Hey, I hope your day is going well. I just wanted to say that I really value your perspective on women-specific issues, especially as it relates to transgender people. I have begun doing my own digging/research into this growing trend and found it concerning and disturbing. I have spent the last chunk of time reading your long posts and opening up some JSTOR resources to read myself. I'd like to read more concrete, primary info about Hirschfeld and Gohr...whatever his last name was. Do you know where I could access that?

Hi - my apologies for what was likely a long delay, I have been on hiatus from Tumblr.

To be honest, surfing through research databases is probably your best bet, using their names plus any keywords you're wondering about. There is also a book published that at the very least mentions a bit about Hirschfeld - I haven't read it. It's called "Racism and the making of gay rights".

Something in addition to these men that I have found - even Dr. Hamburger, the sexologist who transitioned the first U.S. man (Christine Jorgeson) and fanned the flames in popularizing transsexual surgeries after he published 400 letters to his medical community (likely without the consent of the patients) by homosexual people asking to transition (and do keep in mind the 1950s was a severely homophobic time period), was also very much a eugenicist. He was also another sexologist performing "sex changes" in Germany.

Chrstine Jorgeson was a homosexual man who disavowed homosexuality due to his patriotism.

"A dual concern to cure the deviant individual and to protect society was echoed in the paper (“Transvestism”) which Jorgensen’s Danish clinicians, Drs. Christian Hamburger, Georg Stürup and Dahl-Iversen, wrote for the Journal of the American Medical Association in 1953. Preben Hertoft and Thorkil Sorensen who have studied the medical files and interviewed psychiatrist Dr. Georg Stürup claim that “the original intention of the medical team was not to change a man into a woman, but to help a man who suffered from his homosexual impulses” (167). Hamburger and his colleagues revealed their anxiety about homosexuality when they commented: “At any rate, from a eugenic point of view it would do no harm if a number of sexually abnormal men were castrated and thus deprived of their sexual libido.”"

This source also explains how the culture changed for the patients seeking these transsexual surgeries, too. Originally the trans patients (overwhelmingly male) still considered themselves as gay men and wanted to be considered as gay men - just simulating the appearance of a woman. It was in the 1960s or so that conservative doctors began pushing that they were never the sex they were born as to begin with because they believed it was the only way that this subset of patients would be able to live "fulfilling heterosexual lives".

im wondering about finns last name fflannidan. ive been pronouncing it "fuh-flan-ih-dan." was it a family name or a chosen one, is there a story?

Honestly when i made finn in 2017, my first ever dnd character, i think i found that name on some randomizer or something. i thought having finn and both his parents have F as their first and last initial would be fun, and extended it to fallon too when i made him in 2020. felix, their dad, was always heavily irish inspired, and it feels like one of those fantasy “close enough” twists to it. “flanagan” roughly means “blood red” which is interesting :) very interesting indeed

IN UNIVERSE, THOUGH… felix chose that first and last name, he just made em up. finn and fallon never knew their extended human family and never had a reason to question the legitimacy of their family name until the night their dad disappeared and their home burned down. in fact, it will probably take them a little while to find out their last name wasnt felix or faelwyns real family name, when someone else goes digging into their pasts and comes up empty handed.

i think it will be interesting in the comic as the twins are trying to get to the bottom of what happened and they struggle with this idea that the dad they knew their whole lives had this whole dark past felix and their two other parents, gohr and fae, shielded them from with false names and a peaceful existence. who was felix fflannidan before them? why did faelwyn keep secrets and continue not to them the truth even after he disappeared? is it worth lying to the parents they have left and putting themselves in harms way to find the truth? etc etc. i love them.

anyway sorry this is wordy, i love the fflannidans and their silly name. fae took felixs new fake last name too. honestly i think having the whole family have f names is a fun little dad joke on their part, lmfao. why not get silly with your new fake identity (which… becomes the new real you? hmm)

A Serra Catarinense será o centro das atenções do ciclismo mundial na próxima semana. De 3 a 5 de outubro, Urubici sediará três importantes eventos do calendário mundial de Ciclismo de Estrada.

O Gran Tour Ciclismo de Santa Catarina, o GP Urubici de Ciclismo e o GP Internacional de Ciclismo distribuirão pontos para o ranking da UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale), válidos para a classificação para as Olimpíadas de Paris, no próximo ano.

