#God of Dreams Grimm AU

Some sketches of my new AU: God of Dreams Grimm and small story underneath. You can also ask him if you wanna ✌️ askbox is opened. I will be glad to see your feedback too 🫣

From the very beginning of Dreams there was a moth God with ironic name and kindest heart ever. He liked creating Dreams and helping bugs: he sent answers and blessings, love and cherish to everyone in need. He has no tribe of his yet all the Kingdom loved him.

One day he was on the stroll as usual and saw something wicked and weird, malicious even. It was Heart, small patch-worked Heart who made tiny beating sounds. Yet, Grimm had no reasons to be afraid. He didn't knew that some of visitors of his sweet beloved realm could be like this Heart. It squeaked quietly when Grimm took it and said:

"Please, help me! I'm dying!".

Grimm wasn't sure what to do. He wanted to help but haunting feeling... It was almost unbearable. He stroked the Heart to calm it down and said:

"What can I do for you?".

He thought it needs solace or wants to make a small confession before leaving. Yet it had something to surprise Grimm. It whispered sharply:

"I need you, Dreamwalker deity. Your very body, your bare soul. I need you thoroughly".

Grimm got scared. He tried to drop the Heart but it completely stuck to his hands. Bright flames of pure hatred and pain embraced the moth and devoured him in no time. From the ashes new Grimm was born.

No kind, no compassionate, no free anymore. He turned into Hearts servant, scaring away all bugs that knew him and adored him. He turned completely alone, abandoned by every single his follower. Even nowadays there's legends across the bugkind about scary Nightmare King, who turns simpletons into their servants and makes them forgetting about everything they know and love.

Yet, there's one more legend. The Pale light could purify his malicious soul and give him solace, which he was seeking for centuries.

Grimm, once known as The Nightmare, was one of the two children of The Dream Lord, born soon before their father perished in a fight against The Shade Lord. As his final wish, they both inherited an equal chunk of his realm and were meant to rule it together. Grimm's sister, The Radiance was tasked with watching over the mortals’ dreams and be their guiding light in hopeless situations. The Nightmare’s role was to guard the mortals’ nightmares and help them overcome their fears.

Grimm was always the more rebellious of the two siblings. He would frequently pull pranks on his sister, and it was clear that he wasn't as interested in the godly matters as she was. But more than anything, he was naive. As he grew up, he believed he could leave Godhome to mingle with the mortals with no consequences, and he ignored the growing tension between him and The Radiance. As time went on, the two siblings grew more and more distant. The Radiance was dedicated to fulfilling her father’s wishes and preserving his legacy, while The Nightmare spent most of his time away from Godhome. While he did his duties and watched over their nightmares, he held no attachment to his father’s legacy, which infuriated The Radiance. She saw him as unworthy of the power given to them, and he responded to it with annoyance. He would continue with his mortal plane activities, seeing it as his playground.

The Radiance, on the other hand, was obsessed with living up to her father's legacy. She saw the old ways of the gods as the correct one, and thus she never created a physical form for herself. Her obsession eventually turned into paranoia, and she saw every disagreement with her brother as a sign that he may be conspiring against her.

Their disagreement culminated after The Radiance created the Moth Tribe - a tribe of bugs who would serve as her main way of reaching the mortals, capable of entering the Dream Realm with the use of a dream nail. To get back at his sister, Grimm decided to disturb the tribe, often interrupting their rituals and even inciting them to rebel against her and her stuck up ways. In his eyes, this was nothing more than a mere prank, he could not care less whether they would remain loyal to her. Unfortunately, as a result, some of them started doubting their creator, which infuriated The Radiance. She found out about her brother's scheming, and after he returned to Godhome, she attacked him without giving him a chance to explain himself, seeing his actions as a direct threat to her authority, and even as an attempt at obtaining complete power over their realm. Ultimately, Grimm lost the battle, caught off-guard by her sudden aggression, and was subsequently banished from Godhome and trapped him in his Nightmare Realm, now separated from Godhome.

Years passed, and The Radiance's influence over the mortals of Hallownest weakened. As it turned out, they were more drawn to beings they could actually see and touch, and by the time she realized her mistake, they all turned from her in favor of the two new rulers of Hallownest, The Pale King and The White Lady. Blinded by her rage and the fear of being forgotten, she retaliated with the terrible infection: a deadly mutation of the dream essence, which took over the minds of those affected and made them susceptible to her voice. Her rampage was temporarily halted by The Pale King, whose Pure Vessel absorbed the infection. Unfortunately, this solution did not last, and she eventually broke down the vessel to the point where they could not contain the infection anymore. Years later, she was defeated by another of Vyrm's offsprings, Ghost of Hallownest, who united the void to form The Shade Lord, ascended Godhome and overpowered her, ending the infection for good.

