astoria can be seen in the common room besides a fireplace with a book, she spent majority of her life in busy wizarding hospitals around the world whilst her parents begged someone to fix her blood curse. she learnt to block out sounds from around her so the common room chatter doesn’t distract her, but silence… that does bother her. she hates it when theres nothing occupying her mind- if its quiet she has the space to think and if she thinks shes met with the impending doom of her death- though she has years before it comes to that every ticking moment feels wasted. so most nights astoria falls asleep with a book in her hand or the record player spinning and spinning with no sound.

she’ll read anything she can get her hands on, everyone thinks shes in her head but shes just as educated or probably even more so than anyone else. she’s the girl that debates with you in class about politics her views ‘left’ despite growing up in a pureblood household. she’ll fact correct you in the nicest way possible. she does pick her battles though knowing arguing with her grandparents isn’t appropriate, stuff like that.

she loves her family even though they’re overwhelming. she knows her condition makes her weak and susceptible to getting sick but is a weekly visit home and multiple owls really necessary? daphne, she adores and they do spend a-lot of time together. Astoria made a point to open herself up to new friends when she got to Hogwarts so Daphne didn’t feel the need to look after her there as well.

she watches love from afar and though she’d love to experience it she thinks its selfish to put someone through her predicament. she wouldnt be able to fully give herself to someone knowing… and though people have tried she smiles and shakes her head. shes grown accustomed to watching life happen without her in it until Draco.

Their first interaction left Draco a little taken back. Astorias calm but sharp demeanour slicing him in half as she told him off about using the phrase mudblood. He had never cared about what others thought before but he had just been told off by a girl, a girl that was two years younger than him in-front of his friends and peers. he was rendered speechless- embarrassed. He scoffed it off but spent the day wondering how to make himself look good in her eyes again which was honestly the start of it all.

1 - First Day of School

For a moment, she felt blind, the world around her dark and overstimulating as she keeled over onto her knees and struggled to ground herself while her other senses were being bombarded. There was shrill screaming in one ear and the sound of a large waterfall approaching the other. She could feel the heat of fire lick her hands, but her face was submerged in liquid. She could taste blood dripping into her silent gaping mouth from her face, but the smell of rich banquet food wafted to her nose and made her hungry. The hunger refused to settle though as she felt something curl around her hands, a desire growing within. Her eyes continued to fail her as the small scaly coil began to tighten against her fingers, restricting them yet filling her with a sense of power. Before she could react, agony gripped her with a sudden red flash of light, her scream finally resounding into the disturbed darkness.

Lorelei shot up in her bed, ripping the covers off as she sought the ground. She found it with a resounding thump, falling on her hands and knees against cold stone as she fought to catch her breath. Once her breathing was under control, she dared to open her eyes. She shouldn't have been surprised to see light and color peaking in, but the darkness she had just been surrounded by had her rattled. Her first nightmare at Hogwarts. Joy.

Once she was on her feet, she looked around the room to find it empty.

“Looks like everyone’s started their day. Better head to the common room and do the same,” she whispered to herself. Quickly getting ready for the day, she worked in front of a mirror on securing the framing locks that fell out of her braid before pausing. Her fingers trailed over her right cheek, feeling the grooves of the scar. Her mind flashed back to the moment it had appeared, the searing pain that had erupted from her eyebrow down her cheek and the blood she had tasted in her nightmare. Suddenly, she pulled her fingers away. Best not to dwell on the past, she reminded herself as she turned away and made her bed.

When she cautiously took her first steps out into the common room, she could feel the not-so-subtle stares bear into her as groups clumped closer to whisper about her. As she floated through the space, she met a few friendlier faces. Sebastian Sallow was a fascinating character to her. He bore a certain mischievous aura about him that piqued her interest, and it certainly helped that he seemed kind, charismatic, and easy on the eyes. Imelda Reyes was rougher around the edges, but seemed to be a good person to approach for an honest opinion or a challenge. Something about her made Lorelei think they would be either the best of friends or the worst of rivals, but she was curious to see how their relationship played out. Turning away from Imelda and the game of Wizard chess, Lorelei’s eyes landed on a window submerged underwater with students standing by the glass watching intently. The person who grabbed her attention, however, leaned on the column behind them, not glancing over at them but clearly listening in on them with interest. She approached them and quietly studied the scene.

