda herself is on the phone. Perry speaks with Rhoda, who says she's at the Doctors Hospital. He tells her he's on his way and to stay where she is. He asks Paul to get him the police reports on the killing and to identify the Onyx blonde he met coming out of Kane's building.
In Summation
I'll be honest, this is one of those cases where the motive and guilty party are not all that hard to figure out. I'm still not going to spoil it, but there's only person in the case with a stronger motive than Rhoda to commit the murder.
Case under review, please return later...

Can you do a jealous John stones please 🥺🥺🖤
jealous stonesy coming right up! feel like john is the quick to get jealous type :) this gif does things to me
Black Tie Turbulence
Tumblr media
John’s hand is both a constant and comforting presence on your lower back from the moment you both stepped out the car. He’s careful with his feet to not step on the bottom of your beautiful long dress that was matched in colour to that of his delicately placed pocket square.
“Aren’t you two a sight?”
John leads the turn so you can both face Kyle and Annie, also both dressed to the nines and offering each of you a glass of sparkling champagne. “The heels are already a killer,” you joke, making Annie giggle immediately. Heels were a must for almost all black ties, but more so when your boyfriend is an absolute giant.
It was a charity ball that a good few England and their players had been invited to, mostly in order to try and sweet talk the donors into giving more of their money than they originally would. You had gotten used to these events and liked to think you had actually gotten very good at sweetly chatting the vendors into emptying the metaphorical pockets. John wasn’t the world biggest fan of these events, but he knew they had to come hand in hand with the joy of doing what he loves each and every day. Plus, he gets to see you all dressed up. That’s good enough for him.
“I’m gonna go see if I can grab another drink.” You tell John, leaning up to press a chaste kiss into his jaw. He nods, eyes following you intently as you walk off with your heels clinking and dress swaying. “Earth to Stones.” Harry Kane waves, clicking his fingers to get the defenders attention. John shakes his head with a soft chuckle. “He’s fucking whipped, mate.” Kyle laughs heartily, eliciting similar laughter from Kane and his wife.
You stood up at the bar as the tuxedo glad bartender went off to collect your order for you when an older man appeared next to you. He too was looking to order a drink. “I hear the sambuca shots are exquisite this year.” You suggest with a teasing grin and a sparkle in your eyes, very successfully gathering the full attention of the silver fox who you had turned to face. He chuckles, eyes meeting yours as his tongue hits out to lick his lips. He was probably in his mid fifties, so you didn’t feel gross for a little bit of flirting to get some cash for a children’s charity.
“I’m just joking,” you note softly, “But the whiskey is fantastic.”
He nods, a smile overtaking his pink lips and stretching his face to fill a happy 60 years worth of laughter lines. He seemed truly sweet, not that you were at all interested. But he wasn’t sleezy, didn’t have a wedding ring in and looked a little younger than you knew he was. A little bit like Patrick Dempsey, actually. “A woman after my own heart.” He responds, flagging down the waiter for two whiskey’s.
As you got to talking, you learned he was a CEO. You had always been in awe of the kind of money that John had immediate access to in his bank account, what with you still paying off student loans and such until John took went behind your back and payed them off with an insistence that “his girl shouldn’t be worrying about anything ever.” But this man had even more money than that, you suspected. He just screamed out overpriced whiskey, fancy holidays, houses on every continent and boatloads of cars that you hadn’t even heard of. Yet, he seemed very sweet. You told him about some of the work you had gotten up to on a year abroad doing aid work during your second year of uni and he had been extremely curious about it, genuinely listening which shocked you significantly.
John would have said it was because the way that you spoke, completely captivatingly as you got lost in your own stories. You made people feel as though they were part of the adventure, drawing them in and leaving them hanging on every word. Most would claim that you were the only reason John still got invited to these black tie charity events because he certainly wasn’t so good at wooing older men out of their money.
“You’re definitely a whiskey lady, then.” You nod your head at the statement from the older man, a small laugh as you remove your hand from his arm that you had reached for when he made you ‘laugh’ with his last joke. “Mhm…well travelled, beautiful, very elegant and clearly incredibly loved.” You furrow your brows slightly his words, eyeing him carefully in search of their meaning. He leans in slightly, his eyes soft with a kind smile of his face. He nods his head behind you, “He’s been watching you since the moment I stepped up next to you.”
Your eyes land on John when you turn around, trying to look as though he wasn’t watching the interaction intently with those fiery blue eyes. You giggle to yourself with a soft sigh. “You made an old man feel incredibly young again,” he begins with genuine joy in his eyes. “You could change the world with that heart. It’s that reason and that reason only that I’ll be making such a hefty donation. None of this wining and dining, fancy ballroom party they’ve thrown. Passion,” he pauses, “Your kind of passion for better is what this is all about. But I reckon you best get back to the man who looks like he’s going to eat me alive.”
His words were touching and incredibly sweet, but the end was also true. You could hear your boyfriend’s footsteps approaching at a pace that might make you question his fifa rating from last year. You turn yourself back around to offer a thank you for the donation in your name, but all you see is that head of salt and pepper hair disappearing off into the crowd. John has suddenly remembered why he hates these things so much. You’re very clever at getting exactly what was needed from these men and you had no shame at all for flirting with them. If you had it, why not use it? You always said.
Despite knowing it meant nothing, it still sent John absolutely crazy and though you’d never admit it, that was one of the biggest reasons you did it. He used to bring you these things as his friend before you had started dating, which was very coincidentally where he burst and told you he loved you when you had asked what had irritated him so much afterwards.
His jealousy wasn’t something you exactly regarded as a demon, a little bit more of a treat.
Seeing him hot and bothered, angry flush to his cheeks with his jaw set firm and his muscles tense in irritation. It was beautifully hot.
“Flirting with older men again, eh?” He says sharply, his eyes burning a hole in you with the fire of their irritation. You shrug nonchalantly and take a sip of your drink. “Not a big deal,” you hum softly in response, watching carefully as anger flickers through his eyes. He turns his back to you with a scoff and a shake of his head, grumbling something under his breath.
“We’re going.” He states. You roll your eyes. “Oh don’t be like that, John.”
“Like what, eh?” He presses, still not turning to look at you.
“All angry and shit, it’s not a big dea-“
John isn’t having it. He whips around quickly, using his large body to press you back into the bar and takes the drink from your hand with ease when you still, enjoying a sip of it before he places it down on the bar, out of the way easily with those long arms. His hands come down to hold onto the dark mahogany surface of the bar top, trapping you with your back against it between his arms and your front against his chest. “Not a big deal?” He challenges, being careful to wedge his thigh in between your legs, he presses it up against you.
“It’s all for charity, John.”
Your face remains unchanged as you look into his eyes, darkened by lust with his pupils swallowing the blue of his iris.
“I don’t care,” he rumbles, his voice low, reverberating through your ear where he had loved his mouth to, his lips and hot breath tickling your neck with each word he speaks. You open your mouth to response, but John sees this and ceases the opportunity he has primed himself for so you can’t speak before he does. The words are lost on your tongue, dying before they ever have the chance to exist when he flexes the muscles of the thigh between your legs, tightening and pushing it up against you. He swallows your squeaky whimper with his mouth over yours.
“You’re mine.” He growls against your lips, continuing to make his presence between your legs known, very very known. He does pull back k slightly though, his darkened smirk flattering to a soft smile as he tilts his head to take in your rosy cheeks. “My sweet, kind girl.” He coos, lifting both his hands to cup your cheeks, thumbs smoothing over the soft surface. You giggle at his words, blush deepening. “Seriously though, love,” he hums, “Hate the action, love the cause.”
That prompts another giggle, your head falling to rest on his chest gently. His hands strokes over your hair softly as his lips press down on the top of your head.
“Not mad?” You query, listening in to the soft and slow thud of his heart against your cheek. John has moved you effortlessly to the ballroom dance floor from the bar with only a few backwards steps, letting you lean in against his chest again. “Little bit, of course.” He replies.
John has his arms wrapped tightly around your body to keep you flush against him in every way, swaying back and forth in time with the music.
To any onlookers, it would appear as normal, mundane and incredibly sweet to see the relatively young couple enjoying each other so close on one of his few nights off. Truly, it was adorable when you factored out the reason for the proximity John keeps to your body.
“John?” You lilt, your voice a daring misfire between sweet and sultry. “Mhm?” He rumbles in response, keeping his cheek rested on the top of your head. “Your hard-on is pressing into my stomach.” He chuckles to himself, your words too quiet for anyone else anywhere near to eavesdrop on but enough to flush his cheeks ever so slightly.
“And I would much rather it was in some far more pleasurable places.”
John does not need those words explained to him, nor does he waste even a moment leading you hastily off towards the exit of the ballroom, sure that he could find somewhere in this venue suitable enough to let everybody hear just who you belong to.

Since it’s been out on wide release for a few days and I’ve seen it twice, here’s my full Licorice Pizza review! It’s a bit longer than I expected, but I’ve been waiting to talk about this movie for months, so...
Includes spoilers!
I’ve seen it twice, once at a full-house advanced screening with other Film Lovers™ and once at my local Regal theater with only a dozen other people. Very different experiences and I’m glad I had them both, I’ll get into that later.
First things first, the cast is wonderful, from the major players to the smaller cameos — I gasped when I first saw Phil’s partner, Mimi, and on my second watch I realized their daughters, Cooper’s younger sisters, are in it, too, which made me cry lol.
Alana Haim is just as good as everyone has been saying she is. Every critic sounds like a broken record, but it really is hard to believe this is her first on-screen role! She’s completely natural and funny (and the entire Haim family is a riot). The combination of casting a lead who hasn’t acted before and her natural talent makes it feel like Alana really is Alana Kane, totally immersive and delightful. She’s lost, she’s defensive, she’s a loser, she’s defiantly Jewish (!), she’s immature, she’s surrounded by terrible adults while trying to figure out who she is.
Cooper! The comparisons with his father are inevitable (and understandable) — it’s funny because they don’t look alike in the face (he’s the spitting image of her mother), but the way he moves, his gestures are so Phil. Wrestler’s build, touching the hand to the forehead, the way they light cigarettes.
I can’t help but watch it and think of Phil, notice things that might be me projecting or might be little moments meant for him. There’s a small scene where Gary and his mom get cheeseburgers (one of Phil’s favorites). The heavy-breathing over the phone like Happiness. Gary’s father isn’t around. Smashing the car windshield like the window in Charlie Wilson’s War. Gary and Alana’s argument about being cool versus Lester Bangs’ “I’m always home, I’m uncool” in Almost Famous. Whether any of these are intention callbacks I don’t know, but they’re sweet. It’s really so beautiful and fortunate for us that we get to see Phil’s son acting.
BUT Cooper Hoffman also deserves consideration on his own merit! Same as Alana, there’s that combination of a new face + talent (+ PTA’s skills) that make this a fantastic acting debut. Gary Valentine is cocky, he’s an asshole, he’s a teenager who wishes and thinks he’s much older, he’s got a crush. He manages to walk a thin line between asshole and decent guy, and much of the unspoken tension has to do with what kind of man he’ll become — a shit, like nearly every adult man we meet in this movie, or something better? And we really don’t know. Knowing that Cooper is studying acting now, I’ll be thrilled if he decides to continue performing.
Other characters:
Tom Waits’ entrance is maybe one of my all time favorites. When I saw LP at the advanced screening, the crowd went crazy when he appeared through that haze of smoke. His command of the restaurant crowd extended to the film’s audience and it was just delightful.
JOHN C. REILLY!!! His cameo happened so fast it was over before I realized it on my first watch, but I wanted to hoot and holler the moment I saw him the second time around.
Harriet Sansom Harris and Skyler Gisondo absolutely steal their scenes, so damn funny. That’s part of what I loved about this movie, the way it focused consistently enough on our two leads that smaller characters could come in and chew the scenery (in the best way possible) while everything still felt coherent and well-paced, without taking away from the core story.
On to the plot... I enjoyed the narrative structure of the film, focusing on these two leads but floating through various vignettes and shenanigans. I generally like episodic movies like that anyway and thought it was well-paced. The push-and-pull of their friendship over... how long? The first time I watched, I didn’t really think about it. The second time I definitely paid closer attention but I’m still not totally sure. At least a year, but I’ve read analysis arguing three?
Either way — the age gap conversation. I’m quite Online so I’ve heard the fuss on twitter, but I’m not sure how much people are actually talking about it. Nevertheless, I think one of the reasons LP has generated so much “controversy” is that this is 100% the most mainstream-advertised PTA film ever. They’re definitely reaching out to a much wider audience, some of whom are probably watching a P.T. Anderson film for the first time. At the risk of sounding pretentious 🥴 I think a lot of people who see (or just hear about) LP approach it with a mindset of like... MCU brain, or something. PTA’s films are often about toxic relationships and people who are not Bad or Good or things that are Right or Wrong. They’re about people, as they really are, as things really happen, whatever you think of them. Alana is too old, Gary is too young. She’s flawed, and so is he. They shouldn’t be here, but they are, and this is a glimpse of what happens at this moment in their lives together.
In the waterbed store scenes, I was practically waiting for Scotty J to walk in. Loved the Valley setting, the feel of the era. Read another review about the length and pace of the movie where someone said they have no problem meandering through a world like this, one you love to explore. Seeing it on 70mm was an unforgettable experience but it still looked great on digital. Every song slaps, end of story. The opening with Nina Simone’s “July Tree,” breathtaking, gives me goosebumps just to think about. Good and truly obsessed with all the running.
