I was in grade 5 when Mum made me join the gym. Made me, because I did not want to leave my friends on the road in the lurch. Jumping from house to house, running across the streets screaming and playing…

I understand that literature nerd Jason Todd is kind of overblown in fanon compared to it's actual presence in canon (a few issues during his pre (and post?)crisis Robin tenure that highlight it) BUT consider that I think it's hilarious if the unhinged gun toting criminal has strong opinions on poetry
#ramblings of a lunatic#dc comics#Jason Todd#batfamily#it's just a fun quirk! it's a fun lil detail and I simply cannot slight ppl for enjoying and incorporating it into works#like obviously jason isn't the only one. I'm a big believer in the batfam having over lapping interests they refuse to bond over#i know dick canonically used the robin hood stories (which are pretty flowery in their language far as i can tell) as inspo for Robin#and i know babs was a librarian and even tho her area of nerddom is characterized as more computery she probably knows quite a lot-#-about literature as well#duke is a hobbyist writer i believe? i saw a fan mention that- which if so is great and I hope he's also a nerd#(i mean he is canonically. i remember him being a puzzle nerd in his introduction. but i mean specifically a lit nerd)#damian called Shakespeare boring but also took acting classes so i think he's more of a theatre kid.#Tim's a dropout and i don't think he's ever shown distinct interest in english lit and i can't remember for Steph?#I'm ngl my brain hyperfocused on musician Steph i forget some of her other interests I'm sorry (minus softball and gymnastics!)#and then Cass had her whole (non linear but it's whatevs) arc about literacy and learning to read#went from struggling to read in batgirl 00 to memorizing Shakespeare in 'tec and is now an avid read in batgirls!#she's shown reading edgar allen poe but we don't know if it's his short stories or his poems#point to all of the above being: i know Jason's not the only lit nerd in the batfam#but also i do need him to be writing poetry in his spare time and reading and reviewing it#jason at the next dead robins society meeting: evening folks today I'll be assigning all of us poems based on laika the space dog#damian and steph who have been kidnapped and brought to jasons warehouse to hangout: LET US GO BITCH#speaking of^ random poem i think jason would like: space dog by alan shapiro#wake up one morning in an unfamiliar more mature body with a profound sense of abandonment. the last four lines. mmm tasty

Something I never see people bring up enough is that DJ is a professional ribbon dancer and I’m assuming acrobat too since you can’t have one without the other (plus I think the second trophy is something for gymnastics) and has won awards, this is the same vibe as a closeted gay kid going to tap dance classes

Jamie and Roy spending ridiculous amounts of time together and Phoebe knowing about it definitely means that Jamie’s around Phoebe a lot more in the off-season when she’s off school and Roy’s off work but still being Jamie’s personal trainer for free (and she definitely likes bossing Jamie around just as much as Roy does and finds the ridiculous shit Roy makes him do hilarious)
And you know that thing where kids love to randomly go watch this, I can do a somersault or want to see me do a cartwheel? and then you just have to awkwardly stand there and be like wow whether they actually can do them or not (and sometimes several times in a row have to try to think of something new to say the fifth time they do the exact same thing and then look to you for a reaction)
I’m just saying at some point they’re in some park and Phoebe definitely pulls a look how good I’m getting at cart wheels, Uncle Roy! around Jamie at some point and while Roy just stands there like 🧍‍♂️ and gives compliments that gradually get more and more deadpan and debates turning it into saying how much more impressive that is than anything Jamie’s done all morning but he doesn’t because he’s 90% sure that would just lead to Jamie getting all indignant and competitive and proving he can cartwheel too as if Roy isn’t already annoyingly aware of that from when he was dying trying to keep up with Jamie in Amsterdam while he was cartwheeling and practically skipping
But obviously Roy not saying anything doesn’t matter anyway and Jamie turns it into being like watch this to Phoebe and cartwheeling too and turning to Roy after like well go on, tell me how good I am at that too
Roy deadpans somehow it’s far less impressive watching a grown man cartwheel for attention. It’s just sad, really
But Jamie isn’t offended at all and just shoots Roy an obnoxious smirk and insists you’re just saying that because you know you couldn’t do one. Even trying would probably end with you needing a hip replacement or something
But before Roy can even properly argue or say something bitchy back, Jamie’s turning back to Phoebe with a how about this then? But even though it’s her he asks, it’s Roy he looks to the moment he finishes running a few steps and doing a one-handed cartwheel
And Jamie’s like well now are you impressed??? And god, Roy resents that he is and he could make a dig about how useless of a skill it was as an adult and how that wouldn’t accomplish anything on the pitch and he’d just look like one of the kids that picks flowers on the pitch instead of playing or even paying attention to where the ball is, but instead he rolls his eyes and says yeah okay
And Jamie beams but he doesn’t have time to properly gloat and give Roy shit because Phoebe’s already bossing him around telling him that he has to teach her how to do that too

