Now or never 
September 20th, 1781. 
The British had trapped themselves, at Yorktown. General Cornwallis had barricaded himself in a Virginian swamp, the Marquis de Lafayette had explained. What’s more the French fleet was more than happy to aid in the destruction of their mutual enemy, Great Britain. Still more, a double agent, a black man by the name of James Armistead Lafayette was feeding English intelligence false information. It was now or never, now that Cornwallis had sent for reinforcements and a fleet from New York.
 “We must take Cornwallis, lest we lose all morale and the people,” Washington said. Tallmadge merely nodded, silent but never not observant holding his Dragoon helmet close. 
“It is now or never,” Lafayette said.   
These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. - Thomas Paine
The trenches 
October 11th, 1781. 
Several sleepless nights for Major Benjamin Tallmadge as the patriot and allied militias dig trenches surrounding the English enemy. The English put up a fight, of course they do, amidst the darkness sounds of cannons being fired shake the ground and would burst any unaccustomed to war’s eardrums. The smoke from the English muskets fills the air, making it more than a little difficult to breathe, great plumes of white billowing into the air made worse by the southern heat and swampy ground of Virginia and every once in awhile a great booming noise just overhead and something were it less brutal one could half deceive themselves into thinking it a blazing red comet falling to earth. 
By morning the trenches are dug, and remarkably, no American casualties, not yet Tallmadge only prayed for the least amount of life taken, and a steady and swift end to this conflict. There are a few casualties on their allies, the French side, but not enough to be noted in any war as substantive. Morale is still high, they need only push Cornwallis til he breaks. With the right poison, even a snake can take down a lion. 
Firestorm 
October 15th, 1781.
Across the York River, the sound of a French military drum echoed a steady “da-da-da-dum.” English warships held that side of the river, for the moment. Encroaching in the dead of night the navy of French Admiral Comte de Grasse, set about their cause, the one they were all to pleased to do on General Washington’s insistence. 
Raining down cannon fire which soon spread set the vast majority of the English fleet aflame. Tallmadge didn’t see it, not all of it. Truthfully, it was hard to watch, the agony of others, even the enemy, even redcoat lobsters, practically flamed alive. Cornwallis retreated in a small escape vessel but in but a manner of hours, the English fleet at Yorktown and the men who had stood through no fault of their own for their… King and Country were obliterated. 
Tallmadge sucked in his breath nervously as recollections of Sarah Livingston passed briefly before his blue eyes. It was necessary, sure, and he wouldn’t run. But… such ungodly suffering, like flames lapping up from Hell, consuming everything in it’s wake. The cannons, are like a heart beat that rips through you and tears you up. That tears the unlucky limb by limb. Worse than any bullet. 
Some talk of  Alexander and some of Hercules 
Of  Hector and Lysander, and such great names as these.
But of all the world's brave heroes, there's none that can compare.
With a tow, row, row, row, row, row, to the British Grenadiers.
Man or a monster 
October 16th, 1781. 
It had occurred to Benjamin but once before now that he might be wrong, even after all this time, Sarah’s words rang in his ears, ‘I am not ready to die for yours,’ Sarah had said, she had begged his assistance, and he had not returned it, he had killed her. As Comte de Grasse had demolished the English fleet and the man aboard those ships. It must be wrong, surely, or at least, not anything any Good God would approve of, on either side. His name was already tainted, at least to him, it was a wonder anyone could still see Good in him. 
Benjamin, son of the right hand in Hebrew, is the chosen son. Or so one in all their wisdom had explained. 
Wrong, would this be counted against him or for him, on the day he finally passes? As is most certain and unavoidable for all mankind. 
Laying in his cot in his tent Tallmadge managed a prayer. A meek one, but, a prayer nonetheless. Tallmadge would do his duty, finish his task, mount his horse with his spurs and take up his musket and pistols were it so required. But, when this is over and he, at last, can hang up his spurs and his sword– he promises never to lay a hand on a gun or such a fatalistic tool as a sabre ever again. Such destruction and what cost? Surely it is only right for God to play such drawn-out affairs with life and death. 
‘But what if perhaps God doesn’t exist?’ 
But it is surely not Benjamin’s place to question God’s design, faith and friends had kept him alive, however much he wavered and seemed ill at ease. It had been six years fighting George III’s empire, he would surely not break now. Even if it condemned his soul from thereafter.
Even if it made Benjamin no better than the demon or a Lamia the scriptures warn men about.
Redcoats redder 
October 17th, 1781. 
So the bombardment of the English began in earnest at last. Benjamin was aching for a fight and so it seemed were his colleagues Alexander Hamilton and John Laurens. Washington promised them soon enough – they must break the English defensive in its entirety first. 2,500 Patriots and 4,000 French allies… up against 8,000 English troops. But, as fate or God would have it, 8,000 unguarded, ill of malaria and dysentery and trying to hold a strategic position on land any sensible person would say was unholdable. Perhaps it was just Cornwallis’s spite for the Americans, the English always seemed to forget the collective power of her colonies, or perhaps more foolish yet, holding out for reinforcements from New York. What it was, didn’t matter. Not when the clock was ticking and in this rare instance, God seemed to favour the patriot side. They’d take the remaining redoubts by storm it is either that or the noose. Liberty or death. 
Benjamin had thought on the concept of dying now so many times, it seemed, he now had a sort of disconnect from the entire concept. That was until now. Until he could no longer deny its likelihood. Guns and strategic advantages aside, they were still outnumbered and they were still facing the worlds greatest Empire, if one could call it that. Tallmadge much preferred the concept of putting down a hungry beast, like a Mantacore of Greek legend, or… Echidna the mother of monsters from the same. Surely that was the most apt description for the thing they were fighting. Even bloodsucker or a leech was far too kind. So, into the belly of the beast they charge, it is, simply… win or the bayonet end or the noose of the hollow crown. 
Rochambeau 
October 18th, 1781. 
The code word, Alexander Hamilton informed him: Rochambeau. We face them now, staring into the whites of their eyes, so the enemy cannot run. Alexander Hamiton and his Achilles, to his Patroclus to his Achilles, John Laurens would lead infantry. Benjamin would, such as his rank of 2nd continental light dragoon said, was to cut them off as calvary give little room for them to hold ground, or fight back. It would be brutal, Hamilton bluntly said to Tallmadge, but necessary. Tallmadge nodded, despite himself and gave Hamilton a friendly and determined smile, this is what Benjamin’s been fighting for since 1776. He was not about to give these men in red an inch. For Nathan, for how he couldn’t spare Major Andre, or Sarah, to end the conflict Miss Shippen was running from. For Anna Strong’s revenge, for Caleb and the ring, for their America. 
Not charging into the frey not yet. Alexander and Laurens move silently in the dead of night removing the bullets from their guns until absolutely necessary. With the British defences pummelled to the ground, they take the redoubts with comparative ease. Until the English answer with their remaining cannons and the fog and fumes of war. Laurens and Hamilton stay their ground. Try as men might atop his horse, the men in red are easy targets. He cuts them down hacking and slashing with all his rage and all his might, like Achilles at Troy. They attempt to fire upon him and the calvary he is missed. One man’s horse is shot from under him and he hears the screams of an injured or dying animal, still, they keep fighting. Cannon fire shoots back in response, a last-ditch attempt by the English to hold their position. By 4 am it is decided in the end the total casualties amounted to 857, for both sides. But, outgunned, outplayed, exhausted and ill the English now as weary as their patriot enemies surrender.
The world turned upside down 
October 19th, 1781. 
A young redcoat stands atop the defences with a white handkerchief, and a drummer accompanies him. By 10:30 am the English offer sufficient terms of surrender. Humiliated, or ill, Cornwallis neglects to be present. Benjamin cannot help but scoff but he suppresses it if only out of politeness and civility to the now-defeated enemy. 
A line is formed and sure enough, Washington receives the sword of the enemy, a symbol of surrender and a remarkably civil surrender at that. Save for poor Banastre Tarleton, not with his reputation for brutality. However, the English refuse to look at the Patriots, to whom the French and English are subordinate. 
The Marquis de Lafayette merely sighed softly. “Yankee doodle,” he commanded, as the British drummer and fifer played the folk song, ‘The world turned upside down.’ There is a look of disbelief on the faces of the English, but, Tallmadge cannot help but return it with a grin, smug perhaps, but, this is what he had spent six years fighting for! What is more, he had survived.

