The Meadow Gate

The Meadow Gate is one of the only know locations cut from the original Drawn to Life. It was originally intended to be the fourth gate, between the Beach and City Gates. According to an insider source who has asked to remain anonymous, Chow Chern Fai and Karina Lye See Mun were responsible for the vast majority of art related to the Meadow Gate.

Thanks to a different anonymous source, we know the intended plot of the Meadow Gate in it's entirety, paraphrased below:

After the defeat of the Angler King and the rescue of Count Choco, the village began to be invaded by Shadow Pests (presumably Shadow Walkers), who were infecting the water supply. After a few levels of unrelated tasks, the Hero is tasked with sounding an alarm and rounding up the Shadow Pests. After this attack, many villagers are given the poisoned water on accident. The Mayor then sends the Hero into the Meadow Gate again to defeat the cause of the infestation, Rata, Tat & Tat, a trio of rats acting as the boss of the gate.

After being defeated, they would have transformed into the Three Blind Raposa, who would have given the Hero a key to a Village Hatch, possibly the Secret Gate.

As for rescued Raposa and Templates in the preceding levels:

The Hero attachment for this gate would have been the Pet, a dog-like creature who could run faster than the Hero and could have been ridden around.

I love the thought you are putting into James and Boyd. Like for this poll that is your endgame dynamic. You know your golden children and you've prioritized.

During the poll for Commissioner Gordon and Commander Fox (which was a lovely image thank you) I had a similar moment. Like I could keep coming up with propaganda for them. But...they're not my favorite that's still in the running.

So I left them to the fate and whims of the voters and saved my energy. Also, I feel like Commander Fox and Commissioner Gordon would have wanted Beaks to be continued to be tormented. They've had their fair share of rich jerks they couldn't touch. It's nice to see one get what they deserve.

Thanks! One thing I've learned as a pollrunner that really surprised me is that I have a very strong sense of fairness that comes into play, and trying to balance that while also not pretending that I don't have my own preferences is tricky- it wouldn't be fair if I went around talking about how great all of my personal pet submissions are, so I decided to just prioritize. James and Boyd mean so much to me; quite apart from how much of DTLS is such a big part of my life in so many ways, James and Boyd are very much a projection of my relationship with my own best friend. While we are certainly not the same people as them, we both identify with our respective fave to the point of taking their names, and both identify them as, respectively, closet key and egg cracker for our identities. Boyd means everything to me because my friend Boyd means everything to me, and so his relationship with James, who means so much to me as well, is all tangled up in those feelings. As much as I love all of our other DTLS dynamics and crossover relationships, none of them are ever going to mean as much to me as those two do.

Okay so guys, hear me out: Dangan Ronpa x JJBA AU

Lemme just preface this by saying that this AU isn’t going to be a 1 to 1 kinda thing, Imma switch things around a fair. Also this is by no means a fleshed out AU.

Character Roles that I’m pretty Confident about:

Dio: Of course, he’s the mastermind and Ultimate Despair JUNKO! But he’s also kinda Celeste in a way. (Explanations coming up)

Diego: Mukuro

Pucci: ALSO Mukuro

Vanilla Ice: Nagito

Protags are OBVIOUSLY the one and only JOESTARS! Makoto is Jonathan, Hajime is Joseph, and Shuichi is Jotaro, all of these fit almost perfectly imo.

Erina: Sayaka (probably should let you know there will be a lot of Ultimates switching around.

Speedwagon: Kyoko

Zeppeli: Byakuya (this one’s a bit iffy)

Kakyoin: Either Kaede or Kaito. Leaning towards Kaede

There is NO K*kichi O*ma mainly because I fucking hate him but feel free to have your own ideas for grape soda man if you’d like

General Plot I’ve come up With:

Ultimate Gentleman Jonathan wakes up in a classroom and finds that he’s trapped in school with some other students including his childhood friend and Ultimate Nurse, Erina. The most famous presence there is the Ultimate Chess Grandmaster, Dio Brando(who’s really Diego). Soon, a half black and half white robotic bird with one red eye and beak stretching into a sinister grin on one side, introduces itself as Pet Shop, the school’s ‘headmaster’. Everyone is shocked when the rules are announced and ��Dio” steps up to to speak up, furiously kicking the bird as he demands that they be freed only for everyone to be horrified when spikes suddenly impale “Dio”, causing him to slump over and die. Now everyone knows this is serious. Later the first motive is introduced and Erina is terrified that her family is being held hostage and is forced to betray Jonathan and switches rooms with him. Next morning Erina’s body is found…..