While Grimm eventually found a way to walk the mortal world with a physical body, his godly form remains in the Nightmare Tealm. The Radiance's eventual death squandered his only chance at reversing the seal which keeps him trapped, though with his new life in the mortal world, he does not care for it. His sister, meanwhile, will be remembered as a ruthless, self-absorbed god who met her end at the hands of the same being that once destroyed her father.

Instead of doing another redesign, I decided to extend on my own AU with the final form of the Nightmare King. This is the Nightmare God, the most powerful form of the Nightmare King. Basically in my AU, the Nightmare King consumes the Void after the Knight defeats him in the dream realm. Having no power left to take on his mortal Grimm form, He crawls his way to safety in the Ancient Basin, eventually falling down into the Abyss, where he becomes one with the Void. The nightmare flames of his form fused with the Void, giving him limitless power.

Like the Radiance and the Pale King, the Nightmare God is a Higher Being, almost the same as a Pale Being. But instead of being a Pale Being, the Nightmare God is an Infernal Being, a creature born of flames, void, and sin. They cannot die, but in exchange for their immortality, they lose their mind. Much like the Vessels, Infernal Beings have no true will, other than their innate hunger for the souls of bugs and the scarlet nightmare flames.

I quite like writing my own lore! It gives me the opportunity to experiment with designs and characters that already exist. I feel as if my series of redesigns have improved how I approach character designs.

Once again, I was inspired to write for @the-artist-grimm and her wonderful Crimson Angel AU. The song is 'Infinity' by Jaymes Young.

Narinder was watching his spouse, well, wife as she talked to Nona. He thought back to when he had watched her dancing in a field of dandelions and camellias. Back before he was freed. His heart warned when he remembered she had been singing about him. How she dreamed of being by his side and wished upon the flying dandelion seeds to send her message to him. Sometimes he wondered if things would have happened differently had he not jumped to conclusions. He knew that whatever it could have been, wasn't here now and instead he got something much better in his opinion. He married his lamb. His love. His life. His everything. He was determined to make sure she knew she was loved, wanted, desired even. That it was okay to be selfish and dream for herself. He wanted to lift her higher than he had ever been able to go. 

He quietly follows his beautiful lamb towards their home as the evening began to fall. They enter the quiet home. Quiet only because their kits were spending the night with Anthea's fathers, giving the two of them a bit of time to be together. Before Anthea could speak up and ask what he wanted to eat or do, Narinder, who didn't sing very often, opened his mouth. “Baby, this love. I'll never let it die. Can't be touched by no one. I'd like to see 'em try.” The lamb pauses and turns to look at her husband in curiosity, eyes holding a bit of a sparkle at hearing him sing. 

The ex-God smiles warmly at her and walks closer. “I'm a mad man for your touch, girl, I've lost control. I'm gonna make this last forever, don't tell me it's impossible.” He sings lowly, reaching out to take her hand and kisses her palm, his eyes meeting hers to exchange his sincerity. “'Cause I love you for infinity. I love you for infinity. 'Cause I love you for infinity. I love you for infinity.” 

Narinder could hear her breath catching at everything he was doing and begins to purr softly in joy. He leans in, laying her hand in his chest, just above his heart. “Oh, darling, my soul– You know it aches for yours. And you've been filling this hole Since you were born.” The cat’s heart flutters at his own thoughts being voiced aloud, knowing she could feel it. He smiles softly at the adorable blush forming on her cheeks. He kneels down and gently lays her hands around his throat. 

“Oh. 'Cause you're the reason I believe in fate, you're my paradise. And I'll do anything to be your love, I'll be your sacrifice.” He watches Anthea's eyes widen more, becoming slightly wet at his declaration. The cat knew those words would hit hard due to the past, but nonetheless, he meant every word. How could he not. Here he was, bowing before the most beautiful creature he has ever laid eyes on in his entire life, knowing full well his life, heart, body and soul all belonged to the God before him. “'Cause I love you for infinity. I love you for infinity. 'Cause I love you for infinity. I love you for infinity.”

Narinder stands when he feels Anthea lightly tug on him, pulling her into his arms and holds her close. He lays their foreheads together as they began to sway and he lets out a soft purr. “Meet me at the bottom of the ocean Where the time is frozen. Where all the universes open. Love isn't random, we are chosen.” The cat smiles softly, tail hooking at hearing his small wife let out a soft chuckle. He opens his eyes to look into Anthea's as he continues his song. “And we could wear the same crown. Keep slowin' your heart down. We are the gods now.” 

He enjoys the pregnant pause as he listens to his Lamb's hitched breaths. He lays a hand on her cheek and tenderly wipes her tears away. A softly finishes his song. “'Cause I love you for infinity. I love you for infinity. 'Cause I love you for infinity. I love you for infinity.” 

He leans in and kisses his wife as he finishes, pulling her close as his heart soars with love.

Ahhh, first post…

And it’s about my Hollow Knight AU!

