Not to project my immediate struggles onto my faves or anything but…
The hardest thing Genesis Rhapsodos has ever done is not dealing with degradation. It’s writing his Masters Dissertation for classical Literature.
I can just imagine the whole ordeal is just one big never-ending assembly line of predicaments.
Angeal being the one who has to keep reminding him to do it.
Sephiroth unhelpfully pointing out that procrastination is counterintuitive. Which leads to Genesis launching himself across the table at him.
Angeal being the one to de-escalate his stress related Sephicide attempts.
Sephiroth thinking he’s being helpful by pointing out mistakes over Gens shoulder.
Angeal having to drag Genesis away to calm down.
Sephiroth asking him if he got anything done today?
Genesis having a panic attack because “no, I didn’t. I stared at inane Moogtube videos instead,”.
Sephiroth reminding him how many he days he has left to complete the task every morning.
Angeal having to wipe up Sephiroth’s nose blood from the kitchen floor.
Genesis waking up in the middle of the night to cry, panic, cry and then get cuddled and told he can do it.
Sephiroth telling him certain sections of his argument seem convoluted in places.
Angeal having to help him untangle the barrel brush Gen attacked him with from his hair.
Genesis needing to inform his dissertation tutor that “please hold, my heart is trying to escape my chest” because he got stuck in overwhelmed paralysis for four weeks and has achieved nothing.
Sephiroth suggesting he let this one go.
Genesis unexpectedly bursting into tears over it.
Angeal makes Seph apologies for insinuating Genesis couldn’t manage it.
Genesis finally getting into the flow two weeks before.
Sephiroth having to rescue Angeal from Genesis’ rage when he decides to clean and keeps coming in and out of Gens bedroom.
It getting handed in with the sentiment “I don’t fucking care anymore I’m over it!”
Angeal and Sephiroth watching him panic for the next three weeks while somebody far away takes forever to mark his dissertation.
Genesis repeating that he doesn’t care. He does, in fact, care.
Genesis passing.
Angeal and Sephiroth being proud of him.
Genesis saying “Im never doing that Again!!”
Him doing it again.
Am I projecting? Oh, 100% yeah. Only difference is Im not doing it again!

FF7 Headcanons – Do They Like Their Partner Playing In Their Hair?
I write sometimes so Imma put some Final Fantasy VII headcannons here in honor of tomorrow’s release 🍷🍾
Tumblr media
Cloud Strife – He absolutely does, he also absolutely won’t own up to it because he’s EMBARRASED. That said, if you really wanna hear him say it that badly, you can always threaten to never do it again. He’ll pout, complain softly, and confess. THEN he’ll immediately ask you to do it.
Tifa Lockhart – YesssSS, she adores it! But she makes you wait until you’re alone to do it because she is CONVINCED she makes questionable faces when you do it. She does. She does make those faces-
Aerith Gainsborough – You’d better believe she does and is happy to return the favor! She might actually be better than you at it though…awesome scalp massages.
Barett Wallance – Not really…? But he can be convinced. Especially after a long, hard day and a hot shower.
Cid Highwind – NOPE. Don’t even try it, you’ll get an earful and will NEVER hear the end of it, I assure you.
Vincent Valentine – He is FIRMLY on the fence about it. On one hand, it feels amazing and he really does love it. On the other hand, he’s still convinced he just doesn’t deserve that kindness, from you or anyone. You may or may not be able to get him to agree to it, depending on the day.
Reeve Tuesti – He does indeed like it and he is also not afraid to ask for it. Hell, he’ll ask for it mid-speech sometimes, right in the middle of the explaining something to the party members. You will probably say no.
Reno Sinclair – YES, for the love of God, PLEASE play in his hair. I cannot stress this enough, HE HAS NO SHAME. He will beg, with or without company, outside or inside your home. He does not care how it looks to those around him, he’s a man that knows what he wants an when he wants it.
Rude – I wheeze, but yes. He enjoys…scalp massages.
Elena – She actually only likes it when and if you wash her hair for her while you’re doing it, something about the combination of nails and water – she’s a little strange, but it’s cute.
Tseng – Another fence straddler, but he’s a lot easier to convince. For him, it’s about intimacy, something you two share that he doesn’t wanna share with anyone else so it stays in home – because he’s a little possessive.
Rufus Shinra – Oh yes, he definitely enjoys it – he’d ask for it more if it didn’t mess up his hair so much before meetings. He’s always got this smug look on his face when he teasingly asks though, so that’s a thing. Also possessive.
!! BONUS !!
Zack Fair – He’s got this lopsided grin on his face when you first ask him because he’s never had someone ask. But after the first time, he’s almost like a puppy.
Genesis Rhapsodos – He does like it, but he saves that sort of intimacy for after…‘The act’. Makes it more special. I think he’s just dramatic, honestly.
Angeal Hewley – Apprehensionnn, but if he’s feeling particularly stressed he may let you do it. It’s a hard sell though, be strong soldier.
Sephiroth – YES, thoroughly enjoys someone playing in his hair but understands they could be there for a while given the length of his luxurious locks – not that he minds. He could sit there all day, grinning and praising you for your time and effort. Unnecessarily suave, always.

Hojo half-sibling au but cloud already been fucking gen before seph know he have a brother. Just for the lol.
It all started so simply — which, looking back at it, should have been Cloud’s first and largest red flag. Nothing in his life was ever anything other than complicated. He was “that Strife boy”, Nibelheim’s town bastard, almost an entire town’s dirty little secret.
(Not his mom’s though. Never his mom’s. She would always press a kiss to his crown of spikes that was so much like her own and tell him that he was her wonder. A gift from the gods themselves.)
But it all started so simply…
It started with a mandatory paternity test as a part of joining the SOLDIER program.
Getting to SOLDIER hadn’t been so simple. That had begun with an unlikely friendship between Zack Fair and some poor trooper with unfortunate amounts of motion sickness. Zack, upon hearing about Cloud’s dream to be in the program and his numerous failures at doing so, had thrown himself into helping Cloud train for the next exam.
“That’s what friends do, spikey!”
Hand to hand, sword work, physical conditioning, even materia… or, well, Zack had tried to teach Cloud Materia to… some success which had in turn led to the second complication.
Genesis had stumbled upon their training one day just in time to see Cloud blast Zack back with a spell that shouldn’t be able to do that yet again and had all but claimed Cloud as his own.
“Artificial materia has a different concentration of mako, dearest,” He had said, running the back of gloved fingers over Cloud’s cheek. “And your exposure to mako from living in a place so dense with it has changed you too. Try this instead.” He had slotted a new orb of materia, naturally formed and from his own collection no less, into Cloud’s borrowed bracer like he was sealing a wedding vow.
(And knowing Genesis as well as he did now, that was probably not far off the mark. The dramatic bastard had claimed to have fallen in love from the moment he first saw Cloud “knock the puppy on his ass even with those terribly mis matched materia”, and Genesis Rhapsodos was nothing if not determined when it came to getting what he wanted.
Still, Cloud couldn’t deny that it was nice to be wanted for once… just like he couldn’t deny that Genesis was a skilled teacher both on the mats and in his bedroom where he had Cloud seeing the goddess herself when he did that thing with his fingers.)
But a paternity test made sense, in a way. Cloud had said he never knew his father, and since he was now officially a SOLDIER third, he would start getting attention. Considering how much he looked like his mother, it wouldn’t be a leap to assume people might start coming out of the woodwork to make claims, and such a scandal would look bad for Shinra in the long run. It… probably also didn’t help that Cloud looked enough like Rufus and Lazard that rumors had already begun to spread of another Shirna bastard.
But the results had not been the simple answer.
Nor had they been the slightly more complicated one that, while annoying, would have made a strange sort of sense considering how he looked and proximity to the Shinra manor.
No, Cloud’s results were so complicated that the poor tech that had been running the tests had so so three times to be sure.
And then Cloud was angry. Angry that his mother had been left alone with no money to support her. Angry he had grown up hated by an entire village because some bastard couldn’t be bothered to stick around. Angry that the truth had been under his nose the whole time and he had never seen it.
He had snatched the results from the poor tech and stomped his way to the private lab in the center of the Science Department hardly noting the flustered scientists and techs trying to stop him through the red haze in his mind. The locked door didn’t stand a chance against the mastered fire materia Genesis had gifted him for making it through his training, melting straight through the lock so Cloud could kick the door inwards.
He didn’t notice the second person in the room as he hurled the file of results at a rather unimpressed face. Didn’t care.
“Nice to meet you, dad,” Cloud all but spit between clenched teeth.
Hojo didn’t do much as blink. If anything he shrugged. “Ah. The control group.”
Cloud didn’t remember trashing the lab. Didn’t remember the too familiar face at his side that helped him do it. He did however remember the aftermath with his head in his hands and the Silver General himself awkwardly patting his back as he had a complete mental breakdown.
“It’s what brothers are supposed to do… isn’t it?” Sephiroth had said like to made all the sense in the world. Like any of this made fucking sense.
Cloud Strife had gone from no father to one that saw him as an experiment in all of twenty minutes and now his childhood idol who was actually his half brother was trying to comfort him. It was too much. He needed a drink. He needed a fucking cigarette. He needed —
“Genesis,” He murmured, all but scrambling for his PHS to send off a message. If anyone could make it all make sense it was Gen, or at least, Gen would stand beside him as he burned the world to the ground. Either way, all Cloud wanted at that moment was something that made sense.
Unfortunately, that single word had made Sephiroth recognize exactly who Cloud was other than “some new recruit” or perhaps “Zack’s friend” and his green eyes narrowed as this hands that had been awkwardly patting him tightened possessively.
“You’re the trooper that is dating Genesis.” It wasn’t a question. Sephiroth didn’t wait for an answer. “Genesis slept with my brother.”
And then Cloud Strife’s life became very complicated all at once.

Misconduct- Chapter 1
Genesis, once again, is in trouble. As this is strike number three Genesis is set on a lengthy probationary period, a last resort Lazard sought out so Genesis wouldn’t face the proper disciplinary action. But monitoring, catching, and working with a criminal wasn’t what he was expecting, let alone falling in love with them. GenesisxReader and TsengxReader are the main pairings. Side pairings of AngealxReader and SephirothxReader, ofc AGS being gay amongst each other. slow burn and i mean painfully slow, a moderate amount of death, alcohol and drug use/mentions of death from drug use, criminal activity but we’re not getting too low down just low down enough. Tags will be added as I go.
I wanted to at least write a good few chapters in advance before posting. I finally logged into ao3 and this will be updated there too.
3k ish?
************
Slowly winding through the tunnels that wind throughout Mythril Mines, Genesis peers around the corner. Examining his surroundings he concludes that there is no danger, just another path that splits into two directions at the end of the clearing. Emerging from his hidden spot he takes a look at the scenery around him. The sight was breathtaking, shallow saltwater pools scattered across the mine’s ground with an ethereal blue glow emanating from the mythril protruding out of the walls and ground. Making sure to not get too wrapped up in his thoughts, Genesis makes his way to the split tunnels, silently wishing he had the opportunity to fully take in such a scene, Genesis turns to the rest of his team and motions for them to follow along.
It’s been a while since a mission Genesis felt was worth his time was thrown at him, this mission he felt was no different. “Eliminate the Mythril Screamer.” played Lazard’s voice mockingly in his head. The only thing Genesis does deem worth his time currently were due to it being a high priority target. Genesis knows this would add on nicely to his already golden record and that’s all that matters. Following the tunnel leading left he gives a distasteful glance back to his team, sure it was a high priority target but that didn’t mean he needed any assistance taking care of this beast, let alone it be two Third Class SOLDIER’s and an infantryman. It almost felt like an insult sending these no name cadets with him, he’s handled more than enough on his own anyways. Lately feeling like Shinra is just trying to keep a tighter leash around his neck, seemingly trying to keep better tabs on Genesis. Due to
Stepping over the rubble left from the rock and mythril crumbling along with various pieces of metal from the old mine railway, one of the third class soldiers called for Genesis. “Sir, this looks like the same substance from the pictures.” Referring to the report they received at the missions briefing. Moving closer to examine the strange purple goo, Genesis agrees, “So it must be nearby then, finally.” The stench emanating from the strange matter causes Genesis to frown, postponing the small victory in his mind. Holding back a gag, he pulls himself together inwardly, eyes gravitating to another spot on the wall he begins to seek out more clues that the monster could be lingering somewhere near, spotting larger and larger stains of foul smelling gunk.
Making their way further into the tunnel, the path starts transitioning from the muddy and rubble strewn state to a slimy texture, coating everything in the surrounding area. The ground squelches beneath their boots as they trudge forward, the floor and walls slightly glowing purple as they go deeper into the mines. By the time they reached the middle of the tunnel the surroundings drastically changed, darkness taking over the once lit area, save from the eerie glow illuminating from around them. Darius, the infantryman, began voicing his concerns to Genesis. “Commander Rhapsodos sir, are you sure we should carry forward?” Immediately cowering he stammers on, “I-It’s just our briefing didn’t describe anything like this, shouldn’t we report back, sir?”
With a huff of annoyance Genesis turns to regard Darius, eyes scanning over the two Third Class SOLDIER’s as he bites back the urge to snap on Darius for questioning his motives. Taking on a calm yet malice laced tone Genesis says, ”We still haven’t found our target, we are directed to locate the monster at the very least. Are you too scared to fulfill your duties? You started shaking the moment we entered the mine, I doubt you’re capable of moving forward.” To say Genesis was irritated by Darius over the course of the day was an understatement. Having to urge him along the way a few times, it was painfully obvious that Darius was more than a little anxious. Changing his focus to the Third Classes, Garth and Thomas, Genesis scans over them briefly before giving out a new set of commands. “I want Garth and Darius to secure the entrance of this tunnel, wait for Thomas and I to get back from our investigation. We’ll be no longer than 30 minutes, if not return to the main entrance and request assistance.”
Thankful that he could come up with a way to get a couple of them out of his sight, Genesis and Thomas delve deeper into the tunnels, the stench becoming stronger as they go on, “a scent akin to a mix of Marboro’s bad breath.” Thomas joked, to his surprise Genesis gave a joking tone in response, “More like decaying flesh. Enjoy the luxury of not knowing what that smells like while you can.” Trying not to dwell on which was worse and inching closer to the wall, against Genesis’ better judgment, to get a better understanding of what he was looking at. “What the hell is this?” The rock and mythril that would normally make up the wall had been overtaken by what appeared to be a grayish flesh accommodated with the glowing purple goo. It was pulsing, veins running through the flesh like matter causing it to seem even more lively than it already was. Thomas glancing around as well takes notice that not only are the walls covered in the meat like matter but so is the ceiling and floor they’ve been walking on.