Class trials and death, Etc, etc, now the End:

A discovery is made! The first person to die wasn’t actually Dio, but rather his twin, Diego, who was disguised as Dio. Once the truth is exposed, Dio comes out (“I’m bisexual.” “Okay that’s cool but you literally made us murder our friends”). Monologue, monologue, now this is why I also gave Dio Celeste qualities, I feel like they have a lot in common (liars from poor backgrounds trying to present themselves as their idealized versions and having a desire to be rich and powerful and disconnected from their past selves.) Speedwagon or Zeppeli are like “Well, I suppose this is checkmate.” and although Dio is unapologetically flaunting his status as the mastermind and having a whole despairgasm and everything, Dio’s still Dio and being told that he lost pisses him off because NO, HE DIDN’T LOSE, THIS IS ALL ACCORDING TO HIS PLAN. And he has a very Celeste-esque temper flare (“hahaha….HAHAHAHAHA! Don't make me laugh, you idiot! What do you mean, checkmate!?”) and he’s like go ahead and execute me then. He doesn’t actually want to die, unlike Junko, because he prefers others' despair to his own, and like Celeste, he goes through the Ultimate Punishment smiling. Like Celeste, he believes “Until the game's over, you never know what might happen!” and in his head, he NEVER loses, so at the end when the crusher stalls he’s all cocky….until it stops stalling and he is crushed.

Now since my brain is tired, here’re some bits and pieces:

Joseph is the SHSL Anthropologist

Jotaro is the SHSL Marine Biologist

Mukuro is split up into two characters because I just felt it fit better that way. Diego is the “sibling Mukuro”, he doesn’t really vibe with what Dio does but helps him nonetheless because they’re brothers and Pucci is the “100% Devoted Would do Anything for Dio'' who's the one dtl (down to lobotomize) and looks up to Dio affectionately (basically Anime Mukuro?). They have a significantly less toxic relationship than Mukuro and Junko because Dio doesn’t berate and constantly try to kill Pucci (they’re fwends 🥺🥺) and uh none of the weird incestuous undertones??)?!! Seriously wtf animeronpa…

(Also now I’m just thinking about Bradford somehow getting the cast of DTLS AU into his storage unit of cameos so he can get rid of them alongside everyone else. And while it definitely/probably isn’t canon to the AU, many possibilities involving the thought of it are hilarious.

Like somehow he finds the ability to break Ozma’s spell over himself and Salem, yet still manages to keep Salem confined in one of those boxes. He managed to store a bunch of Greek and Norse Gods somehow, he’d probably find a way to do that. Would he know enough about them to ‘store’ them near one another? God, the tension from everyone in the Twin Cities close enough to witness the two of them if that was the case.

James: *Punching the glass to try and get himself and Ciel out of their container* Qrow: Hmm. Maybe taking your shirt off will help make your punches stronger. I think it will definitely help.

Penny’s just chilling by the time Boyd and Gosalyn roll up and Boyd sees her and goes ‘Hi, Penny! I’m a head now! :D’ ‘Neat :D! Although I do hope you get your body back soon, it will make it very hard for us to go flying together without your rockets.’

Tyrian scuttling up the walls of his box and making faces at Mark in his. They are next to one another because it’s funny to torment Mark.

Clover losing his mind at having to listen to Fenton try and explain that he is Gizmoduck to Darkwing and Darkwing just being...so, so stupid. It doesn’t get any better when Darkwing also makes some offhanded comment about how Ace isn’t faring any better because at least Gizmojerk showed up to the fight. Cue Clover just screaming into his hands while Fenton pets the side of the glass sympathetically.

Just saying, if Bradford got EVERYONE who was ever involved with the McDucks, it opens up the door for fun ideas.)

