Do you know that Food cooked in clay pots is better for you According to Ayurveda “cooking in a clay pot not only has a variety of health benefits but also makes for an easier cooking process and in the end, a more flavorful and nutritious dish. Due to its numerous health benefits, Ayurveda suggests cooking in a clay pot. Cooking in a clay pot is much better than cooking in a normal utensil, not just for its various health benefits, but also makes it much simpler to cook and improves the quality of the food at the end. The porosity and natural insulation properties of clay causes heat and moisture to circulate throughout clay pots. This makes cooking in a clay pot a much slower process but has added benefit of preventing amateur cooks from burning their dishes. More importantly, this causes the moisture and nutrient loss while cooking in clay pots to be much lower compared to cooking in metal or enamel lined utensils.” The most compelling reason to start cooking in unglazed earthen pots comes from the one thing it doesn’t do—leach harmful metals into your food. Beyond being good for just you and your food, unglazed earthen pots hold a lot of promise for the environment. Because they essentially come from soil, they very readily decompose right back into it when you dispose of them, to be completely bio-degradable, unlike teflon pans and steel pots which take up space in Good will aisles or fill up landfills. When thinking about trying to be more eco friendly the work that needs to be done can appear overwhelming. Do you go plastic free? Zero waste? Install solar? Buy nothing new for a year? Change energy providers? Eat only organic? Eat vegan? Use a mooncup? Research family cloth? Where do you start? The not knowing can send us searching in circles for the perfect start point. The procrastination gremlins then start to invade your subconscious with questions such as... Is there any point if you're not planning on becoming a crunchy hippy living off grid and washing your undies in the river? (the answer is no) The point of this post isn't to give you that magical starting point but to give you permission to start anywhere. It honestly doesn't matter where - just BEGIN! Some simple suggestions (you've probably seen a million times) are - 🌱 take your own coffee mug, water bottle or shopping bags next time you're out and about. ♻️ use a reusable face mask and when your at home hankies rather than disposable tissues. 💚 share memes and posts that have eco tips such as this one. 🌳if it's safe to do so pick up the next piece of litter you see and either recycle or dispose of it. 🌿walk/cycle to the local shop, work or school rather than drive. Choose one and if that's all you are able to do then don't worry, you are still doing far more and far better than most. If you feel able to do more then do more. The main thing is don't stress about it, don't feel guilty, don't add trying to be more eco friendly to an already heavy to-do list. Yes the earth needs us all to be more eco conscious... But the world also needs you to take care of you too!
