After the Burial
RIP Justin Lowe

“And in the end I will show you that this life in only madness
Can we filter out
The toxicity?
And find worth in the static
We build and build
We forget the model
We design the madness and we paint it gold
Swarming and spiraling
Burning at both ends
A blur on the horizon
We fail to keep site
Over and over again
Open your palms up
Resist the current”
- “Lost in the Static”
“Smash everything around you
It’s all yours if you wish
Give and take in the palm of your hand
Return us where we all begin
Spun of earth, masked and secret
Liars hide inside us all
With sharpened teeth vast that never end
To the gallows we descend”
- “Behold the Crown”
“Feel defeat
Breathe relief
All the pain is leaving
Misleading, deceiving
Everything doesn’t mean anything to me
Suffocate
Seal your fate
Separate the guilt and faults from your own mind”
- “Nothing Gold”
“We melt away at the summer’s heat
Stuck between
Our own ideas in paralyzed nights
We kick and turn in searing waves
Like hollow shells
Dread echoes inside
Reverberate… in infinity
Reverberate… in infinity”
- “Collapse”
“Where do we begin?
When everything is wrong we just forget
Move along and we play pretend
Surround your life with silver and gold
Your tinsel dreams and the make believe
Deconstructed and paralyzed
So slowly somehow I’m evaporating
We dream to be the lesser
A maligned separate existence
We belittle ourselves to a lesser
being - our dreams are not our dreams”
- “A Wolf Amongst Ravens”
“We carry ghosts
The godless head of pure dispair
Gripped by the throat
Release me
From this curse
I abandoned”
- “Death Keeps Us From Living”
“We misplace dreams and study braille throughout the dark
And there’s hope for a better future
And there’s hope for a better life
Rage
I will put this all back inside of me
Ghosts of my past lift me up
Carry me through blinding light”
- “Laurentian Ghosts”
“Life is a lesson
That we don’t sign up for
But we fatefully learn
And as I grow old
Time will break me apart”
- “Neo Seoul”
“I’ll never look back
Nothing really mattered til now
Decades waiting to be caught in your wind
And when your voice gave notes it pushed my sails
We found safety growing within ourselves
Just two children waiting at the window for the rain to stop”
- “Deluge”
“Give me indication
Give me separation
With everything seeming pulseless
Give me indication
Give me separation
I’m drifting into oblivion
And there’s no place I’d rather be
I’m drifting into oblivion”
- “Pennyweight”
“Do you know what it’s like to be
Inside - separate from life
A shallow grave for benevolence
Submerged
We grasp for light but none that truly exist
Better then, nothing now
You feel the earth surround you as you fall”
- “Mire”
“Guiding me from within
For I am just a part of who
Just a part of who I was back then
Where we were when this all began
For I am just a part of who
Just a part of who I was back the
Where we were when this all began
Something inside me
I cannot fix
So we begin
Begin again”
- “Disconnect”
“When I return
I dream of another life
Failure transparent in the palm of my hand
I am the contortionist
We are the contortionists
I can feel this distance is further and farther
Without you
Contorting to fit
Somewhere I do not belong”
- “Your Troubles Will Cease and Fortune Will Smile Upon You”
“Misery, I wanted to forget you
But five years later I have grown
I have regret
You were better deserved
But we all learn
Hands to broken mirrors
We shattered our design
You were always so easy for me
To leave in ruins”
- “Nine Summers”
“But we emerged soaked in grace
Dripping with the truth
You’ve fired upon a target so clear
But we’ve shattered our own glass hearts
We’ve fought with sweat and blood
This life is all we have
Today has taken a bloody toll
But the nightfall will claim your life”
- “A Steady Decline”
“And like the nights upon nights to come
I will dream of you
And know that I will see you soon
Give me the strength to carry on”
- “To Carry You Away”
“I feel the words escaping
The break from my thoughts
And disappear from my mouth
They leave behind a taste
The taste of failure
So familiar it reminds me of you
Don’t say you’ll save my life”
- “My Frailty”
“I won’t stand by
While you plague the air
With your lies and deception
My shirt stained crimson from long nights of anguish
These scars are forever
But this won’t be eternity”
- “Fingers Like Daggers”
“Escape is granted
And in this moment
I free myself
As each memory fades
In this emptiness
I free myself”
- “Parise”
“Victim of anger
Tied to distance
Where does it come from?
Distrust
I’ve stood strong
Held my head high through constant war
So brutal, so violent
So I tiptoe through conversation
A lapse in my step is misperceived
Unleash a breath of salvation
In dormancy lies everlasting rage”
- “Aspiration”
“I reach into memories
I long to relive those times
Those younger days
If only time would stop
Stand still
Maybe I could see myself
What I’ve become
It’s sickening
This isn’t me”
- “Rareform”
“Now follow the thrashing thought of your dream to exist
Pursue what may never come
Releasing demons and banishing them to the depths
Of bloody memories and regrets
The outer shell is decomposing
Releasing a new upgraded self”
- “Ometh”
“I can feel this emptiness
Slowly I am fading out
I can feel this emptiness
And this is becoming of me
My hands hold on tight
I’m not letting go
Words are never good enough
Everything I breathe
Is broken letters and bad timing
And they are becoming of me”
- “Sleeper”

