Over land, Troy and Ithaca were only 1000 kilometers apart. Trained soldiers would have no problem marching 40 kilometers per day. even at a more sedate 30 kilometers per day, it would only take 34 days, and one short boat trip where land is always visible for Odysseus and his men to walk home. This is the much better option when one is cursed by the god of the seas.

The dissociation—Odysseus was in no shape to carry on. Jay didn’t even need to bring up anything abt s.a. that happened on the island—just a simple comparison between the behaviors of Odysseus when he arrived and that of Odysseus seven years later: just look what happened on this island that caused him to breakdown so thoroughly. This is so perfectly done.