“Keep your guard up, the Screamer is likely to be closer to us than we think.” Genesis states before continuing to make his way to the end of the passage. As if on cue a guttural growl rings out from the end of the tunnel, cautiously making their way to the end, Genesis peeks his head around the corner spotting the beast. Standing in the middle of one of the mine's clearings stood the Mythril Screamer. Certainly bigger than they could’ve expected, looming well above them, and skin similar to the flesh like walls. It’s almost as though its skin was transparent with the way you can see the screamers veins, the striations of its muscle incredibly defined adding to the transparent appearance of the creature's skin.
Stretching out its right arm to a massive shard of mythril the hand disappeared as its skin seemed to grow over it. The flesh-like matter they saw on the walls earlier quickly overtook the large piece of mythril, tendril-like appendages appearing and fully engulfing the fine mineral. Glancing down at the screamer's feet, Genesis realizes it seems entirely rooted to the fleshy ground surrounding it, but with this realization comes another. Looking around at the walls and ceiling he’s a bit disappointed in himself for not noticing sooner but now on edge as it registers in Genesis’ mind that they were possibly inside of a monster's nest. Turning to Thomas, Genesis decides it best to him go back to the others, “Thomas, I want you to meet back with the others. Go back to the entrance and wait there. Don’t bother calling for backup, Lazard wants this thing dead more than anything, so I’ll handle it. “Sir.” Despite Thomas’ better judgment he retreated, he wasn’t going to attempt picking a fight with Genesis, he’d like to move up in the ranks.
Making sure Thomas got far enough down the tunnel, Genesis rushes the screamer, initiating battle. Taking down the beast didn’t seem to be so much of a problem, one powerful strike of his sword after another. It’s not as though it was moving from its spot, it truly was rooted to the ground, connected to the mass of flesh on the ground in a grotesque tangle of skin and veins. Pulling back to adjust his stance, Genesis plunges his sword through the beast's chest, forcing a strangled scream out of the monster. Quickly retracting his sword, slashing the screamer at its neck with an upward arc of Genesis’ rapier. Making an attempt to strike Genesis with its left arm was met with a graceful dodge and parry. Once again plunging his sword directly through its chest but discharging a blast of fire simultaneously, causing it to slump over. “Hell, it hardly moves and this was considered a main priority?”
Catching movement on his left, Genesis quickly turned to spot the source, finding another screamer. Quite a bit smaller in scale compared to the other but capable of moving from its spot, immediately charging him. Not one to turn down a foe, Genesis lunges forward, thrusting his sword into its stomach. Retracting his sword and with a downwards strike taking off of one of its arms before it could attempt to strike him. Dealing a finishing blow with a fire spell, Genesis scans the room to ensure there’s no more enemies. He couldn't help but think about Darius’ words earlier, telling Genesis that this wasn’t explained during their briefing. “It certainly fucking  wasn’t”, not a single word that the Mythril Screamer could regenerate or reproduce, rapidly at that. Watching as they quickly formed from the feet up, appearing to generate from the extended flesh that spread from the larger screamer.
Maybe it was a moment of weakness, not something Genesis would ever admit to, but the sight made him freeze. Watching how the screamers put themselves together, the way he could see their muscle and bone structure constructed before him was a freakish sight. Perhaps it was the rate at which they multiplied that made him pause, whichever the reason it was a mistake. In seconds he was surrounded, finally making an attempt to clear the monsters out but with each enemy defeated it seemed like they multiplied in even larger numbers. In an attempt to clear out a majority of the monsters to take down, Genesis casts quake, another mistake on his part. The spell being too powerful for the already unstable structure causing the portion of the mine to completely cave in.
That was all Genesis could remember of the mission as he sat in Lazard’s office for what felt like the millionth time in the past few months. However what made the last few occasions special was Genesis' lack of obedience, once again failing to acknowledge direct orders. Other occasions worked out in his favor, still receiving a stern talking to, but actual consequences? No way, not for Genesis Rhapsodos, well until today that is. Having signed write up form after write up form and spending numerous occasions going over what happened in the Mythril Mines, both on paper as well as vocally.
“Are you listening?” Lazard looks frustrated, absolutely stressed would be more fitting. Leaning forward, arms resting against his desk, he gives Genesis a disappointed look, he felt like he was talking to a child. “This is serious Genesis, I’ve made the mistake of brushing over these little mishaps for far too long. You compromised your entire squad by not following orders this time.” Looking Genesis in the eyes he knew what was to come, the irritation was evident in his facial expression.
“If we’re being honest here, Director, I didn’t do anything wrong. I completed the mission did I not? Everything went as planned-“
Lazard cuts him off swiftly, “Went as planned? From splitting up your squad to ignoring the listed signs of when you should retreat, I wouldn’t refer to a single thing that’s been documented today as according to plan. Not to mention the entire portion stating the poor condition of the mines that seemed to have been entirely ignored. Where is the disconnect in your head that makes you fail to realize that you risked the lives of your entire squad and yourself,  for what cause? Because you thought you had complete control of the situation, right? You made a mess of those mines and now it's Shinra’s problem to deal with the clean up.”
The silence was deafening for a while, except for the sound of Genesis tapping his finger on the desk, appearing to have finally gotten his point across to Genesis, Lazard carries on. “You can’t be right all of the time Genesis.” Leaning back in his chair Lazard reaches into one of the drawers, pulling out another stack of papers causing Genesis to groan in response.
Lazard almost wanted to smirk at his dismay, spreading numerous forms across the desk, “Don’t worry, these are the last forms you're going to sign over this. No arguments, just listen. You’re free to ask questions after I’m done explaining.” Sliding a couple of pages over to Genesis he continues, “Unless directed, you're not allowed to leave Midgar for the six months, this doesn’t prevent you from taking any missions at all. As you know there aren't typically any major tasks for SOLDIER around here, unless you’re interested in taking up a post around the city, though there should be no reason to do so.”
Judging by the scowl on Genesis’ face progressively getting worse, Lazard was certain that wasn’t an option in his mind, though it would have to be if he’s told to do so. “However, there’s a mission General Affairs needs help with. In order to lighten the consequences in your favor, I offered them your services for a long term mission. You’ll be briefed on your assignment later.” taking a brief moment, testing to see if Genesis would have anything to say before carrying on
“Next, you’ll be under going three weeks of safety training-”
“Safety training?!” Genesis exclaimed, it sounded outrageous. There was no way he needed any additional punishment. Genesis knew he would have to do his training with lower classes, and it was something he was not willing to do.
Lazard cuts Genesis a scathing look, letting his outburst go. “You’re lucky it’s only three weeks of training rather than the six you were originally planned for, I don’t suppose I need to explain why you need to take those classes. The other few forms are to be signed as proof of disciplinary action. For the time being you’re relieved of most SOLDIER duties. This is to accommodate your mission with the Turks, you’ll be briefed by Tseng at 16:00 and you are to meet in his office. You’re now free to ask me any questions.” Wrapping up his quick explanation as Genesis signed the needed documents.
Sliding the papers back to Lazard, Genesis takes up the opportunity to make a few remarks. “So, working with the Turks is my punishment? Kind of odd considering it seems like you all don’t want me in the field at all. I really could’ve used the vacation.”
“It isn’t that we don’t want you in the field, Genesis we want you to operate within policy. This isn’t your first violation and it’s certainly one of the worst yet. Working with the Turks is not the punishment, the assignment itself is and until it’s complete you won’t be doing anything else.”
Gathering up the papers Lazard sets them in the stack of other files containing the disaster of the last mission. “If there are no other questions for now you’re free to go until you have to meet with Tseng.”
Wordlessly standing up, with his usual dramatic flair, Genesis makes his way to the door, mulling over the events of the past week as he heads into the corridor. Immediately met with Angeal and Sephiroth, rolling his eyes, he opts to ignore them, walking past the duo without a word. Sephiroth and Angeal fall in line, trailing after him, each taking a side by Genesis.
“So?” Angeal asked expectantly, only for Genesis to continue ignoring him. Determined to get to the elevator and tell them off, he speeds up, only to be intercepted by Sephiroth. That pissed Genesis off, the smug look on Sephiroth’s face as he stared down at him. The unwavering eye contact, hell even the way he crossed his arms. If Genesis could fully justify spitting in Sephiroth’s face he would. Attempting to swallow his irritation, he meets Sephiroth’s eyes, annoyance still seeping through his tone, “Don’t you two have anything better to do?”
Sephiroth, ever the one to keep up their banter, responds quickly, cutting Angeal off from talking. “Not when I get to hear about your downfall, spill it. What did Lazard say?”
Giving Sephiroth a pointed glance for his comment, Angeal then turns his attention to Genesis, “Well, we are curious. You did say you would keep us updated.”
Squeezing between the two, continuing his trek to the elevator, Genesis quickening his pace. Doing his best to not cause a scene by ignoring their questioning. The whole situation was already embarrassing, he certainly didn’t want to explain safety training to anybody. Let alone have anyone else over hear his business. It wasn’t like Genesis was entirely caught up on what he would be put up to during his probationary period. In fact he found it incredibly odd that he wasn’t briefed right then and there. Instead having to do what he could assume was some of the Turks’ dirty work. He could only imagine they were trying to keep him on an incredibly tight leash. Genesis wholeheartedly felt like this was unwarranted, some safety videos were one thing. Training? Working for another department? He destroyed a couple of rocks. Oh well. It didn’t need to go as far as keeping him bound to Midgar in his eyes.
Sephiroth immediately falls back in line behind Genesis, hot on his heels as Genesis makes it to his destination. Rapidly mashing the down button for the elevator. Frustration coursing through Genesis’ veins as Sephiroth pulls his hand away from the button, stating “It won’t make the elevator come any faster.” With what Genesis would call a shit eating grin on his face.
Having no choice but to face his companions, Genesis turns to acknowledge them. “If I knew what was going on, I still wouldn’t want to tell you. You could at the very least have enough respect to wait until we’re in private.” It couldn’t have been a better time for the elevator to arrive, cutting off Genesis' on coming rant as he escaped into the elevator. Sending a Sephiroth a glare and demanding they not follow him as he angrily presses the button to the parking garage.
Angeal couldn’t help but voice his thoughts to Sephiroth, “Do you really think the outcome was that bad?”
With a shrug of his shoulders as Sephiroth’s gaze focuses on Angeal, “When is Genesis not over dramatic about anything. Everything’s probably just fine, he just hates criticism.” Angeal couldn’t help but agree, though choosing not to voice his opinions. Surely whatever Genesis was going through couldn’t be the end of the world.

Final Fantasy Record Keeper Genesis Rhapsodos Updated Relics and Stats List
In the Final Fantasy Record Keeper (FFRK) mobile game, Final Fantasy VII is the realm where I have the most relics. That’s because FF7 is my fave realm in this game.
If there’s a Final Fantasy VII banner or if a Final Fantasy VII char is featured on a banner, I almost always pull on said banner.
This post is all about Genesis Rhapsodos from Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and all the Soul Breaks I currently have for him as well as his current stats and such.
Tumblr media
Currently, Genesis is my absolute, most fave Final Fantasy VII (#ad) char. He’s the reason why I started playing Final Fantasy Record Keeper.
Whenever he gets something new, I always pull for it with no questions asked. I’m really glad that he’s actually really good in this game.
I started playing Final Fantasy Record Keeper during the Ode to a Sundered World Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII event. This was the event that introduced Genesis as a playable char in this game. I talk more about that in this post.
That feels like forever ago. So much has happened since then. Now everything is coming to an end.
That’s because, unfortunately, Final Fantasy Record Keeper just recently announced that it was gonna end its service on September 29, 2022. I talk more about that in another post.
Tumblr media
I really wish this didn’t have to happen. I don’t want FFRK to end, at least not anytime soon. Don’t want to say goodbye to Genesis yet, or at all, really.
It’s true that there are many things that I don’t like about this game but what has gotten me to stay and keep playing was the simple fact that Genesis is here.
Anyway, I’m hoping to be able to finish as much of FFRK’s content as I can before everything ends on September 29, 2022.
I also want to take screenshots of a couple of stuff in the game. Naturally, my priority and main focus is to take screenshots of everything in the game that has to do with Genesis.

Also have Genesis’s Default Soul Break, Laceration, and his 2 Legend Materias: Rhapsodic Recitation and Project G Creation.
Genesis just got new Soul Breaks in the Japanese version of Final Fantasy Record Keeper. Was really looking forward to being able to pull for these in the English or Global version of the game.
It was beyond devastating to find out that that’s never gonna happen now. Ahh, why’d the English version of FFRK have to end just when Genesis finally gets new Soul Breaks?
Feels like I’ve been waiting forever for him to get something new. Then, just when he finally gets new relics, the Global version of FFRK announced that it was gonna end soon. Ahh, why’d this have to happen now of all times?
Here’s a list of the new Soul Breaks that Genesis just got in the Japanese version of Final Fantasy Record Keeper:
Limit Break Chain (LBC), Parallel Bond: Genesis - Fire or Woven Bond: Genesis - Fire
Dual Awakening Soul Break (DASB), Awoken Apocalypse Genesis

Genesis Rhapsodos Weapons and Armor List
I also kept all of Genesis’s weapons and armor that came with his Soul Breaks instead of selling them. If I get a dupe, then I just fuse the items together.
Tumblr media
Here’s a list and some screenshots:
Red Rapier (VII-CC)
This sword gave me Genesis’s Awakening. It’s currently at Level 35 of 35 and of 8-star rarity.
Tumblr media
Blood Sword (VII-CC)
This sword gave me Genesis’s G+1. It’s currently at Level 35 of 35 and of 8-star rarity.
Tumblr media
Evil Slayer (VII-CC)
This sword gave me Genesis’s Glint. It’s currently at Level 20 of 20 and of 5-star rarity.
Tumblr media
Rune Rapier (VII-CC)
This sword gave me Genesis’s Sync. It’s currently at Level 40 of 40 and of 9-star rarity.
Tumblr media
Deathbringer (VII-CC)
This sword gave me Genesis’s LBO. It’s currently at Level 30 of 30 and of 7-star rarity.
Tumblr media
Astral Sword (VII-CC)
This sword gave me Genesis’s G+2. It’s currently at Level 30 of 30 and of 7-star rarity.
Tumblr media
Red Rapier+ (VII-CC)
This sword gave me Genesis’s TASB. It’s currently at Level 40 of 40 and of 9-star rarity.
Tumblr media
Got so many dupes of this weapon that I also have another Red Rapier+ (VII-CC) that’s at Level 30 of 30 and of 7-star rarity.
Tumblr media
Genesis’s Guise (VII-DoC)
This light armor gave me Genesis’s Ultra. It’s currently at Level 35 of 35 and of 8-star rarity.
Tumblr media
Got so many dupes of this that I actually have 2 Level 35 of 35 Genesis’s Guise (VII-DoC).
Genesis’s Guise (VII-CC)
This light armor gave me Genesis’s AOSB. It’s currently at Level 30 of 30 and of 7-star rarity.
Tumblr media
Red Glove (VII-CC)
This bracer gave me Genesis’s LMR. It’s currently at Level 20 of 20 and of 5-star rarity.