A Whole New World 2023-2024- Family Safety Strategies

There used to be acceptable norms in our society that have seemed to go by the wayside with the current generation. As parents and grandparents, our job at this point is to keep our families as safe as we can and teach them how to do the same for theirs. I'm not going to make this article a political statement on "the ruination of modern civilization", "the Government's inability to control gun violence", "Middle Eastern conflict", "failures in today's education system", "the psychological issues stemming from single parent households and the absence of the father", or even "the destruction of faith based freedoms and the attempt to take God out of society", etc.... Instead, this is a story about how to keep yourself and your family safe during 2023-2024, while continuing to live a happy and productive lifestyle relatively fear free!
As we learned this past Thanksgiving Holiday weekend, even the most wholesome of family events, a Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony in a heavily protected environment like Public Square in Downtown Cleveland, Ohio is not exempt from the risk of violence and the risk of danger to you and your family. If you would have asked me the question "Do you feel safe taking your family to outdoor Holiday celebrations?", 20-years ago when my children were babies; I would have told you, ABSOLUTELY! It was a different time. Our society was recovering from the terrorist attacks of September 11th, our security forces were properly staffed and supported, the community as a whole looked out for each other, and as human beings we showed a little more love towards one another. But as we get further away from an event that changed our landscape, we get closer to a newer greater set of challenges that can affect our lives profoundly. This is not a time to surrender to what lurks around the corner, but rather become more aware, strategic, and brave in how you continue to live and enjoy your life!

Below, are some simple strategies you can implement to help ensure your preparedness for emergencies/crisis situations while enjoying the Holidays. "Fearless is not the absence of fear. Fearless is living in spite of those things that scare you."- Taylor Swift
When planning to go to an event, have a plan. if you are not familiar with the area open your favorite mapping APP and look at a satellite view of the area. Know the points of entry into the area, exits, public access areas nearby where you can shelter, or even identify friends, co-workers, and relatives that may live nearby who would be willing to offer you a safe rally point should you need it. Also, evaluate the parking situation to determine if there is a spot that seems well lit, secured, and easily accessible to an exit route that you can easily and quickly get to should you need. Many of you right now might be saying to yourself "I'm not a Navy Seal", you're right! You're not, that's why being prepared with easy information for your family is important. Discuss this information with your spouse, significant other, friend attending with you, or oldest child attending (preferably someone over the age of 14), and determine what makes sense for your circumstances. Also, keep in mind (if you have a disabled individual traveling with you), what are the mobility challenges we might encounter? I have a son who is in a motorized wheelchair, when attending events, we have to plan for power issues, geographical issues, parking access, sidewalk or street access, shelter access if needed due to climate weather, and other comfort concerns before heading out. Keep a Go-Bag of essential supplies in your vehicle at all times: bandages, sterilizer, water, snacks and canned pre-cooked food (beans, sardines, spam, cocktail wieners, beef jerky, smokies, etc..), thermal or regular blankets, a mobile charging device/jump starter, pen/paper (to jot down immediately any relevant facts observed/witnessed during a crisis while fresh). The immediate call to action should a situation arise is to get to immediate safety and secondary, is to get to your vehicle to flee to longer term safety (home, hospital, fire station, police station, military base, etc.). If you are able to flee, contact a law enforcement agency immediately to report your location and safety status. Also, make sure that you notify friends or family of your intent to attend and allow them access to your location VIA your cell phone. Almost all major carriers either have software or your manufacturer has the ability to allow/disallow location sharing internally from the device. Should a crisis arise, it is always nice for a concerned individual to see your location should you need them to call authorities.