“I-I think I heard one!” One of the students whispered loudly to the other excitedly. She scrunched her eyebrows together in confusion and watched as the boy chuckled to himself

“What are they looking for?” she asked him softly as to not startle him. He simply pushed himself off the pillar and took a few steps closer to her.

“Mermaids, though I doubt they find us that interesting. I’ve never heard of a mermaid showing up outside our common room window. It is fun to play along though. Been known to keep some first-years on the lookout for hours.” She tilted her head at him, amused.

“A prankster, are we?”

“Not at all,” he said innocently before letting a small but sly smile creep up his face. “But if someone is making a fool of themself, I can’t promise I won’t laugh. Based on all the chatter when you entered the common room, I’m guessing you’re the new fifth year. I’m Ominis, Ominis Gaunt.” She noted the way he still didn’t look directly at her despite a clear introduction, but brushed it off.

“Nice to meet you, Ominis. I’m Lorelei.” His lip curved slightly. Something about her name appealed to him.

“Well, Lorelei,” he casually tried it out on his tongue. “You certainly had a memorable arrival.” She could hear the playful timber of his voice and decided to act on it, not allowing her anxious to take root on the memories of dragon screeches.

“Well, if I’m going to make my mark here, I have to start right away.” He let out a laugh, appreciating her confidence and her wit.

“You’re definitely in the right house. Do let me know if I can be of any help as you navigate your first days here.” He finally turned his face towards her and she found herself staring into his eyes, surprised. “Though I doubt you’ll need it.”

“Thank you.” She continued to stare into his eyes, taken aback by the allure of the silver stormy swirls on the opaque icy blueness. Catching herself in her trance, she looked over at the first years again, shuffling through conversational topics. “Speaking of house, were you expecting to be sorted into Slytherin?” He let out a somewhat dry chuckle, distinct from the others. It was almost humorless, in her opinion.

“Most certainly. My family on my father’s side are direct descendants of Salazar Slytherin - one of the four founders of Hogwarts. Not something I’m especially proud of, mind you.” Lorelei couldn’t help but peer over at him again and watched the storminess grow in his eyes. “He was obsessed with blood status. A pure-blood maniac. Unfortunately, most of his descendants do not fall far from that tree.”

“Well, you seem alright, for a direct descendant of Slytherin who was sorted into his house, but I’ll reserve my final judgment till the end of the week.” A humored smirk crossed his face.

“Is that a compliment?”

“For now, yes.” He scoffed lightly, but the playful smirk never left his face, making Lorelei feel accomplished.

“Alright, well what about you? Were you surprised by your sorting?” Her wide toothed smile disappeared for a moment as she contemplated.

“Surprised is a strong word. I suppose I just never saw myself as a Slytherin,” she pondered aloud, careful to chose her words wisely. Ominis tilted his head in curiosity, still directly facing her as he did. He noticed.

“Well, what did you see yourself as?” Lorelei hesitated because she knew the answer, but didn’t want to say it aloud. Unfortunately, her mind didn’t hesitate to spew profanities. A squib. An outcast. An imposter. A waste of magical blood. What if they change their mind? The thought continued to swirl in her head mercilessly, only to be interrupted by the echo of a yell.

“Is the new fifth year here?” someone questioned from the other side of the common room. “Professor Weasley is waiting for you.” Thankfully, it was loud enough to reclaim her attention and pull her from her minor spiral, shaking the fear from her mind as she unfurled the fists she clenched. Best not to dwell on the past.

“You’ve been summoned.” Lorelei looked back at Ominis and could see the curiosity veiling concern on his expressive brow, the storm brewing once again.

“So it would seem,” she breathed before letting a small smile meet her lips. “It was very nice to meet you, Ominis.” He returned the small smile and offered her a nod.

