AJ Croce – The Keswick Theatre – Glenside, PA – January 10, 2025
It’s rather amazing that the night of this show would have been the late Jim Croce’s 82nd birthday. Of course, the beloved singer Croce died way too young in a plane crash when he was only 30 years old, and his career was just starting to take off. 52 years later, that leaves two generations of fans to ponder what he may have done had he survived longer. And, of course, it means that very few current people actually had the opportunity to see Croce in concert.
His son, AJ Croce – who was just under two-years-old when his father died – made a respectable name in the music biz for himself for two or three decades before he ever considered taking on his father’s music. Apparently, he felt the need to prove himself as a musician and songwriter before taking on his father’s huge legacy. And while he never quite became as big as his dad, he is a respected and long-working musician, releasing 11 albums (with a 12th coming soon) and getting terrific reviews.
However, in recent years, AJ has started putting together periodic “Croce Plays Croce” shows between his own gigs. This latest show, opening a three-day east coast swing, is being sold as “The Jim Croce Birthday Bash,” which will warm AJ up for his own “Heart of the Eternal” tour which kicks off in February. It’s nice that Croce decided to celebrate his father’s birthday in his native Philadelphia area. Since most people never had the chance to see his father perform, this is as close as we’re going to get to an evening of Jim Croce.
Of course, the concert is not made up of all Jim’s music. AJ performed some of his own songs, as well as some covers of songs which inspired both him and his father as musicians. And there was a special surprise guest star who also did one of his own songs, as well as dueting on one of Jim’s tunes and also a song that the guest wrote with AJ. (More on that later).
Croce was introduced onto the stage with old film footage of his father introducing his toddler Adrian James to the people. Then the stage lights came up and the band came on. AJ Croce came in hot, starting the show with a rollicking piano-based version of his dad’s hit story-song “You Don’t Mess Around With Jim.” With a smoking backing band made up of drummer Gary Mallaber (Van Morrison/Steve Miller Band), bassist/singer David Barard (Dr. John), guitarist/violinist James Pennebaker (Delbert McClinton) and background singers Jackie Wilson and Katrice Donaldson, Croce burned down the house on this one.
Other hits came fast, with a sweet version of “Operator (That’s Not the Way It Feels)” coming a few songs later. AJ explained that his dad had started the song when he was in the military back in the 60s, listening to soldiers calling home. However, it wasn’t until he grew older and experienced loss and tragedy for himself that Croce was ready to finish and record the song.
Then came a couple of smart covers. The first one was “Nothing Can Change My Love” by Sam Cooke. Jim used to cover the song in his early days, and AJ was always a major fan of Cooke’s work. In fact, he told a remarkable story told to him by his early mentor, singer/songwriter Floyd Dixon, about Dixon and Cooke being out with Ray Charles one night, and because they were too drunk, they decided to get Charles – who was blind – to drive them home.
After that came a pounding piano-based cover of Billy Preston’s “Nothing From Nothing.” Other mid-show highlights included terrific takes of “Working at the Car Wash Blues,” “Tomorrow’s Gonna Be a Brighter Day” and “New York Is Not My Home.”
Tumblr media
At the start of a lovely cover of his dad’s “I’ll Have To Say I Love You In a Song,” another Philly-born music legend quietly slipped onto the stage to sing the lead vocals. John Oates (of Hall and Oates fame) took over with AJ singing backing vocals on that song. Oates then told a hysterical story about the last time he had been to Glenside. In his early years as a musician, he had to make some pocket cash teaching guitar at the local Keswick Music Works. (It was open until a few years ago!) However, one day he made the mistake of coming into work high and fell asleep in the middle of a lesson, getting him fired in the process. Oates then did a torrid cover of his own band’s “She’s Gone” (it’s notable how differently Oates handled the vocals than his former bandmate Daryl Hall has always done).
Speaking of different versions of the same song, Oates then announced that he would be doing something new even for him when they did the next song “Reunion,” a song which Oates and AJ Croce wrote together and have both recorded. (The song is the title track of Oates’ latest solo album and will also be on Croce’s upcoming Heart of the Eternal.) Oates explained that they would perform the song in two very different and distinct ways over the course of the one performance, and that they did. Oates started off playing the song as a sweet and pretty acoustic folk-rock ballad. Then Croce took over, turning the song into a jumping New Orleans barrelhouse piano jive.