Ways in Which I am Simultaneously Clumsy and Acrobatic
Getting phone off bed because alarm is ringing
Step backwards
Hit the laundry basket
Begin to fall
Try to catch balance but alas, high arches on both sides of feet mean I am at all times teetering like a teenager in stilettos
Going down, there's no helping it
Twist body around to catch self on laundry basket to avoid crushing it
SUCCESS
Headphones are falling off
Reach up, headphones fall gently and perfectly into palm
This was an entirely unnecessary situation caused only by how incredibly and awe-inspiringly off-balance I am at all times, yet I handled it with the kind of dexterity one would expect of a practiced rogue.
I would make an incredibly bad rogue.

Pro Tip:
If you put on chapstick before chewing gum, when you blow a bubble and it pops it will not stick to your lips and force you to do tongue gymnastics to get it back into your face

Here are what the gen 2 kids did in high school idk I’m so bored
Staci:
•Big History and Biology enjoyer

•Part of the literature club
Dakota:
•Didn’t care much for academic classes
•On the volleyball team and cheerleading squad
•Took theatre classes but wasn’t very good in them, she just needed an elective
B:
•Obviously a big STEM kid, mostly physics
•Was in computer programming and coding classes
•Captain of the robotics team
Dawn:
•Really liked environmental science and biology, was in whatever the Canadian equivalent of NHS is to do environmental community service
•Also a big art kid, mostly into sculpting and painting
•Idk if this is just because my high school was in a like, rich farming area but we had an agriscience program and I think they’d really like it
Sam:
•Once again not super academic but he liked math well enough and his teachers mostly liked him
•Also into computer programming, as well as graphic/game design
•Part of the chess club
Brick:
•Obviously in JROTC and enjoyed history classes
•Also loved art a lot, told his dad he took it for a credit but he just likes it
•Was the waterboy for the football team, moved onto wrestling at some point
Anne Maria:
•The only classes she liked were choir and her study hall period
•Was captain of the softball team though; tried out for cheerleading but didn’t make the cut and now holds a grudge against them
•Cut class half the time
Mike:
•Didn’t like most of his classes except for Film & TV and Guitar
•Part of the color-guard, also on the wrestling team because there was no kickboxing team
•Part of the A/V club
Jo:
•Hated her core classes but loved gym
•Only female member of the football team, co-captain with Lightning
•Took an automotive mechanics class because she needed to fill her schedule and liked it
Scott:
•Barely scraped by in his classes by cheating
•Would play a sport but he hates team work
•In agriscience program with Dawn and beefs with her constantly
Zoey:
•Really good at English and History but not STEM classes
•Obviously a huge art kid, also in film & TV with Mike, they make short films together
•Also in colorguard, yippee!! And technical theatre, I think she’d be a dresser
Lightning:
•Really not good at any of his classes, he has others do his work for him so his grades stay high enough to play football
•Co-captain of the football team with Jo, he hates it sm
•Takes dance classes; says it’s for credit but it’s not
Cameron:
•Big STEM enjoyer, he’s great at statistics and all kinds of science
•In B’s robotics club but he never goes to competition because it makes him nervous
•Captain of the chess team, he and Sam play together