Tumblr media
Accessories
Accessories can be equipped by any char and they don’t contain any Soul Breaks so the following Accessories don’t specifically belong to Genesis but I want to take note of them anyway since they might as well be his.
Tumblr media
LOVELESS (VII) - this 5-star Accessory raises max HP by 500 and adds moderate resistance to the Confuse debuff. Have 3 copies of this.
Tumblr media
Banora White (VII-CC) - this 5-star Accessory adds moderate ice resistance as well as moderate resistance to poison. Have 2 copies of this.
Tumblr media
Genesis Rhapsodos Hero Artifacts List
Equipped Genesis with the best weapon, armor, and accessory that I have and that he can make use of. He can equip the following items:
Dagger
Sword
Hat
Light Armor
Bracer
Accessory
As soon as Genesis’s Hero Artifacts became available, spent the time and resources needed to obtain and fully max out all of his new unique equipment. I talk more about that in this post.
Each char in Final Fantasy Record Keeper gets 3 Hero Artifacts, one for the weapon slot, one for the armor slot, and one for the accessory slot. Genesis has the following Artifacts:
Red Rapier (VII-CC) - currently at Level 99 of 99 with Level 99 of 99 Augment
Tumblr media
Genesis’s Guise (VII-CC) - currently at Level 99 of 99 with Level 99 of 99 Augment
Tumblr media
LOVELESS (VII) - currently at Level 1 of 1
Tumblr media
Each Hero Artifact comes with several different passives. These passives also come with different percentages. The following passives are the best for Genesis’s Hero Artifacts:
Red Rapier (VII-CC) - Increase fire damage by 5%
Genesis’s Guise (VII-CC) - Increase fire ability damage by 5%
LOVELESS (VII) - Reduce delay of the user’s actions by 8%
Genesis Rhapsodos Hero Ability
As soon as it was available and as soon as I had the resources to do so, I created Genesis’s Hero Ability. It’s called Genesis Slash.
Tumblr media
It’s a Spellblade-type ability that deals 6 physical fire attacks to one enemy. My Genesis Slash is currently at Rank 5 of 5 and has 10 uses.
Genesis can equip the following types of abilities:
up to 4-star Black Magic
up to 4-star Bard
up to 6-star Combat
up to 6-star Spellblade
up to 6-star Darkness
But I usually just have him equipped with Spellblade-type abilities, especially the ones that deal fire damage like Inferno Assault and Blastspell Strike.
This is because Genesis is a physical fire elemental DPS and Spellblade is the ability type that has the most synergy with his Soul Breaks.
Genesis Rhapsodos Current Stats Without Synergy
Without synergy, Genesis’s current stats are as follows:
Tumblr media
1153 ATK
193 MAG
121 ACC
587 DEF
571 RES
125 EVA
177 MND
159 SPD
Genesis Rhapsodos Current Stats With Synergy
With realm synergy, Genesis’s current stats are as follows:
Tumblr media
1415 ATK
208 MAG
121 ACC
763 DEF
748 RES
125 EVA
191 MND
164 SPD
Genesis Rhapsodos Magia Crystals
Currently, Genesis has 1254 Magia points. He has 100 Magia points in the following Magia Crystals:
fire elemental attack
ice elemental defense
lightning elemental defense
dark elemental defense
physical attack
defense
resistance
HP
Tumblr media
Then he has 75 Magia points in the following Magia Crystals:
fire elemental defense
earth elemental defense
wind elemental defense
water elemental defense
holy elemental defense
poison elemental defense
Tumblr media
My goal had been to fully max out all of Genesis’s Magia Crystals. This was a very slow-going process but I didn’t mind. I thought, what’s the rush?
I thought that I’d always have time to max out Genesis’s Magia Crystals. But now that’s never gonna happen.
Well, I’m gonna keep playing FFRK until the end so let’s see if I can get more Magia points for Genesis.
Genesis Rhapsodos Crystal Water Points
Genesis has max Crystal Waters for all the stats - HP, Attack, Defense, Magic, Resistance, and Mind.
Tumblr media
Yeah, he doesn’t need magic and mind since he’s not a mage or a healer, but I don’t care. I want him to have all the Crystal Waters anyway.
He’s the only one I’ve gotten to max Crystal Waters Level 3 for all the stats. Everyone else just gets Waters for their relevant stats.
Genesis Rhapsodos Sphere Skills
Fully unlocked and maxed out all of Genesis’s Sphere Skills. This includes all of his Record Spheres (Warrior, Red Mage, Knight, Gladiator, Spellblade, Dark Knight, Legend, and Snowspell Strike) as well as his Record Board. I talk more about this in other posts.
Tumblr media
Genesis Rhapsodos Character Profile
Each char in Final Fantasy Record Keeper has a Character Profile. This has 2 tabs - Overview and Hero Record.
Here’s a screenshot of the Overview tab of Genesis’s Character Profile:
Tumblr media
Genesis’s Role is listed as Physical Attack.
Under the Special Traits heading is the following text:
Proficient with a variety of weapons and armor, with a focus on swords. Can use rare spellblade abilities, biffing his Attack to deal powerful physical elemental attacks.
Under the Stats heading is the following:
ATK - 5
MAG - 2
ACC - 3
DEF - 2
RES - 2
EVA - 3
HP - 4
MND - 2
SPD - 3
The Hero Record tab of Genesis’s Character Profile has the following text:
Genesis
SOLDIER 1st Class Genesis is a close friend of Angeal, with whom he shares a hometown. Though Genesis considers fellow SOLDIER Sephiroth a friend, he also has strong feelings of rivalry towards him. He often quotes from the epic poem LOVELESS.
Tumblr media
If Genesis had a costume, it would have been listed in the Hero Record tab right below his character profile and under the heading Wardrobe Records.
Ahh, I wish Genesis had a costume. He could have had his outfit from Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII as an alt or something.
I mean, I prefer the red leather outfit that Genesis wears in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII but still. It would have been nice to have the option to change his look whenever I wanted to.
End of Final Fantasy Record Keeper Mobile Game
And that’s it. It’s all over now. At the time I’m writing this part of this post, it’s way past September 29, 2022 so FFRK has just ended its service. Ahh, I still wish that this didn’t have to happen now or anytime soon.
I tried but sadly, wasn’t able to finish all the content in Final Fantasy Record Keeper before the end. I talk more about that in another post.
It really sucks that it’s all over now. I miss my FFRK account already. I miss Genesis. I miss seeing him in battle. I miss seeing the animations for his Soul Breaks. I miss everything. Why’d this game have to end?
Tumblr media
I also wish that I’d gotten the chance to play with the new relics that he just got in the Japanese version of the game.
I wish Final Fantasy Record Keeper didn’t end before we got the banner with Genesis’s new Soul Breaks. I wish we had more time. Sigh.
Another thing that’s really upsetting is the way Final Fantasy Record Keeper ended. Its end feels so anticlimactic. Truly a letdown of epic proportions. The game could have tried to do more before everything ended.
But instead, even before the end, FFRK felt dead already. We stopped getting any new events long before the end.
We got a special banner and some tickets that we could use to pull on said banner. I talk more about that in another post, but we’d get like 1 ticket per day as part of some login bonus campaign or something.
Tumblr media
That only lasted for like 30 days or so though. But why couldn’t they have made it last until the end? Why couldn’t they have given us more free pulls?
Why couldn’t they have adjusted the rates or something? Why couldn’t they have made it so that these daily free 10-draws would give us at least 1 6-star or 7-star Soul Break or something?
They didn’t even refresh the Realm and Elemental banners or given us more mythril and Realm/Elemental x11 tickets.
The game could have gone out with a bang but it feels like it all just ended in disappointment.
Genesis Rhapsodos Updated Magia Crystals
Like I said, I didn’t stop playing FFRK until the very end so was able to get a few more Magia points for Genesis.
Genesis now has a total of 1261 points. He has 77 Magia points in the following Magia Crystals:
fire elemental defense
earth elemental defense
wind elemental defense
holy elemental defense
poison elemental defense
Tumblr media
Then he has 76 Magia points in water elemental defense.
Ahh, it really sucks that I won’t be able to have 100 Magia points for all these stats for Genesis. Sigh.
Conclusion
So what about you? What do you think about Genesis Rhapsodos from Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII? Do you have a lot of Soul Breaks for him? What do you think about the fact that Final Fantasy Record Keeper is all over now? Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions by leaving a comment below or by reblogging or replying to this post.

Old Feelings -Genesis Rhapsodos-
masterlist | request
Prompt: Wherien the Reader was the son of a family friend back in Banora and they got along well growing up, until Genesis & Angeal left for SOLDIER. Though they reunite and get along a couple of years later, when Gen is first class and sometimes sneaking in visits with them when he’s near Banora, things are still a little tense. They both like each other but are idiot fools who don’t know how to say it!
Pairings: Genesis Rhapsodos x Male!Reader
Summary:
Word Count: 922
Tumblr media
You remember the day Genesis first wanted to be a Soldier. It was when the news first started to cover the Wutai war and Sephiroth was the main topic. You remember how his face lit up at the word ‘hero’. From that day on, all Genesis wanted was to be admired and loves like Sephiroth. And he planed on getting just that.
Instead of running around and playing like kids, he trained. He got a wooden sword to practice with and make a dummy of stuff lying around his family home. Even got his friend Angeal to join him.
One day he just left. You woke up one more and everything was normal except when you arrived at your normal meeting spot with Genesis, he wasn’t there. You waiting hoping he was running late or got help up at home. But when the sun reached its high point, you knew he wasn’t coming.
On your way to the Rhapsodos resident many thoughts flooded your mind. Did he hurt himself training? Did Angeal? By the time you arrived all the negative reasons floated around your head.
With a simple, it only look a minute for Genesis’ mother to open the door. “Hello sweetie, What can I help you with?” Her calm nature confused you. Maybe there was nothing wrong? “May I speak to Genesis please?” It was her turn to be confused. Though it only lasted a few seconds. “I see he didn’t tell you. I’m sorry to be the one but Genesis and Angeal left this morning and went to Midgar to become soldiers.”
To say you were upset was an understatement. You always knew one day he would leave and make a name for himself, but you though he would at least tell you or give you a heads up. As it turns out, you got neither.
Over the years you moved on. Creating your own life for yourself. Had your own home, friends, and job. And as much as your tried to forget about Genesis and your late bloomed crush on him. Thinking back you always wondered why him leaving hurt so much, Sure you were friends but there was always an underlying sense of betrayal. Then you thought back to how you felt when you were with him. The happiness, joy, and how much you cared for him and enjoyed seeing him happy. You knew there was no point in dwelling in the past and the loss of a childhood crush and you thought you would never see Genesis again, until a few years later.
Hearing a knock on your front door your eyes narrow. You don’t remember the last time you got a visitor who knocked, most people you knew walking in and made themself at home. When you open the door, your jaw drops. Standing in front of you in his signature red coat and Rapier in hand, was Genesis.
“Are you going to invite me in?” He is the first to speak. Not trusting your voice, you simply nod and widen the door enough for him to get in. Motioning him to your couch, you side down on opposite sides. While the soldier took some time to glance around your home, you looked at him.
You take notice of how much he’s changed. While you saw pictures of him in newspapers and on tv, everything was so different in person. His eyes almost had a slight glow to them and when you used to stand at equal height, now he looms over you making you look up at him.
“Would you like a drink?” You asked, making him move his gaze to you. “Water please.” He answered with a nod. You returned it before moving yourself into the kitchen to get drinks for the pair of you.
From the kitchen you heard Genesis get up and walk around, assuming to look some more. It wasn’t until you begin to walk back that he speaks up. “I’m surprised you kept it.”  You heard him before you saw him. “Kept what?” You asked turning the corner into the same room as him, only to stop when you saw him with a picture in hand. “why wouldn’t I?” He only shrugged his shoulders in response before placing the frame back down and walked over towards you, where he thanked you for the water before returning to his spot on the couch.
Over the next few hours, you talked. Talked about how working for Shinra is like, he told you stories from his time in 3rd and 2nd class as well as a trainee. He told you about Sephiroth and Angeal, while you updated him on his parents along with yours and childhood friends.
Once you got began to yawn, Genesis prepared himself to leave. You walked him to the door and said your goodbyes and watched him walk out the door only to stop suddenly. “I’m sorry I left suddenly.” He spoke with turning towards you. “I wanted to tell you, Let you know what I was planing. But every time I started to tell you, I couldn’t. It began easier to just leave than face you.“ Slowly, you nodded. Letting his words process and sink in. “Why was it so hard?” Just like before, he shrugged. You could tell he wanted to say something, but couldn’t get it out for some reason. A small part of you wanted to push and get him to spill. Instead you simply told him you understood and watched as he walked away.

Final Fantasy prompts #48
1. Jenova moms Cloud, but he doesn't realize it's Jenova.
Everyone else recognizes her in all her purple tentacly glory, but say nothing because Cloud hasn't looked this happy in years. Maybe its OK to let him live a lie, if only for a little while...
Also, they're kinda afraid of her
2. "Why do you live all the way out in the sticks?" Cid growled, munching on an unlit cigarette.
"Cause I can do this." He said, before whistling and promptly falling onto his back.
"What the hell are you even doing-" Cid began before they were both swarmed by dogs.
Big dogs, medium dogs, fluffy dogs, dogs with small tails so many dogs. Many of whom where licking the blonds face where he lay.
Aka Cloud owns a cabin in the woods for the sole purpose of getting swarmed by wild dogs and letting them lick his depression away.
3. Time traveler Cloud, but not quite.
Its a 12 year old escaped expirement created by fusing Clouds and Sephiroths DNA. S2, as he was labeled, kidnapped Cadet Cloud and kept the struggling blond with him as he traveled to the northern crater.
He keeps referring to Cloud as Mother and Sephiroth as Father, something that freaks Cloud out and made Sephiroth highly curious.
Upon closer inspection, the silverette saw peices of himself in the boy, in his eye shape, in his fighting style, and especially in his personality.
S2 dotes on his Mother, giving him everything he desires, everything but his freedom.
Cloud just has to get used to his life of semi-luxury...and being brodal carried by S2 and every gods damned SOLDIER he meets apparently.
4. RM Cloud wacking Sephiroth in the face with a broom. The silverette just stares at his puppet and says, "Really?"
5. Cloud finding Sephiroth in a moment of weakness and deciding a bit of revenge was in order.
6. Slightly unhinged time traveler Sephiroth x Slightly unhinged time traveler Cloud
7. Yuffie stalking different members of AVALANCHE out of boredom, only to wind up saving one of thier lives
8. Reeves Cait Sith dolls go rouge and declare war on the remaining SOLDIERS, believing that the living J cells in thier bodies were harming the planet.
Reeve doesn't want to hurt his sons. But Cloud has become something of a baby brother to him, and he would never forgive himself if something were to happen to the stubborn blond
9. Time traver Cloud coming to Aerith for advice after he lands, but she immediately sensed the Calamity from the Stars in him and started screaming bloody murder.