Every moment Bradley Cooper was on screen I wanted to scream/laugh/hold my breath. The first watch I was almost too anxious to really enjoy the entire Jon Peters/truck sequence (it is Paul Thomas Anderson, after all — I doubted but wasn’t sure if the film was suddenly going to take a much darker turn). The second viewing, it was the time of my life (like Gary) — until you get to the end of the scene and realize what Alana just went through. That felt like the Boogie-Nights-New-Years-shift-in-tone scene, highlighting how Gary is still a kid and Alana is an adult and terribly lost.
The biggest, glaring issue are the scenes with John Michael Higgins’ racist restauranteur, Jerry Frick. I think I get what PTA was trying to do — throughout the film we get the themes of misogyny, antisemitism, racism, homophobia of the 1970s. Frick is one of Gary’s older friends and probably role models, and he’s one of the men that makes us ask the question “Is this who Gary is going to become?” But it’s just gross and slams the brakes on the film’s tone and pace. Even if we’re meant to laugh at how egregiously terrible this white guy instead of with him, it’s too much, feels totally out of place and uncomfortable. My first audience laughed, my second audience groaned audibly every time he spoke. Could and should have been cut and the movie wouldn’t have lost anything, plot- or meaning-wise.
Something I’ve been thinking about nonstop in relation to the ending is an interview with Alana from a few weeks ago. She said something like, after Gary kisses Alana and they run outside together and the movie ends on that neat and tidy note, maybe Gary pulls her arm too hard and she falls and scrapes her knees and they don’t talk for another three weeks. I love that.
Overall, Licorice Pizza is solidly my favorite film of 2021. It represents a lot more than just the sum of its parts for me, and the joy and love poured into this film buoy the spirit. My favorite PTA since The Master, by far. “It is whatever you think it is.” Already can’t wait for the next slice.

A CERTAIN ROMANCE
CHAPTER ONE: JUEVES
Author’s note: Hello! I’ve decided to give it a go, this is my first chaptered fic in this website. This story just occurred to me a while ago and I’ve tried my best to make some sense out of the concept which honestly is forever changing on my mind. I hope you don’t find many grammar mistakes, if you do please let me know. Enjoy! (:
Story masterlist ** Word count: 2.3K **
Tumblr media
It's been years since Harry last had to use the tube, but it's not as hard as he thinks, buying the ticket was fairly simple and soon enough he was sitting on the train comfortably. The northern line wasn't too busy, no delays were announced through the speakers, his journey to Ladbroke Grove station was going to last around thirty six minutes. He suddenly can't remember how long the ride would be on a car. Maybe it's time to start using the London Underground a bit more, contributing to saving the planet, lessen his carbon footprint. With all the aeroplanes he takes a year, he should use it from now onto the rest of his life, he thinks with a bit of guilt.
He changes to the Hammersmith and city line with ease, passing by lots of people, no one truly pays attention to him. The school girls that would usually come up to him and ask for a picture are too busy gossiping among themselves, the grown up adults that are more fond of his solo work are too immersed into their own thoughts about annoying bosses. Harry likes to blend into the crowd that's gathered now at the station and awaits for the train. In the eyes of the others, he's just another guy patiently waiting for the train to hop on and get to his destination. Even though he was on his way to meet with the team that will take care of his house renovation, a property valued approximately on £4.175 million.
The train arrives and he follows the multitude that pile into the wagon, he isn't lucky to find a seat this time but doesn't mind as he finds a good spot to lean against, the doors close just as he skips the ABBA song he doesn't feel like listening at the moment and settles for Hanson instead. He bops his head along the tune before slipping back the mobile in his pocket, eyes traveling along the passengers' faces, trying to guess what they're up to.
A group of lads wearing the Tottenham jersey discuss the latest game, one of them praising Kane's goal and regretting him missing the next match. Harry knows a thing or two about football, he even plays it regularly with his friends not so far away from his home, but he doesn't keep up with Manchester United, perhaps he can do that from now on he thinks before letting his gaze fall upon the pack getting down on Baker Street and the few ones hopping on. Most of them are tourists chatting about the Sherlock Holmes museum, the singer smiles, remembering the first time he visited it with his family, many years ago. Sometimes he longs for those days to be back, so he can do the typical touristy things with the people he loves the most once in a while or have a date without a good amount of lenses focused on his every move.
Not that he regrets being a well known musician, actor, model. It comes with a lot of perks. But he's just moving on from a breakup that might have been his fault. He's a workaholic for sure, even though he's supposed to be taking it easy, his mind can't help but keep throwing song ideas for the next album. That is why Jeff suggested the home renovation, knowing that the project will keep him busy for about three months, maybe more if the contractors up sell their ideas.
Harry makes his way out of the station in one piece and without being spotted, he checks the address again on his phone, confirming the place where the meeting will be held is within walking distance and makes his way before choosing a Pink Floyd song for the six minute walk. He pulls his coat tighter around him, relishing in the forever changing weather of the city, this time he will stay and enjoy it in full, maybe even delight in the autumn too, have his mum over for a couple of weeks, maybe he'll even stay longer and take her to the ice rink.
Just as Harry plots on where to go when his favourite person pays him a visit, he reaches the private front garden off a beautiful car-free garden square. He remembers to text Jack, who doesn't take long to appear in the distance and unlock the gate for his friend.
"You're impossibly early mate," the man greets with an amused chuckle.
"Sorry, had to take the tube because of what you said about car-free development, probably miscalculated the time." Harry admits sheepishly, scratching the back of his neck as Jack leads the way through the garden. "Is this where they filmed Notting Hill?" He wonders with another look around.
"Couple of scenes that didn't make the cut, our neighbour Mrs. Black will tell you all about it, if you happen to run into her around Hugh Grant's birthday." Harry laughs as they reach a private entrance with a well-maintained front garden adorning the forepart of the property, he follows Jack inside the home where a strong coffee scent greets them both.
The musician quickly scans the large open plan kitchen/reception room with large glass sliding patio doors to a delightful independent garden where a round table is surrounded by four mismatching chairs. He doesn't remember Jack's old place, but it certainly didn't look as the dream home they're standing in right now.
"Thanks for agreeing to do the meeting here mate," Harry's words are sincere his companion can tell, he tries to shove it off as if it's nothing, handing him the mug with coffee while he pours another one for himself, "I know it can be a handful, the NDAs too." Now he's almost blushing.
"We should be thanking you H, work from home for the next couple of months, my dream come true." Jack manages to make him laugh and feel at ease again, just before the steps of a third party come from the stairs and grow closer towards them. "Just in time, Harry this is Fernando Gonzalez, my housemate and architect of the team." He introduces the tall man to his friend and watches them shake each other's hand, "Fernando this is our client, Harry Styles."
"It's a pleasure to finally meet you Mr. Styles," his voice is soft and melodic, like an aerophone instrument.
"Please call me H, all my friends do," the musician knows this is business, but he wants to have fun too, like Jeff suggested. And the guy looks way too young to be calling him Mister Styles.
"I warned you Fer, he likes to keep it easy, breezy." Jack says motioning both of them to follow his lead and sit down in their dining table that is covered with house design magazines, floor plans of Harry's home and a couple of what the pop star assumes are sketch notebooks. "Alright, tell us about your vision for this project." In all honesty, Harry doesn't know how to answer that.
He fights the urge to say that he had purchased the property knowing that not much is needed to be done to the décor. The style and the flow of the house is already lovely. After a quick glance at the plan he thinks that maybe, more room is needed and, most importantly, a new kitchen-dining-living space that would be grand enough to entertain in, but cosy enough to be the central 'hub' of his home.
"The windows, for starters, have to be replaced." He begins with a tone so confident that the pair before him don't suspect he's improvising the whole thing. "New bathrooms, perhaps from Lusso Stone, demolish an existing rear extension from the top and design and build an entirely new expansive ultra-modern one, like the one at Lou's home." Jack nods understanding what he means, "I also want a kitchen diner extension, pink granite worktops, if possible." Harry finishes before grabbing one of the magazines and starts flipping pages just to look busy.
The whole project can take six months, they let him know, through the summer and autumn. He's elated at achieving double the time he hoped for in the beginning.
"We'll send the paperwork to your team and see you next week to sign it once they approve it," Jack concludes the meeting as they all finish their coffee. "Are you busy on the nineteenth?" His friend's voice is warmer now that he's not on business mode, it makes Harry smile.
"I don't think I am, why?"
"It's Freddie's birthday, you should come, catch up with the lads," Harry nods while thinking about it, a bit unsure because it has been a while since he's seen the rest of the pack, he's not sure they'll welcome him just like that. "They're always asking about you, could be like old times, lads doing laddy stuff," the green eyed musician chuckles at that, not sure if he wants to go back to those activities of their youth.
"Sure I'll go, text me the address a few days before," his friend nods in approval to his request, "I better get going, I have to pick up my sister for dinner, see you both next week." The youngest nods and shakes Harry's hand before Jack leads the way out the house and square. The sun is setting now and the sky is a mix of pink and purple hues just as the two men bid their goodbyes until they meet again in a week's time.
Harry scolds himself for buying a one way ticket earlier instead of sorting out an Oyster card, he'll do that next time, he thinks before stepping into the train and finding a seat in the middle section of it. Led Zeppelin is a good soundtrack for his journey back home, for some reason he is craving the powerful, noisy, speedy rebellion that came with the band's songs, he loved to get so lost in the music that whatever activity he did came in second, every single time. Which is why he almost didn't get off at the King's cross stop, he hurried out of the vehicle, laughing to himself for being so immersed into the music.
The way back to the northern line was now familiar, but not as busy, he decided not to walk too fast after confirming that he had enough time to go home and take a shower before going over to Gemma's. Waiting at the platform he decides to change his playlist, again. Just as he's about to settle for Wings, out of the corner of his eye he spies what the person next to him is listening to and he stops from hitting play on his own device.
The who.
It's been ages since he heard them, three years if he is being honest. The train arrives and the girl next to him puts her phone in her coat pocket as she prepares to board the wagon, Harry does the same, but instead of training his eyes on the descending passengers, he lets them focus on her. She's wearing a nice burgundy coat, a black newsboy cap, high-waisted jeans with a blue polka dot blouse tucked underneath them. She's much shorter than he is, probably about Helene's height, he thinks as they make their way inside.
Without meaning to, he follows her and leans on the wall, across from her. She doesn't seem to notice how his stare is burning holes into her face, he's itching to ask her where did she buy the red boots she's wearing. Harry knows the moment he speaks to her, it will all go to shit. Some of the school girls sitting nearby might recognise his voice, his dimple could pop out to play and give him away too. She might also think he's a creep and kick him in the shin, leaving a nasty bruise that would heal in about a week, unlike the invisible one in his ego.
"Are you telling me, you developed a ten feet tall crush on someone you saw on the tube?" Gemma asks later that night, her fork full of linguine was stopped mid-air, making her brother roll his eyes but nod bashfully. "I'm speechless." The fork resumes its trajectory and she chews her pasta slowly.
"It happens to everyone, only because you both know that there's almost no chance to see each other again." Harry shrugs and bites a piece of bread, still feeling weird about the situation.
"Did she make eyes at you?"
"What?" He's completely taken off guard by his sister's question, his northern accent coming out and making him drop the 't' at the end.
"Yes, did you flirt with each other making eyes," Gemma's eyelashes flutter as if she was a Disney princess meeting her love interest for the first time, Harry shakes his head in denial, "what was it then?"
"I don't know! It was weird, couldn't take my eyes off of her but... she didn't even notice, I sound like a dirty man," he does, his sister agrees but the pink spots on his cheekbones tell a different story.
"I once had a crush like that, with a cashier at Waitrose," she remembers before sipping her wine, "he was nice to look at, one day he wasn't there anymore, just like that." Gemma sighed and took her younger sibling's hand on hers before adding. "If our lives were a Nicholas Sparks novel, perhaps we would be getting ready to have a date with those lovely people but..." Harry laughed and gave her hand a gentle squeeze.
"How's the sunnies collaboration going?" He asked before taking the last of his gnocchi. Listening to his sister talk about things that she enjoyed was the highlight of his days, he managed to push his silly underground crush to the back of his mind.
But there was the truth of what Harry couldn't see, or say. He'd probably like to have a shot with a girl like that and if Gemma could only see her, she would agree. Agree that there might be a story around there.

Hi. Could you do Number 1 of your Writing Prompt with Jack Grealish?
N°1. You own a clothing store especially focused on child clothing and his teammates children model for your new collection.
Okay wow, I went all the way for this one.. Sorry!!
Also, I went for Harry and Kates Kane’s children – I mean they are teammates for the England NT, right?
Hope you don’t mind & you like it! xxx
You always were very into fashion and sketching clothing designs whenever you had time. Not exactly sure where you got the crazy amount of interests in haute couture children clothing. But one this was sure, your ultimate effort brought you to where you were today. The owner of a small, chic clothing store in one of the most famous streets in Birmingham. Your very own clothing store.
You had to be honest, you wouldn’t be with your store where you are right now if you didn’t have the endless amount of support you got from your boyfriend Jack. He was for sure your biggest fan, and you were his. Both your motivation and hardworking mindset brought the two of you together, still going strong after these 4 years.
Since both you and Jack were focused on your jobs most of the time, you didn’t have the intention of starting a family just yet. The conversation being held quite a few times before over dinner but the both of you agreeing that one day you both will be ready for children, but that day wouldn’t be any time soon.
