GLTAS' Extended Role in C.O.I.E Chapter 9
Carol Ferris, determined to find out more about her variants, sneaks across the hall toward the Anti-Monitor's database.
She reaches the door only to find it locked. Luckily, she uses something to pry open the door and creep slowly inside.
Upon entering the room, Carol finds a plethora of monitors. Each linked to a different reality.
"Okay. How am I going to do this?" Carol thinks to herself.
"I know; I'll just do what I normally do at work whenever I'm not busy: google my name. So, she types her name into the database and clicks enter.
A list of results pop up and she scrolls down to read them. Each list her similar history including: birthdays, company info, relationship status, etc.
But to her horror, she pulls up news articles involving her as a villainess. Her eyes grow wider the more she reads.
"No...no no! This can't be happening!" Carol says to herself, feeling her heartrate spike with stress.
She frantically types her name again and hits Refresh, hoping to get better results. But to no avail; they appear the same.
Carol then decides to type in Hal's name, hoping he'd bare different results as well.
For the most part, they do. Then she notices a file from their reality labeled: Encounter with Atrocitus.
Carol faintly remembers the Red Lantern founder from her trial by fire on Zamaron. So she clicks on it and sees a video of Hal defending the Guardians of Oa from Atrocitus' onslaught.
It starts out pretty tame until Atrocitus starts laying into Hal, brutally beating him within an inch of his life.
Carol is horrified by this. So much so that she curls up in her chair, shielding her eyes from the impending horror befalling her true love. The sound of Atrocitus' fists hitting flesh echoes through her mind as tears begin streaming down her face
She peers out through her hand to see Hal deliver the ultimate blow to Atrocitus, knocking him out and saving the day.
Carol sighs in relief, knowing that Hal would pull through one way or another. So she decides to lookup her and Hal, hoping to reflect on more positive times.
She accidentally clicks on a file labeled: Justice League Doom and to her dismay, she sees herself fighting Hal; nearly manipulating him into relinquishing his power ring.
"What are you? Afraid? Afraid that you don't deserve to have such power? Then I hope you have the decency to do what's right."
Upon hearing this, Carol decides she's had enough and slips on her Star Sapphire ring.
She storms out of the database and requests transportation to Justice League Doom's earth immediately.
Upon arriving, she confronts her malevolent doppelg盲nger in a one-on-one confrontation.
That world's Hal looks on in bewilderment. "I must've been hit harder than I thought. I'm seeing double."
"Who are you?" The villainess demands. "I'm you from another earth and honey, you've got a lot to learn about love." Carol scolds as she blasts her counterpart with an energy blast.
Carol then continues to lay into her counterpart about their shared heartbreak.
"Hal has saved this planet countless times and this how you repay him?" "He broke our heart so he..." "No, we broke our own heart. We're just taking it out on him." Carol explains.
"And I suppose you treated him any better?!" Her doppelg盲nger counters.
"Well I told him about my company's dating policy and while he did respect that, Hal never stopped caring about me."
"Must a real romantic if he left you high and dry." Her counterpart mocks as she continues attacking her.
"It's not like that. Hal was so busy protecting the planet that he never came back for me. So as a result, I had to..." Carol then stops mid-sentence and remembers what she did to Hal back on her earth.
"Fire him." She reflects slowly, "And if that wasn't enough, I broke up with him." Carol then comes to the realization of what an ungrateful fool she had been.
"So listen up sister." Carol says to her doppelg盲nger, "Hal may drive me nuts, but I still love him. Which more than I can say for you!" Upon saying that, she delivers a brutal blow, knocking her out cold.
After removing/destroying her crystalic power source with the heel of her boot, Carol blows a kiss to that world's Hal Jordan before returning to Satellite; leaving him with a very confused look on his face.

STARSTRUCK
Hal Jordan x Child! Reader x Carol Ferris (PLATONIC)
Hal meets his child.
WARNING(S): Explicit language, carol and hal argue kinda toxicly, hal is accidentally a deadbeat dad
A/N: No use of Y/N; Reader is called "Comet," and is stated to look similar to Hal.
