Don't let people tell you that voting doesn't matter
My grandparents came to this country from an authoritarian dictatorship that literally threw out all the votes. And literally falsified the election results. A country where literally no one's vote mattered - and that was during the years you could vote. (You know, all the things people say about the US to try to convince you that your vote doesn't matter.)
It was a country that literally assassinated their political opponents. And literally sent people who spoke out against them to prison for years of hard labor. (You know, the things Trump has openly talked about doing in the US dozens of times.)
My great-grandmother and great-grandfather were both arrested for refusing to join the governing party. They were both imprisoned for years. Their daughter, my grandma, had to live in a boarding house.
My grandpa, her future husband, was imprisoned for two years because of his country of origin.
My great-grandmother forced them to let her out of prison after two years, but only by virtue of being extremely lucky, tough as nails, and willing to potentially die in the process. My great-grandfather was imprisoned at a work camp for seven years, until his legs stopped working from digging holes in the ground in subfreezing water, at which point they threw him in the snow outside the front gates. The only reason he survived was because of the kindness of strangers who drove by.
My great-grandparents lived the rest of their time in that country with surveillance equipment in their home. Hidden microphones and tapped phones, and my great-grandfather's deep-seated fear that his wife's unwillingness to stop talking shit about the ruling party would land them back in prison.
They tried to assassinate my grand-grandfather. They shot at him while he was walking home from the neighbors', and barely missed. They successfully assassinated his cousin, and almost assassinated eight or so other members of his family in the attack.
Voting matters. The right to vote matters. Imperfect elections still matter.
Trump wants to take us to a country like the one my grandparents moved here from. Don't fucking let him.
And don't let anyone persuade you that it's worth the risk to not vote or vote third party.
The country my family is from is now a democracy. Let's keep the US as one too, please.

To any blue voters in a red state/swing state afraid that their vote won't matter:
Back in summer, I spent a week at my grandpa's house, and he always has Fox News on. Every day, I had to listen to bigoted babies complain their asses off over every little thing they don't like and then call anyone that doesn't agree with them sensitive. They insisted that Trump was going to win, and made fun of Kamala any chance they could get. And honestly, I was starting to lose hope.
But once I got home it was like a breath of fresh air. Every other news channel agreed that Trump was crazy and needed to be kept out of office. The thing I've come to realize is, the Trump supporters in these red/swing states are going to suffocate you with the idea that Trump will win.
But in reality? This is no longer just "democrat vs republican", this is a case of good vs. evil. Trump is fucking insane, and luckily, a lot of republicans and past supporters are coming to realize what's actually at stake. I'm willing to bet you have more allies in your state than you feel.
You don't know yet how much of a difference your vote will make. This is one of the most important elections in history, and every vote matters, because any of them could end up tipping the scale in favor of blue.

The Republican counties get counted first. This isn't indicative of the winner.

This is absolutely disgusting.
I know I haven’t posted in a while, but I need to come on here and say this. I’m not trying to get political, I just want to give you the facts.
AI videos of Taylor Swift were shown online showing her endorsing Donald Trump for president. Taylor lashed back, stating that these AI fakes were disgusting and she would be endorsing Kamala Harris. She encourages her fans to vote and make their voice heard.
Donald Trump claims to hate Taylor Swift, but he seems to be rather obsessed with her. He created knock-off eras tour merchandise (now being sold on his website) about himself. Now, Donald Trump News on Twitter/X states that Taylor lost 150 million dollars in merchandise after endorsing Kamala Harris, which is blatantly false. Taylor is a billionaire, this isn’t an issue for her.
The picture they used in this article is the most troubling, as it is a picture of Taylor after performing “Ronan” at Stand Up To Cancer in 2012. Those images are 12 years old.
If you’re not a Swiftie, Ronan is a song about a young boy who passed away from cancer. His mother reposted this Donald Trump Tweet, fighting back.
My main message of this post is to educate yourself! A large part of my audience is minors, which I understand that you’re not able to vote yet. But for those who can, please do. Educate yourself on candidates and chose who helps yourself and America. Don’t let fake news dictate your choices.
Thank you.

Really I think nothing shouts "my first Presidential election as a politically active person was 2016" more than the fact that when I feel hope and excitement for the future (possible President Harris) for more than five minutes I immediately get a crushing, all-consuming anxiety of "feeling this positive emotion now is going to make it so much worse when the worst thing possible happens" to the extent that I'll probably need my break-glass-in-case-of-emergency anxiety medication.

The idea that voting for Harris and Walz means you don’t care about Gaza is such an uneducated position that it can just about only be justified as a psy-op. What exactly is it that you think voting is for? If it’s to show where your idealistic morality lies - what you would really LOVE for America to look like with a president - then of course it makes sense to not want to vote someone who isn’t as critical as you’d like of the Palestinian Genocide. But that’s not the world we live in. As American citizens, we are IMMENSELY privileged, and we cannot possibly understand the horrors and tribulations Palestinians have endured over the last year. The idea that Trump and Harris are “equally bad” for Palestine is a position of immense privilege that doesn’t value Gazan lives. Trump has told Israel to finish the war. Harris is calling for a temporary ceasefire. From a purely logical perspective, one party is promoting a position that could save Palestinian lives while the other is asking for an escalation of events. If you can’t see the difference between these two positions - the real-world, life-altering difference between these two positions for people in a war-zone - then it’s time to ask yourself if you’re morally grandstanding by demanding nothing less than a complete end to the war, or if you’re more concerned in saving even one additional life.
There is no 3rd-party presidential candidate with enough name recognition to make it in this election. If you want a third party, by all means, support them after the election and help them get a foothold. That doesn’t change that they’re not a viable option for 2024. So, do you choose Trump - who wants to escalate the war - or Harris, who wants to help it calm down? These positions are fundamentally different and will lead to changes in the number of Palestinians who survive. Leaving the Palestinian genocide aside, Trump and project 2025 have made it clear how they want to limit abortion access, higher education, transgender rights, gay rights, and DEI efforts while the Harris White House wouldn’t be trying to actively dismantle these things. These are, once again, clear cut issues that will alter how many people survive under each presidency.
If your position is that “unless they give exactly what I want, they don’t deserve to be in office,” then it’s clear you’re not willing or interested in making the actually hard choices in politics and your activism is performative. You aren’t voting for who’s a good person or who you like most - you’re voting for the enemy you want in office. Do the right thing. Vote for Harris and give people a chance to save more lives.