He had to fight Reno and Rude and easily defeated them, but by the time he was done, Aerith had escaped, leaving a confused and distraught blond.
He gives Reno an alias to protect his younger self and then promptly decides to GTFO.
Aerith winds up running into Tseng and Angeal, and she spills the beans about the Cetra and her heritage, as well as the Calamity and her child.
Angeal tries not to vibrate with excitement, after all, it looks like his lifelong dream of saving the world might be coming true. It seemed further reinforced by the fact the blond broke into the tower and freed several expiraments and killed many of the scientists. He was seen running off with a red lion-wolf creature before they lost track of him.
He, Aerith, Genesis, and Sephiroth wind up joining a party together to stop him. They essentially blackmailed the company to keep them off thier backs while they saved the world.
Cloud however, joined up with Nanaki and Vincent, but was also being targeted by the AVALANCHE of this time as well as thier own mad scientist, Fuhito, who's almost giddy that three of the esteemed professor Hojo's powerful expirements have escaped and are "Up for grabs"
Cloud may or may not also have a deal going with Jenova, who is offering him guidance with his new abilities as well as love. He knows she's manipulating him, but he feels so lost and vulnerable. He let her in and he wasn't even sure if he regrets it.
Also Jenova manipulating Sephiroth and his group by convincing them that she's "The Goddess Jenova" and revealed that she's Sephiroths mom. She convices them that the blond is evil and must be stopped. No one questions why she only speaks to them when Aerith is away.
Yeah, Clouds not having a good time. Kinda based off of another prompt of mine and I felt the need to expand on it. So, yeah.
10. The president, his son and the directors are killed off by Reeve, who has finally taken a stand and did a hostile takeover of the company.
11. Time traveler Reeve?
Better, Cait Sith gains sentience and time travels
12. Sephiroth revives again after the events of DeepGround and grabs up Cloud, embracing him like a lover as he flies into the air with him.
He basically tells Cloud that he's defeated him three times in a row, he's fascinated by him, and that Clouds going to be his bride.
Cloud is not okay with this
As it turns out, neither is Tifa, Clouds girlfriend.
The ensueing catfight is glorious
13. Cloud gets catcalled more often than anyone in thier little group. Apparently, he's a living creeper magnet, he couldn't tell you how many times people have just disregarded his personal space, bought him crap expecting a 'favor' in return, randomly touched his hair, bugged him for his number or a date, strait up tried to follow him home, ect.
The sheer entitlement both men and women seem to think they have over him is astounding. It's gotten to the point everyone has noticed and became protective of him. The blond himself? He's not afraid to make someone swallow thier teeth, regardless of gender.
14. Angeal loves photography, everyone knows that.
What people don't know is that he takes pictures of anything he deems beautuful. Birds, trees, flowers, clouds...406 pictures of the moon and even more of the stars. That was fine.
The problem arose when Genesis snooped through Angeals computer/apartment and found his secret photo collection. He swiped it and brought it to Sephiroths office to go through it with him.
Everything was normal, until they found a gorgeous picture of Genesis igniting his surroundings in flame.
Then they found some pics of Sephiroth standing in the moonlight with Masamune drawn. They were both extremely flattered by how lovely these were...until it got wierder. There were pictures of monsters, Cadets, Angeal's pup, Zack, several a few pictures of a blond trooper, an anthropomorphic cat with a cape and crown and...Turks?!
The worst part, however, was when they noticed that not a single person, not even themselves, where looking at the camera.
The fact they didn't remember having thier picture taken chilled them further.
Aka Angeal might have an addiction. Or an obsession.
15. Cloud has had a crush on Zack for a long time, but when Zack starts play flirting with him he thinks he has a chance and makes his move...and is promptly rejected.
Cloud plays it off as a joke and Zack buys it. The heartbroken blond finds a place to hide and quietly sob his eyes out.
Unfortunately, or fortunately, for him, he gets found and comforted by the Lord of Loveless himself, Genesis Rhapsodos.
Genesis had followed the subtle sounds of sorrow with the intention of either taunting the individual or reciting Loveless to them, as he adored a literal captive audience...but this...this was different.
He found himself rocking the pretty lovesick fool in his arms and mentally kicked himself for winding up in this situation.
On the other hand, he managed to score a date.
Bonus: Time traveler Sephiroth causing a scene by hard core flirting with CC Cloud and destroying a building and a man with a single swipe of Masamune, thus getting the attention of the entire Shinra army.
Fortunately the battle between the Sephiroths was cut short when Time traveler Cloud intervened with a spray bottle full of Aeriths holy water and essentially held him at gunpoint (spray bottle point?) as he retreated.
He fled before anyone could do much of anything, thus leaving everyone involved with so many unanswered questions.

For @strands-of-starlight who requested  more of Genesis and Cloud figuring out their romantic/intimate relationship with each other. This has mostly translated to ‘If Sephiroth gets a sweet 3am moment, I want one too!’ on his part. Hopefully this fit the bill. Enjoy!
---
“Getting stared at while I'm trying to sleep is not a turn on,” Cloud announced.
While he couldn't be exactly sure who had gotten onto the bed without opening his eyes, there were a couple of clues. It wasn't Zack, because with a few shaky steps under his belt, Zack had taken to jumping and wrapping himself around him. Aside from Zack, each of the others smelled a little different in a way he was starting to notice. Angeal frequently smelled floral, either from some kind of gardening or from the dish soap in the kitchen which it had taken him a couple of crazy, hazy days to pinpoint the origin of. Despite what his fan club newsletters said, Sephiroth didn't smell much like anything. Just....clean, crisp, something almost metallic underlining it and maybe that floral from what he'd realised was a habit of stealing Angeal's clothes when he wasn't in uniform. It was neither of these, something warm and a little cloying, like ginger and caramel.
So Genesis's voice wasn't exactly a surprise. “Your senses are improving,” he said, quietly. Perhaps someone was resting in the front room. As soon as he'd begun to feel better, he had offered to leave but had been told absolutely not. He couldn't complain. Literally, he had tried offering to help with things and telling them he'd manage only to be firmly rebuffed. “Let me see your eyes?”
Cloud opened them more because he didn't think sleep was going to happen with Genesis having pulled himself to lay on the bed facing him. “Is this where you feed me a line about them being like the ocean depths?”
“They are somewhat,” Genesis staring at his eyes made him want to fidget, so he tried to stay still under it. “The ocean is a beautiful thing. Mysterious, deep, the promise of something just beyond the horizon. No matter where the winds may blow, my friend –“
“–your desire is the bringer of life, the gift of the goddess.” Cloud finished for him, because between having it read to him several times and having looked at it a really embarrassing amount of times, he could remember parts of it already.
From the way Genesis was looking at him, lips parted slightly, staring, maybe he hadn't realised he was paying attention. “Were you reading it?” he asked.
“You left me your copy,” Cloud said, trying to keep the defensiveness from his voice. It hadn't taken him long to realise it was something important, from the way the pages barely kept to the books spine to the uneven writing of a child declaring it the property of Genesis Rhapsodos, so the least he could do was look over it.
“Do you like it?” Genesis asked. Answering that felt like something that definitely had a right or a wrong answer.
“I don't know,” Cloud admitted. “I don't know if I understand it in the right way.”
“There is no right way,” Genesis told him. “There is only what it means to you.”
Cloud stopped and thought about it, but everything he thought seemed obvious. War can tear lives apart and compassion can help you rebuild, how important it is to keep your promises (and boy didn't he owe a big one back in Nibelheim), that even if something hurts if it's the right thing you're supposed to do it and that without dreams and honour – thanks Zack for helping drum that into his head – even heroes can end up corrupted by grief and loss. None of that meant much to him. It all sounded like a grand design and he was just some dumb guy who thought he might be a hero and instead, almost ended up getting turned into mincemeat by a mad scientist.
“It doesn't mean much to me,” Cloud said. “But I know it means a lot to you, so it's that makes it important to me.”
“I'm...”Genesis swallowed thickly. “Unsure how to repay such a statement of devotion.”
Was that pushing to hard? Something in his gut sparked, a fear that even curled up here, rejection could rear it's ugly head because he was trying to grab for too much at once.
“All I did was read,” Cloud said. “And listen.”
“And engage with something that isn't to your tastes,” Genesis said. “If I had a gil every time someone was listening to me without hearing me, I'd be richer than the President.”
“Maybe if you stopped repeating the same four acts, people would listen more.” Cloud suggested.
Genesis rolled his eyes, “You listened.”
“Upside of being an army grunt,” Cloud said. “No one ever thinks I'm listening. You should throw out a few curve balls if no one will notice to see what you can get away with.”
“I do sometimes,” Genesis smiled at him, but it was soft, private, less of a smirk. “I'm afraid don't know what is so important to you that I ought to be making time for it.”
Cloud shrugged, letting the bed move. “Me either.”
“I'm sure there is something deep in your heart that calls to you,” Genesis said. “Perhaps that is a journey we could take together,”
“I don't know if there is,” Cloud admitted. Sometimes it felt as if he was just hollow, but others, it felt as if his heart was so full it might burst bloody from his chest. “Maybe.”
“Maybe,” Genesis echoed. “Perhaps it's just not something you can vocalise. Some truths are bigger than the mere words we would try to describe them with.”
That felt true. If nothing else, that felt true right to the core of him. Then if that was true, maybe he could show it in other ways. Not poetry, he really didn't have the patience for it, but maybe something physical.
Cloud pressed his hand onto Genesis's hip and pulled him a little close, surprised by the lack of resistance. That could be the sheets but if Genesis minded being pulled close, Cloud was pretty sure he had no problem speaking up for it.
Looking at his expression, maybe he could even hear what Cloud was trying to say when the words still felt too big to say.

The Fiction of Love
The Fiction of Love
Soulmate AU: Where whatever your soulmate writes on their skin appears on yours.
Genesis Rhapsodos/Fem! Reader
In which you finally meet the source of the daily recitations of Loveless on your arm: Genesis Rhapsodos.
IT STARTED LIKE everyone else's soulmate experience─the writing appeared one day, out of the blue, on the skin of your forearm like a tattoo. They were always quick to fade, the magical ink devoured by your body's immune system, but they lingered long enough for you to notice them.
And, weirdly enough, the first words your soulmate wrote to you were the words of a poem. Whoever they were, they wrote in an amazingly talented hand, the calligraphy putting your awful, cramped words to absolute shame.
'Infinite in mystery is the gift of the goddess,' they wrote on your arm that morning,'we seek it thus, and take to the skies.'
From then on, every day since then, you would be sure to find phrases of that poem written somewhere on your body. On your arms, forearms, hands, knees, legs, but the most common was always the inside of your wrist, written there as if it was some secret, some thrilling note that you could look at when no one was around.
You hated it.
Unlike the rest of the women in your office building, you despised that poem─and the play─with every fiber of your being. It was one thing to hear it every day at work, brought on by the cooing assistants who fawned over the main male leads of the play and lusted for their numbers. But to be hounded by it even as you relaxed at home, unable to forget those damned words because they appeared on your skin almost every hour on the dot?
It was ridiculous.
Your spite had extended to your replies to your soulmate, so much so that you never replied at all once your hatred took hold of you. It had been nearly two months since you had stopped, six months since they had started to begin with, and yet your soulmate soldiered on, leaving the little phrases for you to find─in obvious spots, none of them ever inappropriate─and going on with whatever they did for a living.
It had to have been something time and attention consuming, because the one time you wrote back, drunk during mid-day, you didn't get a reply until well after twelve in the morning. You had just wrote, pretty awfully,'Why Loveless?' and passed out on the couch, dead to the world.
You woke up right in the middle of the reply appearing on your skin as they wrote it, the curls of their handwriting fascinating as every whorl and slash bloomed upon your arm like wicked black flowers.
'Why not Loveless?' They had replied.
Needless to say, the irritation had rose up as you had expected it to, and you pulled a hoodie on for the rest of the night to hide your arms from your line of sight. If you would have pulled up your sleeve just a bit then, you would have caught the extended reply that they added on to it.
'I'm just joking. Why Loveless? Because it is a truth; it is deliverance. It is a meaning.'
Unfortunately for you, the ink had been devoured long ago and replaced with another Loveless stanza, this one a little bit longer than the others they had written for you… and not at all part of the official poem.
'Even if the morrow is barren of promises
Nothing shall forestall my return
To become the dew that quenches the land
To spare the sands, the seas, the skies
I offer thee this silent sacrifice.'
It was then, staring at your arm as you stood in front of your office copier, the glow of the mako reactor shining upon your skin, that you realized this poem was much more than a means to annoy you. This was their passion, their joy, their hobby, all wrapped into one poem.
You made a decision then.
You booked the tickets, the priciest seats you could afford, rented out a modest but elegant dress for the evening, and made a reservation at a nice restaurant just across the street from the theater, even more pricey than the tickets.
'Theater #2, front steps, 8:30 P.M. Dress nice. Don't be late.'
That reply had been instantaneous.
'I wouldn't dream of it.'
The date set and your dress hanging comfortably in your closet, you began wondering what your soulmate looked like. Could you pick them out of a crowd? Or were they plain and unassuming, able to blend in easily, like camouflage?
You asked them, just to be sure.
'What do you look like?'
'Let's leave that as a mystery. I'm sure I'll be able to find you.'
Stumped, you stared at your arm with wide eyes, before scratching through your question and doodling a smiley face with the tongue sticking out of the side.
'Not if I find you first.'
'I look forward to the challenge.'
By the time the date rolled around and you were dressed and waiting by the steps of the theater, you were so nervous you could throw up. You were a little early and tried to settle your nerves with a small can of soda, but all that succeeded in doing was making the butterflies worse. You were lucky they had even agreed to the meeting in the first place; some people just never got that chance. And that didn't guarantee you would even get along, did it?
After a few minutes of failing to calm yourself down, you got on your phone and scrolled through the new ShinRa announcements, eager to take your mind off of the wrecking ball going off in your stomach. It only helped a little bit.
And then, something odd happened; like the proverbial red sea, people parted for someone walking through the crowd at a leisurely pace, except the 'red' was a man, and not a sea at all. Just from your distance, he was gorgeous, with russet red hair and mako green eyes that sparkled under the fluorescent lights.
Whoever got him as a soulmate had earned the jackpot, you thought wordlessly to yourself, watching as the crowd continued to part for him. Really, really lucky.
Then you realized, belatedly, like a sucker punch to the gut, that he was headed your way, those insanely green eyes trained on you with the focus of a predator. It was suddenly very hard to breathe, your lungs constricting at the disbelief in your mind, your phone very heavy in your hand.
There was no absolute way in hell--
"I told you I'd find you," he said with a smooth grin. His voice was like honey, rich and smooth with all of the right cadence, and sat right in your stomach like molten gold. You swore if you weren't so awe struck that you would have teetered back and fainted right then and there. "I win."