Keep your group intact and those old enough to understand your plan for the day, KEEP THEM INFORMED! A crisis/emergency is never planned, but you can be. Work with those in your family/friend group who are attending and mature enough to understand inherent risks associated with public gatherings, informed and prepared on your plan.

Make sure that everyone old enough has a specific job (having a job to complete in most, will delay the effect of shock and keep them focused on the task at hand), work together as a team and embrace your personal safety as a group effort. Once you have arrived, look in all directions to size up the crowd, street closures, police/security presence, medical support services and their locations. Also, evaluate any day of changes to your rabbit hole (escape route) preparation pre-event. Local law enforcement most definitely will put up some sort of physical barriers the day of, that you may not have expected in your planning. This is typically done to deter the assumed "Bad Guys" but may as well affect you. Evaluate who is around you in the crowd. If there are people who may take this event as an opportunity to protest or rally for some political cause, move away from them. Look for the higher concentration areas of law enforcement/security presence and get near them, you can make a fairly good bet, that those with nefarious intentions will not culminate around them. Plus, Cops are usually great equalizers to reduce stress and fear with young ones. Don't conduct yourself as being overly zealous or terrified, but rather understand your mental preparations have provided you with a tool to be safe and to enjoy the celebrations.

As a boy growing up in the late sixties and seventies, the as I like to call it "Kid Leash", was probably one of the most popular tools available to moms at the time. You saw them everywhere, the grocery store, the park, the mall, any outdoor experiences, amusement parks, etc..... At some point the predominant opinion of American's became that it felt like people were treating their children like dogs. Child Safety Restraints are a tool, no less important than having your child in a safety seat in the car. It's a cheap and effective tool to keep young ones within reach at all times, while still affording them the ability to walk and experience the world from their viewpoint. Also, should the chaos of a situation arise, its one less hurdle to clear when trying to keep all the members of your party together and safe. Forget what others may think and their opinions with regard to it being cruel to the psyche of the child. Think about it through the prism of what would be worse, in mass chaos or even just a large crowd, my child wonders off and goes through the trauma of being lost from Mommy and Daddy, or worse yet, becomes a tragic statistic of the abduction and human trafficking industry. I don't mean to be condescending, but we need to move past looks and feeling about our family's safety and become tactically effective in keeping our family whole. The days of kids riding their bikes through the neighborhood until the streetlights come on is over, we live in a much different society with different parameters.

I am a true proponent in one's right to protect themself, but as a reasonable and respectful firearms owner, there is a time and a place for everything. Many of these events that we are talking about spend a substantial amount of money on perimeter and crowd enforcement measures. DON'T DO SOMETHING THAT TAKES AWAY RESOURCES FROM PROTECTING THE WHOLE! Expect that your ability to conceal your firearm for your personal protection is directly contradictory to law enforcement's requirement to keep everyone safe. The above tactics in this article are meant to prepare you to react quickly to protect your family and loved ones, without creating an additional threat to yourselves or others, in what could be unrecognizable intent and therefore putting you and others in jeopardy when you pull a weapon and are assumed to be a physical threat to others. When going to large PUBLIC gatherings and events, your best weapon is a well thought out defense and strategy to exit an area quickly and effectively. Remember, what you see as a means to protect you and your family, will undoubtedly hinder and delay the ability to remediate the actual threat!

As someone who spends a tremendous amount of time practicing my marksmanship, active shooter protocols, unarmed self-defense and several other skills, the first piece of an effective active shooter protocol is to: know when to run, know when to hide and know when to fight. But to keep everything real, if it comes down to having to fight, understand that someone in your group will most likely be a casualty. Get those you love and care about moving to a safe location first, then make the much-needed sacrifice to secure them time to escape. Remember in an emergency/crisis situation your safety plan should be to create distance and time from the threat. Communication is key with your group; be precise about what is needed in as few clear words as possible to not create additional confusion.

Please meet your dancer at the end of the parade route by the softball field at the high school. Parents are welcome to join us in the parade.

Butterbraid Fundraiser begins Monday, September 11th.  A separate email will be sent with more info.

Monthly tuition is due the first of every month.  Monthly statements are NOT sent home.  You may pay online, drop in the tuition box by the studio office, or mail it in.  There is a $20 late fee for tuition that is paid after the 11th of the month.  This will be strictly enforced.  There are no refunds for missed classes.  Thank you in advance for paying on time.
Studio policies are listed on our website on the schedule page and are agreed upon during your online registration. 
Costume Payments
1st costume payment will be due October 1st.  The second costume payment will be due November 1st.  No costume refunds after November 10th or once the costume order has been placed.
Missed Classes
Please fill out this form if your dancer will be absent from class. 
Dress Code
The dress code is listed in the brochure and will be enforced by the instructor.  Students learn their best and safest if they are in the correct attire.  Children in combo classes must have both pairs of shoes required.  Students will be asked to observe class if they are not in the proper attire.  No T-shirts allowed.  
Base attire for all classes – leotard and tights, yoga pants and shorts can be worn for tap, jazz and hip hop.
Specific class attire for the following classes:
Ballet I - purple leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers (no ballet skirts)
Ballet II – royal blue leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers (no ballet skirts)
Ballet III – red leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers (ballet skirts optional)
Ballet IV - black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers (ballet skirts optional)

Between Friday September 18th at sundown and Sunday September 20th at sundown in observance of Rosh Hashanah.