Carol hadn't been answering his calls. Sure, they weren't on the best terms, and Carol certainly didn't owe him an answer, but she was never one to ignore his calls. If she was pissed at him, she'd usually tell him, whether in person or through text, that she didn't want to talk, and he would respect that and leave her alone. But Carol apparently hadn't seen any of his texts or missed calls, and he could admit he was a little worried.
He knew Carol could take care of herself, and their relationship had long since ended, but he still cared about her enough to notice the odd behavior. Maybe he was overreacting, or maybe Carol was in real danger, and he was sitting on his ass in his shitty apartment doing nothing about it.
He stared at his phone, pondering his options. The sanest choice would be to wait until the next day and meet her at work, then he could panic if she didn't show up... But what if she was hurt? What if she needed him and he wasn't there?
"Damn it," he muttered, powering on his ring and soaring out the door.
The trip to her house was a short one, Green Lanterns were able to cross space in record time; flying across Coast City was no problem. He landed on her doorstep, rapping his knuckles on the door a couple times. He waited a few moments, his hand reaching up to bang on the door again before it swung open. A young kid, no older than ten, stood in the doorway, a grumpy expression on their face.
Hal was taken aback by their appearance. It was like looking into a mirror, well, a mirror that de-aged you by a few decades, but a mirror nonetheless.
He was startled out of his stupor by the little one speaking up. "Are ya gonna say anything, or are ya just gonna stand there and gawk, Mr. Lantern?"
"Uh, is Carol here?" He forced out, his eyes wide.
Their glare turned accusatory as they pushed their hair out of their face with the back of their hand. "Why'd'ya wanna know?"
"She hasn't answered my calls," he spoke. He figured there was no point hiding the truth from his mini-me if he wanted an answer out of them. "I just wanted to check in on her."
"She's sick," the kid stated. "Why'd you care, Mr. Lantern?"
Right, he was still in costume, shit.
"I saved her a few years back and I still check on her from time to time. She usually texts me back, but she didn't this time."
"Uh-huh," they nodded, clearly not believing him. "Look, Mama said not to talk to strangers, bye."
They tried to close the door but were stopped by Hal's foot.
"Kid, I just wanna know if she's okay," he sighed, holding the door so they couldn't slam it in his face. "Can I, at least, talk to her?"
They crossed their arms, looking peeved as they snarked, "I dunno, can you?"
Their argument was interrupted by a familiar voice shouting from the other room, "Comet, I thought I told you not to open the door for strangers!"
Carol rounded the corner, looking like death. She marched up to the kid (Comet?), ignoring him as she placed her hands on her hips. Comet looked sheepish, rubbing their arm as they gestured to Hal.
"It's not a stranger, it's Green Lantern."
Hal almost snarked that Comet had just called him a stranger, but the quip died in his throat as Carol rounded on him. He instinctively rubbed the back of his neck as he withered under her gaze.
"Sweetheart, can you go to your room? I need to talk about grown-up stuff with Green Lantern."
The kid looked curious but wisely kept their mouth shut and slunk off to their room, sending a glare over their shoulder at Hal. Once their bedroom door was shut, Carol pushed Hal out of the way as she stepped outside, slamming the door behind her.
"What are you doing here?" She hissed, her eyes narrowed like a cat's.
He took in her pale complexion and the way her hands trembled a bit. Getting on Carol's bad side when she was healthy was bad enough, when she was grumpy and sick, however, was a whole other ballpark.
"You weren't answering my calls," he started, trying to keep his voice even as his temper began to bubble over. "I thought something happened to you."
"Well, thanks for your concern, Jordan, but I'm fine. Is that all?"
"No, it's not!" He exclaimed, his arms leaving his side to gesture behind Carol.
Said woman quirked a brow as if to ask him what he meant.
"That kid in there... Comet. Are they-"
"Yours? Yeah," Carol confirmed, crossing her arms. "Why?"
"Why?!" Hal shouted in disbelief. "Are you serious? Why didn't you tell me?"
"Because you were dead." Carol snapped. "And then you were the Spectre, and by the time you were back, I figured I could raise them on my own."
"Carol, what the fuck?! I know we aren't on the best terms, but keeping my own kid away from me? That's low."
