Considering all the concerns about the fest skin and accent contest winners, potential staff bias towards certain users, and whether or not new people can even get a chance to win, I was curious just how many players who win in the contest are actually new and how many are more experienced, long term winners.

With this in mind, I went over the previous 5 festivals covering the latter half of 2023. There's 16 potential winning slots per fest which mean 80 wins total- with 57 unique winners.

Out of those 57 unique winners, 26 were first time winners.

Typically there are 5 first time winners per fest- this does vary and the highest amount of first time winners in this time period was 7 during rockbreakers ceremony, the lowest was 4 during thundercrack.

Some extra info: Under current usernames and considering unique winners only, there was 20 winners in this time who have between 2-5 wins in the database. There were 4 winners with 6-15 wins in the database. There were 7 winners with 15+ wins in the database (highest total was 32, with that users earliest win dating back to 2015).

I think the biggest take away from this is, there are people who take part in the skin and accent contest month after month, and have over the years racked up their wins. And equally there are people who have never made a skin before in their life who decide to take a leap and win! Purely by statistics, the odds seem fairly even to me.

Whoops! Once again, as soon as I commit to another art project, my life starts demanding all my energy and attention (it's almost taught me an association with art and stress!). Between work and some Big Events, I have been completely offline. Funny enough, I am able to devote more time to art today because I sprained my ankle..... Ain't that just the way!

Anyway, Yen is the first of a handful of giftart dragons I'm doing to shake off more dust!

Almost-Daily Dragon Day 13! A WIP of Nacht the imperial!

I've been avoiding doing anything pixelated (my most favorite art to work on) thus far because I burn myself out on it. I am way too persnickety to do pixels quickly.

BUT, one of the things I am trying to learn from these exercises is making things simpler; I only had a few hours to draw tonight, so I wanted to make a simple, low frame animation! But I didn't do that! This is a 72 frame sketch! And that was me CONTROLING myself! I really held myself back!!! At least it's turning out nicely so far, but I really need to start taking speeding up!!!!! Why am I like this!!!! TTwTT

I really like thinking about how magic and breed-specific traits affect the daily lives of dragons in sornieth. the small and stupid things especially.

like imagine a lightning primal getting so mad at dying in a video game that they suddenly create an electromagnetic field so powerful that it effectively acts as an emp and takes out the neighborhood power grid. they're so mortified by the incident that they move to an entirely new region by next week.

imagine a light dragon that glows when they're embarrassed. they're eating at a restaurant with friends. the waiter tells them to enjoy their food, and they respond "you too." as soon as their brain catches up to their mouth they flashbang the entire establishment.

imagine a skydancer just chilling when their roommate comes back from their retail job, hatred and malice and despair absolutely flowing off of them. the skydancer jumps like they've been doused with cold water, goes "I need to leave this house immediately," then proceeds to sprint out of the door

imagine a nature dragon who keeps getting asked for advice on gardening and how to keep houseplants alive and every time they have to explain that actually they have a terrible black thumb but if you figure out how to keep orchids alive please let them know.

Daily Dragon Day 12! Murlough the ridgeback!

I have been looking at this one far too long to really tell what it looks like anymore, but I am really starting to feel like drawing is getting easier again. I'm still working through a lot of internal blocks, but it's a lot smoother after twelve(ish) days! Thank you all for joining me!!
