GOOD CASTING

GENRES: Comedy, Action

SUMMARY: Age has no meaning when you’re the best agents at the NIS.

THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Adorable children, tragic memories, organizational spies, international black market trading, secret cameras, entitled idols, priceless watches, arcade shooting, computer hacking, classical music, and keeping the country safe.

HOT TAKE: Although I found the action scenes pretty compelling and the characters pretty sweet I can't help but think that there's something missing to keep me from thinking this is a 'don't miss' show. Maybe it's the pacing?

I know most kdrama romances are flawed, but I feel like every person in this show would be better off with someone else. A one-sided student love? A negligent husband affection? A self-absorbed idol infatuation? Ladies, you are better than this.

This show sadly found itself in the same shameful position as 'Team Bulldog: Off-Duty Investigation' with a groan-worthy final scene of the primary characters triumphantly saying the name of the show together. Perhaps this is just a meta homage?

what people need to understand is that ariana grande is able to pull off every single one of galinda's physical gags because that woman was in the comedy trenches of nickelodeon's victorious and anyone who was forced to show feet in front of dan schneider is walking away with a level of commitment to the bit that human beings were not built to perceive

Expanding a thought from a conversation this morning:

In general, I think "Is X out-of-character?" is not a terribly useful question for a writer. It shuts down possibility, and interesting directions you could take a character.

A better question, I believe, is "What would it take for Character to do X?" What extremity would she find herself in, where X starts to look like a good idea? What loyalties or fears leave him with X as his only option? THAT'S where a potentially interesting story lies.

In practice, I find that you can often justify much more from a character than you initially dreamed you could: some of my best stories come from "What might drive Character to do [thing he would never do]?" As long as you make it clear to the reader what the hell pushed your character to this point, you've got the seed of a compelling story on your hands.
