The impending proposal of a sinner
✍️ note: planning to make a short one shot ending up longer than what i plan. trying to tie the difference period of time in one story is quite challenging to be honest. I hope it's fine. Thank you for reading.
Tokyo city, September 2019.
A yellowish letters in his desk confusing him. To be honest it's scared him.
"Nice to meet you, Mr Iguro. The food were delicious and everything was nice.
However, there's something bothering you aren't it? There's a hole in there that weren't fulfill."
His eyebrows raising.
"Go to Hachijo Island, there's a small town there. Perhaps you will understand why"
Iguro folded the note carefully. It was leave behind by one of the customer he served. The restaurant closed early at 10. The moon looks brighter that night, Iguro watching a group of young people chatting excitedly, looking drunk.
There's something missing? He wonder, so far his life was so peaceful, nothing bugging him, just an ordinary man trying to survive, oh, he got a kind beautiful girlfriend too....but yeah, everytime his mind drifting away like this, he was unaware why his mind always lead him to something bloody, a tragedy, reddish colour and tears. There's a thing he feel unfinished.
.....
Hachijo Island, Taisho era late 1920s.
"Iguro sama, we are the kakushi of demon slayer corps. We are sorry to inform you, that your cousin, iguro Obanai sama has peacefully passed away, contributing greatly for the banishment of Muzan"
"here's some of his belongings that we thought should be return to his home" the kakushi bringing two box, containing his clothes, letters and some stuff.
The young woman just staring, refusing to let them in.
"I don't care, go back" she want to close the door, when the kakushi refused stubbornly.
"If you have a bit of heart. Please let him rest in peace"
The woman want to yell when her husband from the back told her to stop her fit.
"I'm sorry for my wife's rudeness, thank you. You may give it to our maid."
The kakushi thanks him and the boxes were leave behind. Among them, a sincere letter to Kanroji was there, an unfinished promise that he never send.
.....
Hachijo Island, November 2019.
The early autumn wind touching his face. Suddenly he was there, standing in the middle of a small town, lived with various kind of people. It was getting dark when he arrived. The autumn rain and cloudy weather make it surrounding look so sorrowful for him.
"do you know, in edo era, this island is a banishment place for thieves? Damn the island looked peaceful for a punishment place"
"there's a lot of legend that i heard about this island you know, there's a whole story about a rampage of a snake demon in Taisho era. My grandparents always told us that. He said the demon killed nearly 60 people"
The stranger conversation that he heard in a boat playing clearly in his mind. It was feel so familiar to him.
He stopped in front of a traditional style abandoned mansion when his head suddenly feel hurt. The place was huge, and he wonder why it was being left behind.
"young man, are you okay?" An old man with an umbrella, wearing a ful size cloth and hat closely watch over him who carefully sit in the old bench right beside the mansion's entrance.
"ah, I'm fine i just a bit dizzy maybe because of seasickness."
"oh you are from mainland? Nice to meet you, I'm Yamaguchi " the old man smiled, sitting beside him.
"I'm iguro, yes I'm from Tokyo city"
"you must have an important thing to do here, didn't you?
"well...you can say that" he look around and his heart still attached to the mysterious abandoned mansion behind him.
"... Yamaguchi san, may I know when was this mansion were abandoned?"
The old man smile, pulling a bunch of keys in his hand.
"coincidentally i was the current guardian of this mansion. I can show you. It has been long abandoned. I think after the world war 2 broke, there's no one want to live in here anymore"
Iguro getting much invested on the story. His eyes shined.
....
"the rightful owner of the mansion is a woman who inherited a whole lot of it as she was the sole survivor of her family's slaughter..."
"slau... slaughter..?" His eyes grow bigger.
"...yes, her whole family was died except her in a rampage. Some said it was a demon, but maybe it just an exeragation for thieves. Well you know, the story about this place didn't you? A thieves village?"
"snake.... demon" he murmured.
"I'll show you the interior, if you want to buy. It was up for selling. Let's go"
....
The interior of the mansion were make it clear it was abandoned, the furniture are still there untouched, completely freezing in time. There's spider web everywhere.
"She didn't have inheritors? I feel like it impossible for her descendants to let this place rotting away" iguro carefully walking. The more he went inside, the more he feel his chest pounding.
"Of course she had. At one point."
"..."
