You’re telling me that James didn’t love Lily and Harry enough to evoke the ancient love magic that Lily saved Harry with?

Mr. “Had an ego the size of a lake but a heart to match it?”

He loved both of them so much that he literally died trying to give them a chance to escape and that wasn’t enough?

I don’t buy it.

The only semi-logical explanation I can come up with is that he didn’t have his wand and maybe you can’t do something like that wand-less but did Lily have her wand?

Even then we’re talking about a guy who literally became an illegal animagus at the ripe age of 15.

He also loves and cares for people so deeply and it was LOVE MAGIC.

Look me in the eyes and tell me James Potter couldn’t have just saved BOTH of them without his wand.

Exactly, you can’t.

Honestly I could go on about all of the reasons James and Lily dying didn’t even make sense.

This is just another thing that makes me question why they died the way they did.

Them dying on an order mission would’ve been more realistic. There were just too many plot holes in them dying in Godric’s Hollow.

In conclusion, the ending of the first war didn’t make sense. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

Guys this post is not that serious I just mean that everything about what happened that night and the explanation for all of it felt like a stretch and kinda vague to me 😭

Even with the stuff about James not having a choice. Like yeah Voldemort didn’t verbally give him the option to back off but James still made the choice to try and hold him off.

Also James was a Pureblood and Voldemort made it known that he would spare them if they didn’t fight him because his whole thing was blood purity.

So like the “Lily was given a choice” still feels so vague to me.

Also Voldemort making the promise to Snape feels weird. Snape asked him not to kill Lily but Voldemort said that he wouldn’t as long as she didn’t get in his way. And Lily did get in his way of killing Harry so he didn’t break that promise by killing her.

Yeah he probably could’ve just knocked her out or something but he still didn’t break any promises.

And the whole reason Snape joined Dumbledore before the end of the first war is because he didn’t think Lily would just let Voldemort kill her son. He didn’t make an unbreakable vow or anything so Snape knew that Voldemort would probably kill Lily.

Diwali being on the same day as Halloween (aka the death of James and Lily Potter) keeps reminding me of this headcanon of Desi James.

Desi James who introduced his friends to some Hindi festivities like Diwali.

James who does not have any siblings but on the last day of Diwali, just 2 days before his death he explains Raksha Badan to Sirius. And that it used to be for sisters and brothers, when one of them left the family and got married but Sirius is his brother and James is now married to Lily so they don't see each other much anymore. So in modern interpretations you can give a Rakhi to anyone in your family, anyone you consider a true brother.

So James gives Sirius a Rakhi, binds it around his wrist, telling him all of this. And Sirius does not even know how to respond, his love for this man is huge, he is the best brother he could ever ask for. So the next day, even though it is not Raksha Badan anymore, Sirius gets James a Rakhi, to show him that he sees things the same way. James is touched, he had never received one before and promises to cheerish it.

And then, the next day, Halloween. Voldemort arrives. James and Lily Potter have been betrayed. And during his last moments James looks at his Rakhi, remembering Sirius, knowing that he never would've done this.

Sirius keeps his Rakhi on, until they take it off of him in Azkaban. It is the one thing he fights most for.

Sparkling swirls of snow sauntered sleepily from the high heavens on a slow moving and homely day in Godric's Hollow. Rich shades of green were the only things peeking from behind the porcelain drape that iced the village like a perfectly piped cupcake you'd see on display at Madame Puddifoot's. With the view blanched of colour, the evergreen trees winded and curved in an even more whimsical way than usual, their frosted tips left undisturbed.

Tucked away, nice and toasty in her small cottage, resided y/n, whose eyes only peeled away from the ivory landscape to count her stitches or swim over the rather fluffy cat curled up next to her.

The occupied lady sat comfortably surrounded by a mountain of different yarn. Autumnal colours scattered against the winterous backdrop in the form of woolly bundles in every thickness, length and texture anyone could dream. Her shaggy companion could only agree, having chased, batted and launched on multiple balls of the stuff.

"Nearly dooone...", working away busily, her tongue poked out the corner of her mouth with concentration as each stitch twirled from her wooden crochet hooks.

"Annnd VOILA!", she smiled triumphantly, "One crochet hat and one scarf to match".

With her attention not leaving the hand-crafted garments all afternoon, she greeted the evening unexpectedly and with a face of shock as instead of seeing neat, snow-dressed houses and luscious nature as she peeked out the living room window, she laid her gaze on her own tired expression and a darkened sky.

"What do you think, pumpkin?", she keenly asked the orange cat waking slowly from it's slumber. He jumped down from the cushion he was cuddled up on and strutted over, inspecting her handiwork with a sniff. Dismissing it and deemed uninterested, he spotted a ball of yarn hiding under the settee and pounced towards it.

