IDW Debuts the Haunting Cover Artwork to May’s Dark Spaces: Good Deeds #1
Since its initial announcement at San Diego Comic-Con last summer, Dark Spaces: Good Deeds—the second comic book miniseries in New York Times best-selling author Scott Snyder’s curated line of IDW original projects—has been shrouded in secrecy. This eerie historical thriller of obsession, power, and redemption carefully kept from the public, waiting for just the right time to surface…and that time is now!
In anticipation of the series launch in May, IDW unveiled the ethereal cover artwork for the first issue of Dark Spaces: Good Deeds, giving the first tantalizing taste of the six-issue miniseries written by Che Grayson (Batman: Urban Legends), with art by Kelsey Ramsay (Joan Jett and the Black Hearts, I Love Rock-n-Roll), and colors by Ronda Pattison (Dark Spaces: Wildfire). “The most rewarding part of overseeing Dark Spaces is watching the ascendant talent of newcomers evolve from ideas into incredible new comic books,” says Snyder. “Che and Kelsey have crafted a pitch-perfect, soul-searing mystery in Good Deeds. It’s the perfect story to expand the Dark Spaces line to visionary new creators…and it’s only the first of more to come.”
The unifying theme of Scott Snyder’s Dark Spaces line is the exploration of decisions made—and irreversible actions taken—by desperate people in desperate situations. Each character-driven entry in the Dark Spaces anthology series is a fully contained, standalone story written or curated by Snyder, championing the new generation of comic creators.
As testament to Dark Spaces’ commitment to up-and-coming talent, Good Deeds #1 features evocative covers from a gifted handpicked team, including series artist Ramsay, Elizabeth Beals (Star Trek: The Next Generation—Terra Incognita), Hayden Sherman (Dark Spaces: Wildfire), and Martin Morazzo (Ice Cream Man) with colors by Chris O’Halloran. In Good Deeds, teenager Cheyenne Rite and her mother, Rebecca, move to St. Augustine, Florida, in search of a fresh start. They cross paths with Jean McKnight, a disgraced big-city journalist determined to rebuild her career, starting with a fluff piece on the town’s upcoming 450th anniversary celebration. When the quaint community’s festivities give way to bloodshed, Jean begins an investigation, and the women find themselves at the heart of a supernatural conspiracy linked to St. Augustine’s sinister colonial past.
“I’m incredibly excited to get this into the hands of horror fans who are searching for a story that will be scary and thought-provoking in equal measure,” says Grayson. “I’ve always been drawn to stories where flawed characters find themselves thrust in the middle of a mystery. But the only way they can uncover the truth of that mystery is if they face their own dark secrets. I hope that readers find Jean’s journey really satisfying as she searches for meaning in the world and in her own life.”
“It’s been such an effortless collaboration with this absolute powerhouse of a team,” says Ramsay. “I am beyond excited for when Good Deeds reaches readers, and I can only hope our story spooks readers into loving it!” “Scott and I are thrilled to see Che and Kelsey thriving in the Dark Spaces spotlight. They ran with the challenge of following Wildfire, and their work in Good Deeds exemplifies the vision for this line. It’s a razor-sharp and unsettling story told fearlessly by creators on the verge of becoming the industry’s next household names. The mystery of Cheyenne and Jean’s unusual partnership haunts every page, and we can’t wait to share it with readers,” says senior editor Maggie Howell.

Hello Bruce Wayne enjoyers!! Time for me to talk about his family (the people, the backgrounds, languages, etc) in my version of DC!! Excluding the Batkids here, because I want to talk more about Bruce's generation and further back.
So. First off, Bruce has two siblings in my version of things. Occasionally three (kinda) for my fun little "Dick Grayson is a Wayne" thing, but I'll be ignoring him for now. Bruce's two consistent siblings are both older than him! Thomas Wayne Jr, of course, and Harley Quinn (their father wasn't all that faithful to Bruce and Thomas Jr's mother).
TJ (as I often see his name shortened to) is about 15 years older than Bruce, but he was kicked out for being a "disappointment" at the age of 18, and Bruce doesn't even know he exists until he pops up again.
Harley is five years older than Bruce. Despite all their years of fighting, they do eventually become pretty good friends. One night, long after Bruce had revealed his identity to her, they drunkenly sent DNA to a lab because they "looked so similar". Yeah, that's how they found out they actually WERE siblings.