"My grandparents said, she was having a traumatic episode, not long before the first war broke, she gone mad and killed her husband and 2 of her children. One of them survive however, remained unmarried until he died of sickness at the end of world war 2 "
"... it's miracle that this building survived both war" Iguro didn't really pay attention, slowly when he walk into a long hallway, in the end of it, he saw a middle sized room that looked like a prison. The pain in his head come again.
"aww!!" Yamaguchi suddenly concern and told him to rest but he insisted.
"...why there's a freaking prison in this house?"
"I'm not really sure about it to be honest. There's various story about it, some of it said that it was a place where they caged their child with mental illness before the rampage. I'm not really sure."
Iguro walked inside it. The pungent smell of dirty air with hint of blood is nauseating. His head went spinning but he try to stay still.
"aaaaaa motherrr!!!! Where are we going"
"My son, you need to stay still, we'll meet her highness princess"
A sudden bit of memory (?) Strange yet familiar strucked him. In the end of the room, there's boxes leaved untouched. Without Yamaguchi permission, he walk fast towards it.
There's two box. A big one and a middled sized box. Yamaguchi just standing there watching him.
"Yamaguchi san, can i check this stuff?"
"well, there's no other people want it, it's an old belongings nothing special. Yes, you may"
......
In the hotel, he walked towards the desk, with a small box containing letters and a much smaller box wrapped in clothes. After getting permission from Yamaguchi san, he insisted to bring the two.
Back then in the mansion, when he checking it, the big box were only contain of various kind of old Taisho's style of clothing, surprisingly enough all of them looked like his size.
Iguro carefully open the little box. An adorable pair of sakura hairpins, and a note were there. His heart beating fast. Whatever he did, he didn't really sure why, the attraction of the box, as if it was belonging to him.
.....
He was in front of the mansion again. Yamaguchi weren't there. His eyes were swollen, he was never cry a lot before. Yet today.
It was not locked. Weird but still he carefully enter the house.
'i...i know this place....a long time ago"
Sitting inside the cage, he looked around, a number of the wooden cage bars were missing.
"you....how much did you suffer that time?" Iguro spend hour in the house before he went to the nearest port, buying a ticket back to Tokyo. The sun almost set. The cloudy weather making that evening getting darker more than usual.
While waiting, two women were chatting.
"look like the government will abolished the old mansion there. No one want them anymore. Creepy as hell" he was intrigued.
"I'm sorry for interrupting but aren't the mansion is for sale?" The two women looking at each other before one of them answer.
"Eh? No it's not for sale anymore, i think after the war, though there's an auction no one buying. Over time it was left abandoned and the government take over it."
"....i thought it is. Yamaguchi san the guardian said it to me?" Iguro was surprised.
"What guardian? It's never has any specific guardian named Yamaguchi. You probably mistaken." The women excused themselves leaving behind him in confusion.
The boat arrive minutes after. In the boat, he was suddenly being approached by an old man.
"Yamaguchi san?? But"
" iguro san, take this." The old man just smile, he give him what appear to be a bit mid sized of a snake statue. A white snake.
"eh?" When Iguro looking at the snake, suddenly he feel like his heart was tearing apart. The old man was suddenly vanished. Not a goodbye even.
.....
The little snake statue and the box. He staring it for a while. Taking his deep breath, Iguro has decided to do it. It's been a while and he was planning it for a long time. He didn't had courage but the truth is he has made the promise a long time ago.
.....
Early Fall, Taisho era late 1920.
"Kaburamaru, come here" he put his sword in it's place, calling his companion who lying around after finishing it's food.
With the little snake in his laps, he started to prepare his ink, writing in his paper, his final will. Alongside, theres a little box containing a pair of sakura hairpin. A note he wrote is still there, untouched.
"Kaburamaru, there's no way i will give this to her. At least in this life time....am i stupid?" His bitter smile come across his face.
"...but you see, i hope, in one way or another, she would receive it....i wish i could live freely in a new life, i wish my sins will be burn away. I wish i will find her again"
The tears dropping in the pair of hairpins and the notes beneath written
" Kanroji, I love you, will you marry me"
.....
Tokyo city, November 2019.
"Kanroji," the full moon looked so beautiful. The two were having a night peaceful date, up in the hill, looking at night lights of the city from the higher up. Kanroji leaning on his shoulder.
"uhmm"
"i love you" the woman of his life smiling, staring at him with love. The woman who's name engraved in the letter he found. 'i have falling in love with you for a very long time'
"Me too, Iguro san, i love you" giving him a kiss. He startled but smiling, Iguro kneeling.