"I guess so," you replied faintly, barely a whisper. He seemed to acknowledge the effect he had on you because his eyes crinkled up just the slightest with a smirk that made you want to, quite literally, rip off that red leather jacket he wore and show him who was boss. "I'm [Name]."
"Genesis." You watched the emerald earring he had in his ear dangle and catch the lights, adding to his features spectacularly. "Are you ready to go inside?"
You had to stop yourself from sounding too eager. Your plans had went from having a nice time at a play, to dinner, and parting your separate ways and straight to watching a play, having dinner, and hopefully taking him back home with you if he was willing. "Yes, please."
Genesis smiled and tucked your hand into his elbow, like a gentleman--you could feel your face growing as hot as coals--and escorted you up the stairs, careful not to let you trip and fall. As you walked with him to the stands to give the doorman your tickets, you noticed that he didn't exactly walk with the awkwardness of a normal person. His gait was smooth, fluid, elegant and refined, as if someone had drilled him to always be light on his feet. Add that to the sword you could feel at his side and the beautiful green eyes, and you knew you had a SOLDIER for a soulmate.
"You're a SOLDIER?" You asked quietly as you entered the quiet zone of the play stage.
He chuckled lightly. "What gave it away?"
"Let's see… Other than the sword and the way you carry yourself?" You teased, stomach jolting when he moved his hand to the small of your back to urge you towards your seat. "Your eyes. I've never seen such a concentrated color before."
"Yes, the tell tale sign of mako energy," he lamented, if only to earn a laugh out of you. "But yes, I am a First Class SOLDIER."
Your head turned so quickly that you were sure your neck would have snapped. "First Class? And you're here with me, not on some elite mission?"
"Of course." He blinked, tilted his head, and furrowed his eyebrows as if he was the one who should be confused. "Why would I turn down the chance to see Loveless with a goddess such as yourself?"
Oh, you felt the heat now, curling down your spine like a snake and he the charmer. It should have been cheesy, given the situation and his love for a poem mentioning such a goddess, but for some reason, it wasn't, and it made goofy feelings rise in your chest, along with understanding.
It was more than just a poem.
He grinned when you brought your pamphlet up to fan yourself, leaning back in your chair and mumbling,"Let's just watch the play, okay?"
Genesis was, thankfully, tame during the entire thing. He was just as absorbed into it as you were, those pretty green eyes taking in the play actors with relish, and absentmindedly stroking his leather clad thumb over your knuckles as if it was natural to him.
When the play was over, the actors gave out cute silk flowers as a souvenir, thanking everyone for their attendance and citing their next performance as sometime next week.
Dinner, you came to find out, was fair game for Genesis.
Not only did he pull some strings behind your back to pay for it himself, he also switched your reserved table to the most secluded one in the entire building: the Elite floor where only people like Rufus Shinra dined and held their meetings and drank fine wine.
There were only three other tables on the floor, each one hosting a couple, and the room was dark, barely lit by glowing red lanterns as a centerpiece. Clearly it was a popular spot to be wooed.
You caught envious stares from the waitresses, a few offering you winks and a thumb's up, as you made your way up the stairs, Genesis behind you and making sure you didn't fall. You half guessed he was also in it for the view as well.
When you were seated and left to order your food, Genesis spoke up.
"So, you know what I do for a living, but you have yet to tell me anything about yourself." He propped open his menu and looked over it to you.
"Well… There isn't much to say." You shrugged and focused on trying to undo the straps of your heels with your feet, feeling your toes ache with the added height. "I'm a bit boring compared to you."
"I digress," he hummed,"but go on."
"I work in an office building for twelve hours a day," you deadpanned, much to his amusement. "It's boring."
"Allow me."
Confused, you opened your mouth to ask what he meant, but all of the breath left your lungs once again when his fingers wrapped around your ankle and unbuckled the straps to your heels with nimble fingers. He took his time, sliding his palm up your leg to take a hold of your calf as he removed the shoe from your foot.
Relieved from the pressure of your shoes, you let out a pleased sigh, but when you looked back across the table at him, those green eyes were glittering dangerously, trained on your face for a solitary second before getting to work on the other shoe.
You couldn't help the sudden heat rising in your belly. That look alone had made you tingle.
Before he could open his mouth and say something that would probably make you forego dinner plans entirely and drag him back to your house, the waitress came back, sheepish, and took your orders.
When you finished ordering--a salmon filet drizzled with soy sauce and wine--Genesis was busy studying you, watching you toy with the strap of your dress nervously.
Unfortunately, he never did make any more moves on you for the rest of dinner, but your stomach was glad for that because every time he looked at you even slightly, you would feel food get lodged in your throat.
You spoke well into the morning hours, getting tipsy enough that Genesis had to carry you all the way back to your apartment because the cabs weren't running that late. He was amused, if anything, and laughed whenever tried to come on to him, slurring sweet promises in his ear.
Every time, he would say,"Perhaps later when you're not so drunk."
"If not now, when?" You whined pathetically, leaning against your door as he picked the lock, unwilling to take the plunge down your bra to retrieve the keys.
"Soon," he said, his voice full of dark promise, enough that your alcohol addled mind could make out the desire in his voice like an arrow to the heart. "Soon."
He left you with just that promise, vanishing down the hall and into the night.
You remembered the look on his face, the tone of his voice, even when you woke up, and took maybe five seconds before you were yanking a pen out of your nightstand and writing on your arm.
'Now?"
A few seconds passed, then three minutes. And there it was, written in his elegant penmanship: your answer.
'3:40 P.M. Don't be late.'

Mentorship
Setting: Shinra Headquarters, Midgar
POV: 1st person (Mithra)
Summary: Angeal takes Mithra on as his second apprentice alongside Zack, and he introduces her to Genesis and Sephiroth.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I stood outside of the training room waiting for Zack to show up. A week had passed since I met him, and I was eager to meet his mentor, Angeal. We had been hanging out a lot as well, and he quickly became a good friend. Both of us had seemingly boundless energy and friendly personalities. We talked about our childhoods, or at least his childhood and whatever I had experienced before:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“So Mithra, where are you from?”
“I’m not exactly sure, but my earliest memory is waking up in the slums. I don’t know how I got there. What about you?”
“Me? I’m from Gongaga.” I couldn’t help but laugh at how funny it sounded.
“Hey, what’s so funny? Don’t you know about Gongaga?”
“I didn’t know there were so many other places out there. The slums were the only world I knew for so long.”
“Gongaga’s pretty far from here,” Zack said. “There’s a broken reactor nearby, but it’s a pretty sweet place. You’ve gotta watch out for the frogs though. Some of them can turn you into one if you’re not careful. I know that from experience.”
“You got turned into a frog once?” I laughed.
“Several times, actually. My dad got really good at reversing the transformation,” he said, his face blushing slightly. I giggled, finally feeling that I’d found someone I could really relate to. Even though he wasn’t a former slum-dwelling thief, I had never met someone as cheerful and open-minded as him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I smiled at the memory before hearing footsteps walking down the hallway. I turned my head towards them, and low and behold, there he was. Zack grinned at me as he stopped in front of me.
“Angeal’s not here yet. You wanna go in and spar?” I nodded eagerly. I had been practicing for hours every day, and my skills have been improving quite significantly. I had also spoken with the Director about scouting missions, and he told me that the three Firsts and he would test me on my skills in the coming weeks.
Zack and I entered the training room, which was bare of any furniture. We stood opposite of each other, drawing our weapons. Aside from my standard issued Shinra short sword, I had a long bow and a quiver of arrows. If I was gonna be a scout, I might as well learn ranged combat.
Zack made the first move, performing an overhead slash, which I shielded easily. I took advantage of his position and jabbed him in the stomach with my elbow, causing him to stagger backwards. We continued at it for a few minutes before Zack crumpled to the floor, panting heavily.
“Damnit Mithra, I still have training with Angeal! You’re wearing me out!” I smirked, my practice was definitely paying off.
Just after that, another presence entered the room. I turned my head to see a tall, muscular man. He almost looked like he was related to Zack, with black chin-length hair, a small beard, and the signature SOLDIER eyes. He was wearing a black SOLDIER uniform and holding a short sword identical to mine and Zack’s. The most noticeable thing about him, however, was the giant broadsword he had strapped to his back. He looked at Zack, smirking.
“I see the newcomer has overwhelmed you, puppy,” he chuckled. Zack rolled his eyes and picked himself up off the floor.
“Shut up, Angeal,” he retorted before turning to me. “Mithra, this is Angeal Hewley, my mentor.” Angeal held out his hand, and I shook it.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Miss Valkyris. Zack’s told me about you, and you seem very promising in your abilities as a SOLDIER.”
“Please, just call me Mithra. It’s a pleasure to meet you as well, Commander Hewley,” I said nervously, struggling to make eye contact.
“If you don’t need formalities, then neither do I. Angeal is fine.” He let go of my hand. “You’re a former thief, aren’t you?”
I gulped. What was he gonna think of me now? I nodded in shame; I knew that my past would haunt me forever. Luckily Angeal noticed, and he did nothing that would embarrass me further.
“I’m glad that you’ve decided to join SOLDIER, as we are always looking for new recruits that can be sent on stealth missions.” He drew his sword just as Zack had done earlier. “Give me a few hits.”
I struck his sword several times, but on one, he managed to push my blade away with a fair amount of force. However, I took the opportunity to roll underneath him and get behind him, remaining directly behind him so he couldn’t swing at me. Taking care not to get cut on his giant sword, I swung the sword in front of his neck, landing it inches away from his skin. His eyes widened, thoroughly impressed with my performance.
I lowered my sword, and he turned around. I bowed respectfully, hoping that I didn’t do anything wrong. He cleared his throat, and I looked up at him.
“That was very impressive. You excel at being unpredictable and disarming your opponent. I’m sure the Director will be pleased to know this. I also see that you are an archer as well.” He gestured to my bow.
“I’m learning, but yes, I also like to use some ranged weapons.” I replied. Angeal hummed to himself in satisfaction.
“Good. Adaptability is essential in the military.” He turned to Zack. “I’m gonna go and talk to Lazard about assigning scout missions to Mithra. We shouldn’t take long, and then I’ll train you afterwards.”
“I can’t complain about a training delay,” Zack said before doing squats. Angeal motioned for the two of us to follow him, and he led us out of the training room and to Director Lazard’s office. Zack smiled at me encouragingly the whole way.
We reached the Director’s office, and I instantly spotted two SOLDIERs standing in front of the desk, their backs facing us. One of them had rusty red hair and a reddish coat on, and the other had silver hair that went past their waist and a black leather coat. I was instantly drawn to the silver-haired one; wasn’t I the only female SOLDIER? Whoever they were, they looked absolutely beautiful, and I could not take my eyes off of them. Angeal cleared his throat.
“Director Lazard, I’d like to talk to you about Mithra Valkyris.” The two SOLDIERs turned around, and to my embarrassment, I saw that the silver-haired figure was a man. I did my best to hide the flush that came over my face. I thought he was a woman, a very tall one at that, and a very attractive one. Zack noticed my nervousness and squeezed my hand in support.
“Angeal, did you really have to interrupt us?” The auburn man asked in annoyance. “We were talking about something important. Couldn’t you have waited a few minutes?” Angeal rolled his eyes.
“My bad, Genesis.” Lazard turned his attention towards the black-haired First, and he glanced at me as well.
“Has she gotten a chance to demonstrate her skills to you, Commander Hewley?”
“Yes, and she’s very promising. She managed to sneak under me after I blocked her, and if she wanted to she could’ve cut my throat.” Genesis scoffed.
“Not as aware as you think you are, huh Angeal?” He laughed at himself, and Angeal rolled his eyes again. I wondered if he got headaches from doing that so much.
“Very good,” said Lazard. “Are you recommending her for scout?”
“Yes,” replied Angeal, confidently, “she’ll do well on stealth missions.” Lazard smiled.
“Well then, Mithra, congratulations. You now have the title of Agent. I trust that you’ll do well in your upcoming missions.” He turned to his computer to type out his latest report. Angeal turned around to leave the Director’s office, and Zack and I followed him. Genesis and the silver-haired SOLDIER caught up with us.
“Angeal, how could you not introduce us to your second pupil?” Genesis asked, looking at me. I held out my hand.
“I’m Mithra Valkyris,” I said. Genesis smiled at my initiative, taking my hand and kissing the top of it.
“I’ve heard about you, Mithra Valkyris. The first female SOLDIER. Commander Genesis Rhapsodos, at your service.” I smiled at his charisma. Genesis let go of my hand before staring at the third SOLDIER.
“Sephiroth, be a gentleman and greet the lady!” I looked at him and tried my hardest not to blush. I had crushed on him earlier because I thought he was a woman!
“I’m Sephiroth, General of SOLDIER,” he said quickly, shaking my hand. His eyes drilled into me as if he was searching for my true emotions. I felt intimidated by him, maybe because his pupils looked weird.
“I’m Mithra,” I squeaked. I could see the faintest hint of a smile form on Sephiroth’s lips.
“I’m sure we’ll become well-acquainted if you’ll be training under Angeal,” Sephiroth said calmly.
“I don’t know how you’ll be able to train two rambunctious Thirds, Angeal,” Genesis snorted. “The puppy already stresses you out enough.”
“I’ll try not to be too much trouble for him,” I retorted. “Unless you would like to mentor me, Genesis.” Genesis held his hands up.
“I have a tendency to set things on fire, so maybe I could help you with magic,” he replied. I laughed in response.
“And I don’t think you’d be able to keep up with me,” Sephiroth added. Genesis scoffed.
“Yes, no one can beat Shinra’s poster boy.” He rolled his eyes, and I snickered.
“Anyways, I’m gonna go to the simulator room and do some stealth practice. I can’t get rusty if Lazard expects me to do scouting missions.” I turned to head towards the simulation room when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked over to see Genesis.
“Let us accompany you. We haven’t gotten to see what you can do, and Lazard did say that we’d get to see it as well.” I smiled and nodded, and Genesis and Sephiroth followed me to my destination. Time to prove myself worthy of making Second Class.
The edge of no return: a Sephgen ficlet
Inspired by this piece of art by @00000133330311
⚠️ warning for: slight blood; canon typical descriptions of war, nothing graphic but you have been warned; illusions to human experimentation but now explored; mentions of a panic attack; hyperventilation.
I think that’s it but let me know if I’ve missed something.
***
Genesis doesn’t admit to being afraid of Sephiroth very often. The knowledge that he almost always is is sickening at the best of times. It feels weak, pathetic. He is Genesis fucking Rhapsodos he is not weak. Even still… outside of his prideful stubbornness there are times when Sephiroth truly does frighten him.
This… is one of those times.
The battlefield in-front of them is cluttered with bodies. Some dead, some alive. All covered in a thick layer of mud, blood and sweat. Soldiers both Wutai and Shinra picking through the dead to make note of the families they will have to inform of their own loss.
