All negative actions are motivated by delusions, which in turn arise from self-cherishing. First we develop the thought, “I am important,” and because of this we feel that the fulfillment of our wishes is of paramount importance. Then we desire for our self that which appears attractive and develop attachment, we feel aversion for that which appears unattractive and develop anger, and we feel indifference toward that which appears neutral and develop ignorance. From these delusions all other delusions arise...

Geshe Rabten (Canción de la vision profunda)

Geshe Rabten fue un monje tibetano nacido en 1921 y fue un asistente personal del Dalai Lama.

Nació en 1921 en una modesta familia de granjeros en Dargay, provincia de Kim al oeste del Tibet.

A muy temprana edad tuvo que asumir la responsabilidad de su familia hasta la edad de 19 años.

Era también un experto en el campo del deporte y de la música, Era un excepcional nadador y acróbata de caballos y era también un dotado en las artes marciales, como el tiro con arco, las peleas de espadas y disparar.

Su familia había planeado para el la sucesión de su padre puesto que su hermano mayor ya había sido enviado a un monasterio como era ya tradicional en las familias tibetanas, sin embargo su deseo de seguir el camino espiritual fue tal que decidió abandonar la casa contra los deseos de sus padres.

Viajó por tres meses a pie a la ciudad de Lhasa y fue admitido en el Colegio Je del monasterio de Sera en Lhasa, la hoy región autónoma del Tibet y alcanzó el estatus de Geshe antes de dejar el Tibet en 1959, Se hizo conocido como polemista, erudito y maestro de meditación.

Las extraordinarias habilidades de Geshe Rimpoche fueron reconocidas por todos los grandes estudiosos del monasterio.

Debido a su forma clara y precisa de debate lógico, la gente lo comparó con Dharmakirti, el gran pensador lógico budista. 

Después de haber estudiado durante unos veinte años, aprobó el examen y se le otorgó el titulo de mayor rango, “Geshe Lharampa”. Este es el mayor honor que otorgan los monjes examinadores y Su Santidad el Dalai Lama.

A mediados de la década de 1960, Geshe Rabten era asistente religioso del Dalai Lama, mismo que le pidió que enseñara el Dharma a los occidentales en 1969 en Dharamshala India lugar en donde se estableció también el propio Dalai Lama.

En 1974, enseño en Suiza y fue fundador del centro Rabten Choeling en 1979 en donde permaneció ahí hasta su muerte en 1986.

Fue fundador también de diversos centros tibetano en Hamburgo, en Munich y en Milán Italia.

Almost-Daily Dragon Day 14!

It's Geshe again, but this time it's her skin! Is that too creepy to say?

People being so sweet about her inspired me to finally pull out the sketch I'd made of her custom skin. And, after years of searching, I may finally have her actual dragon (with the right colors) on the way. (:

He was the founder and spiritual director of the New Kadampa Tradition-International Kadampa Buddhist Union (Function), a registered non-profit, modern Buddhist organization that came out of the Gelugpa school/lineage. They have 1,300 centres around the world, including temples, city temples and retreat centres that offer an accessible approach to ancient wisdom.