10:30 in the morning. September 11th, 2022.
Had a beautiful evening last night. Busy but not chaotic. I sat down here and tried to think of an opening line but then had to reset the mental process a little. Writing what I’m thinking has never been how I do this. I sort of switch off and let my subconscious do the work. Maybe it’s a gift (for lack of a better term) of mine. To switch off and then write without inhibition. I’m not one of those artists—though I’m loath to refer to myself as such—who needs to be fucked up to produce, to paint, to write, etc. Although I’ve always found it a little easier to create to whilst in a bad mood. I recognise the inherent flaw in that though so I try to create while in a positive frame of mind too. It’s dangerous to condition yourself to only create when you’re depressed. Just like how some people condition themselves to only be happy when they’re high. They condition themselves to be anxious, depressed, and miserable whenever they don’t have their substance of choice. Not a judgment, just an observation. I watched first hand as someone I loved would get high and then be torn in this state of anxiety and misery over disappointing their mother. They wanted to smoke but they also didn’t want the overwhelming weight that comes along with respecting someone they love. It’s a struggle, a battle, between want and need, You want to get high but you need to live up to the expectations of a parent. The relationship between the artist and their art is similar. Some simply cannot create without being in an altered state of consciousness. Like that bloke in Heroes that needs to use heroin to paint. I won’t spoil anything but I loved that character’s arc. Also, I’d be remiss not mentioning how criminally underrated Heroes is. Makes me wish the Marvel TV series could match that same level of quality, but I digress. My point is that everyone has some element of themselves they want to burn out like dry ice on an unsightly wart. The way in which we create art is no different. We may be able to appreciate, to some extent, what we produce but if we aren’t in the right mindset to do so, we may as well not’ve created at all. What I aim to do with these pieces is to let go of some of the subconscious baggage I carry. I’m well-adjusted but by no means perfect. Art is therapy for me and circling back around to drugs, in the same way a lot of addicts use drugs to self-medicate, I use the blank canvas and page as a therapeutic tool.

Happy September! While I’m preparing some interesting series for this brand new blog, here I leave you some of my favorite astro observations as my very first astrology post! (these are the opinions/observations I’ve collected during the years I’ve been studying charts, they don’t have to apply to everybody, remember that astrology is more complex than that)

Earth risings will never rush for anything no matter what, specially taurus risings, they have a super chill and slow vibe to them. Earth risings just have that “can’t be bothered” vibe. Wether they ACTUALLY give a fuck or not depends on the moon and mars specially. 🚶🏻‍♂️
Virgo risings have a very “controlled” way of presenting themselves. They will portray a composed look no matter how they actually feel on the inside (they have the BEST poker face). Due to this, they can sometimes have mannerisms or facial expressions that look calculated or practiced. They legit look like this emoji sometimes 🙂
Mercury in the 4th people have a very biased way of thinking. They’re the type of people to not accept any opinions or ideas from somebody they don't like/did them or their loved ones wrong.
On the other hand, Mercury in the 10th are the total opposite. They are very practical thinkers and will take any opportunity to learn anything from anyone for the sake of improvement. They could be the the type of people to learn from their enemies or from the people that are above them just to end up surpassing them after some time.
11th house stellium culture: easily giving in to peer pressure. They tend to do what the majority does and have that “everybody does it so it’s okay” type of mentality specially if it’s paired with air energy
I have noticed that specially in women’s charts, the Venus sign can point to some of the prominent characteristics in their kids (specially daughters). I’ve noticed this is because your Venus sign is likely the values you will directly or indirectly pass on to your kids.
You will feel most instantly upset when people “attack” your rising, because you’ll feel your basic expression hindered. For ex. if you’re a Gemini rising you could be instantly upset when people tell you to shut up, how you feel about that will depend on your moon and how you react or “fight back” will depend on your mars.
Saturn overlays in the 5th house in synastry makes the relationship very stiff and awkward. Even if the rest of the synastry points to a loving relationship, you could find it very hard to have fun together and the house person in particular will see the Saturn person as way too serious or a party popper and the Saturn person may not understand the house person’s sense of humor
Air risings/dominants LOVE avatar games. I guess they like the idea of identifying with a fictional persona or with a conceptual version of themselves. They may like the part of creating their avatar even more than actually playing lol
Speaking of fictional, people with Venus/Moon aspecting Uranus fall for fictional characters. Describe them their perfect person and they already fall in love with the mere description bc they fall for the concept of a certain type of person (specially true if Venus/Moon are in an air sign)
 On the other hand, Venus/Moon aspects to Neptune fall for celebrities or people who are unavailable/unreachable. They take a real person and project their fantasies on that person. It’s almost as if that person is the perfect canvas for them to paint their perfect fantasy romance