Genesis knows better than most that he has no right to mourn the dead. He is their commander. He, in many ways, is their executor. Yet mourn their loss he does. Even after years of distancing himself from his fellow men to ease the blow. It never gets easier.
Above the scorched field, stood on the rising mound of destroyed tanks and ATV’s Sephiroth surveyed the scene, Masimune in hand; blood splattering his face. In the heat of the battle Genesis had lost track of him. It hadn’t mattered at the time; Sephiroth was an immovable force, he would not be struck down. Now however Genesis felt that loosing sight of him had perhaps cost too many their lives.
“He’s been stood up there for at least an hour, “ said a deep voice behind him. He didn’t have to turn to know it was Angeal.
Genesis hummed, slightly too afraid to move.
“You know he won’t come down from the high unless you bring him down Gena.” Angeal moves to brush some dirt from his friends face. A reassurance that falls on deaf ears.
“You assume I wield any kind of power over him at all…” he resorts, but there’s no real bite to his words. Angeal knows as well as Genesis does that Sephiroth has only and will only come back to reality if Genesis is the one to guide him there. It had always been that way. Genesis doesn’t ever want to think about what would happen if he were to use that ability for evil. That power of his could level planets.
Years from now the irony of that thought will haunt him to his dying day. Years from now he will be slapped by the goddesses chosen for how he chose to use his power over the Demon of Wutai in the end.
Right now though, he didn’t feel powerful… he felt afraid.
“You give yourself too little credit.” Angeal places a hand on his shoulder. “He has only ever listened to you,”
“How is the puppy?” He hedges.
Angeal snorts softly. “Kind of you to care,” he’s not letting Genesis get away with it but he is indulging him for at least a second or two.
“I’ve always cared,” Genesis snaps. “I know I don’t engage! I know they all think me rude and self centred, but I care!” Angeal hushed him, placatingly.
“I know Gena, I’m sorry.” He grips the back of Genesis’ neck and some of the tension leaks out of him. “He’s a little traumatised I think. You remember how it was, the shock of capture that comes after your first battle. He’s dealing with the shattered hero illusion, but he’ll be okay,”
“Keep an eye on him,”
“I always do. Now stop stalling,” with a shove Angeal pushes Genesis in the direction of the vehicle mound. He knew he wouldn’t get away with it long.
There was nothing else to concentrate on but Sephiroth. His eerie, deadly, stillness; his piercing gaze as it presided like a hawk over the landscape, looking for a single twitch or spasm in the mound of bodies to descend upon. To snuff out.
It hadn’t always been this bad. Genesis remembered a time when they were fifteen (perhaps Sephiroth had been a shade younger,) when the deadened staring had held great grief in it. When Genesis had more so had to stop the shaking than claw him back from the murderous haze.
Something had changed around nineteen though. He and Angeal had not long made FIRST class when Sephiroth had been ordered into the lab for a week and comeback different somehow.
He still slept by Genesis’ side, still flirted in that awkwardly adorable and very Sephiroth kind of way. He was still Sephiroth, he was still the man Genesis fell in love with. But every now and then there was something, a dimming of sorts in the back of his eyes that turned into a void when he had a weapon in his hands. There had been training room incidents that had left many injured at best.
The only person he had never hurt had been Genesis himself. There was no explanation to it, and if Hojo were asked it was a defect in Sephiroth’s training, but he never got that voided look when he was focused on Genesis. One day, that wouldn’t save him from Sephiroth’s blade. But that day will be his own fault.
“My love,” Genesis called softly, picking his way up sharp blasted out metal. “My love can you look at me?”
There was no reaction from Sephiroth, not to Genesis’ words at least. A movement to the left of him made him twitch and swivel his head to the noise. In any other situation it would have amused Genesis. He could always imagine Sephiroth chittering like a cat watching the birds when he was intent on watching something. Now he looked larger more dangerous. One wrong move and he’d pin Genesis under his paw.
“Sephiroth,” he says closer now. His voice wavered and he cleared his throat. “Look at me,” Genesis took Sephiroth’s face in his hands.
“Listen to what I’m telling you. The battle is finished, you can come back.”
Nothing.
“SOLDIER first class, Sephiroth!” Sephiroth jerks. Genesis hates ding that to him, but it gets the job done. Sephiroth looked at his face but didn’t quite see it.
“The battle is over dear heart. Come back to me.” Genesis ran his thumb through the blood on his face. None of it was his own. It did not take the once over Genesis gave him anyway to know that he wasn’t hurt.
His lovely hair was drenched in red, it would stain for a day or two, but that just meant more time helping him wash it. It was something Genesis always liked doing.
“Gen?” Sephiroth murmured to him. his eyes were still clouded, but it was now with the confused depersonalised terror. “What did I do?” He asked and as he did he started shaking.
“Nothing you were not supposed to,” Genesis said evasively. It wouldn’t do to further distress Sephiroth here. Sephiroth however, was insistent as ever.
“But I did do something?!” He started to breath heavier. “Please Genesis, please, what did I do.”
Genesis moves a hand to Sephiroth’s neck and pulls him down to touch foreheads.
“Shhhh, shh my Angel,”
Sephiroth did not cry. He never did. He did not cry, or make distressed noises, he just shook. Shook and stayed silent as Genesis tried to guide him back to himself.
***
From the ground, Angeal looked up at them, Zack under his arm as the boy came down from his second panic attack since the battle ended.
“They look like Angels of death,” he whispered to Angeal solemnly.
The man could only sigh and squeeze the boys Shoulder. He couldn’t blame Zack for viewing them that way. Had they not been his friends he would have seen them exactly the same way. They were both the strongest SOLDIER’s Shinra had to offer. If Angeal was being truthful, they both had the potential to burn the world down.
But to him they were as they had always been. Two broken boy soldiers, too traumatised and broken down by the president and RnD to do more than cling to each other through the storm.
He feared the day one of them let go…
Laughter lingered in the balmy evening air, the melody of young love flourishing in the wake of earlier frivolity. She could’ve just said goodnight and been on her way; but there had been so much promise in the sway of hips and the deviancy of a smile, it would be rude to just abandon him. And so the impulse had been born, a beckoning finger having  lured him in and led him, like a piper from the bright lights of a dancefloor and out into the streets of Midgar. It wasn’t something she made a habit of, but there was a time for spontaneity and this was apparently it.
Fingers intertwined against the warm sanctuary of a palm, Aerith had led him home; barely checked carnality residing in the slew of open mouthed kisses upon her doorstep, hands knotting in strands of copper while she’d tried so hard to stifle the breathless amusement that had ensued. Gaia, she was happy. Intoxicated and high on his heady mix of love and distraction. “Shhhh.” She warned with a finger to her lips, hoping to avoid waking her mother and explaining this irritatingly handsome house guest as she led him inside and stumbled into her own umbrella stand in the process.
“You’re the one making the noise, love.” It’s a purr against her neck and she can’t even argue, teeth biting down into her lip to stop the giggle that wants to ripple forth. Her hand tugged his own, footsteps measured and well practiced to avoid creaking floorboards as she leads her beloved Freckle up the staircase, with an expression that is far more mischievous than it ought to be. She’s almost sorry he’s not getting the full house tour, although perhaps a little glad too that the blanketing shroud of darkness has masked a multitude of cluttered sins.
It isn’t a long journey and yet it feels like an age, seconds stretching into what feels like days until the door of her bedroom can safely click closed behind them and usher the redhead into her own little piece of the world. It’s all down hill from there; restraint forgotten in a flurry of hands and lips, clothes shirked off beneath wandering digits and scattering themselves across a darkened floor. As frantic as it is frenetic, her mouth claimed his throat, nipping at tender flesh, marking out all the promises she’d made earlier in the evening, until he returned the favour.
It’s carnality plain and simple; when Genesis snaked his arms beneath her thighs and hoisted her up, legs encircling his waist with a hitch of breath that was unexpectedly sinful. The feel of him was dizzyingly addictive; the warmth of his skin, the sturdiness of his chest, the insistent hardness pressing just shy of where she’d very much like him to be. It was maddening - and he knew it.
Their eyes locked briefly, even beneath the inky shroud of her unlit room; vibrant green drowning in storm flecked blue to affirm consent before everything becomes a sordid blur. There was never really any doubt, but there’s an understanding there, a mutual respect and consideration underpinning the more provocative of actions. The act warranted a kiss, something drawn out and sensual, tongue probing, exploring the intricate caverns of an overly dramatic mouth until her backside met with the cold grain of a paper strewn desk.
Aerith had barely realised they were moving until she was there; rolled her eyes too at the complete disregard for her bed some six feet away, but there was excitement in the spontaneity, something distinctly Freckle about it too, although she didn’t have much time to tell him. Groping sideways for her bedside lamp, soon the room was awash with a muted yellow, light casting streaks of shadow across his toned musculature and her own corresponding curves. Yet it was a magazine that had served to distract, smug amusement stretching far and wide across the First’s face at the image of himself daubed on the cover of Firaga, the resident gossip rag, just shy of their position.
“Think about me a lot in your bedroom, do you?” The tease was inevitable, the barest hint of a whisper against her skin accompanied by an intrepid hand sliding between her legs. “About these hands…” His mouth found her neck. “…and this mouth…”   It earned him a smack. Or rather a stuffed panda to the head, as it’s all she can reach, but there’s no denial in it, just the subtle arch into his touch and half stifled laughter against his shoulder. It’s all it takes in the end, flirtation paving the way to action as hands had seized her hips, drawing her down onto his throbbing length in a single fluid motion.
Lips part in a satisfying ‘oh’, nails clamouring at his shoulders as the flower girl leant back, tugging him with her in a tangle of warm limbs and lust strewn debauchery. It takes more effort than she’d like to bite back the sounds he conjures, his body playing her own like a harp with every well timed thrust. Aerith’s breath falls in delicate pants, chest rising and falling, until the beginnings of a moan part her lips and she has to bite down to stop it, red blooming across her own flesh in a sanguine smear.
The salve to her own self inflicted injury came in the form of a kiss, a soft and tender thing amidst such lubricity; but it was also a mouth to muffle her moans as he continues to conjure them, the rhythmic rock of his hips remarkably soundless, all too well practiced in the art of covert affection. The thought made the ancient blush, pelvis rising to meet him, to deepen that connection and edge closer to a release. Knotting her fingers in strands of vivid copper absentmindedly, there’s no hiding the moment it hits, her tug suddenly involuntarily sharp as her back arched and she clenched around him, wordless prayers sung against his lips in a connection forged of tongue and teeth.
In the throes of an orgasmic haze, her arms slackened against him, fingers splayed across his back, holding him there, so intimately connected as Genesis sought his own release. Ever obliging, the brunette rolled her hips, rising to meet him as much as their position would allow, coaxing out a hard won degree of mutual satisfaction until at last she could feel the tension ebb and the warm glow of post coital contentment danced across freckle strewn cheeks. Aerith exhaled as he withdrew, trailing sticky life down her thigh as a lofty sigh ensued. She shouldn’t pout at his absence, but it was inevitable, an unconscious act, forged from the sudden loss of contact in a way that was so intimately vulnerable it held a meaning that transcended mere carnality.
The pout warranted another kiss; a blessing of lips far more sedate than all that had come before. Maybe it was a come down, but it was still enjoyable, still cherished and pivotal even in the wake of such an improvised high. Coiling his arms around the brunette’s form, the redhead stepped back, tugging her with him towards the softer promise of a mattress, plushies unceremoniously knocked to the floor to make room for them both beneath a patchwork shroud. There was only one thing left for it; fingertips dancing up and down a bare arm, heralding sleep in a sweat slicked tangle of limbs as he became a defacto pillow.
He’d definitely slept in worse places and with worse company; and while the occasional mouthful of curls nearly strangling him had proven to be a small health hazard, there was something sweet about the tranquility of falling asleep with someone in his arms. Particularly when that someone had stolen his heart from his chest the very first moment they’d met and was now a welcome dose of sunlight in a sea of clouds. For a good five hours he’d managed to stay like that, nose pressed to the slope of a creamy neck, his own eyes closed and content in this, the most innocuous of pastimes. Yet like any good thing, it couldn’t last forever.
As the sun began to creep across the horizon and birds began their incessant cheep, Genesis stirred, a quiet kiss blessing a sleepy temple, as he pried himself from their contortion worthy sleeping arrangement. “Blossom, where’s the bathroom?”  Without cracking open an eye, Aerith gestured vaguely sideways, her face buried in the pillow as she mumbled her own response. “Second door on the left.”
Resisting the urge to chuckle, the auburn soldier rose to his feet, eyes scanning the room for something to lessen the likelihood of streaking through the unfamiliar house. While he certainly had no problem with displays of nudity; there was still an element of good manners to be had while occupying someone else’s space. Besides, there was an awfully tempting looking bath robe just begging to be modelled for his sleepy-headed paramour.
And so it went, the famed and revered Genesis Rhapsodos, clad in a fuzzy lilac robe that didn’t strictly cover all that much, had emerged from the recesses of a flower girl’s bedroom, after a night of being magnanimously and dare he say it, diligently discreet only to come face to face with the stern and unyielding face of her mother. A lesser man might’ve panicked. Might’ve dropped everything and simply run; but where was the sense in that? He may as well own it. Sheepishly the first grinned, hand rubbing at the back of his neck as he ignored the glaring daggers being burned into his soul.
“Good Morning; where’s your coffee maker?”
SEPHIROTH BEFORE NIBELHEIM ---> PART 1- RELATIONSHIPS
This will most likely be a three part series expanding on what our favourite Hero was like before Nibelheim because hey, before he was a monster, he was a human. The topic for this post is his relationships with certain characters during this broad time period (Also slightly based around interactions already done on this blog so some characters may have more skewed ratings). I hope you all enjoy the read <3 (Also enjoy this meme of a pic, I call it the many forms of Sexyroth tyty)
PLACED  UNDER THE CUT DUE TO LENGTH. LEO PROTECTING Y’ALLS DASHES <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THE TURKS- Opinions on the Group: Mild Indifference
Veld: Closeness: 6/10, Trust Level: 5/10,
Sephiroth has a lot of respect for Veld as a leader. When he gets sent on a mission with particular Turks, his first point of contact is and always has been Veld. While he doesn’t really have that much of an opinion on the department other than they are a secretive bunch of Suits (literally), Veld has always made a lasting positive impressions through words of advice for the SOLDIER. He could tell that Veld was well trained, he put on that caring facade exceptionally but he appreciated the words of wisdom all the same.
Tseng: Closeness: 2/10, Trust Level: 5/10
This man was someone that Sephiroth did not have many encounters with, but he knew of him. When he would go to visit Veld for briefings if he was going on a mission with a partnered Turk, Tseng was almost always there. Exchanges were brief, merely giving each other a respectful nod before going about their business. At some point, he just assumed Tseng was Veld’s new secretary, he had no idea that Veld was grooming the man to become his successor.