There's a serious lack of artsy Wilfre content in the DtL fandom. Like, he drew Creator knows how many things and living beings that were supposed to stop the hero. He possibly drew his giant scorpion pet from the first game. Unlike the clouds in the first game, you didn't need to draw those moving rainclouds in the Wasteland. They were already there. Maybe Wilfre drew those too. Heck he literally drew his 'ultimate creation' in front of the hero's eyes. There even are portraits painted by him in the Wii game that are like everywhere in Shadow City. The entire damn game series is about art and drawing. How are we all sleeping on this??

Each Ieyasu is resistant to saying what is really on their mind, a product of their forced captivity during childhood. 

They each have a complicated relationship with Nobunaga, but both are loyal to their alliance with him. 

SLBP Ieyasu is not particularly fond of animals, and IkeSen Ieyasu appears to only like his deer, Wasabi, although he will tend to other animals if he’s asked.

Both have PTSD, and both show a dislike of Mitsunari, but for different reasons: IkeSen Yasu doesn’t like Mitsunari because he is skillful at just about anything, without much effort, but wastes his talents. 

SLBP Yasu doesn’t like how similar Mitsunari is to himself, with Mitsunari feeling the same way– he sees too much of himself in Ieyasu.

Toshiie is one of Nobunaga’s generals, and the leader of Nobunaga’s Red Cloaks. He is a berserker in battle, and also the MC’s childhood friend. 

Like IkeSen’s Hideyoshi, he’s ready to put aside his siscon ways.

Heterochromia is featured in both games, with IkeSen Kenshin and SLBP Masamune having the same colored eyes, but in mirrored positions:

IkeSen tends to drop little hints about historic battles, and sometimes there is even a reference or two thrown in, in events, but no meaningful context given.

This allows the joke to fly over the heads of readers who haven’t read much about, or may have forgotten, the achievements of the Sengoku-era samurai.

Example:

Chatelaine is referring to the Battle of Sekigahara in which Mitsunari was executed for going against the Tokugawa. 

His head was cut off and put on a pike. Sasuke, who is an Ieyasu fanboy, would react with no enthusiasm, seen above, when seeing Mitsunari, who betrayed his idol.

In SLBP, you are often along for the ride during important battles and skirmishes, and the Diary will fill you in on tidbits of the time, to help you keep up, but it doesn’t hammer history down your throat.

There is no way to earn free currency in IkeSen, but in SLBP, you can earn pearls to buy epilogues, special stories, attire, or closet and castle space, all for free, with no daily limit.

It is much easier to play for free in SLBP than in IkeSen, where you have to scrounge around for closet space and stamina items.

Earning the pearls is random, but having lots of coins to use in the Lottery increases your chances, and so does visiting your allies each day. You can also win pearls as prizes in events.

Energy replenishes every four hours in IkeSen, and every five hours in SLBP.

IkeSen has a monthly log-in card, while SLBP gives you one for the first month of you joining the game.  

The frequency of smut is higher in SLBP, with all characters having steamy side stories, whereas in IkeSen, the smut is usually relegated to certain characters.

In IkeSen, much of the comedy comes from Chatelaine, and in SLBP it comes from frequently appearing side characters.

You get five free tickets to read the main story, in both games. In each game, there are events where reading the main story will give you free attire.

Each game has collection and story events. In SLBP, your lord is in your castle just like in IkeSen, but he has speech bubbles that you can read. There is currently no voice acting in English SLBP, but you can hear the character voices by scrolling down to the bottom of the page and clicking their pictures.

There is no time travel in SLBP– you’re born in that era. You work at your family’s restaurant, before joining your lord at his castle.

The MC in SLBP is not as world-wise as the one in IkeSen, and as such, is MidCin Princess-levels of flustered when it comes to romance.

The MC that is most like Chatelaine, to me, is Kojuro’s MC who learns to fight and fend for herself. She isn’t a push over, like some of the other avatars.

You may also like Mitsunari’s, Ieyasu’s, Yukimura’s, and Saizō’s MCs.

I really like both games. They fulfill different purposes, focus on different aspects, and each have their own place as far as entertainment value goes.