Okay so! Onto parents. Martha is Russian. Thomas is Italian American and Southern American (Texan, on his mother's side. Italian-American, because in my version the Waynes were a well-known Gotham mafia family, before Thomas died).
Bruce's first fluent language was Italian, his second was Russian, and it didn't take him long to learn English. Alfred taught him, and Thomas talked to the kid in his Texan accent frequently, so.. Naturally Bruce ended up with a pretty strong Texan accent, with a few fancy-type English pronunciations mixed in. He's very good at putting on Alfred's accent, and tends to use that to cover up his natural Texan one.
Bruce also accidentally slips into Italian all the time, and even though he can speak perfectly fluent English he still goes "Uhhh.. how do you say uh.. you know, that thing? That thing you're holding? Ummm.." All the time.
He often mixes up the words too, usually when excited about something. On talk shows and such, the type that give guests cute animals for some charity reason or other, he ONLY talks to the animals in Italian. Usually with cats it's things such as "Oh, che ragazzo carino! Un gattino così soffice! Sì, sei tu! Sì, sei tu!" and etc. The media LOVES it, and sees it as a very cute and attractive trait of his.
He also slips into Italian when the Justice League is being annoying, usually when he's mid-lecturing them and they refuse to pay attention. "Ascoltate, stronzi! Fai attenzione! Oh mio Dio, siete tutti così dannatamente irritanti a volte... Che cazzo farò con voi inutili??" It's the only time you'll ever catch him swearing at his colleagues while in costume.
#ignore my Google translate Italian I AM learning it but I don't know enough for sentences such as that#bruce wayne#dceu#batman#dc universe#dceu headcanons#batman headcanon#dc headcanon#alfred pennyworth#thomas wayne#thomas wayne jr#martha wayne#italian bruce wayne#russian bruce wayne#justice league#harley quinn#batfam#Bruce 🦇#blog lore

I just really wish people would cross check random claims they’re making in these stories.
This is Che Grayson’s Birds of Prey which…look it’s not a Birds of Prey. You probably could have got way with calling it a Ravens, but it’s not BOP.
“Noah was sent to Arkham Asylum. The youngest patient in the hospital’s history.”
(Urban Legends #14)
Okay, so we’re claiming here that 13 is the youngest anyone’s been at Arkham.
Which…okay Abigail Arkham grew up at the asylum but technically wasn’t a patient. So you’re clear on that.
Cassius Payne was held at STAR Labs not Arkham, as best as I know (also in the ‘toddler’ stakes). And he’s technically not yet back in continuity in Prime Earth.
But we also have Elliot Strummer, over in House of Gotham in Tec. A storyline that finished the month before this story was published. And Strummer is teeny tiny the first time he’s held at Arkham because there was no space at the orphanage. He’s at MOST 13, probably more like 10.
Just…don’t make bold claims like this about ‘youngest’ when writing, because audiences will try to work out if there’s true and if it’s probably unlikely/wrong from characters appearing in other stories in VERY CLOSE PROXIMITY maybe don’t risk it.
#z canon read throughs#the peace I will feel when DC remembers ‘Birds of Prey’ is a specific team make up#and that there’s other names for morally ambiguous and villain women teams

Walter Hale, Jess Wade, Steve Grayson and Dr. John Carpenter (ECU) as caregivers
Walter Hale (The Trouble With Girls, 1969):
Walter definitely strikes me as the type to adapt to whatever you need. If you need someone gentle, he's there to coddle you. If you need someone stricter, he's there with rules. Whatever you need, he's got. I get the feeling he'd be good with a kiddo who is real small (0-2), but I think if push came to shove he'd also be able to take care of someone older. It all depends on the chemistry.
If he knows you're stressed or teetering over the edge of a breakdown, he has no problem 'forcing' you to regress. He's very naturally manipulative, so it works like a charm. If you're ranting and raving about something, he'll literally come up to you and just pop your pacifier in your mouth with a knowing "better?" He loves when you sit on his lap while he's in meetings, and he has no qualms about walking around the Chautauqua with you on his hip. If anyone has anything to say about your regression, they answer to him. He's the one that you go to when you need to regress, but just...can't.
He absolutely loves buying you pretty little outfits so he can show you off to all his friends, but god-forbid they cast one lustful look in your direction and they're dead before daylight. He doesn't let you get your hands dirty. He loves spoiling you, and delights in your happiness.