Another one of the funny anecdotes that AJ told on stage was about when he was eight years old at a Hollywood party with his mom and the host – a rock dude named Rod Stewart – had to lull him to sleep by singing him a ribald Scottish ballad from the 1700s. Then Croce returned the favor by putting together a ripping version of Stewart’s old Faces classic “Stay With Me.”
After a series of more obscure Jim songs requested by the audience (including “Speedball Tucker” and “One Less Set of Footsteps”), Croce pulled out “Name of the Game,” a song which his father was working on but hadn’t finished when he died. Years later, AJ found it and completed the tune, which he called his one true collaboration with his father. Then Croce closed things out with some of the biggest hits, including a joyous run through “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown” – in which he brought out his mother Ingrid to help with backing vocals – and a sweet and slightly sped up take on “I Got a Name.”
The encore started with film footage of Jim singing the first verse of his classic, pensive ballad, “Time in a Bottle,” and then AJ and the band swooped in and took over lead vocals, although his dad did still do some duet parts through the film footage. It was a beautiful and appropriate farewell and tribute to an artist who left the world much too early.

Going back to the Roman Polanski petition and the Epstein files, just the ones I’ve seen so far, it’s so incredibly disheartening seeing how many entertainers and people I generally held in positive regard are on these lists. There is, of course, the chance they didn’t know anything and were just shuttled around as being famous rich people, but...man. They’re on the same list as people we know are cretins, so there’s no way of actually knowing who is and isn’t good. It’s like trying to tell which porn is and isn’t consensual, you just can’t.
anyway here’s a list so far of all the elites named in the epstein files, or who supported roman polanski’s relase after he was arrested for raping a teenage girl:

Ikemen Notes! Ikemen Pets!
Hello fellow Princesses, Time-Travelers, Waitress and Rabbit Chasers!
I received an ask for a list of all the suitors and their pets. Honestly I think I could greatly benefit form making notes on the suitors from all the games. It would make writing so much easier if I had some notes on each of the suitors routes.
Alright if I’m being honest here I don’t know all the suitors pets. Whether it be the animal type or name I don’t know them all. If you want to comment the answers I’ll add you to the contributors list.

Christopher Cross & Justin Hayward – Keswick Theatre – Glenside, PA – July 10, 2024
It seems almost a slightly weird lineup to put Christopher Cross and Justin Hayward on the same bill. However, this is the second straight year that the two have played the Keswick together, so something must be working right.
Cross is the early 1980s superstar whose debut self-titled album was a cultural phenomenon. Christopher Cross featured four top-40 hits: “Ride Like the Wind,” “Sailing,” “Never Be the Same,” and “Say You’ll Be Mine.” It also won Cross six Grammys, including “Song of The Year,” “Record of the Year” and “Best New Artist.” Cross followed up that album with quite possibly his biggest hit, the movie soundtrack song “Arthur’s Theme (The Best That You Can Do).” By the time his second album Another Page was released in 1983, he still had three top 40 hits: “All Right,” “No Time For Talk” and “Think of Laura.” However, the album sales were disappointing, and the writing was on the wall – he would never have another top 40 hit. Still, over the years he has been a popular touring artist, getting even more so in recent years.
Unlike the quick but explosive career of Cross, Justin Hayward was much more of a slow and steady win the day type of career. Hayward was the lead vocalist for The Moody Blues – an early prog rock band from the 1960s who ratcheted up the rock in the 1970s and eventually polished up their pop sound by the 1980s. Hayward joined the band for their second album, and sang on multiple hit singles from 1968 to 1988 – including “Nights In White Satin,” “Tuesday Afternoon,” “I’m Just A Singer in a Rock and Roll Band,” “Question,” “Gemini Dream,” “The Voice,” “Your Wildest Dreams” and “I Know You’re Out There Somewhere.”
Both very good, important musical careers, but somewhat different musically. Still, they worked surprisingly well together.
Tumblr media
The opening act for the show was guitarist Mike Dawes, a unique player who showed how he could make an acoustic guitar sound like all sorts of other instruments, including a bass and a drum. Dawes did three technically proficient instrumental tunes, an eclectic original called “Boogie Shred,” and then tasteful covers of Van Halen’s “Jump,” and Gotye’s “Someone That I Used To Know.”