11. Top favorite LIs based on visual design? @_@ ummm oh gosh, that’s a hard question XD I think I would have to say that I am usually drawn to character designs that either are dark-haired/light-eyed or white-haired/red-eyed. It’s funny, I do tend to like guys who have darker hair a lot of the time in these games (Jumin, Nobunaga, Byron, etc.) but something about the dudes with white hair and red eyes are very pleasing to look at as well. I know that scientifically speaking, albinism is a genetic defect and people who have it have health issues, but dang it anime and otome designs make characters with this coloring look so cool! I do like guys with eyepatches too. Why does it make them appealing??? No idea! It usually means the poor guys are blinded or only have one eye, but maybe that’s part of the appeal, that they have gone beyond that hindrance and are stronger for it? idk lol

So, I guess if I would have to pick out of all the guys I’ve seen in games (and this is super hard because there’s at least one aspect of most every guy that I like): Nobunaga (with his gray tips of hair), Byron, Jisoo, IkeSen Masamune, Leo Crawford, Zen, Rayvis, Ace Spade and Mori Motonari. Also, and I know this has gotten long, Byron in particular has this mysterious, almost gothic aura about him with his dark clothes and owl as a pet, as well as his love for the night sky. The inner Victorian goth in me loves the snot out of his aesthetic.

12. What is your favorite plot from an otome game? I would say it’s either the plot of Ikemen Sengoku or the plot of Shall We Date: Niflheim. I like time travel stuff because of all the risks that occur in it. Also, IkeSen goes beyond its sister time-travel game, Destined to Love, in that we get an actual explanation how she travels back in time. It’s kinda like the romance film Kate&Leopold mixed with the action film Timeline, just with Samurai warlords. And unlike DtL, there’s the issue of her and Sasuke’s presence in the 15thC affecting the timeline of history itself. DtL has this kinda sloppy explanation of how MC’s presence is destiny for the suitor’s lives or something…whatever… idk lol (and sorry if it seems like I don’t like DtL. I don’t think it’s the best, but I’m ok with it). 

And Niflheim is also a cool idea. As I’ve said in another post, it’s like Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride married the movie Book of Life or Pixar’s Coco and had a baby that likes romance novels. You’re a Princess who sadly died at a young age who’s soul?? I guess?? is brought to the underworld because the king wants to marry you. Idc it’s cute and I like the colors and artwork and the look of the world and it’s characters. The game is dead (GET IT???) tho which is kind of a shame.

15. Which LI do you think you’re most like? Jumin Han, maybe? I’m far from rich and I don’t drink wine, but I love cats almost more than I love people, and I’m kind of reserved unless you know me. I also prefer to be alone and I know the feeling of not having a lot of friends..heh..  Though I do think I express my emotions better than he does and I don’t have family issues lol He’s snarky too, which I can also be.

You Won’t Even Recognize Lucille Ball Before Her ‘I Love Lucy’ Days

Lucille Ball was a star in more ways than one. She was a television pioneer, a trailblazing feminist and a style icon. 

During her long career in the entertainment industry, Ball, whose 107th birthday would have been Monday, appeared in over 70 films. But it was her role as Lucy Ricardo in the classic ���I Love Lucy” that left the biggest mark on TV. Not only was Ball one of the first female comedic leads on TV, she was the first woman to own her own production company, Desilu Productions. (She co-owned it with her then-husband of 20 years, Desi Arnaz, but she bought him out when they divorced.)

Before all that, Ball got her start as a model in the 1930s and, according to Vogue, she worked for New York designer Hattie Carnegie. In those days, Ball’s signature red locks were bleached blond (she was actually a brunette). 

Her time in the fashion industry likely had some influence on the star’s style, which Vogue described as the “casual American look.” She often wore the popular fit-and-flare silhouette in the ’50s, reminiscent of Dior’s New Look, but looked just as stylish in jeans or tailored separates. They'd all be pretty surprised at first. I feel like Mari, Jowee and Wilfre would quickly more or less understand what's going on since they knew about Mike and while Mari and Jowee would rather be relieved to be alive and that Mike and Heather are fine, Wilfre would probably be afraid that they would do anything to him out of revenge.