I came up with this au a few months ago, but I’ve only recently started figuring shit out for it.

I’ve been calling it the “Sealed King” au, or more affectionally, the “Pale fuck suffers” au.

It’s a simple concept, but i have a habit of over complicating and over-explaining.

The basic beginning of this au is actually just an early infection au. The Radiance halfway infects Hollow, just enough that She can control them. PK makes the choice to seal them ASAP despite knowing they would inevitably fail (after all, as far as he knows the rest of the vessels are stuck in the abyss, so he doesn’t have much of a choice).

Everything is quiet for a bit, but eventually new cases of the infection are reported, and what remains of Hallownest is in a panic. PK decides to seal himself in place of Hollow, which traps both him and Hollow (who the Radiance releases once she has PK) in the temple. I imagine that PK would be able to hold Radi back a little better than Hollow, he is a god with some power over the dream realm after all.

That’s my simplified idea of how this all starts. How it ends, well, I’m mostly using Godhome endings for this so both Hollow and PK live in the end.

I like the idea that everyone tries to rebuild once the infection is gone, so that could affect how everything ends, due to the king being back and all.

(I also enjoy the hc that Grimm and Radi are sibling gods (due to the both being gods/vessels of gods that reside in the dream realm) and that Grimm liked to mess with PK when Hallownest was still thriving, so those are additional little story details!)

Prismatic Rose AU (RWBY)

The poll chain is getting a little long and convoluted, so I created a new blog to hold everything.

The polls won't be a single answer. Instead I'll try to work all of the answers together, based off the number of votes each answer gets. If I can, of course.

Aura is present, but is more like DBZ power levels than how it functions in RWBY. A shot to the heart will be as fatal to a Human Huntsman as it would be to anyone else.

Firearms are regular firearms. Dust is instead used to craft weapons, like is alluded to by Ironwood, but never actually seen in the story.

Conclusions:

Jaune Arc

Humble Everydude

Jaune picks up a Broken Sword, his power repairs his sword, can generate a shield, and armour.

When depressed or in a deep fury his sword stays broken, and his armour is rusted. He is nearly invincible, but lacks any real control.

When happy, he literally glows from the light he emits.

Later learns to use and even combine both.

Attacked by Grimm, saved by Ruby. The Grimm was a Gryphon and a number of Beowulves.

Genre: Dark Souls

Ruby Rose

Werewolf: She learns to control her Human / Wolf forms.

Eventually unlocks a middle Wolfen form.

Silver Eyes: Her silver eyes are part of her Werewolf curse, from her connection to the moon. Eventually allows her to dispel darkness and inflict Lunacy.

Strongly dislikes bright sunlight, finding it oppressive. Will hide under her red hood in bright daylight.

Dislikes sitting around and doing nothing. As she learns to open up to her friends, hanging with them counts as doing something.

Dame Sister of the Order of the Sanguine Rose. Still a Novice, (no oath), but she was a Squire, and got her Accolade because of being a natural when fighting the forces of darkness.

Werewolves are normally turned over to the Church. Faith in God is the best way to gain control of their powers. Others can do so by living with wolf packs in the wilds, though they are rarely trusted.

Regeneration: Turned off with Silver, Fire, and direct sunlight. Indirect sunlight dims it. She's mostly fine in her cloak and hood, but better a night.

Extremely high metabolism. She can get blood thirsty if she doesn't eat, but sugar works extremely well. I.e. cookies are MANDATORY.

Pain causes her rage to ignite.

Shield of Faith and Miracle Die: 40K SoB reference. I'll explain if anyone asks.

Powered armour powered by prismatic energies. Summoned with transformation sequence. The catalyst for the transformation is a crescent moon broach with a deep red ruby.

Any equipment she holds while transforming gets turned into a magical girl version of it, like Ghost Rider.

Her scythe, Lunamaria, is made with a steel edge, and an iron blade inlaid with mythril and quicksilver. This allows her to defeat most dark foes without calling upon her moonfallen abilities.

Her Bolt Pistol, Lunalapina, uses custom made rounds, (made a lot easier with Dust forging equipment). She owns rounds customized to fight most dark things. Once converted, her mag changes use her prismatic energy to refill them. Think similar to Dante, but she still has to reload.

She can do something similar to Petal Burst while transformed, except more prismatic.

She can do a less conspicuous long-range teleportation that is guided by her faith, i.e. it cannot be used arbitrarily.

Pyrrha Nikos

A literal angel.

Angels are forbidden from most direct interventions. The exception is for the Creatures of Grimm, or other nefarious beings.

Angels can only whisper into your ear. Devils have the same restriction, but are not known for being good at following rules.

Often the intervention of angels will be perceived, (by the imperceptive), as luck. Others might see them in dreams.

Can summon a Auroran Horse or a Kelpie. Auroran Horses work like Ruin from Darksiders, but made from light that blends into the darkness. Kelpies are water fey horses that are known for their... ill temperament. Will often act out against those that Weiss is irate with. Thoroughly enjoys chewing on Jaune's hair.