Not having kids wasn’t a problem, even if you owned a clothing store focused on children clothing. You did need children to wear your new collection and model the outfits for shoots and campaign posters and all of that. That’s when your good friendship with Kate, Harrys wife, came in as very handy. You and Kate had known each other before you and Jack started dating, all thanks to your online clothing store you had started at the beginning and Kate ordering some pieces for her children.
Kate agreeing on her kids modeling for your new collection meant the world to you. You knew her kids and they had the perfect appearance and joyfulness in them that would fit perfectly in your new collection. Her children always being super polite and friendly whenever they came over, your relationship with them being a very important thing as well.
The morning of the planned shoot was a bit hectic. Jack just letting you rush through the house not to bother you, only pulling you towards him when he realized you were about to leave without saying any goodbyes. “You can’t just go like that.” He smiled squeezing your hand while making you look at him. “Sorry. I know. I am just…” You sighed for a second, a smile forming on your face as Jack was smiling himself. “Busy? Stressed? Rushed?” He asked with a bit of laughter in his voice. “I know. But it will be good. Just enjoy.” He said and without giving you a chance to say something else, his lips were attached to yours. A very loving kiss shared between you both. “I love you.” Was all you said before finally leaving the house.
Some hours later and Kate had arrived at your store, the small photoshoot being held in your showroom at the back of the store. Her children were dressed in some very cute clothing combination, the background for the pictures all designed as a winter wonderland. Fake snow being thrown in the air, presents all over the floor and all the things you had prepared beforehand. The children were having fun while the pictures were being taken and you were gladly happy with the picture results.
“These are the last pieces.” You said while helping her children change in some other outfits, the girls laughing as your hair was covered in the fake snow as well because of them throwing it back at you. “These really are some very nice pieces.” Kate smiled while looking at the clothes. “I will for sure buy some for them.” She added and you shook your head. “You don’t have to; you can take these with you. You can look around and if you like something, you can have it.” You explained and she looked at you a bit surprised with a smile. “You are too good for this world.” She said thanking you for the gifts. “It’s okay. See it as a thank you gift for them being here and modeling my new collection.” You smiled, the children posing – more like playing – for the last few pictures.
“Ehm, ma’am, mister Grealish is here for you.” The student worker, currently being in the store, called for you through the walkie talkie you used to communicate on the work floor. “You can send him to the back.” You answered, a content smile on your face as you were looking at the pictures being shown by the photographer. Kate having the same smile on her face. “Don’t get yourself too dirty, you still need to sit in the car.” She said looking at her girls for a second as they were playing in the fake snow.
“What has happened here?” Jack laughed when he walked inside of the showroom. “Welcome to winter wonderland.” You smiled, arranging some things with the photographer before leading her out of the store after you got all the information you needed.
“We should go now as well, still a bit of a car ride for today.” Kate said after changing her kids into their own clothes. “Thank you so much! I can’t thank you enough.” You said handing her the bags with the clothes you were gifting her. “And this is for you two.” You smiled handing her children a small bag of candy. “Ohh thank you.” They smiled taking it form you and after saying your goodbyes at the door, they left the store.
“Thank you for keeping the store open today. See you tomorrow. You can go already. I will close it up.” You thanked your student worker after an hour, the girl gathering her stuff together and after she had arranged her work schedule for the upcoming week, she left the store, you and Jack now being the only one present. The doors closed behind her so no one could enter after closing time.
“These look very good.” Jack smiled referring to the pictures on your laptop. “Amazing right?” You smiled standing next to him when you arrived back in the showroom. “Her children are the best, really.” You added leaning against him for a second. “How was training?” You asked moving away after looking through the pictures some more, so you could start cleaning the set up.
“Meh, fine.” He shrugged closing your laptop, a sigh coming from him as he realized he has to help you. “It will be done faster if we work together.” You laughed looking at him for a second. “It’s because I love you that I stay here to help.” He explained but after a while started helping to clean up the space eventually. The two of you having some fun yourself with the fake snow. Videos ending up on your story, showing some behind the scenes of a day at your work.

I just have ask, cause I need to just voice this.. (BTW I do love the show no worry) Am I the only one who thought it was such a stupid reason that the new FBI decided that the fake money was made by women was because they used fuckin' NAIL POLISH?!! I legit sat dumfounded, I mean... wtf? What, men can't think to add nail polish to their fake money?
Haha, I get why you don’t like it, anon. As a functional plot device it’s a little hammy, but I appreciate it as a thematic plot device so much that I actually like it a lot overall.
This show doesn’t really have a lot of recurring objects like many shows do, but when they are introduced, they usually serve as a means of underlining the gendering of spaces, crime and life, which is a theme this show is about as obsessed with as I am. I talked pretty extensively about the gendering of spaces and how the show uses them in this post (man, I should update this with the delicious new spaces in s3, because they continue all of these trends in such interesting ways!), and briefly touched on the gendering of objects too (namely Rio’s golden gun, and the dubby), but it really does extend well beyond that.
So let’s break that down a little!
(Under a cut to save your dashes!)
Functional vs Thematic Plot Devices
Plot devices take a hundred different shapes and forms throughout a story, and of course, always serve to drive narrative forwards, tell the audience something about a character, or drive home a narrative theme. Plot devices aren’t always physical – in many cases they can be a trope, expectation, lie, red herring, among many other things, but for the sake of this post I want to talk about physical plot devices.
So basically, I want to talk about the way this show uses objects.
It might not seem like it on the surface, but this is a show that uses objects as plot devices a lot. Sometimes these are obvious – the money for instance, the Boland Motors car Turner drudges from the lake back in s1, the dubby (and ho, boy, I have a lot to say about that last one, but I’ll come back to that), the guns, Lucy’s phone, etc etc etc.
While these are, of course, essentially props, this is a show that typically lends a lot of weight to them, and in particular, it lends a lot of weight to feminine-coded objects that would in other shows frequently be dismissed as inconsequential.
A pearl necklace, an old lady’s porcelain figurines, a smear of lipstick on a pen cap, a child’s blanket, a new engagement ring, a pregnancy test, vials of botox, and nail polish, among many other things, become objects of narrative and thematic importance.
When it comes to these sorts of physical plot devices, I generally separate them into two categories: functional and thematic.
Functional plot devices are ultimately what they sound like. They serve an often purely functional purpose in the story. Things like the Boland Motors car that the girls took to Canada, dumped, and then was drudged up by Turner. It was used as a means of re-directing Turner’s attention on Beth, while also revealing to Dean that Beth had been the person who’d robbed him back in 1.03. More recently too, the hockey jersey that Ruby stole was a means of ultimately giving us a fun heist as the girls scrambled to get the money to pay for Beth’s life, as well as getting us to the pawn shop where Ruby would see the pen that Sara had stolen.
Functional plot devices – at their most basic – move plot forwards, bridge the gaps between characters and accelerate the action and drama of a story.
Thematic plot devices on the other hand serve a different purpose, and are often less bogged down, I find at least, in perfect logic. While they need to do what a functional plot device does, they also carry the extra weight of underpinning character arcs and often punctuating the key themes of the story. The sled in Citizen Kane is a really good example of this – as a functional plot device it’s just a specific sled and a sort of silly thing for a multimillionaire to want when he can buy as many sleds as he wants, but as a thematic one, we lean that it’s the key thing in his life connecting him back to his childhood, his innocence and his humanity, and comes to represent the central loss of the film.
Similarly, Harry’s lightning bolt scar in the Harry Potter series serves as a functional plot device to tell us and Harry when Voldemort is near, but it actually evades logic to eschew a greater purpose – which is reiterate the theme of motherly love and protection in the story.
Sharp Objects
Good Girls uses objects this way a lot and frequently shifts them between the two purposes, and it has done that since the very beginning. Using toy guns on the very first Fine & Frugal robbery for instance, was a silly plot point used ultimately to get them into the situation with Boomer at the end, but it also thematically represented the naivety of the girls in the robbery, and Annie and Beth’s powerlessness overall, but especially in the scene with Boomer (something immediately juxtaposed with Beth hitting him with the bourbon bottle). It also works effectively as a means of showing how far Beth would come across the first season as she held a real gun at the end of it, and the further slip of her moral character and what she’s capable of across season 2 and 3.
Sometimes they seem to appear as purely functional too, but evolve into thematic ones – meaning they are enriched with weight and purpose as they transition in their design.
A good example of that is Boomer’s cell phone in 2.03 which was purely functional – serving as a means of tricking the girls into believing they were disposing of Boomer’s body, not Jeff’s, before it was pivoted in the last scene to be used on a thematic and character level. By Annie listening to Marion’s voicemails through it, it served to re-link Annie to her own humanity, and underpin her arc with Marion that would ultimately lead to betrayal, redemption, grief and guilt.
The Dubby: a quick aside
The best example though, at least to me, is, of course, the dubby. The dubby does a lot of heavy lifting on virtually every story level, and I could honestly wax lyrical about it until the end of time.
On a functional plot level, it’s there to ultimately get Beth shirking Rio’s instructions and throwing her weight against him in their partnership. It forces her to confront the fact that she views herself and Rio as equals, when the reality is – in situations like that – they’re not. It also gets us to confrontations between Beth with Dean, Rio and Ruby, as well as Annie and Ben (I told you it did a lot of heavy lifting!), served as the means to which Noah and Annie met (boo), revealed Rio’s hand emotionally, and forced Beth to face on a textual level (as opposed to subtextual level) her changing relationship with her home, with her role as a mother, and ultimately her children.
On a thematic level, it explores all that and more! Not only is it deeply, deeply symbolic of a loss of innocence (a baby blanket in a drug den!) – something that’s reiterated by the girls almost being raped in that house – but Rio’s desire, for whatever reason, to give it back to her (something actually reiterated in 2.08 when he tries to handle the baby hitmen for her) – a really, really interesting beat for a character that seems to revel in her moral decline. Rio has, I think, always wanted her to be both. Again, something that is the clearest we’ve ever seen in this episode – he wants her to own up to what she is (a drug dealer) during their fight, while simultaneously trying to restore her to a seemingly frivolous comfort as a mother. It’s complicated! And I love it!
It’s also a highly feminised object that is weaponised against Beth twice. Firstly, by Jane as a means of guilting Beth (she lost it in the drug den), then criminally (by the, y’know, criminals), and then Beth actually weaponises it herself against the woman in the craft store in a female hierarchical sense which is totally fascinating to me and feels very true of Beth as reiterating the sort of alpha woman she is.
I could keep talking about this, but let’s move on, haha.
Claws
It’s not just about character arcs though.
Thematic plot devices are also often used as symbolic touchstones to re-emphasise the key themes of the show overall, and it’s in this sense that the nail polish operates – to me – really effectively. The writers aren’t saying that nail polish is only used by women, they’re saying that it’s a feminine-coded object deemed frivolous or silly by a patriarchal society (which it is, even when men wear it), and that women can use that dismissal as a weapon.
In other words, the key through line of the show.
The girls have operated with this sensibility since the show began, acting within underestimated, feminine-coded spaces and using them, basically in a way that messes with people’s expectations. It doesn’t always work in their favour, but that’s not a bad thing, and I don’t think that that’s the story this show is trying to tell. Rather I think it’s simply trying to say that these things are active, and can be powerful and used in interesting ways. They’re not passive or frivolous as history has told us.
They’ve frequently actually tried to use female-coded objects in crime before too – namely Marion’s figurines, the secret shopping scheme, the botox – all of which failed in unique ways (all of which too were briefly entertained but ultimately rejected by Rio, and it’s interesting that a key transition in Beth and Rio’s relationship occurred around Boland Motors – a masculinised space that Beth feminised on her takeover of it – I spoke about that quite a bit in the gendered spaces post I linked to above!)
The nail polish though has been the first true, pure success of a weaponised, feminine-coded object in the crime storylines, and it’s not an accident that that has coincided with the launch of the girls’ operation and their pure success without Rio. Being able to use it to make the money has been key to representing their feminisation of the crime world and the crime space on a thematic level, and I’d argue represents a ‘full circle’ moment with the success of their returns-for-cash scheme working with Rio originally (again, a feminine-coded operation).
Like I said in my gendered spaces post – Beth, Ruby and Annie are at their strongest and smartest when they’re utilising the familiar, feminine-coded world and weaponizing it, as opposed to copying Rio’s highly masculine-coded world (one of the clearest examples of this ever on the show was this season actually when Beth realised she couldn’t intimidate Gil like Rio, but could blackball him in PTA mom mode). The nail polish is actually a key symbol of that too, and the fact that it’s identified by a female FBI agent is about reiterating the same themes. Phoebe has a chance to take down the girls and close in on them because she doesn’t underestimate that world like Turner did and Rio’s still prone to doing.
The nail polish in that sense formed not only a functional plot device (with making the money in the first place), a thematic one (the underestimation of feminine-coded objects by men), but a bridging device that makes Phoebe a real enemy to the girls. It also serves as a great narrative underscore as Phoebe removes that nail polish from circulation, not only indicating that Phoebe operates in that space as well as Beth, Ruby and Annie, because she’s a part of that world in a way Turner wasn’t, but forming a terrific narrative parallel where as Beth loses further control of her operation, she also loses control of a key ingredient which gained her that operation in the first place.
So yes! Less function, more theme, but I don’t know.
I’m pretty into it, haha.

🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎
𝕴 𝖉𝖎𝖉𝖓'𝖙 𝖜𝖆𝖐𝖊 up on the day we were supposed to go to Kings Crossing until nine-thirty and was immensely glad that I had already packed my trunk the night before. I'd stayed up late because Dad had said he'd try and drop by before the last day of school. Unfortunately, we got an owl around eleven o'clock saying he wouldn't be able to make it but he wished me and Trang a good time at school.
I'd also been woken by a nightmare around one o'clock which I'd immediately recognized to be a vision, and wrote a letter to Hannah Abbott telling her that'd I'd just had a vision telling her that I'd seen her being pulled out of Herbology class only a few weeks into term because her mother had been found dead. I told her that she would be safe at Hogwarts, but if her mother and anyone else in the house could find a safe place to stay or take up extra precautions, it would be advisable.
I didn't know if Sadie would be able to deliver it before Hannah left for school and I also didn't know if the Death Eaters were going to attack Sadie by delivering it. I waited for Sadie with a horrible sickening feeling in my stomach and wished I'd used a different owl.
I ate a quick breakfast and helped Mr. Weasley put my trunk in a second Ministry car which would be taking us to Kings Crossing today. Trang and I sat in the car with Ginny and I stared out the window, wishing I could see Sadie fly back to me. Meanwhile, my pygmy puff who I'd christened Amelia, was sleeping in her cage. Trang had christened hers Oliver. But I couldn't even bring myself to make fun of her.
Trang could barely sit still the entire car ride- which wasn't long. It would be her first time on the Hogwarts Express, riding to school. Of course, she'd been at Hogwarts last year, but only in the hospital wing and Dumbledore's office, and I suspected she'd seen a bit of the grounds too. But this year was different. She'd be attending classes and I knew her deepest wish was to become a witch and she was finally going to be able to achieve it. It was a weird turn of events and it made my strangely uncomfortable.
The Ministry cars stopped in front of the train station where two, grim-faced Aurors were waiting for us. I wished that Tonks was here but I knew I'd see her on the other train station when we arrived at Hogwarts. Of course, I'd have to help Harry first.
The Aurors didn't speak as they walked into Kings Crossing with us, our things on trolleys. We approached the barrier, but Trang was looking around, looking apprehensive and I realized that I'd forgotten to tell her how we got onto the platform.
"Quick, quick, through the barrier." Mrs. Weasley said nervously and glanced at the Aurors, "Harry had better go first, with-"
One of the Aurors nodded and gripped Harry's arm, steering him towards the barrier. Harry wrenched his arm from his grip and pushed ahead, the Auror quick on his heels. Trang watched them disappeared through the wall and her mouth dropped again. I put a finger out, pushing it closed.
"Elizabeth, Hermione, you two next." Mrs. Weasley said and we went through with the next Auror walking between the two of us. At least he didn't attempt to grab my arm.
"Let's go" Hermione said and we quickly loaded our things off the trolleys and carried them up to the prefect carriage. Then we came back out to see Mr. Weasley come through the platform with Trang. I was glad- she looked much more relaxed until she saw the train and all the students on the platform. She didn't drop her mouth again but she seemed very nervous and looked pale.
Harry came up on the train, Trang following him quickly.
"We gotta go down to the prefect compartment, Harry and then patrol." I said.
"Right" Harry said and I waved to him and Trang and then followed Hermione and Ron to the prefect compartment. To my surprise, only Pansy Parkinson was in the compartment representing the Slytherins. Anthony and Padma were representing the Ravenclaws and we all nodded to each other.
Ernie was waiting as the male Hufflepuff. He shook hands with Ron and Hermione and gave me a quick side hug.
"How was your summer?" He asked.
I sighed, running my long hair back. "Cold."
He chuckled and then turned his attention to the head students so that we could learn about all the different security measures that would be taken at Hogwarts this year and also how we'd be asked to patrol the corridors more often along with teachers. So in other words, I wasn't going to be getting a lot of sleep this year.
Finally, around mid afternoon we were let go and we patrolled the corridors. Ernie and I stopped by a compartment that a lot of Hufflepuffs were sitting in including Hannah Abbott, Susan Bones, Justin Finch-Fletchley, and Zacharias Smith.
Hannah looked up when we came and stood up abruptly and hurried past me and down the hallway. My face flushed and I looked at Susan, "What did I do?"
"She said she got a very disturbing letter from you this morning." Zacharias answered. "What was it about?"
"Er- if she didn't tell you the contents of the letter, then it's none of your business." I said softly. Did she not believe me? Did her parents not believe me? Did she think it was a trap? I ran an aggravated hand through my hair again.
I saw that Dean Thomas and Ginny were walking past and suddenly Zacharias was on his feet and he was calling after Ginny who turned.
"What happened at the Ministry?" Zacharias asked.
"None of your business." Ginny said coolly. "Eliza's behind her, why don't you ask her?"
I shook my head quickly behind Zacharias back, giving her an exasperated look.
I sat down next to Susan and waited as Zacharias continued to barrage Ginny with questions and then I stood up as Ginny pulled out her wand and then hexed Zacharias. He flew backwards, skidding to a stop at my feet. I looked down at him with zero pity. "You deserved that you know."
Suddenly, the compartment door opened and Professor Slughorn came in. Ginny flushed pink and then Slughorn chuckled and said, "That was a good bit of magic now! Ah, Elizabeth, I was looking for you! If you two would like to come with me."
Ginny gave me a nervous look and I rolled my eyes. With a wave of my wand, I performed the counter-curse on Zacharias and left the train compartment without a look backwards. I smirked as I closed the door behind me.
We entered the compartment where a tall black Slytherin was waiting. Blaise Zabini, yuck (yuck only because he was a Slytherin, not because he wasn't hot or nothing). Then there was Cormac McLaggen, a seventh year Gryffindor. Also yuck (because he was a jackass). And then there was a seventh year Ravenclaw by the name of Marcus Belby. I only liked him because his Uncle made the Wolfsbane potion.
Ginny and I sat down across from each other. She was sitting next to Professor Slughorn and I was sitting next to Zabini.
A few moments later, Harry came through the compartment door with Neville.
"Harry, m'boy! Good to see you, good to see you! And you must be Mr. Longbottom!" Professor Slughorn said, jumping to his feet as they came in. Neville nodded and they also sat opposite each other close to the door.
"Now, do you know everyone? Blaise Zabini is in your year, of course." Slughorn started but none of them made any acknowledgement. "This is Cormac McLaggen, perhaps you've come across each other-? No? And this is Marcus Bely, I don't know whether-? -and this charming young lady tells me she knows you!" Slughorn finished. I supposed that was what Ginny and Slughorn had been talking about in the hallway when I was envisioning Tonks finding Harry in the compartment. "And of course Harry, your sister!"
"Er actual-" I spoke awkwardly as the other students shot me a look, but Slughorn was already speaking again.
"A chance to get to know you all a little better. Here, take a napkin. I've packed my own lunch; the trolley, as I remember it, is heavy on licorice wands, and a poor old man's digestive system isn't quite up to such things. . . Pheasant, Belby?"
Belby gave a start and took half a pheasant.
"I was just telling young Marcus here that I had the pleasure of teaching his Uncle Damocles. Outstanding wizard, outstanding and his Order of Merlin most well-deserved. Do you see much of your uncle, Marcus?"
Belby started to choke on his pheasant, not realizing that he'd have to speak. Professor Slughorn pointed his wand at him and said, "Anapneo." Interesting spell, I'd certainly never heard of it before.
"Not. . . not much of him, no." Belby gasped, eyes streaming with watery tears and the purple hue slowly started disappearing from his face.
"Well, of course, I daresay he's busy. I doubt he invented the Wolfsbane potion without considerable hard work!"
"I suppose. . . Er. . . he and my dad don't get on very well, you see, so I don't really know much about. . ." Belby drifted off as Slughorn gave him a strained smile and turned to Cormac.
"Now you, Cormac. I happen to know you see a lot of your Uncle Tiberius, because he has a rather splendid picture of the two of you hunting nogtails in, I think, Norfolk?" Professor Slughorn asked.
"Oh, yeah, that was fun, that was. We went with Bertie Higgs and Rufus Scrimgeour- this was before he became Minister, obviously-"
"Ah you know Bertie and Rufus too?" Slughorn said, offering around a plate of pies that I politely declined. I hated pie. "Now tell me. . ."
I tuned out the rest of the conversation as Slughorn turned Zabini who had a famous mother. I'd heard the stories before. Married seven times to rich men who died under mysterious circumstances. Sometimes, she married rich Muggles and it turned out they were suicidal, jumping off cliffs. Considering he was a Slytherin, I would assume that his mother put a number of spells on the men.
I made sure to tune out Neville's conversation particularly hard as he was getting flustered, his parents being famous Aurors and being tortured so horribly their minds broke. Ginny and Harry were also determinedly blocking out the conversation.
"And now!" Slughorn said, jerking me out of my thoughts. I wished I'd thought to bring a patented daydream charm. "Harry Potter! Where to begin? I feel I barely scratched the surface when we met over the summer! 'The Chosen one', they're calling you now! Of course, there have been rumors for years. . . I remember when- well- after that terrible night- Lily- James- and you survive- and the word was that you must have powers beyond the ordinary-"
Zabini gave a little cough and Ginny burst out angrily, "Yeah, Zabini, because you're so talented. . . at posing. . ."
"Oh dear! You want to be careful, Blaise! I saw this young lady perform the most marvelous Bat-Bogey Hex as I was passing her carriage! I wouldn't cross her!" Professor Slughorn chuckled comfortably. "Anyway, such rumors this summer. Of course, one doesn't know what to believe, the Prophet has been known to print inaccuracies, make mistakes- but there seems little doubt, given the number of witnesses, that there was quite a disturbance at the Ministry and that you were there in the thick of it all!"
Harry nodded but said nothing.
"So modest, so modest, no wonder Dumbledore is so fond- you were there, then? But the rest of the stories- so sensational, of course, one doesn't know quite what to believe- this fabled prophecy, for instance-"
"We never heard a prophecy." Neville said, turning pink.
"That's right. Neville, Eliza, and I were there too, and all this 'Chosen One' rubbish is just the Prophet making things up as usual." Ginny said.
"You were there too, were you?" Slughorn asked with interest, looking between the three of us.
"There were actually quite a few students there." I said dreamily, sounding a bit like Luna. "Ten of us in total."
Slughorn was very interested but I said nothing more and he looked quite disappointed. Then he rambled off about many different things and I watched the sun fall lower in the sky and finally I said, "Professor, I don't mean to be rude, but it's getting very late, I just wanted to warn you!" My cheeks flushed.
Professor Slughorn looked out the window and said, "You are quite right! You'd better go and change into your robes, all of you. McLaggen, you must drop by and borrow that book on nogtails. Harry, Eliza, Blaise- any time you're passing by. Same goes for you, miss!" He said to Ginny and me. "Well, off you go, off you go."
We filed out of the compartment and I stretched, thankful to be out of there. Now, to go find Trang.
"I'm glad that's over." Neville muttered. "Strange man, isn't he?"
"Yeah he is a bit. How come you ended up in there, Ginny?" Harry asked.
"He saw me hex Zacharias Smith. You remember that idiot from Hufflepuff who was in the D.A.? He kept on and on asking about what happened at the Ministry and in the end he annoyed me so much I hexed him- when Slughorn came in I thought I was going to get detention, but he just thought it was a really good hex and invited me to lunch! Mad eh?"
"Better reason for inviting someone than because their mother's famous." Harry said, scowling after Zabini. "Or because their uncle-" He broke off and then he said. "I'll see you three later."
"But what're you-?" Neville asked as Harry flung the cloak over his body.
"Later!" He whispered and he was gone.
I rolled my eyes. "Well, I'm going to go and get my stuff and go find Ron and Hermione and Trang."
"Oh, I know where they're staying!" Neville said, "I'll come with you."
We said good-bye to Ginny and then headed back to the compartment that I'd been in. Susan was no longer there either and Hannah had never come back. I got my stuff and then followed Neville to the compartment with Hermione, Ron, Trang, and Luna.
"What'd he want?" Ron asked.
"Dunno, he never talked to me and I blocked out most of what he said." I answered, sitting down next to Trang and opening the Daily Prophet.
"Where's Harry?" Hermione asked.
"Dunno." Neville answered. "He said he'd be back eventually."
"I'll go find him if the time gets close. Also Trang, Luna here is a fellow Ravenclaw so she'll show you where the Ravenclaw table is."
"Great." Trang said, sounding relieved and Luna smiled at her before disappearing again behind her magazine.
As the train came to a stop and we started to get our stuff out, Harry still had not returned.
"Eliza we have to do our prefect duties." Hermione said nervously, "Where is Harry?"
I hesitated and then turned to others, "Can you guys get my stuff out on the deck?"
Neville, Hermione, and Ron nodded and I dashed out of the door towards where I knew the Slytherins were going to be staying. I watched Zabini, Goyle, and Crabbe coming down the compartment and though they gave me nasty looks, they passed by without a word. Pansy was waiting in the compartment and then she left too, throwing me a nasty look as she passed by.
I heard a crash and knew that Harry had been immobilized.
I rushed to the door, throwing it open, my wand raised. Harry was lying on the floor and Draco was standing over him. Draco spun around and though I had the shield charm halfway out of my mouth, he was faster and my body froze. Draco laid me down next to Harry, smashing my nose in with his foot, and throwing the Invisibility Cloak over the two of us.
