something something Snow tries to kill Lucy Gray because he’s personally afraid for himself and concludes something about humanity from that choice. Gleb tries to kill Anya because of something he concluded about humanity, but then on a personal level he can’t do it

it's literally ok it's literally the dehumanization of the other vs the humanization of what he thought was the other!!

Snow using Lucy Gray as a confirmation of his world view and Anya breaking through Gleb's worldview, changing it! Gleb is clinging to an ideology he needs to be true to justify his father's actions, but he realizes he cannot look into the face of a person and shoot her for Ideals. Snow has made a lot of choices for his own improvement but he is scared of his own nature and of the loss of his future and he ultimately has to dehumanize Lucy Gray (and Sejanus) to affirm his own ideology

(also you haven't gotten this far in the inkheart re-read yet lol but there's a line where Dustfinger is speculating about Basta's superstitious nature and supposes that deep down his own darkness and evil terrifies him and so he projects it onto the world around him-- i wish I had a book in front of me to get that exact quote)

cat breeds/fur colours:

The Romanovs, including The Dowager and Anya are all Russian Blues. For Anya's design I'm planning to sort of draw inspiration from Lackadaisy's Ivy.

Dmitry is a tuxedo cat. In Act 1 his white markings are tricky to see bc dirt and big coats and stuff, but after Paris when they get their glow up it's a lot more clear. He has a heart-shaped white spot on his chest, which I especially want his costume to highlight during Crowd of Thousands.

Vlad is a dark orange tabby, but following the revolution he disguises himself as either a brown or gray tabby (I'm not sure which yet) in order to not be recognised as being formerly associated with the monarchy. When in the abandoned palace alone with Dmitry and/or Anya, he's almost entirely orange, but disguises himself again as soon as there's another person around. As they get closer to getting to Paris, he gradually loses the disguise. When they get to Paris and get their little glow up, he's completely orange again.

I don't really have any ideas that super stick out to me for Lily. Possibly entirely white, or a mostly white calico, to contrast with her costumes? Any Lily design I make will be drawing most of its inspiration from our production's Lily, so her costumes will include a lot of blacks, reds, and whites.

For Gleb, I want to say he'd be some sort of longhaired brown tabby? I'm gonna have to do more cat breed research to figure out exactly. I want him to be longhaired so that I can show just how disheveled he becomes over the course of the show. Like, in the first few scenes he's in, I want him to be very put-together and neat. He's got some loose strands of fur, and he's looking pretty exhausted during his duet with Gorlinsky and Still. By the time The Neva Flows/Still reprise shows up, I want him to look SOOOO messy. He's in crisis, and he should look like it.

So uh that's all the main characters I think. Other thoughts for this include:

-SOOOO many silent interactions, specifically between Vlad and Dmitry

-sort of related, but I want to put a bunch of silly little ensemble interactions??? many inspired from things I noticed in our show btw.

-Dmitry speaking Russian more. I plan to translate some of his lines into Russian, as well as giving him a lot of little vocal reactions, all in Russian.

-a lot of little design things or physical traits/habits inspired by our production's versions of the characters :)

-Vlad is odd in his physicality. My idea is that he's like one of those cats that grew up around dogs, and so has a bunch of doglike qualities. Anyways he wags his tail like a dog and Dmitry thinks it's the weirdest thing ever.

Miscellaneous Gleb Vaganov Headcanons

He was functionally an only child, but he’s the last in a line of other siblings who did not survive their early childhood. His mother was very protective of him.

His mother was religious, hence his name (heir of God.) This caused strife between her and Stepan, who was not religious.

He was too young to fight in WW1, and lied about his age to fight in the Russian Civil War. He came of age in the midst of a war. 

He hasn’t seen his mother since he faced her with steely eyes and told her he was off to fight.

His dreams, at their core, are simple. He wants a comfortable home, someone to cherish, and a family to protect and nurture.

He thinks those dreams can’t happen until he helps Russia more. He’s young, he says, when anyone asks. There’s time.

He likes his tea unbearably sweet. He does not add sweetness to his tea, thinking it is a waste for him to do so.

He’s the sort of man who has to shave twice a day in order to stay clean-shaven. He values looking put together.

He likes speeches the most out of his duties. He likes the art of crafting a thesis, of figuring out how to win a crowd, of sharing his beliefs with the world.

His Ural accent has all but disappeared at this point, due to his training in public speaking. He has the Russian equivalent of a Trans-Atlantic accent.

He believes in love at first sight (or at least, he does after it happens to him, after he meets a pair of blue eyes and feels like he’s been punched in the stomach.)

He’s not a good liar.

He’s not much of a smoker, but he takes it up more when he’s assigned to Paris.

He reaches Paris before Anya. He didn’t have to jump off a train after all.

His French is okay, but he has a very heavy Russian accent that he doesn’t do much to hide. 

He stops shaving regularly while he’s in Paris. His hair’s a mess. There’s circles under his eyes. He’s the antithesis of the put-together officer he was.

When he comes home, he visits his mother for the first time in years.

His hair starts graying prematurely after France.

There is a piece of Gleb Vaganov that is stuck in Paris, and will be as long as he lives.

Robin Again Earlier today (14 January 2021) it has been revealed that Damian Wayne as Robin would be getting a solo series this April. The creative team would consist of writer Joshua Williamson and penciler Gleb Melnikov. I am of two minds about this revelation, while I glad that Damian Wayne is seemingly choosing the side of the angels, I was looking forward for Damian Wayne to go beyond the yellow cape of Robin and become something greater – to form his own identity outside of the Robin legacy. It also beckons what becomes of Tim Drake, while I also do not that he pick up the mantle of Robin again – it concerns me of his fate. As for the uniform, I rather like it. Its darker tone fits the new image of Damian Wayne that the creative team is trying to make. It also keeps the yellow cape and the red of the Robin is highlight throughout the uniform. It is a better hybridization of the Robin and League of Assassins uniforms. Although, I would certainly miss the all-gray uniform he donned when he quit being Robin. Image Source:
