Ghassan Abu Sittah calls out German state as 'accomplices to crime of genocide

British-Palestinian doctor Ghassan Abu Sittah, who has become known for his work in Gaza's hospital, spoke outside of the German embassy in London after being detained and deported from Germany while trying to attend a conference where he would present evidence on the war in Gaza and his witness statement as a doctor working in its hospitals.

Media coverage | According to Israeli media reports, a conversation between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Germany’s foreign minister became "heated up" after Baerbock mentioned the famine in Gaza.

The report stated that when Annalena offered to show Netanyahu and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer photos of hungry Gazan children on her phone, Netanyahu vehemently denied that there is a famine in Gaza and instead showed random pictures of Gaza's beach.

Baerbock reportedly suggested that Israel should stop circulating photos depicting life as returning to normal in the Palestinian enclave, stating that "they don’t portray the real situation in Gaza. There is hunger in Gaza.”

At this juncture, Netanyahu is said to have raised his voice, insisting, “It’s real. It’s reality. It’s not like what the Nazis staged; we’re not like the Nazis who produced fake images of a manufactured reality.”

I'm so angry that every single day multiple times a day on German TV they broadcast the interviews with Jewish Germans and Israeli victims of October 7 where they cry about how "nobody is listening to them" and "nobody cares about their fear and trauma" AS THEY ARE BEING LISTENED TO AND BROADCASTED. It does not get more absurdly hypocritical than that. While these reports get repeated every day without any new information or facts, at the same time Palestinians are being butchered every single day multiple times a day. And no reports about that at all. These people get to describe their every thought and feeling in detail and have it broadcasted on all channels while at the same time not a single report gives the same justice to a single Palestinian in Gaza. No report actually discusses the criticisms of Israel critics, they are simply called antisemites indiscriminately, without proof of argumentation. It's a completely and extremely emotionalised way of reporting that is intended to invoke shame rather than inform. They claim that Israel critics lack nuance while these reports actually do completely lack nuance. The situation of Palestinians is only mentioned in one sentence in the entire 5-10 minute reports and its either called "precarious" or they actually manage to, without any emotion, mention that thousands of them died. No concrete number. No details. They can't even be paid that much respect to, to be at least treated as concrete numbers. Not even that. It's an absolute fucking shit show. This is planned disinformation pretending to be valid journalism.

Haven't heard from family in days. I feel like it's time to accept they're gone. I know in my heart Palestine will, one day, be free, but it wasn't supposed to be like this.

We feared another Nakba, and it happened. 700,000 pushed out of their homes in 1948 to 1 million being forced to leave their homes in 2023.

We thought it couldn't get worse or more deadly than the Israeli invasion in 2014, and it happened. We lost 2,251 people in 50 days then. Now we're past 2,300 in one week.

What I heard most from my grandmother the first days it's that "this time is different". And I feel like a rock is crushing my heart in pieces because i've been hoping that speaking out, teaching people about the historical oppresion of Palestine would help but it's not helping. Nothing is changing.

I feel like I'm screaming into a void. There's some sympathy from people online, until I see content documenting Palestinian oppresion being flagged as 'hate speech' or check the comments of any updates on Gaza and it's: "blame it on hamas", "tell them to give up hamas", "the hamas asked for it". They're not even among civilians!!!!!

My heart feels full seeing the manifestations in favor of Palestine, then I see police forces breaking protests apart and remember that the people that can actually save Gaza don't care.

If there's nothing left to do but to watch the extermination of my people, then I'm going to beg for anyone reading this to please don't forget. Please.

Israel is hiding behind Judaism to commit genocide against Gaza. Netanyahu supported the Hamas militant group to prevent the establishment of the Palestine State, and now he's using them to justify his agenda of ethnic cleansing. He abandoned Israelis and left them to die because he cares more about seeing Gazans dead!

Every single person and institution supporting and financing Israel is complicit. I hope the deaths of every Palestinian haunts you for the rest of your lives and that you never find an ounce of forgiveness, for you do not deserve it.