Catarinense André Gohr (centro) está confirmado nas disputas

“Recebemos com muita honra eventos de diversos âmbitos, mas certamente, estas provas internacionais de ciclismo contribuem ainda mais para impulsionar a economia e o turismo, colocando Urubici no cenário global da modalidade, atraindo atletas e visitantes de diversos países. E claro, sediar eventos desse nível, é uma oportunidade para os moradores de Urubici além de contribuir para o desenvolvimento do esporte na região, estimulando a prática do ciclismo e inspirando jovens a se tornarem atletas e se envolverem na modalidade, criando uma cultura esportiva mais ativa e saudável”, comenta a Prefeita de Urubici, Mariza Costa.

A programação das etapas começa na terça-feira (3), com o Gran Tour Ciclismo de Santa Catarina. Os atletas enfrentarão um percurso de 128,7 km na categoria masculina, enquanto as mulheres terão pela frente um trajeto de 111,5 km.

Na quarta-feira (4), será a vez do GP Urubici de Ciclismo, com provas de 79,7 km para os homens e 62,2 km para as mulheres. O GP Internacional de Ciclismo encerra a programação de eventos na quinta-feira (5), apresentando as provas mais longas: 169,4 km para os homens e 128,7 km para as mulheres.

Atletas de 10 países competirão em Urubici

No total, atletas de 10 países competirão na Serra Catarinense em busca de pontos e da premiação de R$ 65.000,00. Além da Seleção Brasileira da modalidade, estão confirmados ciclistas da Argentina, Bolívia, Colômbia, Estados Unidos, Panamá, Paraguai, Uruguai, Uzbequistão e Venezuela. Os três eventos têm classificação 1.2 e oferecem 40 pontos no ranking mundial.

Sete vezes campeão brasileiro, o catarinense André Gohr, de Brusque, estará nas disputas em Urubici. “Os eventos em Urubici serão extremamente importantes na busca pela vaga olímpica. Há muito tempo não tínhamos competições válidas pelo ranking mundial no Brasil, e ter a oportunidade de competir em provas desse nível em Santa Catarina é um privilégio. Ainda mais por se tratarem das últimas provas do ano, que somam pontos no ranking olímpico”, comenta.

Melhor brasileiro no ranking mundial 2021/2022, ele comenta ainda sobre a preparação para os eventos. “Minha expectativa é muito boa. Realizei um training camp de um mês na Colômbia, onde treinei em altitude, com foco nessas provas. Sinto-me muito bem e motivado, em uma forma física excelente. Espero poder disputar a vitória nesses três dias de provas e acumular pontos em busca da vaga olímpica”, encerra o catarinense.

O Gran Tour Ciclismo de Santa Catarina, GP Urubici de Ciclismo e GP Internacional de Ciclismo são válidos pelo calendário da UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale). A organização é da CBC (Confederação Brasileira de Ciclismo) em parceria com a FCF (Federação Catarinense de Ciclismo) e AACESC.

So, let me see if I understand the argument here.

You're saying that because a minority of Zionist Jews managed to get 60,000 Jews out of Germany, and the Nazis wanted Jews out of the country, "Zionists collaborated with Nazis." And therefore, "Zionism" is evil, and Israel is evil.

The United States took in more Jews than that during the 1930s: about 100,000.

Why does this not mean that the United States "collaborated with the Nazis" and is inherently evil?

Why does this not mean that Jews stole Americans' land?

Or Native Americans' land?

Was the moral position actually for everybody to demand that German Jews fight the Nazis alone?

You're genuinely arguing that Jews fleeing a fascist dictatorship, which had stripped them of their rights, livelihoods, and savings, and was going to kill them, were actually running to "go steal other people's land."

The fact that so many non-Jews have seized on the "Haavara argument" as some kind of "Israel is the Nazis" nonsense is so embarrassing for you, I can hardly articulate it.

The Nazis were going to kill all of the Jews. This was already obvious to many Jews, forcing people like Hermann Gohring to publicly deny it as early as 1932.

From 1933-1935 alone, the Nazis stripped German citizenship from all German Jews and made it illegal to hire them for most jobs. They weren't even allowed to do farming. And one of the Nazis' first acts was to create a nationwide boycott of Jewish businesses. The Nazis systematically destroyed Jewish economic life in Germany.

The Jewish population in Germany went from 525,000 in 1933 to 215,000 in 1939. And a LOT of those Jews fled to nearby countries where the Nazis would later invade and murder them anyway.