16th Year, Spring, 1st Month, wuwu, New Moon [14 February], banqueted the crowd of subjects in the Taihua Hall. When the Emperor first made the kings and dukes rise up, the bell frames then did not play music.
On jiwei [15 February], ancestral sacrifices to Xianzu, August Emperor Xianwen at the Hall of Light, using him to pair with the High Deity. Thereupon ascended the Numinous Terrace [lingtai], so as to observe the clouds' colour. He descended to dwell at the Qingyang Left Side-room, and set out government affairs. On every New Moon, he relied on it as the regular practice.
On yinyou [17 February], first used Taizu to pair at the southern suburbs.
On renxu [18 February], decreed to settle the sequence of the Agents [xing], using Water to inherit Metal.
On jiazi [20 February], decreed to cease with libations for the Founders [or “grandfather”][?].
On yichou [21 February], regulated that the various distant family members who were not sons and grandsons of Taizu, and [those with] a different family name who had been made Kings, all be demoted to become Dukes, the Dukes to become Marquises, the Marquises to become Earls. Counts and Barons were to continue as in the past. All demoted in their titles as Generals.
On wuchen [24 February], the Emperor presided at the Siyi Hall. Recorded the questions to the Flowering and Filial.
On bingzi [3 March], first used the first month of the season to worship at the temple.
2nd Month, wuzi [15 March], the Emperor moved to hold sway at the Yongle [“Forever Happiness”] Palace.
On gengyin [17 March], demolished the Taihua Hall. Arranged and begun on the Taiji [“Grand Eminence”] Hall.
On xinmao [18 March], ceased with cold food banquets.
On renchen [19 March], favoured the Northern Section Bureau, and successively observed the various departments. Toured and scrutinized the Capital District, and listened to and managed grievances and disputes.
On jiawu [21 March], began the morning sun at the eastern suburbs, and thereupon used it as the regular practice.
On dingyou [24 March], decreed sacrifices to Yao of Tang at Pingyang, to Shun of Yu at Guangning, to Yu of Xia and Anyi, and to Wen of Zhou at Luoyang.
On dingwei [3 April], decreed that the posthumous title of Xuanni be the Civil and Sagely [wensheng] Father Ni [nifu]. Announced the posthumous title at Kong's Temple.
[Master Kong, courtesy name Zhongni, had received the posthumous title Xuanni during Western Han.]
3rd Month, dingmao [23 March], toured and scrutinized the Imperial District.
On guiyou [29 April], scrutinized the western suburbs sundry affairs of suburban sacrifices to Heaven.
On yihai [1 May], the Chariot Drove to begin welcome the vapours at the southern suburbs, from then on considered it to be the regular practice.
On xinsi [7 May], used the King of Gaoli, Lian's grandson Yun as the king of his state.
Xiao Ze dispatched envoys to court with tribute.
This Month [13 April – 12 May], the states of Gaoli and Dengzhi both dispatched envoys to court with tribute.
4th Month, dinghai, New Moon [13 May], distributed the new statutes and orders. A great amnesty Under Heaven.
On guisi [19 May], the state of Qinie dispatched envoys to court with tribute.
On jiayin [9 June], favoured the August Lineage School, and personally asked the Broad Scholars on the righteousness of the classics.
5th Month, guiwei [8 July], decreed the Crowd of Subjects at Huangxin Fore-Hall to further settle the arrangements of the statutes, the drifting followers to be limited and regulated. The Emperor personally presided over and determined them.
6th Month, jichou [14 July], the state of Gaoli dispatched envoys to court with tribute.
On jiachen [29 July], a decree said:
To concern oneself with agriculture and put weight on grains is what is first in kingly government. To exhort and take the lead in fields and farmland is a lordly person's regular service. Now the Four Vapours are in felicitous sequence, the season is enriched with torrential and freshness. [We] ought to make use of heaven and divide the earth, and thoroughly put [our] strength into the eastern cultivated lands. However among the people of the Imperial City, those who drift around for food are multitude, they do not put into practice the supervisions and exhortations, sometimes the weed hoe neglects the season. Can dispatched clarifying envoys to examine and investigate [so that who] is industrious or indolent is hence known.
Autumn, 7th Month, gengshen [14 August], the Heir of Tuyuhun, Helutou, came to court.
On renxu [16 August], a decree said:
A King establishes officials and allots responsibilities, [his robes] fall down and he folds [his hands] with his duties completed, he wields the web and lifts the mainstays, the multitude eyes [of the net] are thus managed. Our virtue is beholden to knowing people, how will [We] be able to be reflective and perceptive when the followers turn aside from the righteousness of the lord's appointments and conferrals. From now on, when selecting and recommending, always use the final month [of the season] for the original bureau together the personnel section to weigh and choose.
On jiaxu [28 August], decreed the Combined Outer Staff Cavalier in Regular Attendance Song Bian and the Combined Outer Staff Cavalier Attendant Gentleman Fang Liang as envoys to Xiao Ze.
8th Month, gengyin [13 September], the Chariot Drove to begin the evening moon at the western suburb, and thereupon used it as the regular practice.
On xinmao [14 September], the state of Gaoli dispatched envoys to court with tribute.
On ziwei [18 September], decreed the King of Yangping, Yi, and the Supervisor of the Left, Lu Rui, to supervise 12 generals and 70 000 cavalry, and chastise the Ruanruan.
On bingwu [29 September], the King of Dangchang, Liang Micheng came to court.
The Minister over the Masses, Yu Yuan, yielded his position due to his venerable age.
On jiyou [2 October], used Yu Yuan as Thrice Venerable, You Minggen as Five-times Experienced. Also nurtured the venerable of the state, and the venerable of the myriads. The generals acted out the rite of Great Shooting. It rained, and they did not manage to complete it.
On guichou [6 October], a decree said:
The Ways of the Civil and Martial matters since ancient times have acted together, in the grants of awesome beneficence they surely rely on each other. For that reason the Thrice and the Five-times are the utmost in benevolence, but there still are the affairs of conquests and offensives. Xia and Yin were enlightened and percipient while still not setting aside the acts of troops and armour. As such, if Under Heaven there is only peace, to neglect warfare is perilous. And to not teach the people war can be said to be throwing them away.
Hence Zhou established the office of Marshal, and Han set up the duties of General, both by these means assisted the civil and strengthened the martial, their awesomeness and majesty [dominating] the Four Regions. The house of state, even though venerating the civil so as to holding dear the Nine Harnessed [regions], cultivated the martial so as to soothe the Eight Wildernesses. However in their methods for practising the martial, they were still not thorough.
Now then for instruction in the civil there are standards, [but] the teachings in the martial are faulty. Before generals on horses are shooting, first act to explain the models of the martial. [We] can direct to have the ministers prepare and repair the open spaces and enclosures. Should for the ceremonies with rows and columns, and the numbering of the five military implements, separately wait for later directives.
9th Month, jiayin, New Moon [7 October], greatly put in order the even and odd numbered ancestors. Sacrificed to the the Grand August Empress Dowager Wenming at the Dark Room.
On xinwei [24 October], the Emperor, since it was the Grand August Empress Dowager Wenming' second dreaded day [anniversary of her death], wept at the left side of the mound and renounced meals for two days, weeping without interruption in the sound.
On xinsi [3 November], the King of Wuxing, Yang Jishi came to court.
Winter, 10th Month, yiyou [7 November], the state of Dengzhi dispatched envoys to court to present.
On jihai [21 November], used the Grand Tutor, the King of Anding, Xiu, as Great Marshal; the Specially Advanced Feng Dan as Minister over the Masses.
On jiachen [26 November], decreed to use the merited subjects to pair at banquets at the Grand Temple.
On bingwu [28 November], the state of Gaoli dispatched envoys to court to present.
On gengxu [2 December], the Taiji Hall was completed. A great banquet for the crowd of subjects.
11th Month, yimao [7 December], relied on the ancient Six Rear-chambers, to evaluate and regulate the Three Rooms. Used the Anchang Hall as the Inner Rear-chamber, the Huangxin Fore-Hall as the Middle Rear-chamber, the four below as the Outer Rear-chambers.
12th Month [4 January – 1 February], bestowed on the elderly people of the imperial district dove-shaped canes.
This Month, Xiao Ze dispatched envoys to court with tribute.