He loves when you call him "daddy", and when he's stressed due to work or whatever else, he'll ask you to cuddle with him. It's beneficial to the both of you; he gets to relax, and you get to spend time with him. It's a win-win!
Jess Wade (Charro!, 1969):
He is naturally very stoic, and has a resting bitch face, so he would not be great with a regressor who is incredibly sensitive. He likes taking care of older kiddos (5-9), but doesn't mind taking care of the real little ones too.
He definitely would be the type to tell you to stop crying, then go all wide-eyed and gentle when you just cry harder. He's very straightforward, and expects you to communicate when you are upset and not make him do mental gymnastics to figure out what's bothering you. If you're having a meltdown, he'll usually just leave you to cry it out unless you explicitly state that you want him there.
He doesn't really have rules, but if you are acting particularly rude or just downright mean, he does serve punishments. They are more traditional, like writing lines, cleaning one spot over and over, or standing in a corner. Always tells you afterwords how proud he is of you for handling your punishment well.
This man has absolutely NO paternal instinct, so he learns along the way. If you're having a particularly rough day, big or little, he takes you out on his horse. Sometimes, he'll grab one of his cowboy hats and play peek-a-boo with you. Your laugh is the only thing that can bring a light smile to his face. He will never ask it of you, but his heart would melt into a puddle of goo if you called him "papa."
He likes nonchalant and domestic forms of intimacy, like cleaning up around the house for you and bringing you a flower bouquet he picked himself. His favorite activity, though, is doing shared activities together in silence, eg. reading separate books, but sitting close together.
Steve Grayson (Speedway, 1968):
Steve would not consider himself to be a caregiver whatsoever, but rather just an older brother! He himself is a regressor, but stays in an old enough headspace that he's able to keep a close eye on you. He loves to sit on the floor with you and get lost in a silly game. He adores taking naps with you, but will still knock out for a few (hours) even if you don't.
He himself is very hyperactive, so he would be good with a little that has a vibrant personality and a whole lotta energy! The two of you spend hours running around at a playground, just laughing and having fun because damn it, you both deserve to be happy. He loves booping your nose and squishing your cheeks.
He takes you on fancy ice cream parlour dates once a week! You little meances order 4 scoops of ice cream with all the toppings you can pile on! (...It has enough sugar to put an old woman in a coma.) He doesn't really care about how much sugar you have, as long as you don't get a tummy ache.
He doesn't like titles, but he doesn't mind nicknames! His favorites are "Vee" and "Stevie!"
Although he is an older brother figure, he has some small rules in place for your safety. He asks that you hold his hand when crossing the street, ask him if there's something on a shelf you can't reach, etc. Just little things he can do to keep you safe and make you more comfortable!
Dr. John Carpenter (Change Of Habit, 1969):
He would make an incredible caregiver for anyone struggling with a mental illness or trauma disorder. He understands how delicate someone can be when regressed, so he is very conscious of the things he says and does around you. He understands your brain better than you do, and can tell when you're going to regress beforehand.
He is very helpful when it comes to working through sensory overloads, meltdowns and outbursts. He is so calm and patient, always looking at you with kind eyes. He never punishes you for expressing how you are feeling, but does encourage you to discuss with him the emotions and thought process' behind your words and actions.
Touch is something incredibly special to him, so he's very careful about it. He loves cradling you close to him, especially when you're upset.
He doesn't give you rules, and he lets you "take the lead", so to speak. You go to bed when you can't keep your eyes open, he lets you eat all the sweets you want until you're satisfied, and he doesn't ever force you to regress. But, he does establish somewhat of a routine to make sure you're taking good care of yourself. Something that remains consistent in your routine is that when he notices you're getting super tired, he gives you tummy rubs. He likes playing dolls with you, mainly because he pays attention to the stories you create. Sort of like play therapy!
He would be good with any little (and is good with people in general), but I get the feeling he would be really awesome taking care of a little who has a newborn or baby headspace.

There’s 3 writers still attached to Absolute that haven’t announced anything, any predictions on what they’ll do what you hope they’ll do?