Reno: Closeness 1/10, Trust Level: 3/10
Good old ‘Torch Head’ himself. At this rate, Sephiroth is choosing to forget Reno’s name on purpose when he is assigned a mission with him. While he finds the redhead’s opinion on him amusing, he hates the way he acts around him. He will always let Reno take charge in their missions just to spare him an argument, but when push comes to shove, Sephiroth will end up doing his own thing if Reno’s plan goes South. Mind you, if Reno was in danger the SOLDIER would still come to save him, much to his chagrin. ‘No man left behind’ mentally coming into full play there.
Rude: Closeness: 6/10, Trust Level: 7/10
Probably his favourite out of all of the Turks in terms of work ethic, Rude is very professional and from that; Sephiroth has formed a mutual respect for the fisticuff fighter which he hopes the knuckle sandwich provider shares. During missions, they work in tandem and are incredibly badass at what they do. Their fighting styles compliment each other perfectly and they are both quiet. They know what to do, no need to dilly dally with words. Although, Sephiroth does crack one dry joke here and there to lighten the mood.
Cissnei/Shuriken: Closeness: 6/10, Trust Level: 6/10
Cissnei is a unique one, while he’s never had the pleasure of going on missions with her personally, he has seen her work and it impressed him. For someone so young (at the time), Sephiroth was quite surprised that they had this martial skill. He wondered why ShinRa were employing such young people, she reminds him of his own childhood and teen years as such, they’ve formed a surprising friendship; however he has certain trust issues with her since she is a Turk, perhaps she’s putting on the gentle act much like how Veld does. He offered to train her once, but she politely declined with the comment:
 “No thanks, I’d prefer not to be humiliated by the Poster Boy of the SOLDIER programme.” Did I mention that he finds mild annoyance when people call him ‘Poster Boy’?
As for the rest of the Turks (Legend, Martial Arts, Gun, Katana etc/), he never really had an equal share of time with them to formulate an opinion. He had been on missions with these particular people in the past but never properly formed a relationship with them. a handful of Turks is more than enough for him.
SHINRA EXECS- Opinion on the Group: Half of them are weird, the rest are alright
President Shinra: Closeness: 4/10, Trust Level 4/10
When it comes to the President, Sephiroth holds his tongue a lot. While he morally dislikes the old man, he respects the conviction of his cause. His ambition. When given orders from Shinra himself, he follows them to the tee. While he does not know the truth yet, he will eventually come to kill this man. Good riddance when he does.
Heidegger: Closeness: 8/10, Trust Level: 7/10
Out of everyone on the board, Sephiroth finds his relationship with Heidegger to be the most fruitful. This is thanks to the Wutai War. He protected Heidegger and acted in his stead, leading the ShinRa forces on a grand conquest. Heidegger is the reason why he became a hero, a Legendary one at that. He holds this old man in high regard as both a mentor and a fatherly figure, he only wishes he wasn’t so stern on other people all the time.
Reeve Tuesti: Closeness: 5/10, Trust Level: 7/10
 Sephiroth had first heard about Reeve when he was in his early teens, and while he’s only spoken to the man a couple of times, the Soldier believes that he has the best intentions in mind out of everyone on the board. He wishes that he was more socially inclined to speak with him but sadly, he rarely gets a chance to talk to him nor does he have that great of a motivation to approach him. If he needed someone to vent too though who wasn’t his inner circle of friends, Reeve would be a decent candidate.
Palmer: Closeness: ?/10, Trust Level ?/10
Sephiroth has never actually spoken or done anything related with Palmer. He’s also probably another one of those people that the poor SOLDIER forgets the names off. In this case, Palmer is good old ‘Butter Fingers’.
Scarlet: Closeness: 1/10, Trust Level: 2/10
When Sephiroth first met Scarlet, he wouldn’t lie, she was quite the sight. But when he eventually learnt how she acted and her demeanour, his opinion on her quickly changed. He considered her as a nasty piece of work, the looks of a goddess but the attitude of a heartless wretch. He was always displeased when sharing a room with her, and conversations between them devolved into a contest of dry wit and sarcasm. What a bucket load of fun!
Professor Hojo: Closeness: 5/10, Trust Level: 2/10
Ah yes, the best for last. Sephiroth’s pops. He always felt neglected, and always felt as if Hojo was this close to accidently killing him. Any time he asked for something, he was met with a caring smile and what he wanted but it didn’t matter when he’d have to spend most of his time inside a glass tube. The older he got, the more creeped out he felt with his father to the point where SOLDIER training became quite freeing. Even if it was hard, he didn’t want to have to stay with Hojo any longer than he needed too. Sephiroth despises Hojo. If he had a choice, he would’ve picked Gast.
SOLDIER GANG- Opinion on the Group: Brotherhood, Loyalty, Family.
Genesis Rhapsodos: Closeness: 10/10, Trust Level: 9/10
Life wouldn’t be the same with a brother without a little sibling rivalry. Sephiroth sees Genesis as the older brother who always tries to beat him into shape, keep him on his toes. He couldn’t ask for a better training partner, nor a better friend. He feeds off of their competition, it what makes him strive harder to succeed. While he knows Genesis wishes he could have the title of hero, he at least is glad knowing that the huge burden on his shoulders isn’t on Genesis’ shoulders. He wants to spare one of his best friends that eternal weight. The poetry though? Maybe he could lighten up on. Sephiroth can only listen to the same verses of LOVELESS for so long before he gets bored or slaps the book out of his hands and tosses it into a river.
Angeal Hewley: Closeness 10/10, Trust Level: 10/10
While Genesis is the brother that he possesses the rivalry with, Angeal is the brother that Sephiroth confides in the most when he’s in need of someone to speak too. There is a mutual understanding and respect between the two and Sephiroth considers their friendship to be one of the most important parts of his life, up there with his friendship with Genesis. They both ground him and remind him that they aren’t just SOLDIERS. Training with Angeal is like an honourable duel for Sephiroth, it isn’t as theatrical as with Genesis and a lot more pacey, less magic.
Zack Fair: Closeness 9/10, Trust Level: 10/10
Sephiroth made it his business to take Angeal’s own student under his wing should he be otherwise encumbered with other things. As such, Sephiroth places a great deal of trust in Zack and wishes nothing but great success for the future hero in the making. Sephiroth sees him as someone with the potential to become even greater than he could ever be. Traits that he never really had. A true apprentice.
Others
Aerith Gainsborough: Closeness: 9/10, Trust Level: 10/10
They met when they were still kids, and formed a meticulous bond over what was happening between the two in Hojo’s lab. She was afraid, and so was he, but Sephiroth would put on a brave face and would often converse with her from behind the glass tubes that were their prison. When she eventuallyvanished along with her mother, Sephiroth was left distraught and quite upset. He wondered where she went, wondered why she left. He wouldn’t get his answer until later on in his life. Both had grown up, Sephiroth as a Hero and Aerith as a simple flower girl. They reformed their bond, with Sephiroth trusting her with any of his burdens. They also braid each others hair when given the chance!
Cloud Strife: Closeness: 6/10, Trust Level: 6/10
For the very brief time that he did get to meet Cloud, Sephiroth felt quite annoyed with the young upstart infantryman. Too much of a fanboy, saw too much of Zack in him. But he eventually warmed to the blonde as time went on. The only reason why Sephiroth allowed himself to get to know Cloud just a little bit better was because of Zack. He liked Cloud, but that didn’t last very long.
Blood Of Others
Word count: 2287
Warnings: War themes, injuries, minor character death, mental abuse (?), let me know if other things need to be tagged
Characters: Sephiroth, Angeal Hewley, Genesis Rhapsodos, Hojo
Authors note: This took forever to write but @blccdlet kept me motivated to do this.
Sephiroth's hands fidget around, adjusting the low ponytail his hair was held back in. He pulled it lower, then pushed it back up. He messed with the ends of his hair, already falling to his hips. If it wasn't his hair it was his gloves, tracing the seams carefully, trying to memorize the details of the leather. Leather wasn't cheap. Far from it actually. Why did they chose leather, he wondered to himself. Why was he here? A mission. They were at war of course. A trying time of blood shead on both ends. Sephiroth recalled his debrief before they send him off to war. They were going to a military town in Wutai. They were supposed to take out the main military force. It was supposed to be easy, especially for the mako enhanced SOLDIER.
"I'm doing it for them." The infantry man spoke, holding a photo of his wife and two children.
"How old are they?"
"Five and ten."
The conversation between the men caught the General's attention. It had the seventeen year old tilting his head as he looked at the photo himself. It was odd, to say the least. To have something outside of ShinRa was puzzling in itself. "What are their names?" Sephiroth spoke for the first time since they loaded up for the mission, finally sitting still. It honestly startled the two men who had been conversing of home to have such a high rank speak so commonly.
"Ah...My wife is Marina. This one is Rinku and the youngest is Silfi." The man explained, pointing to each person in the photo. "What about you? If you don't mind my asking, sir."
"My mother's name is Jenova. That's about all I know." Sephiroth stated simply, no remorse for never knowing her. A pang of sympathy fell over the two men as they heard him, though it didn't last long. "They look happy though. It's always good to have something to fight for." The rest of the conversation was lost on him. Nonsensical information is what Hojo would call it.
"If it's not important it is not worth remembering. There is much more you must learn if you are to succeed." Hojo once instructed him. He put so much into making Sephiroth perfect, as if he were trying to rival something, or someone.
_________________
Scouting the town from afar, the young male heard the whispers and hushed voices behind him. Those who doubted him of course. He could see why. Most of these men had been in war zones before. Sephiroth, had not. However he had more training than any man on this field.
"I just don't get why they let a fucking kid into a battle field. I doubt he even knows what he's doing."
"Hey keep it down. He's a First Class he's gotta know something."
"I don't care if he's in SOLDIER he's still a kid. I've got more experience than that brat-"
Clenching his fist, he sucked in a breath before relaxing once again. "It would be easier to focus without your bickering." The General spoke with authority in his tone. He could assume they froze in a panic, unaware he heard every word they had been saying quite literally behind his back. "If you wish, we could spar right now. If you win you can lead the charge. If you loose you go home with a dishonorable discharge. Is that what you want?" The silver haired male turned around, lightly glaring. "I may not be as old as you, but I know exactly what I am doing out here. This is not a game, this is war."
________________
He knew something was off when the village was bare of all life. It didn't make any sense to him, his left hand gripping his blade handle with anxiety coursing through his veins. He wasn't briefed on this. This area was supposed to be full of Wutai fighters yet there's wasn't even a civilian on the street. This wasn't right. That's when he heard it. Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick.
"It's a trap." His blood ran cold. "Retreat imedi-" It was too late, the bombs went off and the entire village went up in flames. He was thrown back and hit his head hard against one of the stone buildings. As much blunt trauma he could take, this hard of a hit had his head spinning and he felt himself blacking out.
He awoke to a burning city. He didn't know how long he'd been out for but he knew he needed to find any men who were trapped in the city. He used the wall behind him to stand himself up. He'd only seen this much destruction in the simulator but actually experiencing it all was almost overwhelming. If he hadn't the determination to save his troops he would have broken down.
Running through the flame kissed city, he noticed the back of his head felt wet, but he payed little attention to it. He managed to get several of his troops out of the city and on the way to safety, his body aching from exertion but he couldn't give up now. He hadn't covered every building, every street. There could still be people in the city. That was what kept his legs steady as he ran back and forth, making sure he could save as many as he could. He was young. He was naive.
Most of his men needed help getting out, some left in pairs telling Sephiroth where others were in the town. Some he needed to personally escort out himself. Any of his men could tell how Sephiroth desperately tried to save as many lives as he could.
That's when he saw a familiar faced trooper. He'd been trapped under burning rubble. This only seemed to motivate him further, pushing his legs to the limit to get there before it was too late.
"Hold on I'm going to l-"
"It's no use, sir. It's the end of the road for me." The broken tone the man held was will shattering, but Sephiroth hadn't given up just yet. That was, until a photo was pushed into his hand. "Tell my girls I love 'em all. Get outta here while you can. You've got big things to do, I can tell."
Sephiroth's shaking hands looked down at the photo. It was the same one from early on in the mission. "I can't- you aren't- I..." He choked on his own words and for the first time his eyes showed weakness. He watched the man die in front of him. His heart pounding in his chest and all these foreign emotions filling his mind.
What was he supposed to do about this? He just watched someone who had been so full of life return to the lifestream. What would become of his family after this? This easily could have been him. Would his body be left behind just as his infentry man? What would happen if he died? Life on Gaia would just continue on without him. Sure people would grieve. However things would just continue on as if he never was a thing to begin with. He couldn't focus, too many thoughts overwhelming him. He couldn't think straight. His mind bouncing from thought to thought.
He stood on shaking legs, pocketing the photo. It felt wrong to leave the man under the rubble but he had little choice in the matter. That's when a familiar voice called his name. At first he didn't hear it, the voice sounded so distant with the screaming in his head. Then is called again, louder this time, breaking the trance he was in.
"Sephiroth!" It was Genesis, one of his dear friends. One of his only friends. He turned to the sound, seeing Angeal not to far behind. They were running to him in a panic.
"We heard the explosion and came as soon as we could. Are you oka-" Angeal's voice trailed off. Genesis had a hand covering his mouth, eyes wide in horror. That's when Sephiroth actually looked at the damaged he had taken.
His uniform was covered in blood, the only reason he could tell in his stark black uniform was the fact that it was clung to his skin and burned. The pain hit him all at once when he looked and his sight blurred, legs buckling but not failing just yet. All this time he never realized he was hurt. He realized why he'd been winded so easily. It was very likely his torso had been bruised, maybe a rib or two cracked. His right side had been torn to shreads from the shrapnel from the bomb and it likely wasn't just that area. How had no one noticed sooner? How had he not noticed sooner? He hadn't been paying attention to how much blood had been his and how much belonged to his injured squad. His entire body ached and he had a no clue how he was still standing. He was easily the most injured aside from the fallen men. He was the closest to the bomb.
His hand moved to his side, touching the blood before he looked at his palm. The blood was a deep red, almost black. Not a good sign. That's when he recalled his head. He'd been bleeding out this entire time. "Huh. That's....not good..." His voice trembled as the realization hit him. He didn't even know how bad it truly had been.
He looked back up to his friends, sharing the same horrified look as Genesis before his legs gave out. The last thing he saw was Angeal rushing over to catch him.
Sephiroth was out before he even hit the ground.
_________________
He woke suddenly, shooting up eyes wide and darting around the room he was in. A sudden flare of pain ripped through him with the motion. The room was white, medical equipment sounded behind him.
"Woah woah hey lay back down." Angeal had been sitting next to him he realized. His body relaxed a moment when he saw his friend at his side. Angeal's hands hover over his chest and shoulder, guiding him back down onto the hospital bed without touching him. He knew his friends' discomfort with contact.