I do not boast of preaching the gospel, since it is a duty which has been laid on me; I should be punished if I did not preach it! If I had chosen this work myself, I might have been paid for it, but as I have not, it is a responsibility which has been put into my hands. Do you know what my reward is? It is this: in my preaching, to be able to offer the Good News free, and not insist on the rights which the gospel gives me.
So though I am not a slave of any man I have made myself the slave of everyone so as to win as many as I could. I made myself all things to all men in order to save some at any cost; and I still do this, for the sake of the gospel, to have a share in its blessings.
All the runners at the stadium are trying to win, but only one of them gets the prize. You must run in the same way, meaning to win. All the fighters at the games go into strict training; they do this just to win a wreath that will wither away, but we do it for a wreath that will never wither. That is how I run, intent on winning; that is how I fight, not beating the air. I treat my body hard and make it obey me, for, having been an announcer myself, I should not want to be disqualified.

With Sergi’s wife out of the house and not due to be back for a little while, he’d decided today would be a fine day to head out to the pool and try to teach his little boy how to swim. With neither of them strangers to being in the water together, the initial fear of trying to get him in there was no longer an issue but trying to get him out of the water wings was. 
“You can hold onto this,” Sergi tries again. His feet touch the bottom of the pool but he bends his knees so he can appear to be treading water to try and encourage him in as he makes his way back over. One hand flattens on the side, pressed against the body board while the other circles through the water softly to help keep him afloat. 
The little boy stands and observes the water, the slow rippling of the surface as his dad moves and carefully dips his big toe before pulling a face. 
“Don’t be like that, come on. I’ll hold you.” 
He’s still not convinced though, dipping the very tips of his toes into the water and glancing over. They’re near the shallow, away from the steps to get in but not too far along to truly be too deep. 
“We can have your board in here, or one of the pool noodles? And you’re wearing your water wings. You know you’re safe.”
“But you’re taking them off.”
“Not both of them. And not all at once. I want you comfortable and happy. Hey, look at me,” he instructs, waiting until the little boy before him locks eyes with him, “I won’t let anything happen to you ok?”
“Promise?”