I believe there’s only two left: Che Grayson and Pornsak Pichetshote. A theory I’ve seen is that this ad teases all of the Absolute books:
If you look at the Earth 0 figures, thus far the Absolute books have debuted corresponding Absolute versions. We’ve got Batman (Snyder), Superman (Aaron), Wonder Woman (Thompson), Flash (Lemire), GL (Ewing), and Martian Manhunter (Camp). Booster Gold obviously serves as the bridge character that connects the two universes. John being featured instead of Jo does throw a wrinkle in that theory, but you can excuse it either as John still being in the AGL book, or John merely standing in for the GL franchise in general. If this theory holds true, then the last two books are Zatanna and Starfire related. Could be solos, could be team books, maybe Absolute Shadowpact and Absolute Titans. I guess Grayson would be doing Starfire and Pichetshote would be doing Zatanna.
Pivoting to what I want, I want this theory to be wrong. This is a golden opportunity for DC to get people to care about their minority characters who were created as minorities from the start. You’ve got two minority creators here, safe bet the leads of the books will be the same race as the writers, meaning Grayson will be writing a black lead and Pichetshote will be writing an Asian one. I want Grayson to write Absolute Vixen and Pichetshote to write Absolute Atom (Ryan Choi).
With the success of the Absolute line thus far - every time a new Absolute book drops all the other Absolute books get boosted in Amazon’s digital rankings - this is the chance to finally get people to care about Vixen and Choi Atom. People who would never normally check those books out might do so now, out of a desire to keep up with the whole Absolute line.

I don't know if someone has asked this before but why does Shiva desire death so much? From what i see she seem to be a person who quite enjoy her life at the moment
Because it's more dramatic.
Shiva's death wish thing wasn't really a thing until Kelley Puckett's BATGIRL run, where he hinted at it coming from Shiva's regret over killing so many people. The idea itself is kinda lame for the exact reason you mentioned, but Puckett, to his credit, made it work. First, because he was somewhat subtle about it, and most importantly, because it set up a strong, tangible connection between Cass and Shiva.
Cass understanding Shiva's death wish isn't just some heroic power up moment or a sudden "gotcha!". It's Cass, finally free of her own guilt, being able to see Shiva and understand her the same way Shiva understood Cass. It's looking through Shiva and finding a mirror, finding the same sense of self-destructive guilt she had, the same thing that led her to be killed at Shiva's hands in the first place. It's a bridge between them, a stunning moment of pure reflection, and it works beautifully as a culmination of Cass' entire arc through the run. Which is why, as much as I deeply dislike Shiva having a death wish, I can't in all honesty talk shit about the way Puckett did it.
I can and I will, however, talk shit about the way everyone else after him did it tho', because it always sucked. Dixon used it as an extension of his own hacky idea that Shiva was always looking for someone who would defeat her. Gabrych used it as part of his rushed, convoluted and overall pretty gross retcon of Shiva's backstory. And Che Grayson used it to write a story about empty nesters and grief that kinnnda worked within itself but completely falls apart the moment you put it into context.
Overall, I agree. Shiva wanting to die is nonsensical. She's a fighter, a warrior, she knows very well she's going to die. She shouldn't be written as someone constantly searching for something that she knows is going to happen anyway. And things like remorse or regret should be anathema to her, not because she's some heartless monster, but because she's so devoted to living in the moment.
Also, fun story: Puckett and Scott did a three page Shiva story for a Batgirls Secret Origins special that added a little bit more context to the twist:
Again, not something I personally agree on, but I can't deny the work they put in.

Dick annui e inizio a fare colazione. T/n torno con un bicchiere d'acqua e la medicina e gliela porse Dick la prese.

Reading This Week 2024 #33
As warned, I come to you a day late because I was out of my house from 7:20am to 9:20pm. That time out was planned but also along the way my car battery died so I've sent it to the shop to get it looked at
I've really been in the zone with audiobooks this week, and I also worked on reading through the comic books I've had languishing on my shelf
Finished:
Blue Box, Vol. 1 by Kouji Miura, translated by Christine Dashiell cute manga about some students at a very sports focused high school, badminton playing boy protagonist with a HUGE crush on basketball playing upperclassman girl. pretty cute, great art
Stone Butch Blues by Leslie Feinberg I am so glad that my library system had a physical copy of the 20th anniversary edition. It felt like an honor to hold this book in my hand. As expected, I cried at several points reading this. I have to say though, the mythos that has sprung up around this book (on tumblr but I'm sure elsewhere) as a Lesbian Book really really undersells how much this book's perspective is just as much if not more Working Class. it's a book about labor and difficulty making ends meet while butch: Jess' decision to pass as a man is certainly a gender-identity based decision but crucially it is also a financial one in hopes of getting a better job. Anyway. read the actual book
Remina by Junji Ito, translated by Jocelyn Allen read to keep up with Shelved by Genre. didn't like this one
Boys Weekend by Mattie Lubchansky recommended by a friend, graphic novel where a transfem attends the bachelor party of their old college buddy while the casino town they're in is taken over by a tech-startup-cult
The Empire of Gold by S.A. Chakraborty, narrated by Soneela Nankani okay yeah I spent like the last 2 hours of the audiobook jumping up and down my hallway. this was pretty rad, thanks for the rec dad. if you, like me, are put off by the YA characterization vibes in the first book, the characters do grow up
only fooling yourself by volefriend on ao3
System Collapse by Martha Wells, narrated by Kevin R. Free the murderbot diaries are always great
Jonny Appleseed by Joshua Whitehead, narrated by the author recommended to me by a friend! interesting and matter of fact perspective on racialized sex work from a two-spirit person
The Marlow Murder Club by Robert Thorogood, narrated by Nicolette McKenzie I'm going to come clean, I read this because I forgot the title of The Thursday Murder Club. however I really enjoyed this band of middle aged and older british ladies becoming friends and solving murders
Good Deeds #1-2 written by Che Grayson, art by Kelsey Ramsay, colors by Ronda Pattison comic about a small Florida town with unsettling supernatural stuff happening. I will be tracking down the other issues
Washed in the Blood #1 written by Kevin Roditeli, art by Rob Cannon, Kostas Pantoulas, and Vivi Ekhart the art and the lettering in this comic is crazy fun, but the story might be too "ooh so edgy" for me. I'll keep an eye out for the other issues but wont prioritize it
Crashing #1-3 written by Matthew Klein, art by Morgan Beem, colors by Triona Farrell miniseries focused on a doctor treating superpowered patients. absolutely going to find the other two issues of it, I need to see where this ends
What Feasts at Night by T. Kingfisher sequel to What Moves the Dead. it wasn't as good as the first one but it was still pretty enjoyable horror
Started/Ongoing:
The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch, narrated by Michael Page so excited to be reading this for the sff bookclub. too clever for their own good con man scoundrels are a favored character type of mine
Invisible Kingdom, Vol. 1: Walking the Path written by G. Willow WIlson, art by Christian Ward scifi comic that looked cool! a comic book shop employee recommended it to a friend, and I remembered I'd seen it at my library so I picked it up to check out (gorgeous scifi art)
little warrior by kathkin on ao3 read the next chapter :)
chapter 9 of follow the sun by verdantstars on ao3 new chapter out of a fire emblem three houses fic i like!
DNFs:
The Collected Poems of Audre Lorde this is hopefully just a temporary dnf. it was due back at the library and i did not have time to finish reading it before then. with any luck I'll check it out again when i have a bit more poetry reading motivation
Ragnarok by A.S. Byatt, narrated by Harriet Walter
Portrait of a Thief by Grace D. Li, narrated by Eunice Wong and Austin Ku
Reading Plans:
obviously The Lies of Locke Lamora is on my reading plan list bc its the sff book club pick for september! and I'll be reading Sensor to keep up with Shelved by Genre
other books I have out from the library and want to try out but may not finish reading: Bloom Into You Vol. 2 by Nakatani Nio, The Sprite and the Gardener by Rii Abrego and Joe Whitt, Female Husbands: A Trans History by Jen Manion, narrated by Kate Harper, The River of Silver by S.A. Chakraborty, narrated by Soneela Nankani
and I want to read more of the books that exist on my physical bookshelves. some of that I've been doing by borrowing the audiobook versions of them (like Jonny Appleseed and System Collapse above) but others dont have that option

Genere: Darkromance, Thriller, mistery.
Autore: Penelope Douglas.
Spicy: 5/5.
Titolo: Corrupt.
Anno edizione:2023
Pagine: 448.
Note: Il libro in se mi è piaciuto molto, lo spicy è descritto alla perfezione; Devo ammettere che non sono i miei personaggi preferiti della devil's night, però questo è uno dei miglior libri in base alla scrittura.
Voto: 4/5.
Personaggi: Erika Fane, Michael Crist. Secondari: Damon Torrance, Kai Mori, Will Grayson.
Trama: “Si chiama Michael Crist.