Just as in the Iraq War, the US government is financing and cheering for the slaughter of millions of innocent Arab lives. The media is complicit by engaging in biased propaganda and other nuclear powers, such as the UK and Germany, are complicit too. It's literally stomach turning to see how the German government and media are using current events to promote the revisionist narrative that antisemitism in Germany is a foreign body that has been imported by immigrants in order obscure the BRD's own failure at denazification after 1945 and to warrant tougher immigration laws in the future. They do this by dehumanizing Palestinians as a people, associating their culture with terrorism, banning them from mourning the loss of their families, threatening them with deportation, arresting them, patrolling their neighborhoods, banning their cultural clothing from Berlin schools, using police violence against children, etc, etc. Every Palestinian in Germany right now is standing under general suspicion. The vice chairwoman of the CDU, Karin Prien, stated on the topic of fighting antisemitism in Germany: "We have to take their resonance spaces. Close down their mosques, their cafés their associations and confiscate the money that would otherwise be used for terror in the world." A violently racist statement that is not surprising in a violently racist country that has learned nothing from its history no matter how much it pretends to have done so, having cops terrorize the streets in Berlin Neukölln, the district with the largest Palestinian community in Europe while there are Nazis currently sitting in the Bundestag. INTRODUCTION

Recently, two Australian nurses made headlines for claiming, on video, that they would kill -- and have killed -- Israeli patients. They’ve since been suspended and placed under investigation. Unfortunately, a coalition of Muslim groups from Sydney -- the nurses are Muslim -- have come out in support of the nurses. 

While medical professionals are meant to uphold ethical standards, the truth is that antisemitism in medicine is nothing new. For decades, both Jewish doctors and patients have been subjected to antisemitism from medical professionals. In the United States, for example, prospective Jewish medical professionals were subject to restrictive antisemitic med school quotas until the 1960s. 

A December 2024 study found that about 40% of Jewish American medical professionals have been subjected to antisemitism in their work or study environments; 26.4% of them have even felt threats to their safety. Only 1.9% of anti-bias trainings included any content whatsoever on antisemitism. 

Jewish patients and medical professionals in other countries, such as Australia and the United Kingdom, have reported similar discrimination.

NAZI EUGENICS AND RACIAL ANTISEMITISM

“Scientific racism” (also known as “biological racism”) is a pseudoscientific form of racism that claims there is scientific evidence to justify racial discrimination or the belief that some races are inferior or superior to others. Scientific racism reached its peak and “legitimacy” between 1870 and the end of World War II. The Nazis applied the theories of scientific racism to antisemitism, which in turn was one of the main factors that fueled the Holocaust.

The Nazis believed that it was your “Jewish blood” that determined your Jewishness. In the Nazi hierarchy of race, Jews were placed at the very bottom. The Nazis justified the Jewish genocide with the belief that they had to eradicate the defective “Jewish racial traits.”

It was doctors in Nazi Germany that legitimized the theories of scientific racism and the Nazi persecution of Jews. Doctors in Nazi Germany played a major role in creating and implementing Nazi policies, thus becoming complicit in Nazi crimes against humanity.

NAZI MEDICAL EXPERIMENTS

The Nazis as many as 30 sadistic different non-consensual medical experiments on Jewish concentration camp prisoners. Some of these experiments included cutting off the limbs of prisoners in an attempt to transplant them onto other prisoners, submerging people in subzero temperatures and then attempting to resuscitate them by raping them, serving prisoners seawater instead of drinkable water, defleshing living Jewish prisoners, exposing fresh wounds to mustard gas, and more. The Nazis particularly enjoyed experimenting on twins.

THE RED CROSS AND THE NAZIS

Following Hitler’s rise to power in 1933, the Red Cross chose to “conform” to the new regime, rather than oppose it. In fact, an SS general, Ernst-Robert Grawitz, became the head of the German Red Cross in 1933. Grawitz was closely involved in the plans to murder disabled people and in Nazi medical experimentation. The German Red Cross thus essentially became a Nazi medical unit, rather than a humanitarian organization. When pressed about it, the German Red Cross claimed that, by allying themselves with the Nazi regime, they’d have access to concentration camps, which would ensure that the inmates would be “treated better.” 

In the 1990s, the Red Cross finally officially admitted that they’d long had previous knowledge of the Nazis’ plans for the total extermination of Jews.