As Dawes started into his fourth tune, you couldn’t help but notice how much it sounded like The Moody Blues’ “Tuesday Afternoon.” Dawes continued playing as, without a pause, Justin Hayward’s band joined him, sliding seamlessly into the show’s second act with no delay. First up was former Moody Blues’ keyboardist Julie Ragins (she was with the touring band for the last 12 years that they toured from 2006 to 2018), who nailed the song’s distinctive piano line. Then multi-instrumentalist Karmen Gould (she mostly played flutes, recorders, woodwinds and tambourine) joined the song. Then, finally Hayward stepped in the slide zone and to the mike to recapture the angelic vocals that he had originally laid down about 56 years earlier.
In general, Hayward’s performances tend to be more acoustically based than his old days with the Moodies, although a few times Dawes pulled out an electric guitar to accompany some songs. Therefore, old standbys like “The Voice” and “Forever Autumn” (a Hayward solo track from the 1970s favorite Jeff Wayne rock opera War of the Worlds) lose a lot of the expansive majesty of the original studio versions, but at the same time they do gain a bit of intimacy.
Tumblr media
Hayward dipped liberally into both his old band’s songbook and his own solo work. In fact, at one point he did a five-song medley of obscurities that even Hayward acknowledged was a strange grouping of songs, but one that he has used for years for practice that at some point he decided to just add to the setlist.
Of course, people were there for the hits, and they came out in strength as Hayward stormed towards the encore. First, he did a wistful version of his last truly huge Moody Blue’s hit – the melancholic 1986 pop love song “Your Wildest Dreams,” which still had a sweet innocence and propulsive catchiness. Then came arguably the wildest performance of night, a rambling and passionate take on the old classic “Question,” a song full of dramatic tempo changes, false endings and some truly shredding guitar.
Tumblr media
Then Hayward slowed down for the band’s best-known standard, the majestic psychedelic classic “Nights in White Satin,” which still sounds undeniably gorgeous all these years later.
As his set started, Christopher Cross hit the stage with two of his bigger hits – although ones that may not have stood the test of time quite as well as his three or four standards. First off was the poptastic “All Right,” which still skips along spritely over forty years on from its chart run. And then, doubling down on the pop vibes, he and his band stormed through what is quite possibly my favorite song of Cross’ career, “Never Be the Same,” which is truly gorgeous and deceptively happy sounding with some really sad breakup lyrics.
Travelling with a pretty huge band (nine players including backing vocalists) there was some spectacular musicianship here. Particularly impressive were the jazzy keyboardist Jerry Leonide and saxophonist Andy Suzuki, who both stunned in their spotlight moments. However, everyone in the group sounded tight, including drummer Francis Arnaud, bassist Kevin Reveyrand, and backing vocalists Jewelee Peters, Lisbet Guidback, Julia Sarr and Stephcynie.
Tumblr media
Not surprisingly, Cross did a wide cross-section of songs from his classic 1980 debut album, and not just the multiple hits the album spawned. (In fact, he didn’t play the fourth hit single from that album, “Say You’ll Be Mine.”) For example, the sweet and melancholy “I Really Don’t Know Anymore” still feels wonderfully yearning and pained. The sweet and just slightly salty “Minstrel Gigolo” and “The Light is On” also still feel like they would have also been hits in a more just world.
Of course, Cross had more than his share of hits in his heyday. About five songs in he did his all-time classic “Sailing,” which is a sweet and near-perfect view of living with nature. (Sadly, “Sailing” is probably as inadvertently responsible as any song for birthing the obnoxious and patronizing term “yacht rock” into public discourse.)
Two songs later, Cross pulled out his classic movie theme, “Arthur’s Theme (The Best That You Can Do),” which he dedicated to his recently passed old friend and collaborator Burt Bacharach. “Arthur’s Theme” is still a truly gorgeous song (although people still are trying to decode the line “When you get caught between the moon and New York City”) and it sounded grand here, particularly because of Suzuki’s stunning sax solo.
Cross closed things out with his two other biggest hits, the wondrous rock theatrics of “Ride Like the Wind” and then finished with his softly anguished tribute to a friend who had died, “Think of Laura.”
After seeing these two artists in the new millennium, maybe the whole idea of “Never Be the Same” will have to be reexamined.