Sephiroth slowly laid back with Angeal's aid. "Genesis has been out pacing in the hallway. He's worried about you. Want me to get him?" Angeal spoke with a low voice, as if not to pain him further having just woken. He gave a small nod in response. A small smile was thrown his way and Angeal stood up and went out to get the other. Genesis was the one to open the door, relief washing over him as he saw Sephiroth. A ghost of a smile showed on Sephiroth's face when he heard the soft 'oh thank Gaia' slip past Genesis's lips. As much of a rivalry they had they did still care for another.
Genesis was quick to sit by his side, Angeal entering and closing the door. Sephiroth noted Genesis's fidgeting hands, holding up his own for him. The redhead hesitated before clasping Sephiroth's hand with both of his own. "I'm so glad you're okay..." Genesis spoke barely above a whisper.
It wasn't long until someone knocked on the door, hesitantly opening it. "General Sephiroth? Professor Hojo wishes to speak with you." Three sets of eyes landed on the woman in a lab coat. One set was hard, glaring even, questioning why this was the time to tell the injured man to get up. Another was neutral, frustrated, but not at her. The last asked a silent question.
"Tell him I'll be there in a moment." Sephiroth spoke up, breaking the silence. The woman nods and quickly fled the room.
"You can't be serious. You need to rest!" Genesis spoke up before Angeal could.
"Genesis is right. You shouldn't be walking around, especially to Hojo."
"I've little choice." Sephiroth was already in the process of getting up, wincing as he did. Genesis went to help but froze mid way through the action. "At least let us help you get there." Angeal said as he saw how shakily Sephiroth was standing.
"Fine..."
_________________
It took some time, needing more help than he'd like to admit, before the three were in front of Hojo's office. His two friends agreed to wait for him so they could help him back. Taking a deep breath, Sephiroth knocked on the door then entered the room. "Professor Hojo, you wanted to see me?"
"I heard about your last mission." Hojo spoke, his voice harsh and Sephiroth immediately knew why he'd been called down here. "That was reckless. Unnecessary even. Their lives are worthless compaired to yours. Do you know how much funds to train would would have been wasted if you died? Worse, what would happen if the Wutai forces found your body?"
Sephiroth's gase fell down, unable to make eye contact any longer. "My apologies. It was the heat of the moment, I hadn't realized that-"
"That you were injured? That they weren't as important as you?" Hojo cut him off. "Please. You were trained better than this. You should know that a petty few infantry men are worthless compaired to you, a First Class SOLDIER. If it wasn't for those other First Class you would be dead even with all your enhancements."
"It won't happen again." Sephiroth muttered, his fists clenched not raising his gase still.
"Look at me while I'm taking to you." Hojo snapped, grabbing Sephiroth's chin and making the silver haired man look up. "Do not let this happen again. I will not be so kind next time. Now go. I have work to do."
hi I’m stuck waiting on ep:ardyn to come out before I can write more Basis of Reality, so have some ridiculous FFXV/FFVII-TFA crossover nonsense while we all wait
“A recruiting mission?” Genesis said doubtfully. He held the mission briefing in two fingers, his nose wrinkled like the words written on it reeked. “I thought this was going to be something interesting.”
Tseng ignored him, leaning back in his desk chair ever so slightly and watching Cloud with narrowed eyes. Cloud returned his stare levelly. He hadn’t looked at the mission briefing yet, and Tseng seemed far more interested in his reaction than Genesis’s. He dropped his eyes deliberately to Cloud’s copy of the briefing. “What do you think, Commander Strife?”
Giving in, Cloud skimmed the report. Unknown fighter operating on the Western Continent… mercenary… known kills include multiple Bomb clusters, several cokatolis, two zuus, a nest of Nibel dragons… no known affiliations… Cloud looked back at Tseng with a frown. “Who is he?”
“We were hoping you might know,” Tseng said. “He’s been roaming the Western Continent, slaying monsters in exchange for room, board, or gil. Remarkably similar to what you were doing before we recruited you.”
“Does this mystery man have it in for Sephiroth, too?” Genesis asked dryly.
“Not that we know of,” Tseng said, though he was still watching Cloud. “The civilians who’ve spoken with him noted a complete indifference toward ShinRa, actually.”
“And you want to recruit him?” Genesis said.
“You want us to recruit him?” Cloud added.
“A warrior powerful enough to take on the monsters he’s faced, alone, is of great interest to ShinRa. It would be best for all parties if he joined SOLDIER,” Tseng said, then nodded to Genesis. “Lazard suggested bringing the Hero of Wutai as incentive.” Then he tilted his head toward Cloud. “Even if you don’t know this man, your own, ah, recruitment experience might be of interest to him.”
“I don’t know him,” Cloud said. The photo attached to the briefing was blurry, pulled from a security photo according to the notes, and all he could make out of the mystery man was pale skin and dark hair. But he didn’t need to see the guy’s face to know he wasn’t anyone Cloud knew - the only people Cloud knew with that coloring were either already accounted for, or out of reach.
Tseng frowned. “You’re sure? His circumstances are quite similar to yours—”
“No,” Cloud interrupted. “They’re not.” They couldn’t be, but Tseng didn’t know that. Tseng had no idea Cloud was a time-traveler from ten years in the future, and Cloud wasn’t about to enlighten him. Only a handful of people knew the truth, the ones who’d been with Cloud at Nibelheim three months ago: Sephiroth, Genesis, Angeal, Kunsel, Zack, and Vincent. Everyone else in ShinRa had gotten an edited version of the incident in Nibelheim which contained no mentions of time travel, and as little of Jenova as Sephiroth had thought they could get away with. Even Aeris didn’t know everything, as much for her own protection as Cloud’s.
There was no way this guy was another time-traveler from the future, which meant he was nothing like Cloud. Though, that did leave a question open. “How long has he been operating?” Cloud asked. “Why are you only just now going after him?”
“Four months, give or take,” Tseng answered. “We have some speculative reports that he may have been operating up to six months ago, but we can’t definitively link them. He’s been using aliases, and not all of the people who reported activity saw him in person.”
“‘First confirmed sighting in North Corel’,” Genesis read from the briefing.
Tseng nodded. “The speculative reports are from a handful of small settlements in the mountains to the west of North Corel. If those were the same man, he moved more or less steadily east from Mount Nibel to Corel for about two months, then swung south along the mountains. He’s currently just west of the Corel Desert, in a settlement near the river.”
Cloud had to fight not to react to the mention of Mount Nibel. Based on Tseng’s timeline, the mystery man would have been in the area of the Nibel reactor during the time Cloud was trapped in Hojo’s lab, but that had to be a coincidence. Cloud had spent close to eight months there; dozens if not hundreds of people had probably passed through the greater Nibel area in that time. This guy was just one of them.
Tseng was still watching him a little too closely, so Cloud made himself toss the mission briefing on Tseng’s desk with as much nonchalance as he could muster. “The Corel Desert, huh? When do we leave?”
“Tomorrow morning at oh eight hundred,” Tseng said, and began gathering up the papers Cloud had scattered. “I’ll see both of you at the helipad at ten til.”
* * *
It was midafternoon by the time Tseng landed the helicopter just outside a small village some sixty or seventy miles west of the edge of the Corel Desert. Following the locals’ directions, Cloud, Genesis, and Tseng walked along a hilly trail to the river. It was a pleasant day, the sun warm, the breeze gentle, and birds chirping in the trees and bushes. This far west, no trace of Midgar’s smog marred the air, and Cloud tipped his face up, reveling in the sunlight.
“Is that him?” Genesis asked quietly, breaking his reverie.
“Apparently,” Tseng said.
Cloud followed their gaze. Perhaps a hundred yards along the path, the rolling hills sloped down to meet the river where it wound lazily down from the foothills of the mountains to the west. A lone figure sat at the river’s edge, a sleek fishing pole in his hands, the line extended out into the water. He turned as they approached, and Cloud studied him closely, just in case Tseng had been right about a connection.
But the young man wasn’t familiar at all. He looked young, early twenties or so, certainly not like a warrior capable of the kinds of exploits described in ShinRa’s file. His skin was paler than one would expect for someone who spent his time wandering the continent, and his hair was jet-black and fell in messy locks and spikes around his head. His face was round, almost soft, and his eyes, framed by thick dark lashes, were a stormy blue-gray and wide with curiosity.
His clothes were as unfamiliar as his face: a t-shirt under a short-sleeved leather jacket, baggy fisherman’s pants, and mismatched boots, all black. The fishing pole he held was likewise black, and looked fancy, though Cloud knew nothing about fishing. The young man rose to his feet, reeling in the line absently, as Tseng walked up to him with Cloud and Genesis following behind.
“Can I help you?” the man asked. His voice was light, almost soft despite the wary edge.
Tseng flashed a polite smile and his ShinRa ID. “My name is Tseng. I’m a member of ShinRa’s General Affairs Department.” Using the department’s formal name, not the nickname Turks, Cloud noted - apparently Tseng didn’t want to spook the guy. “These are Commanders Rhapsodos and Strife, SOLDIERs First Class,” Tseng continued, gesturing to Genesis and Cloud in turn.
The man glanced over at Genesis and Cloud, then back to Tseng. That was odd - Cloud tried to keep a low profile as a SOLDIER First Class, but Genesis reveled in attention and publicity. His face was nearly as well-known as Sephiroth’s; the man should have recognized him. But all he said to Tseng was, “Soldiers? Is something wrong? Do I need a hunter’s license or something?”
“No,” Tseng said smoothly. “We wanted to talk to you, Mr…?”
“Gar,” the man said.
Tseng’s expression didn’t change from the polite smile. “That’s the fifth alias you’ve used in the last four months.”
The man’s expression hardened, his chin lifting and those startling stormcloud eyes narrowing. Tseng continued, “ShinRa has been following your activity for some time, and we’re quite interested in you.”
“I see that,” the man said dryly.
“Your name?” Tseng prompted.
The man’s head tilted as he studied them for a long moment; Cloud had the impression he was weighing a decision. Finally he said, “Noctis Lucis Caelum.” His gaze flicked over them as he spoke, as though he was expecting a reaction of some kind.
Not that Cloud had one; the name was unusual, but not extraordinary. It didn’t appear to ring a bell for Genesis or Tseng, either, and after a moment, the man’s - Caelum’s - shoulders slumped ever so slightly. Some of the wariness in his posture bled away with the motion, and suddenly he just looked tired. “What do you want?” he asked.
“We’d like to offer you a job, Mister Caelum,” Tseng said.
Caelum shook his head. “Thanks, but I’m not interested.” With that, he swung his fishing pole up on his shoulder and brushed past Tseng, heading back up the path toward the village.
Genesis took half a step after him, but Tseng held up a hand to stop him. “Let him go,” he said quietly.
“Hmph.” Genesis folded his arms. “He didn’t even ask what kind of job.”
“You’re just mad he didn’t recognize you,” Cloud said.
“That, too,” Genesis agreed easily. To Tseng he added, “You’re not giving up that easily, are you?”
“Of course not,” Tseng answered. Caelum was out of sight along the path by now, lost to the gentle curve and swell of the hills, but Tseng lowered his voice anyway. “A pack of harpies was spotted two days ago heading toward this area. Normally Director Lazard would have sent a squad of Thirds to clear them out, but he agreed to hold off. We’d like to see Mister Caelum in action.”
“Is that safe?” Cloud asked. “Letting them get this close to town?”
“It’s perfectly safe,” Tseng said, and smiled. “Aren’t you both SOLDIERs?”
Final Fantasy Record Keeper Final Fantasy Brave Exvius Collaboration Event
The Final Fantasy Record Keeper (FFRK) mobile game is having a collaboration event with the Final Fantasy Brave Exvius (FFBE) mobile game.
Tumblr media
The festivities include lots of free relic draws. You’re guaranteed to get at least 2 6-star relics from these multi-pulls.
Here are the results of my free pulls on the FFRK x FFBE Collaboration Event Relic Draw Banner although I’m only listing the notable ones:
One of my draws gave me 4 golds, one of which turned out to be Tidus’s (from Final Fantasy X) Glint+ Soul Break (G+).
Tumblr media
The other relics I got belonged to chars from Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy IV, and Final Fantasy VI though I don’t remember now who these characters were.
Didn’t bother taking notes since wasn’t really pleased with the items I just got even if they were all new. Got a 6-star Ultra Soul Break (USB), a 5-star Glint Soul Break (G), and a 5-star Legend Materia Relic (LMR). Meh.
At least another one of these collab tickets actually gave me a 7-star item. Yay!
Tumblr media
Got this katana that belongs to Shadow from Final Fantasy VI. Onikiri (VI) is a 7-star, katana-type relic that contains Shadow’s Synchro Arcane Soul Break (SASB), Devastating Carnage.
Tumblr media
I also got Blood Sword (VII-CC), a 6-star, sword-type relic that contains Genesis Rhapsodos’s (from Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII) Glint+ Soul Break, Epic of Creation.
Tumblr media
This isn’t new but I took a screenshot anyway because the sword belongs to Genesis.
Currently, Genesis is my absolute, most favorite Final Fantasy VII (#ad) char. He’s the reason why I’m playing Final Fantasy Record Keeper.
Tumblr media
So of course I pulled for all of his relics the moment they were introduced in the game. This sword of his is no exception.
Anyway, this multi-draw also gave me a new Ultra Soul Break for a Final Fantasy V char.
Tumblr media
Much, much later, got an interesting pull. I took a screenshot of this particular draw because I got so many disco orbs.
I think this is the most I’ve ever gotten in this game so far - a grand total of 6 disco orbs with 1 rainbow orb.
Tumblr media
Too bad Dr. Mog didn’t show up to give me at least 1 7-star relic. I also ended up with 1 dupe - a Glint+ Soul Break for a Final Fantasy X char.
The rest of the relics that I got were new, but I was still pretty disappointed anyway since none of them seemed all that good.
I did get 1 Awakened Arcane Soul Break (AASB) - Locke Cole’s (from Final Fantasy VI) Adventure Awaits. It’s fine, but I don’t think I have anything else for Locke so I don’t really see myself using him or his Awakening any time soon.
Tumblr media
Besides, this deals fire damage. Genesis is a physical fire attacker too and I have all of his currently available relics.
And he’s my fave so naturally he’s always or almost always my main and primary DPS. I’d need more of Locke’s stuff if he wants to make it as my secondary DPS.
Anyway, this draw also gave me a Final Fantasy XIII char’s Glint+ Soul Break, a Final Fantasy III char’s Chain Soul Break (CSB), a Final Fantasy X char’s Ultra Soul Break (if I’m not mistaken, this belongs to Auron), a Final Fantasy V char’s Legend Materia Relic (LMR), and a Final Fantasy IX char’s Overstrike Soul Break (well, at least I think that’s what that icon stands for).
Conclusion
So, what about you? Got anything good from the FFRK x FFBE Collaboration Event Relic Draw Banner? What do you think about the Final Fantasy Record Keeper and Final Fantasy Brave Exvius collab event? Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions by leaving a comment below or by reblogging this post.