Minors in Fey summoning and economics.

Her main Fey summons are a Pixie, Will'o'Wisp, Banshee, and female Dullahan.

Her pixie is mischievous, much to Weiss' vexation. But, she'll only have fun with those Weiss holds dear. Otherwise, they might simply get lost in the woods.

Will'o'Wisps are incorporeal, and bear the water, wind, and light elements that Weiss is so wonderful with.

For those that don't know their Fey, Banshees are actually extremely loyal to their households. They are washer maids, and the wail is because their beloved family member is going to die. Her powers are water-based, along with a wail that can be modified to work in a wide variety of ways. He touch can chill, and her voice carries the wind.

Her Dullahan carries a great sword with a fluted tip in one hand, and can summon an Auroran horse to ride.

Her Dullahan is Nora, whom largely represents Weiss' desire to not have impulse control and selfishness. Naturally, they clash quite a big.

Her Pixie is Leanan Ren, a Leanan Sidhe. She largely represents Weiss's exceptionalism and selflessness. Her mistress, and her mistress' friends call her "Leeann."

When Leeann and Nora agree, and can convince Weiss, typically leads to epic bouts of violence.

Blake Belladonna

Nekomata (cat Youkai that can take Human form; known for being especially amorous).

Has Changeling blood, but must soon return to her original form.

The only form she is truly comfortable in is that of a black cat, or a black catgirl.

Can become amorphous, and crawl through the shadows, or strike out from them as tendrils. Learns to master greater abilities, think Shadow from DMC.

Class is Ninja, which is basically a Rogue with low-level magic.

Her Youkai blood provides basic shapeshifting. Her distant Changeling blood provides more advanced, though less stable shape shifting. Her Ninja abilities allow her to blend into shadow, briefly become intangible, or leave behind figments of her presence.

Yang Xiao Long

Dragon-blooded, from a Storm Dragon. Got it from Tai's side.

Appears Human.

Can learn to summon dragon features, such as claws, wings, scales, or a tail.

Can eventually learn to transform into a Storm Dragon, though she normally needs a LOT of rage to do so.

Her rage allows her to basically turn Super Saiyan. Which is basically just Yang's regular Semblance, but attached to someone as powerful as Vegeta.

Class is Stormclash Monk. Combines Monk with Bloodrager, with Storm-based spellcaster.

Weapons: Gauntlets, a stone sling, and an Iron Club. She can use all three as a catalyst for her lightning powers, and all count as monk weapons.

Ilia Amitola

Rainbow slime.

Before anyone, including her, knew that she was a sentient lifeform, Jaune finds her on the street and takes care of her.

After watching Jaune fail to flirt with Weiss, she realized she could adopt a Human-like form.

Despite attempts by Blake to convince her otherwise, she sees nothing wrong with being Jaune's pet. He has always taken such good care of her.

She is vexed that she is no longer allowed to sleep with her master. However, he hasn't shown any problem about napping with him if she does so in blob form.

Once Jaune unlocks his grandfather's broken sword, she quite insistently goes with him. He will comply if she does so in blob form, sitting on his shoulder, (and refusing to leave).

Ilia's main abilities are physical transformations, (think Kirby). This means she tends to transform into Jaune's weapons, particularily a rainbow wrecking ball.

She can also extend spikes are enemies trying to strike Jaune from outside his field of vision. He gets used to it to the point if she barely does something similar, he knows he needs to look in that direction.

A third main form is turning into a boulder that Jaune throws (rolls) at enemies.

She has low-level elemental abilities. Not as suitable for combat, but allows her to turn into a bbq.

Transforms into Jaune's left pauldron during combat.

Penny Polendina

Golem with the soul of Pietro's daughter attached. He was legitimately trying to save his daughter, though the means are not exactly generally accepted. Only Dwarves know how to do this, and most of them would completely refuse to do so.

All mana channels and ley chambres are internal.

Penny is an Artificer with a minor in Battle Augur. She can create animated combatants. She has a small host of magic abilities, but only learns attack spells through observation. Other than Magic Missile, but since Battle Augurs are basically Megaman, it's through an arm cannon.

Creates an army of myrmidons, (magic robots), along with tiny, fairy versions of them.

General James Ironwood

Known as the "King of Mantle" by Humans in almost seriousness, and affectionately by Dwarves as the "Mantle Piece".

As a General, he was given leave to seek out the Dwarves of Mountain Mantle. He succeeded, and this close relationship is what created modernity. Along with the Schnee Dust Company, (managed by Elves, with the mining done by Dwarves).

The bulk of his forces are Atlasian Dampjager, steam Dwarves. They are smaller and lighter, but fantastically stronger and more robust than adult Humans.