Leverage Mark Showdown Masterpost
RESULTS ARE IN! JACK HURLEY IS THE #1 FAVORITE MARK!
2nd Place: Damien Moreau
3rd Place: Victor Dubenich
4th Place: Meredith
What we’re looking for:
The “favorite” Mark out of the original five seasons. “Favorite” here means the mark you ENJOY the most. That could mean you love them, love to hate them, like their style, like the actor, or even sympathize with them.
So it’s pretty personal and pretty open. But what we’re NOT looking for is like, the biggest baddest mark: the one with the objectively best plan, or the one who does the most harm, or anything like that. It’s not “who could beat up whom.” We’re also not looking for the best episode or con. We’re just looking at the characters themselves.

pbsthisdayinhistory:
August 12, 1990: ‘Sue’ the T. Rex is Discovered
On this day in 1990, the best preserved skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus Rex was discovered in western South Dakota. Ten years later, the Sue exhibit went on display at Chicago’s Field Museum. Sue, or FMNH PR 2081, has a record 80 percent complete skeleton.
Perhaps the greatest mystery about dinosaurs is how did they get so big? Sue is fully 20 feet tall and 40 feet long. How she got that big, it turns out, is tied up in yet another mystery: How long did she live?
By studying the bones of both extinct dinosaurs and their living reptilian cousins—alligators and lizards—Greg Erickson of Florida State University has been able to answer both questions: like a reptilian James Dean, T. rex lived fast and died young.
Watch this NOVA scienceNOW clip to see how scientists discovered Sue’s age.

I saw on the Buffyverse Wiki that Greg Cox (author of many media-tie-in novels) wrote a Star Trek trilogy called The Eugenics Wars. Apparently one of the scientists in vol 1 The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh is named Maggie Erickson and she's engaged to Everett Walsh. Get it. Maggie Walsh. Her doctoral dissertation was in child psychology.
In 1974, she's in India working on Project Chrysalis, genetically engineering superhumans. She was director for the base's daycare facility for Augment (short for augmentation) children.
Anthony Stewart Head (Giles) narrated vol 1. 😮
Please, someone send me the audio & PDF (yay, found the PDF)

The lies they told–and maybe believed: What NC Republicans said about rejecting the Electoral College results
Make no mistake, there is an alternative reality to go with the alternative facts of MAGA world. While most of the country is appalled by the assault on the Capitol and democracy that killed four people including a Capitol police officer, the right-wing sees the attack as a successful start of another civil war. They are high-fiving their efforts and gearing up to storm Capitol Hill in the days…