“The pleasure was all mine, Lorelei. Don’t be a stranger.” With a nod of her own, she turned and started walking to the common room exit only to be intercepted by Imelda, who fell in step with her.

“Quite brave of you to approach Gaunt like that, Fifth Year. I’m surprised he offered you so much as a moment of his time for idle chatter.” Lorelei looked at her in surprise.

“Why do you say that? He was quite amenable. He even offered to help me navigate my first few days should I require assistance.” She let out a lofty snicker.

“The blind leading the blind? Ridiculous. You might be the only person I’ve ever heard refer to the Prince of Slytherin as ‘amenable.’ Even Sallow has enough sense to recognize Gaunt’s iciness.” Lorelei let out a huff and turned to Imelda, deciding to address the barely veiled insinuations head-on.

“What are you trying to say, Imelda?” The Slytherin girl gave her a sly smile as if relishing in Lorelei’s annoyance.

“You should be careful is all. Gaunt seems to have set his sights on you…or I suppose I should just say his attention considering he can’t see anything, much less you.” Lorelei tried to read her face for any indicator of bluff, something that made Imelda’s smirk grow. “Did you not notice? Perhaps you’re blind as well-”

“I’m not a fool. I had my suspicions." Liar. "Regardless, my first impression of him is that he is polite and courteous, and I am free to befriend whomever I wish. Now, thank you for your clearly well-placed concern,” she said with a tinge of sarcasm. “But I shouldn't make Professor Weasley wait any longer. See you around.”

Imelda stayed behind as Lorelei walked off confidently, whistling to herself as the new fifth year rounded the corner and disappeared from sight.

“She's got bite. I like that.” She felt a familiar presence draw near. “What are your thoughts, Gaunt?” she asked, not even bothering to look over her shoulder as she addressed him.

“I think you should leave her be for now and head out for the day like the rest of us.” Imelda raised an eyebrow as she watched him pass, the blind boy meeting with the freckled brunette who had spent his morning nose in a book by the fireplace before the pair set off.

“Hm. Interesting,” Imelda murmured to herself before following their lead.

Greengrass household

The Greengrass household is one of the households of the Sacred 28. It is an Ancient pureblood aristocratic household known for its strong connections to green magic and potions. Not only that, the Greengrasses run a large tea business, once one of the largest in the UK

Daphne and Astoria Greengrass are born to Hyperion Greengrass ( a British pureblood wizard who was once a hand to Voldermort ), and Svetlana Lebedeva ( a Russian freshwater veela who was a Koldovstoretz graduate and a former figure skating world champion ). Astoria's parents are amongst friends of Draco's parents, so it's natural for them to try help set up Draco with either of the Greengrass sisters when they got older

Although Draco and Daphne maintained a brother sister like relationship ( Draco is a big Daphne x Blaise shipper ), Draco came to have a soft spot for Astoria, gradually developing romantic feelings for her in his 7th year when Astoria was in her 5th. Unfortunately, a series of events in the Deathly Hollows ( combined with Astoria's parents tortured to death by Voldermort, and Daphne had to be sent to St Mungos Asylum due to going insane for months after she and Astoria were forced to witness the horrific deaths of their parents ), Astoria becomes more withdrawn at first due to intense grief. She is often seen figure skating and talking to swans, and a concerned Draco let her process her deep grief while helping her in any way he can

And then in the Battle of Hogwarts, Draco began looking frantically everywhere for Astoria, until he was told by Blaise that Astoria was taken to safety at the Slytherin Tower by some Slytherins in tow. And when Draco went to find her, they stayed their alone as Draco checked if Astoria is okay, and vice versa. After Voldermort was defeated, Daphne, Blaise and Draco's parents found them.

Draco and Astoria got together officially during the 1998 LA Wizolympics, soon after Astoria won her first Wizolympics figure skating medal.