i just wanted to thank you for sharing your content with us, i love your tumblr and you look like you are a really good person ♥️✨🌸 i wanted to ask something too: who are your favorite suitors of ikevamp, ikesen and ikerev! pd: i hope you are doing great!!!
heya! i’ve answered asks about this in the past, but i think it’s time to update my answer and include the new games! forgive me if i copy/paste parts of my old answers (because it makes it easier for me that way haha). also, thank you! i do my best to keep everything pleasant. ♡
i don’t really think of any character as a least favorite. i always give equal time to all the suitors/warlords, with byron and victor being the only ones above. some characters don’t interest me as much as the others, so they’re put in lower tiers-- but i still like them and read their stuff. i like knowing what i can haha. the most i can give is a ranking. i’ve given one before, and i’ll copy paste most of it lol. ♪
i actually put them in tiers because some are really just on a par with each other. also, they may be my favorite but that doesn’t mean i’d see them in a romantic way (unless there’s a ♡). nico for example– i just really like his character and route story! or nobunaga, i just find him really amusing and i love his route~ (º◡º)

RWRB Study Guide, Chapter 8
Hi y’all! I’m going through Casey McQuiston’s Red, White & Royal Blue and defining/explaining references! Feel free to follow along, or block the tag #rwrbStudyGuide if you’re not interested!
James I (203): James I/VI (First of England, Sixth of Scotland) is known for both translating the Bible and being just... so, so incredibly gay. The book mentions that he promoted a dumb jock to gentleman of the bedchamber, but it leaves out that 13-year-old James would just make out with dudes in public, and that the dumb jock (George Villers) was James’s third serious adult relationship. His friends introduced him to George because his last boyfriend was bad for the kingdom.
George Eliot (205): Mary Anne Evans wrote under the pen name George Eliot to escape the stereotype that women could only write romances. She wrote seven novels, of which Middlemarch is the most famous, known for their realism and psychological insight.
Daniel Defoe (205): A pioneer of the English novel, Defoe wrote Robinson Crusoe as well as a series of divisive political pamphlets and tracts.
Jonathan Swift (205): Irish political writer most famous for A Modest Proposal, a satirical piece that suggests cannibalism of infants as a more humane response to the British treatment of Ireland than letting them grow to starve in adulthood.
Dickens... “woman who languishes away in a crumbling mansion wearing her wedding gown” (205): Charles Dickens wrote stories concerned with the lower classes. This quote in particular refers to Miss Havisham from Great Expectations, who was left at the altar and refused to take off her wedding dress or even put away the food set out for the wedding.
Sense and Sensibility (205): This is probably Austen’s second most popular novel (after Pride and Prejudice); it follows the four Dashwood women in their move to a new home following the death of Mr. Dashwood. Like most of Austen’s novels, the opinionated narrator follows the women through a series of romantic mishaps, culminating in a happy ending.
Green American Money (206): Fun fact, British money is blue and orange and purple and all sorts of fun colors! It also all looks different, because (at least in Scotland) four banks are allowed to print pound notes, so there are four different designs all in circulation.
Sean Hannity (206): A conservative American political commentator.
Harvard rowing (206): Rowing is like... the bougiest of sports.
Pleiad (206): In Greek mythology, the pleiades were the daughters of the titan Atlas who became stars following his entrapment under the earth. *every time I read this, I flinch just a little bit. Baroque architecture is just... so much, and the concept of a Baroque bed when beds/bedrooms are supposed to be simple to help you rest... It’s just so much and I hate it with all of my being. I’m sorry if you like Baroque furniture, but especially for Henry, who dreams of a simple life where he can just write and be anonymous... It’s a big yikes.
** Literally no one asked, but his stuff is just... it’s so boring? Like I’m sure it’s great to fall asleep to or calm down to, but I tried to listen to it while I wrote this and I just couldn’t. Liszt is better, but he’s no Mozart. Also? Mozart wrote BOPS. ONLY. “The Birdcatcher’s Song” slaps and no one can change my mind on that.

If there’s anything I missed or that you’d like more on, please let me know! And if you’d like to/are able, please consider buying me a ko-fi? I know not everyone can, and that’s fine, but these things take a lot of time/work and I’d really appreciate it!