A Terrible, Wonderful Mistake - Part Two
It was September 11th. Tessa had been back at school for a while now, and everything was not as it should be. Even if the curses weren't happening and no one was in danger, she would still be worried.
Her period was three weeks late.
Gracie was the only person she had told about this. She hadn't even told Liz, and Liz was one of her best friends. She certainly hadn't told Barnaby. She didn't want to worry him if it was nothing and her cycle was just being irregular. But what if it wasn't?
Tessa had been telling herself that it would be fine, and that her period would come the next day. The problem was, she had been telling herself that for eight days. The worst part was that she had just thrown up. Luckily, no one had been awake when she did, because someone (Merula) was bound to guess what was happening and make a big deal out of it. That was the last thing Tessa wanted - a spotlight.
Gracie had been telling her to go see Madam Pomfrey to just figure it out already, but Tessa really didn't want to know. It would be worse to know for sure. She knew what the answer would be, anyway. So instead of going to Madam Pomfrey, Tessa just went about her days as if nothing was wrong. She was really freaking out though. What if she was right? What if her very first and only time had led to... a baby? What would Barnaby even think? What would he do? What would she do? Could she get expelled over this? She knew that sex wasn't allowed on school grounds, but she hadn't done it at school. She had done it at home. Oh Merlin, what would her mother think? That was the scariest question of them all.
"Tessa, breathe," Gracie whispered.
Tessa looked to the side and saw Gracie standing over her bed. Apparently, she had been crying loud enough to wake her sister up.
"I'm scared," Tessa whispered.
Gracie sat down on the bed and rubbed Tessa's back. "I know. You really should go see Madam Pomfrey."
"She's just going to tell me what I already know."
"Then why not go see her?"
"Because what if she tells the professors? What if they expel me?"
"They aren't going to expel you," Gracie whispered firmly. "I'd fight them like mad."
"Then you'd get expelled too."
"If they haven't expelled me yet, they aren't going to."
"You did make it longer than Jacob did."
"Exactly. Now get up."
"Why?"
"I'm taking you to see Madam Pomfrey."
"At three o'clock in the morning?!"
"Yes. Come on."
Tessa bit her lip.
"You can get through this," Gracie whispered. "I know you can."
Tessa nodded and forced herself out of bed. She followed Gracie out of the dorm, through the common room, and out to the halls. There wasn't a single sound besides for their footsteps as they walked slowly toward the stairs up from the dungeons.
"Gracie?" Tessa's voice sounded entirely too loud for the silent hallway.
"Yes?"
"What's Mother going to do?"
"I don't know."
They walked the rest of the way without speaking. The walk seemed to take forever, when in reality Slytherin wasn't that far away from the Hospital Wing. Tessa stared at the floor the whole walk. She couldn't bear to look ahead. She'd rather trip than see someone else watching her hold her stomach in fear. Of course, there was no one else in the halls, but still, she looked down. As they approached the door, Tessa bit her lip.
"What if she's mad we wake her up?"
"You're stalling," Gracie observed. "Why don't you want to know?"
"I don't know," Tessa groaned. "I already know, but I'm terrified to know."
Gracie stepped closer. "Madam Pomfrey has taught me a lot of spells. I bet I get get her to teach me the spell to check, if you'd rather not tell an adult until you're certain."
Tessa sighed. "No, no, I'll do it. Just stick with me, okay?"
"Of course."
Gracie knocked loudly on the door to the Hospital Wing. Within seconds, Madam Pomfrey opened it, still in her night clothes.
"What's the matter?" she asked. "Neither of you look hurt."
"I just threw up, Madam Pomfrey," Tessa said.
"And?"
"And... my period is three weeks late."
Madam Pomfrey nodded. "You had a fun birthday, I take it?"
"You know my birthday?" Tessa asked.
"I do. I go over student records every once in a while to make sure I am updated on their well being. I often read through your sister's to make sure her curse hasn't shown any new symptoms. But it isn't Gracie we're here to discuss. Come in, the both of you."
Tessa let Gracie go first. She stuck right behind her until Madam Pomfrey gestured to one of the beds. Tessa timidly climbed onto it and tried to relax.
"This will tingle," Madam Pomfrey warned. "Try to remain still."
Tessa took a deep breath. "Okay."
Madam Pomfrey said a spell and waved her wand slowly over Tessa's stomach. It did tingle, very badly in fact, but Tessa did her best to stay still. It was over before she knew it, and Madam Pomfrey's wand lit up blue.
"What does blue mean?" Gracie asked.
"It means," Madam Pomfrey said, "that we have a situation on our hands. Tessa, you have a little boy growing inside of you."
Tessa remembered herself shrieking, and then there was blackness. The next thing she remembered, Barnaby was gripping her hand and begging her to wake up.
"I'm awake," Tessa groaned. She sat up in the bed and looked over at Gracie, who was standing opposite Barnaby. "I didn't dream it, did I?"
"No," Gracie said. "Sorry."
"It's okay, I guess. Did you tell him?"
"No, I didn't tell him. I just got him here. I thought you should be the one to tell him."
Tessa turned to Barnaby, who was looking at her nervously.
"Tell me what?"
"I... uh..." Tessa pressed her lips together and her eyes found Madam Pomfrey, who nodded at her sympathetically, but sternly.
"Barnaby, remember what we did on my birthday?"
"We hung out at your place and then had - a sleepover," he finished awkwardly.
"Yes, the sleepover," Tessa said. "Well, um, something may have happened that night that I wasn't exactly prepared for."
"What do you mean?" Barnaby asked.
"Our son may be growing inside of me right now," Tessa said, wincing.
Barnaby dropped her hand in shock.
"You - You're -"
"Yes."
Barnaby looked towards Madam Pomfrey. "Are you sure?"
"Yes, Mister Lee, I am sure."
Barnaby turned back to Tessa. "What do we do?"
"That is up to the both of you," Madam Pomfrey said, walking over to join the group. "There is a spell that will vanish the fetus from her body. Or, you can choose to keep it, and bear the consequence of your actions. If you do choose to remove it, this will stay between us. No one else will ever know."
Tessa looked to Barnaby. "What do you want?"
"It's your body," Barnaby said. "If you don't want to go through with this, I won't make you."
Tessa gulped and looked down. Could she do it? Could she vanish her son into nonexistence? Maybe if it was someone else's, but not Barnaby's. She wanted to be with him forever. She couldn't imagine getting rid of someone that they made together.
"Can... would you be okay if I kept it?"
Barnaby smiled at her. "Of course. I'd be happy to raise him with you."
"What will happen to me about school?" Tessa asked Madam Pomfrey.
"Well, I can tell you that in many cases, the students have dropped out. However, there were a rare few that decided to keep up their studies, and all of them have been accommodated in the past."
Tessa looked to Gracie.
"I'll be there for you no matter what," Gracie said. "It's up to you."
"I want to keep it," Tessa said.
"Very well. Now, we need to inform the professors."
Tessa stood up off of the bed and took Barnaby's hand. "Who first?"
"It is up to you. I would suggest Professor Dumbledore."
"Okay," Tessa said. She stood up and grabbed Barnaby's hand. "Gracie, come with us."
"Of course."
Gracie took Tessa's other hand and gripped it tight.
"This is all going to work out," Gracie said.
"I hope you're right," Tessa said. She wasn't sure this was going to end well.

20th July 2006 / It’s already been 3 years since his grandmother’s passing. He wakes up past 9:00 AM for the first time in 16 years to find his grandfather still in bed, smiling. At peace in death, just as in life. The funeral that’s held is a small one, and he sees his parents for the first time in 3 years. He pays them no heed, quiet throughout the ceremony. Stays long after everyone else has left, crying over the grave of the only father he’s ever really known. Luckily, his parents give him the space he needs. Haven’t they always.
21st July 2006 - 15th August 2008 / he moves in with his parents the day after the funeral and spends most of the day actively avoiding the confines of his newfound home. No one but the help is ever there to begin with, and it doesn’t help that whenever his old man does manage to scrape together an hour or two to spend with his son, it’s accompanied with the suffocating weight of awkward parental guilt – a constant cycle of trying too hard and overstepping boundaries with a son he does not know.
So he spends his days preoccupied with school, with extra-curriculars, with psychedelics in the back of a senior’s car.
Private school’s always had its perks, after all. Money, has, too.
16th August 2008 / He graduates from high school, and so does his budding addiction. A 5.0 GPA and an impressive list of extra-curricular achievements see him admitted to Harvard’s class of 2008, and as per Harvard culture, he grows to spend his Sundays getting blackout drunk and his Mondays studying Math 55A: honors abstract algebra.
It’s in January of his freshman year that he’s first introduced to cocaine, and it’s easy enough to think you’re invincible when you’re 19 years old. Crack addiction isn’t a possibility for you. You’re too good for that. Don’t be a fucking pussy, a line never hurt anyone. A line never killed anyone.