Blood rain down my face and onto my clothes. Lovely. My wand was still in my hand and I tried very hard to think of the countercurse. I managed to do it and sat up just as Tonks came into the compartment. There was a flash of red and Harry unfroze as well.
"Wotcher Harry, Wotcher Elizabeth." Tonks said. Harry picked up the invisibility cloak. "We'd better get out of here, quickly. Come on, we'll jump."
We hurried after her into the corridor and she pulled open the train door and jumped onto the platform. I jumped after her, feeling a rush of adrenaline and then Harry landed next to me. The landing, jolted my nose and my hand leapt up to it but didn't touch it.
"Who did it?" Tonks asked.
"Draco Malfoy. Thanks for. . . well. . ." Harry said.
"No problem." Tonks said, not meeting my eyes. "I can fix your nose if you stand still."
Harry and I stayed still as she said "Episkey" twice.
"Thanks a lot!" Harry exclaimed as our noses were mended.
"Thanks." I murmured.
"You'd better put that cloak back on and we can walk up to the school." Tonks said. I turned into a cat, and Harry swung the invisibility cloak over himself. Tonks waved her wand and a wolf appeared and shot off towards the castle.
"Was that a Patronus?" Harry asked.
"Yes, I'm sending word to the castle that I've got you two or they'll worry. Come on, we'd better not dawdle."
"How did you find us?" Harry asked.
"I noticed neither you or Elizabeth had left the train and I knew you had that cloak. I thought you might be hiding for some reason. When I saw the blinds were drawn down on that compartment, I thought I'd check."
"But what are you doing here, anyway?" Harry asked.
"I'm stationed in Hogsmeade now, to give the school extra protection." Tonks said.
"Is it just you who's stationed up here, or-?"
"No, Proudfoot, Savage, and Dawlish are here too."
I wanted to ask how Kingsley was but I had the two-way mirror still and besides, I was a cat- I couldn't talk.
"Dawlish, that Auror Dumbledore attacked last year?"
"That's right."
I started to fall behind, my cat legs much shorter than their human ones and Tonks stopped, bending down and picking me up and carrying me. I purred in her arms and the slightest smile came over her face before flitting away.
We finally made it to the castle and Harry, still hidden under the cloak, rattled the bars and then I heard him say, "Alohomora!"
"That won't work on these, Dumbledore bewitched them himself." Tonks said.
"I could climb a wall." Harry suggested.
"No, you couldn't. Anti-intruder jinxes on all of them. Security's been tightened a hundredfold this summer." Tonks said flatly.
"Well then." Harry said, sounding annoyed, "I suppose I'll just have to sleep out here and wait for morning."
"Someone's coming down for you. Look." Tonks said. I jumped out of her arms and turned into a human. Harry pulled off his invisibility cloak.
"Well, well, well." Professor Snape said. "Nice of you to turn up, Potter, although you evidently decided that the wearing of school robes would detract from your appearance." He tapped the padlock once so that the chains snaked backward and the gates creaked open.
"I couldn't change, I didn't have my-" Harry started.
I was glad I was in my Hogwarts robes, though blood was all down the front of them, and I knew there was dried blood on my face.
"There is no need to wait, Nymphadora, Potter and Kane are quite- ah- safe in my hands." Severus said.
"I meant for Hagrid to get the message." Tonks said, frowning.
"Hagrid was late for the start-of-term feast, just like Potter and Kane here, so I took it instead. And incidentally," Professor Snape said, standing back so that we could pass through. "I was interested to see your new Patronus."
He shut the gates in her face and I frowned at him. "I think you were better off with the old one. The new one looks weak." His voice was full of malice and before I knew what I was doing, anger flew through me and I strode forward and slapped him across the face so hard that it echoed through the courtyard.
"Elizabeth!" Tonks exclaimed but I was already striding off, my anger pulling me towards the castle.
"Elizabeth- wait-!" Harry exclaimed, sounding nervous. I was already on the castle steps and heading up past the front doors and then found my way to the Great Hall. I pulled open the double door with a hard jerk and then hurried off to the Hufflepuff table, my eyes flashing with anger and I sat down next to Ernie.
"What happened to your face?" Susan asked in horror.
"Why, what's wrong with it?" I asked, reaching for a chicken wing.
"You're covered in blood." Ernie said, "what happened?"
"Malfoy." I said darkly, pulling out my wand and closing one eye and pointing it at my own face and said, "Tergeo! Better, Susan?"
"Yeah." Susan said, though her eyes were lingering on my clothes. I pointed my wand at my clothe and said, "Scourgify!"
Harry came into the Great Hall now and hurried down to the Gryffindor table, people whispering and pointing and standing up to look at him.
"So why did you get on Draco's bad side?" Susan asked. Rose had come to sit down next to me. Justin and Zacharias were now sitting closer but Hannah was sitting far away, determinedly avoiding my gaze.
I rolled my eyes, "I've been on his bad side for about five years Susan." Then I sighed and said, "In this particular incident, I was actually just going to save Harry and got caught up between their fight."
"Oh." Ernie said, glancing up at the Professors table.
Dessert appeared and I helped myself to some ice-cream, trying to look over at the Ravenclaw table. Trang was sitting next to Luna, looking down at her dessert and looked up. I smiled at her and winked and she grinned back.
Then Dumbledore stood up and the laughter and talk died away. "The very best of evenings to you!" He said, spreading his arms wide and showing the very tips of his black hand.
There were gasps and outbursts from the tables as they caught sight of his hand. Dumbledore smiled and shook his purple-and-gold sleeve of his robe over his injury and said, "Nothing to worry about. Now. . . to our new students, welcome, to our old students, welcome back! Another year full of magical education awaits you. . .as many of our old students and new students should take to heart is that the Forbidden is off limits- especially now. . . and Mr. Filch, our caretaker, has asked me to say that there is a blanket ban on any joke items bought at the shop called Weasleys' Wizards Wheezes. Those wishing to play for their House Quidditch teams should give their names to their Heads of House as usual. We are also looking for new Quidditch commentators, who should do likewise. We are pleased to welcome a new member of staff this year. Professor Slughorn is a former colleague of mine who has agreed to resume his old post of Potions master."
"Potions?"
"Potions?"
"Potions?"
The word seemed to spread around the Great Hall as people tried to figure out what that meant. Ernie and Susan were showing identical faces of shock. Rose was looking around, frowning, trying to figure out what the significance of this word was.
"Professor Snape, meanwhile, will be taking over the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher!" Professor Dumbledore said.
"NO!" Harry shouted loudly at the Gryffindor table while the Slytherins exploded into cheering and clapping. Other students looked at each other, muttering.
"Dumbledore is going to let him teach Defense Against the Dark Arts?" Ernie asked, shocked. "How could he?"
Susan, Rose, Ernie, and I were all in a small little huddle. I could feel Professor Snape's eyes on me, but I was to angry at him to acknowledge him.
Dumbledore cleared his throat and the buzzing died down. "Now, as everybody in this Hall knows, Lord Voldemort and his followers are once more at large and gaining in strength. I cannot emphasize strongly enough how dangerous the present situation is, and how much care each of us at Hogwarts must take to ensure that we remain safe."
I looked over at the Slytherin table to see that Draco was levitating his fork with his wand, not paying attention to Dumbledore. Deciding that I too was bored, I lowered my wand under the table and muttered, "Acuelo!"
Immediately, his concentration on his fork dropped and the gold fork dropped against the golden plate, making the loudest clatter that sounded throughout the hall. I grinned, watching him bend down with a pink face to grab his stinging knee. Dumbledore didn't break stride in his speech, but I heard Severus' voice, plain as day in my head, 'Enough.'
I scowled, dropping my face back to my plate, not acknowledging him.
"The castle's magical fortifications have been strengthened over the summer, we are protected in new and more powerful ways, but we must still guard scrupulously against carelessness on the part of any student or member of staff. I urge you, therefore, to abide by any security restrictions that your teachers might impose upon you, however irksome you might find them- in particular, the rule that you are not to be out of bed after hours. I implore you, should you notice anything strange or suspicious within or outside the castle, to report it to a member of staff immediately. I trust you to conduct yourselves, always, with the utmost regard for your own and others' safety."
There was a bit of silence and then Dumbledore smiled and said, "But now, your beds await, as warm and comfortable as you could possibly wish, and I know that your top priority is to be well rested for your lessons tomorrow. Let us therefore say good night. Pip pip!"
Ernie and I got up to approach the new first-years and we led them through the castle and taught them the password at the door and then Ernie led the boys up through one door and I led the girls up to their dorm in another one.
Then, reluctantly, I headed into my own dorm where Susan, Megan, Leanne, and Hannah were. Megan and Leanne were deep in conversation and I'd never really spoken to them. Hannah had her back to me and I motioned to Susan to come out of the dorm.
"What's up?" she asked.
I hesitated and then said, "I wanted to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. Madam Bones. . . well she was a really great witch Susan."
Susan blinked sudden tears out of her eyes and said, "Thanks Elizabeth. I'm really sorry about your Godfather too."
I nodded, looking down. "It's alright, it's how he wanted to go. He always wanted to go down fighting." I smiled a bit, now looking up at the ceiling. "That's how I want to go too if I don't make it."
"Me too." Susan said softly.
We went back into the dorm and I stood there awkwardly, looking at Hannah's back. And then she turned to face me and said, "I just wanted to say thank you for warning me ahead of time."
"Er-, you don't seem happy about it." I said hesitantly.
She hesitated too and said, "Mum doesn't believe. . . she doesn't. . . she thinks it was a joke."
I closed my eyes with horror. "I'm sorry Hannah."
Her eyes were filled with tears. Susan had our backs to us but Leanne and Megan were looking on with interest. "I just. . . I'm glad you warned me anyways. I've told my other family members not to pull me out. I'm already prepared and I don't want to leave Hogwarts anyways."
"It's going to be okay." Susan said softly now, putting a hand on Hannah's shoulder.
Hannah nodded and climbed into bed.
Soon, Hannah, Susan, Leanne, and Megan were all fast asleep. I kept pacing the room, unable to sleep. I kept picturing Severus's horribly mean face and the malice in his voice as he said, 'The new one looks weak'.
Finally out of frustration, I walked out of the girls dorm and turned into a cat outside the Hufflepuff dorm and started to head towards the potions room before remembering that Snape was no longer teaching potions and had to take a much longer route to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom.
I turned human once inside the classroom and headed up to where the office was, knocking on the door.
"Come in." a sleek voice said.
I pushed the door open and walked inside, closing the door behind me.
"Oh." Severus said, dropping his quill on his desk. "Er I didn't think you'd come tonight."
I didn't say anything.
Severus stood up and approached me and said, "Look-"
"Don't." I said coldly.
"No?" Severus said, raising an eyebrow, his tone close to matching mine. "I think I should get a say in the matter."
I glared at him. "You said her patronus was weak, Severus. And you know perfectly well what her patronus looked like and why that offended me!"
Severus strode over to me, pushing me up against the door and putting a finger to my lips. "I didn't say it looked weak because of the animal it took. I said it looked weak because it was weak. It wasn't as bright as it used to be and it was certainly less solid than her old one was."
I opened my mouth to speak and he pinched it closed between his thumb and pointer finger. "Though I must admit. . ." He leaned forward so that our cheeks were touching and his lips were close to my ear, "you get your point across through. . . actions. . ."
I blushed bright red, feeling flustered. His hand was snaking around towards my backside and his other hand moved from my lips, down to the side of my neck. He pressed his lips to mine and I closed my eyes. I found my hands were on the front of his shirt, pulling him to me.
I couldn't stay mad at him forever. I loved him to much, it was a flaw. I couldn't stay mad at Fred or Cedric or Harry or Dad either. I loved all of them too much. And then, I pushed away from the door, pushing Severus towards the bed with so much force, he fell backwards perfectly. I jumped up high, almost like a cat and landed ontop of him gently.
Severus grabbed my hips, rolling over ontop of me now, our clothes coming off in layers. He immediately hooked my legs over his shoulders, burying his face into my cunt. I whimpered, closing my eyes in pleasure as he ran his tongue through my folds, adding two lovely fingers to work me up.
"Severus please." I begged through a whisper, wishing I could grab his hair, bring him closer to me.
"Let go love." Severus murmured and I released on his lips and tongue.
He smirked as he pulled back, taking his cock into his hand, before lining himself up with my entrance. He pushed himself inside until he was balls deep.
Now my hands did come up, one lacing through the soft strands of his silky black hair, the other gripping his shoulder tightly.
He moved slowly and sensually as he usually did, his lips kissing my collarbone and breasts. I hummed in content, kissing his cheek and shoulders, whatever skin I could reach.
He grabbed both of my hands in one of his, pinning them above my head as he took one of my nipples into his mouth. He thrusted a little harder, his free hand reaching between our bodies to roll my clit between his fingers.
"I love you Elizabeth. I don't ever want you to forget that." Severus whispered softly across my skin.
"I'm sorry I slapped you." I apologized, cunt fluttering around his cock as he continued to fuck me. "I'm sorry I lost my temper. I'm sorry I only had a one track mind about the situation instead of hearing what you really meant. I'm sorry."
"I accept all of your apologies." Severus said, suddenly pulling my body upright so that I was straddling him in his lap. I wrapped my arms around his waist, crying out at the new angle as he thrusted up into me. "And now I want you to cum all over my cock like a good girl."
