Subspace doodles (PHIGHTING! Mermaid au)
so I was thinking more about the PHIGHTING mermaid au I’m doing and. What if subspaces’ gas- instead of being like actual gas, was polluted oil? I think that could make for a really cool trope if I ever were to redesign him for it :3!
For the design notes in specific:
When out of control, his “gas” takes the form of polluted oil, in control (as in wearing his mask and tank) it gets filtered into something akin to toxic brine (in which long exposure to can cause a lot of issues, specifically different types of shock, breathing issues, etc). Although the brine isn’t too dangerous to be around in small amounts, it can be harmful over time.
for those wondering what ACTUAL brine water (or more specifically brine pools) are, it’s pretty much a large accumulation of highly concentrated saltwater (which usually is around 10 times saltier then the ocean surrounding it) For most sea animals this brine means instant death due to the fact that is has no oxygen in it as well as the high saline levels.
(Im hyper fixating again can you tell)
#AUUUUUGH#ME WJEN THE#ME WHEN THE OCEAN IS THE COOLEST THING EVER#Anyways yeah! My inner marine biologist is coming out again it seems!#I think this would would pretty well for squidspace#Unfiltered his gas is polluted oil and filtered its lower concentrations of brine#Subspaces filtered brine I feel like would be around a 2-4 on how salty it is compared to the rest of the water#I also imagine that the oil he produces can be collected- and is used to help power the biografts#His urchins are also INCREDIBLY unstable#And will explode if thrown/stepped on/and or are handled a bit too roughly#To subspace hes immune to their affects#But to others they can be really dangerous as oil can stick to fins/gills/or mouths#Anyways enjoy this small thing#i love the world building for this au so much#I’m so proud of myself for coming up with it#I can’t WAIT for mermay >:3#art#artists on tumblr#phighting fanart#phighting!#digital art#roblox phighting#phighting#phighting art#roblox#phighting roblox#phighting! roblox#phighting! art#phighting! subspace#subspace tripmine

🐠 Daily Fish Fact: 🐠
*Finding Nemo Series #4*
The Morrish Idol's unusual name was given to it, because in some areas of south-east Asia fishermen have respect for these fishes, releasing them when caught and honouring them with a bow after their release. The genus name Zanclusis derived from zanklon, meaning "sickle", and is an allusion to the long curved dorsal fin.

Bluntnose Six-Gill shark
Felt like I should finally make a post about my favorite shark species (They are my everything)
Basics
Bluntnose Six-Gill sharks are the largest species in their order(Hexanchiformes), with males reaching lengths of 12 feet and females reaching lengths of 18 feet! Belonging to the cow shark family (Hexanchidae), this species has remained relatively unchanged since the early Jurassic period. Their name reflects their distinctive anatomy (extra gill slits) :3
Physical characteristics
The Bluntnose Six-Gill sharks have many distinctive features, such as their streamlined, elongated body, a blunt snout, and a small dorsal fin positioned towards the back of its body. It has grayish-brown skin that helps it blend into its dark surroundings, while a pale belly provides camouflage from below (Countershading). Many people don’t think that Bluntnose sharks have dorsal fins, but that’s untrue! Unlike most sharks, they only have one dorsal fin, however it’s located more posteriorly compared to others. This adaptation is common in bottom-dwelling species as they don’t require the same level of speed as pelagic species! With a dorsal fin that’s positioned closer to the caudal fin, it enables them to make sharper turns and increases maneuverability.
Respiratory features/evolution
As we’ve previously noted, Bluntnose sharks have six gills, but why? The additional gill slit allows the Bluntnose shark to extract oxygen from the water more efficiently, which is a crucial adaptation in deep-sea environments where oxygen is scarce. Older species from the cow shark family have persistently remained unchanged, and continue to find success with a more primitive body.
Habitat
Bluntnose Six-Gill sharks are found all over the world on continental shelves, slopes, abyssal plains, seamounts, and mid ocean ridges. They reside in deep, cold waters between 200-1000 meters in temperate climates, but can be found in shallower waters in cooler climates. Scientists have primarily studied their behavior in shallower waters in high latitudes, but less is known about their behavior in deeper waters.
Migration
Bluntnose Six-Gill sharks exhibit diel vertical migration, which means they migrate vertically through the water column during the day and night. They stay in deeper depths around 600 meters during the day, and then move to shallower depths of around 200 meters during the night. Diel vertical migration isn’t uncommon among smaller marine organisms such as zooplankton, fish and squid. They travel deeper during the daytime to avoid predators, and migrate back to shallower depths at night to feed. Scientists are unsure why Bluntnose sharks exhibit this behavior, BUT I think it’s because they track the abundance of migrating prey items, as they feed on most of the smaller organisms I listed.
Diet
Bluntnose sharks feed on fish, squid, rays crustaceans, and agnathans (hagfish and sea lampreys). They also scavenge carrion and participate in feeding frenzies.
Reproduction
Bluntnose sharks reproduce through ovoviviparity. This means that the eggs hatch inside the female, where embryos develop until they’re ready to be born. Scientists believe their gestation periods last longer than two years. Litter sizes range from 20-110 pups, however it suggest that mortality rates for the pups may be high. Each pup is around 70 cm at birth.
Conservation status
The Bluntnose shark is listed as near threatened on the IUCN list. Its popularity as a sport fish makes it vulnerable to exploitation.
That’s pretty much it :3 all of this is why, you too should love the Bluntnose-Six gill shark 🦈