"I, my blood perhaps are dirty in my past life, i couldn't gain strength to tell you. I wish, in this life time....Kanroji, would you like to spend your life time with me?" Iguro opening up the box, a pair of a sakura hairpin were there along with the note.
Kanroji watching at him with tears in her eyes. She was always waiting for this moment. Hugging him, she's nodding. "Yess, of course, make me your bride, Iguro san!"
The two hugging for a long time.
"Iguro san, you remember it? I think our dream is interconnected, i always feel like we had known for a long time. "Kanroji looking at the hairpin she's received. Instead of ring, it was so pretty a vintage kind of hairpin.
Iguro smiling, kissing her again.
"i want to protect you and make you happy this time. I'll not let you die".
.....
Yushiro walking with his cat, watching the full moon in distance.
"Tsk, annoying man. Even in this life you are getting pathetic. Anyway, Chachamaru, I'm going to Kiriya tomorrow. There's something i need to tell. "
In his hand were the ticket to Hachijo island and a random bunch of keys.

umineko spoilers
New umineko theory. I know who ikuko hachijo is. Its battler. Battler left the island, was transgender, hit someone with her car. and then decided to gaslight that person because he was into a twinning kink. you cant disprove this the image of dlanor living inside my brain:
Knox's 10th: A character disguising themself as another without any clues is FORBIDDEN.
Without any clues? This entire story has been preparing us for this! Thats not even the original text of the rule. It went "Twin brothers, and doubles generally, must not appear unless we have been duly prepared for them." You stated that like it refutes this as a possibility because there isnt a clue for this specific person to be disguised, but the rule only asks for it to be prepared in general!
Knox's 7th: For the detective to be the culprit is FORBIDDEN.
Outside of the catbox, I am not the detective. The POV character attempting to resolve what happened after that is instead Ange. Therefore, nothing is barring me from doing any such actions.
Knox's Tenth: The case being solved with any clues not presented is FORBIDDEN.
Wait. Clues about which part. The twinning thing, or being trans?
You should answer both, however I was intending to ask about you about your interest in TWINNING.
For the twinning part, whenever people are showing some interest in me, they begin to take up some of my maneurisms, like the whole "It's useless, it's all useless" thing. They know that I'm interested in that so they try to cater to it. For the transgender part, I broadly overperform masculinity like an actor that doesnt quite understand the words being said. At the beginning of part 1 I mention using hormones I bought online. I refuse to take off this suit jacket except around other transgender people, in order to hide my 3 month hrt puffy nipples.
If that is the case, when did you figure out she was TRANSGENDER?
I'm a breast sommelier. I knew as soon as I felt Shannon's boobs. Them being fake made them no less special to play with. Its like sucking the strap.
But if you knew she was transgender then why did it take you so long to figure out who beatrice was?

Cursory Umineko Spoilers warning - Alliance through Twilight. Major, full spoilers.
Though I try to be vague anyway.
Reading Alliance and something about this line struck me.
Nanjo mentions that Kinzo felt joy when his kids (Krauss, Eva, Rudolf, and Rosa) brought their newborn babies to meet him, the cousins.
And the adults agree with that statement. That Kinzo had been happy, to look at the cousins. (Also that he saw them as newborns, which indicates that very early in their lives, either Kinzo came to see them…or they were brought to Rokkenjima).
That reminded me of Rosa, when she mentioned that Kinzo had been angry when she’d gone and named Maria without his input - which in turn implies he at least helped to name all of his grandchildren.
Which makes it extremely funny to me how, back in Legend, Battler had mentioned (jokingly) that both his parents had sat at the top of his must-kill list, with the worker who had approved it, because of his name and it’s weird spelling. So really, there should be a fourth person (Kinzo).
It feels pretty weird to me, especially considering the scene that those small lines - of Kinzo feeling joy about his grandchildren - are such a small part of the ensuing scene, the VN, as a whole
We don’t really get to see any indication of Kinzo caring about his grandkids on screen, because when he does mention them, in the earlier episodes - it’s to their detriment.
I can’t remember what he said about George, he called Jessica illiterate and Maria unsightly, and mentioned that Battler ditched the family name and register…so, those are not exactly glowing words about his grandchildren.
This can be pinned on his debatable mental state at the time as he is actively nearing the end stages of his life and isn’t very stable. At all. (in other words, he appears completely insane a grand majority of his time in the VN, especially in Alliance).
There’s also as the difference between the origin of the gameboards - their writers.
It’s a generally accepted theory that the first two gameboards in Legend and Turn of the Golden Witch were written by Beatrice - or, if you deny the magical side of things, the human who claims to be Beatrice and likely has some level of familiarity with the family.
These, in the real world, presumably wash up as message bottles following the family conference. Both bottles in the world of 1998 had named Eva as a victim of Beatrice’s ritual, although she is the only survivor in the real world - and Legend and Turn fill that criteria.
So, Kinzo’s spurn of his grandchildren could stem from things that Beatrice (human or not) heard, and was her interpretation of her biased viewpoint of Kinzo (Kinzo is still an absolute bastard, though, so although biased, that viewpoint likely isn’t faulty).
Characters in Umineko aren’t capable of seeing all sides to a person - example being Kanon, who was surprised to see Jessica as she behaved at school, when she performed, a side of her wholly hidden to him before that point.
Beatrice is the Golden Witch who Kinzo fell in love with, and trapped on the island. From a magical viewpoint, he drove her to commuting suicide once, trapped her in a new body, and she ended up dying anyway when trying to escape from him, lacking both the memory and power of being the Golden Witch until after she had lost her body.
She is biased towards Kinzo, and not in a particularly good way. (Her human counterpart is especially biased against Kinzo, though she has good reason to considering Kinzo is Terrible).
The others, Banquet through Twilight, were not written by Beatrice. Only two message bottles were ever known to the public, so it can be assumed that the other game boards are instead from different origins.
Hachijo Tohya -> an author from Ange’s world of 1998 who, inspired by the rokkenjima tragedy and subsequent occult inflation of the events, wrote false versions of events derived from the two bottle messages from Beatrice that would wash in the months following October 4th and October 5th, 1986.
Considering (I think) the first mention of Kinzo caring for his grandchildren on some level was from Alliance, that means it wasn’t Beatrice who essentially wrote this part of Kinzo’s ‘character’.
It may have been there in the earlier episodes, but we never see it from any point of view in the narrative.
It is Hachijo Tohya, the forgery writer, who places that statement within Umineko. Considering they are divorced from Rokkenjima, and have the benefit of being twelve years in the future, maybe there is something left behind that indicated as much - or maybe it’s just simply flavor added to the story, lays the tracks for the plot tot follow, considering what happens to the adults immediately afterwards.
But yeah.
If we look at that statement of Kinzo caring for his grandchildren, I’m just - kind of salty that we don’t get to see much of it.
Reasonably though, considering Kinzo is already dead by the time the story begins.
#umineko spoilers#ushiromiya kinzo#the statement that Kinzo did care for his grandkids#which we never really see expanded on until twilight#and considering Twilight was specifically made just for one person#it almost feels as though Kinzo’s buoyancy is an act#a mask fashioned off how he could have been and yet was not

Hurricane John makes landfall in Mexico, Japan’s Izu islands hit by tsunami
Severe weather conditions continue to disrupt the plans of the inhabitants of our planet. This time Americans suffered from a hurricane, and residents of Japan were warned of an impending tsunami.
Hurricane John slams into Mexico’s southern coast
Hurricane John hit the southern Pacific coast of Mexico on Monday, becoming a powerful category three storm. Local authorities warned of life-threatening storm surges and the potential for catastrophic flash flooding.
The hurricane brought ferocious winds and potentially “extreme” rainfall after turning from a tropical storm to a powerful hurricane in a matter of hours, officials said.
Hurricane John hit the town of Marquelia, located in the tourist state of Guerrero, with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph (193 km/h) at about 9:15 p.m. Central Standard Time, the US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) said in a statement.
The rapid strengthening of the hurricane appeared to take authorities by surprise, and they rushed to update warnings for residents and issue evacuation orders for those living along the coast.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador urged coastal residents to seek higher ground, and the main emergency agency declared a red alert level for parts of Guerrero state and the neighbouring state of Oaxaca. The president wrote on social media:
“Don’t forget that life is the most important thing – material things can be replaced.”
According to the Conagua National Water Commission, the storm is expected to bring “extraordinary” rainfall exceeding 250 mm (10 inches) to parts of the states of Guerrero and Oaxaca. It also forecast more than 150 mm (6 inches) of rainfall for Chiapas, Mexico’s southernmost state.
