Una lucertola con la pelle di donna (A Lizard in a Woman's Skin, 1971)
"You dream of having an affair with this woman who lives next door. To you, that woman represents sin, moral degradation. The house next door is a symbol of vice. From what you've told me, Mrs. Durer is not exactly respectable."
"No... she certainly is not."
#una lucertola con la pelle di donna#a lizard in a woman's skin#lucio fulci#italian cinema#1971#roberto gianviti#josé luis martínez mollá#florinda bolkan#stanley baker#jean sorel#silvia monti#alberto de mendoza#penny brown#mike kennedy#ely galleani#george rigaud#leo genn#anita strindberg#basil dignam#ennio morricone#mesmerising. ymmv of course‚ and this does seem to be fairly divisive; I've read reviews by people who hated this or (even stranger to me)#found it to be poorly made. well not so‚ say i. Fulci in unusually restrained form‚ still stylish as all hell‚ but not allowing the visual#flourishes and artful winks at the audience to drown out the narrative. the plot itself is a twisty turny thing and almost in danger of#getting too involved in itself‚ but it all pulls together by the close. hard to see in the uk for many years because of a scene of animal#cruelty which ironically‚ for once in an Italian film‚ wasn't real but fx work; albeit fx work so convincing that it actually led to a cour#case and fx maestro Carlo Rambaldi having to demonstrate the effect in front of a jury to prevent Fulci potentially receiving a prison#sentence (or so the story goes). a longer waffling review is on my letterboxd but suffice to say that‚ for me personally‚ this was a hugely#satisfying watch after many years of anticipation. Bolkan is fascinating‚ mercurial; Strindberg (strangely uncredited) is understood only#from the pov of other characters; Baker is a wonderfully cold‚ dispassionate investigator of terrible crimes. and it all looks beautiful#plus it's one of a very few gialli set in the uk to actually bother going there to film! which means unexpected brit character actors!

Poll: Favourite of these Horror acting legends?
Tumblr media
Yes, obviously I know these actors were known for and could do a lot more than just this genre. But come on? When you think of most of these actors what's the first thing that comes into your mind?
and again I can only have 12 choices.

One of my favourite micro-genres, especially growing up, was books about kids or teens running away from home and living in unusual places. Some of these are more serious and involve leaving abusive homes. Others, the home life and excuse for leaving is entirely perfunctory and the adventure is the point. The common theme is that the kid leaves voluntarily (isn’t stranded somewhere, but goes there specifically) and then ends up living independently in some unique setting that gives the story a large part of its identity.
My Side of the Mountain — inside a tree in the Catskills
From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler — the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art
Maniac Magee — inside a buffalo house in the zoo, in a baseball stadium, and more
The Invention of Hugo Cabret — a grand Parisian train station
notabookbut The Kings of Summer — a homemade shanty in the Ohio woods
Last Sam’s Cage — the Calgary Zoo
The Boxcar Children — a freight car
Suggest more if you can think of any, I know there are lots of other examples.

I need everyone to watch International Lady, become as obsessed with it as I am, and start writing M/M/F fic about the characters. Please. An FBI agent (George Brent) and a Scotland Yard Detective (Basil Rathbone) are both after a concert singer (Ilona Massey) who they suspect is one part of a large spy ring that have been sabotaging American war planes. It's seriously so good, not just jingoistic war time propaganda bullshit. The three leads came off so throupley, I was screaming. And Baz in particular is so adorable every time he's confused by American slang or insists on doing his own investigation independent of the FBI but always manages to be in the same place as Brent and looks so happy every time it happens LOL.
My favorite moment is when Baz is exhausted after being up all night trying to crack the spy code they intercepted and is napping on a couch. A call comes into the FBI that Brent's boss tells him to listen in on and Brent grabs the phone and says to Baz, "Wake up, sweetheart, you'll want to hear this" and then THEY PUT THEIR HEADS TOGETHER TO LISTEN. GUYS. GUYS I'M TELLING YOU. PLEASE WATCH THIS.