These are augmented by Atlasian Dampdragens, carbinemen riding Steam Destriers, Damp'hest Also known as D-tross. They are as strong as as a truck, and can cover terrain like a horse.

Avoided Soul-Bound Golems because of the inherent ethics, until the creation of Penny Polendina. Now, it is offered to soldiers who are dying or otherwise crippled. Kind of like Dreadnoughts from 40k.

Army uses D-tross-towed artillery.

Has two primary chicken walkers, the Cockatrix and Basilix. The Basilix isn't larger, but is more robust and heavily armoured. The Cockatrix is lighter, more mobile, and has limited hover capabilities.

Dwarves

Because you voted for my Dwarves from Ingir, so, how they work with the Prismatic Rose AU, and the technological development of the world. Need to do a poll on tech first.

Dwarves worked through the early steam era and went onto nuclear, which is still technically steam power. It was Humans, specifically Ironwood that developed the steam generator technology that made it actually useful.

They largely live underground now, not because they especially like it underground, but because their holds were always dug into cliff faces, and like everyone else, they spend most of their time in \doors, nowadays.

Dwarves don't view necromancy as inherently evil, but instead view it through the voluntary/involuntary lens.

This means that they have no problem with soul-bound golems, as long as the volunteer is willing.

Necromancy is also used to bring an ancestor's ghost for ongoing legal disputes. Ironwood earned the respect of all of the Dwarven tribes of Mountain Mantle because he manages to stay impartial for these disputes. He simply had to put aside his squeamishness about necromancy.

Moonfallen

Creatures that have fallen to darkness in the shadow of the moon. The moon reflects light from the sun, and as such is both the basis of the power of the dark creatures, and their bane. The shattered moon remnant of the disaster that created them.

Creatures of shadow and enmity.

As enmity builds in an area, a Grimm Fragment is created. This is not visible to those without Shadowsight.

If enough enmity is unleashed at the same time, a Grimm Fragment can be boosted into a full-fledged Grimm.

More commonly, nefarious beings use the Fragments to create Creatures of Grimm to do their bidding, (hopefully).

Some less than ethnical magic users can try to use this as a power source. It can work, or it can create a Creature of Grimm.

When a Creature of Grimm is spotted, it triggers an investigation.

Huntsmen and Huntresses

Those licensed to hunt Creatures of Grimm and/or Moonfallen.

Some are lone vagabonds, others join fraternities or orders-militant.

While fraternities and orders normally have their own rules of conduct, without them Huntsmen are defacto, and often dejure, immune to all by the most heinous of laws.

This is both out of privilege, and out of practicality. On one hand, you want the Huntsman hunting. On the other, trying to bring a Huntsman to trial, unwillingly, is a harrowing ordeal for everyone involved. The Church's Inquisition typically handles rogue Huntsmen.

Because of this, disreputable Huntsmen will often be shunned by most of society.

Keep thinking on thing you said about Hornet joining the Troupe. Actually I think there could be an unbreakable reason for Grimm to offer such thing Just imagine her immersive devotion, alongside with her impressive skills and how it goes to waste because of dead kingdom and lack of praise and appreciation. She could do as bodyguard or even closer than this. He knows what exactly strings to pull, the only question is needed amount of time needed to bypass her "need-to-serve-kingdom" mindset

Yeah I can definitely see Grimm as being someone who can find the exact strings to pull, both from his age and experience and also because he's the nightmare god. i have always headcanoned that hornet didn't sleep a lot during stasis so I don't think he's peeking into her dreams often, but i don't think he needs to.

I'm still chewing on an AU where Hornet does abscond from Hallownest with the Troupe but it's going to be very different from canon. My thought is of course just that Hornet is a very strong, tenacious character so even if Grimm slips in with all this "you could be put better to use" "you're better than serving a dying kingdom" I just don't think she'd be the type to buy it. protecting the kingdom is a duty yes, but it's a duty from her mother (at least in my interpretation) so to me she'd not leave until after the radiance is defeated and the kingdom can truly die and, of course, be reborn. but even if she is freed from kingdom guarding duty she's always seemed to me like someone who would stick around and help its new phase along, hence me saying she'd need to be broken down pretty hard to be in the troupe.

I can't imagine how she'd get in that state so my AU hasn't been going down that path but more different in that 1.) She's raised exclusively in the White Palace 2.) Doesn't know Deepnest very well but still Yearns For It 3.) Very close with the Pale King and is saddled with his desire for legacy and eternity.

This is not PK slander btw I like him a lot lol but I do think being raised by him and pushing some traits further could make it so Hornet ends up a very different spider - namely in that she reigns in a lot of her Beast tendencies and tries to emulate her father, whilst of course PK is still PK so he's not really cut for a father and looks at the Hollow Knight too affectionately. All of this to stay I am trying to make it a good cocktail where a repressed Hornet gets seduced by some evil butch to be her true self and maybe also kill her dad. lol sorry PK.