Heavy rains caused by “John” could cause “significant and possibly catastrophic, life-threatening flooding and landslides” in the states of Chiapas, Oaxaca and southeastern Guerrero through Thursday, the NHC warned. A hurricane watch has also been declared for parts of Cuba and the US.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency in 41 counties ahead of the arrival of Hurricane John.
Japan advises remote islands of potential tsunami
Meanwhile, Japan’s remote Izu islands south of Tokyo were hit by a small tsunami Tuesday, with no damage reported, after a magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck near the unpopulated island in the Pacific Ocean.
The 50cm-high tsunami reached Hachijo Island, one of the Izu Islands, about 40 minutes after the quake, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
Damage from the tsunami and earthquake has not been confirmed, state broadcaster NHK reported. The meteorological agency said earlier that residents of Izu and Ogasawara islands should be prepared that a tsunami up to 1m high could hit the coast.

An elegant new orchid hiding in plain sight
It is extremely rare for a new plant species to be discovered in Japan, a nation where flora has been extensively studied and documented. Nevertheless, Professor SUETSUGU Kenji and his associates recently uncovered a stunning new species of orchid whose rosy pink petals bear a striking resemblance to glasswork (Fig. 1). Since it was initially spotted near Hachijo Island in Tokyo Prefecture, the new species has been given the name Spiranthes hachijoensis. Interestingly, it can be found in familiar environments such as lawns and parks, and even in private gardens and on balconies. This research suggests that other new species may be hiding in common places, eliminating the need to venture into remote tropical rainforests to discover them. The genus Spiranthes encompasses a captivating and gorgeous variety of orchids, which exhibit an array of distinctive morphological traits. The flowers are typically small and white or pinkish, and arranged in a spiral around a central stalk, hence the moniker “ladies’ tresses.” Spiranthes is the most familiar orchid in Japan and has been cherished for centuries, even appearing in the Manyoshu, Japan’s oldest extant anthology of poetry. For a long time, it was believed that the Spiranthes on the Japanese mainland constituted a single species: Spiranthes australis. However, while conducting extensive field surveys focused on Japanese Spiranthes specimens, Suetsugu came across several populations of an unknown Spiranthes taxon with hairless flower stems, on the mainland of Japan (Fig. 1). The unknown taxon often grows alongside S. australis but blooms about a month earlier, thus leading to reproductive isolation between the two taxa. Given that S. australis is characterized by a hairy flower stem, the hairless individuals may represent an overlooked species. Consequently, Suetsugu and his colleagues embarked on a comprehensive and multifaceted ten-year study to determine precisely how these plants differed. Specimens were collected from various locations in Japan, Taiwan, and Laos. By integrating results from DNA analysis, morphology, field observations, and reproductive biology, Suetsugu and his associates discovered that it is a cryptic species that exhibits a high level of molecular divergence, albeit with minimal morphological differentiation (Fig. 2). The fact that the “common” Spiranthes is actually divided into two species is likely to pique the curiosity of the general public. The discovery of a new flowering plant species in Japan is considered an extraordinarily rare event since the flora of this region has been extensively researched. However, the new species reported here can even be found growing in commonplace environments such as parks and lawns. Some specimens used to describe this new species were collected from private gardens and balconies. This discovery of new species concealed in common locales underscores the necessity of persistent exploration, even in seemingly unremarkable settings! This research was conducted by a multi-institutional team of researchers, including Professor Suetsugu (Graduate School of Science, Kobe University), Professor SUYAMA Yoshihisa (Graduate School of Agricultural Science, Tohoku University), and Dr. Tian-Chuan Hsu (Taiwan Forestry Research Institute). The paper was published online in the Journal of Plant Research on March 17, 2023. Journal InformationTitle: “Spiranthes hachijoensis (Orchidaceae), a new species within the S. sinensis species complex in Japan, based on morphological, phylogenetic, and ecological evidence” DOI: 10.1007/s10265-023-01448-6 Authors: Kenji Suetsugu, Shun K. Lovely retro Showa feeling for this outfit. The kimono is tailored from kihachijō (yellow silk with dark striped or checkered pattern from Hachijō island). The matching obi has a lovely kuwazomeiro base (a color once produced from mulberry, very fashionable during Edo) and the cutest red “tail” on the tare.