"I already told you why-"
"Because I was dead, yeah, but I've been back for fucking months! You've had plenty of time to tell me!"
"I didn't want to tell you!"
"Why?!"
"Because I didn't want you to hurt them!"
The statement hung in the air like smoke after a wildfire. Which was fitting, considering how hard it felt to breathe.
"Carol, I would never hurt my- ...our kid." He choked out.
"You said the same thing about me."
That seemed to reignite his temper, his brows furrowing. "So, what, you lied to me because you were afraid of something I might do?!"
"Yes, I did, because I couldn't take that fucking chance!" Carol growled. "You'd understand if you were a parent-"
"Don't fucking pull that bullshit on me, Carol. I might not have been able to raise them, but I know what it's like to take care of a kid."
"Do you? Do you, really, Jordan? You may have taken Roy and Helen in, but the first chance you got, you pawned them off to someone else! You might enjoy feeling responsible for them for a few weeks, hell, maybe even a few months, but, soon, you're going to get tired of the routine, and you're gonna leave me to pick up the pieces, again!"
He looked at Carol in disbelief. He opened his mouth to argue more but stopped as something behind Carol caught his eye. Two wide eyes stared at the bickering couple from the window.
Hal cursed, seizing Carol's attention, both of them realizing the mistake they just made. Hal stood awkwardly as Carol stepped inside, closing the door behind her. He stayed there for a few minutes, wondering if he should just leave before banishing that thought. He had already missed out on, what, ten years of this kid's life? There was no way in hell he was leaving them now. Even if he had to fight Carol to stay.
Just as he began to think he might have to bust through the door to see his kid, it opened again. Carol somehow looked even more haggard than before, her eyes red and puffy.
"They want to talk to you."
Now, that surprised him. He assumed they would want nothing to do with him considering, though accidental, he was a deadbeat they didn't even know.
Carol stepped aside, jerking her head toward the kid's room. He nodded wordlessly, deciding to power down his ring to greet them properly. He shoved his hands in the pockets of his bomber jacket, cautiously approaching the kid. They were sat on their bed, staring at their bare feet. They didn't acknowledge him sitting next to them, only bringing their knees up to their chest.
"I know this must be weird," he started, keeping his voice low and friendly. "Green Lantern shows up asking for your mom and turns out, hey, he's your dad! That must be pretty jarring."
It was silent for a few moments before they spoke up, their tone completely different from before.
"Mama said you didn't know 'bout me."
He waited for them to continue. When they didn't, he affirmed, "I didn't."
"She said you were in space doin' Lantern stuff, so she couldn't tell you, but you can't've stayed in space for nine years... There's no food up there."
He chuckled, shaking his head. "No, I wasn't in space for nine years. I had some adult stuff I had to deal with, but I've been back on Earth for a while now."
"Why didn't Mama tell you 'bout me, then?"
Hal took in a deep breath. "Your mother and I haven't had the best relationship. She was worried about... me not being a good dad to you."
"Do you have other kids?"
Hal shook his head.
"Then how would she know that you'd be a bad dad?"
"She... wasn't sure if I wanted to be a dad, and since she wanted to protect you, she kept you a secret."
They seemed to mull it over, letting out a sigh that made them sound older than they were and leaning back on the bed, staring at the ceiling.
"Ya know, there's these kids at school who always make fun of me for not having a dad. I can't wait to see the looks on their faces when I tell them that my dad's Green Lantern."
He laughed at that, nudging them with his knee. "I don't think Spooky would be too fond of that idea."
"Spooky?" They questioned, continuing before he could clarify. "Why'd'ya care about what Batman thinks?"
"I don't!"
"...So, does that mean I can tell them?"
"It's called a secret identity for a reason, kiddo."
"Lame." They stuck their tongue out at him. He returned the favor, making them giggle. "Okay, no sayin' you're GL, but can you walk me to school tomorrow? They're not gonna believe me unless you're there."
He almost agreed, then remembered that he might be overstepping Carol's boundaries.
"You're gonna have to ask your mom, kiddo."
They sent him a cheeky smile that he could tell only promised trouble. "Oh, don't worry; she's not gonna say no."