With regards to her actual role in the troupe maybe bodyguard or closer (👀) is the route I'll take. I can't think of what else might be good. She could be a vanguard but I don't think Grimm would want to send her out without the Troupe so. I'll chew on it more.

Interesting head cannon.

So I have my OC/AU with something called the god of violence or death. They are basically a greater being that feeds off of the act of violence or people dying.

But it made me start thinking about other higher beings and how my higher being would interact with others.

And then I started thinking about if the other gods even represent anything.

The radiance and grim both represent dreams or something. But the radiance seems to also encourage death maybe? And giving that most people who fall into her light basically die. Or at least she revived a whole bunch of people. Taking over empty husks.

So I basically decided to try and answer if they have meanings with life and death. Probably doesn't mean anything to the actual lore of hollow Knight. But I basically tried to link certain aspects of life and death with the higher beings.

I think either Unn or The white lady represent life or growth. Basically the physical representations of the beginning of life and your body naturally growing through that life.

I think The pale King could represent living. Not so much the act of being alive or growing up old. But more so the simple aspects of living. That's why he expands and wants to stay eternal. Because living is something everybody strives to do. You can grow old, And you can be born into the world. But living is something different. The pale King is the actions of life.

I think the Radiance and Grimm can be sort of duality. As I think is the intention in game. But I'm going to separate them a little bit.

The Radiance is afterlife. Basically how a bunch of religions have a sort of afterlife. A eternal place where they can live out the rest of eternity. It's hidden in death. But it is bright. A dream. The radiance is the endless dream. The one you cannot escape but you aren't fighting to leave it.

Grimm is the memory. They feast off of the fires of Old kingdoms. They call this nightmare essence, But I think that's just a naming thing. The same with dream. Basically the nightmare is a memory. Whether it's good or bad depends. But I forgotten Kingdom is usually dead. Most kingdoms ending in tragedy. Grimm is basically feeding off of the old memories and remnants. Not quite a God of death, but a god of remembering death. Consuming it. They are the act of remembering while also forgetting.

Then we have the void. Who I think either represents a different thought of the afterlife, or simply what happens after you are forgotten. You disappear. You become nothing. While the radiance promises some sort of afterlife. The void does not. The void promises nothing. As when you die you become nothing. Especially after being forgotten. The void consumes things are forgotten or are dead and don't take in an afterlife. They are the aspect of becoming nothing after death.

And that's sort of my hot take of what the different God's represent. Like I said I don't think it actually has any merit in Hollow Knight. Given that the gods are mostly just bugs that have special powers. The radiance is maybe more than that but characters like the white lady, pale King, or Unn I'll have bodies and seem to wander around. The nightmare heart and the radiance are the only ones that stand out from this. So they might be a bit more godly than the others. So they hold more mystic God magic.

But I think it's an interesting idea nonetheless. Hope you all find it interesting too.

Hollow knight au headcanons bc i said so

infectionHK: Radiance could manifest into a little orb of light and follow HK around. HK had full control and was aware of what he was doing and ended up killing WL, LK, Little Ghost, and 3 of the 5 Great Knights.

The Fallen Usurper: The Gods of Hallownest met up regularly to discuss stuff and territory, only for the meeting to be wreaked by Grimm. The HK cut its hair very short (in my HK headcanons post I said that long hair means you were very loyal (to the king)) after the Gods threw PK into the Abyss.

Cursed au: After Dream No More ending, the Radiance became a normal kid again. The twos kid forms were altered to resemble the Shade Lord and Radi.

Trio au: Lost is a fucking troller and will say he’ll be there in 10 but is already there, Ivy gives you cookies and will cry if you don’t accept the cookie, Little Ghost can and will break your fucking spine. They all showed up to the White Palace and PK was visibly scared from beyond the grave

the sibling gods who guarded the dreams and nightmares of mortals. in the past, they were united in the dream realm, but grimm's fondness towards the mortals, and the radiance's obsession with living up to their father's legacy brought conflict upon them, and the resulting battle ended with grimm's defeat and exile from the dream realm

grimm has always been a rebellious type. unlike his sister, he did not care for worship, and instead found pleasure in mingling with the mortals. he watched over their nightmares, but was no stranger to causing them on purpose and feeding on their essence for his own enjoyment. however, he was just as fascinated by the arts created by the mortals, and grew fond of theatre in particular. unfortunately, his actions did not go unnoticed by his sister, which caused conflict between them, eventually resulting in a battle that he lost. he was exiled from the dream realm, and weakened after the fight, he was forced to flee to the nightmare realm, now split from the plane of dreams. he continued to guard and feed on the nightmares of bugs, but in order to sustain his physical form, he became a slave to the endless cycle of death and rebirth, as the nightmare heart was unable to support the body indefinitely and needed to recycle the flame. he had the choice to burn the physical form and remain in the nightmare realm, and yet, over the years, he gained a certain fondness for the mortals, a fondness which eventually turned to envy. he saw them create bonds, fall in love and make the best of their short lives. he craved a deep connection with someone, but feared getting attached, as he knew that he would outlive any of his loved ones. the troupe, which he formed soon after his exile, was the closest he had to a family, though it wasn't enough: he was still lonely. he tried to distract himself with the pleasures offered by the mortal plane, he drank wine, he made love, and yet it still wasn't enough to fill the hole in his heart. he wouldn't find true happiness until he met the king of hallownest, whom he would start a relationship with following the latter's hibernation

