So if you like zombies and found families, maybe give this a look and spread it around so they can get the funds they need!

I am a chaos goblin who often starts new books before I’ve finished the ones I’m currently reading. Because of this, I have been know to be reading 20+ books at once. It’s chaotic, but it works for me and keeps me reading. But even I have my limits! On Storygraph my Currently Reading list is 40 books long, and that appears to be the point at which this strategy fails. 40 is— I can hardly believe I’m saying this— too many books!
In an endeavor to get this list back to a manageable level, I am actually going to limit myself and try to finish some of these books. And to make this more fun for myself, I am going to document this effort here on Substack. I’ll be prioritizing books I physically own, the better to organize my dragon horde at home and reclaim a few side tables. But I also have ebooks and audio books on this list and I’ll work my way through those as well. I’m going to be giving everything a 1-10 rating(a scale I’ve robbed from my book club) and noting my favorite tropes, themes, etc for each!
Book 1 of 40: How We End by LM Juniper.
Tumblr media
Rating: 8 - Regularly Enjoyable
We love to see it: Independently published. Transmasc representation. Diverse cast. A dash of found family.
An apocalyptic infection in London forces seven misfit strangers and Karma, their loyal mastiff, to analyze their own secrets and make impossible choices. This story is incredibly character driven, focusing a lot on the individual inner turmoil as well as the social dynamics this leads to. While the characters are never fully out of danger, the author makes great use of each brief reprieve to dig into their inner lives. I got rather attached to them all, which made many points of the book particularly devastating. There’s plenty of danger, angst, and even a little bit of emotion healing and growth.
This story includes spore-zombies — the mushroom infested cousins of our classic zombie that have become popular of late. And they are just as terrifying as The Last of Us ones. I really hated them. They felt just a little too real and creepy.
It ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. But, if my instagram sleuthing is correct, there is a draft in the editing stages for a new book: How We Survive. Looking forward to reading that one too.
Book one of my death by currently reading list done!

The exact opposite of being doomed by the narrative

I discovered this game while playing with a group of friends on Halloween, and I must say it was quiet immersive because we each wanted different things so we always had to argue together on what to do before the Voices would Took 3 days to complete a single run

do you guys ever think about how Wyll is introduced as an archetypal fantasy hero, but then it turns out he’s a warlock, who made a pact with a devil. Do you ever think about how Ansur is described as this fantastical dragon of myth, but then when you find him, he’s turned into an undead monstrosity. Do you think about how when Wyll does the right thing, he is punished to become more monstrous. Do you think about how as Wyll’s warlock powers grow, his spells get more horrific. Do you think about how Ansur was killed by his closest friend. Do think about how Wyll was cast out by the most important person in his life. do you guys ever think about Ansur and Wyll.