"Fuck." I whimpered, doing just that, feeling my release wash over me hot and then cold. He spilled into me, kissing my neck and then my lips.
"I love you too Severus. I love you a lot." I whispered softly.
Severus gently pulled out of me, using a simple spell to clean the both of us up, before he wrapped the sheets around my naked body. He tucked himself behind me, wrapping his arms around me.
He kissed my cheek, his fingers in my hair. I closed my eyes with a small smile on my face. And I could still feel him running his fingers through my hair as I fell asleep.

can you do a part 3 for the sonny/spurs women one xx
Part 1 - Part 2
You can’t deny it took longer than it should have taken you to get ready in the locker room, some stolen -or borrowed- clothes here and there so as not to go out with the spurs ladies suit.
He stands with the back to the wall waiting for you and gives you one of his smiles when he sees you. He takes you to a diner not too crowded considering the time, located in a side street that you walked down by placing your car in a nearby parking lot. He tells you how he found that place when he went out to explore the city and feel it more his once he got there. And all you do is look at him fascinated, deep down longing for this moment all your life.
Laughing and joking while drinking those hot drinks, he obviously doesn’t stop including in every conversation the bet he won and you remind him of the goal clamed by him but which was 100% Harry Kane’s. He shakes his head watching you, the smile that pops into your face every time you mention your team. The glint in your eyes when you remember something you can tease him with.
And on the way to his car he holds your hand, you let him do it by making a smile appear on your face -as if you hadn’t had it for hours. A kiss on the cheek when you’re at the front door of your house before he turns around and goes back to his car.
“Sonny” the guy turns around, nose slightly red from the air still a little cold and hands in his pocket, “rematch next season”

( DIEGO TINOCO. 20. CIS MALE. HE/HIM. ) in texas, NOLAN MACIAS is known to most as BOSTON. they have been riding with the diablos for ONE YEAR. they originally from MASSACHUSETTS and the PROSPECT is known to be very IMPATIENT & IMPULSIVE but the other club members will tell you they are STAUNCH & DRIVEN. as the years go by, they’ve gained a lot of respect in the club and around town. they rarely ever drive a car but when they do HOMELESS by ED SHEERAN is usually heard blasting. ( all his belongings in one black backpack, crumpled photographs in tight fists, bouncing with too much energy and nowhere to put it, riding a skateboard until it breaks, smoking a joint in the spotlight of a street lamp. ) [ skye. 24. est. she/her. ]
meet my lil baby who has had a rather rough go... but he’s still chipper and bouncy in life, give me ur attitude pls and thank.
nolan was born in boston, given up for adoption at a very young age. young enough that he doesn’t remember his parents or know why he was given up but he didn’t want to dwell on it too much. he tried to imagine that his parents had good reasons/intentions.
he was bounced around between thirteen different foster homes, some of which he had no idea why they didn’t want him. one home he was kicked out of because he was “too hyper” (ironically this family had taken his weed away when they caught him with it, so his energy and hyperactivity rose and then...), another was because he was caught smoking weed and kicked out, then there were two of the most prominent times he left a home. one with mr & mrs murray, and another time with the taylor family.
starting with mr & mrs Murray, who were an older couple, around their early 50s/late 40s. they were amazing to him, damn ge loved them so much. it had been Mrs murrays idea to foster a child, and nolan came bouncing out with his bright eyes and smile and they fell in love. he was around ten years old. he stayed with them for about ten months, made a home of their house and a family with them. they would have kept him, but sadly, mrs Murray suffered a fatal heart attack. mr Murray claimed that nolan reminded him too much of his late wife, and wouldn’t be able to care for him on his own, so nolan was put back in the system.
then comes the taylor family, and this one isnt so heartfelt. tw sexual assault when nolan was fostered by the Taylor's, he was not their first foster child. they were about to adopt their first, a girl a year or two older than nolan, named layla. to nolan, this meant a sister. to layla, she saw someone her parents might prefer and therefore was a threat to her adoption. nolan was 14 at this point, and layla being around 15/16. layla knew the rules of the foster system in and out, knew that you dont mess around with you foster siblings. so, she used that. she moved onto nolan, flirting and touching (just like his arm and more hugs than usual), but then she pulled him in for a kiss right as she knew her parents would see. since she was their first (and pretty much favourite by default), they sided with her that nolan instigated it and he was put out of the house.
after that, he stuck to mostly group homes. one of which was out of MA, and where he got his nickname boston. upon moving in, there was already a kid named nolan so they started calling him boston instead. he made good friends in this home, and he liked it there a lot, so he kept the nickname. its endearing to him.
eventually, boston aged out of the system. when that happened, he tried to make it on his own. he had some government help obviously, but it wasn’t enough for him to live properly. he had received a postcard from a friend from a previous group home who had been moved out to texas through different families, so, boston decided to head south.
he brought with him only a black backpack with photos of mr & mrs murray and some of his friends, some clothing he had and a couple twenty dollar bills and his skateboard.
he learned about the mc’s rather quickly and well... he had a hollywood image of them but he still was very interested in them. he decided to try and become a prospect for the diablos. he doesn’t have many ties to anything or anyone and he wants to. he wants a family, so this is how he sees the diablos.
when he settled in Texas, he got a hold of Mr Murray to tell him he was okay. he still keeps in touch with him every so often.
considering he doesnt have a job because he doesnt have much experience, he doesn't really have anywhere to live so he sneaks in and out of the clubhouse to crash there most nights, if he doesnt pass out at a friend's.
he is a gaybey though he doesn’t really realize it yet, considering he knows nothing really lasts in his life, he hasn’t focused or been particularly interested in romantic relationships. he prefers to just stick to the momentary friendships and families he has then. so, this also means my lil boy is a virgin as well.
despite the crappy hands that have been dealt to him, Boston is a pretty happy go lucky guy. he smokes weed, has since he was a preteen and his hyperactivity got him into a fight with another kid. he uses it to chill out, not really for getting high you know?? while he can seem naive, he isn’t because he clearly has been through some shit and would love to see the good in people but knows it isn't always that simple. pls be nice to him, he needs soft and nice things in his life.
connections
lorenzo kane /  father figure. they are gonna be real close, folks. boston eventually is gonna crash at his place and renzo is gonna be his forever family :))))
calla scott /  big sister or mothery figure. they smoke weed together, he is soft with him.
oliver harris /  spring awakening.  they gonna fool around, boston is gonna realize he’s gay. it’s glorious.
I'll update these when ichat home because he has more lol

A Second Decade of Movies
Ten years ago on Facebook, I compiled a list of every movie I watched, in order, from the first decade of the network’s existence. Now, here’s part two, covering the years 2010-2019. There are 754 titles below, though some are repeat viewings. The movie I watched the most? Harold Lloyd in “The Freshman.” My favorite movie from the last decade? “The Tree of Life.”
But I began the 2010s with James Cameron’s mega-hit “Avatar.” I’ll go on record saying the movie is still enjoyable ten years later, as I watched it again in 2019 with my kids to prep for visiting the World of Pandora at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. But--I also agree with those who say there’s little remembered from the film in the culture today. Can you name the stars? Recount the plot in detail? Mostly what we remember from the film is the spectacle of it all, game-changing when it was released in 2009.
At any rate, enjoy the list below! If a title is hotlinked, it will take you to an essay, interview, or related coverage on the film by yours truly.

𝕬𝖙 𝖋𝖎𝖗𝖘𝖙, 𝕴 thought Fred and George were playing a prank on me and I didn't fight immediately. And then I saw that there were five Death Eaters, one of them holding me and I screamed. "DAAADDDD!!" I screamed as loudly as possible, panic setting in.
The Death Eater clamped a hand over my mouth and I tried to bite his fingers and knock his wand out of his hand at the same time. I knew he couldn't disparate without his wand. The wand fell to the ground and he tackled me to the ground, trying to keep a hold on me while he grabbed his wand.
A different Death Eater grabbed me, pulling me up. By this time, Bill, Uncle Moody, and Dad had torn around the corner, wands raised. Dad's eyes were murderous. Spells started to fly as I fought against the Death Eater holding me.
How had they found me? Of course, they would know about Mr. Weasley so they would've known that I would be here. And then I'd come out by myself. . . I'd practically handed myself to them.
I elbowed the Death Eater in the face. He reared back, grabbing my hair to make sure I didn't escape and I yelled out in pain, my head jerking back as a reflex.
"Disapparate with her!" One of the other Death Eaters called, shooting spells at Bill. "We'll hold them off."
The Death Eater holding me struggled to his feet and raised his wand. I remembered at that moment that I was wearing Heelys, and I jammed the wheel out and kicked my foot as hard as possible against his knee. There was a cracking sound and he screamed, letting go of me, both hands flying to his knee, falling to the ground.
I jumped away from him, darting past the other Death Eaters on my wheels, though one tried to grab me, and slid towards dad. He grabbed my arm, drawing me behind him and then pushed me into the alleyway where Mundungus and Mrs. Weasley had their wands drawn. The other kids were in the car. Mrs. Weasley pushed me towards the car, her eyes not leaving the front of the alley.
I climbed in the car without hesitation, sitting down and wrapping my arms around my knees, shaken. Bill, Dad, and Uncle Moody came back after a few minutes.
I was shaking terribly and Dad made a beeline for me, telling Mundungus to take a long route home in case they tried to follow us.
"How'd they know?" Mrs. Weasley asked, shaking, her face white. Fred, George, Ron, Ginny, Hermione, and Harry's faces were all white as well although Fred and George looked annoyed. I assumed that they had tried to get out and fight as well and Mrs. Weasley hadn't let them.
"They knew I'd be visiting Mr. Weasley." I mumbled, still shaking. If dad hadn't been holding me, I might've crumbled into pieces.
"We need to let Dumbledore know right away." Uncle Moody was growling, his eye swirling.
"Is this the first time they've tried to get to you?" Bill asked, looking at me with a questioning look on his face.
"Of course they knew what they were doing!" Uncle Moody growled. "They work for You-Know-Who they aren't just going to try a kidnap operation without some knowledge or plan."
My face grew hot but I couldn't stop shaking. "Er- well- no."
"What?" Dad asked furiously and I looked up at him guiltily.
"The er- day Hermione came home, I'd been out all night because I'd taken a walk into the city... well I wasn't expecting. . . and Lucius Malfoy was there. . . and er. . . well, I barely escaped them then. . ."
Dad was shaking now too- with anger. "You left the house!"
"I'm sorry". I whispered. "I didn't know. . . I didn't think. . . I had to get out of the house and be by myself for a little bit and. . . I'm so sorry."
I didn't cry, I just continued to shake and I put my elbows on my knees and my face in my hands. Dad kept his arm around my shoulders tightly.
Mundungus was still driving and Uncle Moody's eyes was rolling 360 degrees, searching. "I don't think they're out there Remus." He said after about an hour of aimless driving. Dad just nodded his head stiffly and Mundungus guided the car back to Grimmauld place. He dropped us off and we all rushed inside.
Sirius was waiting for us, humming Christmas tunes. He took one look at us and stopped humming. The others dispersed up the stairs. Mad-Eye stomped to the kitchen with Bill to write a letter to Dumbledore.
Mrs. Weasley bustled into the kitchen as well to start cooking dinner. Dad was still furious and I was still shaking.
"What's wrong?" Sirius asked, looking between Uncle Moody, Bill, Dad, and I. "What happened?"
"Death Eaters." Bill answered, "Tell Dumbledore about the Azkaban breakout Mad-Eye."
"Azkaban breakout!" Sirius exclaimed.
"Elizabeth saw it." Dad grunted. He still hadn't taken his arm from around my shoulder which was fine by me.
"Is she okay?" Sirius asked, looking from me to dad.
"Er, well no Sirius." Bill said. "The Death Eaters kind've ambushed us at St. Mungo's. . . they nearly got away with Elizabeth too."
Sirius looked furious. "But how'd they know she was there! How'd they think they were going to get away with that!"
"Because they knew Dad was in the hospital." Bill answered at the same time Dad said, "Because they already, very nearly, got away with her once already this break."
Sirius looked at me. "What do you mean Remus?"
"I mean that she snuck out one night, the night before she got sick, and they nearly caught her." Dad growled.
"You snuck out!" Sirius asked furiously, glaring at me.
"I just wanted to go on a walk." I muttered, my tongue finally coming loose. "I couldn't stay in the house. . . Lucius Malfoy found me about five miles from here. . . I had turned human for just a few moments. . . that was it."
"I'm going to kill him." Sirius said in a very even voice.
Dad led me into the kitchen. Mrs. Weasley put a cup of tea down in front of me.
My hands were trembling horribly.
"Anything else we should add to the letter Elizabeth?" Uncle Moody asked. "I mentioned Bode, Death Eaters, and the breakout."
I paused for a moment and said, "I don't. . . I don't think so. . ."
Uncle Moody sealed up the letter and said. "I should get back to the office. I'll tell Tonks and Kingsley to keep an eye out as well. Maybe they can up the dementors on Antonin's cell." He stomped out of the room.
My legs were shaking horribly but I stood up anyone and mumbled, "I'm going. . . I'm going to go. . . go upstairs and. . ."
"Yes." Dad interrupted me so I didn't have to try and spit the whole sentence out. He was still hugging me fiercely. "Go get some sleep."