the radiance despised her brother's affinity for the mortals. unlike many gods of the dream realm, she did not possess a physical form. she believed in the old ways, where the worship received by the lower beings was the only acceptable relationship with them. she saw grimm's actions as betrayal of their father's trust, and believed that he was not worthy of the powers given to him. after grimm's exile, she remained in the dream realm, unwilling to follow in the footsteps of the other gods. what she did not realize was that the mortals, while easy to intimidate, worked in simple ways. with many of the gods residing in their plane, they gravitated towards believing in what they could see and touch, and over time abandoned the radiance. watching her followers slowly leave her terrified her, but her breaking point would not come until later, when the moths abandoned their ways and chose to follow the pale king. she felt nothing but disdain for him from the moment he arrived in hallownest. she knew he was not born a higher being, that he was a false god, and yet he would still slowly gain followers, a fact which infuriated her. over time, she was almost entirely forgotten, and in a desperate attempt to regain her worship and preserve her father's legacy, she began to infect the mortals' dreams, breaking their minds and forcing them to follow her. however, while the infection claimed the lives of many and lasted many years, it was eventually brought to an end by one of the pale king's vessels. she died overwhelmed the void united, an ancient enemy, the same being her father sacrificed himself to defeat and seal away down in the abyss many centuries prior

Lunar Eclipse AU

My answer to the question "what if the dream and nightmare realms never split?" which isn't entirely accurate because they still do split eventually, just way after we can safely assume they did in canon, but I'm getting ahead of myself.

So, does the dream and nightmare realms staying together longer mean that Grimm and the Radiance had a more functional relationship as siblings? Funny you should ask that, because hahaha, absolutely not!

The Radiance is incredibly abusive towards Grimm, treating him as a tool rather than as his own god with his own life. This backfires horribly, because her practically raising him surrounded on all sides by lies and manipulation only made him really good at lying and manipulating. That was the only reason he managed to create the troupe without drawing her suspicion that maybe the group of "puppets" he has aren't under as much strict control as she thinks they are("worship? meaningful connection? no, that's ridiculous"/s)

The main story of the AU revolves around Grimm's interactions with the Pale King. The Radiance orders Grimm to kill him and at first he's up for it, viewing it as an opportunity to prove his loyalty and to avoid getting on her bad side should be succeed. His plan is to earn the King's trust, get him alone, and then strike; his plan is to make him suffer all while stirring up trouble behind the scenes to secure her worship and drive the wyrm to desperation.

But...as he's spending time with the wyrm, he starts getting this odd feeling in his chest and throat. When his soon-to-be victim first drops the formalities and speaks to him as an equal, when he thanks Grimm for rescuing him from a (staged) assassination attempt, and when he kisses him on the cheek and Grimm reacts just how you might expect. He's able to explain these moments away to his sister by telling her he was acting as though he felt genuine connection and that he couldn't possibly be dumb enough to fall in love with the man he was told to kill...right?

And when the moment finally arrives, when the two of them are alone together and the wyrm has made himself more vulnerable than he ever had been before...

...Grimm hesitates.

This takes place between the time Anthea realizes they are in love and Narinder's release from the Below.

Today had been a calmer day, which Anthea was grateful for. She was currently crusading through Darkwood for needed supplies, (wood, stone, camellias and the like), when she stumbled into a massive camilla meadow. It had sometime since the lamb last saw one as they had become fewer in number since she had defeated Leshy. It was a nice day. A soft breeze blew through, wafting the scent of the red flowers all around with a few petals and dandelion seeds float about magically.

As she admired the scene and the calmness she felt, words began to slip from her. "Maybe it's the way you say my name. Maybe it's the way you play your game. But it's so good, I've never known anybody like you. But it's so good, I've never dreamed of nobody like you." She sings softly to herself, mind wandering to her God and his kits. Her heart swelled with a fullness she hadn't felt in a long time, if ever.

"And I've heard of a love that comes once in a lifetime. And I'm pretty sure that you are that love of mine. 'Cause I'm in a field of dandelions. Wishing on every one that you'd be mine, mine. And I see forever in your eyes. I feel okay when I see you smile, smile. Wishing on dandelions all of the time. Praying to God that one day you'll be mine. Wishing on dandelions all of the time, all of the time." The lamb sings as she walks through the flowers, imagining doing so with Narinder. Anthea spins, feeling the grass under her hooves as she does.