The 304,000 Jews who managed to flee had to hand over most of their money and property to the Nazis in order to leave.

(Which then inspired a lot of countries across the Middle East and North Africa to do the same: legislate their Jews out of existence, encourage widespread antisemitic violence, and require them to hand everything over to the government if they wanted to flee. This went on throughout the 40s and 50s, and really, as long as it took. Today, November 30, is Jewish Refugee Day in honor of that.)

And against this level of societal, legal, and military power, BEFORE any Jews fled, the Jewish population of Germany was about 0.77% of the country.

Less than one percent of the German population.

You're saying that German Jews should have stayed and fought.

But you would not have fought for us.

They had to find a country that would take them, which was almost impossible because of both antisemitism and the Great Depression. A lot of the ones who left fled to nearby countries like France and Italy, where they ended up being rounded up and murdered by the Nazis anyway.

There was even a global conference about it in 1938 (the Evian Conference) at which fucking nobody except the Dominican Republic would agree to take in any extra Jews.

The Nazi Party had been absolutely clear about its principles since it was first formed:

In their 25-point party program published in 1920, Nazi Party members publicly declared their intention to segregate Jews from “Aryan” society and to abrogate their political, legal, and civil rights.

In 1933, the Nazis took power in Germany:

Once in power, Hitler moved quickly to end German democracy.

He convinced his cabinet to invoke emergency clauses of the constitution that permitted the suspension of individual freedoms of press, speech, and assembly.

Special security forces — the Gestapo, the Storm Troopers (SA), and the SS — murdered or arrested leaders of opposition political parties (Communists, socialists, and liberals).

The Enabling Act of March 23, 1933 — forced through the Reichstag already purged of many political opponents –gave dictatorial powers to Hitler.

Before the Nazis took power, there had been 525,000 Jews in Germany.

They started fleeing ASAP.

As the Jewish Telegraphic Agency wrote:

...the entire internal policy of Germany is to be controlled by Nazis who are firm believers in violence against the Jews.

Only yesterday, Paul Josef Goebbels, head of the Nazi party in Berlin announced a bloodless pogrom against the Jews to expel Jews from employment in government office and from the economic life of the country.

This he proposes to accomplish by heavy taxation on Jewish enterprises and by influencing the courts to prosecute the Jews individually and collectively to prevent them from conducting any inner Jewish activities.

...[Goering] made it clear [in 1932] that the Nazis would tolerate no equality rights for the Jews whom he charged with being a "disruptive and poisonous element which has brought harm to the German people."

Although he denied that the Nazis plan to murder the Jews... he emphasized that the Jews would be suffered to remain in the country as aliens only.

The Nazis spent the next six years making life unlivable for Jews.

1933: Jewish immigrants were stripped of their naturalization and/or citizenship. Jews could no longer get jobs in government/public service, journalism, or the radio. Jews were no longer allowed to farm.

1934: Jews were no longer allowed to work in stock exchanges or as stock brokers.

1935: The Nuremberg Laws are passed, completing the plan. All German Jews are stripped of their citizenship. Sex and marriage with Jews is now illegal for all German citizens. The German flag becomes the swastika. Jews are banned from flying it.

By 1938, Hitler was saying these laws had been "too humane."

But even at the time, the Nazi Party had made it clear that this was just the start: that if essentially removing Jews from German society did not magically lead to a healthy, functional, Aryan Germany, they would need to revisit the issue.

The fundamental core tenet of Nazi antisemitism was that Jews needed to be removed from Germany. The idea of a Jew-free state is of course easier said than done....

The Germans also created a problem in that the Reichsfluchtsteuer (Reich Flight Tax) had been transformed under the Nazis into a mechanism to fleece German Jews emigrating of a good deal of their worldly possessions.

While there were quite a few German Jews who left Germany in 1933, these domestic and international factors encouraged some German Jews to hunker down and wait Hitler out.

In other words, Jews were being forced into exile, and Germany would only let them leave if they handed over their money and property on the way out.

If you've ever heard stories of Jewish refugees immigrating with their money sewn into the hems or linings of their coats, or people having their Jewish grandmother's wedding ring because she had hidden it inside her false teeth when she fled, that's why.

This is something that happened over and over and over and over again during and after the Nazis, because the Nazis had worked so hard to spread their influence and propaganda across the world.

Almost every country in the Middle East and North Africa had had a large Jewish population that went back thousands of years.