A 200 word paragraph isn’t enough to portray what addiction is like. He tried to stop, really, he did. But that’s never really enough, is it?
11th december 2010 - 13th August 2011 / Rehab. Then, rehab again. Followed by rehab for a third and final time. He still has a scar on the side of his throat from his second failed attempt. It’s already been months since he’s stopped picking up his father’s calls; weeks since his father’s stopped calling altogether.
15th September 2011 - 26th August 2013 / The last two years of his undergraduate education go by in a blur. It’s busy, hectic. Sobering. He graduates top of his class.
27th August 2013 / It takes him 17 hours to get from Boston to Seoul. He signs up for the PT program at the National Intelligence Service the following day.
He doesn’t really know why he did it. Came back here, of all places.
Perhaps it’s just in his blood.

According to his performance, Daeil is able to express both abstract and concrete ideas clearly and concisely, in simple terms, despite having an extensive vocabulary.
Non-verbal abilities: Perceptual reasoning measures Daeil’s ability to reason using visual cues from the environment; to examine, think about, and solve novel tasks without using words. Daeil’s perceptual reasoning fell in the high range and ranked in the 94th percentile.
Working memory: Daeil’s working memory involves the ability to attend to verbally presented information, hold information in his immediate awareness, and then be able to use that information within a small period of time. Daeil’s working memory fell in the high average range, and ranked in the 85th percentile. His highest scoring task required him to mentally compute math problems within a time limit. His second highest score involved tasks asking him to repeat a 15-digit number verbatim, as state or in reverse order. As expected, the longer the time duration allotted for memorization, the likelier it is that Daeil maintains the subject matter in his long-term memory.
Processing Speed: Processing speed involves the ability to scan, discriminate and process visual information to complete a task. Daeil’s processing speed falls in the high range as well, ranked in the 99th percentile, and is considered a personal strength. His performance suggests that Daeil does not have trouble with concentration, attention or short-term memory nor does he struggle with visual-motor coordination or discrimination.
Social Emotional:
Externalizing problems; hyperactivity, aggression, conduct problems: Daeil’s tendency towards experiencing overall externalizing problems fell in the low range, ranking in the 13th percentile. Daeil scored lowest on measures for hyperactivity. Measures for aggression were consistent and did not indicate a predisposition towards violent behavior. The issue of conduct problems also does not appear to be a noteworthy cause of concern, although some test results indicate that he has a predisposition towards unpredictability.
Internalizing problems; anxiety, depression, somatization, rejection: Daeil’s tendency towards experiencing overall internalizing problems fell in the low range as well, ranking in the 12th percentile. No particular inclination towards anxiety, depression, somatization were noted. Daeil’s results did not indicate a particular fear of rejection either.
Overall problems/maladaptive behavior or emotional disabilities: Daeil appears to have a low level of problem behavior according to the assessments performed. Overall problem behavior combines Daeil’s performance on measures of hyperactivity, aggression, depression, atypicality, and withdrawal. This assessment is supported by another in which Daeil demonstrates low internalizing and externalizing maladaptive behaviors as compared to fellow trainees. Asessments did not indicate maladaptive behavioral tendencies, disturbances in functioning, or pathology. These scores imply that his behavior will not affect his functioning at NIS or negatively impact mission performance. In addition, Daeil does not indicate an emotional disability based on the conducted assessment. With regards to indications of emotional disability, Daeil ranked in the 15th percent when compared to other adults his age. Further evaluation for emotional disabilities was not indicated. This suggests that Daeil’s emotional condition is normal and is not a concern in regards to performance. Adaptive Skills: Daeil’s adaptive skills fall in the high range, ranking in the 90th percentile. These skills include adaptability (ability to readily adapt to environmental changes), social skills, leadership, activities of daily living, and functional communication. Daeil exhibits high coping skills, but indicates a lack of sensitivity, even though empathy levels are considered normal. SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS: Daeil demonstrates exceptional cognitive abilities and adaptability, as well as a talent for operating under large amounts of stress. His test results indicate a high level of mental and emotional stability, and is considered low-risk; however, his performance does indicate a possibility of developing obsessive tendencies, but test results show inconsistent and conflicting results. A second opinion from a psychologist specializing in personality disorders is recommended. CONCLUSION: Nam Daeil, trainee number 14056, is deemed fit for active duty.

Please meet your dancer at the end of the parade route by the softball field at the high school. Parents are welcome to join us in the parade.

Butterbraid Fundraiser begins Monday, September 11th.  A separate email will be sent with more info.
The BAND app will be your go to for all studio info.  An invite to your dancers class BAND will be sent to all account holders.  Monthly emails and bulletin board posts will also be a great source of information for all studio happenings.  NSD staff is always here to help, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns please don’t hesitate to let us know.

Monthly Tuition and Late Fees – NEW UPDATES
Monthly tuition is due the first of every month.  Monthly statements are NOT sent home.  You may pay online, drop in the tuition box by the studio office, or mail it in.  There is a $20 late fee for tuition that is paid after the 11th of the month.  This will be strictly enforced.  There are no refunds for missed classes.  Thank you in advance for paying on time.
Studio policies are listed on our website on the schedule page and are agreed upon during your online registration.

1st costume payment will be due October 1st.  The second costume payment will be due November 1st.  No costume refunds after November 10th or once the costume order has been placed.

Please fill out this form if your dancer will be absent from class. 
Dress Code
The dress code is listed in the brochure and will be enforced by the instructor.  Students learn their best and safest if they are in the correct attire.  Children in combo classes must have both pairs of shoes required.  Students will be asked to observe class if they are not in the proper attire.  No T-shirts allowed.  
Base attire for all classes – leotard and tights, yoga pants and shorts can be worn for tap, jazz and hip hop.

Ballet I - purple leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers (no ballet skirts)
Ballet II – royal blue leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers (no ballet skirts)