A big grin spreads across Anthea's face as she gently runs her hands over the petals. Her mind wanders to the her recent daydreams about happily living with her god, Aym and Baal. "I think that you are the one for me. 'Cause it gets so hard to breathe. When you're looking at me, I've never felt so alive and free. When you're looking at me, I've never felt so happy. As she sings, Death's vessel only slightly registers the crown floating nearby, watching her. Too lost in the moment and the daydream to care. " 'Cause I'm in a field of dandelions. The lamb moves to sit amongst the flowers and dandelions, feeling the breeze flow through her wool. She carefully picks a white dandelion that was ready to blow it's seeds away. Anthea gazes at it in thought for a moment before continuing to sing, only this time it seemed like she was giving a message for the seeds to carry. "Dandelion, into the wind you go. Won't you let my darling know?" She blows on the seeds, sending them flying into the air. She watches them float about. "Dandelion, into the wind you go. Won't you let my darling know that?"

Suddenly, the lamb flings herself back, landing on a large patch of dandelions and sending a puff of seeds flying into the wind. "I'm in a field of dandelions. Wishing on every one that you'd be mine, mine. And I see forever in your eyes. I feel okay when I see you smile, smile. Wishing on dandelions all of the time. Praying to God that one day you'll be mine. Wishing on dandelions all of the time, all of the time."

Anthea watches the dandelion seeds fly away, carrying her message to the one who holds her heart. The one who waits for her to visit.

Narinder was beginning to turn his sight away from what he was watching, having listened intently to her song and heart heavy with confusion as sadness. The crown floating down to sit by the vessel's head as he sings softly to himself what he wished he could say himself. "I'm in a field of dandelions. Wishing on every one that you'd be mine, mine."

It actually isn't my AU but my bestie's, @bluethepearldiver, but to summarise;

Pale King was planning to go with the original vessel plan, but after carrying part of the eggs he started to have doubts. When they were heading to put the eggs in the abyss, he was holding one of them (Hallow's egg) when the hatchling inside moved. That made him break and he immediately called off the plan and ordered for the eggs to be brought back to White Lady.

So she took care of their eggs while he started to work on finding a new plan. He eventually decided to turn himself into a vessel instead, via a combination of torture to break his spirit and consuming void.

For now though, he focused on raising his children.

He was with them until they were 10, at which point he left to enact his plan. The kids didn't take it well, especially Hallow who was terrified of taking on the mantle of the king when they come of age and learning how to follow in his footsteps without him. They actually yell at him that they hate him, which they regret for the rest of their life.

Hallow was crowned on their 18th birthday, the same day their father would be sealed. They held a funeral for the old king, and Hallow and White Lady went all out. Hallow even made a new holiday to commemorate their father.

Years pass as normal, but the infection eventually returns just like in canon. Hallow immediately throws themself into work, trying to find a solution to it, and just like their father many years before they start looking into void as a solution. Their experiments lead to mild void poisoning and their hands being permanently stained, which they hide with gloves. They also get into arguments with their mother, saying their father's plan was stupid and she should have stopped him; now they and their sibling lost a dad and Hornet lost both her parents, for nothing.

Hallownest falls just like in canon, but instead of retreating to the dream realm with their palace Hallow patrols their former kingdom along with their sister. It goes pretty much the same as in canon, as far as I'm aware; Ghost who had became a traveller returns home and with the help of their siblings breaks their father free. Hallow picks their father up and rushes to get him medical help as infection slowly dies around them.

The Pale King wakes up sometime later in the hospital while the kingdom is recovering, the curtains are always closed in his room so he can't see the state of Hallownest. Hallow and their siblings are busy assisting the survivors and rebuilding the kingdom, but they obviously find fine to visit him, especially when they hear he woke up.

When they first meet and Pale King has that puzzled, blank look on his face Hallow's afraid he really is hollow after all but nah, in reality, they just grew so much he didn't recognise them. Once he does though it's all tearful hugs and apologies.

Pale King slowly heals along with the kingdom, but while he healed physically he's still yet to recover mentally, and after having a panic attack after meeting a moth Hallow's dating, he comes to the realisation he needs help. His family stage an intervention and help him find a therapist and he leaves to another kingdom, accompanied by Grimm and his troupe (imagine packing up to check yourself into a mental hospital and your ride turns out to be a fucking clown car), and he leaves with Dryya as his guard. It takes him roughly 5 years to return.

Also, before he left he and White Lady had another kid named Hope. And during these 5 years he went and killed the Nightmare's Heart so now Grimm is the God of nightmares instead of it.

After they return it's mostly cute domestic stuff. PK's family is horrified to find out he started dating Grimm (except for Ghost, who's ecstatic to have grimmchild as their new sibling, literally the only two people happy about this outcome tbh)