The departure of Jewish citizens was desired and permitted by the Nazi government – even after the Invasion of Poland – until a decree from Heinrich Himmler forbade Jewish emigration on 23 October 1941.

In 1941, the Nazis put the Final Solution into action.

The Final Solution, killing every Jew on earth, was their attempt to "solve" the "Jewish Problem" facing the world.

The "Jewish Problem" was that Jews existed.

(Or, as people following in their footsteps later would put it:

"Our struggle against the Jews is very great and very serious.… It is a step that inevitably should be followed by other steps.

"...For a long time, the enemies have been planning, skillfully and with precision, for the achievement of what they have attained. They took into consideration the causes affecting the current of events.

"They strived to amass great and substantive material wealth which they devoted to the realization of their dream.

"With their money, they took control of the world media, news agencies, the press, publishing houses, broadcasting stations, and others.

"With their money they stirred revolutions in various parts of the world with the purpose of achieving their interests and reaping the fruit therein. They were behind the French Revolution, the Communist revolution and most of the revolutions we heard and hear about, here and there....

"With their money they were able to control imperialistic countries and instigate them to colonize many countries in order to enable them to exploit their resources and spread corruption there....

Blizzard says that overall it is “quite happy with the performance of our classes,” but that Diablo 4 patch notes 1.0.2d aim to rebalance some classes to make their builds fairer, with buffs to abilities and nerfs to Paragon Glyphs coming into effect to help balance everything out. All of you with a Diablo 4 Necromancer build are going to love this, as there are quite a few buffs here. “We generally want to avoid creating situations where players can survive unreasonably high amounts of damage for long periods of time because it too greatly warps our vision for how combat should be in Diablo 4,” Blizzard says, which explains why so many nerfs have come into play. The Diablo 4 Barbarian has also seen the Gohr’s Devastating Grips unique item come back after Blizzard disabled it due to it being, well, just too good at just demolishing enemy packs. The Diablo 4 Stolen Artifice quest is also disabled until the next hotfix, so you won’t be able to complete the Scosglen zone until it’s ready. Barbarian Skill Changes Challenging Shout - Damage Reduction gained from Skill Ranks reduced from 4% to 2% Legendary Aspect Changes Bold Chieftain’s Aspect - Cooldown reduction per Nearby enemy reduced from 2.7-5.4 seconds to 1.0-1.9 seconds. - Maximum Cooldown reduction from 12 to 6 seconds. It WAS a hand. A hand flailing about like it was trying to grab onto something. Immediately, she reached for her stake, thinking it was a vampire. But, the memory of the blue eyes flashed in her mind. Spike! He WAS alive. Wait...It was still light out and too early for vampires to come out. Besides, he was ashes now. Wishful thinking. She shook her head and brought herself back to reality.

Who or what did this hand belong to? Was it an actual person? That happened sometimes. Maybe it was a humanoid demon. Either way, Buffy had two choices: save whoever or whatever the hand was attached to or go back up with Faith and the other slayers and go home, completely ignoring the hand. Option A won. She walked over to the hand and grabbed it with her own. Then, she stood up and started to pull. Whatever came out of there, she'd figure out how to deal with it once it came out of the ground.

It had been three days since the First was "scrunched" as Willow put it, but Buffy kept having these visions about monsters flocking to it and coming out of the ground. On top of that, she kept seeing these blue eyes. She wasn't sure who they belonged to in the vision, but she knew someone who had blue eyes. Obviously, the Hellmouth was still active even though it was "closed for business," but did this mean that Spike was alive and trapped there? After talking to the Scoobies and newly awoken slayers, they all went back to the giant hole in the ground that used to be Sunnydale.

She was partially right. There were some daytime demons milling about. Nothing major, but still bad and still needing to be killed. She didn't need any vampires or other demons migrating to Monterey. That town already had monsters of all kinds. No need to double it.

At sunset, after a full day of fighting and being covered in dead demon goo, Faith told Buffy that they should go home. Buffy agreed and had Faith go up first with the other slayers following. Buffy stayed behind making sure everyone got up before she did. She'd been thinking about the blue eyes all day, looking for them, looking for Spike, but there was no sign of them or him. Buffy's eyes stung with tears and chastised herself for being so naive. Spike burned from the inside out. He was ashes that were long buried. Buffy's thoughts were interrupted when she felt something grab her ankle. She shrieked and jumped a few feet away, then looked down to see what had grabbed her....was that.....a hand?