Hey 🗑️🔥 gang (@katkastrofa @rokurookajima @shadelorde)…
Heard you guys like feral women 😏😏😏
#yes this is directly inspired by Syd and Nightmare’s recent animalistic Raava pieces#I’m sorry if you expected something related to the spirit kites but I’m obsessed with my OCs first and foremost#and Suiren is already very feral in most verses. the mermaid AU just adds a biological factor to it#but actually. fun fact. she doesn’t even look as feral as she would be were she a full mermaid#(yeah I’m spoiler alert that’s not really a spoiler given that I drew a lot for this AU last year and already gave it away. Ghazan’s human)#(meaning Suiren’s only half mermaid. I’ve never drawn her in this AU but I imagine Ming-Hua looking ever more monster like)#(bc I dislike when mermaids are just pretty girls with fish tails. give me FANGS and CLAWS and SCALES and GILLS and FINS)#(so yeah. Ming-Hua has a lot more scaled and also dorsal fins running higher up her back. and a more dexterous tail. I should draw her)#but I hope the vibe still comes across. with the blood and all 😁#was it a fish she ate or a too curious human? that’s for me to know and for you to find out#ANYWAY!! some new headcanons about my mermaids based on what you guys said about human Raava:#my mermaids don’t inherently know human language. their underwater communication sounds similar to whale singing#above water it’s more of a chirping noise? though more elongated and melodic than a dolphin’s. something between a trill and a whine#and most don’t have the capacity to speak human language. but sirens have unique vocal chords that allow the siren spell to work#it’s similar to a parrot’s. they’re very good at mimicry. it’s an evolutionary hunting tactic#but they also have more developed brains than a parrot’s therefore can not only mimic but consciously speak#though it takes time to master. like a foreign language#am I implying that when Mingzan met as kids they couldn’t understand each other and Ghazan taught her to speak human? yes. yes I am#because I’m a sucker for language barriers and think that scenario is adorable. fucking sue me.#and obliviously Suiren was taught both mermaid and human. but it was Midori who helped her keep up her knowledge#(look I don’t have that part plotted out yet but Something happens to their parents and they’re left on their own. as a parallel to SotRL)#(also btw Midori was born without a tail but still not quite human. she has scales and gills and ear fins and fangs and glowing eyes)#(and no one but Suiren and Haya know about all that. Haya makes her hide it and convinces her that she’s a half fish freak :/)#(at least.. until a certain Beifong with an interest in marine biology comes along…)#(yes Green Opal in this verse are the epitome of ‘there are many benefits to being a marine biologist’)#how did I end up talking about Midori. anyway. yes I made both Kuvira and Ghazan monsterfuckers. no I’m not ashamed#my art#artists on tumblr#Nia’s mermaid AU#sotrl suiren

A lot of people don't know how gills work.
just sayin. it is apparently not widespread knowledge :(
It's not, like, an automatic thing. The water doesn't come IN the gills, and gills definitely don't just pull oxygen straight from the h2o. What really happens is the fishes or anthropomorphic beings with gills takes in water through their mouth. Then, they separate the oxygen to keep and use, and scrap the rest. THAT is what comes out of the gills. Gills are like a fancy lil method of secreting body excrement, in a way. kinda.
Now. Can fishes (or anthropomorphic beings with gills) breathe out of the water? A lot of fishes can't, but there are actually quite a few that can. (Google mudskipper, it's really cool i promise, they can walk.) Obviously, according the theory of evolution, there is a v e r y long history of fishes learning to breathe on land. Since they are still fishes, they can also breathe underwater. This means that the two are not mutually exclusive.
So TELL ME WHY movies and books always portray it like that????!!!!!
Anyways, I was reading a fanfiction with mermaids in it so i wrote this cuz they got it wrong in there. plus i just think it's interesting.
I am definitely NOT an expert so if someone is and you are offended by misinformation that's maybe accidentally in here pls correct me!
There was a surprising amount of mudskipper gifs available on tumblr.com so enjoy 🐟🐠🦈🐡
#fish#fishes#mudskipper#fanfiction#writing tips#????#ig? if ur writing about anthropomorphic beings with gills and wanna be accurate???#marine life#marine biology#honestly#h2o just add water#love that shit#what do you call a fish without an eye?#fshhhhhhhh#that is my favorite fucking joke

How to tell the difference between a six gilled shark and a greenland shark:
A six gilled shark:
Has 6 gills
Primary pectoral fins are triangular
Anal fin present
Only one dorsal fin
Long upper caudal (tail) lobe
A Greenland shark:
Has 5 gills
Primary pectoral fins are stubby
No anal fin
Two dorsal fins
Upper caudal fin is more symmetrical to lower caudal fin
and now you know.

finished my presentation and it wS awsome as fuck im going to get a good grade in analysis something which genuinely is normal to want and possible to achieve
#Theyre goinf to be soooooo knowledgeable on analytic functions im killing it#any time i get to mention neighbourhoods in a presentation im happy though i get stupid excited about neighbourhoods for literally no reason#which obviously is catastrophic in an analysis course LOL#its like taking a marine biology class and giggling and jumpign up and down every time gills get mentioned or something#mundane as fuck thing to be excited over

Hello!Hi! How are you? My name's Bee and Normally i run LavenderHoneyArtBlog. All my life has been me trying to write stories, drawing them but never fully completing them for...well thousand reasons!
So i hope with this im able to keep on going with this project. Mermaids are the best and i know everyone can agree there is not enough in the media of them.
Seabird's requiem is my proposition for a webcomic inspired by the caribbean side of Costa Rica( i'm from the capital!) talking about biopolitics, gentrification, queernes and much more!
If those are things you are insterested in seeing you are more than welcome to join me in this journey of constantly spiraling and self doubt.(not a professional artist, history drop out student and full of anxiety)