Due to how Voldermort also burned down the Greengrass Tea headquarters in Buckinghamshire, the Greengrass Tea business have to move their headquarters to Paris, France. Daphne and Blaise moved to Paris to start anew, where they eventually founded their own Wizarding couture brand there, and the Greengrass Tea Inc was eventually taken over by a Greengrass cousin of Astoria's

As for Astoria, at first, she spent her last 2 Hogwarts years staying at the repairing Greengrass Mansion with her 2 best girlfriends, Tracey Davis and Millicent Bulstrode ( who got together ). Soon after Tracey Davis and Millicent moved to Rome after graduation, Draco moved into the Greengrass Manor with Astoria, eventually got married, and raised their son Scorpius in here. And Astoria went from figure skater to socialite/supermodel who also co runs the Malfoy Enterprises with Draco

While the Malfoys have a history of naming their children after constellations, the Greengrasses have a history of naming their children after plants. The traumatizing experiences Draco and Astoria been through also inspired to teach their son Scorpius to not have the pureblood supremacy beliefs that they were once taught, and Scorpius luckily doesn't have to be raised in an environment where he may become a Death Eater

I can’t wait to hear more about Letitia and the Greengrasses. I’m just curious, given her birthdate, wouldn’t Letitia be the sister of Daphne and Astoria’s great-grandfather instead of grandfather?

Letitia’s brother is a bit younger than her, having been born around 1910. Because of this, I’ve placed Astoria and Daphne’s father’s birthdate in 1956, so I couldn’t really add an extra generation between the two that would make Letitia’s brother the sisters’ great-grandfather. I could always change this, but this is how I’m gonna go with things for now.

With Astoria and Daphne’s father having been born in the year 1956, this puts him in the Black sisters’ generation, so I think it’s a decent enough timeline. If I stick to his date of birth, he’d only be around twenty-four when he had Daphne (who I assume was born in the early 1980s).

Astoria and Daphne’s grandfather would’ve had his son by the time he was forty-six, but I’m not that bothered by the age gap because people had kids well into their fifties in those days.

GINSTORIA!!! GINSTORIA!!!

Okay, so I was thinking about some Ginstoria fanfiction ideas. I imagine I would explore my thoughts on how pure-blood, traditionalist, and wealthy wizarding families work, how they place heavy expectations on their children, and how trapped those children, especially the girls, feel by the idea of marriage and motherhood.

Astoria grew up completely isolated with the modern Muggle world. Her family, like others around them, wore a blend of wizarding robes and classic Muggle clothing, styles from the Victorian, Edwardian, and Regency eras. She was raised completely oblivious to how the modern world worked.

When Astoria met Ginny at a Ministry of Magic event, she didn’t understand why her heart was beating so fast. For Astoria, it was normal to see straight couples fall in love, she had only ever been shown what her parents wanted her to see. She couldn’t interact with Ginny without feeling her cheeks flush, her heart pound, and butterflies stir in her stomach.

Astoria returned home confused—confused because she was feeling what people described as love. But she hadn’t expected to feel this way for another girl. She felt guilty for not meeting her parents’ expectations, for not falling in love with a proper pure-blood boy.

Over the years, Ginny would always talk to her during the few occasions they met. Sometimes, Ginny would bring her things Astoria had never seen before, a magazine, a record player…

Astoria’s heart would flutter every time an owl pecked at her window with a letter from Ginny. She always burned the letters afterward so her parents wouldn’t find them, but in every one of them, Astoria poured her heart out. Her words were poetic, full of emotion, shaped by the many books she read. Immaculate and untouched by profanity. Astoria wrote and spoke like she had stepped out of a novel, Ginny could read her letters and listen to her speak without ever getting tired.

One fateful day, Astoria managed to slip out of Greengrass Manor, where Ginny was waiting. They spent the night hiding in the vast, well-kept gardens. Astoria couldn’t find the words to describe what she felt when Ginny pressed her lips to hers. She only knew she wanted to live that moment again, and again.

It was a strange but beautiful scene, a girl who looked like she had stepped out of a time machine dressed in a long, white, frilled nightgown, kissing a classic 1990s teenager in jeans and sneakers.