As early as 1933, the Red Cross received desperate pleas from prisoners in Dachau concentration camp, begging for intervention. By 1942, the Red Cross had full knowledge of the Germans’ atrocities. In early 1945, the president of the Red Cross wrote, “Concerning the Jewish problem in Germany, we are in close and continual contact with the German authorities.” The use of the phrase “Jewish problem,” of course, is indicative of the attitude of the Red Cross, considering the very same phrase was used in the Nazis’ “final solution to the Jewish problem” (in other words, the Nazi plan for the total genocide of the Jewish People).

A representative of the Red Cross who’d visited several of the camps falsely claimed that other than segregation, “no other discrimination was made against [Jewish POWs].”

By 1943, word of German atrocities toward the Jewish people had spread throughout the world. Following the deportation of ~500 Danish Jews to Theresienstadt, the Danish authorities pressured the International Red Cross to visit the camp/ghetto to check on its conditions.

The Nazis saw this visit as an opportunity to spread their propaganda. Nearly 8000 Jews were immediately sent to Auschwitz to counteract reports of overcrowding in Theresienstadt. In Auschwitz, these Jews were placed in a “special unit” in the event that the Red Cross chose to visit them.

The camp/ghetto was “cleaned up.” For example, buildings were painted and a football field was staged. “Cultural activities” were promoted to create the illusion that the Jewish prisoners were thriving. The Red Cross officials were taken on a tour of a pre-planned route and interviewed prisoners who’d been trained on what to say. Unsurprisingly, the Red Cross left Theresienstadt with a glowing report.

The Red Cross helped thousands of high-level Nazi officials escape justice after the Holocaust. They alone issued around 120,000 travel documents, many to Nazis. They also issued 25,000 new identity documents. It was due to the actions of the Red Cross that high-level war criminals such as Adolf Eichmann and Josef Mengele were able to escape.

DR. MARCEL PETIOT

After the Nazis occupied Paris in June of 1940, Parisian Jews grew desperate to escape. A series of smuggling routes out of France and into Switzerland and Spain began popping up. Dr. Petiot then chose to pose as a member of the French Resistance and claimed to operate a network to help Jews flee France.

Dr. Petiot's so-called "network" was pricy. Those wishing to escape had to pay him the equivalent of $10,000 today.

Petiot would then bring the Jewish refugees to a "safe house" at 21 Rue Le Sueur in Paris, where he would give them the necessary vaccinations for the journey. In reality, he was injecting them with cyanide. They'd die quickly, after which he'd dismember their bodies and dissolve them in quicklime or burn the remains in a furnace.

He would often approach Jews with no family and offer to help them, knowing that no one would come looking for them if they went missing.

It's estimated that he murdered 60-200 people, mostly Jews.

In 1944, his neighbors discovered an odd smell and alerted the police. By then, he had already fled his apartment. When the police showed up, they found body parts everywhere. Several months later, he was arrested at the Paris Metro Station.

After the war, Petiot claimed that the bodies belonged to Nazi collaborators, but the personal belongings of the victims were found in his home, debunking his story. Nevertheless, at his trial, he continued to portray himself as a hero fighting the Nazi occupation. The jury did not buy it, and he was sentenced to death by guillotine. He was executed in 1946.

THE DOCTORS PLOT

The Doctors’ Plot was an antisemitic campaign that took place under the Stalin regime in the Soviet Union. Between 1951-1953, Stalin alleged that Jewish doctors in the Soviet Union had conspired to assassinate Soviet leaders. Jewish doctors were dismissed from their jobs, arrested, and tortured. A massive propaganda campaign warning of the dangers of “Zionism” was enacted throughout the Soviet state. People with Jewish last names were condemned. 

The first allegation in the Doctors’ Plot was made against a Jewish doctor named Yakov Etinger in 1951. According to the MGB, the precursor to the KGB, Etinger had committed malpractice in treating two Communist party leaders. Etinger was imprisoned and died from torture and harsh conditions. 

In 1952, a letter written by a Russian cardiologist in 1948 was recovered. The letter attested that a Communist party leader had suffered a heart attack, but Kremlin doctors had misdiagnosed it and covered up their mistake. Though none of the Kremlin doctors involved in the cover up were Jewish, the Soviet regime added Jewish doctors to the list to portray the cover up as a “Zionist conspiracy.” 