I stumbled out of the room and upstairs and closed my bedroom door. I collapsed on bed and exploded into terrified sobs. Oh God, I could've been in front of Voldemort at this moment. At that point, my locket burned me deeply and I ripped it off, dropping it on the table.
From across the hall, I heard Harry cry out in pain.
"What's wrong?" Ron asked in a concerned voice.
"He's really angry.." I heard Harry say.
"You think it's because. . ." Hermione drifted off.
"Yeah." Harry said. "probably because his Death Eater's failed to bring Liz to him."
"You were right there too!" Ron exclaimed. "Why didn't they try and grab you?"
"Because they want her visions." Hermione said. I threw my pillow over my head so that I could try and block them out.

𝕿𝖍𝖊 𝖉𝖔𝖔𝖗𝖇𝖊𝖑𝖑 𝖗𝖆𝖓𝖌 below, startling me awake. I found that my head was no longer under my pillow. Perhaps dad had come in and tucked me in. Yes, the blankets were settled more neatly around me. I rubbed my eyes.
Mrs. Black was screaming in her portrait and then the door to my bedroom slammed open, the door handle bouncing off the wall, leaving a dent there.
"Oh no." I muttered as Severus slammed the door closed.
"Are. You. An. Idiot!" He snarled, striding over to me. "I told you to stay with people and what do you do! You leave St. Mungo's by yourself!"
I climbed out of bed and he pushed me back down on the bed gently, which greatly contradicted his furious tone of voice. "No, you stay in bed."
"I didn't realize-"
"Stop. Talking." He hissed. "Do you know how close you came from being taken!"
"Yes!" I said, nearly in tears again. "I was there! Mr. Weasley just held me back a few extra seconds and I didn't know where they'd gone and I didn't know they were going to attack me with five members of the order there!"
He pressed his lips to mine and the urge to cry was gone. I kissed him back eagerly and he pulled me to his chest. "I can't lose you Elizabeth. Not like that. Damnit! Don't you understand how much he wants you? He was willing to risk five Death Eaters to get you. If you hadn't broken Nott's knee. . ."
"I broke it?" I asked in surprise.
"Yes and if anything, it's made the Dark Lord even more eager to get to you. He wants you to pay. You cannot leave anymore, do you understand?"
I scowled at him, rebellion fighting in my veins. "You're not my dad."
"No, I'm not." He said, pulling me back to look at me face. "But I know for a fact that while your father and I don't get along, he'd agree with me on this. Don't you dare leave this house without supervision. It'd probably be best if you don't leave period."
"Alright, fine." I said, giving in. I wasn't eager to leave anyways. I just hated being told what to do.
"How did you break his knee?" Severus asked curiously. "I didn't realize you were that strong."
In answer, I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled his mouth to mine. When we pulled apart, he said, "Point taken."
I said, "Tonks gave me these shoes for Christmas. They have wheels on the backs of them." I pointed to them, laying on the floor. I didn't remember taking them off. "I popped the wheel out. It probably hurt a lot."
"Remind me to thank Tonks." Severus murmured, running his mouth down my neck.
"How long are you staying?" I asked breathless.
"Only a few minutes." Severus said, his breath tickling my neck. I shivered. "I had to yell at you."
I giggled nervously. "What time is it?"
"Nearly five thirty." He said, bringing his mouth back to mine. "But Sirius said you can sleep through the Christmas party if you want."
"You should just stay over." I said, whispering against his cheek. "I think that'd be much preferred."
He laughed low. "I don't think your father would approve."
I frowned. "No, I suppose he wouldn't."
He hesitated, his fingers in my hair and then said, "You know. . . I've always hated both your dads. . . but there is something I must give Remus credit for. . ."
"What?" I asked.
"Now, if you tell him I will never talk to you again but the thing is. . . I think privately I've always admired him. . ."
I was stunned and then smiled incredulously. "Are you just saying that?" I asked, genuinely puzzled.
He laughed a little louder. "No." he pressed his lips to mine again. "No. . . it's something I've never wanted to admit before either. . . not even to myself but you have to admire him. . . you know? He's a werewolf and he still keeps his head high. I don't think I could. . . it's a trait that he passed on to you, you know. You have the same resilience."
I was actually stunned.
"Don't you dare tell him I said that either." He said, kissing me again. "Promise?"
"Promise." I said, reaching up and kissing him. "But I don't think he'd believe me anyways."
"No." Severus sounded amused. "I suppose he wouldn't. Wonder if he would ever say anything good about me."
"He already has." I said, also amused. "In my third year. Complimented your potion skills and that he was lucky that you were willing to make the wolfsbane potion for you."
He looked a bit stunned and then said, "You know? I think if I try hard enough, I might just be able to get along with him."
I laughed aloud and then grinned and said sincerely. "You know I would absolutely love you two getting along. But I'm not so worried about that. I'm more worried about you and Sirius getting along."
"Yeah. . ." Severus said slowly. "That's not happening."
I laughed again. "No, I suppose not." I kissed him again, happy. "I ought to go down and join the party."
"I'll see you when you get back to school." He said. "And please, please, please Elizabeth? Don't get in a bind like that ever again. I can't lose you."
"Alright." I said, my heart hurting that he was begging. "I won't, I promise." He kissed me again and then left. I sighed, flopping down on my bed.
A second later Dad's voice said, "Well that was interesting."
I was so scared that I fell off my bed. I glanced over to see that Dad had been sitting in the shadows the entire time. There had been a pillow under his head so he must've fallen asleep in the room until Severus had come in. He got up from the chair now as I crashed to floor.
"Sorry." Dad said, coming over and helping me off the floor. "I didn't mean to scare you."
"How much did you hear!" I asked, a flush coming up into my cheeks.
"The entire thing. I woke up when the doorbell went off." But dad sounded more amused than anything else.
"Well at least you'll believe me if I tell you that Severus admires you." I said, still feeling scared. I pressed my hand to my rapidly beating heart and laid down on the bed again. "Bloody hell dad I think I had a heart attack."
"I am sorry." dad said, sounding more sincere.
"It's alright. Who all is here?" I asked. My nerves felt frayed, my heart pounding, head throbbing, adrenaline coursing through my veins.
"Same crew as last night plus Mundungus." Dad said.
"They all know not to mention me being an Animagus to Harry right?"
"They all know." Dad said.
"Then I suppose I'll come down." I said, taking a deep breath. I put on the Heelys and went down the stairs- dad leading.
Everyone greeted me quite brightly and I grabbed a plate and mostly stood in the corner, eating rather than talking to anyone. I noticed Tonks wasn't there.
"Where's Tonks?" I asked Kingsley.
"At work." Kingsley said. "We got a message that Nott, a suspected Death Eater's knee was broken. Tonks is trying to tie it to your attack. How'd you break his knee without your wand, I must ask?"
I pointed to my shoes, picking up a foot to show the wheels. "Tonks gave them to me for Christmas and the wheels probably hurt against the knee. I used all my force."
"Well, I give all the credit to you." Kingsley said, drinking whatever he was drinking. "Your dad's been very er. . . enthusiastic about getting Nott arrested.
"I'm not surprised." I said lightly. "apparently we're a lot alike. I wish someone would get rid of Umbridge. . ."
"I've never liked working with her." Kingsley commented.
"You work with her?" I asked disgusted. "I'm so sorry."
Kingsley burst out laughing and Fred, Dung, and George who were nearby burst out laughing too.
Nearing the end of the party Kingsley said, "I got you something for Christmas."
"Oh?" I asked, feeling guilty. "You shouldn't've. I didn't get you anything."
Kingsley chuckled. "It was a last minute thing." He handed a mirror to me and I looked at it curiously. The mirror showed my reflection for a moment and then it turned black, like it was showing me the inside of a pocket. It wasn't a big mirror, maybe about 7 inches by 8 inches.
"It's a two way mirror." Kingsley said. "I have the other mirror. I want you to use it in case. . . well in case you're not so lucky next time."
Well, at least he wasn't deceiving me like Dad, Sirius, and Severus saying Voldemort would never get his hands on me.
"Thank you." I said softly.
"Also, if you need anyone to talk to or you want updates on your dad, just use it, alright?"
I looked at him in surprise. "Thank you."
He grinned. "I'm not saying I'm giving you Order secrets but I'll be able to let you know how your dad is if your worried about him."
I hugged him as a thank you, kissed his cheek, and then I went upstairs to go to bed.
Over the next few days, I kept spending time with Sirius in Buckbeak's room because he was getting gloomy again. Of course, I wasn't his favorite person at the moment either when he found out that Severus and I were engaged. Him and dad actually got into a shouting match when the Weasleys were at St. Mungo's, waking up Mrs. Black. I had to listen to it and I could only be glad that Kreacher was all the way up in the attic because Voldemort didn't need to know that Severus and I were engaged.
Basically, Sirius was mad that Dad had let me get engaged to a Death Eater. And of course, Sirius had his biases against Severus because of at school. Dad of course said he didn't like Severus that much either but had to admit that Severus was going to protect me. Sirius said Dad was blind because obviously Severus was just going to bring me to Voldemort.
As Kreacher went down the stairs I went into the kitchen and told both of them to shut up before Kreacher overheard them and Sirius went to close Mrs. Black's portrait.
Dad was gone for a couple of days- full moon. The day before we went back to Hogwarts, Severus came by. He asked for privacy in the kitchen but allowed Sirius and me to stay in there. He allowed me because I'd already foreseen it, and he'd grudgingly allowed Sirius because I had a feeling he wasn't wanting to fight with him.
Sirius and Severus sat across from each other, glaring at each other while I sat a little ways down, sitting on Severus' side, my back against the wall. A few minutes later and Harry walked into the kitchen.
"Er." Harry said.
"Sit down Potter."
"You know, I think I'd prefer it if you didn't give orders here, Snape. It's my house, you see." Sirius said loudly.
"I was supposed to see you alone, Potter." Severus said as Harry sat down next to Sirius. "but Black-"
"I'm his godfather." Sirius said, still louder than ever.
"I am here on Dumbledore's orders, but by all means stay, Black, I know you like to feel... involved." Severus said in a very quiet voice. I kicked him lightly with my bare foot.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Sirius asked, letting his chair fall bac onto all four legs with a loud bang- he'd been leaning back in it.
"Merely that I am sure you feel- ah-" I kicked him again, a bit harder and he looked at me, cleared his throat and said, "The headmaster has sent me to tell you, Potter, that it is his wish for you to study Occlumency this term."
"Study what?" Harry asked.
Severus sneered. "Occlumency, Potter. The magical defense of the mind against external penetration. An obscure branch of magic, but a highly useful one."
"Why do I have to study Occlu- thing?" Harry asked quickly.
"Because the headmaster thinks it is a good idea. You will receive private lessons once a week, but you will note tell anybody what you are doing, least of all Dolores Umbridge. You understand?" Severus asked smoothly.
"Yes. Who's going to be teaching me?" Harry asked, shooting me a hopeful glance. It wasn't a bad idea either, I'd be a nicer teacher than Severus at least.
"I am." Severus said.
Harry quickly looked from me to Sirius.
"Why can't Dumbledore teach, Harry? Why you?" Sirius asked with more aggression than was necessary.
"I suppose because it is a headmaster's privilege to delegate less enjoyable tasks." Severus said in a silky voice and I giggled, pressing a hand against my mouth to silence myself. "I assure you I did not beg for the job. I will expect you at six o' clock on Monday evening, Potter. My office. If anybody asks, you are taking Remedial Potions. Nobody who has seen you in my classes could deny you need them." He stood up, his black traveling cloak settling around him.
"Wait a moment." Sirius said, sitting up straighter in his chair than he originally had been.
Severus turned, sneering. "I am in rather a hurry, Black. . . unlike you, I do not have unlimited leisure time..."
"Severus. . ." I muttered under my breath quietly.
"I'll get to the point then." Sirius said, standing up. "If I heard you're using these Occlumency lessons to give Harry a hard time, you'll have me to answer to."
"How touching, but surely you have noticed that Potter is very like his father?" Severus asked.
"Yes, I have." Sirius said and his voice was extremely proud.
"Well then, you'll know he's so arrogant that criticism simply bounces off of him." Severus said.
Sirius pushed his chair roughly aside and strode towards Severus, pulling out his wand. Severus whipped his own out.
"Sirius!" Harry said loudly. I had gotten to my feet, drifting closer to Severus.
"I've warned you, Snivellus. I don't care if Dumbledore and Remus and Eilís think you have reformed. I know better-"
"Oh, but why don't you tell him so." Severus said. "Or are you afraid he might not take the advice of a man who has been hiding inside his mother's house for six months very seriously?"
"Tell me, how is Lucius Malfoy these days? I expect he's delighted his lapdog's working at Hogwarts, isn't he?" Sirius snarled. I hissed.
"Speaking of dogs, did you know that Lucius Malfoy recognized you last time you risked a little jaunt outside. Clever idea, Black, getting yourself seen on a safe station platform. . . gave you a cast-iron excuse not to leave your hidey-hole in future, didn't it? At least until Elizabeth saved your ass by leaking a false trail in Thailand."
Sirius raised his wand. "NO!" Harry yelled, vaulting over the table. "Sirius, don't-"
I darted in front of Severus, blocking him with my body.
"Are you calling me a coward?" Sirius roared, trying to push Harry out of the way though he didn't budge.
"Why, yes, I suppose I am." Severus said, trying to move me but I wouldn't move either.
"Harry- get- out- of- it!" Sirius snarled, shoving Harry.