"Fine, I'll take that as a sign you want your hat in that colour?", Y/n giggled imagining the tabby wrapped cutely like a present in the garish purple fibre.

Abruptly, the crunch of freshly trodden snow became louder as the soggy footsteps lead to the front door.

"Quick!", she dashed the yarn behind the velvet, embroidered cushions that lined the furniture and even up her jumper, fighting the feline for the last one.

"Remus", she smile overcompensatingly, "you're back", perching herself casually on the seat, conveniently hiding her afternoons work behind her.

The lanky man ducked through the uneven door, his nose as red as a strawberry from the biting weather, and his scar-scattered cheeks painted with blush. Gleaming, blue-tinged snowflakes dotted his hair like the aging of old parchment, as gusts of wintery breeze followed him in.

"Crikey, it's cold out there", he mumbled, removing his long length coat and rubbing his hands together to warm them, after slamming the door firmly shut. He brushed the residual snow from his beige, tweed waistcoat, and trousers to match, smoothing the creased and wet sleeves of his white shirt and tugging on his dark tie to loosen it.

"Funny you should say that", she smirked.

He looked over at her from his hunched form, raising his eyebrow, "It is, is it?"

"Stand over there and close your eyes", y/n pointed to the centre of the room.

"Love, I've just got back-", the working man tried to protest.

She pouted at him, "Please"

He narrowed his eyes with curiosity, and silently did as he was told.

"Eyes are closed... and suspicions are high", he whispered the last part, lolling about as he stood there, arms by his side, slowly regaining the feeling in his numbed hands and feet.

"Okay now wait, don't look", she scrambled about, running up the stairs and throwing the excess balls of yarn on her bed, before running back down and grabbing his present that was hiding right under his nose.

"I'm not looking because I trust you, but if you fly down those bloody stairs again from wearing those fluffy socks-"

"Shhh shh", she smiled at his chilly face and placed the hat she made over his messy locks, the comfort of the wool softening his features, before draping the matching scarf around his neck sweetly.

She kissed his cheek, "Okay handsome, all done", she burst out giggling when he opened his eyes.

He brought his hands up to his hat, feeling it before peering down at the scarf, "Darling, did you make this?"

She nodded, clasping her hands together behind her back.

"C'mere you", Remus expertly pulled her onto his frame, kissed her forehead and embraced her, "I love it, thank you", he uttered placing his hands either side of her arms now, tilting his head down to her and making sure she absorbs his words.

Y/n eyed up how the hat looked, "Atleast they fit this time", she bit her lip with an oops expression, "Not like those socks I made last year."

He chuckled at the memory, softening his gaze onto hers, "Nothing a little magic couldn't fix eh?", he winked.

His girlfriend frowned playfully, "I want magic powers", she grinned grazing her fingertips over the fabric of his back pocket where his wand was, her chin pressed against his chest as she stared up at him like a baby penguin.

"No, you're perfect as you are", he leant to kiss her delicate lips, and soothed his hand over her mane of locks. His eyes fluttered shut on their own accord, melting into the heaven that was her touch.

James's Wand

Friendly reminder that James used his wand to entertain baby Harry and left it on the couch when Voldemort came. Therefore, he had no chance of survival at all.

on god gay people are fucking crazy, dumbledore and grindelwald knew each other for TWO (2) MONTHS, only two months and already they came up with a plan for the new order etc, made that blood pact and what not,,, likeee thats not even a situationship, its barely a crush and youre doing that huh 😃😃 HUHH

So this afternoon I am obsessing about the Potter's deaths, Peter's betrayal... All thanks to Tumblr because I am nowhere near this event in my writing. BUT I had an epiphany or maybe I am just way late on the train... Why did Lily or James not act as their own families secret keeper???

I've put about fifteen minutes of intense thought into it, and asked my partner his thoughts. And before I put in too much brain energy I thought I'd try the community for input.

I always believe if I am asking the question the characters would or should because they are smarter about their lives and magic than I am. I love to incorporate their thought processes into my writing.

On the most basic level, I cannot see any logistical reason why this could not have occured. It isn't like a secret keeper is unable to access the secret. Dumbledore visits Grimmauld Place when he is secret keeper for the Order. To me this means there was some other reason... Because if they were really that concerned about spies and Voldemort coming after their known group of friends as likely secret keepers, keeping it to just the two of them sure makes the most sense.

I am also under the impression that canon wise the charm was performed within about a week of October 31. But that they had been 'in hiding' for a bit before that... Any thoughts on this would also be welcome.