Initially, there were 37 arrests. Under extreme pressure and torture, the Jewish doctors admitted to the alleged plot. But after Stalin’s unexpected death, the Soviet regime admitted no evidence for such a plot existed. The allegations against the Jewish doctors had been entirely fabricated.

THE HOSTAGES

Since the October 7 massacre, a long list of now-released Israeli hostages have testified that they were held captive in hospitals. Israel has also since found dead hostages on Gaza hospital grounds. Former hostage Sharon Aloni Cunio, for example, has said that the nurses and doctors were aware that they were being held captive there; in fact, she said, the nurses “went along with it.” Fawzia Amin Saydo, a Yazidi woman who was captured by ISIS in Iraq at age 11 and sold as a sex slave to a Hamas member in Gaza, has since also testified that Hamas uses hospitals as military bases. As early as 2006, PBS even aired a documentary showing Hamas operating out of Al-Shifa Hospital.

Mia Shem, a former Israeli hostage, was operated on by a veterinarian while in the Gaza Strip. She has since needed extensive surgeries to regain function of her arm.

Today, we call on you, from the midst of massacres and siege, to a new revolutionary phase of comprehensive escalation. We call on you to raise the pace and ceiling of your struggle and your honorable stances, quantitatively and qualitatively, against the institutions, corporations, and governments that participate in the slaughter of our children, our students, and our people.. In Rafah, Jabalia, Khan Younis, and the entire Gaza Strip, and against the settler gangs, armies of Zionist killers, that commit their crimes in camps, cities and villages in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem. We call on you to besiege the White House in Washington, and to surround Western colonial governments and Zionist embassies, and the corporations that finance the Zionist entity and arm its criminal army with all kinds of bombs and means of death and destruction. These criminal colonial symbols represent the forces that support “Israel” to kill us – with your tax money and the money spent at complicit corporations, to destroy our homes, our society, and our future.

Therefore, we call on you to blockade them until the American Zionist aggression against our people in the Gaza Strip stops. At the same time, we renew our call to the teaching, academic, and union bodies in universities, as well as cultural, academic, and scientific figures, to advocate for and support student movements until they achieve their goals. Today we turn to high school students all over the world to participate widely in the struggles and activities of the university student movement, organizing demonstrations, and organizing educational days about the Palestinian struggle for liberation and return.

Secondary schools constitute a strong fortress and a great support for university students everywhere. Once again, we send special greetings to our brothers and sisters, the students of Palestine in the diaspora.

We greet our comrades and colleagues in Students for Justice in Palestine, the Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network, Palestine Action, and the academic boycott and divestment campaigns, and we salute everyone who participated and participates in student encampments. The duty and responsibility of Palestinian students in the Gaza Strip and all of occupied Palestine is steadfastness, commitment, resistance, unity, and alignment with the resistance and the people… …until the U.S. – Zionist aggression stops and the occupation is defeated and removed from our land — all our land, from the river to the sea.

Political Party In Germany 'Calls For Kebabs To Be Subsidised'

The cost of kebabs has become something of a running joke in German politics, with Chancellor Olaf Scholz remarking that everywhere he goes he is asked about it.

Should The Government Subsidise Kebabs?

That's the question in Germany at the moment amid fears the price of the dish could surpass €10 (£8.60).

The German Left Party has reportedly proposed using state funds to cap the price of kebabs at €4.90 (£4.20) - and €2.50 (£2.10) for young people.

The meaty flatbread meal - one of Germany's de facto national dishes - currently averages around €7.9 (£6.80), a number that the Left Party says is going up with inflation.

The cost of kebabs has become something of a running joke in German politics, with Chancellor Olaf Scholz remarking that everywhere he goes he is asked about it.

Kathi Gebel, a member of the Left Party's executive committee, told BILD: "When young people demand: Olaf, make the kebab cheaper, then it's not an internet joke, but a serious cry for help!

"The state must intervene so that food does not become a luxury item."

The newspaper cited a report from Ms Gebel's party, which says that 1.3 billion kebabs are eaten in Germany every year and the proposed subsidies could potentially cost "almost four billion".

Rents and electricity costs for kebab shops are rising, pushing up prices for consumers, the party says.

In the UK, people buying takeaways have faced soaring prices, with the boss of Deliveroo saying in March that food inflation was outpacing wage inflation by about two to one.

The UK government has not made any commitment to a kebab price cap.