"Elizabeth, move." Severus muttered, one hand on my waist, trying to push me out of the way.
The kitchen door opened and we all looked over. The Weasley were entering, in the middle was Mr. Weasley who said cheerfully, "Cured! Completely Cured!" Then, they all froze, taking in Severus and Sirius who were looking at the door, their wands still pointed at each others face, my arms pinning Severus to the wall, and Harry standing in front of Sirius.
"Merlin's beard, what's going on here?" Mr. Weasley asked.
Severus pocketed his wand and strode out of the kitchen, past the Weasleys. "Six o'clock Monday evening, Potter."
I hurried out of the kitchen after him. "Severus. . ." I whispered as Mr. Weasley talked to Sirius back in the kitchen.
Severus took a deep breath. "Sorry" he said, not sounding sorry at all. I sighed.
"I'll see you tomorrow? Okay?" I reached up on my toes and kissed him. He left and I headed up the stairs.
About half an hour later Harry came to see me, knocking on the door.
"Come in." I said. I was laying on my bed reading a very battered copy of IT. "Oh, hello Harry." I closed the book, tossing it onto the bed. "What's up?"
"Er, in the kitchen. . . you called Snape 'Severus'."
I blushed. "Oh, um yeah."
"So that vision you had, of the two of you. . . did that er. . . come true?" Harry asked. He looked so much like our dad that it was like seeing a living photo of him- except the eyes of course.
"Oh well. . . we're not married but um. . ." I held up my left hand, showing him the ring. "He er- proposed Christmas Eve."
"That's so weird." Harry said, shaking his head.
"Hey, don't tell anyone, okay? The last thing I need is people thinking my grades are good because Severus and I are romantically involved, and I don't want Umbridge to know either and we'd both just rather keep it a secret until I become of age, Okay? Like. . . not even Hermione and Ron okay? Just a secret between the two of us? Brother-sister secret?"
"Sure." Harry said.
I was still worried however after he'd left. What if Voldemort pulled that piece of information out of his head? I mean, Voldemort might not kill Sev but still. . .
I laid down on the bed, worry eating me up from the inside. I was worried about Harry and I was worried about Trang and I also had a strange, intense worry about Sirius that seemed to out worry every other worry.
I fell into a horrible sleep.
In the morning, Dad and Tonks were there to take us to Hogwarts by taking the Knight Bus.
Tonks greeted me with a huge hug and said, "Thank you so much for the Firebolt!"
I had kept my promise from the summer by buying her a firebolt for Christmas. Dad had told me I was not to get him a new broom when I wanted to so I'd gotten him new robes. He was still a bit frustrated with this, he hated me buying him things even though he was buying me things.
"You're welcome." I said. "And thanks for the Heelys, they pretty much saved my life. Professor Snape also said to tell you thanks for him."
"And I must thank you for giving her Heelys." Sirius and Dad said at the same time in the same tone.
"Good-bye Harry, take care." Mrs. Weasley said, giving Harry a hug after she'd hugged everyone else.
"See you Harry, and keep an eye out for snakes for me!" Mr. Weasley said, shaking his hand. I grinned. Harry seemed distracted.
"Right-yeah." Harry said, but he was looking at Sirius. Mrs. Weasley and Mr. Weasley turned to their children. I faced Sirius too. How could I tell him to be careful?
Sirius gave each of us a one-armed hug so that he was hugging both of us at the same time and said, "Look after yourselves you two." I kissed his cheek and hugged him hard and then Tonks- who had suddenly become a tall, much older woman, was moving us down the sidewalk. I looked back at Sirius for what I felt was going to be the last time and then the door was closed.
"Come on, the quicker we get on the bus the better." Tonks said, looking nervously around the square. Dad flung his right arm out.
BANG!
I jumped backwards. The three-decker bus had appeared out of thin air and a young, thin, pimply boy that I recognized from the Quidditch World Cup said, "Welcome to the-"
"Yes, yes, we know, thank you." Tonks said. "On, on, get on-" She pushed each of us up the steps- me first.
"'Ere- it's 'Arry-"
"If you shout his name I will curse you into oblivion." Tonks muttered from behind me.
"I've always wanted to go on this thing." Ron said happily. I had to agree. I'd never been on it before.
There was an assortment of mismatched chairs grouped around the windows. Witches and Wizards were getting up off the floor. Apparently the chairs weren't bolted to the ground because some of them were tipped over as well.
"Looks like we'll have to split up." Tonks said. "Fred, George, Ginny, Elizabeth, take those seats in the back. . . Remus can stay with you. . . Harry, Ron, Hermione, you're with me." They went up the stairs as we headed to the back.
I sat down between Fred and Ginny. Fred looked distinctly unhappy and so did George.
"What's up?" I asked Fred.
"Don't even know why we're bothering to go back." Fred mumbled under his breath. "There's nothing left for us considering it's our last year."
"I wouldn't be going back either if it weren't for Quidditch and D.A." I mumbled back. "I already begged Sirius to let me stay and he nearly said yes. But I have an obligation for Quidditch. But if that's taken away from me to, I may just leave."
"George and I are thinking of leaving." Fred confided. "But we want to go out with a bang so we're going to have to plan it perfectly."
"I'll let you know if I see anything." I said honestly and Fred grinned and then he turned to talk to George.
Each time the Knight Bus stopped, it was such a sudden stop that I realized why witches and wizards had been picking themselves up off the floor when we'd first gotten on the bus. The first time, Fred, George, Ginny, and I all flew out of our seats. Ginny hit her head on the chair in front of her and George nearly broke the window. I thought I'd broken my wrist when I landed but I hadn't.
"I never want to ride this ever again." Fred muttered the sixth time that it happened.
Dad somehow hadn't fallen out of his seat once. I was absolutely hating him for it. Especially as he grinned each time we fell out of our seats.
Eventually the bus stopped outside the gate to Hogwarts. "Oh no." I heard George say.
"What?" Ginny and I asked and we both hurried over to the window.
"Oh no." I muttered.
"What?" Dad asked, on his feet.
"Dad, stay inside." I muttered. "There's no reason for you to come out either."
Tonks came down with Harry, Ron, and Hermione. "What's up?" Ron asked.
"She's waiting for us." I hissed.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione's eyes flicked to Dad and then to me. "There's no reason for you guys to help us out." Harry said.
"Nonsense." Dad said in a cold voice, picking up Fred's trunk. "Let's go."
My stomach turned. This was going to be horrible. "Dad really." I said, hurrying after him. Harry had pushed to the front with Tonks. The seven of us followed Dad, making excuses about why he shouldn't come outside with us. Tonks looked slightly nervous too.
But Dad was already exiting off the bus and soon we were all standing there. Dad was shaking hands with everyone, ignoring Professor Umbridge who was standing at the gate, wrapped up in a pink fluffy coat with matching shoes. She was wearing her horrible little smile.
I hated her. I loved her coat though. In maybe a lighter pink colour, almost pastel.
Dad whispered something to Harry and then faced me. Ignoring Professor Umbridge, I hugged him as tightly as possible and then kissed his cheek.
"Hem, hem!" I gritted my teeth, pulling away from dad with one last hug.
"I have a few questions before we all go inside the castle." She said in her sugar sweet voice, her eyes resting on me. "For starters, why you all left early."
"Our dad was in the hospital." Ginny said.
"Dumbledore already told you he gave us permission to visit." I said coldly.
"Yes, but you should've known not to leave considering you still had detentions to do Miss Kane."
"Like I said, Dumbledore gave us permission." I repeated.
"But why'd he give you permission?" She asked.
"None of your business." I snapped.
"Watch your mouth." She said still in her stupid sugar sweet voice, her eyes blazing with triumph.
"It's hard to watch where my eyes can't see." I said. Fred, George, and Ron all burst out laughing.
Her eyes were flaming with anger again. "You just earned yourself two weeks worth of detention Miss Kane and if you don't watch it, your Quidditch Badge is going to go to someone else."
"You should know by now that your stupid detentions don't do anything. And you've tried taking my badge and you can't. You have zero power over me." I said, smiling. I turned back to dad, kissing him again on the cheek. He looked tortured and I whispered, "See? Stop worrying. I bring it all on myself. Love you Dad."
Then I picked up my trunk, tapped it so that it was lightweight and walked past her. The others followed me, leaving her standing there. We looked behind us and saw that Dad, Tonks, and Umbridge were having a kind of standoff and then Umbridge spun on her heel and followed after us.
"KANE!" She shouted after me but I was already far away and pretended not to hear her. I swept up the stairs, into the castle, and away from her. I smiled in satisfaction. I had showed her.

Tracing of sparrow on snow-crested brown
In which I went all the way to Scotland and North Yorkshire, and still found the time to get really excited about The Monster Hunters Halloween special.
It’s been four days, and all the places I’ve seen have already started mingling with one another in my head - but that’s not necessarily a bad thing, I shouldn’t think. At least, when my brain defaults to power-saving mode now, it has its pick of beautiful locations to use as its own internal screensaver picture - doesn’t matter if I don’t always remember which is which.
(It also makes for an interesting game - is this Scotland or Devon, Yorkshire or Colchester? And the answer is, nobody knows, nobody knows.)
Edinburgh
I was in Edinburgh last year for Flying Visit (go figure), but as I didn’t quite get the chance to explore it as much as I wanted, it was nice to be able to go back and wander the place some more. Climbed Arthur’s Seat once again - nearly got blown away by the wind, too - and took the chance to visit Portobello Beach, Dean Village, and Edinburgh Castle.
Inverness, Loch Ness, and the Highlands
I had picked Inverness as my subsequent destination because I wanted to see some of the Highlands, and it definitely didn’t disappoint. Inverness Castle and the Cathedral Church of Saint Andrew are built in beautiful pink stone, and there are a few lovely walks across the Ness Islands - complete with eerie space/alien-themed decorations, as we were getting close to Halloween - the Merkinch Local Natural Reserve, and along the Caledonian Canal. And Inverness Botanic Gardens May be tiny, but they still have a gorgeous tropical house.
As getting about using public transport only seemed a bit of a nightmare, I booked a couple of minibus tours in the area - Eilean Donan Castle and the Isle of Skye for my birthday, and Loch Ness, Urquhart Castle, and the Highlands two days later. And my goodness, I absolutely need to go back to the Scottish Highlands at some point - in that time of the year when it doesn’t get dark at half past four in the afternoon, if at all possible.

York
As you can imagine, I mainly just wanted to retrace the various filming locations from The Atticus McLaren Mysteries: Murder at the Museum, which was shot there last February. (You can watch it here and here, in case you’re interested. Simon Kane is in it, and it stars plenty of talented local actors. Thomas Jennings is absolutely brilliant as the titular character, an autistic museum technician - turned amateur detective - from York.)
I actually managed to complete the York City Walls trail this time around, and without any further damage to my lousy ankles, too. I got to visit York Cold War Bunker, and stumbled upon the slightly incongruous sight that is Holgate Windmill.
As luck would have it, I was also able to see this intriguing staging of Antony and Cleopatra, starring among others Harry Summers (Elizabeth Lockwood) who played as DI Bruce Barnes in The Atticus McLaren Mysteries. And just as I was about to go to bed after the show, I found that The Funeral of Roy Steel had been uploaded to acast - and who am I to delay listening to a new episode of The Monster Hunters?
I distinctly remember very nearly screaming in the dark and scrambling for the light switch, as soon as I heard [SPOILER!] Susy’s voice, which I absolutely wasn’t expecting. Oh. My. Goodness - what an episode.
Scarborough, Staithes, Malton and Goathland
First one who guesses why I went to Scarborough wins nothing at all, in the well-honoured tradition of Yellow Car-adjacent games - and no, it wasn’t parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme. By the way, did you know there’s a series of murals on Bland’s Cliff, including one bearing an uncanny resemblance to a certain Bridget of time-spanning reminiscence?
Scarborough Castle is an interesting place to visit, and it’s lovely to walk along the marina, as well as both the South Bay Beach, and the North Bay Beach. Following the advice of one Matthew Woodcock, I also took a trip to the picturesque seaside village of Staithes, and to the village of Goathland in the North York Moors national park - both absolutely gorgeous, though I daresay nothing could have prepared me for the joys of having to wait for my return bus for nearly two hours in the dark, alone, in a village in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by sheep staring at me from the shadows. (All while listening to The Tomb of Arensnuphis of Infinitely Bad memory, which was even more of An Experience™.)

And yes, obviously the entire reason I was in Scarborough in the first place was John Finnemore’s Flying Visit, again - which I thoroughly enjoyed, never mind that it was my second time this year, fourth if you count last year’s tour as well. (This is totally normal. And healthy. What are you looking at me like that for?)
The cast are an absolute joy to watch on stage, and I absolutely recommend you go to the very last show of the tour on December 1st, at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London, if you ever get the chance. Lawry’s facial expressions are a thing of beauty, and Carrie as Patsy Straightwoman surely deserves to get her own show; and I’m still impressed with how Simon managed not to break character while the audience dissolved into laughter for a full minute - and possibly even longer - as soon as he stepped to the microphone for one of the Missed Connections sketches.
(I am still trying really hard to ignore the notion that John not only appeared to remember that I’d also been to the Colchester show, he also actually called me out on me going to shows on people’s birthdays. Which is - yeah. No. Huh.)
I’ll leave you with two blurry pictures of Scarborough at night, taken after the show, I think. Between the salt water and the sea strands, as Simon and Garfunkel would sing.