Leverage Mark Showdown -- First Heat Contestants
Where the nominator left comments (or fun extra descriptors), I’m including their comments, cause those are way better than what I’d come up with. Where they didn’t leave comments, you’ll have to settle for mine :P
Mark Doyle
The Bottle Job
I genuinely liked him as a character, he was sleazy but so fun. The accent was fun, he was an easy mark, and he screamed like a girl. One of my fave episodes cause of him.
David Lampard aka “Truffle Jackass”
The French Connection Job
who the hell meets “gnar slabdash the n is mostly silent” and just TAKES THAT at face value
“His Honor Mayor Brad Culpepper III”
The Three Strikes Job and to a lesser extent The Maltese Falcon Job
TONAAAAAAAAAAAAAY
Ian Blackpoole
The First and Second David Jobs
The man has balls, okay? I’ve said it before -- a disgruntled, disheveled ex-employee pulls a gun on him, and his response is to calmly ask if he’s going to kill him, then invite him to his party, offer him shrimp, and call his ex wife over to see him. Ice cold.
Mark Vector
The Morning After Job
he's a bitch and a sleaze and it was so satisfying seeing him go down
Greg Sherman aka “The Blowfish”
The Boiler Room Job
my ultimate love-to-hate. I always spend the episode going WHY DO I HATE THIS GUY SO MUCH before remembering oh yeah it’s cause he’s the bad guy, I’m supposed to hate him. BUT I HATE HIM SO MUCH!
Victor Dubenich
The Nigerian Job, The Radio Job, The Last Dam Job
man you guys had a lot to say about this one! here goes:
- he's awful but he's also how they came together
- i like the actor that plays him
- THE OG. mr inciting incident. my most underrated man saul rubinek. the absolute balls on this guy. might even still be out there you never know
- Not only the first and the one who accidentally helped bind together a world-class team and eventually sent them after himself - twice; but also the first echo/cast-caĺlback to the Nero Wolfe series.
- He consistently thinks he's better than the crew, but Nate keeps outsmarting him anyway. Plus, the fact that he and Latimer forced Nate into calling back some old favorites, there's a number of reasons to love The Last Dam Job. I will never get over the hacking with a clam thing
- Because he came back with a revenge plan and because he started this whole thing when he screwed the team over
- this guy kinda kickstarted the whole thing by being greedy and selfish enough to try and double-cross not just a group of thieves, but a man who was ROYALLY screwed by the system literal months prior by using his dead kid against him. He's arrogant, but just smart enough to be a threat as of The Last Dam Job, and even then his insistence that he "knows" the team better than Nate after all these years is one of the things that leads to his downfall. Seriously, fuck that guy.
Judge Roy
The Bank Shot Job
He commits to the bit, okay? I WILL turn this entire episode into a western and I WILL be the black-had domineering bad guy and I WILL refuse to have any semblence of self-awareness about it at any time!
Gabe Erickson
The Real Fake Car Job
Matthew Lillard is great, and I absolutely loved "Nobody's plotting to kill you, you idiot!"
Starke’s Crew ( Marcus Starke, Chaos, Mikel Dayan, Apollo)
The Two Live Crew Job
They were so fun and I absolutely adored their interactions with our leverage crew.
Scott Roemer
The (Very) Big Bird Job
The Carey Elwes? The Howard Hughes cosplay? The fact that he thinks he stole and destroyed the entire Spruce Goose?
Jack Hurley
The 12-Step Job
- It was nice to see a mark that’s not a POS and have the team ‘help’ once they realised that
- He was a genuinely great guy who's just a fuck up. I get it.
- He is just too excitable and honest and keeps getting into shit way over his head but is too sweet to really hate
- I really enjoyed having a Mark who "redeemed" themselves to. Plus, hes a goofy character, and seeing him a second time when I didn't expect it made me double take and laugh on my first watch.
Monica Hunter
The Three Days of the Hunter Job
- she's horrible and interesting and you get the most satisfaction from seeing her go down. also the bit where she's being interrogated by the army and she's like "it's okay I know that there *totally aren't* any secret bases ;-)" and the guy is so tired and like "yes that's bc there aren't any secret bases" and she's like "I know you have to say that ;-)" and he's right
- rip girl you would have loved qanon
- I love conspiracy theorists who don't even really believe in the awful stuff they make up (+ it's a terrible human being with the face of aunt zelda)
William Quinn & Tobey Earnshaw
The Juror #6 Job
He was a fakeass hippie played by Brent Spiner. She was trying so damn hard to be a chessmaster it was embrrasing. Can I make it any more obvious?
Eddie Maranjian
The Order 23 Job
Man there’s a few marks I can’t help but feel viscerally bad for cause of how the crew preys on their fears and neuroses that they can’t help. So a little sympathy, and also like, affinity crimes are nasty fucking things but in terms of story it’s a nice change of pace from the usual white guys playing chess from their lofty towers
Caroline Cowan
The Low Low Price Job
Oh another one that I kinda almost feel bad for for how much they freaked her out. This is a good matchup!
